- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody. Welcome into the Irish Studios podcast podcast for Pittsburgh
- 0:10Speaker 1: Stateer Finals across the island of Ireland and across the
- 0:14Speaker 1: world as well. Michael McQuaid here as we are on
- 0:16Speaker 1: the cusp of a lovely, relaxing six and two bye week.
- 0:22Speaker 1: He delighted to be joined by Davog Mickey, Davog Faulsa
- 0:26Speaker 1: my mom, Caja, what's the crack.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I'm doing well, mc, It's good.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Well, I was gonna say it was good to have
- 0:32Speaker 3: a weekend where we're not stressing over the Steelers, but
- 0:35Speaker 3: it's it's really not. I'm having what is the word,
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm looking for, depression even thinking about the fact that
- 0:41Speaker 3: we won't get to wash them this weekend. So but
- 0:43Speaker 3: as you've said, it's it's nice kusty Bay six and two.
- 0:47Speaker 3: After the Bay, we have a big schedule come up,
- 0:49Speaker 3: you know, the more difficult part of the schedule, without
- 0:51Speaker 3: a doubt. But I'm really happy about where we're going
- 0:54Speaker 3: into the Bay this weekend. So again, not not happy,
- 0:58Speaker 3: of course we get a break, but same time I'm
- 1:01Speaker 3: gonna miss not watch it being able to watch the
- 1:02Speaker 3: Staters this weekend.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I actually think and like I understand your point of
- 1:07Speaker 1: view there. I really feel like we'll probably talk about
- 1:11Speaker 1: this and this episode is where we sort of try
- 1:13Speaker 1: and regroup for ten fifteen twenty twenty five minutes and
- 1:16Speaker 1: just sort of break down the last few weeks for
- 1:18Speaker 1: some people. I really feel like the bias come at
- 1:22Speaker 1: the right time in the sense of, you know, you
- 1:24Speaker 1: get those six wins, but you say it yourself there,
- 1:26Speaker 1: and we will talk about this time of stretch in
- 1:28Speaker 1: the second but that end of the season, that second
- 1:31Speaker 1: stretch of the season, when we are facing teams in
- 1:34Speaker 1: the North especially, there's a lot of challenges. It certainly
- 1:38Speaker 1: have passed the tests so far, but I feel like
- 1:42Speaker 1: week nine is the right time. I'm ready for like
- 1:44Speaker 1: a little break, And you know, I guess first off,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I feel like, just yes, we can talk about the
- 1:51Speaker 1: last few weeks, but if we go into week nine,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I do feel like it's now appropriate to look at
- 1:56Speaker 1: the AFC nor and when you see obviously worse sitting
- 2:00Speaker 1: six and two, the Ravens are sitting five and three,
- 2:02Speaker 1: Bengals three and five, Browns two and six, so you know,
- 2:06Speaker 1: technically all of those teams have not played a game
- 2:10Speaker 1: lesser a game more like the NFC or for example, Dave.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But if you look at the Ravens, the Ravens have
- 2:15Speaker 1: got a really tough one this week. They've got the
- 2:17Speaker 1: Broncos coming into the time who were really hot. But
- 2:19Speaker 1: then also it's actually came out just as we've started recording.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is not doing great this week. He's actually
- 2:27Speaker 1: missing practice for the Ravens. So while we have that
- 2:30Speaker 1: week off, we do have, you know, a lot of
- 2:33Speaker 1: football to watch this weekend. We know the situation of
- 2:35Speaker 1: Cincinnati's in and the situation that Cleveland's been in for
- 2:39Speaker 1: weeks now, if not the whole season. But it's one
- 2:41Speaker 1: thing to sit here and say, well, look, you can
- 2:44Speaker 1: only focus on yourself, but we have to play these teams.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But at the same time, if you are starting to
- 2:50Speaker 1: open up a gap, it does give insurance. As much
- 2:53Speaker 1: as we're as much as we want to be looking
- 2:54Speaker 1: at that number one seed or whatever as possible, you
- 2:57Speaker 1: start to look at the North and thing to yourself,
- 2:59Speaker 1: we can get down this stretching three or four weeks
- 3:01Speaker 1: time and still be in this position. The North is
- 3:04Speaker 1: obviously to this cussion point, but you start the wonder
- 3:06Speaker 1: was after that? I feel like you know, first day
- 3:08Speaker 1: in terms of the division day, We're in a good spot.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Here absolutely, I mean to find ourselves top of the North,
- 3:15Speaker 3: you know, I know I called it a couple of
- 3:17Speaker 3: weeks ago with the most difficult division, the NFC North
- 3:19Speaker 3: has probably pepped us because the Cleveland Browns really fell
- 3:23Speaker 3: off a cliff. I did not expect them to have
- 3:25Speaker 3: as battle of the season of as they've been having.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And the Bengals as well. I mean that everybody had
- 3:29Speaker 3: the Bengals, you know, competing for the Super Bowl this year,
- 3:32Speaker 3: and they've been absolutely terrible.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Got blew out of the Eagles last weekend.
