- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome, moms. Welcome to Inside the Mom's Club. I'm your host,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Monica Samuels, and I'm here with my lovely co host,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Julie Orchid.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Oh so nice of you to say, say it's Friday.
- 0:16Speaker 1: You look amazing as we say here all thank you.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I mean I feel we'refreshed. You look great. Thank you.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Although we're battling a little bad weather here, you know, a.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Little it's bad weather.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We're just not used to anything other than just sunshine
- 0:34Speaker 2: and being hot. And uh, if it rains here, we're yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 2: we we cry if it freezes. There is when I
- 0:42Speaker 2: say nothing on the shelves, Oh it's nothing.
- 0:45Speaker 1: In Texas, they only have to hear the word ice
- 0:47Speaker 1: and everybody runs and buys everything in the store. Exactly
- 0:51Speaker 1: something that the stores probably should get together and just
- 0:53Speaker 1: start promoting.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Listen that there's an ice storm.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I have enough on this body to last three days.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm fine.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think I'm going to starve to death,
- 1:01Speaker 1: although being a mom, I'm a little worried about it.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You know, like he's going to starve because he bought
- 1:06Speaker 1: no food, no nothing.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So yeah, they have to learn sadly, Yes.
- 1:10Speaker 1: You're right, they do anyway, just like your children. So
- 1:13Speaker 1: you have two daughters, I do you do? So I
- 1:16Speaker 1: have two sons and you have two daughters.
- 1:17Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So we live in different worlds when I say different worlds.
- 1:22Speaker 1: And your daughters are extraordinarily talented. They they performed at
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Zach Scott Theater. They were always in the musicals
- 1:33Speaker 1: and they were always doing that.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Where did they get this talent?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Not from me? Well I can tell you that, but.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well, I'm pretty sure they didn't get it from the
- 1:44Speaker 1: other side. Well you're yeah, I'm sure that didn't happen.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So what was the mailman like? Did he have a
- 1:49Speaker 1: great voice or what was it?
- 1:51Speaker 3: You can still it all.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Here listen, you know, thank you for saying that about
- 1:55Speaker 2: my daughters. If I could, if I could sing, I
- 1:59Speaker 2: would give anything to be able to carry a tune.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So I'm not very sure.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Just let's hear it. Let's hear a little.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's nice. That's not gonna happen because we
- 2:11Speaker 2: want people to watch, we want people to listen.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Okay, Well, you know, like.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I can only compare it to so like Oprah and
- 2:19Speaker 2: Gail did this road trip. I don't know if you
- 2:21Speaker 2: guys know it, and they almost broke up their friendship
- 2:23Speaker 2: because apparently Gail cannot sing and Oprah was not having it.
- 2:28Speaker 2: She's like, you cannot do that anymore, and I feel
- 2:30Speaker 2: like that is not I mean, so I'm going to
- 2:33Speaker 2: go on a road trip with my dog and she
- 2:35Speaker 2: doesn't seem to mind.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Okay, Well, so I mean, can you act?
- 2:40Speaker 2: I can't act.
- 2:42Speaker 3: No, I can't sing. I mean, well, I did let
- 2:44Speaker 3: her inquire in high school. No, middle school. Sorry, I
- 2:47Speaker 3: quit by the time it was high school. Okay.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And you know what, when he handed me that letter,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I was just as shocked as he was, I think.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't even know he had a nod
- 2:56Speaker 1: at me to tell me, Yes, I called your name.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I mean, I have a thing of people who tell
- 3:00Speaker 2: me that, oh, we can teach you to sing, Julie,
- 3:03Speaker 2: or we can teach you to ski. I find none
- 3:06Speaker 2: of that to be true.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah that's true. I find that.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I get that. Yeah that there are things I
- 3:12Speaker 1: can do and things I can't do.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I'm just a tough student.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I guess, well, I'm they got their talent from somewhere,
- 3:17Speaker 1: so let's Yeah, it's been so much sing and act
- 3:21Speaker 1: and all of that, which I think maybe deep down
- 3:23Speaker 1: maybe you really can. You just never tried. You just
- 3:25Speaker 1: never had the nerve because they got their talent somewhere.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Oh acting, I would go after.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So would you ever want to, like, if you could,
- 3:33Speaker 1: would it be cool to perform with them?
- 3:35Speaker 3: You know what?
- 3:36Speaker 2: It would be amazing to do something with them all
- 3:40Speaker 2: the way. I don't know if they feel the same,
- 3:41Speaker 2: but they're not here today, so I feel like I
- 3:45Speaker 2: would be able. We would have so much fun. I
- 3:48Speaker 2: think that we would love it. I think we could
- 3:51Speaker 2: do it. There's gonna be some moments where we definitely
- 3:54Speaker 2: knock heads, but I mean, I'm truly just being honest,
- 3:59Speaker 2: and I would probably have to pull the mom card
- 4:01Speaker 2: a couple of times. I would probably say something dumb
- 4:04Speaker 2: like because I said so, I don't know, like because
- 4:07Speaker 2: you have nothing else like to grasp onto that you
- 4:11Speaker 2: got to play the card I'm the mom.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I was curious about that because you know, I've I've
- 4:16Speaker 1: spent all the time with you and shared a room
- 4:18Speaker 1: with you, you know when la and everything, and I
- 4:21Speaker 1: have heard some discussion you know, around other like school
- 4:24Speaker 1: and things like that.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, there might be some sarcasm in there
- 4:28Speaker 2: when I'm talking.
- 4:29Speaker 1: To them, but it could probably be a good business.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I mean, I'm gonna say that you're a lot nicer
- 4:33Speaker 2: to your boys, probably, But we're girls, and people who
- 4:37Speaker 2: have daughters know what I'm saying.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't have daughters, so I had sisters though,
- 4:42Speaker 1: So I get that you mostly thought about who was
- 4:44Speaker 1: the prettiest, which is kind of hilarious because for.
- 4:46Speaker 3: All I know, the whole world thought none of you.
- 4:49Speaker 3: But we had to find about that all the time.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 1: But yeah, the boys, they just hang up on you
- 4:54Speaker 1: or just tell you.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I mean, I find it a really cool gift that
- 4:58Speaker 2: when mom's daughters can really jive and have this a
- 5:04Speaker 2: positive relationship and a working relationship, that is a bonus.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Let's find out more about that. Maybe after this interview
- 5:12Speaker 1: you will be inspired to take some singing lessons and
- 5:15Speaker 1: get your girls on the road. It could be a trio.
- 5:18Speaker 1: This is true, The Orchids, the Flowers Cool.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's an interesting band name.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll work on that.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Well.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Today, we are thrilled to have with us a dynamic
- 5:31Speaker 1: and captivating mother daughter duo known as One the Duo,
- 5:36Speaker 1: their acronym one stands for observant noeedic for vescent, which
- 5:41Speaker 1: encapsulates their philosophy and approach to life and songwriting. We
- 5:45Speaker 1: have Takeitha, the seasoned, soulful mom and Prana Supreme, the insightful,
- 5:51Speaker 1: poetic daughter of hip hop legend Riza. Together they are
- 5:55Speaker 1: creating country music with a twist. I absolutely love them.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Please welcome to keith the in Prana won the duo.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Welcome lady.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yay what.
