- 2:36Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, thanks for having me.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Ben.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I'm in the seventeenth I sis I left my one off.
- 2:42Speaker 5: I apologie. What district did I just put you in?
- 2:45Speaker 2: You put me in Logan, Southern Kenak County and Lincoln.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Okay, I have perfect I apologize numbers they're hard. I
- 2:53Speaker 5: do all these notes, and I leave one little letter.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Math was never my strong suit. Seventeenth I apologize for that.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Thank you very much. Let's start over. Welcome in, Sharna,
- 3:01Speaker 5: carry you.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I'm doing well.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Thank you all right, So give us the bio on
- 3:06Speaker 5: Ann Charnock. Tell us all about yourself.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm Anne Sharnock. I'm a lifelong resident of Kanall County.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I'm a graduate of West Virginia University. I'm a lawyer
- 3:16Speaker 2: and I've practiced law at the family firm for well
- 3:19Speaker 2: more years than I want. A state and I was
- 3:22Speaker 2: appointed to the State Senate by the governor two sessions ago,
- 3:26Speaker 2: in February of twenty twenty five, and I'm seeking to
- 3:30Speaker 2: fill the unexpired term.
- 3:32Speaker 5: So with that background, of course, you were appointed in
- 3:34Speaker 5: that seat. As you said, why did you decide to
- 3:37Speaker 5: allow yourself to be appointed to that or get into
- 3:40Speaker 5: politics in general? Because you've run for other things. So
- 3:42Speaker 5: tell me about why a foray into politics.
- 3:44Speaker 7: At some point.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I come from a family that has been involved in
- 3:51Speaker 2: politics for a long time, and I have always been
- 3:54Speaker 2: interested in politics. I tell friends, I'm just an old
- 3:58Speaker 2: polysym major from w and serving in the State Senate
- 4:04Speaker 2: is everything I learned in four years of political signs,
- 4:08Speaker 2: and the next time, when I live this again, I'll
- 4:12Speaker 2: take a few more psychology classes.
- 4:14Speaker 5: You probably couldn't heard, kiddings. Was when you made it
- 4:17Speaker 5: and you were appointed to the state Senate seat? Was
- 4:19Speaker 5: it everything you thought it would be? There are always
- 4:22Speaker 5: surprises coming in. Just talk about your experience.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I had served. I had served as a lawyer for
- 4:31Speaker 2: the House Judiciary Committee a couple of years before, so
- 4:34Speaker 2: I had an understanding of the rhythm the process. Now,
- 4:38Speaker 2: please don't think that the House and the Senator are alike.
- 4:41Speaker 2: They're not. They're completely different, but the process is very,
- 4:46Speaker 2: very similar. So I had that going into that. Has
- 4:50Speaker 2: it been everything I thought it was? I'm not sure
- 4:52Speaker 2: I knew what I thought it was, but it certainly
- 4:55Speaker 2: has been interesting. There's a lot of work, there are
- 4:58Speaker 2: a lot of people, lots of listening, lots of reading,
- 5:03Speaker 2: and that's exactly what I expected.
- 5:07Speaker 5: What's what's left undone if the voters decide to re
- 5:12Speaker 5: elect you to the Senate? And what is what are
- 5:14Speaker 5: some things that are on your your wish or want
- 5:16Speaker 5: list for future sessions if you're re elected?
- 5:19Speaker 2: Well, I think the number one thing is We've got
- 5:21Speaker 2: to continue doing the work to make the economy in
- 5:24Speaker 2: this state better. There are and that that covers a facet.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Strength and education. We work on child welfare, We protect
- 5:33Speaker 2: the vulnerable, we protect the elderly. Law and order. It's
- 5:38Speaker 2: such a big thing these you know, in this day
- 5:41Speaker 2: and age. So there's infrastructure, there's so much more to do.
- 5:45Speaker 2: But we're on the right path and I'd like to
- 5:49Speaker 2: continue working on that path.
- 5:51Speaker 5: Also campaign for you, Ben.
- 5:54Speaker 2: It's been good. It's been busy. It's interesting. I that
- 6:00Speaker 2: is something I didn't really know what to expect. Yes,
- 6:04Speaker 2: I have run for office before, but legislative offices are
- 6:08Speaker 2: a different breedock hat as we say. And it's been
- 6:12Speaker 2: but it's been good. I've enjoyed it, you know.
- 6:15Speaker 5: And it's it's changed a lot the the the campaigning
- 6:18Speaker 5: over the last couple of years, because it used to
- 6:20Speaker 5: be in campaigns, you know, you always you always do
- 6:24Speaker 5: door to door and you always do sign waving, candidate forums,
- 6:27Speaker 5: things of that nature, by your radio ads, which we
- 6:29Speaker 5: hope you do by radio ads, do television, newspaper billboards,
- 6:32Speaker 5: you know, signs whatever. But now with social media, it's
- 6:36Speaker 5: become a totally totally not saying good or bad. I'm
- 6:40Speaker 5: just saying's totally different.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Senator, No, absolutely it has. I mean, gone are the
- 6:44Speaker 2: days where you know your major source was newspaper ads.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I don't know that you see that anymore. Gone or that?
- 6:54Speaker 2: And gone are the days, well, I shouldn't say gone
- 6:57Speaker 2: are the days.
- 6:58Speaker 5: Here are the days.
