- 1:30Hello. What is it? Hello? Hello? I don't know conness.
- 1:38Maybe they weren't expecting a man to answer, or at least not me.
- 1:42I wouldn't know about that. What about this guy who was lying unconscious
- 1:45in your closet? Would you know anything about that? No, Jenny,
- 1:48I didn't think you would. I'll give another shot at those smelling salts.
- 1:52I think he's a gunny tool good. Maybe he'll know about some of these
- 1:55things. Yes, you will some of him, and of course he will
- 2:00tell you. I was hoping it would not be brought out. I did
- 2:02not want you to know. Murder is usually brought out sooner or later.
- 2:07Not to murder, Johnny, it is not that simple tonight at every weekday
- 2:20Night Bob Bailey and the Transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed Expense
- 2:23Acount America's Fabulous freelance insurance Investigator Yours Trulli Johnny Dollar. From Special Investigator Johnny
- 2:38Dollar, location, Algiers, North Africa to the home office trans World Fidelity
- 2:43Company, Hartford, Connecticut. Assignment the Larco Diamonds matter expense account Continue Item
- 2:51six nine dollars and thirty cents, smelling salts and a bottle of Scotch.
- 2:54The smelling salts were needed for a double talking fellow named Zendorff who had manage
- 2:59to get himself gassed after death in a closet. A representative of your client
- 3:02who suffered one hundred thousand dollars loss. Local Diamonds of Amsterdam. The Scotch
- 3:07was for me, Johnny. He doesn't like it. Should I go on
- 3:12holding them under his nose? Yeah? Sure, keep shoving him at him
- 3:15until he's strong enough to fight you off. I shall smelling salts work.
- 3:19A person has to come to and share your self defend nine nine stops more
- 3:23too plenty. Already my nose is killed dead, No more, maybe even
- 3:30poking it into the wrong places. What were you doing in that closet,
- 3:32mister designed Off. It's nothing. I can tell you the entire thing in
- 3:37twos. Use more if you need him, but make it good. Nobody
- 3:40has find this beautiful diamond. Nobody has to doing anything. So I'm come
- 3:46looking for my own self in that closet. Nine is only for hiding.
- 3:52I am wait for everybody going away, going at sleep. Then I am
- 3:55going to look in my apartment. What made you think they would be here?
- 4:00You are pleased to forgiving me Forulean, but I am not taking the
- 4:05chance. I'm think to looking every place. Who turned on the gas out
- 4:10there? Do not ask it. I know nothing. I think I have
- 4:15sleeping some maybe and when I have waking, I am died. Almost Yeah,
- 4:19well, apparently somebody was out to get one of us at least,
- 4:23Hey, what about that? Maybe yours Maria or is the one? Of
- 4:26course she you know, it is strange she disappeared about the time you arrived,
- 4:32slipped out without a word. Does she live here? And she lives
- 4:35up in the cart bar? I hired her to the agent. Let see,
- 4:40do you think she did it? Oh? The more I find out,
- 4:42the less I'm sure of. Maybe mister Zigndoff did a trying to come
- 4:46at suicide over his missing trench. Suicide is one thing I am not and
- 4:51I desis to listen no more. I am to leave here immediate. Oh,
- 4:58by the way, mister Zigndoff, h what is it? As I
- 5:00understand that you boys in the international jewelry business are ordinarily pretty cautious in your
- 5:05dealings. Yeah, you are the prudence, my near always the entire prudent,
- 5:11That's what I mean. You always investigate a new client thoroughly before you
- 5:15take any chances. Is that right? It's entire correct, Johnny. Then
- 5:17why did you send a hundred thousand dollars worth of diamonds here to while years
- 5:21at the request of a woman who doesn't have a cent to a name?
- 5:25Why it is to me. These things are always happened, my dear dollar,
- 5:30I am the highest ethic of business. I cannot give you answering.
