- 0:43Speaker 1: Let's get into the interview.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Bootleg Cap Show.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We got a special guest in here, a living legend,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and randomly enough, the only time he's been on the
- 0:53Speaker 1: show by himself, E-40.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Real talk, because the last one was with Mount Westmore, right? Yes,
- 0:59Speaker 2: it was. Mount Westmore, yeah. Yes, it was.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It is good to see you, 40.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Good seeing you, fam.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you made history, man. You dropped the first ever
- 1:05Speaker 1: quadruple album?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 1: In hip hop.
- 1:07Speaker 2: First to first one that I know of.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I never heard of a quadruple album.
- 1:12Speaker 2: It's not from an official, you know, like a military
- 1:15Speaker 2: missile artist. Right. You feel me?
- 1:17Speaker 1: 40 records, 10 on each. I got midway through disc three.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Soul and Vallejo is probably my favorite joint because I
- 1:26Speaker 1: feel like you just kind of brought everybody from the
- 1:28Speaker 1: city into one record.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 1:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Everybody can have their own.
- 1:31Speaker 3: That's why you do 40 songs. So everybody can pick
- 1:34Speaker 3: what they love.
- 1:35Speaker 2: You know what I mean? It's going to be different years.
- 1:38Speaker 1: What was the process? Because I know usually you... I
- 1:42Speaker 1: feel like we've had to wait a few years. Was
- 1:45Speaker 1: it two or three years?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Three years, right?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Since you dropped your last album. Which is odd for you.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Very odd. Um.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So talk about just walking me through the idea of landing. Like, look,
- 1:55Speaker 1: we're going to do it. Fuck it. You've done the
- 1:57Speaker 1: triple album thing before. How'd we land on a four album?
- 2:01Speaker 3: The way we landed on four albums was me feel
- 2:04Speaker 3: like I owe my fan base.
- 2:07Speaker 2: This. I owe my fan base four albums.
- 2:11Speaker 3: And 40 songs is really, these days, not really a
- 2:15Speaker 3: lot for four albums. 40 songs for four albums.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Especially for you. Especially for me, because I didn't do,
- 2:21Speaker 2: you know, you already know I didn't do triple albums.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I didn't do double albums.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I didn't do, like, I've been doing triple albums. Remember,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I had the block for sure, Welcome to the Soil, 1, 2, 3,
- 2:29Speaker 3: and 4, 5, 6.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 2:32Speaker 3: I didn't have the day shift, revenue retrieving day shift,
- 2:36Speaker 3: night shift, graveyard shift, overtime shift. You know, I've been doing,
- 2:41Speaker 3: and in the 90s, I had the Element of Surprise
- 2:44Speaker 3: double CD.
- 2:44Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 2:46Speaker 3: You know, that was 1997, 98, somewhere around there. You know,
- 2:49Speaker 3: the grit don't quit. But anyway, I owe my fan
- 2:52Speaker 3: base this, man, because they used to me dropping, and
- 2:55Speaker 3: I went ahead and dropped this.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Thing for, you know, for the culture. Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You know, for the culture. It's not trying to be
- 3:04Speaker 3: shock value. Is that what they call it, shock value?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, they say shock value. That's fair. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Like, I'm trying to make headlines by doing the four-hour night. Right.
- 3:11Speaker 3: No, this was generally just me just... Dropping great music. And,
- 3:15Speaker 3: you know, you roll the dice, man. You know what
- 3:16Speaker 3: I'm saying?
- 3:17Speaker 2: I rolled the dice. And, you know, it came out nice.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 3:20Speaker 3: Because a lot of times you drop that many songs,
- 3:22Speaker 3: you know, you can get scrutinized for that kind of stuff.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And they'll be like, man, he did that for nothing.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But the feedback, man, straight blappers, man. I came back
- 3:31Speaker 2: to back. No skips.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Not for sure, man. I think it's a testament, too,
- 3:36Speaker 1: to be able to drop out 40 records without any
- 3:39Speaker 1: filler or skips. Right.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It really is.
- 3:41Speaker 1: People can't put out 15 songs without half of it
- 3:44Speaker 1: being bullshit.
- 3:45Speaker 3: And to be in the game for almost 40 years
- 3:47Speaker 3: and having the most top 200 Billboard album entries in
- 3:51Speaker 3: the history of hip-hop besides NBA Youngboy.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Talk about it. I'm number two.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Talk about it.
- 3:55Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 3:56Speaker 1: And you did it the old school way.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I did it the old school way. You know what
- 3:59Speaker 2: I'm saying? Where.
- 4:00Speaker 3: You didn't have access to just using your phone to
- 4:04Speaker 3: go get a cassette or a CD or any album.
- 4:07Speaker 3: We had to get up early in the morning, you
- 4:09Speaker 3: understand me, get dressed, hop in the vehicle, head out
- 4:14Speaker 3: every Tuesday, and you go to your local store, your
- 4:17Speaker 3: local mom and pop store or your chain store, and
- 4:20Speaker 3: go ahead and.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Break your paper. Nowadays, you know what I'm saying, you subscribe.
- 4:26Speaker 3: To, you know, streaming outlets and whatnot, and you know,
- 4:29Speaker 3: on Thursday at 9 p.m. Pacific Time, 12 a.m. Eastern Time,
- 4:39Speaker 3: you can just push the button on a Thursday, push
- 4:42Speaker 3: the button and get whatever album you want, brother.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Talk to me, because back in the day, you had
- 4:48Speaker 1: kind of like a, a groundbreaking situation with Jive. You
- 4:52Speaker 1: were using them for distribution. You had a 75-25, something
- 4:55Speaker 1: like that.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah. And they couldn't hold a reserve on the first
- 4:58Speaker 2: $ 200, 000 because that's what I was selling before I even
- 5:01Speaker 2: got with them. Wow. So, you know, when you can't
- 5:04Speaker 2: hold a reserve, you know, you get your... You understand
- 5:06Speaker 2: what I'm saying? So, you know.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And back then, that's when CDs are $ 20.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You go to Sam Goody, $ 18.
- 5:12Speaker 2: 99.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 5:13Speaker 2: The Yaper was the Yaper. Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And, like, your deal... was one of the first deals
- 5:20Speaker 1: that a number was put out in a press release.
- 5:22Speaker 1: How much it was for, is that right?
- 5:23Speaker 2: That was an estimated deal.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But it was put out there.
- 5:26Speaker 3: $ 3 million deal, that's what they were saying. It was
- 5:28Speaker 3: a big deal back then. Y'all got to understand what
- 5:31Speaker 3: year this was. This was 1994. You know what I'm saying?
- 5:35Speaker 3: I was independent already from 88 to 94. Just imagine
- 5:39Speaker 3: me making my moves for seven years.
- 5:44Speaker 2: What is it, 88? Six years. Six years? Yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Independent you know saying small distributors such as city heart
- 5:51Speaker 3: records and uh you know music people and using that
- 5:55Speaker 3: as the main hub to get orders from all over
- 5:57Speaker 3: the place when i sat down with barry wise of
- 6:00Speaker 3: jive records barry was like see all he showed me
- 6:04Speaker 3: the sound scan nelson sound scan which is now luminate
- 6:08Speaker 3: got it right so he showed me the sound scan
- 6:09Speaker 3: he say water he said check this out so you
- 6:12Speaker 3: see all these zeros you see this right here there's
- 6:14Speaker 3: zero in this state you see this is You see
- 6:16Speaker 3: the five CDs in this state.
- 6:18Speaker 2: All these are going to be filled up. And he
- 6:20Speaker 2: wasn't lying.
- 6:20Speaker 3: When I came with my debut album, In a Major Way, fuck,
- 6:26Speaker 3: they face opened.
- 6:28Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Like this.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So you were able to kind of see all these
- 6:31Speaker 1: markets that you weren't moving in units before. You're like, oh, now.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I seen the machine. Yeah. You feel me?
- 6:37Speaker 3: And you know, some people live in the hood by choice,
- 6:42Speaker 3: not by force.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Or some people live in the hood by force, not choice. Yep.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Well, that's how it was with us in the Bay
- 6:49Speaker 3: Area with independent music.
- 6:51Speaker 2: We had to, it was by force, we had to
- 6:53Speaker 2: be independent. We didn't have no other outlets. We had
- 6:55Speaker 2: to do it on our own. Mm-hmm. You feel me?
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was funny, too, because, like, if you
- 6:59Speaker 1: think about, we always talk about, like, I feel like,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I just had too short up here. Yeah. And just, like,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you know, the pioneering of, independent rap that came out
- 7:12Speaker 1: of that era. Like Master P cut his teeth in
- 7:14Speaker 1: the bay. You know what I'm saying?
- 7:17Speaker 2: He was out there with us and he got with
- 7:18Speaker 2: my uncle St. Charles. So you know how a lot
- 7:19Speaker 2: of people say you know, they call everybody uncle. No,
- 7:23Speaker 2: this is my real uncle. This is my, St.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Charles Thurman is my mama's brother. It was 11 of them.
- 7:31Speaker 3: It was 11 in the family. All but my granddaddy
- 7:34Speaker 3: and grandmama. You had 8 girls, 3 boys.
- 7:37Speaker 2: You feel me? St.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Charles was just To this day, he's just an amazing person.
- 7:42Speaker 3: He's an amazing father figure. You understand me? And he
- 7:46Speaker 3: was always like, you know, uncle is like people's second dad.