- 6:59Speaker 2: We're social media. It's just done everything. I mean there
- 7:03Speaker 2: you get on there and there's just stuff going all
- 7:06Speaker 2: the time. And that wasn't That was different the text
- 7:09Speaker 2: messages that you're getting people didn't goodness, gracious, we didn't
- 7:13Speaker 2: do that. So it is different. But it's all the
- 7:16Speaker 2: point is to be able to communicate your message to
- 7:19Speaker 2: the voter. They're just different ways of communications. When you
- 7:22Speaker 2: sell potato chips, you do it differently now than you
- 7:25Speaker 2: did thirty years ago. So yeah, it has changed.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Souk to Senator in Sharnock nine point fifteen. If you
- 7:31Speaker 5: have a child who's a junior in high school in
- 7:32Speaker 5: West Virginia, know someone that does your opportunity to win
- 7:35Speaker 5: a full ride scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan, room, board,
- 7:38Speaker 5: tuition fees all included nineteenth Annual West Virginia Scholar program

- 7:50Speaker 5: wv metronews dot com. Again, the application deadline is May third,
- 7:53Speaker 5: which is this Sunday. Talking about the campaign, a lot
- 7:57Speaker 5: of folks have said that among the because this is
- 7:59Speaker 5: a very very hotly contested Republican primary across the state
- 8:03Speaker 5: of West Virginia, all races, I mean something that we
- 8:07Speaker 5: didn't we didn't see years ago. I mean, because the
- 8:11Speaker 5: tide is kind of turned, you know, back in the
- 8:12Speaker 5: days I can remember when in certain counties in southern
- 8:15Speaker 5: West Virginia we may as well not have even had
- 8:17Speaker 5: a Republican party because everybody was on the other side.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Now it's starting to starting to switch. What do you
- 8:23Speaker 5: what do you make of some of the negativity that's
- 8:25Speaker 5: come out in some some of the races.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Well, it certainly has changed. As a Republican I was,
- 8:34Speaker 2: I've been a Republican since I was old enough to
- 8:36Speaker 2: register to vote. And yes, there were not many candidates,
- 8:40Speaker 2: but I believed in those Republican principles. Nobody likes negative stuff.
- 8:47Speaker 2: But that's where we are today. That is our right.
- 8:51Speaker 2: That's our right to express that's our right expressing what
- 8:54Speaker 2: we what we want or what we don't want. It's there, yea.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And most and much of it is not candidate involved.
- 9:07Speaker 2: If there's a group out there saying something or another
- 9:11Speaker 2: proer for proer against me, I can't coordinate with them.
- 9:16Speaker 2: They can't coordinate with me. There have been times you
- 9:19Speaker 2: open the mailbox and you see something I did not
- 9:24Speaker 2: know about that, but that But that's the law, and
- 9:27Speaker 2: that's what's allowed.
- 9:28Speaker 5: A lot of people don't realize that. Yeah, do you
- 9:30Speaker 5: have a website or social media?
- 9:32Speaker 8: I do.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It is Sharknock four as an fo.
- 9:35Speaker 7: R w V.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Final thirty. Why should someone vote to re elect Ann
- 9:42Speaker 5: Sharnock to West Virginia State Senate in District seven eighteen.
- 9:47Speaker 5: I had in the London in front of it.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm Ann Sharnock, and I am seeking I
- 9:52Speaker 2: am a sentless I am a senator from the seventeenth district,
- 9:56Speaker 2: and I seek election to the unexpired term. I'm a
- 10:00Speaker 2: lifelong Republican, lifetime resident of Kenall County. My conservative voting
- 10:06Speaker 2: record will show my commitment to conservative values. I want
- 10:10Speaker 2: to lower taxes, I want to improve law and order.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I want to make strengthen our education system, funder infrastructure,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and all of these go to the greater goal of
- 10:24Speaker 2: making West Virginia the place that one wants to live.
- 10:28Speaker 2: One wants to raise a family, one wants to worship,
- 10:31Speaker 2: one wants to work, one wants to go to school.
- 10:35Speaker 2: These conservative values are going to make West Virginia a
- 10:39Speaker 2: better place, and that's why I'm asking for your support.
- 10:43Speaker 2: My name is Anne Sharnock, and I'm running for the
- 10:45Speaker 2: unexpired state Senate term in the seventeenth district.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Seventeenth. I'll say that over and over again, seventeenth in Sharnock.

- 13:51Speaker 11: Good morning Dave. How you doing.
- 13:53Speaker 5: I am doing fine. Thank you for being here. Senator.
- 13:55Speaker 5: I want to start off on a serious note. We
- 13:57Speaker 5: were all stunned Saturday night when we saw the scene
- 14:01Speaker 5: at the White House Correspondence dinner when someone stormed the proceedings.
- 14:05Speaker 5: I thought I'd give you a chance to speak on that.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Well.
- 14:08Speaker 11: I think it was a terrifying evening. I was not there,
- 14:11Speaker 11: and I had a couple of people ask me if
- 14:14Speaker 11: I was there. I have attended it before and it's
- 14:16Speaker 11: a very widely attend you know, festive kind of evening.
- 14:19Speaker 11: And I think the a couple things. First of all,
- 14:23Speaker 11: the violence that we're seeing in the and the attempt
- 14:27Speaker 11: at assassinations of President Trump are rather stunning. I think
- 14:31Speaker 11: he you know, he rode this one out pretty well,
- 14:33Speaker 11: but I think it obviously shook up the first lady
- 14:36Speaker 11: and others who were in the room. I think that
- 14:40Speaker 11: they are assessing, now, you know, the perimeter and and
- 14:43Speaker 11: how close did he get Apparently got pretty close to
- 14:46Speaker 11: actually getting into the ballroom. I'm familiar with the area,
- 14:50Speaker 11: and so I think they're looking at the you know,
- 14:53Speaker 11: the Secret Service and Homeland Security to tighten it up
- 14:57Speaker 11: even more. And you know, if you've ever been to
- 15:00Speaker 11: a big event like this, it's kind of difficult to
- 15:02Speaker 11: get in anyway. There's long lines. But I'm just thankful
- 15:06Speaker 11: that the Secret Service, the Washington DC Police, the Capitol Police,
- 15:10Speaker 11: and others reacted as quickly as they did and were
- 15:13Speaker 11: able to take him down.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Senator I will say I think the Wall Street Journal
- 15:16Speaker 5: did a very good piece on this Monday when they
- 15:19Speaker 5: described the whole thing, and it was definitely a breakdown
- 15:22Speaker 5: of some sort, because, as you said, it should be
- 15:24Speaker 5: and has been in the past, very difficult to get in.