- 6:09Speaker 3: You like that?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Well, we love you. We didn't listening to your music.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I've been listening to Guilty, and let me tell you something.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I've just been singing it, and I'm gonna tell you what.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I'm a lawyer.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I would acquit you in a minute. You're not guilty.
- 6:22Speaker 3: He had a comment that guy had it coming something else.
- 6:28Speaker 6: Ye love it.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I just like I'm happy to singing. I'm not kidding.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I've been singing that all ever since I first heard it.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I'm not guilty. Maybe I can't sing. I just go out,
- 6:39Speaker 3: well who you had to tell them?
- 6:41Speaker 7: There?
- 6:43Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Maybe they'll let me join their band if that's or
- 6:46Speaker 1: their their their trio or I guess it wouldn't be
- 6:49Speaker 1: a trio.
- 6:49Speaker 3: You have to kick one of your daughters out if
- 6:51Speaker 3: I joined, but.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I think one would gladly leave.
- 6:54Speaker 3: So how did this start? How does a mother and daughter?
- 6:57Speaker 1: Because you can see I'm having to proud Julia along
- 6:59Speaker 1: here to even consider. So how did this start? Tell
- 7:02Speaker 1: us the story? Who wants to who wants to share? Like,
- 7:06Speaker 1: who's the best telling your story?
- 7:08Speaker 3: Is it?
- 7:09Speaker 6: Probably me?
- 7:10Speaker 1: Okay, well let's hear how did this come to be?
- 7:13Speaker 3: One the duo?
- 7:14Speaker 8: When the duo came to be, which is why I
- 7:16Speaker 8: feel like I'm the best to tell the story, was
- 7:17Speaker 8: because I asked Mom to do this project with me.
- 7:23Speaker 8: I was fourteen at the time, fourteen or fifteen, and
- 7:26Speaker 8: my mom would host these huge jam session parties at
- 7:30Speaker 8: her house in Nashville. They call them like pick and plays,
- 7:34Speaker 8: but for my mom, these jam sessions would be people
- 7:37Speaker 8: would be freestyling, so everything would be off the cuff,
- 7:40Speaker 8: you know, you never know what sounds would be made
- 7:43Speaker 8: that night, and there'd be rappers and musicians, painters, poets,
- 7:48Speaker 8: the whole nine and so growing up, Mom would make
- 7:52Speaker 8: sure it was an environment that was still somewhat kid
- 7:55Speaker 8: friendly so that I could actually experience this. And she
- 8:00Speaker 8: had one which ended up being like one of her
- 8:02Speaker 8: last big ones in California.
- 8:04Speaker 6: We were living in Long Beach at the.
- 8:05Speaker 8: Time, and per usual, Mom and I would always end
- 8:10Speaker 8: up freestyling something together. And it was the morning after
- 8:15Speaker 8: that night where I just was overcome with the feeling
- 8:18Speaker 8: of like, we should do this all the time, and
- 8:21Speaker 8: we should do this professionally, we should sing and write
- 8:23Speaker 8: our own songs. And so I come to Mom with
- 8:27Speaker 8: this idea. And mind you, we're not mourning.
- 8:29Speaker 6: People till this day at all.
- 8:33Speaker 8: We honestly have like a strict rule that we do
- 8:36Speaker 8: not talk to each other before noon if we can
- 8:38Speaker 8: help it.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and it should try that. I mean, I
- 8:43Speaker 3: was like, I'm into that.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I was like, damn, okay.
- 8:49Speaker 8: You know, and so, but I threw caution to the wind.
- 8:52Speaker 8: I was like, I have to.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Talk to her right now. I don't care what time
- 8:55Speaker 6: it is.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Keep thirty in the morning, you guys too, Like in
- 9:00Speaker 5: I'm sorry to interject, but it literally was pretty pretty
- 9:03Speaker 5: early from a jam session night.
- 9:05Speaker 8: I mean you know, yeah, I mean, y'all were they
- 9:08Speaker 8: were basically up till the sun came up. And this
- 9:10Speaker 8: is probably like maybe ten am sometime before noon.
- 9:15Speaker 6: Yeah, you know. I mean, when you went to bed
- 9:17Speaker 6: at like five am.
- 9:19Speaker 8: Ten am feels pretty early, and so anywhoy I come
- 9:25Speaker 8: to Mom with this idea, onto which she immediately says no.
- 9:30Speaker 8: She says no, why, And I was devastated by that reaction.
- 9:36Speaker 8: I threw a full blown temper tantrum. Not a proud
- 9:39Speaker 8: moment as a poor two year old have a tantrum,
- 9:43Speaker 8: but I just felt so strongly that like I was
- 9:47Speaker 8: giving her a million dollar idea that she didn't even
- 9:50Speaker 8: take a moment to think about. And after some time,
- 9:55Speaker 8: I really once I calmed down, and Mom asked me
- 9:59Speaker 8: some more questions of like, okay, well, why do you
- 10:01Speaker 8: want to do this? And I explained to her that
- 10:05Speaker 8: even at fourteen, my parents had given me such a
- 10:09Speaker 8: honest account of what being in the entertainment industry is like,
- 10:14Speaker 8: and I feel like I didn't really have much naivete
- 10:18Speaker 8: about what it took to be in the industry or
- 10:21Speaker 8: kind of the vultures that can be in this industry,
- 10:24Speaker 8: and I knew.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Mom would protect me from that.
- 10:27Speaker 8: And also, I've been calling my mom my best friend
- 10:29Speaker 8: since I was ten years old, and I felt like,
- 10:32Speaker 8: especially at fourteen, you want to hang out with your
- 10:34Speaker 8: best friend all day.
- 10:35Speaker 6: So it was like, what what if we made music.
- 10:37Speaker 8: All day and hung out all day? And Mom was like,
- 10:41Speaker 8: these are pretty good points.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we were playing at her heart strings.
- 10:47Speaker 5: That's what I really did take that too, because you
- 10:51Speaker 5: know it like to just go back to her saying
- 10:53Speaker 5: she had a temper chance room. You guys have to understand,
- 10:55Speaker 5: this is not a young person then or the young
- 10:59Speaker 5: adult she is now who has tantrum. She's very even
- 11:03Speaker 5: he can articulate her feelings very well. Like so, so
- 11:07Speaker 5: her storming out of the living room, slamming both doors
- 11:11Speaker 5: that lead to her her bedroom, like I had to
- 11:14Speaker 5: kind of like follow after her, like wait, hold on,
- 11:16Speaker 5: are you slamming doors?
- 11:17Speaker 2: What is going on?
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, pounding on the bed. It was a scene.
