  unknown: Can you take it?
• 1:11
SPEAKER_01: There is nothing I can do for you to be a father.
• 1:16
  SPEAKER_01: It's more than enough.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_01: I don't really care if we are the stuck to stare.
• 1:22
SPEAKER_01: As long as we're together, like birds up there.
• 1:32
  SPEAKER_01: That's a beautiful night.
• 1:35
SPEAKER_01: I feel chatted some alive.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_01: Can we dance one more time?
• 1:46
  SPEAKER_01: We can dance on.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to the Overclock Remix Podcast.
• 2:09
SPEAKER_00: This is episode number 20, the Big 2-0, which is about the number of minutes it takes me to play through Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_00: My name is Zach, and I think the Sega 32X deserve more of a chance than it got.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_00: The hardware is really quite something closer in spirit to a PC than anything else.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: In Fabian Sanglard's book, Game Engine Black Book of Doom, he covers not just how the original PC Doom works under the hood, but also goes into details on a lot of the ports.
• 2:42
SPEAKER_00: In software's consensus on the 32X is that it was a joy to program for compared to other consoles on the market at the time.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_00: No weird custom graphics chips, just two really fast processors and a big frame buffer.
• 3:00
SPEAKER_00: If you have at all any interest in retro games or zone programming, I highly recommend the book.
• 3:06
SPEAKER_00: But that was a heck of a tangent.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_00: Our opening track was Smooth as Honey by Sir Jordanius from Mega Man 9.
• 4:49
SPEAKER_00: But the big news this last month has been how increasingly apparent it is that Sony is not a good steward of their ecosystem.
• 5:00
SPEAKER_00: As I write this, news just broke that Sony is going to discontinue manufacturing physical games in 2028.
• 5:09
SPEAKER_00: Which, among other things, signals that the PlayStation Rick, whatever form it takes, is going to be digital only.
• 5:18
SPEAKER_00: And of course, this is right on the heels of Sony enlisting dozens of movies from its quote-unquote storefront, making them unwatchable to all the people who quote unquote purchase them.
• 5:33
SPEAKER_00: Uh really tells you what Sony is going to do with games.
• 5:38
SPEAKER_00: There's no denying that digital games are more convenient than physical games, but physical games have a lot of advantages, mostly in the realm of consumer rights.
• 5:49
SPEAKER_00: It's nice to be able to loan a game to a friend or sell it on eBay.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_00: Or my favorite money-saving trick.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_00: Check it out of the library.
• 5:59
SPEAKER_00: Move on to some new remakes.
• 23:27
SPEAKER_00: Our first track in that block was Magnet Man Sonata by McVaff from Mega Man 3, which is something of a companion piece to a very early OCR track, Cut Man Sonata.
• 23:41
SPEAKER_00: It's also a touching tribute that McVaffa wrote for his dad as part of his Reflections project.
• 23:48
SPEAKER_00: After that we had Melange Brew by Peach from Banjo Kazooie.
• 23:54
SPEAKER_00: And this one does something interesting that we don't hear very often.
• 23:58
SPEAKER_00: Alright, so in Banjo Kazooie, there is a Hub World, uh Grantilda's Lair, that the same melody, the melody you hear in this remix, plays throughout the entire hub world, but it changes in style and in instrumentation as you get closer to different levels within the hub world.
• 24:20
SPEAKER_00: So this track not only does that, which is why you're hearing the same melody over and over again in different styles, but it also incorporates the transition sound effect from going from one area to another.
• 24:35
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know that I've ever heard that in a remix.
• 24:37
  SPEAKER_00: It's pretty cool.
• 24:39
SPEAKER_00: Another interesting thing is it doesn't keep to exactly the same stylistic inventions as the original game.
• 24:45
SPEAKER_00: The bubble gloop swamp section, for example, is definitely a lot more Louisiana-inspired compared to the original.
• 24:55
SPEAKER_00: Our last track in that block was Beasts All Over the Shop by Fishy from Final Fantasy IX.
• 25:01
SPEAKER_00: Now, name a more iconic duo.
• 25:05
SPEAKER_00: Nobuo Umatsu and Broad Rock.
• 25:08
SPEAKER_00: Or just 90s JRPGs and Broad Rock in general, honestly.
• 25:12
SPEAKER_00: But in this case, Fishy is rocking out to some Final Fantasy IX tracks.