- 15:27Speaker 5: But there was one quote from someone that said all
- 15:29Speaker 5: they apparently needed was to check into the hotel and
- 15:31Speaker 5: that there wouldn't be a problem. So I think something's
- 15:34Speaker 5: got to be addressed.
- 15:35Speaker 11: Yeah, I don't think that's going to be happening again.
- 15:37Speaker 11: I mean, you think about yeah, that's an easy thing.
- 15:40Speaker 11: I'm sure some of the video are the cameras that
- 15:42Speaker 11: they're probably combing through from the day before, probably has
- 15:45Speaker 11: this guy case in the joint measuring his steps and
- 15:48Speaker 11: all those kinds of things. Yeah, and so there were
- 15:52Speaker 11: some breakdowns, but I think all in all, you know,
- 15:54Speaker 11: nobody was hurt. The Secret Service agent that was hit
- 15:57Speaker 11: as fine, And so I think that it's scary and
- 16:04Speaker 11: it's frightening and it shouldn't be happening.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Talking to Senator Shelley Moore, Capito also, I didn't want
- 16:09Speaker 5: to mention early voting begins to day across the state
- 16:11Speaker 5: to West Virginia. So I'm sure you want to take
- 16:12Speaker 5: time to encourage people to get out and vote.
- 16:15Speaker 11: Yes, I think you know, when early voting first came about,
- 16:18Speaker 11: I thought, oh, this really won't you know a lot
- 16:20Speaker 11: of people. Some people will do it, but you know
- 16:23Speaker 11: it won't be taken up in the measures that everybody thought.
- 16:26Speaker 11: And I was wrong on that. I mean, I think
- 16:28Speaker 11: that's over forty percent of the actual vote is expected
- 16:31Speaker 11: to be early voting. So I've voted early many times
- 16:35Speaker 11: in Kanawk County. I encourage everybody to vote with early voting.
- 16:38Speaker 11: That alleviates your excuses on election day, and so get
- 16:43Speaker 11: yourself and your family down there to vote. It's a
- 16:45Speaker 11: great American habit. This is our two hundred and fiftieth anniversary.
- 16:49Speaker 11: We should celebrate our right to vote.
- 16:51Speaker 5: And I'm going to go over those lists a little
- 16:53Speaker 5: bit later on the show. Senator Capitol of the places
- 16:55Speaker 5: in Kanawak County and Putnam County that you can early vote.
- 16:57Speaker 5: I want to ask you about the goings on with
- 17:00Speaker 5: the Department of Education. Now, you chaired a sub committee
- 17:03Speaker 5: on the budget for the Department of Education.
- 17:05Speaker 11: Your takeaway from that, Well, Secretary of McMahon is the
- 17:09Speaker 11: Secretary of Education, and she's been tasked with and I
- 17:12Speaker 11: just think is very has been very successful in making
- 17:16Speaker 11: sure that education dollars really get as close as possible
- 17:20Speaker 11: to the students. So that means states, localities, counties, teachers, parents,
- 17:24Speaker 11: school boards in West Virginia are the ones who are
- 17:27Speaker 11: making the decisions for the education of our students. I mean,
- 17:31Speaker 11: we see the national test scores in West Virginia's in
- 17:33Speaker 11: this category where the students haven't really they've fallen way
- 17:38Speaker 11: behind after COVID and they still haven't recovered. And you know,
- 17:41Speaker 11: I think it's over half of our fourth graders can't
- 17:43Speaker 11: read on a fourth grade level. And that is and
- 17:47Speaker 11: not you know, terrible statistics, not just that, but we
- 17:50Speaker 11: have to find solutions for it. And I think the
- 17:52Speaker 11: solutions are at the localities. I think the West Virginia
- 17:55Speaker 11: legislature did a good job to devote more dollars to
- 17:58Speaker 11: early learning and reading and numerology and adding and subtracting
- 18:03Speaker 11: phonics and all the basics. And I think you see
- 18:06Speaker 11: our test scores moving up slightly, and it's because of
- 18:09Speaker 11: that concentration that our local folks made to how to educate.
- 18:14Speaker 11: So she's been moving, for instance, the Career and Technical
- 18:17Speaker 11: dollars over the Department of Labor, where there's a lot
- 18:20Speaker 11: of workforce. She's been overseeing making sure that the student
- 18:26Speaker 11: loan program gets back on track, where we have over
- 18:28Speaker 11: trillion dollars of unpaid Some people haven't paid anything on
- 18:32Speaker 11: their student loan for five or six years because of
- 18:34Speaker 11: all the confusion during the Biden administration. So she covered
- 18:38Speaker 11: a lot of grounds. She I think is working to
- 18:41Speaker 11: dismantle a large bureaucracy that in the end doesn't help
- 18:45Speaker 11: educate our students, and the money goes, you know, more
- 18:48Speaker 11: block branding down to the states, which I agree with.
