- 0:00Back of the Xcel Yukon wins ninety to sixty Mike Chrispino joined by Luke Murray,
- 0:04y constant assistant coach. We look at these statu sheets end of these
- 0:08games. I know you all do too, But what's the first thing that
- 0:11stands out to you look at the stat sheet in a game like this?
- 0:14Well, offensively, you know, I thought we had a really good flow.
- 0:17You know, we look at the numbers and break them down, and
- 0:20we had one point four almost one point five points per possession, which is
- 0:24something that we're looking for. And so I thought we played with really good
- 0:27efficiency. Twenty two assisted baskets. It's something that we talk about a lot,
- 0:31and obviously kept our turnovers down as well. So I think that's the
- 0:34first thing that jumps out. It's nice to have Hassan Dara playing like this,
- 0:38isn't it? Because now you know Newton played thirty minutes in this game,
- 0:41But there're gonna be nights where maybe he has foul issues or whatever.
- 0:44It looks like you can start trusting Hassan more and more if he keeps playing
- 0:48like this. Yeah, definitely, I thought, in particular in the first
- 0:50half, he was really, really strong and gave us a big lift.
- 0:52You know, obviously the game was kind of in hand, so it allowed
- 0:56us to play some guys maybe a little bit less than they would normally play
- 0:58in a closer game. But he's a huge part of our team, and
- 1:02I think you saw how well he played in New York, you know,
- 1:03and I thought he did a pretty good job of building on that today and
- 1:07the work of the big fellow. Donovan Kling had some trouble in the game
- 1:11against Texas, foul issues. Out of the game. It looked as if
- 1:15on the chalkboard back there, you said, we're getting it to him six
- 1:19or seven or eight times in a row and see if they can stop him,
- 1:22and they really couldn't. Early on, Yeah, you know, obviously
- 1:23had a big mismatch inside just from a size perspective, their starting center was
- 1:27probably about six seven or so, So I thought, you know, there
- 1:30were a couple of times where you know, he didn't necessarily have his balance,
- 1:34a couple of times where he put up shots that maybe not as forceful
- 1:37as he's capable of. But I thought for the most part it was a
- 1:40big step forward. I thought he did a better job of establishing deep position
- 1:44and did a nice job step stepping up and making his free throw. So,
- 1:47you know, eighteen minutes, seventeen points. I thought, pretty efficient,
- 1:49and more than anything, it was really about the kind of shots and
- 1:52kind of position that he was getting. Yeah, he looked better on the
- 1:55free throw line too. You want to see that. I mean, you
- 1:57got to get him up to seventy somehow. He's only down a little fifty
- 2:00I think at this point. But he goes to the line a lot in
- 2:02these games. He does, he does, and you know, we've been
- 2:05working with him a lot. We've made a couple of adjustments in his mechanics,
- 2:08and he's I believe, nine for his last twelve from the line,
- 2:10so you know, seventy five percent the last couple of games. And I
- 2:15think headed in a good direction there. Yeah, before the game, you
- 2:16and I were talking a little bit about Jalen Stewart, Jayden Ross, the
- 2:20other freshman, a solo ball's been getting some starts here without Steph Castle available.
- 2:24What do you think of those two guys here tonight? They scored a
- 2:27little bit, they were involved, they were on the court, you know,
- 2:29ten fifteen, ten, twelve minutes in this win. Yeah, I
- 2:32think Jalen, you know, kind of took a little bit of a step
- 2:35forward in New York, being able to get into those games and play against
- 2:38really high level competition and looked pretty comfortable for the most part. It was
- 2:43nice to see him get something going offensively today. Knocking down the three,
- 2:46I think was big for his confidence. Did a good job. You know,
- 2:49he played fourteen minutes and I thought really helped us and look comfortable out
- 2:53there, which I think is big. You know, we're still trying to
- 2:53get Jayden there. Jayden has a ton of talent, you know, big
- 2:58time athlete and a shot maker with really good size at six seven. You
- 3:00know, it's just a matter of getting comfortable. It was nice to see
- 3:04us get that alley up for him to try to get him on the scoreboard,
- 3:07and hopefully he'll continue to get more and more comfortable out there. Yeah.
- 3:08The wealth of talent you have, the depth, it's great. I
- 3:12mean if you have issues, you know, where you're not scoring it or
- 3:15someone's in foul trouble or et cetera, et cetera, you do have some
- 3:19choices. That has to be a good thing for a coaching staff. Yeah.
- 3:22Absolutely, I mean We've talked about it at nauseum, you know,
- 3:24kind of how much of a strength of it was of last year's team,
- 3:27And Hassan and Sampson have obviously really emerged. Obviously, you know, Steph's
- 3:31going to be a big part of our depth as he comes back here.
- 3:34And then you know, like we talked about Jalen and Jade and those guys
- 3:37that are really pushing for that ninth spot. I think Jalen, you know,
- 3:38has done a really good job so far, so hopefully he can be
- 3:40somebody that really establishes himself as the competition kind of amps up here. Yeah,
- 3:45competition is always good, even in practice, right, no doubt.
- 3:49We love it all right, coach appreciate it. That's Luke Murray.
