- 0:00Speaker 1: Here on this program, thanks so much for joining us.
- 0:02Speaker 1: US of course includes the producer of the program, Cameron D. Parker,
- 0:06Speaker 1: that he on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, but
- 0:09Speaker 1: not much mention of Dallas these days, at least not
- 0:11Speaker 1: with respect to the team for whom his middle name
- 0:16Speaker 1: was bestowed. The Dallas Cowboys who are getting ready for
- 0:21Speaker 1: a trip to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And you think the Panthers fan should be excited about this?
- 0:26Speaker 1: They are favored. Yeah, they are favored.
- 0:29Speaker 2: And it looks like the rest of the world is
- 0:31Speaker 2: just figuring that out because I've gotten like three notifications
- 0:34Speaker 2: about it, about them being favored and all that. It
- 0:36Speaker 2: tells you how much the media is paying attention to
- 0:40Speaker 2: the Cowboys and the Panthers as of now. It's Thursday.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Oh by the way, Yeah, the Panthers are favored in football. Yes,
- 0:49Speaker 2: that's how far Jerry Jones in the Dallas Cowboys franchise
- 0:55Speaker 2: has fun. I wonder I hope someone from the media
- 0:58Speaker 2: last Jerry, you know, hey, what do you think about
- 1:01Speaker 2: being the underdog to the Carolina freaking Panthers. I bet you.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Jerry couldn't name two players in the Panthers.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Well it is Carolina.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Jake lom and.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Moushi Mohammad, Yeah, Ray Caruth Oh wait he killed somebody.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Oh gosh, speaking of football, so and speaking of Jerry Jones.
- 1:29Speaker 1: One less candidate for Jerry to uh to consider if
- 1:34Speaker 1: if speak if cam, if he decides not to stick
- 1:39Speaker 1: with Mike McCarthy, because you know what people think you Byke, Yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I mean Dak Chriscott says he ought to stick with
- 1:45Speaker 1: him like some of the Cowboys say, you ought to
- 1:47Speaker 1: stick with him?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Did just like Dak And because Dax endorsed it. Michael
- 1:52Speaker 2: Parsons adorsed it, Trake when the Dorset or do they
- 1:55Speaker 2: have money on the Cowboys?
- 1:57Speaker 1: I am alsodorse it. I don't know about that, Yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 1: but there were several who did. But if Jerry decides
- 2:05Speaker 1: to make a change, one less candidate is Bill Belichick.
- 2:09Speaker 1: He is officially the head football coach at the University
- 2:13Speaker 1: of North Carolina. And we do have his opening statement
- 2:16Speaker 1: to Craig that we can play on this show. Oh,
- 2:19Speaker 1: we're gonna We're gonna have to play that, Okay, all right.
- 2:22Speaker 1: His first words were not we we're on to uh,
- 2:27Speaker 1: we're on the Fordham No, you know who it would be.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We're on the TCU. Went with TCU next year. Oh man,
- 2:33Speaker 1: we're on the TCU.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Uh no. Uh. Do you think Bill Bochik could name
- 2:38Speaker 2: every single team in the a SEC right now? No?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Can you?
- 2:45Speaker 2: I think so? Okay, but wait till you find out?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Was like, why are we going to SMU in December? Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: they're in the ACC now they're in the Atlantic Coast Conference,
- 2:55Speaker 2: so they're methis. Yeah. You know this whole college football.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Realign where we played him at the Cowboys stadium. No, no, coach,
- 3:02Speaker 1: It'll be at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. There. So Bill
- 3:07Speaker 1: Belichick five year deal approved this morning by an emergency
- 3:13Speaker 1: Board of Trustees meeting. So he's had his news conference,
- 3:18Speaker 1: so we have to hear his opening statement.
- 3:19Speaker 2: There Bill Belichick brushing his shoulders with donors and boosters
- 3:26Speaker 2: and board members. Yeah, oh man, I mean he only
- 3:30Speaker 2: had one guy to worry about New England, and he
- 3:33Speaker 2: pissed him off and he won how many rings? Five, six, six, six?
- 3:39Speaker 2: Him and his slum we're trying to push him out.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah. By the way, that's an NFL record six super
- 3:44Speaker 1: Bowls for the Patriots. He won two more under one coach.
- 3:48Speaker 1: He won two more as an assistant with the Giants.
