- 3:57Speaker 1: it's a lot of fun. So well, today we are
- 4:01Speaker 1: going to talk about the beautiful, intelligent young child Alexis Patterson.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Alexis was a vibrant, intelligent child. She was just seven
- 4:14Speaker 1: years old at the time of her disappearance. She lived
- 4:17Speaker 1: with her mother, Ayana Patterson, and her stepfather, Lauren I
- 4:22Speaker 1: think it's borgoes, let's go with it, who was reported
- 4:26Speaker 1: he was a low level drug dealer. Now, by all accounts,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Alexis was a very happy child. Her teachers loved her,
- 4:34Speaker 1: her friends, they said she was just very pleasant. But
- 4:39Speaker 1: May third, two thousand and two was the day that
- 4:42Speaker 1: her young wife took a dark turn. So the morning
- 4:48Speaker 1: of May third, two thousand and two started with a
- 4:50Speaker 1: troubling event. According to Alexi's stepbrother, who was just five
- 4:54Speaker 1: years old at the time, Alexis, he said, got a
- 4:57Speaker 1: wooman that morning. While this isn't a violent or life
- 5:01Speaker 1: threatening incident, it's still somewhat significant. Her stepbrother said, Ayana
- 5:06Speaker 1: hit Alexis on the arm because she was pretending not
- 5:11Speaker 1: to know how to put her socks on, and afterward
- 5:14Speaker 1: Alexis cried and that's when her stepfather, loved Ron, took
- 5:19Speaker 1: her to school. Now, Alexis had been late for school
- 5:23Speaker 1: about twenty times during her first grade year because she
- 5:27Speaker 1: often walked.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Alone to school.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Her school was less than two blocks from her house,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and this particular morning, we don't know if it's because
- 5:36Speaker 1: she got in trouble or what. He decided, Lauren was
- 5:40Speaker 1: going to walk her to the corner, and he says
- 5:43Speaker 1: he saw her heading towards school. A school crossing guard
- 5:48Speaker 1: who was in fifth grade at the time, was stationed
- 5:50Speaker 1: at the corner that morning. One question, years later, he
- 5:54Speaker 1: couldn't specifically recall whether Lauren had walked Alexis to the
- 5:59Speaker 1: corner that day. I mean, come on, guys, he was
- 6:02Speaker 1: in fifth grade and you wait to ask him questions
- 6:04Speaker 1: years later. I can't even remember half what I did
- 6:07Speaker 1: Saturday night, okay, but something else stands out that morning, Okay.
- 6:14Speaker 1: The next morning, Lauren returned to the intersection in tears.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I can't help but think was this a sign of
- 6:21Speaker 1: guilt grief or was it just overwhelming emotion of a
- 6:27Speaker 1: man whose stepdaughter had gone missing. The hours after Alexis
- 6:32Speaker 1: failed to return home from school were critical. Her mother
- 6:36Speaker 1: immediately grew concerned when Alexis didn't walk through the door
- 6:40Speaker 1: that afternoon. Iona quickly contacted the school, only to be
- 6:45Speaker 1: told the devastating news Alexis hadn't attended class at all
- 6:51Speaker 1: that day. Now, guys, today, I believe every school has
- 6:58Speaker 1: a system and a program where they called you if
- 7:00Speaker 1: your kids are not in school.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Back then, that didn't happen. And I know this.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Because I may have skipped school once or twice when
- 7:09Speaker 1: I was in high school. But I do know now
- 7:13Speaker 1: you get notified so the parents don't have to wait
- 7:15Speaker 1: till the end of the day to find out. Now,
- 7:18Speaker 1: Milwaukee police were called in. The search for Alexis began immediately,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I mean within hours. The community had rallied to look
- 7:28Speaker 1: for her. Flyers with her picture went up all over
- 7:31Speaker 1: the neighborhood, and the media covered her story pretty extensively.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Nips poured in, but none led to Alexis, and guys,
- 7:42Speaker 1: her disappearance sent shockwaves through that very tight knit community
- 7:48Speaker 1: because it was hard to believe that something like this
- 7:50Speaker 1: could happen in broad daylight. I mean, she was walking
- 7:55Speaker 1: to school and was never seen again. Guys, how many
