- 2:03Speaker 6: that question at Kraken Audio Net. Areta Ocal for the
- 2:07Speaker 6: NHL on ESPN will be joining us in just a bit.
- 2:11Speaker 1: We're gonna be talking more about this Crack and run.
- 2:13Speaker 6: How much more damage did the Kraken due to the
- 2:16Speaker 6: Rangers after last night's game, and also what could be
- 2:20Speaker 6: in the mix if the Kraken want to go, look
- 2:22Speaker 6: for a big piece to add by trade deadline time,
- 2:25Speaker 6: Arta Ocal for the NHL on ESPN, joining us in
- 2:29Speaker 6: just a bit. The Kraken entering today four points back
- 2:33Speaker 6: of first place in the Pacific Division after a four
- 2:37Speaker 6: to two win last night over the New York Rangers.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Yet they are still two points clear of the cut
- 2:43Speaker 6: line in the West by the time they got out
- 2:46Speaker 6: of bed this morning in NYC. A gaming against New
- 2:50Speaker 6: Jersey coming up tomorrow which begins back to back, then
- 2:53Speaker 6: Boston on Thursday, and the road trip wrapping up this
- 2:57Speaker 6: Saturday against the Utah Man A lot to get to
- 3:01Speaker 6: crack in staging a four goal rally coming back to
- 3:05Speaker 6: beat the Rangers forward too, And did Madison Square Garden
- 3:09Speaker 6: turn from a party.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Into a morgue that quick?
- 3:13Speaker 6: Mike Benton Everett fits you, al Kaniski here all of
- 3:17Speaker 6: us together from NYC, yet on different microphones we're so close,
- 3:21Speaker 6: but get it feels kind of so far, fellas. But
- 3:24Speaker 6: this has been an amazing trip. I know I parachute
- 3:27Speaker 6: it in here for this one and we'll get to
- 3:28Speaker 6: Arta Okal on the Beacon Plumbing hotline because I can't
- 3:31Speaker 6: wait later on to ask him about this here, but
- 3:34Speaker 6: we had a brief talk. You know, it almost kind
- 3:36Speaker 6: of feels like that if you can make it from
- 3:38Speaker 6: point A to point B and about roughly forty five
- 3:41Speaker 6: minutes or less, you've aced to travel exam here in
- 3:45Speaker 6: New York City and maybe Everett you said this, I
- 3:48Speaker 6: set myself back, you know, flying in from JFK. But
- 3:51Speaker 6: you know what, if you have a game plan, you
- 3:53Speaker 6: can make it work. And I was pretty proud of
- 3:55Speaker 6: that though.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Well, Arda brought up a really good point. He goes,
- 3:59Speaker 3: when flying the New York the biggest thing is to
- 4:02Speaker 3: pick the right airport, because like that is hands down
- 4:08Speaker 3: like and that is so true as someone who my
- 4:11Speaker 3: in laws live, you know, not too far from from
- 4:15Speaker 3: Midtown where we are right now over in Jersey. And
- 4:19Speaker 3: if you're flying in the LaGuardia, oh brother, you're flying
- 4:22Speaker 3: in a new or too, JFK. I'm a Newark guy.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I'll fly in the Newark. But you gotta pick the
- 4:29Speaker 3: right airport otherwise you are up a creek with no paddle.
- 4:32Speaker 8: But not all airplanes fly into every airport, So you
- 4:35Speaker 8: got do that Sophie's choice thing, that do you want
- 4:38Speaker 8: your air miles. Do you want your preferential treatment and
- 4:42Speaker 8: our plus commute to the hotel you're going to, or
- 4:45Speaker 8: do you want the convenient commute, not the air miles.
- 4:47Speaker 3: That's the best thing about Alaska Airlines. There's one gate.
- 4:50Speaker 3: There's one Alaska gate at Newark, and all the Seattle
- 4:54Speaker 3: flights flying to the same gate. I got my pizza slice,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I got a really good lobster roll placed right by
- 5:03Speaker 3: there as well. It's the same gate. I know where
- 5:05Speaker 3: I'm going. It's awesome.
- 5:07Speaker 6: This has been an amazing town so far to enjoy
- 5:09Speaker 6: because you have a little bit of everything. We've done
- 5:11Speaker 6: the New York slash already and there's more to come
- 5:13Speaker 6: once we get done here with this show. But tomorrow
- 5:17Speaker 6: night is New Jersey and the Crack and come off
- 5:18Speaker 6: a win where they finally get back on the tracks
- 5:20Speaker 6: after an ot loss against Minnesota and a loss at
- 5:24Speaker 6: Carolina which they could have maybe I think easily avoided
- 5:27Speaker 6: with a few tweaks in period three. But then you
- 5:30Speaker 6: bounce back after going down to nothing to the Rangers
- 5:33Speaker 6: last night. Guys, I think this recent three game stretch
- 5:37Speaker 6: taught us more about how much this team is kind
- 5:40Speaker 6: of like an eighteen wheeler getting out of the driveway.
- 5:44Speaker 6: They're a bit slow, but then when they get ramped up,
- 5:47Speaker 6: get out of the way and look out. Especially period
- 5:51Speaker 6: two in period three, I thought last night second period
- 5:54Speaker 6: adjustments told us a lot, and they got rolling and
- 5:58Speaker 6: there was virtually no stop in them.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we talked about that, Mike.
- 6:03Speaker 8: But at the end of the first period, is that
- 6:05Speaker 8: I would I was really interested to see what adjustments
- 6:08Speaker 8: were going to be made because the second period is
- 6:10Speaker 8: typically has been typically not great for you for this team,
- 6:14Speaker 8: and going down to nothing, you weren't looking to turn
- 6:17Speaker 8: into four nothing in that second period. So the adjustments
- 6:20Speaker 8: they made actually absolutely paid off, and then they came
- 6:22Speaker 8: out of that second period tide that.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Was the Rangers game was one of those games where
- 6:28Speaker 3: historically you're down to nothing, and I've talked to a
- 6:31Speaker 3: few players about this type of thing. You're down to
- 6:34Speaker 3: nothing a couple of years ago, that would have been
- 6:36Speaker 3: for nothing pretty quick. But they were able to stem
- 6:39Speaker 3: the tide. And the overall theme for me of the
- 6:44Speaker 3: Rangers game was going to be that bounce back. You
- 6:47Speaker 3: had the overtime against the Wild, you had the loss
- 6:50Speaker 3: in Carolina game, that. You're right, Mikey, you should have won.
- 6:53Speaker 3: They could have won that game. They played well enough
- 6:55Speaker 3: in Carolina to get at least a point, but they didn't.
- 7:00Speaker 3: So the bounce back was going to be huge, and
- 7:03Speaker 3: me and JT talked about that as well. How are
- 7:05Speaker 3: they going to respond? What type of game do they need?
- 7:08Speaker 3: And you know, the Rangers did the same thing against
- 7:12Speaker 3: Buffalo a couple of games ago. Before the ten to
- 7:16Speaker 3: two drubbing in Boston. They looked good, They hit everything
- 7:20Speaker 3: that moved, They were able to set the tone early
- 7:23Speaker 3: and then they were like, well, all right, we're done,
- 7:25Speaker 3: pack it up. And it looked like they did the
- 7:28Speaker 3: same thing against the Cracking They played probably some of
- 7:31Speaker 3: the best hockey that we've seen against Seattle in recent games,
- 7:36Speaker 3: and then the Kraken woke up in the second period
- 7:38Speaker 3: and then the third period and got the win.
- 7:40Speaker 6: Do you think good starts are overrated now? Or is
- 7:43Speaker 6: this only like a dangerous sign of hey, you can't
- 7:46Speaker 6: keep doing this over and over and over.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Well, I mean you can. I just don't think it's
- 7:51Speaker 5: a recipe for success.
- 7:52Speaker 8: I think that that good starts are you know, reflective
- 7:56Speaker 8: of the team's preparation. I think that good starts get
- 7:59Speaker 8: more momentum going that can carry through the rest of
- 8:01Speaker 8: the game. Might only carry it for a few shifts,
- 8:03Speaker 8: but grabbing that momentum, especially on the road, so important.
- 8:07Speaker 8: At home, you know, if you don't have a good start,
- 8:08Speaker 8: maybe the crowd can help get you into it, but
- 8:10Speaker 8: in the road, you take that crowd out of it
- 8:12Speaker 8: by getting that first goal. Having a great start, it's
- 8:14Speaker 8: absolutely the recipe to success.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I think having to consistently come from behind, if you
- 8:21Speaker 3: do it enough times, potentially could lead to a little
- 8:26Speaker 3: bit of complacency. Right Like you're saying to yourself, oh,
- 8:29Speaker 3: all right, we got this, no big deal, and then
- 8:31Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you're playing Colorado, or you're playing Dallas,
- 8:35Speaker 3: or you're playing whoever. Right, I'm without I mean, you
- 8:39Speaker 3: need to show up ready to work. You have to
- 8:41Speaker 3: start on time, especially in this league, because any team
- 8:45Speaker 3: that doesn't matter. If you're Vancouver at the bottom of
- 8:48Speaker 3: the standings, you're still in the National Hockey League. You're
- 8:51Speaker 3: still one of the best players in the world, and
- 8:53Speaker 3: these teams will find your holes and exploit them. So
- 8:57Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 8:58Speaker 9: You got to start on time every I think the
- 9:01Speaker 9: one caveat I would say to that is that you know,
- 9:05Speaker 9: when you do come back from being down and you
- 9:07Speaker 9: end up winning, First of all, it's an entertaining game.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Fortune for that team. Number one.