- 3:53Speaker 1: He enters college football with three hundred and thirty three
- 3:55Speaker 1: NFL wins, just fourteen behind the all time record of
- 3:58Speaker 1: three forty seven set by Don Chula, that coach. But
- 4:01Speaker 1: he walked away from that. He acted like and said
- 4:05Speaker 1: he didn't really get a lot of interest from NFL team. See,
- 4:09Speaker 1: so that should also tell you something about perhaps even
- 4:11Speaker 1: if Jerry Jones had decided to make a change.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you know, a lot of us are
- 4:16Speaker 2: surprised here or sitting in his chair that he would
- 4:18Speaker 2: not go back to the NFL. But I think a
- 4:20Speaker 2: lot of NFL owners are concerned about, you know, how
- 4:25Speaker 2: much control Belichick would want.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And if you're a GM, you don't want Belichick to
- 4:29Speaker 2: come in. You know, It's like, no, I don't want
- 4:32Speaker 2: him doing my job. You know, I want to do
- 4:34Speaker 2: my job and be able to find a different head
- 4:36Speaker 2: coach that would work with me. So that seems to
- 4:38Speaker 2: be the common issue. I mean, last year, Craig in Atlanta,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you know, it seemed like, oh, he's going to Atlanta,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and apparently he was like the third or fourth choice
- 4:47Speaker 2: for Arthur Blatt, you know, and it goes back to you, well,
- 4:50Speaker 2: you know, they worry about him having full control now
- 4:54Speaker 2: at u NC, you know, the head coach is also
- 4:58Speaker 2: the you know, he's also the GM, you know, so
- 5:00Speaker 2: the owner pretty much. And you know, he did bring
- 5:02Speaker 2: back Michael Lombardi as his GM, who was with them
- 5:04Speaker 2: in New England. And I think that Cleveland for a
- 5:06Speaker 2: little bit and has been doing a lot of sports
- 5:08Speaker 2: media stuff. So for for UNC, a lot of control
- 5:12Speaker 2: for Belichick, which is, you know, what he wants and
- 5:14Speaker 2: probably is not going to get from an NFL team
- 5:17Speaker 2: now after what happened at the end of the NFL
- 5:19Speaker 2: run there and what he did the Mac Jones. What
- 5:21Speaker 2: I am curious till Craig is did they figure out
- 5:23Speaker 2: what's going to happen with the son Steven, because it
- 5:25Speaker 2: did seem like par the agreement with him being able
- 5:27Speaker 2: to shoe in his son, Stephen Belichick, who is the
- 5:30Speaker 2: DC at Washington, the University of Washington, not the Commanders,
- 5:35Speaker 2: to take his spot after Belichick decides to step down.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's what everybody is kind of thinking
- 5:42Speaker 1: and expecting. So we'll see, we'll see how we'll see
- 5:48Speaker 1: how that rolls out all right? So that, by the way,
- 5:53Speaker 1: was not the only college football head coaching move. Rich
- 5:58Speaker 1: rod is back in Morgantown. M rich Rodriguez back at
- 6:02Speaker 1: West Virginia. He's at Jacksonville State. He was the head
- 6:08Speaker 1: coach at West Virginia from two thousand and one through
- 6:13Speaker 1: two thousand and seven. He had three straight ten win
- 6:17Speaker 1: campaigns and he beat Georgia and the Sugar Bowl in
- 6:19Speaker 1: those six round I think they blew them out if
- 6:22Speaker 1: memory correct. I may be wrong about that. I have
- 6:24Speaker 1: to go back and look at that. But they beat
- 6:25Speaker 1: Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. I may be thinking about
- 6:28Speaker 1: the the win that George had over Hawaii. Remember the
- 6:30Speaker 1: year Hawaii went to the Sugar Bowl. I think so
- 6:33Speaker 1: former quarterback Passaway Man I loved that team. Yeah, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: he had West Virginia right on the cusp of going
- 6:43Speaker 1: to the BCS National Championship game. And remember they lost
- 6:46Speaker 1: the backyard brawl to Pitt. I think it was like
- 6:48Speaker 1: thirteen to nine, and it kept him from going to
- 6:51Speaker 1: the National Championship. And it was pretty tense there after
- 6:56Speaker 1: that and he left. He went to Michigan and there
- 6:59Speaker 1: was a legal battle over his buyout. He is a
- 7:03Speaker 1: West Virginia native, and now he's back. He did a
- 7:08Speaker 1: heck of a job at Jacksonville State, he really did,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and they won, uh there back to back nine and
- 7:16Speaker 1: four seasons they won the conference. And remember this, this program,
- 7:20Speaker 1: this Jacksonville State pro is not that far removed from
- 7:22Speaker 1: being FCS. They haven't been you know, FBS that long.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Same thing like what Sam Houston is great. What Casey
- 7:30Speaker 1: Keeler did there getting them to the Conference USA, uh,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you know, right on the cusp of getting in the
- 7:37Speaker 1: championship game and they got in their first real, really
- 7:42Speaker 1: and truly full fledged available eligible bowl situation. They qualified
- 7:50Speaker 1: and they're going to the New Orleans Bowl. And then
- 7:53Speaker 1: of course coach Keeler left. He's gonna be a new
- 7:54Speaker 1: head football coach at Temple. But riche Rod did a
- 7:58Speaker 1: heck of a job at Jacksonville State and he now
- 8:06Speaker 1: takes over a school. It's in a different spot than
- 8:10Speaker 1: it was when he dominated. Remember when he was the
- 8:11Speaker 1: coach at West Virginia, they were in the Big East
- 8:14Speaker 1: and they were really doing well. They had Pat White
- 8:18Speaker 1: at quarterback. He had some really good teams. But since
- 8:22Speaker 1: they've joined the Big twelve. In twenty twelve, West Virginia
- 8:26Speaker 1: has had all of one ten win season, that's it,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and they haven't been in the AP poll in six years.
