- 0:20Speaker 1: Annette West to our broadcast today. She's the author of
- 0:23Speaker 1: the brand-new book, Purposeful Prosperity, A Woman's Guide to Financial Peace,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and intentional living. We're going to talk to Dr. West,
- 0:30Speaker 1: not only about her platform she's been able to build
- 0:33Speaker 1: from book after book, both for fiction and nonfiction, but
- 0:36Speaker 1: also what inspired the new book and what she hopes
- 0:38Speaker 1: especially women are able to take away from it about
- 0:40Speaker 1: what it means to live a purposeful life. If you
- 0:44Speaker 1: guys are not staying connected with Annette, we'll let you
- 0:46Speaker 1: all know how to be able to find her and
- 0:48Speaker 1: all the great things that she's doing. But Annette, welcome
- 0:50Speaker 1: back to the broadcast.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Hey, Simon. Good to be connected again. Thank you.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Look, glad to be able to speak with you, Annette.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So it's great to be able to talk about different
- 0:59Speaker 1: aspects of this book. As I mentioned, Purposeful Prosperity is
- 1:02Speaker 1: the newest book. What has it been like for you, Annette,
- 1:05Speaker 1: to not only be able to share the message of
- 1:07Speaker 1: the book, but also to see the way that people
- 1:10Speaker 1: are resonating with that message?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, before we even put it out, just the trainings
- 1:18Speaker 2: and and information that I have been sharing with people,
- 1:22Speaker 2: not directly from the book, but relative to the book
- 1:25Speaker 2: has been, I mean, it has been dynamic. People are
- 1:29Speaker 2: asking for more. So that's a, that is a great thing.
- 1:33Speaker 2: The four part series that I did the last three
- 1:37Speaker 2: Tuesdays and the last part will be tomorrow has, I mean,
- 1:42Speaker 2: I've gotten really great feedback. A lot of people have
- 1:45Speaker 2: connected from that. A lot of people have joined the
- 1:49Speaker 2: new YouTube channel, Purposeful Prosperity 365. And so, yeah, the
- 1:56Speaker 2: beta readers really enjoyed the book, were able to relate
- 2:02Speaker 2: to some of the characters in the book. And it's
- 2:04Speaker 2: really great when people can say, oh, my gosh, I
- 2:06Speaker 2: see myself in this. And now I have an idea
- 2:10Speaker 2: of how I need to rethink some things.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's the big thing, right? It's one
- 2:16Speaker 1: thing to be able to read something, Annette, but it's
- 2:17Speaker 1: another thing to be able to see not only how
- 2:20Speaker 1: you can use it, but also the value of it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So take your audience back. For those who may just
- 2:26Speaker 1: be discovering you, Annette, I mean, you've written other things,
- 2:29Speaker 1: other books I've had a chance to talk to you about.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Where did the initial idea for purposeful prosperity actually come from?
- 2:37Speaker 2: Believe it or not, Purposeful Prosperity was not even the
- 2:40Speaker 2: name that I was planning on. It just kind of
- 2:42Speaker 2: like dropped in. But as a college professor, as a minister,
- 2:49Speaker 2: business professional, I've been able to integrate all of these things.
- 2:53Speaker 2: It took a while to see how all the pieces
- 2:55Speaker 2: were going to come together. And now they have. And
- 2:59Speaker 2: so I was really working across two different books. One
- 3:01Speaker 2: was on kingdom preneurship. One was on finance. And then
- 3:05Speaker 2: I was like, I don't want to do a standard
- 3:08Speaker 2: academic book. I teach enough of that. I don't want
- 3:11Speaker 2: to do that. I really want something where people can
- 3:14Speaker 2: have conversations around it. And so that was really the
- 3:18Speaker 2: thing about doing this book. It was always going to
- 3:22Speaker 2: be a guide to financial peace, but I'm big on
- 3:26Speaker 2: the word intentional. deciding what you're going to do, committing
- 3:30Speaker 2: to it, follow it through. That's the intentionality. So intentional
- 3:34Speaker 2: had to be a part of the title. And then
- 3:38Speaker 2: that purposeful prosperity, it just like dropped down.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's interesting. I mean, as I mentioned, you
- 3:44Speaker 1: write nonfiction and fiction. Stories are a part of this
- 3:48Speaker 1: new book, Purposeful Prosperity. We're going to actually talk about
- 3:51Speaker 1: Rebecca that you write about in the book as well.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Do you find that I heard, had one guest come
- 3:56Speaker 1: on my show and then one thing that they mentioned
- 3:59Speaker 1: that I thought was really interesting that I think our
- 4:00Speaker 1: audience will appreciate is that, you know, were we talking
- 4:04Speaker 1: about parables, you know, and especially we're looking at Jesus, right?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Jesus using parables to share messages. Is that one of
- 4:12Speaker 1: the things that you've been able to see too, how
- 4:14Speaker 1: you can be able to create these characters that kind
- 4:17Speaker 1: of share the points that you want the reader to
- 4:19Speaker 1: take away from it?