- 3:36Speaker 3: So there's been a lot of good things happening if
- 3:38Speaker 3: you're a Steelers on I mean the Ravens as well.
- 3:41Speaker 2: The Ravens are getting a lot of plauts in the media.
- 3:43Speaker 3: You know, everybody seems to think that the team they
- 3:44Speaker 3: are going to be, the team that's going to stop
- 3:46Speaker 3: at Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs. But they haven't lived up.
- 3:49Speaker 3: But you know, look at some of their losses as well.
- 3:51Speaker 3: They've lost to the Raiders. Of course, they lost to
- 3:54Speaker 3: the Browns last weekend, and of course the fact with
- 3:56Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson's the way his style of play, it's gonna
- 4:00Speaker 3: he's going to he's gonna take a lot of knocks,
- 4:01Speaker 3: and you know, the injury starts is up for grabs.
- 4:03Speaker 2: As you've just mentioned, there so to be a Steelers fan.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Six and two.
- 4:07Speaker 3: We're just quietly going about our business heading into this
- 4:09Speaker 3: Bay weekend. I liked what Russell Wilson said at at
- 4:12Speaker 3: the Pro postgame podium last weekend where he mentioned, we've
- 4:15Speaker 3: won absolutely nothing yet, We've done nothing because we've beaten
- 4:18Speaker 3: two Let's be honest, make two.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Teams that.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Both New York teams. They're not great. They're not good teams.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I mean, as far as we've said, we've seen the Jets.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Of course we're up there at the start of seasons.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Of course they have Aaron Rodgers. The Giants are struggling
- 4:33Speaker 3: with injuries themselves, but at the same time, they're not
- 4:35Speaker 3: good teams. So I'm happy to hear that we're not
- 4:37Speaker 3: getting ahead of ourselves. We're sitting at six and two,
- 4:40Speaker 3: top of the division. I'm really happy with where we're
- 4:42Speaker 3: out at the moment. And you know we've got this
- 4:44Speaker 3: AFC gunlet coming up at the second half of the season.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's probably going to be a lot easier than we
- 4:49Speaker 3: first contest hitted the main people who were considering ourselves
- 4:52Speaker 3: to be finishing bottom of this division, and look at
- 4:54Speaker 3: us now here. So we've done with everything we can
- 4:56Speaker 3: so far, so let's rest up, get the injuries out
- 4:59Speaker 3: of the way. Of course, we have been struggling with
- 5:01Speaker 3: injuries this year. This bye week gives us a chance
- 5:04Speaker 3: to sit back, relax and let those wounds of injuries
- 5:08Speaker 3: and we'll get back to it next weekend.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, once we actually get back in from the bye
- 5:12Speaker 1: week after this week, Commanders Week ten, Ravens Week eleven,
- 5:18Speaker 1: the Browns, the Bengals, and the Browns take us through
- 5:20Speaker 1: the week fourteen and then a really difficult stretch Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and the Bengals to close out the season. So a
- 5:27Speaker 1: really important segment of that season coming up in a
- 5:29Speaker 1: few weeks time, and we'll talk about that Commander's team
- 5:33Speaker 1: on next week's podcast when we get pass it by ourselves.
- 5:36Speaker 1: But look for a neutral. For anyone listening to this
- 5:38Speaker 1: is maybe not a Staters fan, first off, you should
- 5:40Speaker 1: be a Staters fan. But secondly, for a neutral, all
- 5:43Speaker 1: of those games licked the lips territory on the front.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I guess for a lot of us stavog When you
- 5:48Speaker 1: see games be put on to certain TV channels like
- 5:51Speaker 1: for example, Sky Sports in Ireland in the UK, you
- 5:53Speaker 1: would expect to see a lot of those games. I'm
- 5:54Speaker 1: already looking at that game against the Commander's a game
- 5:57Speaker 1: we'll not know to that week what happens, all waiting
- 6:00Speaker 1: to see. The NFL has to announce twelve a maximum
- 6:03Speaker 1: of twelve days before kickoff if they want to flex
- 6:06Speaker 1: a game. That Ravens game seems like one that could
- 6:09Speaker 1: really be flexed. And it's just me talking as a fan.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We don't know yet, and of course that'll be communicated
- 6:14Speaker 1: through football operations. So some really really key games coming up.