- 11:22Speaker 5: It was a scene, okay.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Said It was in the drama zone for.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Sure, And so I really kind of had to gather
- 11:30Speaker 5: her together and really sit with her, like, hey, hold on,
- 11:33Speaker 5: my bad, I did not mean to say no, so
- 11:35Speaker 5: quickly tell me more about this. And it was like
- 11:39Speaker 5: even more than just the heart strings. It was it
- 11:41Speaker 5: was like she had been thinking about it somehow, you
- 11:44Speaker 5: know what I mean. It was stuck in her subconscious
- 11:46Speaker 5: in some way. And again, she had been doing these
- 11:48Speaker 5: jam sessions with me since she was two years old.
- 11:50Speaker 5: You know, I have footage of her with my band
- 11:53Speaker 5: in New York, like singing the craziest high Seed no where.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Everybody's like, oh, that's that note, you know, things like that,
- 12:02Speaker 5: And so it definitely kind of opened me up to
- 12:06Speaker 5: understand like, well, you know, the least I can do
- 12:08Speaker 5: one is hear her out, and secondly, really set the
- 12:12Speaker 5: stage for her to understand that what I do for
- 12:14Speaker 5: a living, what her father does for a living is
- 12:16Speaker 5: very different from the relationship she has with us as
- 12:19Speaker 5: parent to child. At that point, even even then, it
- 12:23Speaker 5: was she travels with us and has to go, you know,
- 12:26Speaker 5: be backstage or has somebody to take her to the
- 12:29Speaker 5: museums when we're city to city or country to country.
- 12:32Speaker 5: But do you know about the four am lobby call
- 12:34Speaker 5: and then he's in the in the sprinter, do you know,
- 12:37Speaker 5: do you really want.
- 12:38Speaker 3: To do that?
- 12:40Speaker 5: That just on a technical side, and then on an
- 12:43Speaker 5: emotional personal side, I didn't want to risk losing the
- 12:47Speaker 5: relationship that Prana and I had built over over the
- 12:50Speaker 5: time from her childhood up into her teens and we
- 12:53Speaker 5: had we hadn't had any of that weird kind of
- 12:56Speaker 5: teen slash mom, you know, headbutting, and so we're just
- 13:00Speaker 5: very communicative family anyhow, And I was very concerned that
- 13:04Speaker 5: she was going to see who I am when I'm working.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Who I am when I'm working is not the happy,
- 13:09Speaker 5: go lucky, come on girl, Oh we're having a bad day,
- 13:12Speaker 5: let's talk about it. It's like, no, you're having a
- 13:14Speaker 5: bad day and we're at work. Get over it, you know.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, two different sides completely.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I'm impressed with your skills as a mother, because on
- 13:21Speaker 1: three hours of sleep with a kid asking that question
- 13:24Speaker 1: and throwing a massive fit, I have a feeling that
- 13:27Speaker 1: I know what I would have done, It would not
- 13:30Speaker 1: have ended up with us being a duo and singing together.
- 13:33Speaker 1: So I'm impressed that you then took the time you
- 13:36Speaker 1: really you cherished that friendship that you really undertand all
- 13:39Speaker 1: that you had with her.
- 13:40Speaker 3: That's great. Well, how long did it take.
- 13:42Speaker 1: From that moment to it becoming a reality where now
- 13:47Speaker 1: you're performing and singing together and writing music together.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Yeah, well we you know, from the time that she
- 13:55Speaker 5: kind of introduced the idea, it was twenty fifteen, and
- 14:01Speaker 5: I want to say twenty fourteen. Twenty fifteen, we made
- 14:04Speaker 5: a trip to Nashville to just kind of soak.
- 14:08Speaker 6: The scene up and see what was going on.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I put her through a series of kind of developmental
- 14:12Speaker 5: challenges essentially, like you know, a prerequisite of her of
- 14:16Speaker 5: us even doing the project. She had to keep her
- 14:18Speaker 5: GPA at three point eight or higher. She had to
- 14:20Speaker 5: stay committed to the extracurriculars that she already had. She
- 14:24Speaker 5: was in all ap classes at school at the time.
- 14:26Speaker 5: She was a sophomore in high school. So we had
- 14:30Speaker 5: a year of me kind of just running a little
- 14:32Speaker 5: pattern with her to see what she was capable of
- 14:34Speaker 5: and what kind of pressure she could take at that point.
- 14:38Speaker 5: And so June, I want to say, of twenty fifteen,
- 14:42Speaker 5: so it would have been twenty fourteen. For on a
- 14:44Speaker 5: June twenty fifteen, we made a trip to Nashville just
- 14:46Speaker 5: for a week for like hanging out. I think I
- 14:48Speaker 5: had a show in Chicago, and from Chicago we came
- 14:51Speaker 5: down to Nashville and spent a week here. Did a
- 14:53Speaker 5: writing session with Alicia Hoffman and Rebecca Lynn Howard, who
- 14:58Speaker 5: are famously known in the country your music space, fabulous songwriters.
- 15:03Speaker 5: We had a writing session with them and a producer
- 15:06Speaker 5: named bar Nunn, who was my only connect here in
- 15:08Speaker 5: Nashville at the time, and kind of made our mind
- 15:11Speaker 5: up then that Okay, we'll give it a little more time.
- 15:13Speaker 5: In twenty sixteen, we came and made the move here
- 15:17Speaker 5: officially and started working kind of pseudo working on the
- 15:20Speaker 5: project then in twenty sixteen. So it's been like ten years,
- 15:25Speaker 5: you know, from conception to you know, execution.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean every day seems like it would
- 15:32Speaker 2: be like it's a grind every day. I mean, even
- 15:36Speaker 2: though you've been doing it and working on it since
- 15:38Speaker 2: twenty sixteen, you always have to wake up and this
- 15:42Speaker 2: type of business. You know, my daughter's trying to be
- 15:44Speaker 2: an actress in LA. It's a grind. So a couple things.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I would love to hear who your inspiration is like
- 15:50Speaker 2: and then also tell us about the name. It is
- 15:54Speaker 2: so cool and what a way to describe yourself. So
- 15:58Speaker 2: tell everybody what it stands for.
- 16:00Speaker 1: When we confess, we had to look up, but one
- 16:02Speaker 1: of the worst meant and we consider ourselves.
- 16:04Speaker 3: I do.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Anyway, Monica did better on the SAT than I did. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 2: so let's hear it. Tell us the inspiration, and tell
- 16:14Speaker 2: us about the name.
- 16:15Speaker 8: Okay, I'll start with the name because the inspirations will
- 16:18Speaker 8: be faster. But basically, uh, people always would. People will
- 16:24Speaker 8: call Mom and I pro Keitha, which is our names
- 16:26Speaker 8: put together when we were specifically in sync, and especially
- 16:31Speaker 8: as I've gotten older, people always mistake my voice for
- 16:35Speaker 8: my mom's voice, and so we're like, oh, it's like
- 16:37Speaker 8: we're one voice. And so it started from being like
- 16:40Speaker 8: we're like one and then Mom, of course wanted to
- 16:44Speaker 8: interject some more intention into it. I think our family
- 16:47Speaker 8: is just very everything has to be intentional, like nothing
- 16:50Speaker 8: is by accident if we can help it.