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's important. As a professor, one of
- 4:24Speaker 2: the things I always wanted to do was not just
- 4:27Speaker 2: teach a course, but ensure that my students left away
- 4:30Speaker 2: with some points. They didn't have to remember everything, but
- 4:33Speaker 2: they ought to remember some things And so I think
- 4:36Speaker 2: building that life application where you can actually see the dynamic,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you can actually see, you can visualize the person reading
- 4:46Speaker 2: the story, what they're going through at that moment and
- 4:48Speaker 2: see the process that they're going through. So that makes
- 4:51Speaker 2: it more reasonable in your mind that this is something
- 4:55Speaker 2: that I can possibly rethink or something that I can
- 4:58Speaker 2: possibly do that I can possibly apply to my own life.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So life application is critical, which I consider life application
- 5:06Speaker 2: like the parables in the Bible.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah. And I bring that up because I think, too,
- 5:11Speaker 1: a lot of times, you know, when we talk about prosperity,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, I'm a simple person. You and I talked
- 5:17Speaker 1: about this and that I and my family and people
- 5:20Speaker 1: who are in Mississippi on the radio side know Cyrus
- 5:23Speaker 1: is a simple. I'm not at all fancy. I'm just
- 5:27Speaker 1: really simple. I've never even been someone of those people who,
- 5:30Speaker 1: not that there's anything wrong with big houses and all
- 5:32Speaker 1: of that. Growing up, I never said I wanted to
- 5:35Speaker 1: be in a big house and drive the fancy car.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It was just never my thing. I'm bringing that up, though,
- 5:41Speaker 1: because people sometimes identify their self-worth and their value based
- 5:47Speaker 1: on what they have. What has it been like for
- 5:49Speaker 1: you through this book to show people that those two
- 5:52Speaker 1: things don't necessarily go together?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Well, first of all, I know people who have made
- 5:59Speaker 2: millions and yet they don't have millions.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 2: If you don't know how to apply what you have,
- 6:06Speaker 2: if you don't know how to build what you have,
- 6:09Speaker 2: if you don't understand certain principles, um, you're not going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to be able to retain what you have. We've seen people,
- 6:17Speaker 2: you know, become millionaires and then how is that possible?
- 6:22Speaker 2: But if you don't understand what to do with money, yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 2: then you may wind up not having those resources. And
- 6:29Speaker 2: I want people to understand that purposeful prosperity is not
- 6:33Speaker 2: just about money. Right. intentional life that we live? How
- 6:38Speaker 2: do we take care of our minds? How do we
- 6:40Speaker 2: take care of our bodies? What are we inputting in
- 6:43Speaker 2: our bodies? All of these things, how we engage in relationships,
- 6:47Speaker 2: all of these things apply to our purposeful prosperity. And
- 6:53Speaker 2: the Lord would have us to be purposeful and prosperous
- 6:57Speaker 2: in every area of our life.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And I want to say this, too. One thing I
- 7:03Speaker 1: saw myself in, in your book, and I hadn't even
- 7:05Speaker 1: told you this, Annette, but I'm a person who, I'm
- 7:09Speaker 1: a worker by nature. I grew up watching my mom work,
- 7:12Speaker 1: my dad work, and that was almost their love language.
- 7:16Speaker 1: My dad was not a big I love you person
- 7:18Speaker 1: in words, but he taught so much in the way
- 7:21Speaker 1: he lived and making sure that my brother and I
- 7:24Speaker 1: were provided for. And so I'm a person, even as
- 7:28Speaker 1: I grew up and started working, even started my own business,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I became more of a worker than a boss, right?