- 9:12Speaker 8: Number two is that I you know, I wouldn't want
- 9:15Speaker 8: to go into the playoffs with my team having not
- 9:19Speaker 8: done that a few times over the season, because I
- 9:21Speaker 8: guarantee you, if you're in the playoffs, you're going to
- 9:23Speaker 8: be down a goal or two. And if you don't
- 9:24Speaker 8: have that resilience, that belief that we can come back
- 9:28Speaker 8: from this because you've done it a half dozen times
- 9:30Speaker 8: throughout the season, you're in trouble. So I like that
- 9:33Speaker 8: they can tick that box to say, hey, we can
- 9:35Speaker 8: come back from being down to nothing.
- 9:37Speaker 5: But you don't want to start every game like that.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Krack And became the first team to hand the Rangers
- 9:41Speaker 6: a loss of any kind after the Rangers led after
- 9:44Speaker 6: one period of play, and it was just the third
- 9:48Speaker 6: win in sixteen tries for the Kraken when they trailed
- 9:52Speaker 6: after one period last evening, meshes certainly tell you something.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Berkeley Catton got the game winning goal and it was
- 9:58Speaker 6: a thing and maybe of a dispute debate because you know,
- 10:01Speaker 6: as Lane Lambert said, it was almost kind of like
- 10:03Speaker 6: a sword fight him Shane Wright trying to poke that
- 10:06Speaker 6: puck in from the crease. But I think that the
- 10:09Speaker 6: conversation surrounds Bertley Catton now with the fact that his
- 10:14Speaker 6: effort is now being rewarded with production. He got his
- 10:17Speaker 6: first NHL goal last week against Boston. He had a
- 10:22Speaker 6: goal scorers type of goal, if you want to use
- 10:24Speaker 6: that phrase, against the Carolina Hurricanes, and it came at
- 10:27Speaker 6: a high leverage moment moment back in period three, and
- 10:30Speaker 6: then the goal last night. He's already got four now
- 10:33Speaker 6: on the board and what feels like short orders since
- 10:35Speaker 6: that Boston game. Do you think this moves the needle
- 10:39Speaker 6: more for him and maybe even further up the lineup
- 10:43Speaker 6: or is he in the right spot where he has
- 10:44Speaker 6: to be here with Shane Wright and Jerem mccannon.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I just want to go on record again and say
- 10:49Speaker 3: that I called this. I said that once Bertley Catton
- 10:54Speaker 3: scores his first, he's going to get the next handful
- 10:58Speaker 3: in pretty short order. I'll let you, boy, I think
- 11:03Speaker 3: that Bertlee Catton right now is in the perfect spot
- 11:09Speaker 3: in the lineup. He's playing with Shane Wright. You've got
- 11:11Speaker 3: two younger skilled guys there. You've got Jared mccannon, who
- 11:17Speaker 3: can clean up the garbage if you will. He's got
- 11:20Speaker 3: the shot. There's a little bit of everything on that line.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And also you get to hide him a little bit
- 11:26Speaker 3: down your lineup. You don't have to give him the
- 11:29Speaker 3: top matchups, you don't have to put him out against
- 11:32Speaker 3: the tough assignments on a nightly basis. So I love
- 11:38Speaker 3: where he is in the lineup. I love the game
- 11:40Speaker 3: that he's playing right now. We said it last week.
- 11:43Speaker 3: His confidence is continuing to grow. He's taking more risks offensively,
- 11:49Speaker 3: which I love. He's finding ways to generate scoring chances.
- 11:53Speaker 3: You're seeing some pure goal scorer moves, pure skill talent
- 12:02Speaker 3: out of him, and I think where he is with
- 12:04Speaker 3: mccannon right is the perfect spot. I think he's going
- 12:08Speaker 3: to continue having success and then maybe down the road
- 12:11Speaker 3: depending on what happens when you start getting pieces back.
- 12:15Speaker 3: It sounds like Chandler Stevenson is on the ground here
- 12:18Speaker 3: somewhere in New York and may join the team either
- 12:22Speaker 3: against Jersey or or Boston. But depending on when and
- 12:27Speaker 3: who comes back, you'll make that decision. But for right,
- 12:30Speaker 3: now I would not touch Berkeley Catton at all.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Yeah, two things for me, and number one, that goal
- 12:36Speaker 5: against the Rangers. You know, right place.
- 12:39Speaker 8: First of all, you know, the goal scorers got to
- 12:41Speaker 8: be in the right place to receive a pass. He
- 12:43Speaker 8: was in the right place. Number two, you know, yeah,
- 12:45Speaker 8: everybody's smacking in a puck and last stick to touch
- 12:48Speaker 8: it is the one that gets credit. Turns out it
- 12:49Speaker 8: was that Berkeley was Berkeley Catton stick that touched it
- 12:52Speaker 8: before it went in, so he gets credit for the goal.
- 12:55Speaker 8: I also think that maybe it's later this year, maybe
- 12:59Speaker 8: it's really in the next year.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 13:01Speaker 8: You know, based on development, they'll come a time where
- 13:04Speaker 8: he receives a puck like that and it gets roofed
- 13:06Speaker 8: under the bar, like just hands down, receives the puck,
- 13:10Speaker 8: I thought last night in that game against the Rangers,
- 13:13Speaker 8: and he hesitated a little bit receiving that puck, almost
- 13:16Speaker 8: surprised to get it. Yeah, it took him a second
- 13:18Speaker 8: to get back on net, even though it.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Was it was simply a tap in.
- 13:22Speaker 8: And I just think that's that's the evolution of his
- 13:24Speaker 8: game and it will get better there.
- 13:25Speaker 5: So good marks on him.
- 13:27Speaker 8: The second thing is and put this under stats that
- 13:31Speaker 8: are fun to talk about but are really not that relevant.
- 13:35Speaker 8: The one I liked from going into the game yesterday
- 13:37Speaker 8: was talking about how long it took him to get
- 13:40Speaker 8: to get his first goal at Berkeley Catton and it
- 13:42Speaker 8: said no players selected in either of the last two
- 13:45Speaker 8: NHL drafts has more goals in calendar year twenty twenty
- 13:50Speaker 8: six than Berkeley Catten.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Boys. We're twelve days into the year.
- 13:57Speaker 6: No small sample size, but you know, if it's the
- 14:00Speaker 6: narrative though, so I'll share the story.
- 14:05Speaker 5: I'll share that stat here. I was not prepared to
- 14:07Speaker 5: share that stat on the broadcast.
- 14:08Speaker 8: But he adds one more goal to that total, so
- 14:11Speaker 8: I assume he still retains that that title.
- 14:15Speaker 1: This is called the stat dump on Cracking Weekly.
- 14:19Speaker 6: This is called our stat dump here, and we can
- 14:20Speaker 6: easily find a sponsor for this if we want.
- 14:22Speaker 1: To go ahead and go down that road.
- 14:24Speaker 6: But that was a thing of beauty to read, uh,
- 14:26Speaker 6: just the other day. But hey, Berkeley cat and getting
- 14:28Speaker 6: goals now by the bunch is it kind of feels
- 14:30Speaker 6: like and he's got four goals now in four games.
- 14:32Speaker 6: So ever, and again you called it, I'll give you your.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Props on this.
- 14:36Speaker 6: You said, just get one and then watch the floodgates
- 14:38Speaker 6: open here and the cracking can certainly use that kind
- 14:41Speaker 6: of production rolling into New Jersey.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Then Boston and then Utah.
- 14:46Speaker 6: As you mentioned as well, Everett Chandler, Stevenson of course
- 14:49Speaker 6: activated Oscar Fisker Muleguard sent back to Coachella Valley. So
- 14:54Speaker 6: we're gonna see a little bit more movement here in
- 14:55Speaker 6: the lineup. And I think again, this is where you
- 14:57Speaker 6: kind of give Freddie Gudrouz some unsung here real props
- 15:00Speaker 6: for filling in.
- 15:01Speaker 1: That's not an easy assignment.
- 15:03Speaker 6: And this is kind of the reason why they got him,
- 15:05Speaker 6: was that jack of all trades type of brand that
- 15:07Speaker 6: he brings here to this team. And I think maybe
- 15:10Speaker 6: potentially you see him ship back now to the wing
- 15:12Speaker 6: with Stevenson back in the mix, assuming he's in here
- 15:15Speaker 6: for New Jersey. But here's the bigger question, what happens
- 15:20Speaker 6: next here with Brandon Montour back after we saw him
- 15:23Speaker 6: in a red non contact jersey at Madison Square Garden.
- 15:26Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, ty Karcha was a healthy scratch again
- 15:31Speaker 8: in the Ranger game. If I'm a Betty Man, I
- 15:34Speaker 8: wouldn't be surprised if it's ty Krtsche that gets pushed
- 15:37Speaker 8: down to Coachella. You know, he's done a lot for
- 15:40Speaker 8: the team. But I think that, as I've mentioned before,
- 15:43Speaker 8: Jacob Molanston has been competing for a role on this team,
- 15:47Speaker 8: on that fourth line, and you know he's he's been
- 15:50Speaker 8: doing what's what's been expected of him.
- 15:53Speaker 5: So if I had to bet, that would be my bet.
- 15:55Speaker 5: But we'll see.
- 15:56Speaker 8: But something that absolutely does have to happen because Stevehnson
- 16:00Speaker 8: is coming back into the lineup, Montor is coming back
- 16:03Speaker 8: into the lineup, and obviously changes need to be made.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, this is annoying, right, I mean, I can't even
- 16:12Speaker 3: give you an answer because this team misses so much
- 16:17Speaker 3: with Montor out of the lineup and Stevenson out of
- 16:20Speaker 3: the lineup. But the way that they're playing right now,
- 16:24Speaker 3: you know, you don't want to upset that proverbial apple cart,
- 16:27Speaker 3: but you can't even keep everyone on the roster because
- 16:30Speaker 3: you're going to be at your roster limit. You got
- 16:31Speaker 3: twenty three guys, so they come back, you're at twenty four. Yeah,
- 16:36Speaker 3: it's it's gonna be a challenge. I don't envy ron
- 16:40Speaker 3: or Box or Lane I don't envy that management staff
- 16:44Speaker 3: because everyone in the lineup has been doing their part.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Everyone in the lineup has been doing what's been asked
- 16:52Speaker 3: of them. But yeah, I don't. I can't answer that
- 16:56Speaker 3: question because you know, I can make an argument for
- 17:00Speaker 3: four guys to come out of the lineup, but then
- 17:01Speaker 3: I'm like, well, you lose this, well, you lose that. Well.