- 16:52Speaker 2: That's very female. Yeah, very intentional.
- 16:56Speaker 3: So go ahead exactly.
- 16:58Speaker 8: And so Mom was like, well, let's make it an
- 17:02Speaker 8: acronym and have it like represent our approach to life
- 17:07Speaker 8: and our approach to songwriting. And so it really came
- 17:10Speaker 8: about so naturally just observant, noedic, effervescent, and we always
- 17:17Speaker 8: you know, are saying to like do the knowledge to
- 17:19Speaker 8: a situation. So like make sure before you're speaking, you're observing,
- 17:22Speaker 8: before you're acting, you're observing. You need to have that
- 17:25Speaker 8: beat before you do something. Then noetic is uh in
- 17:29Speaker 8: relation to mental activity. You gotta use your brain, you
- 17:32Speaker 8: gotta be thinking. And then effervescence is that bubbly factor
- 17:37Speaker 8: of just like we love life and we love doing
- 17:40Speaker 8: this together and wanting to approach things with like radical optimism.
- 17:45Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, it's the.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Glow that's great.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And yeah, no eedic was the one we had to
- 17:49Speaker 1: look up and of course it had to do with
- 17:50Speaker 1: our brain.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what we didn't know. I was like, no,
- 17:55Speaker 3: that's very cool that you that you did that. So
- 17:56Speaker 3: and who's your inspiration? Like where does this? Where does
- 17:59Speaker 3: your music derived from? Yeah?
- 18:01Speaker 2: What who do you love the most that you're like, Oh.
- 18:04Speaker 8: Man, I feel like it's tough. Mom and I both
- 18:08Speaker 8: have different inspirations, which I think greatly influences how we
- 18:12Speaker 8: approach one the duo, I would say for me, it's.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Like Stevie Nick and girl Lina del Rey and.
- 18:24Speaker 8: Who's Who's Who's my other people that I'm always I
- 18:27Speaker 8: love Casey Musgraves, Oh yeah, yeah, big ginormous way.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Stevie Wonder also my my also my favorite band since
- 18:36Speaker 6: I was five.
- 18:37Speaker 8: Part of me I'm getting over Cold has been earth
- 18:40Speaker 8: Wind and Fire, and although our music does not sound
- 18:44Speaker 8: because of your mom like yeah, no action, Oh okay,
- 18:49Speaker 8: my grandma No, my mom was a hip hop head
- 18:52Speaker 8: through and through hip hop and rock music ould our household.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Now.
- 18:57Speaker 8: When I was with my grandma, though, the first time
- 18:59Speaker 8: I heard earth Wind, I was like, that is the
- 19:01Speaker 8: best things I've ever happened to music. I don't care
- 19:04Speaker 8: what anyone says. And in terms of like my approach
- 19:07Speaker 8: to like stage presence and just really like live instrumentation,
- 19:12Speaker 8: earth Wind and Fire are big in spring.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Oh good choices love? Yeah, Mom, what about takeith though,
- 19:19Speaker 2: let's hear let's.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Use your for me?
- 19:22Speaker 5: Well, I was gonna say Fleetwood Max, So we're we're
- 19:24Speaker 5: on the same page there with a Stevie and so
- 19:28Speaker 5: on and Stevie as well. Because of my hip hop
- 19:33Speaker 5: background and upbringing, I have to throw to Slick Ricks
- 19:37Speaker 5: as one of my all time favorites and has inspired
- 19:41Speaker 5: me as a songwriter in a great way. And what's interesting,
- 19:43Speaker 5: I proma I'm gonna have her to speak to this
- 19:45Speaker 5: in a little bit. But you know, the connection between
- 19:47Speaker 5: hip hop and country music is so much closer than
- 19:50Speaker 5: people actually believe. And I'm not talking about sonically, I'm
- 19:52Speaker 5: talking about the culture of these songs, songwriting and storytelling genres.
- 19:58Speaker 5: You know, they're more like cousins than than than separate.
- 20:02Speaker 5: So slick rick for me. Let's see who else? Hmm,
- 20:08Speaker 5: Oh the Eagles of course, Eagles.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Journey, well your dad rock bands.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Yeah, when you say country music with a twist, I
- 20:23Speaker 1: know country music has had such an evolution. I actually
- 20:27Speaker 1: a thousand years ago, I practiced immigration law and I
- 20:29Speaker 1: had to get the visa for Neil McCoy's lead guitarist,
- 20:33Speaker 1: who actually was from Niagara Falls, like literally across the
- 20:36Speaker 1: road from the He barely missed just stepping right on in.
- 20:40Speaker 1: But but I put in the application country and Western
- 20:43Speaker 1: and they laughed their heads off there Like Monica Western
- 20:46Speaker 1: went out with Roy Rogers, had this huge evolution, So
- 20:51Speaker 1: you're helping it evolve more. So what's the twist you
- 20:54Speaker 1: all are trying to add in your Where does that
- 20:57Speaker 1: come from? What is what does that mean?
- 20:59Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 20:59Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 21:00Speaker 8: Yeah, I think the twist for us comes from adding
- 21:05Speaker 8: those elements of hip hop and adding those elements of jazz.
- 21:08Speaker 8: I think country and pop already have a very solid relationship,
- 21:12Speaker 8: so that's not very surprising. Yeah, but it's the hip
- 21:15Speaker 8: hop and jazz elements for us that we wanted to
- 21:18Speaker 8: incorporate really honestly into country music. I think country is
- 21:24Speaker 8: a genre that's also very traditional, like they take. It's
- 21:29Speaker 8: very interesting because when you look at pop and you
- 21:30Speaker 8: look at hip hop and even rock music, they have
- 21:33Speaker 8: had like an even deeper evolution than where their genre started.
- 21:38Speaker 8: And country, on the other hand, feels like because they
- 21:41Speaker 8: hold on to like, no, this is real country, it
- 21:43Speaker 8: takes a little bit longer for them to like ben
- 21:46Speaker 8: that rule. And so when we started making country music,
- 21:51Speaker 8: we were approaching it with like, Okay, let's work with
- 21:54Speaker 8: veterans in the field who really know the formula quote
- 21:58Speaker 8: unquote of country music. So then we can add the
- 22:01Speaker 8: fact that mom comes from hip hop music. And then
- 22:04Speaker 8: we grew up listening to so much jazz and rock
- 22:07Speaker 8: music that we can add that element of being like,
- 22:10Speaker 8: all right, but put this electric guitar like this here,
- 22:12Speaker 8: and like on one of our songs, we have like
- 22:15Speaker 8: a setar on it. You know, we're just doing whatever
- 22:17Speaker 8: crazy stuff we can while still keeping that foundation of
- 22:22Speaker 8: country music.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And I think it's cool that you all are doing
- 22:24Speaker 1: that and that you actually performed on the stage at
- 22:27Speaker 1: the Grand ole Opry, which is if there's ever traditional
- 22:30Speaker 1: sort of country.
- 22:32Speaker 2: They got to stand p Yeah, what did that feel like?