- 5:35Well, one of you better give me an answering. Oh it is all
- 5:39right, mister Zander, Please please you tell contestia all right? What is
- 5:47it trying to say? Johnny's it is? It did not matter about my
- 5:53financial standing because I was not actually climbed. What do you mean? You
- 5:59ordered to see several pieces and approval so I could make his selection anything up
- 6:04to twenty thousand dollars. Somebody else was paying for it. It was being
- 6:11given to me as a gift by home a fellow countryman of yours, a
- 6:15man named Charles Barrett. He's been here three months, lives on his yacht.
- 6:23Mister signed off. How did you know this man Barrett would pay for
- 6:26the diamond by the letter of mine? Here? What letter? When I
- 6:30wrote to the Lacal firm, I took the liberty of enclosing a letter written
- 6:33to me by mister Bart his own authentical signings. We investigate immediate. What
- 6:39sort of a letter wasn't he promised to pay for a gift jury up to
- 6:46twenty thousand dollars of my own selection in return for certain consideration. What consideration
- 6:56or romantic mine? Here? It is a little present of the Is that
- 7:00what I was Maria? An engagement present? Yes, let's see. I
- 7:06think I go now. It's too much. It's happened in this place.
- 7:15Is it all right to smoke her? Yeah? Sure, the guess is
- 7:18cleared up here. Thank you. I wish you hadn't kissed me, Johnny.
- 7:31I thought you said you liked him. I did that. That's why
- 7:35I wish you hadn't. Are you trying to say that all red legs,
- 7:41Johnny? I am not a child. No. I have not fallen in
- 7:45love with you any more than you have with me. But I could very
- 7:48easily. What about this man, Barrett? What's he like? An overbearing,
- 7:55spoiled, middle aged little boy. The price sounds kind of high.
- 7:59What else is there? Ever? Think I'm working where? At? What?
- 8:03In Italy? Yes? But do you know what's open there for an
- 8:05impoverished countess? And I suppose you can't get a work permit anywhere else?
- 8:11Is I don't? Oh, forgive it, Johnny. All I know how
- 8:15to do is be highly ornamental, say the right things to the right people,
- 8:18do the right things at the right time, and eat by stealing caviar
- 8:22at cocktail parties. You go hungry a lot that way. Yeah, I
- 8:28guess it's rough. Well I don't let's throw your honey. You're not the
- 8:33first girl who married for money. I guess you don't understand. Nobody has
- 8:41said anything about the marriage. Oh, I see wall, Johnny. I
- 8:48imagine you will be leaving now, So good night, Johnny, goodbye.
- 9:00For all the progress I'd made in the case, I went as well have
- 9:01stayed at home. Another fish off the hook. Logical suspect number one had
- 9:07been the Custom's property agent, Andre Jardine, but the blow on the head
- 9:11that sent him to the hospital hadn't been faked, and that, plus the
- 9:13fact the diamond courier had shown symptoms of poisoning before the plane even landed,
- 9:18seemed to leave Andrea in the clear. And now on number two. Maria
- 9:22Cattista Delille was apparently able to supply another answer every time she needed one,
- 9:26and her answers were backed up by hand Zimdorf, Lorco's own representative. We
- 9:35were shortcutting through the Harvard district when I began to realize that the same car
- 9:37had been behind us ever since we'd left Maria's. It was a low slung
- 9:41English job, expensive and easy to recognize. Driver, leave it, get
- 9:48the gas a little harder. See if you can shake that car behind us,
- 9:50may we The other car picked up speed to match arts, still held
- 9:56the same distance. A track, a couple of fast corners. I want
- 9:58to make sure. Yeah, the next place where the street narrows down,
- 10:07stop fast, swing crosswise, block off the road. I want to stop
- 10:11that guy and have a talk with him. Hey, you understand what I
- 10:13mean. Believe this year just like in the movie about something like that,
- 10:20and there's a place coming up. Let's let's have a go at it.
- 10:22You do not worry. I will do it good. I only hope we've
- 10:24seen the same movies. Now, I miss you. I was out of
- 10:35the cab, fast and running back down the street the other driver and jammed
- 10:37on his brakes and finally skidded to a stop against the curb. I reached
- 10:41for the handle, jerked the door open, and the man inside came on
- 10:43swing, A big man, little on the peaky side of plenty tough.