- 7:49Speaker 1: 100%.
- 7:50Speaker 2: So he was like my second dad. 100%. Taught me
- 7:52Speaker 2: a lot. You know what I'm saying? Taught me a lot.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Taught all the cousins, all his little nephews. You feel me?
- 7:59Speaker 3: Taught us a lot about the gang. So anyway, we
- 8:03Speaker 3: doing our thing. We needed him and he needed us
- 8:05Speaker 3: because we provided him with everything. The talent and the songs.
- 8:10Speaker 3: And he provided us with the business skills and taught
- 8:14Speaker 3: us a lot.
- 8:15Speaker 2: You feel me? Me and the Click.
- 8:17Speaker 3: When I say that, I'm talking about Sick with the Records. Me, B-Legit, D-Shot,
- 8:19Speaker 3: Sugar T. You feel what I'm saying?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Because the Click album, was the Click album first?
- 8:26Speaker 2: So it was MVP, Most Valuable Players, 1988. Okay. It
- 8:30Speaker 2: was Most Valuable Players. It was a four-song EP. Yes, sir.
- 8:35Speaker 2: vinyl and cassettes.
- 8:36Speaker 3: I don't even think we had cds at that time
- 8:38Speaker 3: you know yeah and then i was like you know
- 8:40Speaker 3: what you know we was like at that time you
- 8:43Speaker 3: know what i mean we was trying to like we
- 8:44Speaker 3: didn't really know we all trying to figure out we
- 8:47Speaker 3: some hood cats trying to figure this thing out so
- 8:49Speaker 3: we like you know what at that time we're trying
- 8:51Speaker 3: to hit straight radio all right man we can't so
- 8:56Speaker 3: you know we that wasn't really us right and um
- 8:59Speaker 3: i'm talking about shortly after i'm talking about When I
- 9:03Speaker 3: say shortly, I'm talking about shortly after. I was like,
- 9:07Speaker 3: we're going to change our name to The Click with
- 9:09Speaker 3: the hurry-up-ness, right? So we did Left Side. We had
- 9:13Speaker 3: a Vogue tire on there with money around it and whatnot.
- 9:15Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? Zines and Vogues. And that
- 9:18Speaker 3: was Left Side. And this is the shit that will
- 9:21Speaker 3: fuck with your.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Brain, boy. That's when I put the title Mob Music. Boom, boom, boom.
- 9:30Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 9:30Speaker 1: So that's the birth of the mob music.
- 9:33Speaker 2: The name of it, yes. The name.
- 9:34Speaker 1: There was a name to the music.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yes, and we, I feel, I really want to give
- 9:39Speaker 3: this to Tusho, but he had the funk. He had
- 9:42Speaker 3: the funk, you know, because my big bro had, you
- 9:48Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, me, the Dauphine beat.
- 9:50Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? That was the first, I
- 9:53Speaker 2: felt like that was funk, but it was mob.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:56Speaker 2: So I put the mob music on it.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Nobody can ever say that 40 didn't coin mob music,
- 10:02Speaker 3: and I lived it. I did mob music better than
- 10:05Speaker 3: pretty much anybody on this planet, and nobody can say
- 10:08Speaker 3: I haven't.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what I mean? Along with Too Short.
- 10:11Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? That's my big bro, and
- 10:13Speaker 2: he was before me, B.R., before me, before rap. You
- 10:17Speaker 2: know what I'm saying? Before I started.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I was rapping but he was already in the mix
- 10:20Speaker 3: like bisquicks you know what i'm saying and um so
- 10:24Speaker 3: yeah so i we came with mvp most valuable players
- 10:27Speaker 3: then we came with less side uh the click less
- 10:29Speaker 3: side and and a click is one big family and
- 10:33Speaker 3: that's then we are siblings me d shot be legit
- 10:36Speaker 3: sugar yeah cousin b you feel me like that so
- 10:40Speaker 3: then we came with um And then we came with,
- 10:43Speaker 3: after that, I came with Mr.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Flamboyant, my solo bolo.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Which was on the Click album, right?
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we put that on it after I had already
- 10:50Speaker 2: released it in 89.
- 10:51Speaker 1: It was on Down and Dirty, right? It ended up
- 10:53Speaker 1: on Down and Dirty.
- 10:53Speaker 2: It went on Down and Dirty, the Click Down and Dirty.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But Mr. Flamboyant was a single that was out.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 10:58Speaker 3: So I came with Mr. Flamboyant and it just lit
- 11:00Speaker 3: up the world. It was the most unique thing. And
- 11:02Speaker 3: people don't know my producer name. I'm a producer.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I'm a composer. I played the drums all the way
- 11:09Speaker 2: from 4th grade to 12th grade. You feel me?
- 11:11Speaker 3: I've always been very smart with my music. And all
- 11:15Speaker 3: the music to this day, I'm a professional beat picker.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And all the music to this day, even when I'm
- 11:20Speaker 3: working with other producers.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I know what I want and I know what I
- 11:26Speaker 2: need to have in there.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 2: And they like working with me and they're very open-minded.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You have one of the best.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Ears for beats, I'll say.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Thank you. Yeah. Thank you.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I feel like if I was an artist, it'd be like,
- 11:38Speaker 1: And I was cool enough with you. I'd be like, hey,
- 11:39Speaker 1: would you be down to A & R my ass? Right?
- 11:41Speaker 2: I'd be good at it, bro.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I feel like you'd be a good A & R.
- 11:43Speaker 2: You know what I mean? You already know, baby.

- 13:03Speaker 3: So I was at Bobby Ford's through there. Shout out
- 13:04Speaker 3: to Bobby Ford. We in Fairfield, California. And I step
- 13:08Speaker 3: in there. I say, Bobby, I want to produce a beat.
- 13:12Speaker 3: So he set the keyboard up. He had a few
- 13:17Speaker 3: samples in there, motherfucker, that I wanted to really rock with.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So he just like, and I just came up.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I start playing it. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 13:31Speaker 2: And that was Mr. Flamboyant. As a youngster, I never
- 13:34Speaker 2: knew Nathan. You know, that disobedient-ass child in your neighborhood.
- 13:36Speaker 3: You know, the one the police was always chasing. Straight
- 13:38Speaker 3: down the dirty for my props.
- 13:40Speaker 2: 11 years old. Extra man. He's hard-headed. Shrining rocks. This
- 13:44Speaker 2: is 1989, brother, and I'm guessing. You know what I'm saying?
- 13:46Speaker 3: If it was a fifth party, all of us would
- 13:48Speaker 3: be drunk. Don't even like trip on the little petty
- 13:50Speaker 3: punk shit like that.
- 13:51Speaker 2: What is he saying, man? He's talking about hot ones
- 13:53Speaker 2: to the back.
- 13:54Speaker 3: You know, I was talking about, you know, see, he
- 13:56Speaker 3: throws the Hulk unit in the big-ass gumbo pot. Foam, stir,
- 13:59Speaker 3: let it settle to make it lock. You can like
- 14:01Speaker 3: Rodgers Lee Taylor real swinging when it's about to smell.
- 14:03Speaker 3: As far as the overkill, 500 grams extra pertaining to
- 14:05Speaker 3: the triple beam scale. Solid as a rock, white, white, white, A1,
- 14:08Speaker 3: good yola. None of those scantless ass cake up with
- 14:10Speaker 3: baking soda.
- 14:11Speaker 2: You feel me? I was just popping it. You feel me?
- 14:14Speaker 2: In 89. 89.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Rapping like that is crazy.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Rapping like that. First one talking about all that stuff, man.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Because I was a hustler. Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Even just like the wordplay.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:24Speaker 1: In 89, you really only had Rakim who was on
- 14:27Speaker 1: a level like that.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Come on. I was popping it.
- 14:31Speaker 1: That's crazy, man.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so then we came with Down and Dirty. You know,
- 14:35Speaker 3: that really took us to the top. That's when City
- 14:38Speaker 3: Hall Records was like, hey, St. Charles, you know those
- 14:40Speaker 3: guys you had on the phone the other day? And
- 14:42Speaker 3: the ones that you said, that I said, one raps
- 14:46Speaker 3: too fast and the other one raps like he's reading.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That was me and B to the J, right? He said, hey, man,
- 14:52Speaker 2: can I get like 5,000 of those CDs? Yeah, yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 2: He had to backtrack. He had to walk it back. Walter,
- 14:58Speaker 2: I love you, but you know what you had to do.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You had to walk it back.
- 15:01Speaker 3: We proved you. But what you did, you gave us
- 15:04Speaker 3: this extra strength. You gave us this, I'm going to
- 15:07Speaker 3: show you what we can do. And we made a
- 15:10Speaker 3: lot of money together, us and City Hall Records.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I can imagine, man. Yeah, because Master P was out there.
- 15:15Speaker 1: He had a record store, right?
- 15:17Speaker 2: He had a record store.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I didn't know about that, but I know he said
- 15:21Speaker 3: he had a record store, but he was in the Bay.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Don't get it twisted. And he was making music.
- 15:27Speaker 3: And there were so many great rappers in the Bay
- 15:30Speaker 3: that Master P was kind of like, you know, not
- 15:34Speaker 3: as great as we thought he was going to end
- 15:36Speaker 3: up being. You know, when you have success, you get confidence.
