- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, So are you ready to like dive deep into
- 0:02Speaker 1: how AI is like taking over retail?
- 0:06Speaker 2: I'm ready.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Okay, it's not even sci fi fantasy anymore. No, Like
- 0:10Speaker 1: AI is actually like low key shaping how we shop
- 0:14Speaker 1: right now, and we're going to go deep today on
- 0:17Speaker 1: how this tech is changing everything.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Like all those recommendations you see online, that's AI.
- 0:23Speaker 1: So like those you might also like things like those
- 0:26Speaker 1: aren't just random Nope, Oh really, it's AI like crunching
- 0:30Speaker 1: tons of data about you.
- 0:31Speaker 2: So like every time I'm like on a page, looking
- 0:34Speaker 2: at something for too long, or like leave something in
- 0:37Speaker 2: my cart.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yep, they're keeping track. AI is like watching ah pretty much.
- 0:41Speaker 2: So it is like my personal shopper who never sleeps.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 0:45Speaker 2: That's both cool and kind of scary.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It is, But I mean does.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It even really work? Oh? Yeah, Like are the recommendations
- 0:53Speaker 2: helpful or is it just more like noise?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Well think about it this way, Okay. Imagine going into
- 0:59Speaker 1: a bookstore with millions of books, okay and no one
- 1:02Speaker 1: to help you.
- 1:03Speaker 2: That's how I feel right now.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It'd be overwhelming, cit definitely.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So these AI recommendations, Yeah, they're kind of like that
- 1:10Speaker 2: filter oh okay, helping you get through all that.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Stuff so I don't have to look at everything and you.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Might find something you didn't even know you wanted. And
- 1:18Speaker 2: for stores, yeah, it's awesome. Really they sell more stuff
- 1:21Speaker 2: and people come back for more.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So it's a win win for sure. But what about
- 1:25Speaker 1: all that data they're collecting on me? Right, Like, is
- 1:28Speaker 1: it worth like giving up my privacy for convenience?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Well, luckily more people are thinking about data privacy these days. Okay, good,
- 1:35Speaker 2: And there are rules like GDPR Yeah that give you
- 1:39Speaker 2: more control over your data.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Okay, that's good.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And stores are realizing they got to be more open
- 1:44Speaker 2: about what they're doing.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So it's like they need to be more transparent.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So we want the personalized stuff, but we want our
- 1:50Speaker 1: privacy to and we have to trust these companies with.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Our data definitely.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Okay. Well, another place AI is popping up is in
- 1:58Speaker 1: customer service. And I'm sure you've talked to those chatbots
- 2:01Speaker 1: on websites and sometimes like they don't get what I'm saying,
- 2:05Speaker 1: Uh huh? Are those things really the future of customer service?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Well, think of them like the first line of defense.
- 2:11Speaker 2: They can answer like the basic questions and give you
- 2:13Speaker 2: quick info yeah, or even walk you through simple problems.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And the best part, they're available like twenty four to seven.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Oh that's nice, So no more waiting on hold forever,
- 2:24Speaker 2: thank goodness. But when it's something complicated, yeah, you'll probably
- 2:29Speaker 2: still need to talk to a person.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So they will be replacing people entirely, right.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Okay, it's more about changing what those people do.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So like the AI does the simple stuff and people
- 2:40Speaker 1: can handle the more complex things exactly, So AI and
- 2:44Speaker 1: humans working together.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Like a team.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I like it.
- 2:47Speaker 2: But AI is doing a lot more behind the scenes too,
- 2:49Speaker 2: Like what like how stores manage all their stuff and
- 2:52Speaker 2: get it to you?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I've always wondered how they keep the right
- 2:56Speaker 1: stuff on the shelves.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually super complicated. It's like, well, AI is
- 3:01Speaker 2: like the conductor of that magic, okay, making sure everything
- 3:04Speaker 2: runs smoothly.
