- 1:34Speaker 3: Right? That's tomorrow night. That's a big one.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Florida State freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard took a major step
- 1:41Speaker 1: forward in his recovery from in August thirty first shooting.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Was released today from the hospital and going to a
- 1:50Speaker 1: rehab of facility. Florida State says Pritchard is alert, responsive,
- 1:56Speaker 1: able to communicate. Three men named Minor faced three counts

- 2:10Speaker 1: Right before the Michigan USC game this weekend kick off
- 2:15Speaker 1: six thirty our time. The coliseum in La has sold out.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Hadn't happened very much. Sharon Moore said, we're not celebrating
- 2:25Speaker 1: going to the coliseum. There's no pictures and selfies because
- 2:28Speaker 1: we're at the nice coliseum. It's sold out, but it's
- 2:32Speaker 1: sold out cause Michigan's coming. Lincoln Riley, asked about those comments,
- 2:36Speaker 1: said I don't really care what he says. We're looking
- 2:39Speaker 1: forward to playing.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Let's see it didn't take long for the Houston Astros
- 2:47Speaker 1: to blow everything up.
- 2:49Speaker 3: They have fired just about everybody on Joe.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Aspota's staff, including veteran hitting coach Alan Cintron. It was
- 2:58Speaker 1: his ninth year with the Astros, seventh year as Major
- 3:01Speaker 1: league hitting coach. There are others, hitting coach Tony Snicker,
- 3:09Speaker 1: catching coach Michael Collins, athletic director Jeremiah Randall. Houston had
- 3:15Speaker 1: lots of key injuries, so by all means, let's blame
- 3:18Speaker 1: it on the trainer panic mode for the Astros as
- 3:22Speaker 1: they blow everything up. That's sad to see, isn't it.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Phillies Dodgers this afternoon in about an hour. That is
- 3:32Speaker 1: Game four, LA at home lost last night. They can
- 3:38Speaker 1: win tonight and advance Brewers Cubs at Wrigley. The Cubs
- 3:45Speaker 1: need a win to stay alive. Last night, the Dodgers
- 3:51Speaker 1: got short pitching tan Or Scott absent for quote personal
- 3:56Speaker 1: matter to whether left handed relievers had already been used.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Dave Roberts didn't.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Want to use his three high leverage receivers, two of
- 4:05Speaker 1: them converted to starting pitchers, So in the eighth inning
- 4:09Speaker 1: they bring on Clayton Kershaw.
- 4:12Speaker 3: That was tough. To watch.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Kershaw ended up getting sacked with five runs, and you
- 4:22Speaker 1: know he's already announced his retirement. He wasn't on the
- 4:26Speaker 1: roster early in the wild card series. Just didn't make
- 4:30Speaker 1: enough good pitches, said Kershaw.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I was battling command.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It's hard when you're trying to throw strikes as opposed
- 4:36Speaker 1: to getting people out.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Wasn't a fun thing.
- 4:40Speaker 1: The Dallas Stars finally on the ice tonight. We've had
- 4:44Speaker 1: two days worth of NHL games waiting for the Stars.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They're in Winnipeg to take on the Jets. The Glenn
- 4:52Speaker 1: Gulletson Era begins this evening.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Miami Heat coach Eric Spolstra.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Is going to lead the US men's basketball team during
- 5:03Speaker 1: the next Olympic cycle. He'll coach the squad at the
- 5:09Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven World Cup in Cutter and will lead
- 5:14Speaker 1: it at the twenty twenty eight Summer Olympics in LA,
- 5:17Speaker 1: replacing Steve Kerr, who led the team to a fourth
- 5:22Speaker 1: place World Cup finish but an Olympic gold in Paris
- 5:26Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. Dean Smith, Bob Knight, Chuck Daily,
- 5:32Speaker 1: Mike Skryzhewsky, Greg Popovich, having all been Olympic coaches John
- 5:39Speaker 1: Rom and Shane Lowry struggled to return to form after
- 5:44Speaker 1: the Ryder Cup in Madrid at the Spanish Open, leading
- 5:48Speaker 1: Rom to briefly argue with a Marshall after his drive
- 5:52Speaker 1: found the left rough on the par four eighth told
- 5:56Speaker 1: Rom saw his lives, started complaining, what a day today, exploitive.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The Marshall, who marked the ball, told Rom it's okay.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Rom said, don't tell me it's okay. Please, thank you.
- 6:12Speaker 1: The Marshall apologized as he walked away, while Rom continued
- 6:16Speaker 1: complaining it's not okay.
- 6:19Speaker 3: So my thought is.
- 6:22Speaker 1: The European team still hungover from the Ryder Cup. Rom
- 6:27Speaker 1: part of the whole bogie. The next finished one over
- 6:30Speaker 1: seventy two. So I mean, come on, like I said,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I think some of them are still hungover from the
- 6:41Speaker 1: Ryder Cup. I want to tell you that tomorrow I
- 6:44Speaker 1: will visit with Kirk Bowles, our usual Friday visit and
- 6:48Speaker 1: see how things are in Austin, and we will talk
- 6:52Speaker 1: to Tony Catalina and see how things are at Kyle Field.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Probably two different conversations tomorrow on the program. Monday, We've
- 7:03Speaker 1: got the Writer's round Table and I'm going to be
- 7:06Speaker 1: visiting with crime author Skip Hollandsworth, who has written so
- 7:12Speaker 1: many great stories for Texas Monthly books. Books have become movies, Bernie,
- 7:18Speaker 1: if you'll remember that with Jack Black about that true
- 7:20Speaker 1: story murder he is. There has been a book compiled
- 7:27Speaker 1: with his articles from Texas Monthly on female murderers. It's
- 7:33Speaker 1: called She Kills and it is It is great. Hollinsworth
- 7:39Speaker 1: is a great author, great writer. We will visit with
- 7:42Speaker 1: him on Monday. So we got that going on for us,
- 7:48Speaker 1: which is which is okay, It's okay, Okay, I'm gonna
- 7:53Speaker 1: take a break. We've got Bucky coming up. We're gonna
- 7:57Speaker 1: talk a little basketball. He visited with members of the
- 8:01Speaker 1: media yesterday. Let them in on a little bit of practice.