- 15:41Speaker 3: And when you have confidence, you'll take it, especially when
- 15:44Speaker 3: you got the drive. And you know how to, you
- 15:48Speaker 3: understand me, push your product. And that's what Master P did.
- 15:51Speaker 3: So he went down.
- 15:52Speaker 2: He was very brilliant. He got with my Uncle St.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Charles.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Yeah. You feel me? Figured it out. Yeah, they figured
- 15:58Speaker 2: it out together.
- 15:59Speaker 3: And he went and got down south and went to
- 16:01Speaker 3: the sticks of Louisiana and all over the place out
- 16:03Speaker 3: that way. And went and got some people that were
- 16:06Speaker 3: great talent with different styles and everything.
- 16:09Speaker 2: And he put them on the label.
- 16:11Speaker 3: And them dudes was very grateful and humble. We out
- 16:14Speaker 3: here with, you know, we in the Bay. You know,
- 16:16Speaker 3: California with, you know, people that, you know, want to
- 16:19Speaker 3: be spoiled and whatnot. Like, they quit after their first
- 16:22Speaker 3: little album. All my artists, they left. They wanted to leave.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I didn't have to.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I was like, go ahead. Go.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Y'all can go. I'll keep you on the label, but
- 16:31Speaker 3: you know what? This might be a blessing in the future.
- 16:33Speaker 2: You know what I mean? So I was like, go ahead.
- 16:35Speaker 2: You feel me? A lot of them. So, you know, P,
- 16:38Speaker 2: all them dudes in the South, all the people in
- 16:40Speaker 2: the South that he hired. I mean, not hired, but
- 16:43Speaker 2: he signed. They were grateful. So when they see their
- 16:46Speaker 2: first checks, they're like, okay, boom, we good.
- 16:49Speaker 3: And we see we can make some money with this.
- 16:51Speaker 3: And they blossomed.
- 16:53Speaker 2: No limit. Blossomed. Pete took it to a whole nother level.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I take my hat off to him. I got nothing
- 16:58Speaker 2: but love for Pete. Like that.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I always wondered for you, like, you always say, like,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you are, I feel like whatever you do is always
- 17:08Speaker 1: unapologetically 40. Even if you're like, okay, I want to
- 17:11Speaker 1: work with some of the youngsters or maybe... go somewhere
- 17:14Speaker 1: sonically that's that's newer yeah in the bay i feel
- 17:18Speaker 1: like there was this crazy movement of like you and
- 17:21Speaker 1: sally sell and too short and mac mall and all
- 17:24Speaker 1: like you said the mob music shit when did you
- 17:26Speaker 1: kind of notice that the sonics were changing and like
- 17:32Speaker 1: there was this kind of new thing happening that ended
- 17:35Speaker 1: up being called hyphy but obviously before it was called
- 17:38Speaker 1: just like mob music wasn't called mob music before it
- 17:40Speaker 1: was called right but when did you kind of feel
- 17:42Speaker 1: the shift, like, oh, there's some shit going on that, like,
- 17:46Speaker 1: is different.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Well, this is, so I'll tell you this.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Listen, and I'm going to be, I'm going to be,
- 17:51Speaker 3: let me, let me, man, let me, let me be
- 17:53Speaker 3: very careful about this, because there's a lot of suckers
- 17:55Speaker 3: out there that'd be, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Oh, you need to put your mic closer.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Oh, okay, okay. No, no, you're good, you're good. Okay,
- 18:00Speaker 2: let me be real careful about this. Mm-hmm. This is cranberry.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I ain't going to tell you what else in it, but, um.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Maybe some of that, uh. E-40 tequila? Tycoon vodka. The
- 18:12Speaker 1: tycoon vodka. Ooh, I haven't had the vodka. I had
- 18:14Speaker 1: the tequila. The tequila's wonderful.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I have to give you a care package. Please, anyway.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Let you be careful about your answer.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:21Speaker 3: So let me tell you something, man. Man, cats and
- 18:25Speaker 3: real motherfuckers in the Bay.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Can I cuss? Yeah, of course. Real cats in the Bay.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Like the solid ones, not the goofy motherfuckers that go
- 18:35Speaker 3: off conspiracy. They know motherfuckers going dumb off her. Mustard
- 18:41Speaker 3: and Mayonnaise is going dumb off of my song. Mustard
- 18:44Speaker 3: and Mayonnaise is going dumb off of my song. Seven
- 18:47Speaker 3: Much is an act of ass. I got footage of
- 18:51Speaker 3: Mac Dre, you know what I'm saying, me, in Seattle
- 18:54Speaker 3: or Portland, I believe, going dumb to, we gonna act
- 18:58Speaker 3: of ass. Wasn't hating or nothing.
- 19:00Speaker 2: None of that bullshit. He wasn't hating like that. None
- 19:02Speaker 2: of that, man. People paint these smoke and mirrors theories
- 19:06Speaker 2: and all that, you know what I'm saying, me, so.
- 19:08Speaker 3: They was going crazy off my song because I know
- 19:12Speaker 3: Sweet Jimmy's David.
- 19:13Speaker 2: From Sweet Jimmy's. He's a good friend of ours. He's
- 19:16Speaker 2: our family. You know what I'm saying? Man, I remember
- 19:20Speaker 2: back in 2003, he was like, man, they go crazy
- 19:24Speaker 2: when we play gasoline.
- 19:25Speaker 3: They was like the whole hyphy shit inside his club.
- 19:30Speaker 2: So it didn't have a title. You know what I'm saying?
- 19:33Speaker 2: But my music made people... Do that. You feel me?
- 19:38Speaker 2: When I came with, this is a slumper with me
- 19:40Speaker 2: and Turf Talk. Turf Talk and myself. I was featured
- 19:43Speaker 2: on the song. Rick Rock did it. This is a slumper.
- 19:47Speaker 2: We can go to a lot of the Kick the
- 19:48Speaker 2: snake song.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Well the first time i ever heard keek was on
- 19:50Speaker 1: ring it.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Ring that was that was up by some hyphy i
- 19:54Speaker 3: don't know if you want to know we was up
- 19:55Speaker 3: tempo our sound was different than everybody else's hyphy wasn't
- 19:59Speaker 3: really up tempo at the time like that it was
- 20:00Speaker 3: just but they would go they would they would do
- 20:02Speaker 3: the hyphy shit they.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Would do the dance and To the yin-yang, too short,
- 20:07Speaker 2: burn well, all that shit, man. You feel me? And so,
- 20:11Speaker 2: you know, I come with, you know, the Federation.
- 20:16Speaker 3: This 2003, Mac Dre was well alive, never had anything
- 20:20Speaker 3: to say about it. I'm talking about well alive. You know,
- 20:24Speaker 3: been on my radio show, been to my Vince Nittio shoot, quarterbacking.
- 20:28Speaker 2: This is with the Federation. Quarterbacking. Quarterbacking.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Was that with the Clips? Yeah, we did it with
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Clips. I flew him out to the Bay Area.
- 20:35Speaker 2: We did that. You feel me? You know? Matt Drake
- 20:39Speaker 2: was at that visit.
- 20:40Speaker 3: So I say this shit all the time and people
- 20:43Speaker 3: act like that. And you know, it's a trip because
- 20:46Speaker 3: I be like, man, I wonder, these Bay Area motherfuckers,
- 20:49Speaker 3: they know damn well he was there. Real Bay Area rappers, too, like, known,
- 20:53Speaker 3: and they never say nothing about it, and they know
- 20:55Speaker 3: he was there. And I'm like, why they don't chime
- 20:57Speaker 3: in when niggas be painting their fake narrative?
- 20:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:59Speaker 3: And I be like, man, I think niggas hate me
- 21:01Speaker 3: on the tuck, and I ain't never did nothing but.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Show niggas love and get on they songs the whole worldwide,
- 21:06Speaker 2: but that shit be bothering me a little bit. And
- 21:09Speaker 2: I'm taking notes now. You know, when you get older,
- 21:11Speaker 2: you get a little crankier. And Lil be like... You
- 21:14Speaker 2: need your credit, man. Yeah, you be like, you get
- 21:15Speaker 2: a little cranky. You be like, man, you know what?
- 21:17Speaker 2: I'm tired of this shit. I'm tired of supporting motherfuckers
- 21:20Speaker 2: the whole woo-wop. You feel me?
- 21:21Speaker 1: I do feel like any time any Bay Area artist
- 21:24Speaker 1: that matters has come out, they always get the 40 feature.
- 21:26Speaker 1: No problem.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I always look out. Yeah. But they don't look out.
- 21:30Speaker 2: When people saying that bullshit, they don't chime in and say, nah, 40,
- 21:34Speaker 2: he right. Mac Dre was there. The reason he wasn't
- 21:38Speaker 2: in the Visnidio.
- 21:39Speaker 3: is because he had to leave because he was on
- 21:41Speaker 3: some type of curfew or whatever. He was staying in
- 21:43Speaker 3: Sacramento at the time.
- 21:45Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? And at that time, I
- 21:46Speaker 2: used to argue. I'm talking about not just.
- 21:49Speaker 3: That Viznitio, but hella Viznitios. I'm arguing with all these
- 21:55Speaker 3: high-power quote-unquote directors because, you know, at that time, You
- 21:59Speaker 3: know what I'm saying?
- 22:00Speaker 2: I have major distribution.