- 3:05Speaker 1: So instead of guessing, stores are using AI to predict
- 3:10Speaker 1: what people want and get it to them.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why they're using all kinds of data like
- 3:15Speaker 2: past sales and even the weather the weather uh huh
- 3:19Speaker 2: to predict what people will buy.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So that means less waste exactly, And I'm less likely
- 3:24Speaker 1: to see that dreaded out of stock message. Right, so
- 3:27Speaker 1: everyone wins, Yeah, less waste and hopefully lower prices potentially. Okay,
- 3:32Speaker 1: But it doesn't stop there, right Nope. What about those
- 3:35Speaker 1: physical stores?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Those are changing too, So AI is even coming.
- 3:38Speaker 1: For brick and mortar stores, you got it? Are there
- 3:40Speaker 1: gonna be like robots roam in the aisles?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Not quite robots, but something just as cool.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Okay, I'm intrigued.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It's called computer vision.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Computer vision, it's like.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Giving the store eyes nice yeah, cameras and sensors all
- 3:54Speaker 2: over the place. They can track how people move through
- 3:57Speaker 2: the store, what they look at, and how long they
- 3:59Speaker 2: stay in certain areas.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So it's watching me shop, well.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Not you specifically, okay. It's using that info to see
- 4:06Speaker 2: like overall patterns.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Okay, that makes me feel better.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It helps them figure out how to make the store better.
- 4:11Speaker 1: For everyone, So the store is learning from me kind of.
- 4:14Speaker 1: That's kind of trippy, it is. But AI in stores
- 4:18Speaker 1: can also be about convenience, right right, Like those self
- 4:22Speaker 1: checkout things. I have a complicated relationship with those.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Uh huh, I get it.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Sometimes they work great, other times it's a disaster.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Well, AI is making them even smarter.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Oh good.
- 4:32Speaker 2: They can recognize the products better and handle different ways
- 4:36Speaker 2: to pay, and even guide you through the process so
- 4:39Speaker 2: I don't look like a fool exactly.
- 4:41Speaker 1: So it's about choices, right, Yeah, Like I can use
- 4:44Speaker 1: the self checkout if I'm in a hurry.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Or if you want to avoid people, exactly.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Or I can go to a cash here if I
- 4:49Speaker 1: need help.
- 4:49Speaker 2: You got it.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It's like choosing your own adventure. Okay. But this personalization
- 4:53Speaker 1: stuff goes beyond the store, right.
- 4:56Speaker 2: You're thinking omni channel.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Omni channel is that like a fancy word for online shopping.
- 5:01Speaker 2: It's more than that. Oh, it's like connecting all the
- 5:03Speaker 2: dots okay, your online stuff. Yeah, you're in store purchases
- 5:08Speaker 2: and even when you talk to customer service.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So it's like one big shopping experience.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah, all connected.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Give me an example.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Okay, say you're looking at shoes online. Yeah, and then
- 5:18Speaker 2: your phone buzzes. Oh, and it's a notification that those
- 5:22Speaker 2: shoes are on sale okay at a store near you.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Wow, that's pretty cool.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It's like the store knows what you want and where
- 5:29Speaker 2: I am exactly.
- 5:30Speaker 1: That's wild. That's ai My mind is blown.
- 5:33Speaker 2: We've only just begun.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I can't wait to hear more.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We'll pick it up in part two.
- 5:37Speaker 1: This AI stuff is really changing the game, it is,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and we're just getting started.
- 5:41Speaker 2: That's right, So welcome back.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I'm still thinking about all the ways AI is changing shopping.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's wild, right, but there's more right, Oh yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 2: way more?
- 5:50Speaker 1: Okay, hit me with it.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Have you heard of dynamic pricing?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Is it like when prices change all the time.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, like airline tickets or concert ticket.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like they're messing with me.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Well, AI is often behind that, really. Yeah. It lets
- 6:03Speaker 2: stores change prices constantly based on all sorts of things
- 6:07Speaker 2: like what like how much stuff they have left? Okay,
- 6:09Speaker 2: what the competitors are doing, so.
- 6:11Speaker 1: They're watching each other yep, and even like how many
- 6:14Speaker 1: people want something at a certain time exactly. So it's
- 6:18Speaker 1: not just supply and demand anymore.
- 6:19Speaker 2: It's like AI is playing this game with prices.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Trying to figure out how to make the most money.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That's a good way to put it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: So for shoppers, it means.