- 10:48I didn't know him, never seen it before. He fought silently and thought
- 10:50hired, but he was a sucker for the whip. I knelt down on
- 10:56the pavement and started to go through his pockets. I hadn't even know does
- 11:00the other car pull up? Do you merely plan to rob him? Or
- 11:07do you also intend to cook him and eat him? Now you really getting
- 11:09around, inspector. Policemen must socialize, monsieur. It broadens the outlaw.
- 11:13Come we walk, My chauffeur will take care of reviving your victims. You're
- 11:18having another victim, maybe, is Monsieur Shalls k Barrett of Chicago, Maria's
- 11:24ex boyfriend, something of this sort. I believe, how did you happen
- 11:28to get here so conveniently? Oh? I was following you father back,
- 11:33of course. And why didn't your petcheen want to fight started and spoil such
- 11:37a remarkable display of physticals. Okay, it is true the footwork was mediocre,
- 11:43but the enthusiasm, the violent super Monsieur. I can't quite figure your
- 11:48inspector. Well, sometime we must talk about it. Mossieur, you're be
- 11:54most happy to know that we have identified the person who occupied the plane seat
- 11:58next to the Diamond Corge. They shared a bottle of wine during the flight.
- 12:03Undoubtedly that is how the poison was administered. Who is the person A
- 12:07man named Bobo Bobo we He is well known in the Cazbar. He is
- 12:11a thief, smuggler, dope peddler, and it is said he can be
- 12:16had as a killer. Have you picked him up yet? I have not
- 12:18tried to. Why not? Why not, monsieur? In the Cazbar,
- 12:22At the sight of a uniform, everyone vanishes like rabbits in their hole casbar.
- 12:28Another thing. The property agent who was struck on the head, Andre
- 12:33Jordan, He has disappeared from the hospital room. Disappeared. How his window
- 12:37was open, the room was upset. It was very odd. Yeah,
- 12:43look, Inspector, I think I'll get on back to the hotel and get
- 12:48some sleep as you yeall talk to you tomorrow maybe. Oh there is one
- 12:52more thing, Missieur d I think perhaps I should warn you of something in
- 12:56the event you should call again on the contest. Warned me of what?
- 13:01Well? Two days ago I installed a dictaphone in her apartment. You what,
- 13:07I must admit, I found your conversation this evening most entertaining. Inspector.
- 13:15You are a rat. Please do not concern yourself in the least,
- 13:20I am this soul of discretion. Maybe, monsieur, I am a fournchman.
- 13:35Twice tonight, the Casbar had been mentioned a strange, mysterious native quarter
- 13:39on the steep hill behind the city. Maria had said her maid lived there,
- 13:45and now Bobo, who had given poisoned wine to the diamond carrier.
- 13:48I had an angle, and I had some ideas. The picture was finally
- 13:52starting to make sense. But I needed some more answers and the trail and
- 13:56entered the casbar. Johnny Dollar, this is Abdool. You don't know me.
- 14:20I have the little business. Well, I'm so happy for you.
- 14:22I hope it's doing well. Okay, Well, I don't know me,
- 14:26but you are looking for me. Now, Look, Joe, Abdol,
- 14:30it is a business to get jobs for people, for servants. Oh the
- 14:35employment agent. Have you got the address of that girl who worked for the
- 14:37Countess Delia Shore? You're very lucky, she's very preppy. You've got the
- 14:43wrong idea, Abdul. I just want to talk to her. Sure,
- 14:48where does she live? For twenty dollars, I will remember, I'll give
- 14:52you ten. No, she's worth more. Look, knock it off.
- 14:54I gotta find her and talk to her fast, while I'm still alive and
- 14:58while she is From Special Investigator Johnny Dollar location, Algiers, North Africa to
- 15:09the home office trans World Fidelity Company, Hartford, Connecticut. Assignment the local
- 15:13diamonds matter A hundred thousand dollars worth missing expense account continued, I am nine
- 15:20fifteen dollars even ratuity tip gift bonus a white kid about it. It was
- 15:26a pride for a man named Abdel, but the address of a girl named
- 15:30Chatta, an address up in the native port at the Kesba. But the
- 15:33idea wasn't romance, no matter what Ebdel thought. Four hours earlier, in
- 15:39the countless des apartment, somebody had turned on the gas and tried to kill
- 15:41one off both of us. It was nine to one that the somebody was
- 15:46chatted the servant. I wanted to ask her why. I put my coat
- 15:50on and was just on the point of leaving my hotel. I slipped a
- 15:54gun into my side pocket and moved over to the door. How is it,
- 16:00Barrett guy, you beat the daylights out of a couple of hours ago.