- 8:08Speaker 1: We have got a high school report. We have got
- 8:11Speaker 1: Cashius Howell who's been pretty good, and coach Elko said
- 8:17Speaker 1: last night on the radio show that Scooby will be back.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He is listed as questionable, but again Elko said Scooby
- 8:29Speaker 1: will return to the game on Saturday. Has been out
- 8:32Speaker 1: since the Notre Dame game. Okay, We're going to take
- 8:35Speaker 1: a break. The Final Lap brought to you by Anco Insurance.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Enco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 8:43Speaker 4: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 8:46Speaker 4: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 8:49Speaker 4: you know and trust. Now with even more to offer
- 8:51Speaker 4: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits, We're
- 8:55Speaker 4: still committed to protecting what matters most with the personalized
- 8:58Speaker 4: service you expect the strength of Hub International behind us,
- 9:02Speaker 4: more resources, more solutions, still your team and co insurance
- 9:06Speaker 4: a Hub International company, So you're ready for tomorrow.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Ryan Priese is on he is not a Round of
- 9:14Speaker 5: eight driver, so not in the playoffs currently. So as
- 9:17Speaker 5: a driver with all of this going on around you,
- 9:20Speaker 5: how do you stay motivated as a race car driver.
- 9:22Speaker 6: We're still racing for our team and the seasons that
- 9:25Speaker 6: we have going on. So I didn't I didn't make
- 9:28Speaker 6: the playoff format. You know, in other forms of sports,
- 9:33Speaker 6: when you're not in the playoffs, you're not you're not playing. Well,
- 9:37Speaker 6: We're still playing, you know, we're still we're still part
- 9:40Speaker 6: of these races. So yeah, from a bigger picture standpoint,
- 9:45Speaker 6: within the Ford group, Joey and and Ryan Blaney, you know, we.
- 9:49Speaker 7: Want the best for them.
- 9:50Speaker 6: We want them to go to Phoenix and and you know,
- 9:54Speaker 6: go get forward to another you know, another title, but
- 9:57Speaker 6: at the same at the same time, you know, going
- 10:00Speaker 6: to Las Vegas, Talladega, Martinsville and Phoenix. We need to
- 10:05Speaker 6: go capitalize for Jack, for the Fenway group, for Brad
- 10:09Speaker 6: and put ourselves in contention to win. And if I
- 10:13Speaker 6: just chose to ride around in fifteenth or tenth or
- 10:16Speaker 6: whatever not try to win the race, I wouldn't be
- 10:19Speaker 6: doing myself justice, my family justice, or the team justice.
- 10:22Speaker 6: So you know, every situation is different. I didn't I
- 10:25Speaker 6: didn't make this format, and I still have to race
- 10:27Speaker 6: for my team. That is that is our job and
- 10:30Speaker 6: how I approach a weekend. You know, from a racing perspective,
- 10:34Speaker 6: as a race car driver, it's to win.
- 10:36Speaker 3: You're on the final lap.
- 10:38Speaker 8: Let me tell you about this new Pretzel Cheddar Club. Hey,
- 10:42Speaker 8: I'm Carlos and I'm Ebony and a little thing we

- 11:44Speaker 12: Ships Got ships ship how Ee Sports Style.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us here on this Thursday day of
- 12:01Speaker 1: the program.
- 12:04Speaker 3: While I'm thinking about it, I have this in my hand.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and tell people that they have a
- 12:10Speaker 1: little more than twenty four hours to sign up for
- 12:13Speaker 1: week seven's Frodday's Sperrill's Football Forecast Contest, brought to you
- 12:17Speaker 1: by Swernaman Floring and Chad Jones Law.
- 12:20Speaker 3: There's ten games on the docket.
- 12:24Speaker 1: We try to do about ten a week, not about
- 12:26Speaker 1: exactly ten a week. Somebody's going to win a valuable
- 12:29Speaker 1: weekly prize, somebody is going to get their name engraved
- 12:33Speaker 1: on the cuff. You have until five o'clock tomorrow afternoon
- 12:36Speaker 1: to make your fix. General reminder, our tie breaker is Alabama,
- 12:43Speaker 1: Missouri College Station, Cedar Creek, Harker Heights, Bryan, Indiana, Oregon, Florida, Texas,
- 12:55Speaker 1: A and m Oklahoma, Texas, South.
- 12:59Speaker 14: Florida, North Texas, Michigan, USC Arizona State and Utah and
- 13:07Speaker 14: the Cowboys and the Panthers.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Those are the ten games were picking this week. No
- 13:14Speaker 1: one said it was ever going to be easy. Froddie's
- 13:18Speaker 1: Fearless Football Forecast Contest is a division of Sports Talk.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It's America's most loved football Pick Them contest for entertainment
- 13:28Speaker 1: and competitive purposes only, Please no gambling. Freddie's Fearless Football
- 13:33Speaker 1: Forecast contest is brought to you each and every week
- 13:36Speaker 1: by Chad Jones Law and Swernemann Flory. Okay, basketball season
- 13:47Speaker 1: is kind of around the corner. I think October fifteenth
- 13:51Speaker 1: is first official practice date, although I don't know how
- 13:56Speaker 1: that works anymore. I need to talk to people who
- 13:58Speaker 1: know more about that, because they practice almost every day,
- 14:01Speaker 1: but I don't know what official practice day means. And
- 14:07Speaker 1: they will all get together next week, all the SEC
- 14:12Speaker 1: coaches and players. Not quite as big a deal as
- 14:17Speaker 1: football media days, not quite as big a deal, but
- 14:24Speaker 1: we will hear from coaches and players and we'll try
- 14:27Speaker 1: to do some of that for you. Bucky met with
- 14:34Speaker 1: reporters yesterday, and let's hear a little bit about what
- 14:38Speaker 1: he had to say.