- 7:35Speaker 1: I mean, and so I was so into doing the work.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I bring this up because something you actually wrote in
- 7:41Speaker 1: the book, I actually want to read this. I think
- 7:43Speaker 1: this is really interesting. I mentioned Rebecca earlier, and this
- 7:46Speaker 1: is what you write in the book, and that purposeful
- 7:48Speaker 1: living begins when we stop merely reacting to circumstances and
- 7:52Speaker 1: start intensely shaping our future. Rebecca realized she had become
- 7:57Speaker 1: highly skilled at managing responsibilities. What she had not done
- 8:01Speaker 1: was intentionally define what she wanted her feature to represent.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And when I got to that, I marked that in
- 8:07Speaker 1: my Kindle because I've always been a person just to
- 8:10Speaker 1: do the job, never with a thing in mind of
- 8:13Speaker 1: what I wanted. I'm just good at doing the job.
- 8:17Speaker 1: But I realized the importance later of, okay, what is
- 8:20Speaker 1: the goal? What is it I'm trying to do? And
- 8:23Speaker 1: is this getting me closer to that? Talk to us
- 8:26Speaker 1: about this part of the book, Annette, and how you
- 8:30Speaker 1: were able to share not only the importance of being intentional,
- 8:33Speaker 1: but also making sure that we are actually doing something
- 8:37Speaker 1: that gets us closer to where we want to be.
- 8:40Speaker 2: You know, I think the story on Rebecca really is
- 8:43Speaker 2: about recognizing the need for change. And one statement that
- 8:47Speaker 2: I've heard so many people say that it just would,
- 8:50Speaker 2: it just makes me cringe is we've always done it
- 8:53Speaker 2: this way. And just because you've always done it that
- 8:57Speaker 2: way doesn't mean that it's not time to change. Doing
- 9:01Speaker 2: it the same way may make you stagnant if you're
- 9:06Speaker 2: not careful. And like you say, if you don't know
- 9:09Speaker 2: the goals that you can reach for, then you'll be
- 9:11Speaker 2: content to just keep doing the same thing on the
- 9:15Speaker 2: hamster wheel. What does a hamster do? It gets on
- 9:16Speaker 2: the wheel and it just keeps going around, going around,
- 9:19Speaker 2: making you dizzy while you're looking at it. So if
- 9:22Speaker 2: we don't apply ourselves, like Rebecca was 53 when she
- 9:25Speaker 2: started to have this thinking. She's built a successful career.
- 9:29Speaker 2: She's raised her children. She's cared for her aging parents.
- 9:32Speaker 2: She's served in the church. She's managed a household. Many
- 9:36Speaker 2: people would say, oh my God, she's like the virtuous
- 9:39Speaker 2: woman in the Bible. No, she's not like the virtuous
- 9:43Speaker 2: woman in the Bible. And none of us are like
- 9:46Speaker 2: the virtuous woman in the Bible unless you have a
- 9:49Speaker 2: full support team helping you do what needs to be done.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Because the virtuous woman was not doing it by herself.
- 9:55Speaker 2: So let us not be deceived that we can do
- 9:57Speaker 2: all of these things and think that we're going to
- 9:59Speaker 2: be good. at all and make it to the level
- 10:02Speaker 2: that we need to be.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:04Speaker 2: So Rebecca, yeah, Rebecca understanding that, oh, wait a minute,
- 10:09Speaker 2: I've done all of this. Now what about me? What
- 10:13Speaker 2: about my future? Why does everyone... seem to understand what
- 10:19Speaker 2: I don't understand. And I've said it before, we don't
- 10:23Speaker 2: know anything until we get exposed to something or someone
- 10:26Speaker 2: who does know something. Then we can glean. So her
- 10:31Speaker 2: recognizing and listening in to other people talking and having
- 10:36Speaker 2: to do some self-talk of not being afraid to speak up,
- 10:40Speaker 2: not being afraid to ask questions, not feeling like, oh,
- 10:44Speaker 2: I have a doctorate degree, so if I ask this
- 10:46Speaker 2: person for help, I must be dumb. I must be slow. No,
- 10:50Speaker 2: you just need to learn something more. That's all. Listen,
- 10:54Speaker 2: I came to Cyrus because I wanted to gain some
- 10:57Speaker 2: more exposure on certain things, the marketing side of the house.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I understand marketing principles, people. I'm taught marketing. But teaching
- 11:05Speaker 2: marketing and doing marketing is not the same thing.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, such a great point. That leads us to Eleanor, too, Annette,
- 11:13Speaker 1: the point you just made. Because one of the things
- 11:16Speaker 1: that you said about Eleanor that I made a note of, too,
- 11:19Speaker 1: was this, is that your future may look different from
- 11:22Speaker 1: your past, but different does not mean less meaningful. And
- 11:26Speaker 1: I thought that was so interesting because a lot of
- 11:28Speaker 1: times we do think, and even you went on to say,
- 11:31Speaker 1: do not assume that because one season is ending, your
- 11:33Speaker 1: usefulness is ending with it. So many times we become
- 11:36Speaker 1: so attached to a title, right, to a job or
- 11:40Speaker 1: to a certain stature in life. And then when something happens,
- 11:44Speaker 1: maybe it's the loss of a spouse. Maybe it's, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: a shifting situation in our jobs. We sometimes forget that
- 11:51Speaker 1: our value is still there. How has it helped you, Annette,
- 11:55Speaker 1: in your work to remember that those two are not
- 11:58Speaker 1: necessarily connected?