- 16:03You know what I mean? Oh, I'm feeling I just want to
- 16:06talk it over all right, Barrett, what's on your mind? You'll jack
- 16:14if I come inside. It's kind of personally, you know what I mean?
- 16:17Probably all right? Come on, its bl I didn't know who you
- 16:22were, but when we when we got in a little freakas at the cup,
- 16:26told me about it afterward, and you really got a wall upon you.
- 16:30You make a fella. No, he's at it, you know what
- 16:33I mean? Is that why you're here? A post mortem on the fighting
- 16:36on? It's done it over. You're whip me Farren square. As far
- 16:38as I'm concerned, Barrett, if you've got anything to say, let's have
- 16:41it fast. I'm in a hurry to get out of here. Well,
- 16:44I sure don't want to take up no more of your time than necessary.
- 16:47I know how it is. Of course, I'm on vacation now, but
- 16:49back in Chicago having a meat business. Look, Barrett, when you're policed
- 16:52in a way I am, I mean by products, actually, you know
- 16:56what they say, use everything with the squeal. I'm the fellow the cans
- 17:00squeers Again. Brother, what I come here for was maybe to get it
- 17:04straightened out about that dame. Do you mean the Countess? Don't counts him?
- 17:10Titles? Or a dime a dozen I can buy him, sell him
- 17:11like sausages. Oh what about her? I looked, neighbor. I was
- 17:15figuring to come here and put it to your man to man. You know
- 17:17what I mean, I know what I'm beginning to think. You mean.
- 17:19I figured, when you're seeing my position, you'd want to do the square
- 17:22thing like anybody on the right side of defense wood with me. Neighbor,
- 17:26you better drop that neighbor business. I've moved Dolla. The thing stacks up
- 17:30like this now. I already had my claim stake there before you even got
- 17:34in. Tom. I got a lot of money invested in that dame.
- 17:38Parents so help. I've been taking her around places, you know, feeding
- 17:41buying a one thing and another. But I was even going to kick through
- 17:47for a twenty grand hunk of ice for it. She and I had that
- 17:49fight last week. You want that dame's got high flut night. What are
- 17:53you talking about? I just put it to a cold techie. I told
- 17:57her she had a quit Jenny flipping around with all the other fellas well.
- 18:00I just wasn't gonna have nothing more to do with it. Well, that
- 18:03made a madge understand. She lit into me and you already hear that damn
- 18:07talk when she's mad. She when was this fight? Was it before the
- 18:11diamonds were sent here? Sure? Joy, I said, if that's the
- 18:15way she was gonna act, she could forget about them diamonds. I ain't
- 18:19seen a sense of talk to her, but I just can't. I just
- 18:22can't seem to get her off my mind. I looked Lau was in her
- 18:26apartment there for two hours and forty minutes tonight, and I don't like it.
- 18:30It bothers me strictly business Barrett, and I gotta get going. I'll
- 18:33wait a minute, Wait a minute, coology, wait a minute. We
- 18:36still got something to settle here. Like I told you, I got got
- 18:38all Marrit, get out. You better hold your horse, and said,
- 18:42I don't know if you know the name C. K. Barrett, if
- 18:45that means anything to you, But I got influenced back then in the United
- 18:48States. So it's the hard way, Hull. If you just work for
- 18:51that company of yours, you're nothing but an employee. And if you think
- 18:55you can talk to me like a kind of somebody's fine, it's then' here.