- 14:40Speaker 15: Reaction to where Rayshawn's situation is and any excitement over
- 14:45Speaker 15: where that seems to be.
- 14:47Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, we're obviously going to support him.
- 14:49Speaker 16: You know, you always hope for favorable outcome for an athlete.
- 14:53Speaker 16: Love the kid, great leader, great person, So you know
- 14:56Speaker 16: we'll find out here more next week or so?
- 15:00Speaker 15: Hearing set for tomorrow?
- 15:00Speaker 5: Is that right?
- 15:01Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 15:02Speaker 16: Hearing said short time and thinking maybe moved Actually uh too,
- 15:06Speaker 16: but it will be within the next week.
- 15:08Speaker 7: Yeah, so yeah, How exactly does that work for you guys?
- 15:11Speaker 7: Do you guys get with them?
- 15:12Speaker 3: Does he have a lawyer?
- 15:13Speaker 16: Like it's his situation because you know, I got to
- 15:16Speaker 16: file it on his own behalf.
- 15:17Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying.
- 15:18Speaker 16: I'll obviously, you know, we'll support any of our athletes
- 15:21Speaker 16: when they're going through anything. Obviously, something that relates to
- 15:25Speaker 16: something that's very important to him, I'm going to go
- 15:27Speaker 16: support coach.
- 15:29Speaker 17: A lot of the guys have been talking about messing together,
- 15:30Speaker 17: working together, how it's kind of clicking for them from
- 15:33Speaker 17: your set, from your point of view, how's everything looking?
- 15:35Speaker 17: How does the team coming together?
- 15:36Speaker 7: You know, as good as it can be, That's what
- 15:38Speaker 7: I would say, right to have all new players.
- 15:42Speaker 16: You know, it's not going to be I gonna win
- 15:45Speaker 16: an oscar them opening night, right, but as good as
- 15:49Speaker 16: it can be considering the circumstances.
- 15:52Speaker 1: When you look at that challenge from when you first
- 15:54Speaker 1: uh got here to now, do you think it's been
- 15:57Speaker 1: easier harder?
- 15:58Speaker 18: About the same as what you thought.
- 16:03Speaker 7: You know, I would say that they're older.
- 16:05Speaker 16: So most of the time when you have zero continuity,
- 16:09Speaker 16: I mean, you look like you're just fifteen random people
- 16:14Speaker 16: that showed up having to wear the same color shirt.
- 16:17Speaker 16: Since they're older guys, they do know what wins because
- 16:20Speaker 16: they've been around college basketball long enough, so they do
- 16:23Speaker 16: have older eyes. What I can say is that there's
- 16:28Speaker 16: going to be his and lows, But.
- 16:31Speaker 7: Veteran players have.
- 16:33Speaker 16: Been through this before and have been through the lows,
- 16:36Speaker 16: and the response to getting to the innsay tournament, is
- 16:40Speaker 16: you performing at your very best. And so I think
- 16:43Speaker 16: if we all focus on how can this team reach
- 16:47Speaker 16: its potential, then it give us our best chance to
- 16:50Speaker 16: reach its potential instead of thinking, all right, hey, so
- 16:54Speaker 16: results were it in we won, we lost, ships sinking,
- 16:57Speaker 16: or we won.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Everything's incredible. Less relax. We can all stay positive and
- 17:02Speaker 7: focused on getting better every single day.
- 17:05Speaker 16: Then you get yourself the best opportunity to be there
- 17:07Speaker 16: at the end of the season to play for a
- 17:09Speaker 16: national championship, and that's when you're in. Then say tournament,
- 17:11Speaker 16: that's what you're doing. So seniors understand that more you've
- 17:14Speaker 16: heard the saying you know Freshmen want to play. Sophomores
- 17:18Speaker 16: want to start, Juniors want to score, seniors want to win.
- 17:21Speaker 16: We do have a lot of upperclassmen, so I think
- 17:23Speaker 16: they understand a lot what it takes to win, even
- 17:26Speaker 16: though they hadn't played with each other for a very
- 17:28Speaker 16: long time.
- 17:28Speaker 15: How did Ruben get on Chi y'all's radar? And how
- 17:32Speaker 15: how much more complicated is a recruiting pitch for that
- 17:35Speaker 15: situation than just maybe a guy from high school right
- 17:38Speaker 15: here something like that.
- 17:39Speaker 16: Yeah, the market is so big and recruiting right now
- 17:44Speaker 16: because they're allowing these players have played professionally to come
- 17:49Speaker 16: to the US right now, and the overseas game, excuse me,
- 17:53Speaker 16: is has.
- 17:54Speaker 7: Gone to another levels.
- 17:56Speaker 16: I mean they're talking about at some point in time,
- 17:57Speaker 16: you may have more Europeans in the NBA and internationals
- 18:01Speaker 16: and the NBA and Americans. So obviously because of that,
- 18:04Speaker 16: since it's growing overseas, your radars are ever your radars everywhere.
- 18:09Speaker 16: The SEC, let's let's keep it real, was the best
- 18:14Speaker 16: league in the history of college basketball last year for
- 18:17Speaker 16: players wanting to play at a high level. That's intriguing.
- 18:20Speaker 16: The SEC was the highest paid league in the world
- 18:25Speaker 16: last year.
- 18:25Speaker 7: Besides the NBA, So you know, them getting.