- 6:17Speaker 1: We are going to hear from Danny Smith in this
- 6:20Speaker 1: podcast in a little minute, but before we do so
- 6:23Speaker 1: that if you had to pick one game this season
- 6:27Speaker 1: so far that you've enjoyed, what would it be. And
- 6:29Speaker 1: just before we do that, like you said, you mentioned
- 6:31Speaker 1: a second ago about the New York teams. Look, I
- 6:34Speaker 1: agree with you, but what I would say is you
- 6:37Speaker 1: can only really beat what's in front of it in
- 6:39Speaker 1: this sense of Look, this is the schedule, and if
- 6:42Speaker 1: you were giving, like if you offer me six and two,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I know you would have been someone's handoff as well.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So I agree. It'll be interesting because we're actually recording
- 6:50Speaker 1: this on Halloween evening, so happy Halloween to everybody this weekend.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Spooky season over here. Actually the podcast record started late
- 6:59Speaker 1: because I've trigger traders knocking on my door, so that's
- 7:02Speaker 1: not but it'll be interesting to see. Obviously, the Jets
- 7:04Speaker 1: played first and night football this week as well, and
- 7:06Speaker 1: that's important because they're going to have some games against
- 7:10Speaker 1: AFC North of Talent coming over the next few weeks.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But yeah, you certainly expect someone of those teams to
- 7:14Speaker 1: play better over the next few weeks. I think the
- 7:17Speaker 1: biggest thing for me over the first eight weeks this
- 7:19Speaker 1: season that August being that consistency, ironically when we will
- 7:23Speaker 1: talk about the quarterbacks once we hear from coach Smith,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but just when there's been so much change, and the
- 7:29Speaker 1: biggest one for me, I guess in a negative way,
- 7:32Speaker 1: was probably that one in Dublin when we watched the
- 7:35Speaker 1: cold schame, and that's not being negative about like that.
- 7:36Speaker 1: That weekend was absolutely sensational, But you know, I think
- 7:43Speaker 1: a lot of us looked at that cold schame at
- 7:45Speaker 1: that time four weeks in and thought to ourselves, we've
- 7:48Speaker 1: got a good chance here of winning this game, especially
- 7:51Speaker 1: when we were coming in we were paying Oh. And
- 7:54Speaker 1: the thing is like, there was mistakes me in that game,
- 7:57Speaker 1: but in the end of it, we weren't that far off.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Of the week after that that that Cowboys game was
- 8:02Speaker 1: very difficult and the ends of it was very very
- 8:04Speaker 1: hard to take. And the thing that really got me
- 8:06Speaker 1: going as a fan was to see how this team
- 8:09Speaker 1: picked itself up afterwards, getting three key wins, going to
- 8:12Speaker 1: Las Vegas, which is now a presumptive Pittsburgh home game
- 8:15Speaker 1: against the Raiders with all the fans in the crowd,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and then getting that win in front of you and
- 8:19Speaker 1: Jimmy in that Jets game in prime time, and then
- 8:23Speaker 1: getting that win on Monday Night football, you know, getting
- 8:25Speaker 1: that experience of being under the lights, getting that experience
- 8:28Speaker 1: of the whole country, the whole world watching you. I've
- 8:31Speaker 1: been really impressed. Probably the biggest standout won for me
- 8:34Speaker 1: was that Raiders one, just for getting over the hump,
- 8:38Speaker 1: getting back into running west. Because you know, this weekend
- 8:41Speaker 1: when we're talking about teams like the Minnesota Vikings, who
- 8:43Speaker 1: got Sunday Night football coming up this week against the Colts.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Everyone said, well, they've lost two in the bounds. How
- 8:50Speaker 1: they're gonna regroup from that? And it's just funny because
- 8:53Speaker 1: every week something changes, and every week there's always a
- 8:55Speaker 1: different storyline, and you always start to wonder, well, it
- 8:58Speaker 1: could this be the week that they started the falter.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That has not been the case for the staters. Which
- 9:03Speaker 1: scheme is to like for you over the last few weeks.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Well, it's going to be no surprise which game I'm
- 9:08Speaker 2: gonna choose.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Me.