- 22:02Speaker 3: So they say, man, you probably need to get this
- 22:04Speaker 3: person to do it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Right, right, right. And that's the age of the big
- 22:08Speaker 1: video directors.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Hype Williams and the guys that cut the check videos.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Yeah, right, right. You feel me?
- 22:15Speaker 3: And so I'm like, bro, can you just take time
- 22:18Speaker 3: to get all my guys that have been waiting to
- 22:20Speaker 3: get in this video?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Can we just knock that out right quick? Just a
- 22:24Speaker 2: quick cameo with a pose. You know, just a quick
- 22:28Speaker 2: little woo-woo. They say, nah, we're going to get it
- 22:30Speaker 2: at the end of the night. And I'm arguing with
- 22:32Speaker 2: these motherfuckers. At the end of the night, it's like
- 22:33Speaker 2: too late. People got to go.
- 22:36Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? So that's what happened with that.
- 22:39Speaker 3: And there's many people that was there that was rappers,
- 22:42Speaker 3: a lot of rappers, and they don't.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Be saying shit. They'll be like, yeah, 40 was up.
- 22:46Speaker 2: He was there.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And it make me think, because I've been winning for
- 22:49Speaker 3: a long time. So I've been speaking my mind lately.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Quite possibly the longest. The longest. Yeah. One of the
- 22:55Speaker 2: longest running, you know, runs in hip-hop history.
- 22:58Speaker 1: No, it's like you and Too Short. Like, quite literally,
- 23:01Speaker 1: in terms of the longest run.
- 23:03Speaker 2: In hip-hop. I mean, LL Cool.
- 23:05Speaker 1: J's not an active artist like that. Like, he put
- 23:07Speaker 1: out a cool album two years ago. But, like, LL
- 23:09Speaker 1: is dropping, like, once a decade now.
- 23:11Speaker 2: He the one, the first one that came with the
- 23:12Speaker 2: term cool. But outside of LL. So I'm going to
- 23:14Speaker 2: stay out of that one.
- 23:14Speaker 1: No, no, but I'm saying, like, I feel like consistently
- 23:17Speaker 1: dropping music. It's you and Too Short.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Like, I'm very consistent. We're very consistent.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Shout out to Ice-T, too, who just put a new
- 23:23Speaker 1: album out.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Great product.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Salute to Ice-T.
- 23:25Speaker 2: You know, we grew up on a lot of that stuff.
- 23:27Speaker 2: You know what I mean? And Cube.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Shout out to Cube.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Definitely. And Snoopy Dogg, all of us.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I think about the 80s.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, the 80s. I was in the 80s. Yeah, for sure.
- 23:36Speaker 2: For sure.
- 23:37Speaker 3: You know, so I just trip off that, man. But,
- 23:40Speaker 3: you know, staying consistent. You know what I'm saying? And
- 23:43Speaker 3: when you've been winning for.
- 23:44Speaker 2: So long, bruh.
- 23:46Speaker 3: It's like, don't try to compete with a motherfucker that
- 23:49Speaker 3: you can't compete with.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I'm a different breed. I'm a different, I'm rare. I'm
- 23:54Speaker 2: very rare. I'm like one of them ones, like not
- 23:57Speaker 2: trying to brag, but I've been to the point where
- 23:59Speaker 2: I speak my mind now. Because if I don't tell
- 24:01Speaker 2: my story, ain't nobody else going to tell it. 100%, man.
- 24:03Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 24:05Speaker 3: So if you can help me rewind, because I'll be
- 24:08Speaker 3: having so much to say. If you can help me
- 24:10Speaker 3: rewind what the main question was on this one right here.
- 24:14Speaker 2: That'd be great.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Well, we started talking about the click, and then I
- 24:17Speaker 1: brought up, I just said, like, when did you kind
- 24:19Speaker 1: of notice sonically kind of the streets, you know, going
- 24:25Speaker 1: to the more up-tempo.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I like that. Going dumb. So everybody was. Bro, everything
- 24:31Speaker 2: wasn't Even Mac Dre, his shit wasn't always up-tempo. No,
- 24:34Speaker 2: it used to be Like the No, that's kind of
- 24:37Speaker 2: his last era. Right, but that up-tempo shit.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Came from Rick Rock and all them, and Tracks Millions.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Tracks Millions. You feel me? Shout to Rick Rock, man.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Because I'll tell you, when we did the song Hyphy, which.
- 24:52Speaker 3: I don't know who coined it, whether it's Mac Dre
- 24:55Speaker 3: or Keke the Sneak.
- 24:56Speaker 2: They say Keke the Sneak. I think Keke takes... And
- 24:58Speaker 2: that's fine. I never, never said any of that.
- 25:01Speaker 3: And I want to let motherfuckers know, because they say,
- 25:03Speaker 3: he didn't start, he wasn't on that movement until Mac
- 25:05Speaker 3: Dre died.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You little suckers, you bitch-ass motherfuckers. Stop, bro. Stop.
- 25:11Speaker 3: The song hyphy was already out when that man was
- 25:15Speaker 3: living right it was out he never said anything about
- 25:17Speaker 3: it hyphy was a big record that started a movement
- 25:20Speaker 3: what brought mt mtv uh my.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Block to the to the bay area right.
- 25:27Speaker 3: That song was sick and guess it was on the
- 25:30Speaker 3: motherfucking hook and had a verse on there e40 stop
- 25:33Speaker 3: playing with me man you know i mean um i want.
- 25:37Speaker 1: To talk uh obviously you've talked to at length about
- 25:40Speaker 1: your relationship with Tupac. You guys got a couple of classics.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Wait, let me say this. Yeah. Sorry. And it came
- 25:45Speaker 2: out in 2003. Yeah. Hyphy. The song Hyphy came out
- 25:51Speaker 2: in 2003. I was featured on there. The Federation featuring E-40.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I'm on there.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Hyphy.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Make them nosy neighbors want to call it. Hyphy. I mean,
- 25:59Speaker 2: sparked a whole big ass thing. movement in the federation
- 26:02Speaker 2: man you feel shout out to the federation but the
- 26:05Speaker 2: beat i was in there actually with rick rock when
- 26:07Speaker 2: the beat was made because i make a and i'm
- 26:09Speaker 2: the one who turned.
- 26:10Speaker 3: To put the you know i'm saying because rick rock
- 26:14Speaker 3: is one of them producers where he keeps it where
- 26:18Speaker 3: i can a composer because my i'm a producer too
- 26:22Speaker 3: And my producer name is Benjamin Blackperson. So Rick Rock
- 26:25Speaker 3: is so open-minded that he let me, you know.
- 26:27Speaker 2: What I'm saying?
- 26:28Speaker 1: Benjamin Blackperson.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I produced a song on my new album.
- 26:31Speaker 1: No, that's great.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Me and Cocaine.
- 26:33Speaker 1: It's called On Top. Shout out to Cocaine, man.
- 26:35Speaker 2: You feel me? So anyway, I'm going to let you
- 26:36Speaker 2: finish up.
- 26:37Speaker 1: No, I was going to ask you, man. Obviously, you
- 26:39Speaker 1: had a great relationship with Pac, who was on your
- 26:42Speaker 1: first album.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I'm sure your first major.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Major distribution. Your first jive release.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Yeah, my first.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Your first nationally distributed project.
- 26:53Speaker 2: There you go.
- 26:53Speaker 1: There you go. You know, recently, Keefie D got found
- 26:57Speaker 1: guilty yesterday of the murder. I was just curious, like,
- 27:00Speaker 1: do you feel like that brings any closure to the situation?
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's been so many years, like.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it'll never bring any closure because we
- 27:07Speaker 3: lost the goat.
- 27:09Speaker 2: We lost the goat. Gone way before... before he was
- 27:15Speaker 2: supposed to go.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Family-wise, I know that ain't going to bring closure, but
- 27:21Speaker 3: it might give some, like you said.
- 27:23Speaker 2: I ain't followed the case like that.
- 27:27Speaker 3: There's so many things all over the place. I just
- 27:31Speaker 3: know my guy gone, but what gives closure to me
- 27:34Speaker 3: is he didn't die instantly.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He fought, and he had time to repent, and I
- 27:40Speaker 2: know him. He repented. And that man is an angel
- 27:44Speaker 2: right now. He's in heaven. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all
- 27:47Speaker 2: I got to say.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Richie Rich said he was the guy who was just
- 27:50Speaker 1: like he would be out all the time. They'd always
- 27:54Speaker 1: be sharing girls. He was like, you don't understand. He
- 27:58Speaker 1: was like the life of the party in the Bay.
- 28:00Speaker 2: He's like, people.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Come to town.
- 28:01Speaker 2: A Bay motherfucker to the fullest.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:04Speaker 2: You know, he learned his game from the Bay.
- 28:06Speaker 1: 100%.
- 28:06Speaker 2: You feel me? He Bay area for sure. You know
- 28:09Speaker 2: what I'm saying? Yeah. And, you know, real player. You
- 28:13Speaker 2: know what I mean? Real player about it. And we
- 28:15Speaker 2: miss him, man. We lost one of them ones, man.
- 28:18Speaker 2: You know?
- 28:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Dusted and Disgusted is definitely an all-time 40 record
- 28:22Speaker 1: in terms of just if you look at your catalog.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I mean, you got so much. It's a top 20, 30,
- 28:27Speaker 1: 40 record.
- 28:27Speaker 2: It's definitely up in there.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It's up in there.
- 28:30Speaker 2: He came with it. He came with it. You feel me?