- 18:51Speaker 11: For West Virginia's to be able to make our own decision.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Senator Capitol, you posted on X a couple of days ago,
- 18:57Speaker 5: and this is quote now more than ever, we must
- 18:59Speaker 5: find the seek Service along with the entirety of the HS.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Expound upon that.
- 19:05Speaker 11: Well, I mean, I'm very frustrated by this. I mean,
- 19:07Speaker 11: we have voted sixteen seventeen times to fund the whole
- 19:10Speaker 11: entire Department of Homeland Security, which includes a Secret Service,
- 19:14Speaker 11: Coast Guard, and others besides border patrol and the Internal Enforcement,
- 19:20Speaker 11: the ICE and so the You know, honestly, the Democrats
- 19:22Speaker 11: will not vote for this. They voted against funding our
- 19:26Speaker 11: secret Service. We sent a bill over to the House
- 19:30Speaker 11: two or three weeks ago that would fund all of
- 19:32Speaker 11: the functions except for ice and border patrol. And we
- 19:36Speaker 11: said we will come in with a funding mechanism that
- 19:39Speaker 11: would be a what's called reconciliation, which we did last week.
- 19:44Speaker 11: But now everybody kept saying something's going to happen. Well,
- 19:47Speaker 11: you know what, something did happen, and a lot of
- 19:49Speaker 11: those agents, some of them are being paid, some of
- 19:52Speaker 11: them are not. Some of their equipment or the folks
- 19:55Speaker 11: that help them with their expenses. You know that are
- 19:58Speaker 11: contractors with the Secret Service have not been paid. People
- 20:02Speaker 11: can't take this for very long, and they've had to
- 20:05Speaker 11: take it way too long, and it's time to join
- 20:07Speaker 11: together and fund not just the Secret Service, but the
- 20:10Speaker 11: entirety of homeland security.
- 20:13Speaker 5: You in one of your quotes on X and I'm
- 20:16Speaker 5: going to kind of paraphrase this, you basically accused the
- 20:19Speaker 5: Democrats of turning their backs on our nation's law enforcement officers.
- 20:22Speaker 5: I think that was a direct quote. It was a
- 20:24Speaker 5: pretty harsh word.
- 20:25Speaker 11: Senator Well, I think you know when you when you're saying,
- 20:28Speaker 11: and I think Senator Schumer is quoted as saying, nobody
- 20:31Speaker 11: has respect for border patrol or ice enforcement. Excuse me,
- 20:36Speaker 11: During the last administration, ten million people were allowed to
- 20:40Speaker 11: come through the open doors of our border, and our
- 20:45Speaker 11: border agents were really having to manage a situation that
- 20:50Speaker 11: was unmanageable. This President, and with the help of Congress
- 20:53Speaker 11: and others such as myself, have said no, we're not
- 20:56Speaker 11: going to have an open border. We're going to have
- 20:58Speaker 11: an orderly process. But we need border agents for that,
- 21:01Speaker 11: and I have high respect for that. They're disrupting drug trafficking,
- 21:04Speaker 11: which is down fifty three percent, the drug trafficking of
- 21:07Speaker 11: fentanyl is down fifty three percent. But when you see
- 21:10Speaker 11: that the Democrats and the leader of the Democrat Party
- 21:13Speaker 11: here in the Senate basically saying no one has respect.
- 21:16Speaker 11: These guys are putting their lives on the line every
- 21:18Speaker 11: day with dangerous people. I don't think that's harsh language
- 21:23Speaker 11: to say they're turning their back. That's what their verbiage is,
- 21:26Speaker 11: that's what their conversation is, and they think they're scoring
- 21:29Speaker 11: political points. And I'm a very pro law enforcement. I
- 21:34Speaker 11: want to see our lawful lives be restored, and I'm
- 21:41Speaker 11: going to help however I can and be appreciative for
- 21:44Speaker 11: those people that do this very difficult work.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Sender Capitot what's on your agenda today?
- 21:50Speaker 11: Well, today I'm going to have Secretary or the administrator
- 21:54Speaker 11: from the EPA and my EPA Environmental Public Works Committee.
- 21:59Speaker 11: We'll talk about a lot of good work that he's
- 22:01Speaker 11: done on deregulation, on making sure that our energy production
- 22:06Speaker 11: is as good as it is and better than it
- 22:08Speaker 11: can be, just common sense regulation. We'll have him today,
- 22:13Speaker 11: and you know so it'll be a busy day.
- 22:16Speaker 5: Senator Shelley Moore, Capitol. It's always a pleasure for you
- 22:18Speaker 5: to take time.
- 22:18Speaker 11: Wait a minute, I got to meet the King of England. Yes, okay,
- 22:21Speaker 11: that was a big highlight.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Oh there was that that little thing, So tell me
- 22:25Speaker 5: how was how was the King of England?
- 22:27Speaker 11: Well, my fifteen seconds with the King of England and
- 22:31Speaker 11: the Queen he refers to as the Queen, we're pretty cool.
- 22:35Speaker 11: It's one of those like little girl things you think. Man,
- 22:37Speaker 11: if I could ever meet the King of England, well,
- 22:39Speaker 11: I got to meet him and he very nice. I said, hello,
- 22:42Speaker 11: I hope you give a barn burning speech and he said, oh,
- 22:46Speaker 11: I'm not so suched about that, and I moved on.
- 22:49Speaker 11: But I enjoyed his speech a lot. It was very
- 22:52Speaker 11: utifying but it was. It was kind of neat to
- 22:53Speaker 11: meet a king and to meet the queen.
- 22:55Speaker 5: You should invite him back to Knaw County some point.
- 22:58Speaker 5: We'll put him on a four wheeler of cabin creek
- 23:00Speaker 5: or somewhere. Senator, I mean we just he can just
- 23:02Speaker 5: be one of us.