- 18:57No still a sucker for a left Hello room service. This is Johnny
- 19:07Dale. Some drunk just wanted in here and passed out. Would you send
- 19:11up a couple of boys to drag it out in the hall? Expense account
- 19:21item ten five dollars and thirty cents a tip to the bellboys and taxi fare
- 19:25to the casbar. The taxi dropped me off at the end of the causeway,
- 19:33and from there on I walked. It was late, well after midnight,
- 19:37but the narrow, crooked alleys were teeming with light, some of it
- 19:41out in the open, some of an undercover. Small groups of people met
- 19:45together here and there along the cobbled streets. Men of two dozen tongues and
- 19:48dialects, and women too, slipped silently in and out of the dark doorways,
- 19:52crouched over tables, and the dim lit cafes and coffee houses. Groups
- 19:56usually fell silent when I passed, and stayed with hostile curiosity. The kasbomb
- 20:02backwash of North Africa little known, seldom bothered, and scarcely policed, and
- 20:07for an outsider, especially at nights, more dangerous than dynamite. The address
- 20:15Optial had given me turned out to be a coffee house, but it could
- 20:18still be legitimate, and there was only one way to find out what you
- 20:27are. I want to see Chatta, but for private reasons, shat does
- 20:36he? Where can I find it? Tick? Sheets? Table, little
- 20:40corner? Maybe should call? I took the seat and ordered coffee and waited.
- 20:47I wrinkled old arabs, squatted on a rug in the middle of the
- 20:48room and played strange, weird melodies. Gradually the other patrons went back to
- 20:53their conversations, ignoring me completely, in fact, pointedly, twenty minutes past.
- 21:00The girl didn't show. You will, of course not deject Missieu,
- 21:07if I take the liberty of joining you. No, Sam may see.
- 21:15So you wish to see chat now? That's right? Do you know her?
- 21:19Weep? I know her very well. I want to find her.
- 21:22But silly Missieu, I always know where to find her. He's my woman.
- 21:29Oh so you're the man I call Bobbo. We miss you, the
- 21:32man who poisoned the diamond Currier. Oh, Missie, It is true that
- 21:37I gave him some wine, a little, not much, But I think
- 21:41perhaps it was a bad vintage. Yes, most unfortunately it was for him.
- 21:47Well, perhaps it was for the best. Life is so uncertain,
- 21:52but I do not wish to think of such unpleasantness. Instead, let us
- 21:56talk about diamonds. Let's talk about killing or attempt at killing. There's child
- 22:03of the one who turned on the gas and the cardass's apartment. Who is
- 22:07possible that she did that on whose orders he pushed? Nothing personal with you.
- 22:11I didn't even know that you were going to beat there. I see,
- 22:15And you really meant the diamonds miss you. That's enough of this foolish
- 22:18talk of shilling. All right, all right? What about the diamonds you
- 22:23will send you by the company that has insured them? That not hell,
- 22:27that's right, and this company will like very much to recover these times.
- 22:32That's why I'm here. Yeah, Now, I'm told that these companies sometimes
- 22:37give larger rewards. Agree to an arrangement of the sort. Make a deal,
- 22:41you man, But no questions? Ask exactly? Now? Is this
- 22:45thing true with you? Is it possible that you do you have the diamonds?
- 22:49Bobbo? Well, let us say that I'm able to direct you to
- 22:53their location. You could almost call that a confession. What does it matter
- 22:59so long as we are in the cast for Oh yeah, sure, I
- 23:00imagine you have been spotted all over the place at least thirty right, in
- 23:04this wound. I am in no danger here. Tell me something. You
- 23:10didn't pull off this job by yourself? Who else was in on it?
- 23:12I only wish to talk about the diamonds. Well can become to an arrangement,
- 23:19Bobo. I don't make deals with murderers. It is better that you
- 23:25do not use such words, miss Year. It's true, though, isn't
- 23:26it. That is not the question. It is only that I was in
- 23:30the insulting Wait, Bobo did younge for the police to come himish you?
- 23:40I'm a surprised as you are. Bobo considered this matter of the deal.