- 9:09Speaker 2: The Jets game for me.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Was not only because it was there, even watching the highlights,
- 9:13Speaker 3: I was just really impressed with the fact that was
- 9:15Speaker 3: Russell Wilson's first start and we've seen an absolute immediate
- 9:20Speaker 3: upgrade in offensive productivity. Of course, we had the one
- 9:23Speaker 3: hundred I think the one hundred yard rush game for
- 9:26Speaker 3: Nage was back against the Raiders. We've now had three
- 9:29Speaker 3: weeks in a row where he's rushed for one hundred
- 9:30Speaker 3: yards and now all of a sudden he's a different animal.
- 9:33Speaker 3: But for me, it has to be that Jets game,
- 9:35Speaker 3: how we run the ball. We came out of the
- 9:37Speaker 3: Of course we came out of the block slow, but
- 9:39Speaker 3: how we ad just ad Midland games second half adjustments
- 9:42Speaker 3: to come back and blow the Jets out of the
- 9:43Speaker 3: water was outsanding. That's probably my standout game, the game
- 9:47Speaker 3: that I did let me down. It has to be
- 9:48Speaker 3: the Coats. I mean, if you look at where they're
- 9:50Speaker 3: at now, they've just bunced out to me Richardson, who
- 9:53Speaker 3: I did?
- 9:53Speaker 2: I you know, not to stick my.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Knife in here, but I just didn't really see much
- 9:59Speaker 3: from him in his first season. Of course he was
- 10:02Speaker 3: injury plagued, and then Joe Flacco comes in and out
- 10:05Speaker 3: shines them. So that was for me with maybe the
- 10:07Speaker 3: disappointment game, but for me just how we were able
- 10:11Speaker 3: to bounce back with now won three on the trot
- 10:13Speaker 3: and Russell Wilson has completely reinvigorated this offense. I mean
- 10:17Speaker 3: it really really cannot be understrated MC the impact he's.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Had on this offense. It's been just a phase of coase.
- 10:23Speaker 3: He's still young, he's still learning, He's only going to
- 10:26Speaker 3: get better, but I feel this offense needed maybe a
- 10:29Speaker 3: vatter in presence, and that's exactly what he's brought in.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So we've also you know, we've seen a more aggressive
- 10:35Speaker 3: player colling style, whether Arthur Fromthfield's at Russ. You know,
- 10:37Speaker 3: he has the ability to loosen the change he trusts
- 10:40Speaker 3: him to make, you know, different plays, the line of scrimmage.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Whatever has happened is completely reinvigorated and then yeah, we
- 10:46Speaker 3: know what the defense brings. So for me, so far,
- 10:49Speaker 3: there's no complaints. I mean, we've had them sort of
- 10:51Speaker 3: slots with with the Cowboys, the loss and you know,
- 10:54Speaker 3: the coach loss, but how we've bounced back is just
- 10:56Speaker 3: a man in my opinion. I didn't say at the
- 10:59Speaker 3: start of season, but because I didn't want to, but
- 11:00Speaker 3: I believe we are genuine ship rugal banners with this offense.
- 11:05Speaker 1: You're really perking everybody up. For the next part of
- 11:06Speaker 1: this podcast, we're gonna hear from the special teams coordinator
- 11:09Speaker 1: this week. Usually hear from coach Tomlin, but we're gonna
- 11:12Speaker 1: actually give Coach Smith a bit of the limelight this week.
- 11:15Speaker 1: He's really been getting everybody fired up on the sideline,
- 11:18Speaker 1: which you just love to see. Last year from him
- 11:20Speaker 1: before we didn't talk a little bit more about that
- 11:21Speaker 1: quarterback situation and our hopes for the next few weeks
- 11:24Speaker 1: on the Irish Theaters podcast.
- 11:27Speaker 4: They should have happened sooner, but we've been working all
- 11:30Speaker 4: edit and so has he. And like I say, I
- 11:34Speaker 4: don't live by that close in this league because everything
- 11:36Speaker 4: is closing the NFL, he will people say you're close.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Everybody's close. But it was good to see he's a
- 11:43Speaker 4: good player and he's really developed as a returner, and
- 11:46Speaker 4: I'm happy for him and happy for the players. Man,
- 11:48Speaker 4: they did a good job on our play Corlos. We
- 11:50Speaker 4: wanted the decision to bring him back when you had
- 11:52Speaker 4: the jury that can and up woulds have been for you.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Bet there's a familiarity, you know, with people you've had before,
- 11:58Speaker 4: not that that's a determinate fire, but there's a familiarity
- 12:01Speaker 4: and and obviously in our situation with the kicker that
- 12:04Speaker 4: we have.
