- 0:00Joe Lumberg, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather,
- 0:02who is here to talk to us about what we're going to see this
- 0:05week in terms of weather. Is it going to be warmer?
- 0:08Is the rain going to stop? I have questions.
- 0:10Joe Lumberg, what's happening today, Sir?
- 0:13Well, it's not going to be warmer this week and the rain is
- 0:16not going to stop. It's going to return, although
- 0:18later in the week, I think today, tonight or tomorrow, rain
- 0:21free. So if you all are like me and
- 0:23you need to cut the grass that's getting really shaggy, there's
- 0:26your opportunity to do it. So the question that has been
- 0:29asked much in the last week or two for people I know is when
- 0:34are we going to get above that 50° mark?
- 0:36I mean, like we got to get into the 60s here a little bit, get a
- 0:39little bit of warmth. Come on, when's it happening?
- 0:41Is it? It's not this week, apparently.
- 0:43Not really, not this week. I mean I think today we're going
- 0:46to be around 60 St. tomorrow, forget about it Wednesday and
- 0:49Thursday and probably Friday. The good news is once this upper
- 0:52level low gets out of our hair this weekend, it will warm, will
- 0:57warm up. That's easy for me to say and I
- 0:59think we could actually get to 70 on Saturday and Sunday.
- 1:02Well, that's progress. Now is that going to be a new
- 1:05reality Like is it, is that going to sort of reset the
- 1:08temperatures from there on? Do I do I get 70s to look
- 1:11forward to again or at least mid 60s or something?
- 1:14I think once we get past this week, there's a subtle change in
- 1:18the pattern and it involves what's going on downstream as
- 1:21well as upstream. Downstream, The blocking that
- 1:23has forced this cool air into our area repeatedly, you know,
- 1:27for the past several weeks, looks like it breaks down.
- 1:30So we get more of a W northwest slow aloft, and that allows
- 1:34somewhat warmer air to come out of the middle part of the
- 1:36country and work its way to the east on a more consistent basis.
- 1:39So I think the second-half of May will be decidedly warmer
- 1:43than the first half has been. And who knows, we may end up the
- 1:46month with the temperatures on the high side of average.
- 1:48It it doesn't seem conceivable out considering how chilly it's
- 1:52been, but I think that that's the direction we're going.
- 1:54Now, I know that we've been focusing on temperature here a
- 1:56lot, but overall, it's been not nearly as rainy as last year,
- 2:00but it's been, you know, there's been stuff, there's been stuff
- 2:03floating in and out, including this last week.
- 2:04Little things. There's been no big storms, but
- 2:07there's been, you know, it seems like it wants to rain every two
- 2:10or three days. Yeah, which is not that bad to
- 2:12me. I mean, as long as it's a light
- 2:13rain and it goes away and then we can actually, you know, be
- 2:15outside and do stuff, that's fine.
- 2:17But how do we think the rest of the next week or two is going to
- 2:20be playing out in that respect? Is it going to continue to be
- 2:22like that or are we going to dry out a little or what do you
- 2:24think? I.
- 2:25I, I think we, we'll have some somewhat longer stretches in
- 2:29between rain events, but we're not going to go completely dry.
- 2:32But I just don't think that we're going to have it every two
- 2:35or three days. We're going to get a couple of
- 2:36days of rain. I think there'll be some
- 2:38stretches that might be formed, perhaps even 5 days where it
- 2:41doesn't rain or there's no more than a shower during that four
- 2:44or five days stretch. All right, Senior meteorologist
- 2:47at AccuWeather, Joe Lumberg, nice enough to join us here to
- 2:49give us a quick peek at the weather this week and beyond.
- 2:51As always, Joe, we appreciate it.
- 2:53I look forward to the better news as the spring marches on
- 2:56and we get a little bit deeper. But this is getting there.
- 2:58We're getting there, We're close.
- 2:59I'm feeling OK. Memorial Day weekend's only two
- 3:02weekends away. It's coming.
- 3:03I don't suppose you have any kind of a peek at that yet?
- 3:06Dude, I know that's way down. The line, but warmer.
- 3:08Warmer than this. That's all I'm going to.
- 3:10Say, all right, that's a fair, that's a fairpoint.
- 3:11Thank you very much, Joe, as always, and we will talk to you
- 3:13again very soon. Take care, yeah.