- 23:03Speaker 11: He could be one of us. I'm not sure that's
- 23:06Speaker 11: quite right.
- 23:06Speaker 5: We could sender Shelley Moore Cabinet. Appreciate you being on
- 23:10Speaker 5: the show.

- 28:58Speaker 5: the opportunity. I'm glad I got your number right because
- 29:00Speaker 5: I got the other person's number incorrect. I'll never live

- 29:08Speaker 7: I'm a businessman.
- 29:10Speaker 4: I'm a broadcaster and actually I broadcast out of Clarksburg,
- 29:14Speaker 4: but the TV station is licensed to Fairmont. I'm a farmer.
- 29:19Speaker 4: I'm a mushroom farmer, a bee keeper, and a family man.
- 29:24Speaker 5: So why are you running for office?
- 29:26Speaker 7: You know?
- 29:27Speaker 4: I thought about that when I was listening to some
- 29:28Speaker 4: of the interviews on here, and initially it was about
- 29:32Speaker 4: my daughter. You know, I want her to have a
- 29:35Speaker 4: future here is really what's important to me. And but
- 29:42Speaker 4: I think there are a lot of important issues here,
- 29:45Speaker 4: so I actually wrote. I wrote a lot of them
- 29:48Speaker 4: down so ahead I wouldn't even your time. I wouldn't
- 29:51Speaker 4: want to forget them. But water was a big one
- 29:57Speaker 4: for me because there's a lot of people in my
- 29:59Speaker 4: day district that don't have access to clean water. And uh,
- 30:04Speaker 4: I thought, well that's kind of important. You know, people
- 30:08Speaker 4: die without water.
- 30:09Speaker 5: I want to make sure people realize about the district
- 30:11Speaker 5: that you're in, because you said that you're you're out
- 30:13Speaker 5: of Clarksburg and Fairmount area. But but but you're but
- 30:15Speaker 5: you're running out of.
- 30:16Speaker 7: This area, right. I I live in I live in
- 30:19Speaker 7: Saint All Bells, Okay.
- 30:21Speaker 4: It's District seven, which is the southern part of Kenaw County,
- 30:25Speaker 4: Boone County, Lincoln County, and Logan County. And there are
- 30:28Speaker 4: people there that don't have water, I mean, no access
- 30:31Speaker 4: to clean water. It's a in this day and age,
- 30:34Speaker 4: it's just a it's a horrible shame. But I wanted
- 30:38Speaker 4: to grow. I wanted to I wanted to run because
- 30:40Speaker 4: of my daughter. I want to ensure that she's got
- 30:44Speaker 4: a place here in West Virginia. I mean, you know,
- 30:46Speaker 4: if she's got to have water, we've got to have power,
- 30:49Speaker 4: We've got to have all those things.
- 30:51Speaker 7: So that's why I decided to run.
- 30:54Speaker 5: What are some of the other issues that are important
- 30:56Speaker 5: to you or that you think would be important to voters?
- 30:59Speaker 7: Uh?
- 31:00Speaker 4: Uh, well, it seems to me, you know, with all
- 31:02Speaker 4: the meetings I've been having that, uh, these data centers
- 31:07Speaker 4: are a big problem for some people. But I've been
- 31:11Speaker 4: thinking for a long time that just the corporations themselves.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I mean they're so huge that the corporations themselves have
- 31:19Speaker 4: been the problem. And I think that's been our problem
- 31:22Speaker 4: for a long time in West Virginia. You know, a
- 31:24Speaker 4: big coal company might come in and say, hey, I
- 31:27Speaker 4: want to buy your mountain, but I'll tell you what.
- 31:29Speaker 4: We'll give you a job. We'll give your whole family
- 31:31Speaker 4: a job. You know, really, my whole family gets a job,
- 31:35Speaker 4: and you pay me for my mountain, and then you know,
- 31:38Speaker 4: before we know it, there's you know, you've got eighty
- 31:42Speaker 4: hour work weeks, and everybody's trying to figure out how
- 31:45Speaker 4: to buy a blanket, a blanket with company script. You know,
- 31:50Speaker 4: we just we've been sold down the river our by
- 31:53Speaker 4: our leaders and uh and and bought out and taken in.
- 31:57Speaker 4: And I think what we need to do is all
- 32:00Speaker 4: back control of our own state. I think we've got
- 32:06Speaker 4: to get the people back their power. That's what's important
- 32:10Speaker 4: to me. I think we need to empower West Virginians.
- 32:13Speaker 4: That sounds corny, and I'm sorry, but it's on your heart, man.
- 32:17Speaker 4: We just need to we need to empower West Virginians
- 32:20Speaker 4: because you know, to have what happened with that data center,
- 32:24Speaker 4: and and I don't like the idea that they get,
- 32:26Speaker 4: you know, tax breaks and that kind of thing. And
- 32:29Speaker 4: you know where they're building the data center, for instance,
- 32:31Speaker 4: there's people there. They're building this huge fiber data center
- 32:36Speaker 4: for everybody on the Internet to come down. There's people
- 32:39Speaker 4: out there in Robertsburg where they're building this thing who
- 32:41Speaker 4: don't have access to internet. Up Manilla Creek, they don't
- 32:44Speaker 4: have access to the Internet. You know that they get
- 32:48Speaker 4: to wave with the people going by on the internet
- 32:50Speaker 4: on the fiber, but they don't have access.
- 32:53Speaker 7: Seems weird.