- 17:04Speaker 3: They had a really good last couple of games, so
- 17:07Speaker 3: to quote, you know, one of my first loves of
- 17:10Speaker 3: my life, Danny Jackson, What have you done for me lately?
- 17:12Speaker 3: And lately they they've been doing well. So it's gonna
- 17:17Speaker 3: be hard. I can't answer that question right now.
- 17:21Speaker 1: But yeah, I think about it. What what parts when? When?
- 17:24Speaker 6: When when when you kind of consider, you know, you
- 17:26Speaker 6: don't want to upset the Apple cards, so to speak.
- 17:29Speaker 6: What parts of this team's game are sustainable? I think
- 17:32Speaker 6: for the long haul, and what part do you want
- 17:34Speaker 6: to see? Maybe I think tweet to make everything sustainable
- 17:39Speaker 6: moving into post Olympic period, March trade deadline, and then
- 17:44Speaker 6: even to April, because man at the crack and can
- 17:46Speaker 6: play meaningful games in April.
- 17:49Speaker 1: They're in business in more ways than one.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Well, I think for me, the fourth line. I mean,
- 17:54Speaker 3: it's again I understand you have to with with Stevenson
- 17:59Speaker 3: coming back in the lineup. I would not touch that
- 18:01Speaker 3: fourth line until they gave me a reason to and
- 18:04Speaker 3: the last handful of games that fourth line has not
- 18:07Speaker 3: given me a reason to break it up. Right. I
- 18:10Speaker 3: like the McCann line with Caton and Right, I think
- 18:15Speaker 3: they're starting to build something there. I don't want to
- 18:19Speaker 3: touch that line either, But again, with Stevenson coming back in,
- 18:22Speaker 3: you're probably gonna have to move some things around. But
- 18:25Speaker 3: I think the sustainable for me is the identity that
- 18:30Speaker 3: this team has brought the last few games. But the
- 18:34Speaker 3: last couple of games have also exposed an issue that
- 18:38Speaker 3: you don't really have without Steve with Stevenson and Everly
- 18:42Speaker 3: in the lineup, and that's puck management. Right. There's been
- 18:45Speaker 3: far too many turnovers the last couple of games. Chandler,
- 18:48Speaker 3: Stevenson's not given that puck away, Jordan Everly's not given
- 18:51Speaker 3: the puck away. So you get Ebs back against the Rangers.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Stevenson presumably will be back against the Devils, So I
- 18:57Speaker 3: think you're gonna see those giveaways and those and overs
- 19:01Speaker 3: tightened up a little bit so that's where you get
- 19:05Speaker 3: better with Stevenson, in addition to his skating ability and
- 19:09Speaker 3: his power play and the way that he controls the puck.
- 19:12Speaker 3: But those are the areas that you want to see.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Staying long term is limiting those turnovers. But you know,
- 19:17Speaker 3: again it goes back to the question who comes out.
- 19:20Speaker 3: I don't know, Jim, it's hard. I don't know. I
- 19:23Speaker 3: don't know.
- 19:24Speaker 8: Yeah, no, what you asked about to what you'd like
- 19:26Speaker 8: to see change. I think we talked about some of
- 19:29Speaker 8: them already. Better starts, more consistent, better better starts. That's
- 19:32Speaker 8: number one. Number two, the PK has to get better.
- 19:36Speaker 8: I don't think a team that's at the bottom of
- 19:39Speaker 8: the league with the PK is going to have success
- 19:42Speaker 8: in in you know, the latter half of the year.
- 19:44Speaker 8: Certainly it matters in the playoffs as well, so that
- 19:46Speaker 8: PK has to get better. I think what needs to
- 19:49Speaker 8: stay consistent is goaltending. With with this goaltending trio, if
- 19:53Speaker 8: they can keep games at two goals against or less,
- 19:57Speaker 8: every single game is an opportunity for team to win.
- 20:00Speaker 5: So that has to stay consistent. But those are the
- 20:02Speaker 5: three things I wanted to.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Mention Mike before we pause.
- 20:06Speaker 6: How much is this Eastern Conference road trip going to
- 20:10Speaker 6: matter for the ultimate meaning of this season and in
- 20:14Speaker 6: this playoff race.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be huge because it's not an
- 20:20Speaker 3: easy road trip. You go Minnesota, fly Carolina. You know
- 20:26Speaker 3: you don't get the extra day off. You're going through
- 20:29Speaker 3: the cities against two really strong, you know teams in
- 20:37Speaker 3: the Rangers and Devils. From a from a desperation standpoint,
- 20:41Speaker 3: you know they need these wins because their season are
- 20:44Speaker 3: slowly is tripping away. And then you go to Boston,
- 20:46Speaker 3: a team that you beat last week, but they're coming
- 20:49Speaker 3: off of a ten goal output a couple of games ago.
- 20:52Speaker 3: And then you pick up Utah on the way back,
- 20:54Speaker 3: a team that you've only played twice ever in their building,
- 20:58Speaker 3: but you've struggled in that building for a Saturday afternoon game.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I think this is going to be a tough trip logistically,
- 21:05Speaker 3: but if the Kraken can come through this trip, you
- 21:09Speaker 3: know you're one in one so far. You find a
- 21:12Speaker 3: way to mentally get two more wins and maybe go
- 21:15Speaker 3: three zero or three one and one on this trip.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I think that's going to really tell a lot about
- 21:22Speaker 3: this team and what they're able to do when facing
- 21:25Speaker 3: a little bit of adversity like the schedule has been
- 21:28Speaker 3: presenting so far this month.
- 21:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I think you're coming into the road trip, you know,
- 21:32Speaker 8: five games, ten points in the table. You know, I'd
- 21:35Speaker 8: like to see eight, but I think seven or eight
- 21:37Speaker 8: points out of it is a successful road trip. You know,
- 21:40Speaker 8: you give up that first one in Carolina, and I
- 21:42Speaker 8: think that you know, if you got to lose one,
- 21:44Speaker 8: that's probably the one you know, you get you got
- 21:46Speaker 8: to lose. Then you come back to New York and
- 21:50Speaker 8: go down to nothing and get a great comeback win.
- 21:53Speaker 8: And I think that sets the stage for the remaining
- 21:55Speaker 8: three games of the road trip, because as the as
- 21:58Speaker 8: the man said, if you can do it here, you
- 21:59Speaker 8: can do it anywhere. And why not go on a
- 22:04Speaker 8: three game heater for the rest of this trip and
- 22:06Speaker 8: pull four more or three more wins in it and
- 22:09Speaker 8: come home for.
- 22:09Speaker 6: One and oh the effects of last night names that
- 22:12Speaker 6: could be out there and much more. We're gonna talk
- 22:15Speaker 6: about that with Arta Ocal for the NHL on ESPN
- 22:19Speaker 6: right after this right here on Cracking Weekly on ninety
- 22:22Speaker 6: three three KJRFM, only one point ahead of both Henderson
- 22:29Speaker 6: and Tucson. They opened up a two game series this
- 22:33Speaker 6: evening in Texas. Jagger Ferkus as you're leading scorer thirty
- 22:36Speaker 6: four points right now. He leads the Firebirds Logan Morrison,
- 22:40Speaker 6: pacing them in the goal scoring category with seventeen this season.
- 22:45Speaker 1: All right, let's get.
- 22:45Speaker 6: Down to the Beacon Plumbing hotline as Arta Ocal joining
- 22:48Speaker 6: us here from the NHL on ESPN, and areta you
- 22:53Speaker 6: being not too far away from here. Bristol's not too
- 22:56Speaker 6: far a little bit north of us. There's one thing
- 22:58Speaker 6: at least this West coast right here, and me takes
- 23:01Speaker 6: pride in it, is that it's getting from point A
- 23:03Speaker 6: to point B and what can be the busiest city
- 23:06Speaker 6: in America. So I mean you go ahead and be
- 23:09Speaker 6: the judge here on this one. You know, you pick
- 23:12Speaker 6: the airport and we can talk about this, and I
- 23:14Speaker 6: picked JFK to fly into. But then you go right
- 23:18Speaker 6: from the AirTrain to Long Island Railroad, out of Penn Station,
- 23:22Speaker 6: boom into the hotel room in forty minutes. I make
- 23:26Speaker 6: the great how you doing, Bud?
- 23:27Speaker 10: Forty minutes? That's like MVP level we should be handing you.
- 23:31Speaker 10: That's that's a hard jeffee. That's a heart trophy.
- 23:35Speaker 3: And he did it off foot too. He left that out.
- 23:37Speaker 3: He walked from JFK down here.
- 23:39Speaker 2: To Oh, come on, that's unbelievable. That's that's impressive.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Man.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That's Hall of Fame numbers right there.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Uh.
- 23:46Speaker 10: Picking the right airport is the big one, right, I
- 23:49Speaker 10: mean depending on.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Where you live.
- 23:51Speaker 10: If you can see, like I've become a softy at
- 23:54Speaker 10: my old age, especially when I take the kids to
- 23:57Speaker 10: like Disney World.
- 23:58Speaker 2: The first place I'm looking.
