- Sean Graver: Well, good news. You can make your sales number today. All you have to do is not mention that thing that would talk the customer out of it. Hey, I'm Sean, and this is Prayer Before Work. So there's a verse in the book of Proverbs that's stuck with me for years. And it says that a false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight. And that's Proverbs 11 1. And back then, a false balance meant a rigged scale, or a or a merchant putting his thumb on it so that the numbers came out in his favor. So this is the same idea, just a different century. The tools have changed, but the temptation has not. And here's the thing about sales is that nobody hands you a script that says, just lie today, because getting the sale is important. Now it's a lot smaller than that and a lot easier to miss. It's leaving out the detail that would slow the deal down. it's letting someone believe something that isn't quite true because I mean correcting them isn't technically your job, right? It's closing the sale that you're rewarded for. And look, I get it. Numbers are real. The paying the bills is real. And your manager checking up on you at four PM is real. So I'm not going to sit here and tell you that ambition is the enemy, because it's not. But there's a difference between selling well and selling someone out. And here's a question I've started asking myself before I make an ask of anyone in any context. If they knew everything I know right now, would they still say yes? Now if the answer to that is yes, well, go get it and don't hold back. But if the answer's no, or even I'm not sure, well, that's worth sitting with for a second before you move forward. Because the whole point of that verse isn't that business is dirty, it's that the scale matters even when nobody's watching you weigh it. Your integrity in the small stuff, the stuff that nobody checks on, that's actually where. Your character gets built. So let's pray. Well, God, you see every deal we close and every conversation that nobody else hears. Give us the courage to sell with a clean conscience, even when the easier path is the crooked one. And and help us care as much about the person across the table as we do about the number on the board. And when we're tempted to cut a corner, Remind us, you're not impressed by our quarterly results. You're interested in our integrity. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. And go make today count.