- 18:30Speaker 16: On our levels, you know, is one thing, but these
- 18:34Speaker 16: players want to be on our level, you know. And
- 18:39Speaker 16: Ruben is known in Spain, which is a basketball country, right,
- 18:43Speaker 16: it's big over there. Is one of the best shooters
- 18:47Speaker 16: in Spain and he's one of the best shooters in
- 18:49Speaker 16: the world. So we knew about him, but he needed
- 18:51Speaker 16: to find.
- 18:51Speaker 7: A place that fit the way he plays.
- 18:53Speaker 16: And we've always been the top ten the country in
- 18:55Speaker 16: three point attempts, so it was an easy sell for
- 18:58Speaker 16: us to try to get him here. What's his transition been,
- 19:01Speaker 16: like being a pro guy now adjusting kind of the
- 19:04Speaker 16: college game.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Rules and then also totally different countries.
- 19:08Speaker 16: Well, have about hanging to class in five years, think
- 19:10Speaker 16: about that. So we're talking to him, you know, and
- 19:12Speaker 16: he's like, how's it the adest just school? I mean
- 19:14Speaker 16: it's going five years.
- 19:15Speaker 7: Right, So I mean that's the funny part.
- 19:17Speaker 16: And he's such a good kid and like so respectful,
- 19:20Speaker 16: what a great kid, And so that's his biggest you know,
- 19:24Speaker 16: just adjustment to to that. And then you know language,
- 19:27Speaker 16: you know, there's some language barriers there that he's getting
- 19:30Speaker 16: used to.
- 19:31Speaker 7: Uh.
- 19:31Speaker 16: I think that and he's a great offensive player, have
- 19:35Speaker 16: probably hadn't spent a lot of time on defense. Like
- 19:37Speaker 16: everybody's done defensive slides. I remember I saw it. So
- 19:40Speaker 16: anyone not done this drill and you know, just trying
- 19:45Speaker 16: to outscore you, right. So I think understanding like the
- 19:49Speaker 16: physicality and then the defense that's going to be played
- 19:51Speaker 16: at this level is probably the biggest difference.
- 19:55Speaker 19: You're to meet you coach on Colton, how do how
- 19:57Speaker 19: do you and this team like hold each other accountable?
- 20:00Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 20:00Speaker 16: I think the biggest deal is what I said is
- 20:02Speaker 16: just focus on, you know, not what we're trying to do,
- 20:06Speaker 16: how we can do it right, how we're going to
- 20:08Speaker 16: do this, and what is the what are we trying
- 20:11Speaker 16: to reach our potential? At this point, you got your team,
- 20:14Speaker 16: you have your players. Let's reach our potential. And so
- 20:17Speaker 16: that's holding everyone accountable that we work hard every day
- 20:20Speaker 16: as hard as we can possibly work.
- 20:22Speaker 7: That we're unselfish.
- 20:23Speaker 16: It's not about me, it's not about Ruben, it's not
- 20:26Speaker 16: about Mackenzie.
- 20:27Speaker 7: It's about this unit. And then I think we do that.
- 20:30Speaker 16: You have a lot of confidence when you play, and
- 20:32Speaker 16: you have a lot of confidence in your group because you're.
- 20:34Speaker 7: Not playing to win or lose.
- 20:36Speaker 16: You're playing to do your best and that will give
- 20:38Speaker 16: you the best chance to win, right and thinking long term,
- 20:43Speaker 16: knowing this like one of the things that I tell
- 20:46Speaker 16: our team when we go over something like the game plan.
- 20:48Speaker 16: I always say, here's what we're going to do, here's
- 20:50Speaker 16: how we're going to try to do it, and guess what,
- 20:52Speaker 16: it's not going to go according to plan. Here's a
- 20:54Speaker 16: game plan. The game plan is not going to go
- 20:55Speaker 16: according to plan, So be ready for that. Right. Well,
- 21:00Speaker 16: it's saying about the season, thinking about missing a million
- 21:02Speaker 16: threes in a row. But we're gonna have some times
- 21:03Speaker 16: that we don't make shots. We're gonna have.
- 21:06Speaker 7: Games where we may go on losing streaks.
- 21:08Speaker 16: It's not always gonna go according to playing Now they're
- 21:10Speaker 16: psychologically ready to recover from that.
- 21:14Speaker 15: Coach.
- 21:15Speaker 17: A lot of the guys been talking about just the
- 21:17Speaker 17: shooter that Ruben is. Obviously you recruited the guy who's
- 21:19Speaker 17: a high level shooter. But since they got here, everyone's
- 21:21Speaker 17: been blown away from a coach's perspective. Have you kind
- 21:23Speaker 17: of seen and joined in that sentiment, it's been outwardly almost.
- 21:28Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean, he makes seventy four threes in a
- 21:29Speaker 16: row and then the next day came back and made
- 21:31Speaker 16: seventy three in a row. Right, I mean, like that's
- 21:34Speaker 16: that's that's impressive. So we're not playing horse, but if
- 21:38Speaker 16: we're playing Horse would be really good because there's element
- 21:40Speaker 16: other elements.
- 21:41Speaker 7: To the game.
- 21:42Speaker 16: But but it's fun to watch him and he'll get going,
- 21:44Speaker 16: like he'll have.
- 21:45Speaker 7: Game, well he'll make ten threes or something crazy.
- 21:47Speaker 16: You know, and and he can and in the way
- 21:50Speaker 16: we play, it can happen in a hurry.
- 21:53Speaker 7: Well let's go to let's go to thirty seven, just
- 21:54Speaker 7: because a little later you okay with that?
- 21:55Speaker 20: Yeah?
- 21:56Speaker 7: Okay, yeah yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 15: Ruben mentioned is as a basketball family, it's dad organized
- 22:01Speaker 15: tournament stuff like that. Is that you is that evident
- 22:04Speaker 15: in his skill set that he came from a basketball
- 22:07Speaker 15: family and an easierself from someone who kind of knows
- 22:09Speaker 15: the sport maybe globally.