- 12:04Speaker 2: The hole is very important.
- 12:06Speaker 4: And uh, I believe we could teach a holder. You know,
- 12:09Speaker 4: we've done that over the time, and we've had some
- 12:11Speaker 4: guys that have some raps against them that have been
- 12:13Speaker 4: they're not good holders. And now we know how to
- 12:15Speaker 4: develop a holder, and we had developed him before and
- 12:19Speaker 4: everybody was comfortable comfortable with that.
- 12:21Speaker 2: So that's how I got invited back.
- 12:22Speaker 4: To be honest with you, he's uh, he's a real
- 12:27Speaker 4: pro and uh he won that competition when we had
- 12:30Speaker 4: all those punters in. The punter we played the other
- 12:33Speaker 4: night was one of those guys we had in. And
- 12:36Speaker 4: he's putting good, he really is. He's fighting pretty good.
- 12:38Speaker 4: He's putting better than he did in his workout. But uh,
- 12:41Speaker 4: Calvin won that workout. You know what, those punters and
- 12:44Speaker 4: the familiarity put us some little over the edge to
- 12:48Speaker 4: go make a decision to go with him.
- 12:50Speaker 2: With you, we're some of the younger guys that I
- 12:54Speaker 2: stepped up in the detailed to partment as far as
- 12:56Speaker 2: the teams and just the day to day simeon.
- 12:59Speaker 4: You know. Uh. And I don't like to use names,
- 13:01Speaker 4: and not that I'm hiding anything, but I forget somebody
- 13:04Speaker 4: and then then that guy's in my office, like why
- 13:06Speaker 4: do you mention me? Why do you do this? So
- 13:08Speaker 4: I try to stay away from the names of people
- 13:10Speaker 4: who are developing, people that are playing good, because God forbid,
- 13:14Speaker 4: you always miss one and you don't think that's important.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Of those guys and they're in my office and I
- 13:18Speaker 4: ain't got time to justify why I miss your name.
- 13:21Speaker 4: We have a good young set of guys that have
- 13:25Speaker 4: UH that have come off practice squad, that have been
- 13:28Speaker 4: here with us and just been inactive. And it's a
- 13:31Speaker 4: good solid group. UH. We're demanding UH and UH and
- 13:37Speaker 4: and I evaluate practice squad players in practice. I take
- 13:41Speaker 4: time to meet with them, UH and I review tape
- 13:44Speaker 4: with them.
- 13:45Speaker 1: UH.
- 13:45Speaker 4: There's an expectation and they have done a good job
- 13:48Speaker 4: of showing what we're gonna see on Sunday UH endgame.
- 13:52Speaker 4: You know, my job is to break all that down
- 13:54Speaker 4: and my job as a teacher to them draw cards,
- 13:56Speaker 4: do those things. So it's a process, it really is.
- 13:59Speaker 4: And that's been very transitional, and it always is on
- 14:03Speaker 4: all the teams. But that group has been a good group.
- 14:08Speaker 4: There's nobody that really stands out that's better. There's nobody
- 14:11Speaker 4: stand at that's a weak link. I commend our practice
- 14:15Speaker 4: squad for setting up what we do in game, and
- 14:20Speaker 4: I'm just demanding on them as well. They're just not
- 14:23Speaker 4: here because they're not playing on Sunday. I believe that
- 14:26Speaker 4: they're the preparers for Sunday's performance, and I give them
- 14:30Speaker 4: credit for that. They've done a good job.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Great to hear from coach Smith on the Irish Theaters podcast.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Michael Look, we had joined by Doabo McKee now Jimmy
- 14:41Speaker 1: this week, big shout out to GM's Dog who's listening
- 14:44Speaker 1: to this podcast. Don't know why I call them GM's
- 14:46Speaker 1: Dog is gonna kill me? Night on What's Top that
- 14:48Speaker 1: are on for that? Rolling all on the Irish Theaters
- 14:50Speaker 1: podcast going onto the bye week and I guess first off,
- 14:52Speaker 1: just a massive thanks to everybody that's listened to this
- 14:55Speaker 1: podcast interacted the Sears Ireland on social media in the
- 14:58Speaker 1: second year of the Seaters that are global Marcus Strategy
- 15:01Speaker 1: in Ireland and across the whole island of Ireland, which
- 15:04Speaker 1: is fantastic to see. David, Let's sort of go back
- 15:07Speaker 1: on a little thing which we talked about there a
- 15:08Speaker 1: few moments ago. You were talking about the implementation of
- 15:11Speaker 1: Russell Wilson into this offense and it is something where
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think it's very very important to talk about because
- 15:17Speaker 1: you're looking at a team that was frankly not doing
- 15:19Speaker 1: that bad record wise when Justin Fields was under center.
