- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Ooh, so let's talk about doing things to completion, or at
- 0:33least our version of completion. Interesting concept to start, to
- 0:38think about taken to your life, is our version of completion,
- 0:42our version of great, our version of done.
- 0:45Our version of fantastic is typically not the same as
- 0:50another human. This is why we end up in so much
- 0:54communication conflict and not being able to stay in the right
- 0:59headspace with people Because we have different standards, we
- 1:03have different outcomes. And when we think about it in
- 1:05terms of our daily life and saying, well, like let's use the
- 1:09kitchen. For example.
- 1:10How do you clean the kitchen to completion?
- 1:13I know I have a very different version of this.
- 1:17Then my husband does. Now this is obviously humorous
- 1:21because we have such different versions of things and yes, it
- 1:24is true. We have very different versions
- 1:26of things. My husband is by all accounts a
- 1:29very Eat guy like he keeps his stuff organized.
- 1:33He is clean. He is not untidy, but his
- 1:37version of cleaning up the kitchen and my version of
- 1:40cleaning up. The kitchen are two very
- 1:42different things when I clean up, the kitchen.
- 1:45Everything is wiped down everything.
- 1:47I mean, I even squeegee the inside of my sink, and I know
- 1:50that sounds insane. But I've got the stainless steel
- 1:52farm sink, and I just cannot stand to have it all mucked up
- 1:57with water spots, but that's my gig and I'm not I learned over
- 2:01the years not to get annoyed by the fact that he does not
- 2:03squeeze you this think the way I squeegee this think so it's not
- 2:07worth it, it's not worth the aggravation, but the point of
- 2:10this is using, this is just as an example is that we have two
- 2:14different versions of this. So if I say, can you please
- 2:17clean the kitchen, please? Well, I do something else.
- 2:21His version of it is going to be different than mine now.
- 2:24Does that mean that I have the right to get annoyed when it's
- 2:26not the right way? No, I don't.
- 2:30And I say, That laughingly, that it's the right way because it's
- 2:33my way. So, of course, I think it's the
- 2:34right way and we often as humans, get stuck in that.
- 2:39And when you start to notice how this shows up in your work
- 2:42world, how this shows up around your expectations, with your
- 2:46spouse's, your children, your partners, we start to realize
- 2:50how often the conflicts are based in our different versions
- 2:55of doing things to completion and having different standards
- 2:59for it. Now, we Realize we have
- 3:01different standards if you have the conversation, logically, we
- 3:04go. Oh, yeah.
- 3:04Well, I know we have different standards for things and it we
- 3:09make it like it's like, oh yeah, I know.
- 3:11But no, he's something and actually doing something about
- 3:13it, are two completely different things knowing something and
- 3:16actually taking care on it and saying, okay, yes we are very
- 3:19different people. We have very different setups
- 3:21and we think differently to different things my friends, so
- 3:25where we get so messed up so easily is the lack of Grace.
- 3:30You for understanding the other person and I am completely
- 3:33guilty of this. I want you to realize it.
- 3:35I am completely guilty of this. If I am not on my game where I
- 3:39am paying attention to the chatter in my head, my certainty
- 3:42girl will take over and she will be annoyed that he did not see
- 3:46all the sticky stuff in the kitchen when he finished
- 3:50quote-unquote cleaning up in and that's what goes off in my head
- 3:53and I'm doing it. So you see it, I'll go, this
- 3:55isn't clean. But again to completion, I've
- 3:59had multiple conversations. The people in the last couple
- 4:02weeks where they're talking about people that they've hired
- 4:04who don't do the job to completion there, like they go
- 4:0880% of the way and then they stopped, and they're so
- 4:10frustrated by it. And I'm like, please understand.
- 4:15Did you communicate your level of what completion was and they
- 4:19pause and I said, they say, well, we discussed what was the
- 4:23job entailed? And I might did they get the job
- 4:26done? Yes.
- 4:28But and there's always the yes, Yes.
- 4:30But well yes but piece of it that's so tricky.
- 4:33Is is that? Yes, but coming from your lack
- 4:37of explanation of what done actually looked like, what did
- 4:41completion actually look like? And so we have to take ownership
- 4:45of it and say, hey wait a second, I didn't necessarily say
- 4:49all the details I needed to say and that's the part that's so
- 4:53tricky. So do yourself a favor, really
- 4:56sit down and before you go into something with someone, Really
- 5:01understand. Am I explaining this full to the
- 5:04fullest extent that I need to? So they can get to completion
- 5:07because it's on us. The onus is on us to make sure
- 5:11we're doing and explaining it the right way.
- 5:13When I tell my son, here's your pile of clothes, put them away.
- 5:17I don't just stop there. I say put them away the way.
- 5:20I would put them away, not the way you would put them away and
- 5:23he always laughs because if he put them away they would be in
- 5:26one lump in the corner of his closet.
- 5:29When I put them away I saw Get them all out and believe me.
- 5:32If I don't add that last phrase, he doesn't do it that way.
- 5:36He'll just stick them in there and you think to yourself, I've
- 5:40said it enough, doesn't he know? Well, here's the thing.
- 5:43Humans were really interesting creatures.
- 5:47Maybe he knows it, but maybe he doesn't care.
- 5:49And he thinks if you don't say it, then he doesn't have to
- 5:52care. So, something to think about,
- 5:55and make sure your communication is all about that.
- 5:59All right, my friends. I hope you.
- 6:00You have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:03Bye. You have a blessed day and I
- 6:02will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