- 6:28Speaker 2: You might get a good deal if you're lucky, if
- 6:30Speaker 2: I'm lucky, or if you're a loyal customer.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So it's like a gamble kind of. But could AI
- 6:36Speaker 1: like charge some people more than others. That's a worry
- 6:39Speaker 1: for sure, Yeah, doesn't seem fair.
- 6:41Speaker 2: The key is transparency.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:43Speaker 2: If stores are using AI for pricing, yeah, they should tell.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Us so we know what's going on. We've talked a
- 6:50Speaker 1: lot about the customer. Yeah, but what about the people
- 6:52Speaker 1: who work in these stores?
- 6:54Speaker 2: Oh? AI's changing things for them too, how So like
- 6:57Speaker 2: scheduling employees, Oh yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 1: That's always a nightmare, right, too many people one day,
- 7:02Speaker 1: not enough the next.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Well, AI can help with that really. Yeah. It can
- 7:05Speaker 2: look at sales trends and stuff, and even local events.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Local events uh huh.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Like is there a big game that day? Okay, and
- 7:12Speaker 2: predict how many employees they'll need, so.
- 7:15Speaker 1: No more calling people in at the last minute.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Exactly, Like AI is the manager kind of. It can
- 7:21Speaker 2: even help with training what really? Yeah, it can give
- 7:25Speaker 2: feedback to employees and see where they need help.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So AI is taking over a lot of the manager's job.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's freeing up those managers to focus on other things
- 7:35Speaker 2: like what like working with employees and talking to customers.
- 7:39Speaker 1: So the human stuff exactly. I'm sensing a theme here.
- 7:42Speaker 1: What's that AI is good at the stuff that involves
- 7:47Speaker 1: a lot of data, and that frees up humans to
- 7:50Speaker 1: do what we're good at.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, like being creative and connecting with people.
- 7:53Speaker 1: This is happening in other industries too, right, definitely? Yeah. Okay,
- 7:57Speaker 1: back to retail. Okay, we've talked about how AI is
- 8:00Speaker 1: making things more efficient, but can it make shopping more fun?
- 8:05Speaker 2: I think so?
- 8:06Speaker 1: Okay, I like fun.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Remember that feeling when you find something awesome you didn't
- 8:09Speaker 2: know you needed.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, like that perfect pair of shoes.
- 8:12Speaker 2: AI can help you find more of those moments. It
- 8:15Speaker 2: can be like a digital concierge. Concierge guiding you to
- 8:19Speaker 2: things you'll love.
- 8:19Speaker 1: It's like having a personal shopper in my phone. Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Imagine an app that knows what you like okay, and
- 8:25Speaker 2: considers your mood. My mood and even the weather.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So if it's raining, it'll recommend a good book. Maybe
- 8:31Speaker 1: I love it.
- 8:31Speaker 2: It's like AI is your lifestyle guru.
- 8:34Speaker 1: It knows me so well that's the goal. But are
- 8:37Speaker 1: any stores actually doing this? Oh?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Like Sphor is a good example.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Sephora, the makeup store.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yep, they have this app that uses augmented reality. Oh wow,
- 8:48Speaker 2: so you can try on different makeup lits.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Without actually putting it on. Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 8:52Speaker 2: It's fun and it helps you find the right products.
- 8:55Speaker 1: What about other stores.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Nike is doing some cool stuff too.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 8:58Speaker 2: They're using AI to make their stores really interactive.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Okay, are there robots selling shoes?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Not robots, but they have these displays ok that react
- 9:08Speaker 2: to your touch.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And they have this thing called Nike Fit. Nike Fit
- 9:12Speaker 2: it scans your feet to find the perfect shoe size.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That's awesome. No more guessing, right, Okay. What about Starbucks.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They're using AI for their loyalty program.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I love Starbars.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Well, their AI knows what you like. That's a little scary,
- 9:26Speaker 2: and it sends you special offers.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Oh okay, that's nice.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And it can even predict what you'll order.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So they'll have my latte ready when I walk in exactly.
- 9:35Speaker 1: That's both impressive and creepy.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It's like they know you better than you know yourself.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Maybe they do.