- 22:10Speaker 7: High basquak Q.
- 22:12Speaker 16: And I don't know totally, you know, whether whether it's
- 22:15Speaker 16: you know, coming from a basketball family or just playing it.
- 22:18Speaker 16: I mean I've coached players that have played the game
- 22:20Speaker 16: since they were young and just very hot basketball.
- 22:22Speaker 7: Q's easy for him.
- 22:23Speaker 16: And it's funny because some of the players that that
- 22:26Speaker 16: may not have his IQ and will make not the
- 22:29Speaker 16: same IQ.
- 22:29Speaker 7: Play as you would hope for. It's funny Ruben's reaction.
- 22:32Speaker 16: Like he's just kind of just like just kind of laughs, like,
- 22:35Speaker 16: oh wow, you know, I can't comprehend it, you know,
- 22:39Speaker 16: So it's, uh, He's funny to watch.
- 22:42Speaker 7: When people think of your system.
- 22:44Speaker 18: A lot of the stats that come to mind are
- 22:45Speaker 18: like three point percentage steel percentage pace of play. What's
- 22:49Speaker 18: maybe an underrated stat that not enough people talk about
- 22:52Speaker 18: that you think this team will be pretty good.
- 22:54Speaker 16: At it's we're gaining three point percentage still rate h.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Sis per game.
- 23:04Speaker 16: We've always been top ten in the country, insists, which
- 23:06Speaker 16: leads to good scoring. I mean we passed the ball
- 23:08Speaker 16: will yeah, and his team would. The better you can
- 23:11Speaker 16: shoot it, the faster you can play, and the more
- 23:13Speaker 16: sister you're gonna have naturally, right, I mean I have
- 23:17Speaker 16: a lot of cis wan. I throw it to good shooters, right,
- 23:19Speaker 16: they do to me. They're not getting this sense yet.
- 23:21Speaker 7: Tip Off time just came out for the sec.
- 23:23Speaker 18: Do you have a preference of like what time you
- 23:25Speaker 18: prefer to play.
- 23:25Speaker 7: At here in the day.
- 23:27Speaker 16: I mean, I'm a late nighter, so hopefully at night.
- 23:29Speaker 16: I don't like getting up early, that's me. But you know,
- 23:32Speaker 16: I don't have a preper I mean, you know, obviously
- 23:33Speaker 16: the I would go for whatever the best market is,
- 23:36Speaker 16: you know, whenever that is, you know, I mean, I'm
- 23:38Speaker 16: sure Saturday is different than Wednesday night. Right.
- 23:40Speaker 6: So McKenzie's recovery going is he's going through that process.
- 23:44Speaker 16: Yeah, everything's good. Everything's on pace, good people handling the surgery, great, rehappier.
- 23:49Speaker 16: He's in good spirits, which is good. You know, we
- 23:53Speaker 16: got to give him a grace pier when you get back,
- 23:54Speaker 16: won't be We'll take him a second to get to game.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Flow, all right, that's Bucky. And a lot of time
- 24:02Speaker 1: spent on Reuben Domingus, the kid from Spain sixty six
- 24:08Speaker 1: three point guy. I would love to watch seventy four
- 24:14Speaker 1: May threes in a row.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And then Rashon Age has a hearing tomorrow because he
- 24:30Speaker 1: has requested another year of eligibility six seven grad don't
- 24:37Speaker 1: know how it's going to go, but he has requested
- 24:41Speaker 1: another year of eligibility.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Okay, and.
- 24:47Speaker 1: It seems like more than not have been granted. But
- 24:50Speaker 1: certainly there are those that have not been granted. So yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 1: it's it's about time to start talking a little bit
- 25:00Speaker 1: of who. As long as the football team is undefeated
- 25:04Speaker 1: and going well, it's gonna get lost a little bit.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But then the exhibition games start, the season starts. There's
- 25:15Speaker 1: a couple of actually there's three guys, two of them
- 25:19Speaker 1: from Texas Tech. By the way, Frederico Frederico, he's six
- 25:25Speaker 1: to eleven pop Isaacs who went from.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Tech to.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Somewhere in the Midwest. I can't think of where that was.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Had some injury issues. Yeah, Creighton, he was great at
- 25:42Speaker 1: Texas Tech. He is just coming off injury. He has
- 25:46Speaker 1: been cleared. I think he's practicing full go right now.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And then Ryland Griffin. Ryland Griffin is a grad of
- 25:56Speaker 1: Richardson High School. He's an Eagle, took them to the
- 26:01Speaker 1: final four in Austin. He has been around Kentucky, Alabama.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Now he's at Texas A and M. And he's a
- 26:15Speaker 1: nice player too. The you know, the question that you
- 26:20Speaker 1: ask about all of this is, man, how do you
- 26:23Speaker 1: get fifteen new guys on the same page. And one
- 26:28Speaker 1: of the things Bucky was talking about, which is positive,
- 26:31Speaker 1: A lot of these guys have been around, right, These
- 26:35Speaker 1: aren't new guys. For the most part, they have played ball,
- 26:40Speaker 1: and in some cases a lot of ball.
- 26:41Speaker 3: I love the fact. What do you say, Ruben Domignus
- 26:44Speaker 3: hadn't been.
- 26:44Speaker 1: To school in five years? Hey, look white, pretend right.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I guess he has to go to a few classes. Well,
- 26:57Speaker 1: he's here. I don't know what the new rules are.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I gotta be honest with you. I don't know if
- 27:01Speaker 1: he has to take classes or don't take classes. I'm
- 27:05Speaker 1: assuming you might have to take a few classes. But
- 27:10Speaker 1: it's it's a new world and you get all these guys,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and a handful of them they want, you know, they
- 27:17Speaker 1: want to go to the NBA. I realize that all
- 27:19Speaker 1: of them would like to go to the NBA, but
- 27:21Speaker 1: they're probably not being realistic. But a few of these
- 27:24Speaker 1: guys that's what they want to do. So can you
- 27:28Speaker 1: get everybody on the same page. He also talked about
- 27:31Speaker 1: Reubin playing defense. He said, I've never done any defensive drills.