- 11:59Speaker 2: First of all, I really... Remind myself in dealing with people,
- 12:05Speaker 2: connecting with people, projects and everything. There are seasons for everything.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Sometimes there's a long haul season and sometimes seasons are shorter.
- 12:15Speaker 2: So understanding as we are moving through life and we're
- 12:18Speaker 2: trying to do things that don't try to make something
- 12:22Speaker 2: maintained when that season is done, because I believe that
- 12:26Speaker 2: when we allow the season to end the way it's
- 12:28Speaker 2: supposed to, the new season will come and it will
- 12:32Speaker 2: birth and bring forth greater things through us. So us
- 12:35Speaker 2: understanding that we need to, I want to encourage people,
- 12:40Speaker 2: like if you think you're getting ready to retire in
- 12:42Speaker 2: the next two or three years, Hopefully you're thinking about
- 12:45Speaker 2: it even before then. But start thinking about something that
- 12:48Speaker 2: you would want to do when you retire from that
- 12:51Speaker 2: job so that you're not left homebound wondering, what am
- 12:57Speaker 2: I going to do? The people that I was engaged
- 12:59Speaker 2: with at work, those were my friends. Those were just
- 13:02Speaker 2: people that you work with. You got to have something
- 13:04Speaker 2: outside of that. You got to have something more than that.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And it doesn't have to be just in the church building.
- 13:11Speaker 2: You need to be connected to people who are doing
- 13:14Speaker 2: things who can challenge you. I had a friend when
- 13:18Speaker 2: I used to teach at the high school. She said,
- 13:21Speaker 2: she said, Doc, I'm hanging around with you because I
- 13:25Speaker 2: need to hang around with people that know more than
- 13:27Speaker 2: I know. I need to hang around with people who
- 13:29Speaker 2: are doing more than I'm doing or I will be
- 13:32Speaker 2: stagnant and I will become content. So, yeah, we're going
- 13:36Speaker 2: to have seasons. And look towards the next season. Don't
- 13:40Speaker 2: see the season that's ending as, oh, my gosh, it's just, oh,
- 13:43Speaker 2: my God, what am I going to do? Start thinking
- 13:45Speaker 2: about it early.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Right. For yourself, I think, again, as you were just
- 13:51Speaker 1: giving in that example, I think one of the things
- 13:53Speaker 1: that we don't sometimes think about is that You know,
- 13:58Speaker 1: there's a difference in living, and as your subtitle of
- 14:01Speaker 1: the book alludes to, intentional living. Is that something that
- 14:06Speaker 1: you've always appreciated? Is that something you've gotten to better
- 14:09Speaker 1: understand what it means to live intentionally?
- 14:14Speaker 2: I have, so I probably have been stuck on this
- 14:18Speaker 2: word for about the last 15 or 20 years.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Oh, wow, okay.
- 14:22Speaker 2: People say, what's your word for the year? My word
- 14:24Speaker 2: is always the same. It's the same 365 days of
- 14:27Speaker 2: the year. It's intentional. So when people are talking with me, oh,
- 14:31Speaker 2: what's my word? They say intentional. So they know me.
- 14:35Speaker 2: They know me for the word intentional. They know me.