- 23:59Speaker 10: At is Westchester Airport, like I want to try to
- 24:02Speaker 10: avoid the NYC airports at all costs, and especially people
- 24:06Speaker 10: at ESPN because Bristol is like twenty minutes away from Hartford.
- 24:10Speaker 10: The first airport they're checking is Bradley because and a
- 24:15Speaker 10: lot of people would prefer to take it. You guys
- 24:17Speaker 10: can relate to this because you travel all the time.
- 24:19Speaker 10: They would they would rather take the connection right, like
- 24:23Speaker 10: a one stop to avoid the mass hysteria of a giant,
- 24:28Speaker 10: busy airport then to have to go to a LaGuardia
- 24:32Speaker 10: or JFK even for a non stop.
- 24:35Speaker 6: Yeah see, I set myself back a bit because I
- 24:37Speaker 6: parachute it in on this trip, So me making my
- 24:40Speaker 6: pick didn't know the difference and said, eh, JFK, why not.
- 24:44Speaker 6: But I kind of made up for it and kind
- 24:46Speaker 6: of got past the adventures. So anyway, went on the
- 24:49Speaker 6: book for that one. Let's get out of the hockey
- 24:51Speaker 6: side of things here at first. Off, my man, what
- 24:54Speaker 6: surprised you the most about this NHL season so far?
- 24:59Speaker 10: The parody the Eastern Coman parody shouldn't be a surprise
- 25:02Speaker 10: to any of us, but the Eastern Conference. I was
- 25:04Speaker 10: looking at this around American Thanksgiving. I know, we love
- 25:07Speaker 10: to do that whole oh if they're in a playoff spot,
- 25:09Speaker 10: the whole statistics about that fourth Thursday in November. But
- 25:14Speaker 10: in the Eastern Conference there was only nine points separating
- 25:17Speaker 10: first to last in that conference, and it's never in
- 25:20Speaker 10: the last ten years, by my research, it's never been
- 25:23Speaker 10: that tight.
- 25:24Speaker 2: So any playoff spot is up for grabs.
- 25:27Speaker 10: Look no further than I mean, we will talk about
- 25:29Speaker 10: Seattle in a second. They're on a hot streak, but
- 25:31Speaker 10: like Buffalo on a similar streak, Tampa on a ten
- 25:34Speaker 10: game win streak, like your one solid wind streak away
- 25:39Speaker 10: from firmly putting yourself back into playoff contention. So the
- 25:42Speaker 10: East is certainly a challenge, is a big surprise. This
- 25:46Speaker 10: is also not a big surprise, but the central like
- 25:49Speaker 10: the top three, the argument and I'd love to hear
- 25:54Speaker 10: your thoughts on this too, like the argument for the
- 25:57Speaker 10: one to sixteen or the one to eight changing the
- 26:00Speaker 10: playoff format. I know this happens every year, but looking
- 26:03Speaker 10: at the abs and the stars in the wild, I
- 26:06Speaker 10: feel like this year it's going to gain the most
- 26:09Speaker 10: traction for people to really call for because one of
- 26:12Speaker 10: those three teams is going to be out in the
- 26:14Speaker 10: first round. Two of those three teams are going to
- 26:16Speaker 10: be out in the second round. So it's almost like
- 26:18Speaker 10: all of those combinations. Everett can be Western Conference Finals,
- 26:23Speaker 10: and they did.
- 26:24Speaker 3: They did this because they wanted to save on travel,
- 26:27Speaker 3: right I remember when this was going on, they were like, hey,
- 26:31Speaker 3: it's not fair. So right now, looking at the West,
- 26:34Speaker 3: you've got Colorado, Los Angeles, Dallas, San Jose, Minnesota, Seattle, Vegas,
- 26:42Speaker 3: Edmonton in the first round. If you went one through eight.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I like all of those matchups, and I would love
- 26:49Speaker 3: to go back to one through eight. I also want
- 26:50Speaker 3: to go back to white jerseys at home, but we'll
- 26:52Speaker 3: talk about that later. I or at least do what
- 26:55Speaker 3: the ETCHL or the AHL does and do the mid
- 26:58Speaker 3: season swaps. Right at game forty two, you go, you
- 27:02Speaker 3: switch from darks and homes to whites and homes. But anyway,
- 27:06Speaker 3: I would love to go back one through eight. The
- 27:08Speaker 3: way that these guys travel now, I mean, unless you're
- 27:12Speaker 3: doing when Detroit was in the East, what was it
- 27:15Speaker 3: the Four Cup? I think the Red Wings had to
- 27:18Speaker 3: go through Calgary, San Jose and Anaheim or something like
- 27:22Speaker 3: that on their run to the final. So yeah, that's
- 27:25Speaker 3: a little bit hilacious. But I think now, unless you're
- 27:28Speaker 3: doing a Chicago Anaheim or a Chicago Vancouver, I got
- 27:32Speaker 3: no problem with going one through eight because you're right,
- 27:34Speaker 3: you're losing a lot of potentially really good matchups later
- 27:39Speaker 3: in the playoffs.
- 27:40Speaker 1: So far, the.
- 27:40Speaker 6: Crack and nine to one and two last twelve games
- 27:43Speaker 6: are to this has been a turnaround that is has
- 27:47Speaker 6: begun to grab a lot more attention. Yeah, the goaltending reasons,
- 27:50Speaker 6: you have, power play reasons, you have more stability, and
- 27:54Speaker 6: the lineup reasons here, especially upfront. But how far have
- 27:59Speaker 6: the Crack and I think to you come to be
- 28:01Speaker 6: a serious contender for a playoff spot at this point?
- 28:05Speaker 3: Oh?
- 28:05Speaker 2: Very serious?
- 28:06Speaker 10: I mean from my twenty thousand foot view. Obviously to
- 28:09Speaker 10: the listeners, I'm not as dialed in as you might
- 28:12Speaker 10: and you Everett on a day to day basis with
- 28:15Speaker 10: the team. But I mean, even I'm looking at the
- 28:18Speaker 10: team stats right now, like I'm not being rude when
- 28:21Speaker 10: I say this, but this doesn't look like a team
- 28:23Speaker 10: that's third in the Pacific When I'm looking at their
- 28:26Speaker 10: point totals right they're among the lowest scoring teams in
- 28:29Speaker 10: the league. But also on this win streak, they've allowed
- 28:33Speaker 10: among the lowest goals per game. And Philip Grubauer has
- 28:38Speaker 10: been incredible in this stretch.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I was looking this up.
- 28:42Speaker 10: In eight of his last nine games, he's posted north
- 28:44Speaker 10: of nine hundred save percentage and his say percentage is incredible.
- 28:48Speaker 10: They're getting that depth contributions even though it's not like
- 28:53Speaker 10: high volume numbers.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Like, don't compare their numbers to Colorado.
- 28:57Speaker 10: I don't think any team should compare their numbers to Colorado,
- 28:59Speaker 10: but particularly Seattle here.
- 29:00Speaker 6: Like they are from a different planet.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Man.
- 29:04Speaker 10: Yeah, they really are, Like they they're a whole conversation
- 29:08Speaker 10: onto themselves.
- 29:09Speaker 2: But in terms of Seattle, like the Western Conference certainly.
- 29:13Speaker 10: Has a gap between the good teams and the not
- 29:17Speaker 10: so good teams, and that's starting to form even more
- 29:20Speaker 10: as the season progresses, unlike the Eastern Conference, and so
- 29:24Speaker 10: I feel like Seattle has really made a case for
- 29:27Speaker 10: themselves to be a playoff contending team, which is very
- 29:31Speaker 10: encouraging to see because we're what year where you're four
- 29:35Speaker 10: now with the Krakens, so five year five, So this
- 29:38Speaker 10: would be a great year to you know, revisit that
- 29:42Speaker 10: one magical playoff win against the Avalanche right in Game seven,
- 29:47Speaker 10: So it would be it would be nice to see
- 29:49Speaker 10: Seattle back in the postseason.
- 29:51Speaker 3: There are a lot of people when Ley Lambert was
- 29:53Speaker 3: hired that, you know, kind of raise their eyebrow about
- 29:57Speaker 3: the hiring the defensive coach, the guy that even though
- 30:00Speaker 3: we made the playoffs on Long Island, you know, a
- 30:04Speaker 3: lot of folks didn't didn't like this higher. But now
- 30:07Speaker 3: I think are starting to eat their words a little bit.
- 30:09Speaker 3: When you saw the hiring of Lane Lambert, what was
- 30:12Speaker 3: your first thought, and just from again your twenty thousand
- 30:17Speaker 3: foot view, how have you felt about the job that
- 30:19Speaker 3: he's done coaching this team given the pieces that they have.
- 30:23Speaker 10: So that was the defensive minded structure, was the first
- 30:26Speaker 10: thing I thought of, now you tell me, you correct
- 30:29Speaker 10: me if I'm wrong here.
- 30:30Speaker 2: When I was watching cracking.
- 30:31Speaker 10: Games before Lane Lambert, it felt like the team was
- 30:35Speaker 10: giving up more opportunities in the slot, Like teams were
- 30:39Speaker 10: able to get into the slot a lot easier, get
- 30:42Speaker 10: shots on group.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Hour and whatever your advanced stat metric is, shots per
- 30:48Speaker 3: danger ye on a Tuesday, Like we led. We led
- 30:53Speaker 3: that category a lot and danger shots dangered, yes, yes,
- 31:00Speaker 3: of danger, super dangerous danger. We were in the top.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Like that's our new stat the sound the alarm shots.
- 31:11Speaker 10: The Kraken led in those chances, unfortunately.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Yes, please do.
- 31:16Speaker 10: But but now, look, I haven't watched every second of
- 31:20Speaker 10: every game of the wind Streak, but in the highlights
- 31:23Speaker 10: that I'm seeing, like certain shifts, I'm noticing that the
- 31:27Speaker 10: Kraken are are doing their best and succeeding in many
- 31:30Speaker 10: cases to keep those opportunities to the walls, to keep
- 31:34Speaker 10: those opportunities to the outside.