- 27:35Speaker 3: He came from Europe. The idea is I'll score everybody
- 27:40Speaker 3: that I mean, I'm not saying.
- 27:44Speaker 1: You can't win more games than you lose by scoring
- 27:48Speaker 1: one hundred a game, but probably have to stop a
- 27:54Speaker 1: few people. Probably have some skills set people in this
- 27:59Speaker 1: league where you can't let them go for thirty a night.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Right, Okay, what we got Caleb.
- 28:06Speaker 21: Division athletes must earn at least six credit hours.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Per term, six per semester. It says six hours per semester.
- 28:15Speaker 1: They have to earn credit. In other words, they have
- 28:17Speaker 1: to pass two classes, right, Okay, you have to pass
- 28:22Speaker 1: two classes per semester six hours. Remember when that was
- 28:28Speaker 1: twelve to fifteen hours. I mean it's been a long
- 28:33Speaker 1: time ago.
- 28:33Speaker 7: Other requirements, but.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Just going to class.
- 28:38Speaker 1: They got to have six hours of credit when the
- 28:40Speaker 1: semester ends. Okay, that's minimum, and that's all we're asking here. Otherwise,
- 28:49Speaker 1: you know, what's the point go to Harvard? I mean,
- 28:55Speaker 1: you want school to be number one, Go somewhere else
- 28:58Speaker 1: big time basketball that ain't place.
- 29:01Speaker 22: The minimum hours in Division two were much higher.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Division two is higher, really interesting. Interesting, That's why everybody's
- 29:09Speaker 1: trying to transfer into D one. It's like, hey, you know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: I didn't go to school and I played the AAU ball.
- 29:16Speaker 1: It's not unusual, by the way, just because Ruben Domingus
- 29:20Speaker 1: has played overseas to say, I haven't been to school
- 29:22Speaker 1: in five years. You talk to these AAU guys that
- 29:25Speaker 1: have been on club teams since they were sophomores in
- 29:27Speaker 1: high school. They hadn't been to class in five years. Right,
- 29:31Speaker 1: They have quote tutors. They don't go to class. They
- 29:35Speaker 1: play basketball for a living. All of these guys playing
- 29:38Speaker 1: right now, they're used to playing basketball period, not going
- 29:43Speaker 1: to school, not studying, not passing tests. They're used to
- 29:48Speaker 1: playing basketball. And that's just where we are. That's what
- 29:54Speaker 1: it is. Hey Galleria part of our community for thirty
- 29:59Speaker 1: two plus years. It's the relaxation headquarters of the Brass

- 30:15Speaker 3: And day out.

- 31:35Speaker 24: You know, every time we do one of these CNJ
- 31:38Speaker 24: barbecue commercials, they tell us to come up with something clever,
- 31:40Speaker 24: but honestly, I never know what to say.
- 31:43Speaker 25: How about we're CNJ Barbecue. We make barbecue. It's good,
- 31:47Speaker 25: people like it. That's why we've been here smoking meats
- 31:50Speaker 25: and filling bellies since the eighties.
- 31:51Speaker 24: Well, I guess that sums it up. So if you're hungry,
- 31:54Speaker 24: come see us.
- 31:55Speaker 25: If you need more convincing, well maybe you just don't

- 31:58Speaker 24: Either way, we'll be here smoke meat like we always do,
- 32:01Speaker 24: serving up happiness on a tray.
- 32:03Speaker 25: C and J barbecue. Let's see.

- 32:27Speaker 26: Greek in Snook and on I thirty five in West.
- 32:29Speaker 26: Slovacic sausage an Aggie tradition since nineteen fifty seven.

- 32:56Speaker 27: My truck look him out here.
- 33:03Speaker 28: Going out to the Polaris Fund Center phone line to
- 33:04Speaker 28: visit with the head football coach for the Gettings Buffalos.
- 33:08Speaker 28: Luke Hobbs, how are you.
- 33:09Speaker 29: Doing doing good?
- 33:11Speaker 6: Man?
- 33:11Speaker 15: Doing good with.
- 33:13Speaker 28: Gettings currently at a two and two overall this season.
- 33:15Speaker 28: How do you assess the program where it is athletically
- 33:18Speaker 28: and mentally?
- 33:21Speaker 27: You know, I think we're doing some good things. I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 27: we've matched last year's when put win total already, we
- 33:27Speaker 27: got a lot of tough games ahead of us. I
- 33:29Speaker 27: feel like we played you know, partial games well and
- 33:34Speaker 27: really only two games we've we've actually finished out. So
- 33:37Speaker 27: look forward to putting together some more complete games.
- 33:42Speaker 28: And this is your U. You were hired on in January.
- 33:45Speaker 27: Huh, yes, sir, I got the job in January. I
- 33:48Speaker 27: think I started in February thirty.
- 33:50Speaker 28: First, Yeah, awesome. Talk to me about some of those
- 33:52Speaker 28: challenges that you faced, you know, taking on this program.
- 33:58Speaker 27: You know, it's a it's a you know, it's a
- 33:59Speaker 27: good program. There's a lot of good things going on here.