- 22:37Speaker 5: That was? You know, every time we do an interview
- 22:40Speaker 5: and that's brought up, it's almost I get like a
- 22:43Speaker 5: weird chill in my body of just it's like I'm
- 22:46Speaker 5: right back at that moment of standing in the circle.
- 22:49Speaker 5: And not only that, we were there as the first
- 22:54Speaker 5: black mother daughter duo to ever stand foot on that
- 22:56Speaker 5: stage perform, and so we had our They did a
- 22:59Speaker 5: big uh.
- 23:01Speaker 4: What would you call it?
- 23:02Speaker 5: Krana like basically like a taping of our first time
- 23:04Speaker 5: coming and they aired on their channel and we did
- 23:07Speaker 5: the radio pressing all around it and our our intro
- 23:12Speaker 5: was coming right before Tricia Yearwood and Whyona Judd. And
- 23:16Speaker 5: at the time we had just featured on a Judge
- 23:20Speaker 5: tribute album performing what's the song Krana?
- 23:25Speaker 6: We did?
- 23:27Speaker 3: We did?
- 23:27Speaker 5: We did two songs that day. I had a dream,
- 23:31Speaker 5: I had a dream. I had a dream, had a
- 23:33Speaker 5: dream with Wendy Moten and won the duos as a
- 23:36Speaker 5: duet collaboration. And to be there to meet Winona Judd,
- 23:43Speaker 5: to stand on that stage was something I one could
- 23:46Speaker 5: not have imagined to have happened, ever, and shout out
- 23:50Speaker 5: to Jackie Marushkar publicist for making that happen, because you know,
- 23:53Speaker 5: these are things that takes years for people to get
- 23:56Speaker 5: into position and to get the notorieting. Our team had
- 23:59Speaker 5: done a really great job of like pushing us in
- 24:01Speaker 5: the market for that entire year, and so to have
- 24:05Speaker 5: our debut is something that I will never forget. And
- 24:07Speaker 5: like even just getting dressed for it, and you know,
- 24:10Speaker 5: making our way backstage and seeing all the rooms and
- 24:13Speaker 5: they put us in. They have the rooms backstage that
- 24:16Speaker 5: are themed basically, and so they put us in like
- 24:19Speaker 5: a women of country, you know. And it's honestly one
- 24:23Speaker 5: of my favorite life experiences with my daughter.
- 24:26Speaker 2: It really is uplifting. I mean, obviously we've established I'm
- 24:29Speaker 2: not a singer, but I did do that tour last year,
- 24:31Speaker 2: and I know the rooms that you're talking about, and
- 24:34Speaker 2: I stood in the circle and I was hoping that
- 24:36Speaker 2: the talent would wash over me. Couldn't happen. But the
- 24:40Speaker 2: fact that you guys got to sing there is incredible.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I mean, that's they let people who go on to
- 24:46Speaker 1: tour busts stand in the circle that's not right, well,
- 24:49Speaker 1: place of great honor, I.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Mean I'm saying that. So for as a mom of
- 24:54Speaker 2: two daughters, I would like to know how you guys
- 24:58Speaker 2: manage each other your business, Like you're both strong personalities.
- 25:04Speaker 2: You have to be in this business, right and then
- 25:07Speaker 2: like who says what? And how do you guide each
- 25:10Speaker 2: other when it comes to the business side, and then
- 25:13Speaker 2: how do you decompress for the personal side.
- 25:16Speaker 8: The benefit to our strong personalities is that they are
- 25:22Speaker 8: pretty complimentary to each other. I feel like we're strong
- 25:26Speaker 8: in different sections, so like the things that overlap are
- 25:30Speaker 8: great because when it comes to our business stuff, I
- 25:33Speaker 8: feel like we are always on the same page. You
- 25:38Speaker 8: have to communicate a lot, even more than you would
- 25:42Speaker 8: just as a normal mother and daughter because business is
- 25:44Speaker 8: tied together. So it's like there is you know, there's
- 25:50Speaker 8: more responsibilities obviously, so like there are moments where mom
- 25:54Speaker 8: has to truly treat me like a business partner as
- 25:56Speaker 8: opposed to like her daughter. So it's like if I
- 25:58Speaker 8: want to go to the movies at least when I
- 26:01Speaker 8: was younger, and I want to go to the movies,
- 26:02Speaker 8: it's be like a business partner. But we have this
- 26:05Speaker 8: this and this to do, and like those three hours
- 26:07Speaker 8: at the movie, we actually need to prep and there
- 26:11Speaker 8: has to be an understanding too of like their sacrifice
- 26:14Speaker 8: on each of our sides, and there's so much respect
- 26:18Speaker 8: for what each of us are putting into the project.
- 26:20Speaker 8: I think are our main thing of why this works
- 26:25Speaker 8: is the communication, Like you have to be able to
- 26:29Speaker 8: say when something isn't exactly how you want or if
- 26:33Speaker 8: you have another idea, and I think mom really not.
- 26:37Speaker 8: I think Mom does provide a wonderful platform for me
- 26:41Speaker 8: to say how I feel with no judgment, and I
- 26:43Speaker 8: think that can be the difference between other mother daughter
- 26:47Speaker 8: relationships is that it can be so I'm the parent
- 26:51Speaker 8: and you're the child, which means don't tell me nothing,
- 26:55Speaker 8: And that just can't work if you're doing business together
- 26:58Speaker 8: like I'm not. I'm not here to be told what
- 27:01Speaker 8: to do by my mom, and Mom's not here to
- 27:02Speaker 8: be told what to do by me, like we're here
- 27:04Speaker 8: to work together.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree with that. You know what I would
- 27:09Speaker 5: also add to that is communication where the communication is key.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Respect within the communication is the anchor, right, So I
- 27:19Speaker 5: have I have an uncanny respect for this young woman,
- 27:25Speaker 5: right even at seven eight nine, twelve thirteen, seventeen years old,
- 27:30Speaker 5: understanding where she is developmentally, what is appropriate for her,
- 27:33Speaker 5: to understand what she can and cannot take. Because I'm
- 27:37Speaker 5: paying very close attention to her without trying to put
- 27:40Speaker 5: on to her something that I think she should or
- 27:43Speaker 5: want her to or dot dot dot, I have an
- 27:47Speaker 5: unusual understanding of when she's not feeling something or when
- 27:52Speaker 5: she actually does have to be pushed on the mother's
- 27:55Speaker 5: side or have to go well, hold on, now, what
- 27:57Speaker 5: you're saying is kind of not making sense, Like let's
- 27:59Speaker 5: really think about this, And you had said something earlier
- 28:02Speaker 5: about like sometimes I got to pull the mom card
- 28:04Speaker 5: and be like, well, I said so, and sometimes it
- 28:07Speaker 5: is that you know where, But then she'll understand that
- 28:10Speaker 5: as well. Like We've had many conversations where it's the
- 28:13Speaker 5: equivalent of you telling the child at five, Hey, sometimes
- 28:17Speaker 5: I'm not gonna tell you exactly why I'm telling you
- 28:20Speaker 5: to stop. I don't chase the ball into the street.