- 14:38Speaker 2: They know at the end of my, when I'm saying
- 14:40Speaker 2: something that I'm going to say, you know, you're blessed
- 14:43Speaker 2: to be a blessing. And then I'm going to say
- 14:45Speaker 2: something else, you know, be the visible manifestation. of Christ.
- 14:50Speaker 2: There are certain things that I say that builds me
- 14:54Speaker 2: up and reminds me of my purpose every day. So
- 14:57Speaker 2: it is important for me to speak those words to
- 15:00Speaker 2: myself as reminders. But I talk about the story about
- 15:04Speaker 2: the shoes, and I've done quite a few workshops on
- 15:07Speaker 2: the shoes and built a SWOT analysis into it, a
- 15:11Speaker 2: personal SWOT analysis. But understanding where I am or where
- 15:15Speaker 2: I was and deciding what I wanted for my future
- 15:20Speaker 2: meant that I had to make some changes in my dynamic.
- 15:23Speaker 2: So that meant thinking about just because I had the
- 15:27Speaker 2: money to spend, did it mean I should spend it?
- 15:30Speaker 2: Just because I could purchase something that was more expensive,
- 15:33Speaker 2: if something less expensive did the same job, can I
- 15:36Speaker 2: be content with it? So those were some of the
- 15:40Speaker 2: things that I would speak to myself. And so those
- 15:45Speaker 2: things in the last 20, 25 years have really changed
- 15:49Speaker 2: my thinking, my dynamics, helped me build more. My family
- 15:55Speaker 2: tells me I have always been administratively gifted And I've
- 15:59Speaker 2: always been a voice letting people know what I wanted
- 16:03Speaker 2: to do. Some things I didn't even remember that I
- 16:05Speaker 2: spoke to people when I was growing up. I didn't remember,
- 16:09Speaker 2: but people remember. And so those have been great reminders
- 16:12Speaker 2: to me. And it's just wonderful to see me walking
- 16:16Speaker 2: in the things that I said when I was younger
- 16:21Speaker 2: and applying myself to it. So this word intentional and
- 16:24Speaker 2: this You know, when we are intentional, we can build
- 16:28Speaker 2: the financial piece that we need. And see, finances are
- 16:32Speaker 2: needed for us to do everything we do. Like people say,
- 16:35Speaker 2: money is bad. It's not. Money is not bad. Money
- 16:37Speaker 2: is neutral. It's what we do with money. It's how
- 16:40Speaker 2: we utilize money. It's where we put money that determines
- 16:43Speaker 2: whether it builds up or not. But money in itself
- 16:46Speaker 2: is just, that's all it is. You know, a green
- 16:49Speaker 2: dollar is a green dollar.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Right. And I think, too, it is one of those
- 16:54Speaker 1: things that so much goes to mindset, Annette, in which
- 16:59Speaker 1: you bring up even with Patricia. That's the final example
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm going to be sharing here. But also I think
- 17:05Speaker 1: in our lives of trying to get all of our
- 17:08Speaker 1: ducks in a row, trying to get everything lined up
- 17:11Speaker 1: and waiting on that perfect time. And I think one
- 17:14Speaker 1: thing that we've all come to realize is Well, what
- 17:17Speaker 1: we should know is that nothing will ever be all perfect.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I think so many times that we think, oh, you know,
- 17:24Speaker 1: that may be true for other people, but I'm going
- 17:27Speaker 1: to be able to get all of these things together.
- 17:29Speaker 1: You write in the book, Patricia slowly learned to embrace
- 17:33Speaker 1: good moments without apologizing for them. She celebrated victories, enjoyed blessings,
- 17:38Speaker 1: laughed freely, and received peace without guilt. And then you
- 17:41Speaker 1: write this, many women postpone joy until every financial concern
- 17:45Speaker 1: is resolved. every relationship is healthy, every responsibility is completed,
- 17:50Speaker 1: and every uncertainty has disappeared. And then you say that
- 17:53Speaker 1: day rarely comes. Life almost always contains both responsibility and beauty,
- 18:00Speaker 1: challenge and blessing, work and celebration. What has that been
- 18:04Speaker 1: like for you to not only to come to better
- 18:07Speaker 1: appreciate life, that coexistence that you write about, Annette, but
- 18:12Speaker 1: also getting others to see that, too, that, you know,
- 18:14Speaker 1: there's no such thing as waiting on the perfect time.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It really is about being able to move in the
- 18:19Speaker 1: moment that's in front of you.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah. If we wait for the perfect time, you know,
- 18:25Speaker 2: you would never accomplish anything, okay?