- 28:35Speaker 1: For you, man, you had such a great relationship with
- 28:37Speaker 1: P and No Limit. I feel like there was a
- 28:41Speaker 1: lot of synergy in terms of the independent thing. But
- 28:44Speaker 1: then I also know you had such a great relationship
- 28:47Speaker 1: with the Cash Money guys and Birdman, who also, I guess,
- 28:52Speaker 1: after you had your deal publicized, they had their massive
- 28:56Speaker 1: deal that they did with Universal. Talk about your guys' synergy,
- 28:59Speaker 1: because all the Cash Money guys were on your albums,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and Birdman's been on your shit. What was that synergy
- 29:05Speaker 1: like where you guys kind of just gelled?
- 29:08Speaker 2: Well, I was on my Hall of Game tour in 1996.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I'm in New Orleans.
- 29:13Speaker 3: I'm at the radio station early in the morning, hella early.
- 29:16Speaker 3: And I walk in there. I think I'm either leaving out.
- 29:21Speaker 2: After the interview or I was walking in.
- 29:25Speaker 3: But there was two people, and it was Birdman, Beatrice,
- 29:30Speaker 3: before they called him Birdman.
- 29:32Speaker 2: He's like, man, fall it, whoop, whoop, whoop, man, love, respect,
- 29:35Speaker 2: you know, because he a real one. Yeah, of course.
- 29:37Speaker 2: And he showed me nothing but love and respect, you know.
- 29:40Speaker 3: And he said, this is my brother Slim, Slim hella tall.
- 29:44Speaker 3: You know, we exchanged numbers, and from there, history was made.
- 29:47Speaker 2: So moving forward, you know, I was the first one,
- 29:50Speaker 2: I was the first rapper.
- 29:52Speaker 3: That I know of To get on. Because, you know,
- 29:55Speaker 3: Cash Money, they had such a big clique.
- 29:57Speaker 2: They had hot boys.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they were featuring each other all the time.
- 30:00Speaker 2: That's it. They wasn't rocking with anybody.
- 30:02Speaker 1: It was like a Cash Money artist featuring three other
- 30:04Speaker 1: Cash Money artists.
- 30:05Speaker 2: That's it. Nobody else. Right. Nobody else.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Just all Cash Money. I was the first one when
- 30:09Speaker 3: we did Baller.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Blockin'. Oh, great, great soundtrack.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Right?
- 30:13Speaker 3: They flew me out the whole world. I mean, you know,
- 30:16Speaker 3: we kick it heavy. That's why we all, you know, Juvie,
- 30:19Speaker 3: that's my boy. All of us are so BG. I
- 30:23Speaker 3: got nothing.
- 30:24Speaker 2: But love and respect because we had great times together.
- 30:26Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Birdman, he flew me out.
- 30:30Speaker 2: We did Baller.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Blockin'. And I think I'm almost 1,000% certain that I
- 30:36Speaker 3: was the first rapper featured on a Cash Money record
- 30:41Speaker 3: album or single that featured outside of their click then
- 30:47Speaker 3: check gang so they come to Bosco Conte Bosco do
- 30:51Speaker 3: all the slaps for me you know doing slaps for
- 30:54Speaker 3: me due to you know he got the electro spit
- 30:57Speaker 3: you know device that he when y'all seen.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Him on on the tiny.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Desk he was had to load he was playing with
- 31:05Speaker 3: his he had it on his phone and he was
- 31:07Speaker 3: you know saying he used that's his device that he
- 31:10Speaker 3: actually made up and it's really a phenomenal device for
- 31:18Speaker 3: the talk box.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah. So he, at that time, he was using.
- 31:22Speaker 3: The OG talk box with the tube and everything. So anyway,
- 31:25Speaker 3: he was, anyway, he, that song was produced by him.
- 31:31Speaker 3: It was called Look At Me. And we used Rodney
- 31:33Speaker 3: O and Joe Cooley.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Which we, you know, which obviously Future just did with
- 31:39Speaker 1: Kendrick and that broke the game for us.
- 31:43Speaker 2: And guess what my hook was? What was it? It's
- 31:46Speaker 2: like that. It's like that. Look at me. It's like that.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 31:51Speaker 2: It was called Look At Me, right? But that was
- 31:53Speaker 2: the hook.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I wonder if Metro Boomin heard that and like consciously, like,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I don't know, like, If.
- 31:58Speaker 2: It was, that's okay with me.
- 31:59Speaker 1: No, that's cool.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Because, you know, a lot of them cats grew up
- 32:03Speaker 3: on me. I'm not saying he did, but I know that,
- 32:06Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, you can find interviews with,
- 32:08Speaker 3: you know, Future showing me love.
- 32:11Speaker 2: In real life. He's a big hip-hop head, too. People
- 32:13Speaker 2: that they grew up on, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:14Speaker 2: And I love it, man. I mean, your favorite rappers
- 32:17Speaker 2: grew up listening to a lot of my soil shit,
- 32:21Speaker 2: the Federal album. Federal, you know what I mean? Federal,
- 32:25Speaker 2: the mailman. You understand? In a major way. We can
- 32:28Speaker 2: go down and dirty. We can go all the way
- 32:31Speaker 2: back to the late 80s. You feel me? Let's side.
- 32:33Speaker 2: You feel me? So anyway, so we go to, we
- 32:37Speaker 2: do that. We do the song. I mean, we got everybody.
- 32:39Speaker 2: We got Lil Wayne, all of us at Bosco House.
- 32:42Speaker 2: We're at Bosco House in LA. Crazy. And we do
- 32:44Speaker 2: the Look At Me record. You feel me? So y'all
- 32:47Speaker 2: do y'all streams.
- 32:48Speaker 1: That's on Charlie Hustle, right?
- 32:50Speaker 2: That was on Charlie Hustle, the blueprint.
- 32:51Speaker 1: 1999. 1999.
- 32:51Speaker 2: You feel me? Yeah, we did our job, man.
- 32:56Speaker 3: And, you know, so I feel I feel like they
- 32:59Speaker 3: never rapped on anybody else's album or song besides their own.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:05Speaker 2: And they they did it on mine.
- 33:07Speaker 1: You are on one of the few rap songs that
- 33:10Speaker 1: are now Diamond. You have a Diamond song and a
- 33:13Speaker 1: Diamond plaque now.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Shout out to Big Sean.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Big Sean, man. Shout out to Big Sean.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Shout out to that's a mustard bee, right? Is that
- 33:22Speaker 1: a mustard beat?
- 33:22Speaker 2: That's a mustard and mic-free beat.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Yeah, shout out mic-free. Shout out to mustard.
- 33:26Speaker 2: And Kanye.
- 33:28Speaker 1: And Ye.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Kanye came and put the little.
- 33:33Speaker 3: The only rappers on that thing was Big Sean and
- 33:37Speaker 3: Earl Stevens.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And it's Diamond.
- 33:38Speaker 2: And it's Diamond.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yo, it's got to be crazy to have a diamond record.
- 33:42Speaker 2: It's very gassy.
- 33:43Speaker 1: It's definitely.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Have you gotten the physical plaque yet? Yeah.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I saw you guys do like a press, like where
- 33:49Speaker 1: you guys unveiled the plaque.
- 33:50Speaker 3: It's a trip because UPS, when they dropped it off
- 33:52Speaker 3: at the coffee table, right? They knew they fucked up.
- 33:55Speaker 3: They knew they broke that motherfucker, right? So I had
- 33:57Speaker 3: to send it back. So they redoing it.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Oh, they broke it? Yeah, they broke it. It had
- 34:01Speaker 2: the bubble pack and the whole woo-wop in it. Yeah,
- 34:03Speaker 2: they broke it.
- 34:04Speaker 1: You was like the kind of joint you got to
- 34:06Speaker 1: go pick up.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Yeah, for real. Like send a trucking company. Send someone
- 34:09Speaker 2: down to L.A. to grab that motherfucker. Absolutely. You feel me?

- 36:03Speaker 1: Did, like, you get that record, do you feel it's
- 36:06Speaker 1: as big as it is? Because you never can map
- 36:09Speaker 1: out a record being diamond.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Would you like to hear the story, how it unfolded?
- 36:13Speaker 1: Please.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Okay. So, you know, I'll lock in with Detroit, period. 100%.
- 36:20Speaker 1: The Bay and Detroit are cousins.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yes.
- 36:23Speaker 3: And me, The Click, Richie Rich, all of us, we
- 36:28Speaker 3: all be legit.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Be legit. You be legit can go anywhere in Detroit and, ah,
- 36:34Speaker 2: that's B-Leg. He part of us. Yeah. This is how
- 36:37Speaker 2: it went. You know what I'm saying?
- 36:40Speaker 3: We did songs with the Cheddar Boys and the Street Lords.
- 36:43Speaker 3: All them boys back in the days, you know what
- 36:45Speaker 3: I'm saying?
- 36:45Speaker 2: Street Lord Juan and all those guys. Yeah, you know
- 36:46Speaker 2: what I'm saying?
- 36:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 2: All that.
- 36:48Speaker 3: So we, uh, actually, um, you know, but we used to,
- 36:51Speaker 3: when we was out there, we would be out there for, for,
- 36:54Speaker 3: for like a few weeks. Like we wasn't just out
- 36:57Speaker 3: there for a day in and out, like the burger,
- 37:00Speaker 3: we out there, like, right.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Demi part of the culture. You feel me?