- 28:23Speaker 5: That's all you need to know. That's all you need
- 28:25Speaker 5: to know right now, and we can talk about it later.
- 28:28Speaker 5: And so we have to have, you know, in our business,
- 28:30Speaker 5: we had to have a very firm understanding of you know,
- 28:34Speaker 5: like one of our rules from the very beginning, before
- 28:36Speaker 5: we even started taking meetings or did our partnership with
- 28:38Speaker 5: you know, our group now, I said, don't ever disagree
- 28:43Speaker 5: with me in public, and I will ever disagree with
- 28:46Speaker 5: you period. We cannot give anybody any idea that we're
- 28:49Speaker 5: not on a united front. And if I say something
- 28:51Speaker 5: that's that hits you wrong or something, and vice versa,
- 28:56Speaker 5: we'll let it ride.
- 28:57Speaker 3: We get in the car.
- 28:57Speaker 5: We get in the house, Hey, I didn't like this.
- 28:59Speaker 5: This is actually what you said was not accurate. It's this,
- 29:02Speaker 5: And when we come back to the next meeting, I'll
- 29:04Speaker 5: be sure to address whatever I said, and you'll have
- 29:06Speaker 5: to be responsible to do the same. We have to
- 29:08Speaker 5: hold ourselves accountable first and then hold each other accountable.
- 29:12Speaker 5: And to Prana's point, we have a relationship and a
- 29:16Speaker 5: history of doing that for so many years now that
- 29:18Speaker 5: it's kind of like knee jerk. But we still have
- 29:21Speaker 5: regular mother daughter stuff. You know what I'm saying. It
- 29:23Speaker 5: happens often and always, and it will because we are
- 29:26Speaker 5: two different people.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I'm just so impressed. I mean, I think I've just
- 29:31Speaker 1: met you and listening to this, like to Keith is
- 29:33Speaker 1: just like a model mom, like she handles things so well,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and Parana listening to her like I would like to
- 29:39Speaker 1: adopt her daughter.
- 29:42Speaker 3: They would be pro absolutely well.
- 29:44Speaker 1: We have some women who would also like to ask
- 29:47Speaker 1: you questions and they are zoomer moms. So welcome zoomer moms.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Welcome to the mom's club. Let's jump into it. Okay,
- 29:53Speaker 1: welcome zoomer moms. Lauren, welcome to the mom's Club. Tell
- 29:57Speaker 1: us a little bit about yourself and do you have
- 29:59Speaker 1: a question for to Keith and Prana.
- 30:02Speaker 3: I do.
- 30:02Speaker 7: Hi, guys, I and my name is Lauren and I
- 30:08Speaker 7: am from Shreemport, Louisiana, but I grew up in Los
- 30:12Speaker 7: Angeles and I live in Miami now. I actually lived
- 30:16Speaker 7: in Nashville for five years and I moved from la
- 30:21Speaker 7: to Nashville too, and it was such a big change,
- 30:24Speaker 7: but it was such an amazing change because everyone was
- 30:26Speaker 7: so welcoming and nice and just fabulous in the creative community.
- 30:30Speaker 7: So I really love talking to you guys, and you're
- 30:34Speaker 7: very inspiring, so thank you for that.
- 30:37Speaker 3: You know.
- 30:38Speaker 7: One question that I had was mother daughter duos. Musical
- 30:43Speaker 7: duos are so there's such a rare thing these days,
- 30:47Speaker 7: and I wanted to know what shaped your sound as
- 30:51Speaker 7: a mother.
- 30:52Speaker 6: That's a really good question.
- 30:55Speaker 5: I think it kind of goes back to the Prano
- 30:57Speaker 5: will have her own assessment, but I think it kind
- 31:00Speaker 5: of goes back to our inspiration and the things that
- 31:02Speaker 5: we already kind of are drawing from from from our
- 31:06Speaker 5: experience of music, our connection to music. But when we
- 31:11Speaker 5: created the project, we weren't anticipating or trying to make
- 31:15Speaker 5: country music. That really wasn't it at all. We were
- 31:18Speaker 5: looking to create a unique sound that was true to
- 31:23Speaker 5: our natural voices when we're just singing a cappella or
- 31:25Speaker 5: with guitar accompaniment or piano accompaniment. And I was very
- 31:30Speaker 5: interested in making sure that the sound wasn't a derivative
- 31:33Speaker 5: of hip hop, directly because of my history and because
- 31:36Speaker 5: of who her father is. I needed something that was
- 31:38Speaker 5: gonna really set us apart and create our own, natural, organic,
- 31:45Speaker 5: authentic sound. And I wanted it stripped down, and you know,
- 31:49Speaker 5: I definitely wanted a fiddle, and I wanted, you know,
- 31:52Speaker 5: a banjo, a lot of string instruments and African percussion
- 31:55Speaker 5: and things like that. But I was never trying to
- 31:58Speaker 5: make country and I don't think Prona was either it
- 32:00Speaker 5: was just something that now what naturally happened. We were
- 32:03Speaker 5: calling it folk for a while and then we were
- 32:05Speaker 5: like okay. Then Nashville said no, it's Americana, and then
- 32:08Speaker 5: other folks in Natal said no, it's country. So you
- 32:12Speaker 5: know that's kind of my take on it.
- 32:14Speaker 6: Pete No, I mean well said.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Brittany, welcome to the Mom's Club.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Tell us a little bit about yourself and do you
- 32:22Speaker 3: have a question.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Yes, hi ladies, Hi, Hello, my name is Brittany. I
- 32:30Speaker 4: am actually a transplant here in Texas. It's from California.
- 32:35Speaker 5: I love that for you.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Welcome, I yues.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Yes, I know most a lot of you already said
- 32:41Speaker 4: your transplants of the South. And one thing I will
- 32:44Speaker 4: tell you is I am loving country music even more
- 32:49Speaker 4: so before this. I definitely like listen to you girls
- 32:53Speaker 4: as music, and you know, definitely inspired because I'm starting
- 32:57Speaker 4: to get into some of the artists that some of
- 32:59Speaker 4: you girls have brought up and I'm like, wow, like
- 33:02Speaker 4: because I come from a background of music too as well,
- 33:04Speaker 4: like the STEVIEE Wonders and.
- 33:06Speaker 6: And as well as Earth Wind and Fire.
- 33:08Speaker 4: So yes girl, all that hey, yes, from my grandma,
- 33:14Speaker 4: So I can definitely relate to that. Uh, this question
- 33:17Speaker 4: is actually for it's Priina right Preina Krana's part of
- 33:22Speaker 4: Mekrana has a black like woman, especially young woman in
- 33:28Speaker 4: country music. Of visibility, especially on social media, you know,
- 33:33Speaker 4: comes with a lot of expectations. And I know that
- 33:36Speaker 4: you're entering into this world of being a young woman
- 33:41Speaker 4: of your of yourself. But how do you stay in
- 33:44Speaker 4: control of your narrative for you as you're growing into
- 33:49Speaker 4: become in this woman personally without feeling like pressured over
- 33:54Speaker 4: share yourself online? Because I know that it could be
- 33:57Speaker 4: a lot of pressure, especially for me, I know, being
- 34:01Speaker 4: you know, online and having to separate my personal from business.