- 34:02Speaker 27: The kids work really hard, they're they're good, smart kids,
- 34:05Speaker 27: really good school. Really the only real big negative is
- 34:10Speaker 27: that they just haven't won. You know. So I can
- 34:11Speaker 27: look at our senior class and and I don't they've
- 34:14Speaker 27: never had a winning record in their seventh grade, eighth grade,
- 34:17Speaker 27: ninth grade JV. Like they've never really won, so it's
- 34:21Speaker 27: kind of hard getting them over that hump of you know,
- 34:24Speaker 27: going from hey, it's you know, you have to do
- 34:26Speaker 27: a little bit more work to go to win a
- 34:28Speaker 27: few more games than you know, two a year or whatever.
- 34:30Speaker 27: So just kind of changing the mentality and and getting
- 34:33Speaker 27: everybody in the school that can participate and help out
- 34:36Speaker 27: to play. We ended up getting about seven or eight
- 34:40Speaker 27: kids out to play that didn't play the year before,
- 34:43Speaker 27: so that was big for us. And then we're just
- 34:45Speaker 27: really trying to get a lot of young kids to
- 34:47Speaker 27: play and have you know, big freshmen and JV numbers
- 34:50Speaker 27: and eighth grade numbers to to help us in the future.
- 34:56Speaker 28: And looking at your roster, which positions or groups this
- 34:59Speaker 28: year have evolved the most since your preseason.
- 35:03Speaker 27: Well, our quarterback spot, for sure, we didn't have a quarterback,
- 35:06Speaker 27: so took a fullback and turned him into a quarterback
- 35:09Speaker 27: and he's actually playing really good. He's getting better every week.
- 35:12Speaker 27: You know, we've had some injuries and some kids leave
- 35:15Speaker 27: the program on the offensive line, so that's been a
- 35:18Speaker 27: that's been a challenge, but you know, something we're overcoming
- 35:20Speaker 27: by by bringing up young kids and getting their feet wet.
- 35:23Speaker 27: But probably the quarterback positions changed the most drastically since
- 35:28Speaker 27: I've got here.
- 35:29Speaker 28: Yeah, And on that note, how would you describe your
- 35:33Speaker 28: team's offensive identity this year? You know, being so new
- 35:36Speaker 28: to the program and kind of building it from the
- 35:38Speaker 28: ground up, are you more run oriented past oriented?
- 35:42Speaker 27: Well, you know, we want to run the football. That's
- 35:45Speaker 27: that's our goal. Can we run the football effective league
- 35:49Speaker 27: week in and week out? Probably not. So we have
- 35:52Speaker 27: our pos and we have checks and we have quick
- 35:55Speaker 27: game all built into our offensive scheme to where you know,
- 35:58Speaker 27: if we're physically getting done dominated up front, we have
- 36:01Speaker 27: the ability to get the ball out and on the
- 36:02Speaker 27: screens and R P O and so that that helps.
- 36:06Speaker 27: But we want to run the ball first. It's just
- 36:08Speaker 27: a lot of times that's not always physically possible.
- 36:12Speaker 28: What lessons are you taking from your non district slate
- 36:16Speaker 28: into district play.
- 36:19Speaker 27: I think it's, you know, we got to play four
- 36:20Speaker 27: quarter football. We've we've played some really good has some
- 36:23Speaker 27: really good quarters, but we've had some you know, catastrophic
- 36:27Speaker 27: you know drop offs and in some in some second
- 36:30Speaker 27: half this year, and so we really have to put
- 36:32Speaker 27: together a full.
- 36:33Speaker 28: Game mhm, whether it be like turnovers, momentum swings, third downs,
- 36:38Speaker 28: red zones. Which phase of the game has been toughest
- 36:41Speaker 28: to manage so far? And how are you guys addressing that.
- 36:44Speaker 27: Turnovers have been the most catastrophic. I mean, we've we've
- 36:47Speaker 27: had some huge turnovers and that's been a big problem.
- 36:49Speaker 27: That's something we've focused on. And and then last week
- 36:52Speaker 27: with our went over rock de we we played really
- 36:54Speaker 27: good with no turnovers, so that was a that was
- 36:56Speaker 27: a huge step in the right direction.
- 37:00Speaker 28: You had a victory over Rockdale last week. Talk to
- 37:03Speaker 28: me about what you think went well and where you
- 37:05Speaker 28: see areas for growth.
- 37:10Speaker 27: You know, there's there there is for growth in every
- 37:12Speaker 27: single place, that is for sure. There's nowhere that's playing perfect.
- 37:16Speaker 27: I really like our running back. Our run game was strong.
- 37:19Speaker 27: We had two kids rush for over one hundred yards,
- 37:21Speaker 27: so that was that was big. You know, definitely definitely
- 37:25Speaker 27: room for improvement in most places.
- 37:27Speaker 28: Though, right, And how are you preparing for your matchup
- 37:32Speaker 28: against El Campo, Like what are you expecting out of
- 37:35Speaker 28: their team and how do you think your teams will clash?
- 37:38Speaker 27: I Mean El Campe's amazing, They're really really good. They're
- 37:41Speaker 27: they're very talented, they're big, they're fast, they're strong, they're
- 37:44Speaker 27: well coached. So I could definitely see them being a huge,
- 37:48Speaker 27: huge challenge for us. But if we, you know, come
- 37:51Speaker 27: out and play our game and line up right, we'll
- 37:53Speaker 27: give ourselves a chance. But we'll have no chance if we, uh,
- 37:57Speaker 27: you know, lose the mental side of it.
- 37:59Speaker 28: Right, Given the the infancy of the team, I would say,
- 38:03Speaker 28: how how young this program is under your leadership, How
- 38:07Speaker 28: would you define success for this twenty twenty five season.
- 38:12Speaker 28: I mean, obviously wins and losses, but on and off
- 38:14Speaker 28: the field, you know.
- 38:16Speaker 27: Yeah, I think that's a that's a good question. I think,
- 38:19Speaker 27: you know, retention of players next year. I think kids
- 38:21Speaker 27: either want to play football here. You know, how many
- 38:24Speaker 27: eighth graders stay playing? We have, you know, a bunch
- 38:26Speaker 27: of eighth graders playing, Are they going to play as freshman?