- 37:04Speaker 3: So just, you know, all, all these artists that, that
- 37:09Speaker 3: you know of a lot of them, their parents grew up,
- 37:12Speaker 3: you know, listening to us.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Cause we, we have that age now. Yeah. And, um,
- 37:17Speaker 2: You know, and the artists just show a lot of love.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I'm glad I got Peezy on the album, you know.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Shout out to Peezy. Shout out to Babytron. Shout out
- 37:25Speaker 1: to them boys in Flint going crazy, RMC, Mike.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Shout out to Dej Love. Dej Love.
- 37:32Speaker 3: She used to tell me her dad turned on his
- 37:34Speaker 3: prank on me, T-Grizzly. He put me on the phone
- 37:37Speaker 3: when his mom came from the pen. He said, I'm
- 37:39Speaker 3: going to call you. I'm going to FaceTime you because
- 37:40Speaker 3: mom's home. And he FaceTimed me, you know what I'm saying?
- 37:45Speaker 2: Hey, how you doing? It was my first time.
- 37:46Speaker 3: But she grew up on my music, you know what
- 37:48Speaker 3: I'm saying? So, you know what I mean? It's a
- 37:50Speaker 3: lot of them. We rock with Detroit sincerely, like sincerely.
- 37:55Speaker 3: So Big Sean, you know, he knew about me growing up,
- 37:58Speaker 3: his family and the whatnot. And so I met him
- 38:02Speaker 3: in Sacramento at 102.5.
- 38:05Speaker 1: KSFM.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, KSFM at their woo-wop. And we exchanged numbers.
- 38:11Speaker 3: And then we did the remix to We In This.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Thing, Bruh.
- 38:14Speaker 1: We In This Thing, Bruh.
- 38:16Speaker 2: We In This Thing, Bruh. We In This Thing, Bruh. Right?
- 38:18Speaker 2: There you go.
- 38:19Speaker 3: And he gassed it, right? So I stayed in contact
- 38:22Speaker 3: with him. I'm the type of person, if I like you,
- 38:24Speaker 3: I love you, you know what I'm saying? So I
- 38:26Speaker 3: just hit him one day just out of nowhere, just
- 38:28Speaker 3: like We In This New Deal.
- 38:29Speaker 2: I'm on one, you know what I mean? I'm drinking.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I'm in the orange room. He just so happened to
- 38:34Speaker 2: pick up on the first ring. Oh, gee. Man, that's
- 38:39Speaker 2: crazy you called me. I got one for us. I
- 38:43Speaker 2: got one. But, oh, gee, this got to be one
- 38:46Speaker 2: of them ones. You got to come with the dopest
- 38:48Speaker 2: verse you ever did in your life. I said, well,
- 38:51Speaker 2: what shit was in it?
- 38:52Speaker 3: So he sent that thing through. I took a few hours,
- 38:56Speaker 3: maybe about three, four hours, maybe four. Knocked that thing out.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Sent it back to him. It was so gassy. But
- 39:03Speaker 2: when he sent it to me, we knew it was
- 39:06Speaker 2: out of here.
- 39:07Speaker 3: I had Cousin Feek in the studio with me. I
- 39:09Speaker 3: had my cousin Work Baby. We in there, we going crazy.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Oh my God, this is out of here. The hook
- 39:15Speaker 2: was already made. Everything was done. All I had to
- 39:19Speaker 2: do was fill out the application.
- 39:21Speaker 1: That's beautiful. Was the Kanye intro on it already or
- 39:24Speaker 1: did you hear that later?
- 39:25Speaker 2: Not yet.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Yeah so then he get the song um um so
- 39:30Speaker 3: big shine get the song when we sit the back
- 39:33Speaker 3: and then you know when i say uh got a
- 39:35Speaker 3: blunt my dinner blowing hemp and a rental yeah i'm
- 39:37Speaker 3: away he came with uh Everything that I do is
- 39:41Speaker 3: my first name.
- 39:42Speaker 2: You know, he readjusted his, and that's what great artists do. Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Just a little bit.
- 39:48Speaker 3: He already had the same rest, but he just readjusted,
- 39:50Speaker 3: and that's what great artists do so we can make
- 39:52Speaker 3: the song.
- 39:52Speaker 2: A huge song.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's crazy. And that was Donnie.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Then Kanye.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Then Kanye.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Then he sent it in for some reason. No, no,
- 40:00Speaker 2: he was plugged with Kanye. I think he was with him.
- 40:02Speaker 1: He was signed to good music.
- 40:03Speaker 2: He was signed to it, yeah. So Kanye went in there,
- 40:05Speaker 2: and that man went in there and did some.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Such a great great intro genius you feel me and
- 40:12Speaker 3: then out of a sudden this crazy record and we
- 40:15Speaker 3: out of here like.
- 40:16Speaker 1: This bro it's like um i always say there's like
- 40:20Speaker 1: There's all-time white rap songs where if you go to
- 40:23Speaker 1: a white wedding, they're going to play it. Yeah. And
- 40:25Speaker 1: that's in the.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:27Speaker 1: That's that and Blow the Whistle and Flo Rida's Low.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:31Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 40:32Speaker 2: Blow the Whistle was so damn timeless.
- 40:34Speaker 3: I mean, a lot of people don't even know that
- 40:38Speaker 3: I had so many blaps up in Stankonia's studio at
- 40:42Speaker 3: that time.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Shout out to Atlanta. Shout out to Stankonia's studio. Shout
- 40:46Speaker 2: out to Chris Carmouche. Shout out to Lil Jon and
- 40:49Speaker 2: all them. You know what I'm saying? BME. Man, Lil Jon,
- 40:52Speaker 2: he was just on a roll.
- 40:54Speaker 3: And he sent me. He pulled it up and said, here,
- 40:59Speaker 3: what about this one?
- 41:00Speaker 2: Guess what it was?
- 41:01Speaker 1: The blow the whistle beat?
- 41:02Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 41:03Speaker 1: So did you cut something to it?
- 41:04Speaker 2: No. You passed on the blow the whistle beat? Two days.
- 41:07Speaker 3: I tried to see what I can do with it.
- 41:09Speaker 3: All it had was the beep, beep, beep. It just
- 41:12Speaker 3: had the listen, listen, don't get mad at me.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Beep, beep, beep. It had the whistle in there.
- 41:18Speaker 3: It took a genius like Todd Shaw, my ninja, to
- 41:22Speaker 3: go in there and just make it a very simple,
- 41:26Speaker 3: blow the whistle.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I didn't know what the fuck to do with a whistle.
- 41:29Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 41:32Speaker 3: This dude, man, for real, man, I love that dude, man.
- 41:36Speaker 3: He's such a genius, and he's a great guy. Uh,
- 41:39Speaker 3: because you know, you gotta understand he's musically inclined too.
- 41:42Speaker 3: He's one of them guys that played in the band too.
- 41:44Speaker 2: He played the drums too in high school, junior high,
- 41:47Speaker 2: that type stuff, you know? So we know music, you know?
- 41:50Speaker 2: And so, man, that man went in there and kicked
- 41:51Speaker 2: his feet and he did a great job. I don't
- 41:54Speaker 2: think I would have been able to do it. I
- 41:56Speaker 2: don't think it would have been. It wouldn't have been
- 41:57Speaker 2: what it was. It wouldn't have been what it was.
- 41:58Speaker 2: And that's just the way the world works. That's how God,
- 42:02Speaker 2: God made it. And we made, I made 10 when
- 42:04Speaker 2: to go. He made that at the same time, them
- 42:06Speaker 2: two songs. Anywhere you play them, they're going crazy. It's
- 42:10Speaker 2: the Kobe and Shaq of the Bay Area shit. Absolutely.
- 42:13Speaker 1: I want to know, though, it speaks to Lil Jon's
- 42:16Speaker 1: genius that a guy from Atlanta produced the two biggest
- 42:20Speaker 1: Bay Area rap songs ever.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 42:22Speaker 1: He produced Tell Me When To Go. He produced Blow
- 42:24Speaker 1: The Whistle.
- 42:25Speaker 2: He did. But you know what's bigger than both of them?
- 42:28Speaker 1: What?
- 42:28Speaker 2: That he produced?
- 42:30Speaker 1: What?
- 42:31Speaker 3: UNF booty, almost three times platinum. It's like 2.8 written out.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Do your illumination.
- 42:36Speaker 1: You know what's crazy?
- 42:37Speaker 2: Do your illuminate investigation, gentlemen.
- 42:40Speaker 1: No, I believe you.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Record execs, all y'all that see this interview, look at
- 42:44Speaker 3: the illuminate numbers and you'll see.
- 42:46Speaker 1: But I think culturally, like I know Tell Me When
- 42:49Speaker 1: To Go barely just went platinum.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:50Speaker 1: But like culturally, those two records are like some stuff,
- 42:56Speaker 1: you know, SoundScan can't tell the story of Tell.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Me When To Go. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 43:00Speaker 1: It's like Ye Area. The Ye Area record is like
- 43:03Speaker 1: a record that it don't matter, I don't know how
- 43:05Speaker 1: much it's sold, it's probably gold, but you can't speak
- 43:08Speaker 1: to how important of a song that is.
- 43:11Speaker 2: It is very true.