- 9:41Speaker 2: It's all about making you feel like a special customer.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'm starting to see the appeal of AI.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It's not all bad.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It can be really helpful and fun, but We have
- 9:51Speaker 1: to be careful.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Right, Absolutely, we need to make sure AI is used responsibly.
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's a powerful tool.
- 9:57Speaker 2: And like any tool, it can be used in the
- 9:58Speaker 2: wrong way, so.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We need to be smart about it. Yes, this has
- 10:01Speaker 1: been an incredible journey, I know, right, We've learned so
- 10:05Speaker 1: much about AI and retail.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And we're just getting started.
- 10:08Speaker 1: What's next?
- 10:09Speaker 2: In part three, we'll look into the future, the future
- 10:12Speaker 2: of AI and shopping. Buckle up, it's gonna be wild, definitely.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So we're back and my brain is still buzzing from
- 10:20Speaker 1: everything we've talked about.
- 10:21Speaker 2: You know right, AI is already changing so much.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Well, we're not done yet.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Nope, We're going to the future, the.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Future of shopping.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, what's it going to be like?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Okay, I'm ready, give me the inside scoop.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Imagine this, Your fridge orders groceries for you. My fridge
- 10:37Speaker 2: it knows when you're running low on stuff.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So I never run out of milk again, exactly. And
- 10:41Speaker 1: what about clothes.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Your smart mirror could suggest outfits my mirror based on
- 10:48Speaker 2: the weather and what you're doing.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That day, So no more staring at my closet for
- 10:51Speaker 1: an hour exactly.
- 10:53Speaker 2: AI takes care of the boring stuff. I love it
- 10:55Speaker 2: and think about this. Okay, you walk into a store, yeah,
- 10:59Speaker 2: and hologram greets you.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Whoa hold on a hologram.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Yeah, like a virtual assistant, and it knows like my style.
- 11:06Speaker 2: It knows everything you've ever bought. Wow, and even how
- 11:09Speaker 2: you're feeling that day.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So we'll be like, hey, you've seen stress today, here's
- 11:13Speaker 1: some comfy clothes.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Maybe it could even offer you a cup of tea.
- 11:16Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 11:17Speaker 2: This is all possible with AI.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So the store of the future is like a personalized
- 11:21Speaker 1: experience exactly.
- 11:22Speaker 2: It's all about you.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So online shopping and in store shopping are merging.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Exactly. You could be browsing online and then use AR
- 11:30Speaker 2: to see how that couch would look in your living room.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we talked about AR before.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It's going to be everywhere.
- 11:36Speaker 1: But what about jobs, right?
- 11:38Speaker 2: People are worried about that.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Will robots take over all the jobs?
- 11:41Speaker 2: I don't think so oh okay, good, Hey, I will
- 11:43Speaker 2: definitely change some jobs, but it's more likely to work
- 11:47Speaker 2: with people, so like a team. Exactly. AI can do
- 11:51Speaker 2: the repetitive stuff and.
- 11:52Speaker 1: People can do the things that need creativity, right or empathy,
- 11:56Speaker 1: So there will still be a need for people in retail.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's good to be here.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But we need to be aware of the potential downsides too.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, like what, well, AI can be biased biased
- 12:07Speaker 2: if the data it learns from is biased. Oh okay,
- 12:10Speaker 2: I see, then the AI might make biased decisions.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's not good.
- 12:14Speaker 2: We have to be careful about that.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And what about privacy, right.
- 12:16Speaker 2: All that data AI collects, Yeah, we need rules to
- 12:20Speaker 2: protect our privacy so.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Companies can't just do whatever they want with my data exactly.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Transparency is key.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We need to know what's happening.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And have control over our own data.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Well, this has been a whirlwind, it has. AI in
- 12:31Speaker 1: retail is a big.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Topic and it's constantly evolving.
- 12:34Speaker 1: But it's exciting to think about the possibilities it is.
- 12:37Speaker 2: We're just scratching the surface.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what the future holds me too.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us on this deep dive into AI
- 12:44Speaker 1: in retail.
- 12:45Speaker 2: It's been a pleasure.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Until next time, keep exploring