- 31:36Speaker 2: So there's a lot less of those five alarm bell
- 31:39Speaker 2: def con one chances. So that's that's been very, very helpful.
- 31:44Speaker 10: And then when you have a goalie like Philip, like, look,
- 31:46Speaker 10: let's be honest, like goaltending is still to me, the
- 31:49Speaker 10: most important position.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Right you get good goaltending, that goalie is going to
- 31:53Speaker 2: keep you in games.
- 31:54Speaker 10: Like so, I mean we're talking about like the cracking
- 32:00Speaker 10: yesterday against the Rangers, right like the Rangers could have
- 32:03Speaker 10: used that in the second and third period, right like
- 32:07Speaker 10: they So I would say that that to me, that
- 32:12Speaker 10: the defensive minded structure was the first thing that came
- 32:15Speaker 10: to mind with Lane Lambert. And look, this is a
- 32:17Speaker 10: good sample size and this is a good example of
- 32:21Speaker 10: a team winning based on that.
- 32:22Speaker 2: So you got to give him credit for that.
- 32:24Speaker 6: After the krack And went up three to Berkeley, kat
- 32:27Speaker 6: And had that game winning goal. Of my goodness, now
- 32:29Speaker 6: four goals and four games now for the nineteen year
- 32:31Speaker 6: old rookie. But I couldn't really make out of it
- 32:35Speaker 6: from my earpiece as I was calling the game on radio.
- 32:38Speaker 6: But I found out later the chance got louder and
- 32:42Speaker 6: the chants were fired. Drury, how much more troubled did
- 32:47Speaker 6: the Kraken put the Rangers in after last night's game?
- 32:50Speaker 10: So I'll point to a tweet that Stan Fischler put out.
- 32:53Speaker 10: Stan Fischler, as we all know, one of the legends
- 32:56Speaker 10: in hockey coverage, he's written like a hundred books before
- 33:00Speaker 10: the Kraken game. After the ten two loss to Boston
- 33:04Speaker 10: on Saturday, he said, this is the game to me,
- 33:08Speaker 10: that is the do or die game for the for
- 33:11Speaker 10: the Rangers. And in fact, in his tweet he said
- 33:15Speaker 10: a loss equals ignomini, which in itself is a great
- 33:20Speaker 10: word to use.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Shout out to Stan.
- 33:22Speaker 10: But essentially the season is over in his eyes if
- 33:27Speaker 10: the Rangers lose to the Kraken, and by the way,
- 33:30Speaker 10: they go up to nothing in the first period and
- 33:33Speaker 10: then things look pretty rosy. Mika's a Bandajad is on
- 33:36Speaker 10: a re bounce back. Yes, there's injuries with Fox and
- 33:40Speaker 10: Shasturkin for the Rangers, but then to lose the way
- 33:43Speaker 10: that they did, you know, now you're asking questions about
- 33:47Speaker 10: what kind of team are they going to be at
- 33:50Speaker 10: the trade deadline? Are we going to see a player
- 33:52Speaker 10: like Artemi Paneren in a different sweater by the end
- 33:55Speaker 10: of the season. Would a guy like Artemi Paneren look
- 33:58Speaker 10: great in a cracken jersey?
- 33:59Speaker 2: Oh good, that's a you know what?
- 34:01Speaker 10: But like seriously like that, yeah, thinking about shutting down
- 34:05Speaker 10: the season for the Rangers.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I mean, listen, people love to say, the Kraken don't
- 34:10Speaker 3: have a superstar. They're not sexy. I mean, I don't
- 34:13Speaker 3: know if you look at available players it gets any
- 34:15Speaker 3: sexier than our Timmy Vanieran. So yesterday, Columbus makes what
- 34:20Speaker 3: I thought was a surprising coaching change with Dean Everson
- 34:25Speaker 3: leaving and Rick Bones coming in. Where do you feel
- 34:28Speaker 3: this puts Columbus because I know, again it's not been
- 34:32Speaker 3: the season that they wanted. Currently at the bottom of
- 34:35Speaker 3: the East, but again still only seven points back of
- 34:39Speaker 3: a playoff spot. What did you make of Rick Bones
- 34:43Speaker 3: coming off of TNT and back to a bench in
- 34:47Speaker 3: the NHL.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Well, he's a great hockey mind. We all know that.
- 34:50Speaker 10: I mean a lot of people are going to point
- 34:51Speaker 10: to the age, right, that's going to be that. I mean,
- 34:55Speaker 10: we just went through this with the University of Michigan, right,
- 34:57Speaker 10: he was a sixty six year old coach.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Everyone days, Kyle Rising exactly Rising on that. So I
- 35:03Speaker 2: get it.
- 35:04Speaker 10: But at the same time, you know, like I appreciate
- 35:07Speaker 10: the change, I would be shocked if we don't see
- 35:11Speaker 10: maybe even one or two more, certainly in the East
- 35:14Speaker 10: like that.
- 35:15Speaker 2: That's definitely that's a conference that those teams all feel
- 35:18Speaker 2: like they have a.
- 35:19Speaker 10: Chance, you know, And let's be honest with Buffalo for example,
- 35:22Speaker 10: when when yarmol Kekel is speaking of Columbus, when Yarmo
- 35:25Speaker 10: Kekel line and got hired, right, the next place that
- 35:27Speaker 10: people were looking immediately was Lindy rough Well that all
- 35:32Speaker 10: of a sudden, you go on a ten game heater,
- 35:33Speaker 10: and then you lose one game, and then you're back
- 35:35Speaker 10: on a three or four game heater ever, and then
- 35:37Speaker 10: suddenly your job is secure.
- 35:39Speaker 2: And I talked with.
- 35:39Speaker 10: John Toroderella about this all the time, Like he always
- 35:43Speaker 10: stresses how volatile that. I mean, it's obvious to us
- 35:45Speaker 10: on the outside looking in how volatile these jobs are.
- 35:48Speaker 10: But even like he stresses often about how you know,
- 35:52Speaker 10: when you're in that pressure cooker, it's tough not to
- 35:55Speaker 10: think about it and put it aside, especially when everyone
- 35:59Speaker 10: has you under microscope and you're constantly every single thing
- 36:03Speaker 10: you do is scrutinized, especially in bigger in larger markets, right,
- 36:07Speaker 10: so you're always under that microscope, especially in the coaching job,
- 36:11Speaker 10: like the turnover is so high. It takes one losing
- 36:14Speaker 10: streak and suddenly you're, you know, possibly out of a job.
- 36:20Speaker 6: Arta Okay, I'll joining us right now on the Beacon
- 36:22Speaker 6: Plumbing hotline. Here on Cracking Weekly Arta we talked about
- 36:25Speaker 6: parody off the top and still a lot to get
- 36:28Speaker 6: sorted out right around the Olympic break and then after
- 36:31Speaker 6: there's a trade freeze as well, and what kind of
- 36:34Speaker 6: lead into more of this kind of like in a
- 36:36Speaker 6: gradual pace, but beginning with here at this point, do
- 36:40Speaker 6: you see this either potentially as a buyer's or a
- 36:44Speaker 6: seller's market at trade deadline time?
- 36:47Speaker 10: Oh, I think there's going to be well at the
- 36:50Speaker 10: at the actual trade deadline, it might be quiet simply
- 36:53Speaker 10: because simply because the gms will have so much time
- 36:58Speaker 10: throughout the entire month to make deals.
- 37:01Speaker 2: So I don't know if we're.
- 37:04Speaker 10: Gonna have record amounts of trades even trade deadline week.
- 37:08Speaker 10: I think it's gonna be as a slow drip. I
- 37:11Speaker 10: think we're gonna see a lot of movement during the Olympics.
- 37:14Speaker 10: So it's like for US media types it's gonna be oh,
- 37:18Speaker 10: what a team USA do today? And by the way,
- 37:20Speaker 10: there was also this trade actually which would make for
- 37:23Speaker 10: some funny It would actually make for some funny like
- 37:26Speaker 10: what if like players on the Olympic teams are suddenly
- 37:29Speaker 10: like teammates or not teammates anymore.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Like that'll make for some funny dynamics, right.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I was just about to ask, Mike, you said it
- 37:37Speaker 3: last week. I don't have it in front of me.
- 37:39Speaker 3: When is that trade freeze? And does it extend through
- 37:44Speaker 3: the games? Like could we see the morning of the
- 37:47Speaker 3: gold medal game Brady Kachuck being traded for someone or
- 37:53Speaker 3: you know what I mean, like, like, what is the
- 37:56Speaker 3: what's that date?
- 37:59Speaker 6: February fourth? Want to say begins a roster freeze?
- 38:02Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, because I'm just curious if, because you're right, Arta,
- 38:07Speaker 3: that would be that would be fascinating if you're going
- 38:11Speaker 3: into the gold medal game and you score on someone
- 38:15Speaker 3: and you guys are on the same plane back it.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Also ends on the twenty second of February.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so so so that yeah, then then it
- 38:23Speaker 2: wouldn't happen. But no, I still believe that there ten seconds,
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 38:29Speaker 10: I still feel like the GMS are in the mode
- 38:32Speaker 10: to like, let me put it this way. Then, with
- 38:35Speaker 10: that in mind, February twenty third, I wouldn't be surprised
- 38:38Speaker 10: if like three or four trades were announced, like gms
- 38:42Speaker 10: will just be thinking and talking and all of a sudden,
- 38:45Speaker 10: you know, the Central Registry is going to have like
- 38:49Speaker 10: a lineup of like twenty five items that they have
- 38:51Speaker 10: to look through for something like.
- 38:52Speaker 3: That, because no one, no one could stop.