- 7:59Speaker 1: people or out in or taking their own kids to school,
- 8:04Speaker 1: heading to work, heading places that they didn't see anything.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Despite the massive search efforts, days turned into weeks, and
- 8:13Speaker 1: weeks have turned into years, and there is no trace
- 8:17Speaker 1: of Alexis to this day. Now, with almost every missing
- 8:24Speaker 1: person case, suspicion in theories soon emerged. Now, one of
- 8:30Speaker 1: the early focuses of the investigation was on alexis stepfather,
- 8:36Speaker 1: because he was the last person to see her that morning.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Her stepfather, Lauren, had a history of selling drugs, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: his lifestyle may have put Alexis and her family in danger.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean he had both robbed and been robbed by
- 8:52Speaker 1: armed drug dealers. Yes, you heard me right. He also
- 8:55Speaker 1: robbed other drug dealers to get drugs to sell. According
- 8:59Speaker 1: to police files, Lauren had repeatedly been involved in violent
- 9:03Speaker 1: incidents with other drug dealers in the three years before
- 9:07Speaker 1: Alexis went missing. These dangerous interactions often took place in
- 9:13Speaker 1: and around their home What's even more alarming is that
- 9:19Speaker 1: a man who had been supplying Lauren with drugs showed
- 9:23Speaker 1: up at Alexis's house the same morning she disappeared. He
- 9:28Speaker 1: told police he had been to the house early in
- 9:32Speaker 1: the morning once before, but according to the files, Lauren
- 9:36Speaker 1: mentioned that police had raided his home just days earlier
- 9:42Speaker 1: and that this man had come over to help clean up.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And the timing of this visit raises serious questions about
- 9:51Speaker 1: what else might have been going on in the house
- 9:55Speaker 1: the morning Alexis went missing. Guys, I have so many
- 9:59Speaker 1: red flags just popping up in my head from the
- 10:01Speaker 1: moment I read that. In the aftermath of alexis disappearance,
- 10:07Speaker 1: her mother, Ayana, agreed to take a polygraph test right away. Lauran, however,
- 10:13Speaker 1: consulted with a lawyer before bringing to the test. Now,
- 10:18Speaker 1: I want to say, I am a strong believer in
- 10:21Speaker 1: getting legal representation before you talk to the police, even
- 10:26Speaker 1: and especially if you're innocent. Okay, So I'm not going
- 10:30Speaker 1: to fault him for that, Okay.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:33Speaker 1: According to an anonymous source from a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Lauren reportedly failed the polygraph, specifically on one key question,
- 10:45Speaker 1: do you know where Alexis is right now.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Lauren later defended himself, claiming he had and lied and
- 10:55Speaker 1: that the machine had only indicated deception on that one question.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He has always maintained that he doesn't know what happened
- 11:04Speaker 1: to Alexis now. Both Ayana and Alexis's biological father, Kenya Campbell,
- 11:11Speaker 1: provided DNA samples to authorities shortly after she disappeared. These
- 11:17Speaker 1: samples were later used in twenty sixteen when an Ohio
- 11:21Speaker 1: woman came forward believing she might be Alexis, but guys sadly,
- 11:27Speaker 1: after DNA testing, it was confirmed this woman was not Alexis.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And there's more to the story, Okay, the most unsettling part,
- 11:40Speaker 1: multiple jail house informants claim that Lauren's drug supplier had
- 11:45Speaker 1: either admitted or implied that he had kidnapped or killed Alexis.
- 11:52Speaker 1: While these claims were never fully substantiated, they add yet
- 11:57Speaker 1: another layer of darkness to this case because could the
- 12:02Speaker 1: dangerous world of drugs that Lauren was in ultimately led
- 12:07Speaker 1: to alexis disappearance. Because there were some stories that Lauren
- 12:14Speaker 1: faked his house being rated by police and that he
- 12:18Speaker 1: did it to not have to pay for the drugs.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So then that drug supplier shows it his house the
- 12:24Speaker 1: morning Alexis went missing, so very sus in my book.