- 8:36Speaker 1: West Virginia has not been ranked in an AP pole
- 8:38Speaker 1: since twenty eighteen, so the program had fallen off quite
- 8:42Speaker 1: a bit.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And so now.
- 8:46Speaker 1: In West Virginia also has not had one of the
- 8:49Speaker 1: larger NIL budgets. Supposedly that's going to change now, so
- 8:55Speaker 1: rich Rod is back back as the head coach at
- 8:58Speaker 1: West Virginia. May that'll mean something there. And then one
- 9:02Speaker 1: other coaching note. Did you see who UNLV hired? Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 1: Dan Mullen as in College Football Final Dan Mullen, And
- 9:14Speaker 1: I did think that Florida got a little too antsy
- 9:18Speaker 1: and pulled the trigger on him a little too soon
- 9:20Speaker 1: after he'd left Mississippi State for Florida. And there was
- 9:23Speaker 1: all that talk about doing the same with Billy Napier
- 9:25Speaker 1: this year, and the Napier kind of flipped the script
- 9:27Speaker 1: a little bit, turned around, got some big wins, So
- 9:30Speaker 1: I think his seed has cooled now Napier's has, But
- 9:36Speaker 1: Dan Mullen, who Napier succeeded, is now the new head
- 9:41Speaker 1: coach at UNLV five year deal. They say he didn't
- 9:46Speaker 1: sign but expected to be signed here appreciating He last
- 9:48Speaker 1: coached three years ago at Florida, fired after four seasons.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He went thirty four and fifteen in four seasons. He
- 9:57Speaker 1: had an appearance in the SEC Championship Game and three
- 10:00Speaker 1: New Year Six Bowl games, and he got fired after that.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So prior to that, he coached nine seasons Mississippi State.
- 10:08Speaker 1: He's one O, three and sixty one over thirteen years.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Barry otom left UNLV. He did a heck of a
- 10:14Speaker 1: job there. As he makes his way back around to
- 10:18Speaker 1: power for status, he's the new head coach at Purdue.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Remember Otam had been at Missouri and then at UNLV.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Did a good job there. He went nineteen and eight
- 10:25Speaker 1: and two seasons. So and UNLV will play cow in
- 10:29Speaker 1: the I think they've changed the name of this bowl game.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Oh, wasn't it.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Everything I read said it was the LA Bowl presented
- 10:40Speaker 1: by Gronk, So I thought, you know, like kind of
- 10:43Speaker 1: like used to be the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl and
- 10:45Speaker 1: all that other kind of stuff. Apparently the name of
- 10:50Speaker 1: this bowl game now is the the Art of Sport
- 10:55Speaker 1: LA Bowl. Next Wednesday, go back and change it. That's
- 11:00Speaker 1: that's awful art of sport LBA. I'm gonna need to
- 11:03Speaker 1: look into that and see that. So we'll just see anyway,
- 11:06Speaker 1: So Dan Mullen back in the coaching carousel, and he'll
- 11:09Speaker 1: be the coach at UNLV all right, coming up on
- 11:11Speaker 1: the program in the three o'clock hour. In the four
- 11:15Speaker 1: o'clock hour, we're gonna hear from Rodney Terry, long worn
- 11:18Speaker 1: men's basketball coach. Texas does play New Mexico State tonight.
- 11:22Speaker 1: You can hear the contest right here on AM thirteen
- 11:25Speaker 1: under the Zone, beginning at six thirty, tip off at seven.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's also available on ninety eight point one FMK Vett
- 11:32Speaker 1: that six thirty year time, seven o'clock tip as Texas
- 11:36Speaker 1: plays New Mexico State. So next hour and in the
- 11:39Speaker 1: four o'clock hour, we'll hear from Rodney Terry from his
- 11:41Speaker 1: media zoom. Part of it in the three o'clock hour
- 11:44Speaker 1: and part of it at four o'clock hour.
- 11:45Speaker 2: We'll do that.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I'll look back at the Texas women's win last night,
- 11:50Speaker 1: and we're gonna hear from sark As well. Tonight is
- 11:53Speaker 1: the College Football Awards show in Orlando. Last night, sark
- 11:57Speaker 1: was in Houston at the Touchdown Club of Houston presentation
- 12:00Speaker 1: of the Lombardi Award, which went to Calvin Banks, which
- 12:03Speaker 1: was great. And Al sark is in Orlando, and tonight's
- 12:06Speaker 1: a college football award show, so we're going to hear
- 12:09Speaker 1: from Steve Sarkisian as well. We do have Inconceivable this hour.
- 12:14Speaker 1: My own personal touch with Inconceivable via Fast Food was
- 12:20Speaker 1: renewed last night, and I have an update on all
- 12:22Speaker 1: of that in War when we continue on Sports Radio
- 12:24Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the Zone, where you always listen to
- 12:26Speaker 1: us for free on the iHeartRadio app