- 15:24Speaker 1: That takes guts to put in Russell Wilson, especially in
- 15:30Speaker 1: this situation that Justin Fields was in the leadership that
- 15:33Speaker 1: he was starting to develop in jailer, and I know
- 15:36Speaker 1: that Russell Wilson was not fully fit and he was
- 15:38Speaker 1: injured and he was trying to get back, and I
- 15:40Speaker 1: fully understand that he was, you know, such an important
- 15:43Speaker 1: piece and continues to be such such an important piece
- 15:46Speaker 1: of the Jake saw in that locker room. But I
- 15:49Speaker 1: still think it was very, very ballsy at the time.
- 15:55Speaker 1: It's funny becau Jimmy mentioned is the hour day. At
- 15:57Speaker 1: the time, I think to myself privately, I thought, is
- 16:00Speaker 1: this the right decision? And I think coach Tomland and
- 16:04Speaker 1: the guys have really showed everyone that it is like
- 16:06Speaker 1: to see a guy that we know how he played
- 16:09Speaker 1: in Seattle, but we also know how he struggled in
- 16:12Speaker 1: Denver across two seasons, and he's been given that opportunity
- 16:15Speaker 1: took him back in on the deal that he's currently in.
- 16:18Speaker 1: He's embraced this team, he's embraced this city. But also
- 16:22Speaker 1: I like to hope and think dvog as we get
- 16:25Speaker 1: closer to this trade deadline, that guys like Justin Fields
- 16:28Speaker 1: will be allowed to stay to learn to see exactly
- 16:32Speaker 1: how he can develop. And I certainly don't believe that
- 16:36Speaker 1: for a minute. And like that's going to be traded.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And this is just our opinions. They do not wreck,
- 16:40Speaker 1: they do not reflect the team. But I just hope
- 16:43Speaker 1: that Fields is given the time to develop because I've
- 16:46Speaker 1: been really impressive over the last few weeks especially, But
- 16:49Speaker 1: what a call from Tomlin and so far eight games
- 16:52Speaker 1: in Davog it's working.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Wonders absolutely megel just on Justin Fields. I mean, I
- 16:59Speaker 3: think he did match it in either last week's podcast
- 17:02Speaker 3: of the week before. He's handled this situation as professionally
- 17:06Speaker 3: as he possibly can. I mean to what he said,
- 17:08Speaker 3: he admitted himself even though for example, he was sitting
- 17:11Speaker 3: at four and two, he admitted himself, I'm not playing
- 17:14Speaker 3: well enough. And this is why this decision has been
- 17:16Speaker 3: taking place.
- 17:16Speaker 2: For me.
- 17:17Speaker 3: That shows the character of Justin I mean, he is
- 17:19Speaker 3: willing to sit back learn from a quarterback that's won
- 17:23Speaker 3: the Super Bowl. By the way, I mean, people do
- 17:24Speaker 3: seem to forget that. I mean, he's a super Bowl
- 17:26Speaker 3: winning quarterback. The way he's handled this move has been
- 17:30Speaker 3: completely It's been fantastic for us and it's only gonna
- 17:32Speaker 3: help the team. It just goes to show you that
- 17:34Speaker 3: the guys in the locker room really like Justin. I mean,
- 17:37Speaker 3: there's been no noise, there's been no sort of controversy
- 17:41Speaker 3: coming out. They all love him and that's great to see.
- 17:43Speaker 3: So just props to Justin for how he's handled it.
- 17:46Speaker 3: And of course he's still young, he's gonna learn, he's
- 17:48Speaker 3: gonna you know, he's proved that he is an NFL
- 17:50Speaker 3: starting quarterback. You know, there's absolutely no doubt about that.
- 17:53Speaker 3: But it just I think it just goes to show.