- 18:27Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:28Speaker 2: You know, one thing I want to say about women,
- 18:32Speaker 2: women's makeup overall, we are nurturers. So we're always wanting
- 18:39Speaker 2: to see the best in everybody else. We're always wanting
- 18:42Speaker 2: to push everybody else towards their best. We're always wanting
- 18:45Speaker 2: to build other people up to their best. And we
- 18:48Speaker 2: have to learn how to apply those things to ourselves
- 18:51Speaker 2: and learn how to nurture ourselves and learn how to
- 18:54Speaker 2: do some self-care for ourselves and learn how to say
- 18:58Speaker 2: no to some things that will give us the strength
- 19:02Speaker 2: and the tenacity to keep going on for us instead
- 19:07Speaker 2: of for other people all the time. So other people
- 19:09Speaker 2: have a place, but we also need to zone in
- 19:12Speaker 2: and focus on ourselves. And I think the more we
- 19:14Speaker 2: are able to build the things that we need for
- 19:17Speaker 2: our future, the better prepared we are to deal with
- 19:23Speaker 2: our future and the better off people that will be
- 19:27Speaker 2: connected to us will be able to relate to our future.
- 19:32Speaker 2: future that is already predestined for us. We just have
- 19:35Speaker 2: to align ourselves up with the things that the Lord
- 19:38Speaker 2: would have for us and do the work because the
- 19:41Speaker 2: work isn't going to do itself. So we have to
- 19:43Speaker 2: decide what it is we want, like going back to Rebecca.
- 19:46Speaker 2: What is it that we want? We got to talk
- 19:49Speaker 2: to our about that thing. We got to start writing
- 19:52Speaker 2: some things down. And I want to say to all
- 19:54Speaker 2: of us, one of the best things that we can
- 19:58Speaker 2: do for those that we claim we love is to
- 20:01Speaker 2: prepare for our leaving this earth. This is one of
- 20:07Speaker 2: the best things you can do. And why do I
- 20:09Speaker 2: say that? Because if people are grieving, why should they
- 20:13Speaker 2: have to be trying to figure out where your stuff is?
- 20:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:18Speaker 2: So put everything together in this process, in these women's stories.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Get it together. Have it set aside where somebody knows
- 20:27Speaker 2: where it is and they can access it. And while
- 20:30Speaker 2: people are grieving, they ain't got to be stressing out
- 20:32Speaker 2: about all of this other stuff. And that's all a
- 20:35Speaker 2: part of this intentional living because you may be living
- 20:40Speaker 2: a long life, but you may not live it as
- 20:44Speaker 2: healthy as you want. And you would want things in
- 20:47Speaker 2: place that you could be taken care of to the
- 20:49Speaker 2: best that you want. But if you don't have those
- 20:52Speaker 2: things in place, then that's not going to happen. So
- 20:55Speaker 2: there are some things that we really need. And it's
- 20:57Speaker 2: not just women. We all need to do this. I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 2: I've talked to so many people who have said, I
- 21:02Speaker 2: don't want to talk about dying. Well, you're going to die, okay?
- 21:05Speaker 2: There's no getting away from that. We don't know when.
- 21:10Speaker 2: We all hope that we live a long life, but
- 21:12Speaker 2: what are we preparing for for that long life? If
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm 65 today and I might live to be 90
- 21:19Speaker 2: or 100, that's pretty normal for many people these days.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Will I be financially and intentionally prepared for the living
- 21:29Speaker 2: that I desire from here to there? That's critical to
- 21:35Speaker 2: think about. Are we aligned so that what we need
- 21:40Speaker 2: is in place for 25 or 35 years down the line?
- 21:45Speaker 1: That's why I want to actually end this conversation, Annette,
- 21:49Speaker 1: with the way you begin it and the dedication of
- 21:51Speaker 1: the book. You say this, and I think this is
- 21:55Speaker 1: an important thing for all of us to think about. Again,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you wrote this book, of course, with women in mind,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but it's a great principle to for all of us
- 22:03Speaker 1: to be able to keep in mind. You say this
- 22:05Speaker 1: in the book, may this journey remind you that your
- 22:07Speaker 1: life still holds extraordinary possibilities. Your experiences have value. Your
- 22:12Speaker 1: voice carries wisdom. Your dreams still matter. And your future
- 22:16Speaker 1: remains filled with hope. Regardless of where the reader may
- 22:20Speaker 1: find themselves, what do you hope Purposeful Prosperity does for them?