- 43:12Speaker 3: And that's just how music goes, and that's how the
- 43:15Speaker 3: culture goes. You're absolutely right about that. But I was
- 43:18Speaker 3: tripping off that, because UNF Booty, that's a trip.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Almost three times like this.
- 43:23Speaker 1: No, that's crazy. Three times platinum, UNF Booty. Shout out
- 43:25Speaker 1: to T-Pain.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Oh, man. Can I tell you about T-Pain?
- 43:28Speaker 1: Oh, I mean, please. He's one of the best guys.
- 43:31Speaker 2: T-Pain is one of the rawest talents of all time.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I love that dude, man.
- 43:36Speaker 1: I hate when people try to box him in like, yo,
- 43:38Speaker 1: without Auto-Tune, he's still a fucking alien who could sing
- 43:41Speaker 1: like an angel.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Well, so, see, you know. Yeah.
- 43:44Speaker 3: So, that gives me the opportunity to tell you how
- 43:47Speaker 3: it went when we did UNX.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Right?
- 43:50Speaker 3: So, I'm in this new deal. I got Al Capone
- 43:54Speaker 3: with me. Al Capone from Memphis, Tennessee. He was signed
- 43:58Speaker 3: to me. He did the Whoop That Trick shit, right?
- 44:00Speaker 2: People don't know that. He did the Whoop That Trick.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Whoop That Trick.
- 44:04Speaker 1: He got an Oscar, too.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he got one.
- 44:07Speaker 1: That's right.
- 44:07Speaker 2: I know. Shout out to our brothers from Triple Six Mafia.
- 44:09Speaker 1: But also, Al Capone got an.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Oscar, too. Al Capone is legendary. He was legendary before
- 44:13Speaker 2: I signed him. You know what I'm saying?
- 44:15Speaker 3: And so, you know, he was in this studio with me.
- 44:19Speaker 3: John did this beat.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 2: So we like this beat is vicious it's it's out
- 44:28Speaker 2: of here.
- 44:28Speaker 3: If we can get the right thing so a dude
- 44:30Speaker 3: named maurice was in there with us too and maurice
- 44:34Speaker 3: had just had did the interview for t-pain with t-pain
- 44:39Speaker 3: so al capone.
- 44:40Speaker 2: But before before maurice.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Said that al capone said man let's get t-pain because
- 44:47Speaker 3: he's not overused and he's on his way up the
- 44:50Speaker 3: ladder and this that and the third Maurice say, I
- 44:53Speaker 3: got a line on him.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Can y'all stop all that noise, please? Thank you so much.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Come on, cool nuts. Y'all fucking up my shit.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Why you emptying out the bag so loudly?
- 45:01Speaker 2: This is important shit I'm doing. Whoever it is over there,
- 45:03Speaker 2: that motherfucker.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Portland always fucking everything up.
- 45:05Speaker 2: That's the P, the P? The P, come on, the P.
- 45:08Speaker 2: You know better than that. You're too player. So look,
- 45:13Speaker 2: so what I did, so Al Capone was like, let's
- 45:18Speaker 2: get T-Pain. Let's get T-Pain.
- 45:21Speaker 3: And Maurice was like, I think it's Maurice was like, man,
- 45:24Speaker 3: I just did an interview with him.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I got a line on it. So he calling. Right.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Not the easiest guy to get on the phone. I'm
- 45:30Speaker 1: sure that's right.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Cause he's. It just so happened. He said, man.
- 45:34Speaker 3: So I think we call, I don't know. John called him.
- 45:38Speaker 3: It might've been John. John, one of us called him.
- 45:40Speaker 2: We was like, he came down there. As soon as
- 45:42Speaker 2: he walked in the studio, he just so happened to
- 45:44Speaker 2: be in Atlanta.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Cause he lived out there. He walked in the studio.
- 45:48Speaker 3: I greet him, shake his hand. He said, what's up, Fonzarelli?
- 45:52Speaker 2: Right. I never knew he knew, you know.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he was like hip to the movement.
- 45:55Speaker 2: I didn't know.
- 45:55Speaker 1: You never know.
- 45:56Speaker 3: He called me Fonzarelli. Anytime somebody called me Fonzarelli, do
- 45:58Speaker 3: you know.
- 45:59Speaker 1: They old school?
- 46:00Speaker 2: They're tapped in. Right. So he came in there, played
- 46:03Speaker 2: the beat. We played the beat. He went in the
- 46:05Speaker 2: vocal booth, killed it. Shake that stick in the movie,
- 46:09Speaker 2: trying to get to you. I'm talking about no out
- 46:13Speaker 2: of tune, no nothing. And it was already dope.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Jesus.
- 46:18Speaker 2: It was already dope. It was already dope. You feel me?
- 46:22Speaker 2: So he didn't even need the auto-tune.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Yeah. No, he don't.
- 46:26Speaker 2: He didn't even need it.
- 46:27Speaker 3: So then he was like, he just knew that was
- 46:29Speaker 3: his little get-up at that time. So he was like,
- 46:31Speaker 3: put the auto-tune on it. But the man sings his
- 46:34Speaker 3: ass off. He's truly talented and a great writer and producer.
- 46:41Speaker 1: You feel me? You have worked with a lot of
- 46:45Speaker 1: East Coast artists. You had a record with Sauce Money
- 46:48Speaker 1: and Fat Joe Get Breaded.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Sauce Money and Fat Joe.
- 46:53Speaker 1: You know too much, bro. Sauce Money was on Rockefeller.
- 46:56Speaker 1: He was one of the early Jay-Z affiliated artists. I
- 46:59Speaker 1: don't know if he was officially signed to Rockefeller, but
- 47:01Speaker 1: they were very.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Much in the beginning together.
- 47:03Speaker 1: You and Hov never worked together officially. Did it ever
- 47:07Speaker 1: almost happen? I feel like eventually it's got to happen.
- 47:13Speaker 2: You know, I love Hov.
- 47:14Speaker 3: I got nothing but love for him. He's a You know,
- 47:16Speaker 3: he's from my area. I think he's from my area.
- 47:19Speaker 3: He's only like a couple of years younger than me. And,
- 47:23Speaker 3: you know, I like people that don't be in bullshit
- 47:26Speaker 3: and don't be trying to spark up controversy and try to, you.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Know, troll and all that. He play with his family.
- 47:33Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I like that kind of shit, man.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Of course.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Come from the motherfucking octagon. You know what I mean?
- 47:38Speaker 3: From the trenches and the quicksand. And he's a billionaire. And,
- 47:43Speaker 3: you know, even before he was a billionaire, I always
- 47:45Speaker 3: had love and respect for him. But, you know, I
- 47:49Speaker 3: tried to sin. I got at Jay Brown when I
- 47:53Speaker 3: had choices. Everybody got choices.
- 47:57Speaker 1: By the way, Sink Monster, congrats on all that. I
- 47:59Speaker 1: see the commercials, and I'm just like, God damn.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Come on. They just re-upped. Chipotle just re-upped.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Shout out to Chipotle. God bless them.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Come on. And I'm like, man, I'm like, can I
- 48:10Speaker 2: send this to him?
- 48:11Speaker 3: Because it's going up. And, you know, he was like, well,
- 48:14Speaker 3: Jay Brown got back at me. It was like, you know,
- 48:17Speaker 3: he ain't going to be able to do it. And
- 48:19Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, okay. I know he's busy and stuff. So,
- 48:22Speaker 3: you know, I'm a player. I don't be tripping. And
- 48:24Speaker 3: I ain't no grudging nothing. But I don't even know
- 48:26Speaker 3: if Jay really got it to him.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Right. You know, because, you know, maybe he looked at
- 48:31Speaker 2: it like, man, he busy right now.
- 48:33Speaker 3: He ain't really in that mode. Maybe Jay, you know,
- 48:35Speaker 3: as a manager, he probably, you know, kind of like,
- 48:37Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? What they call that shit, gatekeep.
- 48:40Speaker 3: I feel like.
- 48:41Speaker 1: That be happening a lot. That happens a lot. You
- 48:43Speaker 1: damn near got to see Hov Courtside and be like,
- 48:45Speaker 1: we overdue. You know, I was doing this interview with
- 48:47Speaker 1: Boulay Kev, and he said it's crazy that we never
- 48:48Speaker 1: worked together.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 48:50Speaker 3: And it can't be embarrassing because I'm already locked into
- 48:53Speaker 3: the hip-hop legacy.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I ain't local. I'm global. I'm not just no little.
- 48:58Speaker 3: A lot of these new cats don't even understand. I've
- 49:02Speaker 3: been around since Dinosaur Urine. So I'm not just like,
- 49:06Speaker 3: you know, West Coast. I'm everywhere like air.
- 49:09Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 49:10Speaker 1: For you, I wonder, you know, when you have somebody
- 49:15Speaker 1: like Drake, who's the biggest artist in hip-hop, statistically, of course,
- 49:20Speaker 1: continually paying homage to the Bay, it's got to be dope.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Is that, you know, because obviously he just took Too
- 49:27Speaker 1: Hard for the Radio, went number one in two formats.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Chata Pila, who was just here, who helped co-produce that.
- 49:31Speaker 1: What are your thoughts just on, like, Dre and his
- 49:34Speaker 1: love for the Bay and how it feels like he
- 49:36Speaker 1: pays it back a lot? You know, whatever people want
- 49:39Speaker 1: to say about Drake, obviously.
- 49:42Speaker 2: I think a lot of people got love for the Bay.