- 12:30Speaker 1: The FBI became involved in the case early on, and
- 12:34Speaker 1: their conclusions were grimmed. They believe that either Anya or
- 12:40Speaker 1: In or Lauren were in a fault, were involved in
- 12:43Speaker 1: alexis disappearance, or that another family member or neighbor had
- 12:48Speaker 1: taken her. Now la and Aana divorced in two thousand
- 12:53Speaker 1: and five. He did wind up serving five and a
- 12:56Speaker 1: half years in prison after pleading guilty to felony heroin
- 13:01Speaker 1: dealing charges in two thousand and nine. Now he died
- 13:05Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one from a probable drug overdose, which
- 13:10Speaker 1: means any secrets he had died with him unless he
- 13:14Speaker 1: told someone else. Other theories are that some believe that
- 13:19Speaker 1: Alexis may have been abducted by someone in the community,
- 13:22Speaker 1: someone who could have been watching her that morning. Others
- 13:26Speaker 1: wonder if a random predator was responsible. But it's hard
- 13:31Speaker 1: to believe that a child could be taken in broad
- 13:34Speaker 1: daylight without anyone noticing. But as we've learned since we've
- 13:39Speaker 1: started doing midday missing, things like this can happen in
- 13:44Speaker 1: the blink of an eye. And guys, I don't have
- 13:49Speaker 1: this written down, but I can't help. But wonder did
- 13:53Speaker 1: she really walk to school? Only person who says that
- 13:58Speaker 1: she headed to school was her stepfather. He said he
- 14:02Speaker 1: walked her. Did he walk her and give her to somebody?
- 14:06Speaker 1: Did somebody come up pull a gun and try to
- 14:09Speaker 1: rob him and take her? I mean, I have so
- 14:11Speaker 1: many questions about that. But despite, like I said, countless
- 14:16Speaker 1: tips and theories, no solid leads have emerged. Alexis was
- 14:22Speaker 1: a little girl who deserved to grow up and live
- 14:24Speaker 1: a full life. Her memory remains a painful reminder of
- 14:29Speaker 1: how easily a child can slip through the cracks, even
- 14:34Speaker 1: when an entire city is watching. And I will forever
- 14:40Speaker 1: wonder did the world of drugs and crime that her
- 14:43Speaker 1: stepfather were involved in lead to her disappearance? Or did
- 14:47Speaker 1: someone close to her do something and do they know
- 14:50Speaker 1: more than they're telling Or was it a random person
- 14:56Speaker 1: that just happened to stumble upon her. What we do
- 15:00Speaker 1: know is an Alexis Patterson's case is far from forgotten.
- 15:05Speaker 1: As more information comes to light, the hope remains that
- 15:09Speaker 1: we will one day learn the truth about what happened
- 15:12Speaker 1: to this innocent child. If you have any information regarding
- 15:17Speaker 1: the disappearance of Alexis Patterson, remember, no matter how small
- 15:22Speaker 1: or insignificant, it seems, it takes that one little piece,
- 15:27Speaker 1: that one little thread. Okay, so please contact the Milwaukee
- 15:32Speaker 1: Police Department or your local authorities. Cases like these can
- 15:38Speaker 1: hinge on just that one crucial piece of information. Alexis
- 15:44Speaker 1: deserves to be found. Now, our next case is just
- 15:50Speaker 1: dis baffling. It makes my head hurt and makes my
- 15:55Speaker 1: head spin. So next up is Chance Leslie Engelbert. The
- 16:01Speaker 1: first thing I want to say is that I love
- 16:05Speaker 1: that his middle name is Leslie. I'm guessing it's a
- 16:08Speaker 1: family name. Chance was a twenty five year old husband
- 16:14Speaker 1: and father who disappeared on July sixth, twenty nineteen, while
- 16:19Speaker 1: visiting his in laws and extended family in Geary, Nebraska. Guys,
- 16:24Speaker 1: it is a case that is still shrouded in so
- 16:28Speaker 1: much mystery, and today we're going to explore the little
- 16:32Speaker 1: known facts and some information about the ongoing search for Chance.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Chance was born December second, nineteen ninety three, near Edgemont,
- 16:42Speaker 1: South Dakota, and he grew up on his family's ranch
- 16:47Speaker 1: and burdock with his parents and his two brothers. His
- 16:50Speaker 1: mother described him as an athlete and a cowboy at heart,
- 16:54Speaker 1: someone who loved the outdoors and worked hard at everything
- 16:58Speaker 1: he did. Now, Chance was not a drugstore cowboy. He