- 22:25Speaker 1: And not only to reignite that fire that they had
- 22:29Speaker 1: for living in life, but also pursuing whatever that purposeful
- 22:33Speaker 1: and intentional life is for them?
- 22:37Speaker 2: Thank you. That's a great question. You know, purposeful prosperity
- 22:41Speaker 2: is really about empowering. It's about empowering those who are
- 22:45Speaker 2: going to read the book, those who are going to
- 22:47Speaker 2: come to workshops and different things that I will have,
- 22:50Speaker 2: to move beyond just looking at finances and move beyond
- 22:56Speaker 2: financial fear and embrace embrace the movement, embrace stewardship, embrace
- 23:02Speaker 2: being intentional, and look towards preparing the future that God
- 23:07Speaker 2: has already placed before them. And so that's it in
- 23:12Speaker 2: a nutshell. Let's move forward with a broader focus in
- 23:18Speaker 2: that we are going to build the And this is
- 23:22Speaker 2: going to be a rest of our life journey. It's
- 23:25Speaker 2: not going to be like, oh, I got the book
- 23:27Speaker 2: this month and that's it. I read it and I
- 23:28Speaker 2: put it down. No, this is going to be a journey.
- 23:33Speaker 2: And I would just remind everybody, you might retire from
- 23:35Speaker 2: a career, but you never retire from your purpose. Remember that.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Preparation is wisdom.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Such a great reminder. And you mentioned something key we
- 23:47Speaker 1: have to talk about here, Annette, that this book is
- 23:51Speaker 1: not the end. This book is only a part of
- 23:54Speaker 1: what you're building. Talk to us about what you're hoping
- 23:57Speaker 1: to do with this platform with Purposeful Prosperity and the
- 24:00Speaker 1: different ways you hope to be able to reach your audience, including,
- 24:02Speaker 1: as you just mentioned, workshops and other ways.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, as a professor, I've taught, I've built courses for
- 24:10Speaker 2: many universities. So I definitely would like to build a
- 24:14Speaker 2: course around this. Definitely workshops. I hope to have some
- 24:17Speaker 2: conferences on many of the topics that I have. Integrated
- 24:23Speaker 2: also with my publishing because there's so many people who
- 24:26Speaker 2: already have content that they're being, you know, they're hearing
- 24:31Speaker 2: that they need to do something with it. And, you know,
- 24:34Speaker 2: my goal is to help them to pull those thoughts
- 24:37Speaker 2: out of their mind and pull those old pieces of
- 24:39Speaker 2: paper out and let's get something started. So, yeah, doing more,
- 24:47Speaker 2: building more. Building up my YouTube channel, that's PurposefulProsperity365. Definitely
- 24:55Speaker 2: go and subscribe to my YouTube channel. If you have
- 24:58Speaker 2: questions for me, reach out to me. You can reach
- 25:02Speaker 2: out to me at JetNate Publishing. My publishing is JetNate,
- 25:05Speaker 2: J-A-T-N-E publishing.org. And you can also reach me at JetNate
- 25:09Speaker 2: Publishing at gmail.com. But I want people to understand that
- 25:16Speaker 2: I'm putting my coaching hat back on and I'm coaching
- 25:19Speaker 2: people through life, through whatever it is. I personalize my
- 25:25Speaker 2: coaching to meet the needs of each individual. Just like
- 25:29Speaker 2: the stories in the book, each person has varied needs.
- 25:35Speaker 2: And I have the tools, so why not share the
- 25:37Speaker 2: tools that I have?
- 25:38Speaker 1: I think that is the big thing here, Annette, and
- 25:40Speaker 1: it's a great reminder for our audience, again, how one
- 25:43Speaker 1: thing can lead to another thing. And I love the
- 25:45Speaker 1: fact that you're using this book as that foundation to
- 25:48Speaker 1: be able to do just that, to be able to
- 25:49Speaker 1: build on it and be able to spread the message
- 25:51Speaker 1: that and other ways. Again, everyone, Dr. Annette West has
- 25:54Speaker 1: been our guest. Her new book is Purposeful Prosperity, A
- 25:58Speaker 1: Woman's Guide to Financial Peace and Intentional Living. It's available