- 38:28Speaker 27: How many freshmen are gonna play a sophomores, et cetera.
- 38:31Speaker 27: Because I think that that's been a big issue here
- 38:34Speaker 27: in the past, is just kids aren't playing as much
- 38:36Speaker 27: as they used to. But if we can get the
- 38:37Speaker 27: numbers up and get kids bought in and play in
- 38:39Speaker 27: the right way I think we can have you know,
- 38:42Speaker 27: good results.
- 38:44Speaker 28: And last question for you here, coach, just looking down
- 38:48Speaker 28: the line three to five years, regardless of wins or losses,
- 38:52Speaker 28: what do you hope for this program? And what do
- 38:54Speaker 28: you hope people say about Gettings Football under your leadership?
- 38:58Speaker 27: You know, I hope they say that we're a tough
- 39:00Speaker 27: team to play like that nobody wants to come to
- 39:02Speaker 27: Gettings and playoffs and and you know, we're physical and
- 39:05Speaker 27: we do things the right way and you know, just
- 39:08Speaker 27: a really really tough team to play. I don't want
- 39:10Speaker 27: anyone to think that, you know, it's a it's an
- 39:12Speaker 27: easy win coming to Gettings. So that's why I hope it.
- 39:16Speaker 27: You know, the program evolves too as far as the
- 39:19Speaker 27: football side of things, you know, non football wise, I
- 39:21Speaker 27: hope you know, we're seen as a you know, a
- 39:24Speaker 27: class act that that keeps and retains good coaches. And
- 39:28Speaker 27: when coaches they leave for promotions and kids come in
- 39:32Speaker 27: and they have a great high school football experience and
- 39:35Speaker 27: leaves better off. That's that's really what I want to
- 39:38Speaker 27: see happen.
- 39:40Speaker 28: Very well, put thank you so much for your time, coach.
- 39:43Speaker 27: Yes, Sarah, thank you.

- 41:20Speaker 1: well Born Road. Sorry, that's just that's kind of how
- 41:24Speaker 1: I think. I probably I probably shouldn't say that publicly,
- 41:29Speaker 1: but people who know, we already know. And my daughter
- 41:34Speaker 1: sent me a article on the real Homer Simpson on
- 41:38Speaker 1: the inspiration for Homer Simpson, and I don't think i'd
- 41:41Speaker 1: ever read that before. There it's kind of a combo.
- 41:47Speaker 3: A guy that.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Matt Gradig knew, but also a guy at this pizza
- 41:52Speaker 1: restaurant that was just looked overwhelmed. He had a Shaky's
- 41:55Speaker 1: Pizza franchise and he was just he was screaming, he
- 41:59Speaker 1: was so overwhelm. That's that's part of where Homer came from.
- 42:02Speaker 1: But I digress. We don't need to know that right now.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Coming up, we're gonna hear from Cassius Howe, who's been
- 42:10Speaker 1: pretty good so far after the Texans Report brought to

- 43:23Speaker 32: has signed on with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. Texans
- 43:27Speaker 32: general manager Nick Cassario addressed the move.
- 43:29Speaker 33: The overall team building philosophy. It's never linear, so nothing

- 47:04Speaker 13: the inside lane to, uh you, know just shoot the inside.
- 47:07Speaker 13: Lane and that's HOW i got the second. One and
- 47:09Speaker 13: then after that it was just like the third. ONE
- 47:12Speaker 13: i was, like, man if they.

- 47:42Speaker 13: Uh god's mercy And god's.
- 47:44Speaker 35: Grace you, know if you were able to maintain that,
- 47:49Speaker 35: pace you would you would finished finish the season with
- 47:52Speaker 35: more sacks and Miles garrett ever had.
- 47:54Speaker 36: Here what would that mean to?
- 47:55Speaker 13: You, oh you know that that would you, know mean
- 47:57Speaker 13: a lot. Obviously, uh you, know just as long AS i,
- 48:00Speaker 13: could you, know just just do just do my part and,
- 48:03Speaker 13: uh you, know contribute as much AS i can to the,
- 48:05Speaker 13: team you, know god.
- 48:06Speaker 35: Willing what do you think be like if you're in

- 49:10Speaker 13: you you, know get, him get to get to know,
- 49:12Speaker 13: him he kind, of you, know opens the shell a little.

- 50:20Speaker 17: About the season is made you guys be more productive
- 50:22Speaker 17: and actually finishing the sacking and getting home.
- 50:24Speaker 13: There, UH i, Mean I'M i don't know. EXACTLY i,
- 50:29Speaker 13: mean you, KNOW i just, know UH i can't really
- 50:32Speaker 13: speak as far as last year or what happened last,
- 50:34Speaker 13: year but, UH i know this, year you, know just
- 50:37Speaker 13: uh myself included just just the WHOLE d line group
- 50:40Speaker 13: as a. Whole you, know we've we've put a lot
- 50:41Speaker 13: of emphasis on you, know LIKE i, said like perfecting
- 50:45Speaker 13: our craft and you, know just just just doing the
- 50:48Speaker 13: hard work necessary to you, know like you, said just
- 50:51Speaker 13: to finish the sacks and to ultimately you, know help
- 50:53Speaker 13: produce to ultimately help uh you, know win games for
- 50:57Speaker 13: for for the. Team so, UH i think just you,
- 51:00Speaker 13: know just keeping that that, mindset that same consistent mindset
- 51:03Speaker 13: throwing through helping us this, year you're talking about your
- 51:07Speaker 13: preparation for the, season that you handled it exactly the right.
- 51:10Speaker 7: Way what was the biggest and pacific year that saw
- 51:12Speaker 7: se say?