- 34:05Speaker 3: How do you.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Throw that narrative for yourself as a young woman growing
- 34:11Speaker 4: into this.
- 34:12Speaker 8: That's a great question, That's a really great question. I am.
- 34:20Speaker 8: I really do not love social media, and so I
- 34:23Speaker 8: think my strong personality has forced me to make sure
- 34:28Speaker 8: I have a really strong what's the word I'm looking
- 34:32Speaker 8: for boundaries about that, And so I think for me,
- 34:37Speaker 8: I have to understand that it's it's my career and
- 34:41Speaker 8: it's my life.
- 34:42Speaker 6: And although there is definitely.
- 34:43Speaker 8: Outside pressure of like the label will tell you need
- 34:46Speaker 8: to do this, and then people in comments will say
- 34:49Speaker 8: you should be doing that. But at the end of
- 34:52Speaker 8: the day, it's like, it is my life and I
- 34:54Speaker 8: have to feel comfortable with what I'm doing. And my
- 35:00Speaker 8: approach to it really is like can I go to
- 35:03Speaker 8: sleep at night feeling like I've represented myself honestly? And
- 35:07Speaker 8: I think when you're in the public eye, there's also
- 35:09Speaker 8: a lot of pressure of like whether you want to
- 35:12Speaker 8: be or not, you are a role model in some sense,
- 35:15Speaker 8: and so I feel like I just approach it really honestly.
- 35:21Speaker 8: I'm messy and flawed and so so many things, you know,
- 35:26Speaker 8: humans are so many things that I just try to
- 35:28Speaker 8: be like, if I'm having a great day, I'm being
- 35:30Speaker 8: honest about that online if I'm not. Even sometimes on
- 35:33Speaker 8: our Instagram, I'll post things of being like, hey, we're
- 35:36Speaker 8: not going to be on social media this week because
- 35:39Speaker 8: I need to be like in the real world, because
- 35:41Speaker 8: that's the other part. I think when you spend so
- 35:43Speaker 8: much time on social media, it bleeds over into real life.
- 35:48Speaker 8: You start to feel a little disconnected from what is
- 35:50Speaker 8: real and what isn't, and I think people's perception of
- 35:54Speaker 8: you can start to.
- 35:55Speaker 6: Feel like reality.
- 35:56Speaker 8: And I think that's also the part that helps me
- 35:59Speaker 8: is I'm like what they say on social media is curated.
- 36:03Speaker 6: It is.
- 36:03Speaker 8: It is truly a small, curated window to what I'm
- 36:06Speaker 8: like as a person. So if someone thinks I'm this,
- 36:10Speaker 8: or someone thinks I'm that, I'm like, they only have
- 36:12Speaker 8: this tiny little scope anyway, So like, no pressure, because
- 36:16Speaker 8: that's only a small, small, small part of me.
- 36:19Speaker 2: So I'm gonna jump in. Do you read comments?
- 36:23Speaker 6: Not really? Yeah? Yeah, not really.
- 36:26Speaker 8: I find I read comments once one of our videos
- 36:30Speaker 8: had blown up on TikTok.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah, mom's laughing, so do tell the story.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 8: There were some hilarious because some of the comments were like,
- 36:40Speaker 8: which I thought these were sweet and also so funny,
- 36:42Speaker 8: But a lot of the comments actually were like love
- 36:45Speaker 8: this song.
- 36:46Speaker 6: This isn't country music, though.
- 36:48Speaker 8: I'm like, oh, that's like a weird thing to add.
- 36:52Speaker 8: And then other people the outfit.
- 36:54Speaker 6: I was wearing in this video.
- 36:59Speaker 8: They were like, which, honestly, I was being really lazy
- 37:01Speaker 8: when I got dressed that day and they called me
- 37:03Speaker 8: out on it. But there were some comments that being like,
- 37:06Speaker 8: oh I love the song, these girls are so cute.
- 37:09Speaker 8: The girl needs a stylist though, and that as someone
- 37:13Speaker 8: like prides themself on being fashionable, I was like, yeah, devastated.
- 37:19Speaker 8: And you know what, though I was being lazy that day,
- 37:22Speaker 8: I was wearing like a pink and green striped sweater
- 37:25Speaker 8: and then a black and white polka dot skirt and
- 37:28Speaker 8: then red Mary Jane's is.
- 37:30Speaker 2: That you just called yourself out?
- 37:35Speaker 4: Like I know that went viral myself and the best
- 37:38Speaker 4: thing that someone told me is respond in the comments
- 37:42Speaker 4: to keep the engagement going. But hey, I would have
- 37:45Speaker 4: been like, listen, you know it's my style, my fash
- 37:48Speaker 4: what would you have recommended.
- 37:52Speaker 6: Ended?
- 37:53Speaker 4: Let's let's go for the outfit for outfit.
- 37:58Speaker 5: Yours.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I'll show you five of mine.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Let's what's really scary on TikTok at the bottom is
- 38:05Speaker 1: where they tell you these comments have been folded to
- 38:08Speaker 1: protect your mental health.
- 38:09Speaker 3: I don't even I don't open that.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I don't even dare open them because but yeah, I
- 38:14Speaker 1: hear you totally prominent because our social media people, I mean,
- 38:16Speaker 1: they help us. You know, I do these funny, silly
- 38:19Speaker 1: videos they can I ended up hopping on a hoppity
- 38:22Speaker 1: hop and I.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Have to live with that the rest of the life.
- 38:28Speaker 4: That's rough, and that's how you take it as a joke,
- 38:32Speaker 4: like you should engage in it. It's I think it's
- 38:35Speaker 4: funny when people comment and it's like like that you should.
- 38:38Speaker 4: You could take it as a take it and run
- 38:41Speaker 4: with it.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Yeah, like the thing that.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Happened with the doctor Pepper girl just recently. You know, Yes,
- 38:47Speaker 4: it as a joke and then all of a sudden,
- 38:49Speaker 4: you know, it became a thing.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's true. That's true.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Roxy, Welcome to the Mom's Club.
- 38:56Speaker 9: I love when you sing the list and the music
- 39:01Speaker 9: because it seems to go with most of the genre
- 39:03Speaker 9: of people that love country and western and rap and
- 39:06Speaker 9: hip hop.
- 39:07Speaker 10: But I want to know as a psychologist, when you're
- 39:10Speaker 10: not getting along and you have a great synergy, but
- 39:14Speaker 10: sometimes as mother and daughters, we butt heads. When you're
- 39:16Speaker 10: not getting along, how do you work through and navigate
- 39:21Speaker 10: when you're angry as hell at each other? How do
- 39:25Speaker 10: you navigate to the other side to get to where
- 39:30Speaker 10: you want to perform and give the best show you
- 39:32Speaker 10: can possibly give to the audience.