- 23:44We would talk more at some other time. In the patrons rushed for the
- 23:49doors, and in one minute flat, the coffee house was empty. Even
- 23:52the owner was gone. I was the only one left. Three minutes later,
- 23:56the inspector, with a flying squad of twenty men came bursting into the
- 23:59street. Well, monsieur, I am happy to find you, a silly
- 24:04Why don't you get lost somewhere? Were you? I think it's most fortunate
- 24:07that we arriving, die Ah sure in time to follow up the only lead
- 24:11I had in this case. Who lose their suspect? He's bitted into lose
- 24:14one's life, monsieur, look, Inspector. I was holding a gun in
- 24:17my pocket, covering bubble from the second he sat down at the table,
- 24:19Monsieur, already men or not. If it had come to a show down,
- 24:22he couldn't have done a thing because he'd have been the first one to
- 24:25get it. And he's wanted enough to have known that. But he thought,
- 24:26Zey, based an inspector, you have done it again, you ghosts.
- 24:30But I was only thinking, what is your having next? The shooting
- 24:37was somewhere outside, but it hadn't been the police. All of the inspectors
- 24:41men were inside the coffee house. He gave them mortus quickly and they found
- 24:44out to search the area. The streets were empty, now dark and silent,
- 24:48not a soul in sight. We split up into pairs. I worked
- 24:51with Inspector Marcuts for a while and left him and searched alone along the narrow
- 24:53side passes. That's where I found he'd been shot three times in the back
- 25:00and he was dying. Shit. Yeah, Bobbo, you you can't forget
- 25:04that deal. I think, Yeah, it's a little too late for deals
- 25:08now. Who was in on it with you? Bobo? Look? You've
- 25:14got nothing to lose by talking. You know that, don't you? He
- 25:17shit, my aunt? Who shoot? As you see this? Gosh?
- 25:21Who shot you? A dragon? Missieur, twelve feet with fiery eyes?
- 25:26All right, bobo, all right, but just tell me that's just one
- 25:29thing. Are you the man who attacked the property agent at the airport?
- 25:32The man who slug Andre Jordin, sweet messie? I do it very good.
- 25:38No, almost kill him, he's too bad. I did. A
- 25:49minute or two later, Inspector Marcus came up and we stood there looking down
- 25:52up the dead man lying on the stones of the alley. He was a
- 25:56short man, stockily built, with wide shoulders and a deep chest. It
- 26:00was the body of a man of action for accomplishments, but he chosen to
- 26:04be a smuggler, dope peddler, thief and killer. And now he had
- 26:08become the victim of another killer. Did he say anything, monsieur? Was
- 26:15he able to talk? Yeah? Enough? Eh? What did it you
- 26:21mean, monsieur? Do you know who's guilty of these an? That's right,
- 26:22Inspector. I know the whole story, now, the whole filthy,
- 26:29rotten story. There will be the final intriguing episode in our story of the
- 26:48local Diamonds matter Tomorrow Tomorrow night. The odds are set, the last chip
- 26:53is down. It's the last spin of the wheel, and death is the
- 26:56croupier. Join us once you Yours Truly, Johnny Dull. Yours Truly Johnny
- 27:17Duller, starring Bob Bailey, is transcribed in Hollywood, written by Les Crutchfield.