- 32:54Speaker 5: Talking to Michael Carr again, who is running for State
- 32:58Speaker 5: Senate in District seven. Campaign been so far and as
- 33:01Speaker 5: you've been out and about either you know, knocking doors,
- 33:04Speaker 5: sign waving, Canada Form, whatever you've been doing. What has
- 33:07Speaker 5: the response been. What are you hearing from prospective voters.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Well, I'm a Democrat, so what I'm hearing is that
- 33:16Speaker 4: it's an uphill battle. We've got, you know, a lot
- 33:21Speaker 4: of issues in West Virginia, and you know, we can't
- 33:24Speaker 4: really attack all of them. Some people right now, the
- 33:28Speaker 4: person in charge of in the Senate representing our district
- 33:33Speaker 4: was appointed by Governor Morrissey.
- 33:35Speaker 7: Now, I don't know how you feel about carpetbaggers.
- 33:37Speaker 4: I personally don't like them, but you know, when they
- 33:41Speaker 4: appoint someone, it doesn't seem fair. So I'm hearing that
- 33:46Speaker 4: they're glad I'm running. There's a lot more Democrats on
- 33:49Speaker 4: the ballot this year and there have been in recent.
- 33:53Speaker 7: Years, So.
- 33:55Speaker 4: We'd like to claw a little bit in the power
- 33:57Speaker 4: back and start seeding it back to the people of
- 33:59Speaker 4: West Virginia.
- 34:00Speaker 5: You alluded to the fact that it is kind of
- 34:03Speaker 5: difficult for Democrats right now in West Virginia, just as
- 34:06Speaker 5: fifty years ago it was difficult for Republicans in West Virginia.
- 34:09Speaker 5: Is that that's something that you really got Any Democrat,
- 34:12Speaker 5: not just you, has to really try to fight to
- 34:14Speaker 5: overcome in a crowded field of Republicans and a super
- 34:19Speaker 5: duper majority.
- 34:19Speaker 4: It's tough fight, yeah, it is, and but family is
- 34:25Speaker 4: important to me. I couldn't sit around. The worm seems
- 34:28Speaker 4: to be turning though. I mean, you know a lot
- 34:31Speaker 4: of people are disillusioned with what's going on in Washington
- 34:34Speaker 4: right now. So I think, you know, you've got these
- 34:38Speaker 4: enablers here and in other places that are saying, yeah, okay,
- 34:42Speaker 4: go for it. But I think it's it's important for
- 34:45Speaker 4: us to make our own way. You know, West Virginians
- 34:49Speaker 4: are strong, We're robust people were in you know, industrious
- 34:55Speaker 4: and ingenious. We've got you know, that's I think that
- 35:03Speaker 4: if you've got if the deck is stacked against you,
- 35:06Speaker 4: it's it's it's a tough road to hoe.
- 35:08Speaker 7: You know.
- 35:10Speaker 5: Well, And a lot of the area that you were
- 35:12Speaker 5: talking about that you would be serving in sor if
- 35:14Speaker 5: elected in District seven. You know, there's a lot of
- 35:17Speaker 5: red voters in there, a lot.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Of Trump supporters there are, yes, but you know, traditionally
- 35:22Speaker 4: it was it was a Democrat area.
- 35:24Speaker 7: It was a stronghold. You know.
- 35:25Speaker 4: I've been in labor unions working on the radio, working
- 35:32Speaker 4: part of su the uh I forget what it is
- 35:36Speaker 4: now because it was twenty years ago, but doing voiceovers
- 35:39Speaker 4: at Nickelodeon and that kind of thing.
- 35:41Speaker 5: I can't we have we never met each other with
- 35:44Speaker 5: you being in radio.
- 35:45Speaker 7: How's this never happened? You know, I don't know.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Maybe we haven't. We just don't remember.
- 35:48Speaker 7: It could be.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Yeah, so you know we were we used to work
- 35:52Speaker 4: down here at doing West Virginia Capital Report down here,
- 35:54Speaker 4: you know, you know Tommy Seiner, Yes, I was working
- 35:57Speaker 4: with Tommy very lot.
- 35:59Speaker 7: Well. Yeah, and uh so I'm sure.
- 36:02Speaker 5: Okay, probably probably cross paths. There's not that many of.
- 36:04Speaker 7: Us left, so no, there certainly aren't so.
- 36:10Speaker 5: And I understand what you're saying about that area being
- 36:13Speaker 5: traditionally Democrat, because look, I'm originally from Logan County and
- 36:17Speaker 5: we didn't and I told the story before. We didn't
- 36:19Speaker 5: have enough I was read Republican. We didn't have enough
- 36:22Speaker 5: Republicans to serve as poll workers. We had to get
- 36:24Speaker 5: Democrats to serve in the Republicans. Possibly we didn't have enough.
- 36:27Speaker 4: You know, I just heard that problem down in Lincoln
- 36:30Speaker 4: County at one of the last meetings. They said, well,
- 36:32Speaker 4: what if we what do we do if we don't
- 36:33Speaker 4: have enough poll workers? And said, well, we'll make some calls.
- 36:36Speaker 5: And yeah, and that's what we had to do. It
- 36:38Speaker 5: basically to call Secretary of State's office. Then say what
- 36:40Speaker 5: do we do. Do you have a website or social media?
- 36:43Speaker 5: People go on more I do.
- 36:44Speaker 4: It's car for Senate car with the k K A
- 36:48Speaker 4: R R for Senate dot com and you can find
- 36:52Speaker 4: all the information about you know, water issues, ways in
- 36:56Speaker 4: which we can start going after the corporations. I think
- 37:00Speaker 4: that would be I think that would be a big
- 37:02Speaker 4: step in the right direction.