- 17:03Speaker 1: was a talented rodeo competitor, earning a bull riding scholarship
- 17:09Speaker 1: to Laramie County Community College in Wyoming, where he gained
- 17:13Speaker 1: a reputation as a champion writer. He also earned degrees
- 17:18Speaker 1: in welding and diesel mechanics. Guys, that's a big deal.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Bull Riding is not easy and it takes a special
- 17:28Speaker 1: person to be able to do that. But he also
- 17:31Speaker 1: his love for welding eventually led to a passion for
- 17:36Speaker 1: demolition derby cars and racing, a hobby he was excited
- 17:40Speaker 1: to share with his young son Banks. Guys, I can
- 17:44Speaker 1: just picture him going to the demolition derby and taking
- 17:49Speaker 1: his little guy with them. It just makes I just
- 17:54Speaker 1: love it. So Chance's life seemed to be heading in
- 17:57Speaker 1: the right direction. He had recently started new job in Morecroft, Wyoming,
- 18:02Speaker 1: just a week after being laid off from his previous
- 18:05Speaker 1: welding position at a cold mine. Now, they said losing
- 18:09Speaker 1: that job was a tough blow to him. Losing your
- 18:12Speaker 1: job is a tough blow to anyone, but guys, he
- 18:16Speaker 1: quickly secured another opportunity. They said in a week. I
- 18:21Speaker 1: mean that showed his family and everyone his determination to
- 18:26Speaker 1: provide for his family. It shows you he was not
- 18:28Speaker 1: going to sit on his laurels right. He was not
- 18:31Speaker 1: going to let that blow derail him. But during a
- 18:36Speaker 1: visit to his wife, Bailey's family in Nebraska for the
- 18:40Speaker 1: fourth of Jolly fourth of July weekend, everything changed. So
- 18:46Speaker 1: on July sixth, twenty nineteen, Chance spent the afternoon golfing
- 18:51Speaker 1: with Bailey's father, his father in law, and her sister's boyfriend. Now,
- 18:56Speaker 1: according to Bailey, Chance seemed to be enjoying himself off,
- 19:00Speaker 1: but later that day he called her asking to be
- 19:04Speaker 1: picked up. He was upset by a comment someone in
- 19:07Speaker 1: that group made about his new job, and she said.
- 19:11Speaker 1: They did not argue on the drive back to her
- 19:14Speaker 1: grandparents' house, but when they arrived, Chance got out of
- 19:18Speaker 1: the car and walked away. Bailey thought nothing of it
- 19:22Speaker 1: at first, because it wasn't unusual for Chance to take
- 19:26Speaker 1: a walk to cool off when he was upset. Guys,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I am known for when wh and I do argue,
- 19:34Speaker 1: which is rare. I have been known to get my
- 19:36Speaker 1: car and take a drive because I learned in my
- 19:40Speaker 1: previous marriages, when you're angry.
- 19:43Speaker 2: It's best to just walk away.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So I first wanted to say I applaud him for
- 19:48Speaker 1: realizing he needed to take a walk, because, think about it,
- 19:51Speaker 1: her family member said something that upset him. He didn't
- 19:55Speaker 1: probably want to lay all of that in vent to
- 19:59Speaker 1: his wife because as they say, I can talk shit
- 20:03Speaker 1: about my family, but you can't.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Kind of thing.
- 20:05Speaker 1: So I think he did the right thing. However, when
- 20:08Speaker 1: he didn't soon return, Bailey became worried and she started
- 20:13Speaker 1: trying to reach him. He finally answered his phone at
- 20:17Speaker 1: seven forty six that night, telling her he was walking
- 20:21Speaker 1: towards He was walking south toward Kimball. However, guys his
- 20:25Speaker 1: friends later reported he had told them he was heading
- 20:29Speaker 1: north toward Torrington, Wyoming. The last known contact was with
- 20:35Speaker 1: his friend Matt Miller at around eight forty six pm. Now,
- 20:39Speaker 1: shortly after that, Chance sent a cryptic text to his
- 20:44Speaker 1: aunt at nine oh eight pm. Then his phone went dark.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Guys that me and his phone either died or it
- 20:52Speaker 1: was turned off. Also that night, a severe thunderstorm swept
- 20:57Speaker 1: through gearing, adding another layer of uncertainty and mystery to
- 21:02Speaker 1: Chance's disappearance. His family and Bailey's relatives search for him
- 21:07Speaker 1: throughout the night, but no trace of him was found.