- 39:35Speaker 2: That's a great They have an outfit and a sing off.
- 39:43Speaker 5: That's great, hilarious.
- 39:47Speaker 6: No, I have a shot of tequila.
- 39:52Speaker 5: And then then I let it all wash away and
- 39:54Speaker 5: we hug it out.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Then part is I feel like mom and I Mam
- 40:02Speaker 8: and I notoriously get over arguments very fast.
- 40:04Speaker 6: Also, like we will be going at it.
- 40:08Speaker 8: And then and then when it's over, then we'll be like,
- 40:10Speaker 8: in like an hour, we'll be like, do you.
- 40:12Speaker 6: Want to go get food or something? You know?
- 40:16Speaker 8: But no, that's a great question because uh, in the
- 40:20Speaker 8: times that that has been the case, where it's just
- 40:22Speaker 8: been like we were butting heads about something or I
- 40:24Speaker 8: think on show days especially, things can be so chaotic
- 40:27Speaker 8: that it's easy to get irritable. Honestly, being on stage,
- 40:34Speaker 8: you kind of just gotta lock in.
- 40:37Speaker 5: Here's the thing, before we even get on stage, we
- 40:39Speaker 5: pray before we go on stage. With the band we have,
- 40:41Speaker 5: like our main band we were, they're always with us,
- 40:44Speaker 5: and generally we're all like cousins to each other.
- 40:49Speaker 6: Like siblings and cousins.
- 40:51Speaker 5: So they see us kind of going back and forth
- 40:53Speaker 5: and stuff. I mean, there's always one who starts laughing
- 40:56Speaker 5: because everybody thinks when we're arguing that it's the funniest
- 40:59Speaker 5: thing they've ever seen. Because our style of arguing is
- 41:02Speaker 5: not bickering our style of arguing is we sound how
- 41:05Speaker 5: we sound right now basically, except we're arguing, and everybody's like, wait,
- 41:09Speaker 5: what's going on? Is but are y'all arguing right now?
- 41:11Speaker 7: Is that?
- 41:12Speaker 5: Well?
- 41:12Speaker 6: I think I.
- 41:13Speaker 8: Think they also find it funny because of Mom and
- 41:15Speaker 8: I's like reactions and then like the vocabulary we use
- 41:19Speaker 8: because Mom and I call each other girl a lot.
- 41:22Speaker 8: Some people think I'm on the phone with my mom.
- 41:24Speaker 8: They think I'm talking to my Sister's like girl, what, No,
- 41:27Speaker 8: I wouldn't And when we have arguments, will be like, girl,
- 41:31Speaker 8: you're not even listening to.
- 41:32Speaker 6: Me right now.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm notorious for on show, So Prana, if you
- 41:37Speaker 5: can't tell, like I said earlier, it's very even very
- 41:40Speaker 5: you know, she can read the comments because she's not tripping.
- 41:44Speaker 5: I cannot read the comments period. Everything personal. I'm ready
- 41:48Speaker 5: to fight. So the show. So she tends to like
- 41:51Speaker 5: on a show day, she's blowing around the house like,
- 41:54Speaker 5: hey girl, you know the makeup artist is there and
- 41:56Speaker 5: she's got her tea or whatever, and I'm like, already,
- 42:00Speaker 5: you know, I probably have had three meetings already. I'm
- 42:03Speaker 5: still dealing with the executives. I'm doing all the things,
- 42:05Speaker 5: and so I get frazzled until it's like time to
- 42:09Speaker 5: set our foot on the stage. So she, in my defense,
- 42:13Speaker 5: she actually is the one who kind of brings the
- 42:16Speaker 5: energy down. So we are bickering, she kind of is
- 42:18Speaker 5: like girl everything you know.
- 42:22Speaker 2: It's really humbling as a mom is that when the
- 42:26Speaker 2: child is directing you or brings you ground to ground zero.
- 42:32Speaker 2: And and I find that happens a lot to me.
- 42:37Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean my but I can say, like,
- 42:42Speaker 2: you guys are amazing because when you tell me Tita
- 42:46Speaker 2: that you actually you're like, all right, I need to
- 42:49Speaker 2: hear you out. And I think that's that that's half
- 42:52Speaker 2: the battle. And then they teach you something and they
- 42:55Speaker 2: keep you grounded and you I can see this in
- 42:58Speaker 2: your relationship and it's it's absolutely truly amazing.
- 43:03Speaker 1: I think you I know you all are very busy
- 43:06Speaker 1: making music, but you all need to contact masterclass and
- 43:08Speaker 1: maybe you need to teach a class on mother daughter relationships.
- 43:13Speaker 3: I think that would be a big hit. Write a
- 43:15Speaker 3: book about it. Oh my gosh, you should do yeah,
- 43:17Speaker 3: because I think you've got the right balance. Yeah, you've
- 43:21Speaker 3: got it figured out.
- 43:22Speaker 1: And there's a lot of mothers out there who probably
- 43:26Speaker 1: wouldn't know.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I think I'm amazing. I'm just gonna say it.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Yeah, you are amazing.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I don't want to put you guys on the spot,
- 43:38Speaker 2: but you want to sing a couple of lines?
- 43:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah, let's you don't have to Hey from guilty
- 43:43Speaker 1: you think you know what I mean?
- 43:46Speaker 2: Can't we do that on it at all?
- 43:50Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 43:52Speaker 5: That might be a little challenging. Okay, well screen if
- 43:55Speaker 5: we were together in the same.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Oh, that's true. Yeah, you're asking to do it, to
- 43:59Speaker 3: sing from different rooms together.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I mean, it's a good way for them everyone to
- 44:07Speaker 2: now go to your Instagram and get to hear you guys.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I need to do that right now. In fact, tell
- 44:12Speaker 1: them where they can go to find One the Duo.
- 44:15Speaker 8: Oh man, you can go to one the Duo, which
- 44:17Speaker 8: is our Instagram, our YouTube, Twitter or.
- 44:22Speaker 6: We're formally known as Twitter.
- 44:24Speaker 8: And then we have our website Onethduo dot com and
- 44:27Speaker 8: we update that website with our shows and any need
- 44:31Speaker 8: to know information.
- 44:33Speaker 2: What's coming out? Tell us something exciting that you're looking
- 44:36Speaker 2: forward to, you.
- 44:38Speaker 5: Know, songwriting, songwriting, songwriting, songwriting. We're ready for a new
- 44:42Speaker 5: single to drop. We took kind of a break last
- 44:45Speaker 5: year to reassess and reorganize some of our business and
- 44:49Speaker 5: so touring Blood Harmony this year is on top of
- 44:52Speaker 5: the list and writing new songs for the follow up album.
- 44:56Speaker 5: That's what, That's what twenty twenty six is all about.
- 44:58Speaker 5: More interfacing with the audience, live, yes, offline and get outside.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Great great well, check it out, everybody, and thank you

- 45:31Speaker 1: we've almost tripled that already. I didn't have time to