- 17:55Speaker 3: As coach Tomlin mangined, it's why we pay him the
- 17:58Speaker 3: big box. He's there to make the decisions, and he
- 18:01Speaker 3: made that decision. And let's be honest here, there was
- 18:03Speaker 3: probably two people in Pittsburgh that's fought that Russell Wilson
- 18:07Speaker 3: was going to be able to go in and make
- 18:09Speaker 3: this big of an impact. The first person, of course,
- 18:11Speaker 3: is Russell Wilson. The second person is coach Tomlin, and
- 18:14Speaker 3: that's exactly why they get paied the big box. So
- 18:16Speaker 3: I've been really impressed with how the whole situation has
- 18:19Speaker 3: been handled. But it's not really surprised because the Pittsburgh
- 18:21Speaker 3: Stailers are team and.
- 18:23Speaker 2: An organization that don't make noise.
- 18:25Speaker 3: And the reason we don't make noises because we know
- 18:27Speaker 3: how to win and that's exactly what we've done and
- 18:29Speaker 3: going forward, we're a team at the end of the day, Russell,
- 18:32Speaker 3: we've seen the images as well on the sideline, Russell
- 18:34Speaker 3: Wilson and Justin Vags laughing together.
- 18:36Speaker 2: We're a team and that's how we're going to continue
- 18:38Speaker 2: going on. So I'm absolutely buzzom with how it's worked
- 18:41Speaker 2: out and hopefully continues.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Just with that, trade deadline is four p sorry nine
- 18:47Speaker 1: pm Ireland UK time deadline next Tuesday. Who knows what
- 18:51Speaker 1: we're going to see and like, look, even if there's
- 18:55Speaker 1: been no activity over the next few days, it's still
- 18:57Speaker 1: a very very promising time for this team. I guess
- 19:00Speaker 1: the biggest question, just to wrap this little mini bye
- 19:02Speaker 1: week shot up, Dovog, is our expectations for this team.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Like the reality is at the time of recording, I
- 19:09Speaker 1: know this changes come Sunday, but at the time we're recording,
- 19:13Speaker 1: they're a game, they're well, the Chiefs are seven and
- 19:16Speaker 1: though there are a couple of games out from leading
- 19:18Speaker 1: the AFC, and you know you're looking at a situation
- 19:21Speaker 1: where the Chiefs are coming into Acrosur Stadium on Christmas Day,
- 19:25Speaker 1: in a bumper game. There's a lot of FC North talking,
- 19:28Speaker 1: a lot of FC North games coming up. We know that,
- 19:31Speaker 1: like even Joe Burrow himself has said that they have
- 19:33Speaker 1: to win out now or win seven and nine to
- 19:35Speaker 1: get to the playoffs. And I actually have to I
- 19:37Speaker 1: have to be fair to the Bengals, David. Some tough
- 19:40Speaker 1: matchups to start this season. It'll be interesting to see
- 19:42Speaker 1: how they do bounce back from that. So you know,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I guess my question to you is, and I'll give
- 19:50Speaker 1: my thoughts as well, what now six and two at
- 19:53Speaker 1: the buy constitutes this season that we expect from this team,
- 19:58Speaker 1: because for me, I'm starting to think, you know, if
- 20:02Speaker 1: you win the North, but maybe you don't get in
- 20:04Speaker 1: the top two in the AFC, depending on however teams do.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And again not for all we know, if Kansas City
- 20:11Speaker 1: hypathodically were to go on beating or to lose one
- 20:13Speaker 1: or two games, I can see a situation where Pittsburgh
- 20:17Speaker 1: or the number two or number three steed. But even
- 20:19Speaker 1: if they were the number three seed, you would expect
- 20:24Speaker 1: Divisionals last championship game run. I'm not going to sit
- 20:27Speaker 1: here because I think it will be unfair to the
- 20:29Speaker 1: players and the team to say I believe this team
- 20:33Speaker 1: will win this Bowl. I don't. Nobody knows, nobody can
- 20:36Speaker 1: tell the future. There's so many hot shot teams in
- 20:38Speaker 1: this league. In the NFC, you're seeing how good the
- 20:41Speaker 1: Lions are. There's so much talent across so many different teams.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I guess all we want is to be able to
- 20:46Speaker 1: have a situation in January where we're challenging and who
- 20:49Speaker 1: Knowstvogg maybe we could all be down in Dublin or
- 20:52Speaker 1: somewhere together watching the game in January, which really really
- 20:55Speaker 1: means something and could get to a certain level. What's
- 20:59Speaker 1: your expectation for this team?
- 21:00Speaker 4: Though?