- 49:44Speaker 1: As they should.
- 49:45Speaker 3: You know, I think a lot of people got love
- 49:48Speaker 3: for the Bay. A lot of people took a lot
- 49:50Speaker 3: of things from the Bay Area.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Not just me.
- 49:54Speaker 3: A lot of slang, a lot of fashion. Hey, the
- 49:56Speaker 3: broads in the Bay, they gamed up. See, in the Bay,
- 50:01Speaker 3: they gamed up. The broads, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:04Speaker 3: They get a motherfucker sprung.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Yeah. They get out of town and sprung. They got game.
- 50:10Speaker 2: And they be gaming them up on slang and, you know,
- 50:14Speaker 2: how we carry ourselves and the whole woo-wop.
- 50:17Speaker 1: The Bay Area women, believe it or not, they're spreading
- 50:20Speaker 1: Bay Area culture.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah. One NFL and rapper at a time. Right? They
- 50:24Speaker 2: very sharp.
- 50:25Speaker 1: One NBA player and rapper at a time.
- 50:27Speaker 2: They very sharp and they gamed up, you know, and
- 50:30Speaker 2: they're everywhere. Like, yeah, they all over the place like space.
- 50:33Speaker 2: You feel me?
- 50:34Speaker 3: So, you know, hey, man, you know the– it spreads,
- 50:38Speaker 3: you know, it spreads. I, I, you know, I feel like, um, um,
- 50:45Speaker 3: when you, when you so gamed up, you know, it's
- 50:48Speaker 3: going to spread that situation right there. You know, I just,
- 50:52Speaker 3: you know, yeah, I'm, you know, he grew up on,
- 50:56Speaker 3: he grew up on Bay music.
- 50:57Speaker 2: A lot of people grew up on Bay music. So,
- 50:59Speaker 2: you know, like that.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Yeah. That makes sense. Can you speak to your relationship
- 51:03Speaker 1: with tech? Because I remember seeing you and Tech N9ne
- 51:06Speaker 1: in Vegas in 2011, 12, 10? When was that tour?
- 51:12Speaker 2: Oh, was that the one with me, Kendrick? It was
- 51:16Speaker 2: House of Blues.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Kendrick was on the tour.
- 51:17Speaker 2: Was G Malone on the tour? Yeah, Glass and Malone,
- 51:21Speaker 2: DJ Head, all of those.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Legendary tour in retrospect, right?
- 51:25Speaker 2: Oh, for sure. Fast forward. J-Rock. Yeah, J-Rock.
- 51:28Speaker 1: That was when J-Rock had just dropped his album on
- 51:31Speaker 1: Strange Music.
- 51:32Speaker 2: Well, yeah. Just right. And Kendrick was, like, right there
- 51:38Speaker 2: as his protege. Yeah. And that's what I love about them.
- 51:40Speaker 1: On the bus, just hanging.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 3: He was right there. You know what I'm saying? Just
- 51:44Speaker 3: a dude just observing things. Young man that was cool
- 51:48Speaker 3: as hell. You know, him and, you know, mixed by Ali.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Ali was there.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Ali would record me on things. Because I had a
- 51:57Speaker 3: portable studio on that tour.
- 51:59Speaker 2: So... We had just good times, you know, just in
- 52:03Speaker 2: the studio. Me and J-Rock got songs on the tuck
- 52:05Speaker 2: that nobody know. I got to pull them things up.
- 52:07Speaker 2: This was like two or three of them. J-Rock was
- 52:09Speaker 2: always in there with me. During that tour, we had
- 52:11Speaker 2: a good time. Tech N9ne.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Tech N9ne is a trip because Tech N9ne is like
- 52:16Speaker 3: my cousin. Because he's on the family tree.
- 52:20Speaker 1: So you guys are actually related?
- 52:22Speaker 2: Him and King. Not King. Him and Sway. Sway in
- 52:25Speaker 2: the morning.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Sway Calloway. Everybody's related somewhere.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 52:30Speaker 1: On the tree.
- 52:30Speaker 2: This is not a lie.
- 52:32Speaker 3: This is the family tree of the, you understand me,
- 52:34Speaker 3: of the whole, not just me.
- 52:39Speaker 2: But our whole... When did.
- 52:41Speaker 1: You guys figure that out?
- 52:43Speaker 2: Because our... I got a cousin named Chris out of
- 52:46Speaker 2: Kansas City. Okay.
- 52:48Speaker 3: And he showed us the tree. And then my mama...
- 52:53Speaker 3: And everybody started putting it together.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Like, oh, shit.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's such and such. You know how they do it.
- 52:58Speaker 2: You feel me? And so I was like, damn, this
- 53:01Speaker 2: is crazy. I got cousins in Dallas.
- 53:03Speaker 1: The fact that you and Tech Nines related is crazy.
- 53:05Speaker 1: You guys just went on tour again, too.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Right, right. Yeah, we did. And I loved it because.
- 53:10Speaker 3: It was a challenge for me because I wanted to
- 53:12Speaker 3: reintroduce myself to, you know, certain regions and whatnot. You know,
- 53:16Speaker 3: people are like, you finna get on a bus, really.
- 53:18Speaker 2: And just hit these cities and grind. I say, yep,
- 53:21Speaker 2: I'm a hustler. You feel me?
- 53:22Speaker 1: Well, it's like, because you go from, like, you could
- 53:25Speaker 1: do the arena thing one day, right?
- 53:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 53:27Speaker 1: And then you go do the small venue. Like, it's just,
- 53:30Speaker 1: it's like, it's a testament to your work ethic. You
- 53:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying?
- 53:33Speaker 2: Absolutely. Every fan matters.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, and so it's a trip because
- 53:37Speaker 3: 30 days can go by so quick.
- 53:40Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, you'll be like, damn,
- 53:42Speaker 2: it's the first. I got to pay these bills again. Right.
- 53:45Speaker 2: You feel me? Electricity or whatever it is. Right. I
- 53:48Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to treat it like that. In
- 53:50Speaker 2: my frame of mind, my mom always told me back,
- 53:53Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, when I first started, just
- 53:55Speaker 2: take one day at a time. Just take one day
- 53:58Speaker 2: at a time. And that's what I did. And we
- 54:00Speaker 2: pulled it off. You know what I'm saying? We had
- 54:02Speaker 2: a great team. All of us was in sync. And
- 54:07Speaker 2: we just did our job.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Um, I, I was talking with short and he was like, look,
- 54:12Speaker 1: there's like a whole other Mount Westmore album that like
- 54:15Speaker 1: exists that obviously every, I mean, you guys just did
- 54:19Speaker 1: a show on Phoenix that I saw was crazy, but
- 54:21Speaker 1: talk to me like, what is this other Mount Westmore
- 54:24Speaker 1: project sound like? Because I felt like you and short
- 54:27Speaker 1: had a lot of influence on the production on what
- 54:29Speaker 1: we ended up hearing. Absolutely. It was a lot of,
- 54:32Speaker 1: a lot of Bay area flavor production wise. What is the, Because,
- 54:38Speaker 1: I mean, listen, we're talking about four of the greatest
- 54:40Speaker 1: rappers of all time. Fuck the West Coast shit.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Throw that out. Yeah, for sure. Come on.
- 54:44Speaker 1: So what does the unreleased album sound like? And are
- 54:47Speaker 1: you guys kicking the can around?
- 54:49Speaker 2: Blappin'. Well, it's not outdated. None of that, bro. It's
- 54:52Speaker 2: already blapped. Like, you know, we all make each other great.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:57Speaker 2: You know, Short, no. Short got a good ear, man. And,
- 55:01Speaker 2: you know, he the OG of the whole thing. You
- 55:04Speaker 2: know what I mean? Yeah. He put the first music
- 55:07Speaker 2: out way before we did. You feel me?
- 55:10Speaker 1: You guys being back on the road together, is the
- 55:12Speaker 1: idea getting tossed around? Yeah, it is. It's already done.
- 55:15Speaker 2: It is getting tossed around. Yeah. Because Snoop, you got
- 55:19Speaker 2: to understand, Snoop is like, he the baby of the bunch,
- 55:23Speaker 2: but he's also the most famous artist on this earth,
- 55:27Speaker 2: I feel like. Like, the most recognizable.
- 55:29Speaker 1: Artist on this earth. I think he's the most famous
- 55:31Speaker 1: person in America.
- 55:32Speaker 2: In America!
- 55:33Speaker 1: It's like him or our president, unfortunately.
- 55:35Speaker 2: In real life, bruh, he is. He just, he is.
- 55:38Speaker 2: He tall, he got a look on it. Grandmas love him.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Everybody knows Snoop.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Snoop's so dope.
- 55:44Speaker 1: I was at Costco today and I walked by a
- 55:45Speaker 1: freezer and there was Snoop Sickles.
- 55:47Speaker 2: He everywhere.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:48Speaker 2: He everywhere. You know, and that Snoopy dog, you know,
- 55:51Speaker 2: a loving person, a good person, and whatnot. You know
- 55:53Speaker 2: what I'm saying?
- 55:54Speaker 3: So, It's like we knew Snoop had got hella busy.
- 55:56Speaker 2: You know, he was doing the Super Bowl. He was
- 55:58Speaker 2: doing all kinds of shit.
- 56:00Speaker 1: All kinds of shit.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Snoop just running it up.
- 56:02Speaker 3: I think he got a little break in the action,