• 25:17
SPEAKER_00: Not my favorite Final Fantasy.
• 25:20
SPEAKER_00: Six still holds the ground.
• 25:21
SPEAKER_00: But maybe my favorite Final Fantasy soundtrack.
• 25:24
SPEAKER_00: And Fishy's version is complete with my wonder love.
• 25:30
SPEAKER_00: I should also mention that this is from the Pixel Mixer's Final Fantasy IX album Beyond the Mist.
• 25:37
SPEAKER_00: If you like this track, go check out the whole album.
• 37:25
SPEAKER_00: Western feeling as in the cattle.
• 37:35
SPEAKER_00: This initial impression makes sense because the original is a Darren Court track, and that sounds fun.
• 37:42
SPEAKER_00: And I love the banjo.
• 37:45
SPEAKER_00: We need more banjo on overclocking mix, but I may just be saying that because I came from Alan.
• 37:51
SPEAKER_00: Our final track in that block was Geostellar, Wave Rider by Tinaeus222 from Mega Man Star Force Pegasus.
• 38:00
SPEAKER_00: One of these days, I need to sit down with a music theory person and ask when you hear a piece of music and think, this sounds like video game music.
• 38:10
  SPEAKER_00: Why is that?
• 38:11
SPEAKER_00: I don't have the vocabulary for it.
• 38:13
SPEAKER_00: This just sounds like video game music in the best possible way.
• 38:18
SPEAKER_00: It's unpretentious, just something catchy I could imagine in the background of the game.
• 38:23
SPEAKER_00: And of course the source material is game music, but video game music doesn't always sound like video game music, you know?
• 38:30
SPEAKER_00: Say something like The Last of Us, which definitely sounds like film music.
• 38:36
SPEAKER_00: Anyway, we've got one more block to go.
• 38:38
  SPEAKER_00: Let's get to it.
• 47:34
SPEAKER_00: Short block this time, that was Fighting Storms in Titania by Rotten Eggplant and Pixel Seth from Star Fox.
• 47:43
SPEAKER_00: This is another double-wing damage mix post and a comeback for Rotten Eggplant, who has been missing in action since their day remix eight years ago.
• 47:54
SPEAKER_00: This is a nice transi take on one of the vibier level tracks from Star Fox.
• 47:59
SPEAKER_00: And Pixel Seth runs into killer guitar.
• 48:02
SPEAKER_00: Rounding out the new music is Edura's Desperation by Gario from Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals.
• 48:10
  SPEAKER_00: And that baseline.
• 48:11
SPEAKER_00: It is bringing some fun to the Luvia 2 Boss Battlefield.
• 48:15
SPEAKER_00: Lion Tanger calls out the Symphonie as having Streets of Rage 3.
• 48:21
SPEAKER_00: It sounds a little more like Street Fighter 2.
• 48:23
SPEAKER_00: But definitely a fun take on the source material.
• 48:26
SPEAKER_00: And speaking of the source material, I would recommend checking out Luvia 2.
• 48:32
SPEAKER_00: I only played the game well into my 30s.
• 48:35
SPEAKER_00: And there's just a lot to love there.
• 48:42
SPEAKER_00: And the story goes later than I've never seen an RPG story go before.
• 48:51
SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, I was not able to get together the interview that I was going to do.
• 1:09:49
  SPEAKER_00: And that's it for June 2026.
• 1:09:52
SPEAKER_00: Our interstitial music this month was Soak and Water by A Rival from Mega Man 2.
• 1:10:00
SPEAKER_00: As always, our playoff music is See You Next Time with Water from Final Fantasy Vive.
• 1:10:07
  SPEAKER_00: Come join the conversation.
• 1:10:08
SPEAKER_00: Overclock Remix has an active Discord as well as active forums.
• 1:10:13
  SPEAKER_00: Still viable in 2026.

• 1:10:24
SPEAKER_00: So if you like the music you heard today and want to keep it online for everyone to continue enjoying for free, I will mean a couple of things.
• 1:10:33
  SPEAKER_00: Or whatever you heard.
• 1:11:30
  SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
• 1:11:32
  SPEAKER_00: That's a one.
• 1:11:33
SPEAKER_00: So we have all that remains.
• 1:11:36
SPEAKER_00: I am Zach Parish and Jeff Hall from Mario and Luigi, Bowser's Inside Story.
• 1:11:43
SPEAKER_00: Have a good one, and I'll see you next time.