- 38:56Speaker 1: A Monday morning, right.
- 38:58Speaker 10: Yeah, that's not an embargo, right, Like, it's not like
- 39:00Speaker 10: a it's not illegal for the gms to talk during
- 39:03Speaker 10: the freeze.
- 39:04Speaker 2: It's just they can't make trades.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Part of the intrigue with the Crack and Roster has
- 39:11Speaker 6: always been when are they going to add a top line,
- 39:15Speaker 6: elite superstar presence up front? And now they've always been
- 39:19Speaker 6: working to try to see, you know, can Maddy Beniers
- 39:22Speaker 6: fit that Bill could Shane right maybe pop into something
- 39:25Speaker 6: like that down the road. And you have Berkeley Caton,
- 39:27Speaker 6: who's just nineteen years of age, eighth overall pick could
- 39:30Speaker 6: he be there? And then even a guy like Jack
- 39:32Speaker 6: O'Brien back at the OHL. So I'm giving him David
- 39:34Speaker 6: crazy comparisons. But still there's always the allure and the
- 39:38Speaker 6: intrigue of potentially finding a piece via trade. Now we've
- 39:43Speaker 6: heard our Timmy Peneren's name out there, we've heard Alex
- 39:46Speaker 6: Tuck's name out there, We've heard Ryan O'Reilly's name out there,
- 39:49Speaker 6: and the capit really isn't that big compared to some
- 39:51Speaker 6: other players. But is there a name that really intrigues
- 39:54Speaker 6: you the most who could be moved here in the
- 39:57Speaker 6: oncoming weeks upfront?
- 39:59Speaker 10: Yeah, I like Everett's thought about a superstar, someone who's
- 40:03Speaker 10: a top line scorer.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Paneren would fit that bill for sure.
- 40:07Speaker 10: Like, at at their best, the Krack can operate like
- 40:12Speaker 10: four second third lines right like, like they have the
- 40:16Speaker 10: depth like at when they are at their best, they
- 40:20Speaker 10: they and that's good for you know, a playoff run
- 40:24Speaker 10: if they operate at their on paper, at.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Their best not top heavy.
- 40:29Speaker 10: Yeah, they're not top heavy and they have good distribution
- 40:32Speaker 10: and depth, which is what you need to win championships.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Everybody knows that.
- 40:36Speaker 10: But yeah, I would say two top line goal scorers
- 40:41Speaker 10: to add to that team would be extremely beneficial.
- 40:46Speaker 6: Finally, do you see any weakness here with Colorado wherever
- 40:48Speaker 6: gets some in the first round.
- 40:51Speaker 10: I mean, if we're looking at the Boston situation, maybe
- 40:54Speaker 10: complacency might be the only thing. I just don't see
- 40:56Speaker 10: Nathan McKinnon allowing that though this is the guy that
- 40:59Speaker 10: refuses John Food in the locker room, right, Like he's
- 41:02Speaker 10: just I just don't see him as the guy that's like,
- 41:04Speaker 10: all right, well, we had a great regular season, let's
- 41:06Speaker 10: pack it in and not give our full effort during
- 41:09Speaker 10: the playoffs. So he would counter that for sure. I
- 41:15Speaker 10: just yeah, they they they look unstoppable, you know what,
- 41:18Speaker 10: Like the most surprising thing to to the point about
- 41:20Speaker 10: Grubauer with the Kraken, Like their goaltending has been unreal,
- 41:24Speaker 10: Like that's that, And but who would have I don't
- 41:27Speaker 10: think a lot of people would have predicted that for
- 41:30Speaker 10: for the UH, especially Devil's fans, who are just maulding
- 41:33Speaker 10: at this. They're just very upset at the idea that
- 41:37Speaker 10: that they're thriving under a system like Colorado's.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I was watching the Leafs game.
- 41:43Speaker 10: Leafs Abs gain because we have the Leaves tonight against
- 41:45Speaker 10: the Mammoth.
- 41:46Speaker 3: Uh.
- 41:47Speaker 2: The Abs are just too fast.
- 41:48Speaker 10: Even a minor minor was great in net for Colorado,
- 41:51Speaker 10: Like they just they just have they just have it everywhere.
- 41:54Speaker 10: It's just this is a magical year for them. It
- 41:56Speaker 10: would take a special team and a special circumstance UH
- 42:00Speaker 10: to eliminate them.
- 42:01Speaker 3: I would think, but you know what, those those are
- 42:03Speaker 3: the teams the Colorado Avalanche this year. Those are the
- 42:07Speaker 3: teams that are world beaters throughout the regular season and
- 42:11Speaker 3: then they get tripped up in the first round. Like
- 42:14Speaker 3: I look at Tampa. Remember when Tampa got upset by
- 42:17Speaker 3: Columbus in the first round. Like obviously they didn't have
- 42:20Speaker 3: that same season, But you know, everybody, everybody's ready to
- 42:24Speaker 3: etch mccarr and McKinnon's name on the Cup. Again, I
- 42:28Speaker 3: don't know, man, like that. Playoff hockey is different because
- 42:32Speaker 3: you're gonna have guys. Everyone's been saying the cracking the
- 42:35Speaker 3: way that they play, they play playoff hockey right. They
- 42:38Speaker 3: there are three to two teams every single night. They're
- 42:41Speaker 3: comfortable being a three to two team. All you need
- 42:44Speaker 3: to do is find the right team and the right
- 42:46Speaker 3: system to shut down that line. And you know, Annoy
- 42:50Speaker 3: McKinnon and mccar kracking did it. And I'm not ready
- 42:55Speaker 3: to say that the Abs are gonna cake walk their
- 42:57Speaker 3: way to the Cup final.
- 42:59Speaker 10: Yea, that's the Colorad, I mean, not color the Carolina
- 43:01Speaker 10: argument that you're playing out one hundred percent all season
- 43:04Speaker 10: long and you're you're just destroying opponents but then when
- 43:07Speaker 10: everyone's playing one hundred percent, that's when your weakness has
- 43:09Speaker 10: come through the Yeah, that's.
- 43:11Speaker 2: A very good point.
- 43:12Speaker 6: It's a very good like for sixty minutes, man, Carolina,
- 43:15Speaker 6: it is unbelieving.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a very good point.
- 43:17Speaker 6: Ever Itt, well, hey, it's always fast paced, fast moment,
- 43:20Speaker 6: especially when you're on here with us. Or to appreciate
- 43:22Speaker 6: you, you do great work. Once again NHL on ESPN, catch
- 43:26Speaker 6: them all over the place once again. But we'll get
- 43:28Speaker 6: you back on soon. Thanks again, my man.
- 43:30Speaker 10: I'm clearly a great friend when I'm like an hour
- 43:32Speaker 10: away from Manhattan and I don't come in to see
- 43:34Speaker 10: you guys, or I don't invite you to the house. Hey,
- 43:37Speaker 10: come come to campus now. No, I'm just you know
- 43:40Speaker 10: zoom is good enough. What a terrible friend I am?
- 43:43Speaker 11: Oh no, next time, next time, I'm out this way.
- 43:49Speaker 11: As a kid who grew up wanting to be on ESPN,
- 43:53Speaker 11: I might make the trip up there.
- 43:54Speaker 3: And I've always wanted to.
- 43:56Speaker 2: See the studio, So buddy, open invite dude.
- 43:59Speaker 6: Sports Center NERD went back to the early Yeah, please
- 44:01Speaker 6: count me.
- 44:02Speaker 2: You're both welcome.
- 44:03Speaker 3: I was gonna be Stuart Scott. That was my Golden Life,
- 44:06Speaker 3: so rip up lifetime.
- 44:09Speaker 6: All right, Arta Ocal, thank you so much a consider
- 44:12Speaker 6: me in anytime. I was a big Dan Patrick fan
- 44:15Speaker 6: as well back in the day growing up watching Sports
- 44:17Speaker 6: Center back in the nineties. All Right, big thanks Arta
- 44:19Speaker 6: Ocal for joining us. Pull question and our mail bag
- 44:22Speaker 6: and our three stars. Next after this on Cracking Weekly

- 44:33Speaker 6: Poll question still open once again. You can find that
- 44:35Speaker 6: at the Crack and Audio Network x account at crack
- 44:38Speaker 6: and Audio Net. All right, wrapping things up again here
- 44:42Speaker 6: in New York. Big thanks again to Arta Ocal from
- 44:45Speaker 6: the NHL on ESPN for joining us once again. You
- 44:48Speaker 6: can find the Crack and Audio Network at x AD
- 44:52Speaker 6: Crack and Audio Net for our poll question of the week.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Mike Everett al with you back here to wrap up
- 44:58Speaker 6: this evening, So sow before we get back and going
- 45:00Speaker 6: out to different places and exploring with the different faces
- 45:04Speaker 6: around NYC. This has been a blast, by the way,
- 45:07Speaker 6: you have four days in this city.
- 45:08Speaker 1: That's a gift.
- 45:10Speaker 5: That is a gift.
- 45:11Speaker 3: And this is your first time here too, Mikey. You're
- 45:13Speaker 3: gonna go out and be a tourist. You get to
- 45:16Speaker 3: just make sure keep it moving if you gotta if
- 45:20Speaker 3: you gotta stop, you know, maybe pull off to the side,
- 45:23Speaker 3: do it at a corner, duck into a store, keep
- 45:26Speaker 3: on moving. Then I gotta keep it.