- 37:04Speaker 5: I do a thing with every candidate, Michael, we call
- 37:06Speaker 5: the Final thirty. It's not timed final thirty. Why should
- 37:09Speaker 5: someone vote for Michael Carr Democratics run for State Senate
- 37:12Speaker 5: in districts.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Out Well, I think it's because I've got a plan.
- 37:18Speaker 4: I've got a plan to move us forward, to start
- 37:22Speaker 4: getting back, at least in some small measure, clawing back
- 37:26Speaker 4: some of the powers that have been given away, to
- 37:29Speaker 4: take back some of the you know, tax incentives are
- 37:33Speaker 4: kind of silly. If you have a good business, then
- 37:37Speaker 4: you're going to thrive. If you don't and you need
- 37:39Speaker 4: tax incentives or you know, corporate subsidies, it's just why
- 37:45Speaker 4: do we have to do that, you know. So I
- 37:49Speaker 4: think I've got some good ideas on how we can
- 37:51Speaker 4: attack those big, huge corporations and claw back some of
- 37:54Speaker 4: our power back from them.
- 37:57Speaker 5: Michael Carr, Democrat, running for Westerviginia State Senate District seven.

- 42:52Speaker 5: Tex says, I'll be voting a straight blue tickets for
- 42:57Speaker 5: the first time. Mentioned earlier. Early voting is underway in
- 43:00Speaker 5: West Virginia ten total days, including two Saturdays in Gnaw County.
- 43:03Speaker 5: The locations are, of course at the Voters Building Courier
- 43:06Speaker 5: Street downtown, also the Girls Scouts of Black Diamond Council
- 43:09Speaker 5: on the west end, the Belltown Hall, Elk View Community Center,
- 43:12Speaker 5: the Sheriff's Office and Cross Lanes, the Marmette Town Hall,
- 43:15Speaker 5: the Cistonville Library, Saint Albans City Hall, and the West
- 43:18Speaker 5: Sax Community Center in Nitro that's located at two thirty
- 43:22Speaker 5: four Lee Avenue in Nitro. Election day is Tuesday, May twelfth.
- 43:25Speaker 5: I also do want to mention I talked earlier this
- 43:28Speaker 5: morning with Putnham County Clerk Brian Wood, and early voting
- 43:32Speaker 5: of course underway there too. They are early voting at
- 43:35Speaker 5: Valley Park and also at the Putnam County Courthouse in
- 43:38Speaker 5: Putnam County. A couple of things that Clerk Wood mention,
- 43:43Speaker 5: and I'm sure he's speaking on behalf of all the
- 43:45Speaker 5: county clerk. There's a few things you need to know
- 43:47Speaker 5: on election day. All courthouse hours are actually different between
- 43:53Speaker 5: the counties, and so early voting hours go along with
- 43:56Speaker 5: the hours of the courthouse traditionally. And just know that
- 44:00Speaker 5: in West Virginia fifty five counties. It's not going to
- 44:03Speaker 5: say there's fifty five different sets of hours, but they
- 44:06Speaker 5: go by the courthouse hours. So just know that before
- 44:10Speaker 5: you go to if you're going to do your early voting,
- 44:14Speaker 5: you know late in the day or early, just make
- 44:16Speaker 5: sure it goes along with the courthouse hours. All the
- 44:19Speaker 5: counties have different hours, so just make sure that ahead
- 44:22Speaker 5: of time. Also, don't forget you must have a photo
- 44:26Speaker 5: ID in order to vote. And if you are a
- 44:30Speaker 5: registered independent remember as in the past when you have
- 44:34Speaker 5: gone in if you're a registered independent in instead of
- 44:36Speaker 5: West Virginia, you have been able to go in and
- 44:38Speaker 5: say I would like to have a Democrat ballot or
- 44:42Speaker 5: I'd like to have a Republican ballot. You could still
- 44:44Speaker 5: ask for a Democrat ballot if you want one. You
- 44:47Speaker 5: can still vote obviously a nonpartisan races, you know, your
- 44:49Speaker 5: Board of Education and things of that nature. But if
- 44:52Speaker 5: you are an independent, you cannot go in and ask
- 44:55Speaker 5: for a Republican ballot. This was a decision made by
- 44:57Speaker 5: the State Republican Party Executive committee a couple years ago.
- 45:01Speaker 5: So I just want to make sure we've been talking
- 45:04Speaker 5: about it ever since it happened. But trust me, it's
- 45:08Speaker 5: going to happen that somebody's going to go in as
- 45:10Speaker 5: a registered independent and they're going to say, I'm an independent,
- 45:13Speaker 5: but I want to vote, but I would like you
- 45:15Speaker 5: to give me a Republican ballot. That is not the case.
- 45:18Speaker 5: That was a decision that was made by the State
- 45:21Speaker 5: Republican Party's executive committee. It is not the fault of
- 45:24Speaker 5: the poll workers, So don't take it out on them.
- 45:27Speaker 5: It's not the legislature. They didn't do it. Secretary of State, etc. Now,
- 45:32Speaker 5: you may be perfectly happy with it, and that's fine
- 45:34Speaker 5: if you are, but if you're not, it's not their fault.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Of course I do wonder might do. We will have
- 45:39Speaker 5: the best election coverage around here in WCCHS at the
- 45:42Speaker 5: Metro News Radio Network on Election Night. Coming up later today,

- 47:34Speaker 5: Why wasn't the emergency broadcast system activated? That's not a
- 47:38Speaker 5: question I can answer, because that's not something that television
- 47:41Speaker 5: or radio stations have any say so over. It just happens,
- 47:44Speaker 5: It just goes off. I do not know. I do
- 47:48Speaker 5: not know. Tex says need to keep an eye on

- 48:02Speaker 5: in every county. I can tell you because I used
- 48:04Speaker 5: to be one of those people. Texas a free country.