- 21:02Speaker 3: It is difficult that we always said the words calm
- 21:05Speaker 3: the Jets, which basically means that every every time something
- 21:08Speaker 3: good happens, you have to sort of set back and
- 21:10Speaker 3: you know, take a breather. It's difficult to do that
- 21:12Speaker 3: now because we're coming off such a really impressive, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 3: stretch of games where we've showed a lot of you know, potential.
- 21:19Speaker 3: And I'm agree, I'm an agree with you. I'm not
- 21:21Speaker 3: going to sit here and say, oh, we're going to
- 21:23Speaker 3: win the Super Bowl. I mean, it's just not that easy.
- 21:25Speaker 3: We've got so many good teams in the way, the Chiefs,
- 21:28Speaker 3: the Lions, the Taxans. There's so many teams that can
- 21:31Speaker 3: win the Super Bowl. So I'm in agreement with you.
- 21:35Speaker 3: I believe if we get to January and we're in
- 21:37Speaker 3: playoff contention, I think we're going to be a team
- 21:39Speaker 3: to fair. I mean, there's absolutely no doubt about that.
- 21:41Speaker 3: There's going to be nobody looking down their noses at us.
- 21:45Speaker 3: But it is difficult, of course, because we're we're an
- 21:48Speaker 3: organization that we've won six Super Bowls. It's difficult for
- 21:50Speaker 3: us to turn around and say and I think a
- 21:52Speaker 3: borshiper Bowl of success.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But for me, yeah, I'm just going to enjoy the ride.
- 21:56Speaker 2: While I can't.
- 21:57Speaker 3: I mean, because we still have a long way to go,
- 21:59Speaker 3: we have them more difficult side of our schedule to come.
- 22:02Speaker 3: It's important that we do sit back and just look
- 22:04Speaker 3: at our schedule at the moment and say, look, there's
- 22:06Speaker 3: gonna be some losses in there. It just happens the NFL.
- 22:09Speaker 3: It's difficult to say, you know, we're gonna win every game.
- 22:11Speaker 3: But just the way that the past couple of weeks
- 22:14Speaker 3: have worked out, you know, the offense of efficiency you know,
- 22:17Speaker 3: not only but but i'd just like watch in the
- 22:19Speaker 3: past two weeks and I've seen a different dynamic to
- 22:21Speaker 3: the offense. You know, those deep ball can action with
- 22:23Speaker 3: George Pickins. We've seen some more of explosive floss plays.
- 22:27Speaker 3: The fact that that we're now seeing that and obviously
- 22:29Speaker 3: with our defense going forward as well, it's going to
- 22:31Speaker 3: be hard to stop us. So I'm in a bit,
- 22:33Speaker 3: I'm in sort of you know, in agreement with you.
- 22:35Speaker 3: You know, it's difficult to sit here and say we're
- 22:36Speaker 3: gonna win the Super Bowl, But for me, a postseason
- 22:39Speaker 3: berth is all we can expect now.
- 22:41Speaker 2: And you know, we're gonna take each game week by week.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Who knows that that Christmas Day game that could be
- 22:46Speaker 3: the first al for the Chiefs. I would love to
- 22:48Speaker 3: see it, but again, yeah, take it week by week,
- 22:51Speaker 3: get to the playoffs, and then we'll obviously sit back
- 22:53Speaker 3: and we'll we'll we'll sort of renew what our expectations
- 22:56Speaker 3: can be, if you like.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Super Bowl is in New Orleans this year. And it's
- 23:01Speaker 1: funny because as we wrap up this podcast, we have
- 23:04Speaker 1: barely mentioned if Anah in this defense. So it just
- 23:07Speaker 1: shows you how much time can change, and I feel
- 23:10Speaker 1: like I landed in the stag. I feel like, if
- 23:14Speaker 1: this is not a year where super Bowls won, you
- 23:17Speaker 1: want to see progress and you want to see that
- 23:19Speaker 1: thought to yourself, Well it wasn't this year, cann of
- 23:22Speaker 1: be next year. And I feel like we're getting in
- 23:24Speaker 1: that place now, which is really good. So please go.
- 23:27Speaker 1: All that continues thanks to yourself, thanks to Jimmy forevering
- 23:30Speaker 1: over the last few weeks. It's look enjoy yourself this weekend.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Everyone listening, folks, enjoy the bye week. Rest up, because
- 23:37Speaker 1: we've got one hell of a schedule coming up over
- 23:40Speaker 1: the next few weeks. We will tat to you soon.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Have a great bye week.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Here we go, Here we go. One