- 45:27Speaker 6: I almost had one of those moments too, when I
- 45:30Speaker 6: was transitioning in between spots from I want to say,
- 45:35Speaker 6: off of Long Island Railroad and into Penn Station and
- 45:38Speaker 6: we're all moving, and I remembered, oh wait, there are
- 45:40Speaker 6: no escalators here, and I still have my bag handle
- 45:43Speaker 6: about roughly prop two feet high. I better move right
- 45:47Speaker 6: on over or it's going to be just like the
- 45:49Speaker 6: one scene from Seinfeld where I believe it was Kramer
- 45:52Speaker 6: who gets moved back off the subway to my baby
- 45:56Speaker 6: takes the morning Trade and remember that, and he just
- 45:59Speaker 6: gets walled right up.
- 46:01Speaker 1: It's like a tidal wave.
- 46:03Speaker 8: Whatever you do, Mike, you don't buy any persons out
- 46:06Speaker 8: of garbage bags. Those are not Gucci persons.
- 46:09Speaker 5: Those are.
- 46:12Speaker 1: There.
- 46:13Speaker 6: There are certain spots in Los Angeles I learned growing
- 46:15Speaker 6: up where you know you're not buying a Saiko, you're
- 46:18Speaker 6: buying a Faco the watch brand onto our mail bags
- 46:23Speaker 6: segments gracefully again, you can find me an except Benton
- 46:28Speaker 6: underscore Mike ever fits you at the Voice fits Al
- 46:30Speaker 6: Kaniski at Al Kanisky as well.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Uh.
- 46:34Speaker 6: We get a question in here from Tyler Tyler asking
- 46:40Speaker 6: do you see a scenario with the bunch standings where
- 46:42Speaker 6: a superstar player shakes loose and the crack and can
- 46:46Speaker 6: go all in by unloading from their copboard of draft
- 46:50Speaker 6: picks from Tyler at X We discussed this a bit
- 46:54Speaker 6: here with Arta Ocal recently about names that are available
- 46:59Speaker 6: and are tols to fit potentially here For our Timmy Panerin,
- 47:02Speaker 6: I mean, my goodness, with how much he can put handle,
- 47:05Speaker 6: with the plays that he makes, I mean, the puck
- 47:07Speaker 6: comes off his stick like a howitzer. It's hard to
- 47:12Speaker 6: see how he wouldn't make this team even better by
- 47:16Speaker 6: installing him as a top line fit. The only questions
- 47:20Speaker 6: I think that would linger are once he shakes lewis
- 47:23Speaker 6: how much do you have to unload for him? And
- 47:25Speaker 6: then do the ends justify the means when it comes
- 47:30Speaker 6: to his salary. But I think on a deeper scale
- 47:34Speaker 6: this is where I'm also cautious, because I mean, sure
- 47:38Speaker 6: you would love to make the big swing for the
- 47:40Speaker 6: big move here, but you have to compare where the
- 47:44Speaker 6: Kraken are at in their window, then, say, versus other
- 47:48Speaker 6: contenders who have to win now. And I'm using Edmonton
- 47:52Speaker 6: for an example. I am using the Avalanche here as
- 47:55Speaker 6: an example. The Maple Leafs are now back into a
- 47:57Speaker 6: wildcard spot, so I think you have to use I
- 48:01Speaker 6: think a little bit of a of a judicious stance
- 48:06Speaker 6: with you want to make a run and get into
- 48:08Speaker 6: the playoffs. Yeah, that's fun, but how much is that
- 48:11Speaker 6: going to set you back long term? Because again we've
- 48:13Speaker 6: heard over and over and over GM Jason Bottle, despite
- 48:17Speaker 6: where this team is at, wants to see the young
- 48:18Speaker 6: kids keep improving as well.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're right on all points there, Mike.
- 48:25Speaker 3: I love Paneron, but he's thirty five years old. Do
- 48:28Speaker 3: I really want to give up a lot of prospects
- 48:31Speaker 3: and picks for a guy that maybe he's got two
- 48:34Speaker 3: or three years left in the league.
- 48:36Speaker 6: And also this cap it's also eleven mil.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Cap hits eleven mil. He's thirty five years old, and
- 48:43Speaker 3: I don't want to. I don't want to disappoint a
- 48:45Speaker 3: lot of cracking fans, but Panaren is the guy that
- 48:48Speaker 3: you go out there when you're one piece away from
- 48:51Speaker 3: a cup, and you're right, the Cracking are very early
- 48:53Speaker 3: in that window. You're hoping it's going to be a nice, big,
- 48:56Speaker 3: bright window. But as of right now, Paneren's not the
- 49:00Speaker 3: guy that you're gonna take the swing at. I mean,
- 49:03Speaker 3: I look at like some top RFAs that you can
- 49:06Speaker 3: have some control over. Kracking have got what ten picks
- 49:10Speaker 3: in the first two rounds in the next three or
- 49:13Speaker 3: so air next two or three drafts, So I would
- 49:16Speaker 3: be I would be shocked if the Crack can pick
- 49:20Speaker 3: all those guys. You've got four depending on where Tampa finishes,
- 49:23Speaker 3: You've got four first rounders in the next two years
- 49:26Speaker 3: as well. I would be shocked if the Krack can
- 49:29Speaker 3: use all four of those. So you've got the assets,
- 49:32Speaker 3: you know. You know my thoughts on this. I think
- 49:35Speaker 3: there are a few untouchables in the organization in terms
- 49:40Speaker 3: of from a prospect standpoint, but you know, a lot
- 49:43Speaker 3: of other folks make me an offer. I think Jason's
- 49:45Speaker 3: willing to listen, but you're right, he's not gonna make
- 49:49Speaker 3: a home run swing now at the detriment of the
- 49:53Speaker 3: next four or five years.
- 49:55Speaker 6: And just to think, al al before I get this
- 49:57Speaker 6: over to you, my opinion is that. I mean, again, Karon,
- 50:00Speaker 6: what would be a great fit. Alex Tuck would be
- 50:02Speaker 6: a great fit. Ryan O'Reilly workable cap, But I think
- 50:05Speaker 6: that Trey gets a bit likely or just my opinion here,
- 50:08Speaker 6: if you can find a team to retain salary.
- 50:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's part of it.
- 50:12Speaker 8: I think that you know, to Everett's point, it's likely
- 50:15Speaker 8: a team that comes calling Seattle that is one piece away,
- 50:20Speaker 8: that says, hey, we'd be interested in one of your
- 50:22Speaker 8: top six, your top pairing defensemen, and here's what we're
- 50:26Speaker 8: willing to give up to get that person. That puts
- 50:28Speaker 8: Seattle in a stronger position for making the playoffs this year,
- 50:33Speaker 8: gives them an additional piece, but an additional piece that
- 50:36Speaker 8: will pay off not for one or two years, but
- 50:38Speaker 8: maybe for three to five years as this team continues
- 50:41Speaker 8: to grow.
- 50:42Speaker 5: I think that's more likely the outcome.
- 50:43Speaker 6: Before we get onto our three stars the Crack, and
- 50:47Speaker 6: again we'll face New Jersey tomorrow. They have been struggling
- 50:50Speaker 6: to get back into the playoff picture and Sheldon Keith
- 50:54Speaker 6: having to answer for a lot of more challenges than
- 50:58Speaker 6: I think cessible situations here for this season. Then you
- 51:03Speaker 6: get Boston the Crack and handle them quite nicely last week,
- 51:07Speaker 6: and then they just come right back and just unload
- 51:10Speaker 6: scorched Earth tour style on the New York Rangers in
- 51:13Speaker 6: that ten to two game last week. And then you
- 51:15Speaker 6: got to go across country almost almost in a span
- 51:19Speaker 6: of one day again and go face the Utah Mammoth
- 51:22Speaker 6: and what will be late afternoon, a late afternoon game
- 51:27Speaker 6: mountain time as well. So at the end of this
- 51:29Speaker 6: you're looking at five games on the road here for
- 51:32Speaker 6: this trip we talked about maybe I think the implications
- 51:35Speaker 6: of where it puts this team in the playoff mix.
- 51:37Speaker 6: But there are ten points right now on the table
- 51:39Speaker 6: the Crack and are one and one right now on
- 51:41Speaker 6: this trip. Do you call six points the bar? Do
- 51:44Speaker 6: you call eight points the bar or a different number?
- 51:48Speaker 8: Yeah, I call six points the minimum. I think there's
- 51:52Speaker 8: no reason why, again we've seen this team kind of
- 51:55Speaker 8: turn the corner on these back to back games. I
- 51:57Speaker 8: see there's no reason why they couldn't pull out a
- 52:00Speaker 8: against both New Jersey and Boston. I think the ghosts
- 52:03Speaker 8: of Utah are hovering at the Delta Center, and I
- 52:07Speaker 8: think the crack you need to find a way to
- 52:09Speaker 8: push through that. But honestly, that could be the toughest
- 52:12Speaker 8: of the three games. But I see six games as
- 52:16Speaker 8: the low bar. I absolutely see a scenario where they
- 52:19Speaker 8: could continue this into a four game heater.
- 52:22Speaker 5: By the end of this road trip too.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I'll want up. I'll go seven. For
- 52:27Speaker 3: all those reasons that you said, right, I think that
- 52:30Speaker 3: this team has been finding ways to get points, They've
- 52:34Speaker 3: been finding ways to have success. So again, you go
- 52:39Speaker 3: three one in one on this road trip, which I
- 52:42Speaker 3: don't think is out of the realm of possibility. You
- 52:45Speaker 3: start another heater. You got the one out of the
- 52:48Speaker 3: way in Carolina. Luckily for Seattle. Your travel the next
- 52:53Speaker 3: few days, is it going to be excuse me that bad?
- 52:56Speaker 3: You've got the Devils coming up on Wednesday, and then
- 53:00Speaker 3: it's an eight o'clock Eastern game on Thursday, so you
- 53:04Speaker 3: have an extra hour in Boston to rest and recouper
- 53:07Speaker 3: eight and and recover. Their emotions are gonna be high.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Chara was a fan favorite there and help bring a
- 53:13Speaker 3: cup there and and all of that, and and he
- 53:16Speaker 3: there's gonna be a lot of emotions swirling in that building.