- 48:07Speaker 5: I should be allowed to vote for who I choose,
- 48:09Speaker 5: no matter how our registry as it's exster. I want
- 48:12Speaker 5: to direct your story to a story posted this morning
- 48:14Speaker 5: at WCCHS network dot com and at the website WV
- 48:18Speaker 5: Metronews dot com, and it has to do with the
- 48:21Speaker 5: John Lucas situation. The attorney for the family in the situation,
- 48:25Speaker 5: Scott Summers, is asking people to tone it down a
- 48:31Speaker 5: little bit with all the rumor and.
- 48:34Speaker 7: Etc.
- 48:35Speaker 5: That surround the case. He put out a long statement
- 48:39Speaker 5: on Facebook saying listen to me, now, this is the
- 48:44Speaker 5: words from the family, the family attorney, saying there is
- 48:48Speaker 5: zero evidence of a cover up. He had praise for
- 48:54Speaker 5: the Kanawh County Prosecutor's office as well, and said it's
- 48:57Speaker 5: not true that there is some sort of family relationship
- 49:01Speaker 5: between any of these workers, the UMAs workers and the
- 49:04Speaker 5: Sheriff's department, and that the public this is all coming
- 49:07Speaker 5: from the attorney for the family, okay, Scott Summers, and
- 49:14Speaker 5: that the public is not entitled to see any video
- 49:18Speaker 5: while the investigation is going on, period, And you are
- 49:23Speaker 5: and they are absolutely he is the attorney for the
- 49:26Speaker 5: family in this case is one hundred percent correct on
- 49:29Speaker 5: that this is an ongoing investigation. And I've seen the
- 49:33Speaker 5: post of you how I don't know any of the
- 49:35Speaker 5: parties involved, but I have seen the post after posts
- 49:38Speaker 5: as I'm sure you have on social media with people
- 49:40Speaker 5: wanting justice, that's all well, and good people protesting. It's America.
- 49:45Speaker 5: That's all well and good, but people saying release this video.
- 49:48Speaker 5: In that video, the public is not entitled to see
- 49:51Speaker 5: that while the investigation is going on now after the fact, yes,
- 49:55Speaker 5: but this is an ongoing investigation, and as this continues,
- 49:59Speaker 5: all well, all by well meaning people, you are jeopardizing
- 50:03Speaker 5: the investigation.
- 50:05Speaker 7: Folks.
- 50:06Speaker 5: I'm sure that it's on your heart and you want
- 50:09Speaker 5: to do the right thing. And I have one hundred
- 50:11Speaker 5: percent to understand that. And as a citizen, everybody wants
- 50:14Speaker 5: justice to be served, they want the right they want
- 50:16Speaker 5: the right things to happen, and in this particular case,
- 50:18Speaker 5: but according to the attorney for the family is saying,
- 50:23Speaker 5: died it back a little bit okay, And that there
- 50:26Speaker 5: again is I mean, I have seen, my god, the
- 50:29Speaker 5: most incredible things out there on social media. I should
- 50:32Speaker 5: be used to it right now. I'm not new to
- 50:34Speaker 5: social media. I should be useful. But some of the
- 50:35Speaker 5: things I've heard that the drivers were related to this
- 50:39Speaker 5: person and that person and so on, so well, according
- 50:42Speaker 5: to the attorney for the family, that's not true. And
- 50:43Speaker 5: that's all I can tell you is what the family
- 50:45Speaker 5: and the attorney for the family is saying. If you
- 50:47Speaker 5: want to read the exact post for yourself shouldn't be
- 50:50Speaker 5: hard to find on social media. You can go to
- 50:52Speaker 5: our website wv metronews dot com and we have it
- 50:55Speaker 5: in the story, the entire post from Scott Summers, the
- 50:58Speaker 5: attorney for the family.
- 51:00Speaker 7: And if you're.
- 51:00Speaker 5: Sharing any of these rumors on Facebook, you are hurting
- 51:03Speaker 5: the investigation period. TJ. Meadows, how's it going good?
- 51:09Speaker 16: People got to get their dopamine hit, they got to
- 51:11Speaker 16: feel important, they got to get the clicks. It's not
- 51:13Speaker 16: any different from what happened Saturday when people started saying
- 51:16Speaker 16: the whole thing in Washington was staged. People got to
- 51:19Speaker 16: get there, you know, they got to get there.
- 51:20Speaker 7: That's what this is on.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Look, it's all in my opinion, and I've read all
- 51:23Speaker 5: of this, and again I don't know the party is involved,
- 51:25Speaker 5: and my heart breaks for everyone involved in this. But
- 51:30Speaker 5: and I'm sure the people are well meaning that are
- 51:32Speaker 5: but but I mean some of the stuff that is
- 51:34Speaker 5: out there, man, it's just insane. And this person's covering
- 51:37Speaker 5: up and well, according to the attorney for the family,
- 51:39Speaker 5: there is no cover up.
- 51:40Speaker 16: And kudos to Scott Summer, absolutely because that is the
- 51:43Speaker 16: right way to do things.
- 51:45Speaker 5: The visual the other night that's fine, have that.
- 51:48Speaker 16: I'm one percent no one, but but all this social
- 51:50Speaker 16: media stuff, you are entirely correct.
- 51:52Speaker 5: It's it's just although what's going to happen is it's
- 51:55Speaker 5: going to be nothing's going to happen here locally. It's
- 51:57Speaker 5: you know, if the charges are filed, they're going to
- 51:58Speaker 5: go out of here.
- 51:59Speaker 2: All right.