- 27:21It is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Be sure to join us
- 27:26tomorrow night at same time and station for the next exciting episode of Yours Truly
- 27:30Johnny Duller. Roy Rowan speaking welcome back well Captain Sam Sabaya. Oops,
- 28:37that's not the character Ginavello's playing here. Well, the French police inspecer made
- 28:44a pretty big or questionable mood. I couldn't imagine Bobo bringing Johnny to any
- 28:55harm while he had the opportunity to cash in. But they know I will
- 29:00leave you with a great cliffhanger. What is it that Johnny has discovered I
- 29:07not listen to this one time before and I honestly don't remember. And I'll
- 29:11be curious to see if he gets it right, because he's being kind of
- 29:15wrong or apparently wrong twice before with the suspicion of the custom agent and in
- 29:22the Countess, because we've got a pretty reasonable explanation for that. So we're
- 29:29going to find out on Friday what Johnny knows and if he has the solution
- 29:37to the Lorco diamond matter. Well, now we turn to listener comments and
- 29:41feedback. Beverly comments over on Facebook. I'm loving the five part Johnny Dowler
- 29:47episodes. Down on them from my iTunes and create a playlist. We're a
- 29:49week's worth so I can listen to them altogether. I rarely listen to the
- 29:55radio anymore. Keep up the great work, Adam. And also receiving an
- 30:00email along the same lines from Joan, she emails Mark asked me to have
- 30:08all Johnny Doller episodes one through five run in three consecutive days so it could
- 30:14listen to all together. Well, it doesn't. She says that she was
- 30:18able to do this, that she just waits until the five parts were downloaded
- 30:25from iTunes, and I listened to the whole show at once. I listened
- 30:27to the other shows while I was waiting. She also adds, as you
- 30:32know, since Dragnet has gone for a while, I really find I find
- 30:36I really liked the lineup as it's similar to dragnet, and I find it
- 30:38a very enjoyable show. Keep up the great work at them. Without you
- 30:42would not have these great shows or have your wonderful knowledge of them to listen
- 30:45to and teach us every day. Well, thank you so so much,
- 30:48Joan, and I hope you know and I appreciate both of those comments because
- 30:57it does bring home I hope the point that listeners you got some flexibility with
- 31:03how you manage and listen to the show doesn't have to be in the order
- 31:08I upload them if you don't want it to be. Brian says love Johnny
- 31:15Dollar, I've always wondered about the filler music on the shows. Do you
- 31:18know why early radio shows like Sherlock Holmes and others had that horrible organ music,
- 31:23which was considered classy back then. Johnny Dollars seems to have much better
- 31:29music. Well, you answered the question right there. Now. For my
- 31:33part, I don't think all organ music is horrible. It's definitely a little
- 31:40different, and it's an instrument that was a lot more popular back then than
- 31:45it is today. In fact, if you can play the organ, because
- 31:52there's a lot of churches that traditionally use the organ in their worship, but
- 31:59organs or and rare supply, so there are actually people who go from church
- 32:04to church making money playing the organ because the meat that instrument has declined so
- 32:10much in popularity, so it was more popular back then. I think another
- 32:15reason and Johnny Dollar if you think back to the if you think back to
- 32:22the John Lunday's, Johnny Dollar also had organ music. Another big motivator is
- 32:30that it was less expensive than an orchestral arrangement. You have one guy playing
- 32:37an organ or you have an orchestra, which is less expensive to pay for.
- 32:43I will admit that there are some organ themes that aren't is pleasant to
- 32:49listen to. Boston Blackie's kind of stands out as an example. But now
- 32:54for my own part, I could listen to the theme to Frank Race all
- 32:59day long. In the bridge is just so well played and dramatic and stirring
- 33:05and powerful. So but I know it is not as popular these days.
- 33:10So I appreciate your comment and a good question. Also, since I'm talking
- 33:17about music, someone emailed to say that they did not understand what I said
- 33:27when I name the composer of our theme music, that I was notified by
- 33:34Kevin Amount. I'll try it again, Dmitri Shostakovich Shostakovich, And that's s
- 33:45H O S T A k O V I C H. And if I'm
- 33:52still not pronouncing it quite right, if somebody who knows how to pronounce it
- 33:55correctly can call our voicemail to eight nine nine one four seven eight three and
- 34:01say, Adam, I think it's pronounced da da da, then we can
- 34:07have a definitive pronunciation. But I hope I got it closer to correct this
- 34:15time. Patricia comments, I have listened to Adam for about four years now.
- 34:20Love the information he provides about the detectives that we've listened to from other
- 34:24podcasts. He's filled in the gaps rows keep it up. We love it
- 34:29on these long nights in Alaska. Love Nero Wolf and Sherlock Holmes and Johnny
- 34:34Dowler and really all of them. Thank you well, thanks so much,
- 34:37Patricia. I think that they're getting into the long days up in Alaska.
- 34:45Oh. I mentioned on a previous podcast, I'd love to spend a couple
- 34:49of days in Alaska in the summer. I've always been averse to going to
- 34:53bed, and extra sunlight might give me the energy to stay up. But
- 34:59speaking of Sherlock Holmes, that'll be a coming up tomorrow. Join us here
- 35:04on Friday when we wrap up the Lorco diamond matter. In the meanwhile,