- 53:20Speaker 3: So maybe the Cracking can use that distraction to their
- 53:23Speaker 3: advantage early and then you're right. You know, Utah's been
- 53:26Speaker 3: kind of the the bugaboo for Seattle. They've only played
- 53:30Speaker 3: there twice, but they've lost both games that they've played there.
- 53:35Speaker 3: You've got back to back Mattinees coming up with Saturday
- 53:38Speaker 3: and then Monday back at home, so that throws a
- 53:40Speaker 3: wrinkle into your preparation as well. But you know, I
- 53:45Speaker 3: think there's no reason this team can't get seven. You know,
- 53:49Speaker 3: I want to. I'm with you, Al, I think six
- 53:51Speaker 3: should be the minimum, but I'm gonna challenge them to
- 53:53Speaker 3: go seven.
- 53:54Speaker 6: Let's get onto our three stars before we wrap this
- 53:58Speaker 6: up here on Cracking Weekly, doing it from New York
- 54:01Speaker 6: City and the Crack and again tomorrow and night into
- 54:05Speaker 6: New Jersey again. That face off four pm Pacific, and
- 54:08Speaker 6: it'll be the beginning of back to back the Boston
- 54:10Speaker 6: Bruins awaiting a TD Garden only visit for the Kracken
- 54:13Speaker 6: as well on Thursday, and then trip wrapping up on Saturday.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Against the Utah Mammoth.
- 54:20Speaker 6: I'll begin here with my third star, and that's going
- 54:24Speaker 6: to be Philip Grubauer. And we've seen over and over
- 54:28Speaker 6: and over this platoon system is working and I think
- 54:31Speaker 6: it's really feeding into what they can maximize out of
- 54:35Speaker 6: Joey to coord and what the crack and can maximize
- 54:38Speaker 6: as well out of Philip Groubauer. And there has been
- 54:41Speaker 6: rare a goal I've seen this year thinking that he
- 54:44Speaker 6: could have stopped that one. He'll want to have that
- 54:46Speaker 6: one back and maybe the one I think one of the.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Very very few was a Sam Carrat goal last night.
- 54:52Speaker 6: But then you saw as this team titan matters up,
- 54:56Speaker 6: Philip Grewbauer also Titan matters up. He wasn't having to
- 54:59Speaker 6: make ten bell high danger as arda Ocal said, sound
- 55:04Speaker 6: the alarm type of saves as we mentioned earlier as well,
- 55:08Speaker 6: but Grubauer.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Again found a way to get it done.
- 55:10Speaker 6: And he is a big reason why stability and goal
- 55:13Speaker 6: manners and a big reason why this team is now
- 55:15Speaker 6: nine to one and two in the last twelve games
- 55:18Speaker 6: and a serious team now in this playoff Knicks. Philip
- 55:20Speaker 6: Grubauer is my third star. My second star is Maddy Beniers,
- 55:24Speaker 6: who is on a heater right now, eleven points in
- 55:27Speaker 6: eleven games after he factored in last night. He was
- 55:31Speaker 6: a face off star as well in that Ranger game. Guys,
- 55:33Speaker 6: and this is where I think you really give him
- 55:35Speaker 6: some unsung hero pats on the back. With Chandler Stephenson
- 55:38Speaker 6: out of the mix, most reliable face off guy on
- 55:41Speaker 6: the team north of fifty percent as well. But Baniers
- 55:46Speaker 6: nine of seventeen against the Rangers and won an extremely
- 55:50Speaker 6: crucial draw late in last night's game. The Kraken didn't
- 55:55Speaker 6: win the faceoff battle against the Rangers, but Beaneers was
- 55:58Speaker 6: fantastic in that kind of role. He had one assist
- 56:01Speaker 6: plus two as well, had a couple of hits.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Matty Baniers.
- 56:04Speaker 6: You're seeing more and more about the leadership component of
- 56:07Speaker 6: him continuing to grow. He's my second star. My first
- 56:10Speaker 6: star is Berkeley Catton. Production is now picking up for him.
- 56:14Speaker 6: Goals are coming in from all areas goal scorers, type
- 56:18Speaker 6: of goal against Carolina and then got his hands dirty
- 56:22Speaker 6: front of the net.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Berkeley Catton is my first star.
- 56:25Speaker 8: My third star is going to go to Jordan Everly,
- 56:28Speaker 8: he had a goal in the Ranger game, and I
- 56:31Speaker 8: just thought that after being out the game before, the
- 56:35Speaker 8: combination of missing him for that game and then the
- 56:39Speaker 8: effect he had coming back into that Ranger game was huge.
- 56:41Speaker 5: He had a goal in the game this is the
- 56:43Speaker 5: second goal of the game.
- 56:44Speaker 8: Told him, and had the first one, but that's, you know,
- 56:47Speaker 8: a part of that comeback that was necessary.
- 56:50Speaker 5: Mounting that comeback. Big game for him.
- 56:52Speaker 8: My second star, Matty Banier's two goals over the last
- 56:56Speaker 8: few games. The highlight reel goal in the Carolina game.
- 57:00Speaker 8: I've watched that probably ten times just to see, you know,
- 57:04Speaker 8: how how he combined speed with elusiveness to beat Jacob
- 57:09Speaker 8: Slavin between the legs and then a great move on on.
- 57:13Speaker 5: Bussy uh To to get that goal.
- 57:15Speaker 8: I thought it was huge so many but Ears is
- 57:18Speaker 8: my second star, and then first stars I'm gonna give
- 57:21Speaker 8: to Berkeley Caton. You know, he's he's broken out of
- 57:23Speaker 8: that shell. He had the two goal game and then
- 57:26Speaker 8: a couple more goals this week. He's he's starting to
- 57:30Speaker 8: understand where he needs to be to affect offense in
- 57:34Speaker 8: this game. There's there's lots of growth in this game
- 57:37Speaker 8: to come, but he's definitely broken through and I look
- 57:41Speaker 8: forward to talking about him on lots of future discussions
- 57:46Speaker 8: between the three of us as one of the three stars.
- 57:48Speaker 3: All right, yeah, so for my three stars this week, Mike,
- 57:51Speaker 3: you and I very very similar. I'm gonna go Berkeley
- 57:55Speaker 3: Catton as my number three star. Four goals in his
- 57:59Speaker 3: last four games, goals and back to back games, uh
- 58:02Speaker 3: with with Hurricanes and the Rangers. And I think that again,
- 58:05Speaker 3: we talk so much about his play as of late,
- 58:08Speaker 3: the confidence that he has, the swagger that he's bringing,
- 58:12Speaker 3: you know, he he is turning into that that bona
- 58:16Speaker 3: fide superstar that Seattle has been much maligned for not having.
- 58:20Speaker 3: Right he's he's turning into that guy. So it's been
- 58:23Speaker 3: it's been awesome to see I think my number two star,
- 58:26Speaker 3: Matt Eveniers. I mean, he's on a five game heater
- 58:28Speaker 3: right now. He's got goals in two of his last
- 58:31Speaker 3: three games, had a big assist against the Rangers as well,
- 58:34Speaker 3: and again the two way game, the defensive game that
- 58:37Speaker 3: we talked so much about first half of the year,
- 58:39Speaker 3: and I even was like, I need more goals from you, Maddy.
- 58:42Speaker 3: Well he shut me up because he's got three goals
- 58:43Speaker 3: in his last five games, including a pretty nice shootout
- 58:47Speaker 3: winner earlier in the month as well. So once again
- 58:51Speaker 3: he's we're seeing the offense come around. So thank you
- 58:54Speaker 3: Maddy for making me eat my words and and my hat.
- 58:57Speaker 5: I appreciate that.
- 58:59Speaker 3: And then number one Philly, I mean, I gotta go groovy.
- 59:02Speaker 3: He has been lights out solid for this team. An
- 59:07Speaker 3: unfortunate deflection goal off his skate against the Rangers the
- 59:11Speaker 3: other day, and then he comes back and shuts New
- 59:14Speaker 3: York down in the second and third period this season
- 59:18Speaker 3: for him, playoff groovy. We talked so much about it, right,
- 59:22Speaker 3: we're getting back to what we saw in that magical
- 59:26Speaker 3: second season, and I think if this team is going
- 59:29Speaker 3: to go places, it's going to be on the back
- 59:31Speaker 3: of goaltending. Ley Lambert has heaped all the praise on
- 59:34Speaker 3: to Collins Zulianello and Phil Grubauer. Joey de Cord have
- 59:39Speaker 3: been at the top of their game for the bulk
- 59:42Speaker 3: of this season, and if this team's gonna keep rolling,
- 59:46Speaker 3: they're gonna need their goaltending. So Grubauer, give me the
- 59:48Speaker 3: number one star this week.
- 59:49Speaker 6: All right, crack it again tomorrow night into New Jersey.
- 59:53Speaker 1: We are at the Rock.
- 59:54Speaker 6: Everett's back on TV, Alan I will have the call
- 59:56Speaker 6: for you by the way, four pm Pacific airtime, half beforehand,
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: three thirty Andrewsers back in studio. We're back here to
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: the usual spots for Boston on Zdano Shara Jersey retirement night.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: That is going to be a fun one.
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: The crack can only visit to TD Gardens same time
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: as well, four pm Pacific and then the road trip
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: wraps up. Crack it at Utah coming up this Saturday
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: two pm Pacific time as well, and then right back
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: home after that for MLK Day against the Pittsburgh Penguins
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: two pm Pacific time to open up the next home stand.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: All right, all the time we have here. Big thanks
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: again Everett now for the usual roundtable, and also big
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: thanks to are To. Okay, I'll talk with you soon.
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: Once again for Everett. Now I might see it.