- 21:11Speaker 1: By the next morning, when Chance still hadn't returned, Bailey
- 21:15Speaker 1: notified local law enforcement and a massive search effort was launched. Drones, helicopters,
- 21:22Speaker 1: divers and K nine units scoured over two thousand, four
- 21:27Speaker 1: hundred acres of land water in air. Sadly, despite these efforts,
- 21:33Speaker 1: no trace of Chance was found. Now while investigating, they
- 21:38Speaker 1: did find Sir Balance footage and it captured Chance walking
- 21:42Speaker 1: near Terrytown, Nebraska, around ten pm that night, but after
- 21:47Speaker 1: that he vanished without a trace. Guys, there is no
- 21:53Speaker 1: other footage of him, and for months after his disappearance,
- 21:57Speaker 1: there were some reported sightings of Chance both Wyoming and Nebraska,
- 22:02Speaker 1: including an alleged sighting and a walmart in Casper, Wyoming,
- 22:07Speaker 1: but after reviewing hours of footage, police were unable to
- 22:10Speaker 1: confirm it was him. And Guys, I often say, you
- 22:15Speaker 1: can't just disappear without a trace. You know, aliens didn't
- 22:20Speaker 1: come down and beat me up. But in the small
- 22:25Speaker 1: areas of Nebraska Wyoming, those areas. If you're out walking
- 22:31Speaker 1: on a dark dirt road, a farm to market road,
- 22:35Speaker 1: there are no cameras, they are not people driving by.
- 22:39Speaker 1: You could go missing and no one see you. The
- 22:43Speaker 1: investigation into Chance's disappearance remains open today, with the Gearing
- 22:48Speaker 1: Police Department following up on any and every lead that
- 22:52Speaker 1: comes their way. And guys, what we've learned here at
- 22:56Speaker 1: midday missing that doesn't happen everywhere. Law enforcement has so
- 23:01Speaker 1: many cases on their plate they don't have the time,
- 23:04Speaker 1: but Gearing Police Department says they will follow up on
- 23:07Speaker 1: any lead. In October twenty twenty one, a human armbone
- 23:13Speaker 1: was found near the North Platte River in Scott's Bluff, Nebraska.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Initial DNA testing was inconclusive, but a second round of
- 23:22Speaker 1: test is still pending to see a potentially its chance. However,
- 23:28Speaker 1: authorities believe the remains most likely are not connected to Chance,
- 23:33Speaker 1: as the bones were found with fabric that doesn't match
- 23:36Speaker 1: with Chance. So if it doesn't match with Chance, we
- 23:40Speaker 1: hope that the DNA will help another family get some
- 23:44Speaker 1: closure that they need now. The Engelbert family is still
- 23:49Speaker 1: desperately sinking answers, and they urge anyone with any information
- 23:55Speaker 1: to come forward, as Chance's mother Dawn said, please, if
- 24:00Speaker 1: you know anything, just call somebody now. In honor of
- 24:06Speaker 1: chances twenty ninth birthday, his maternal grandmother donated two hundred
- 24:11Speaker 1: thousand dollars to the reward fund, bringing that total to
- 24:14Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty thousand. Her husband had said, Linda,
- 24:18Speaker 1: you can buy anything you want. What do you want?
- 24:22Speaker 1: And she said, I want what I want. I can't buy.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I want to find Chance.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Now.
- 24:30Speaker 1: That additional reward expired in December of twenty twenty three,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and today the reward sits at twenty thousand dollars. Chances
- 24:39Speaker 1: family is still holding out hope. So if you have
- 24:44Speaker 1: any information about Chances whereabouts, please contact the Caring Police
- 24:50Speaker 1: Department at three eight four three six five zero eight eight.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And you can also do anonymous tips so that we
- 25:00Speaker 1: help the missing tip line at eight six six six
- 25:04Speaker 1: six oh four O two five And as always, you
- 25:08Speaker 1: can go to FBI dot gov slash tips and do
- 25:13Speaker 1: anonymous tips through there. Also, as I do after every episode,
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you to please share the missing
- 25:21Speaker 1: person flyers that we post on our social media. It
- 25:25Speaker 1: is a way to get the pictures out there. The alexis.
- 25:30Speaker 1: It is a time generated photo to be what she
- 25:34Speaker 1: would look like today, and then of course chances photo,
- 25:37Speaker 1: so please share those now. I don't have a cute
- 25:42Speaker 1: little story today. Instead, because we're going into the holiday season,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I will say that I Askedah if I could put
- 25:51Speaker 1: up our Christmas tree before Thanksgiving and he told me
- 25:55Speaker 1: not no, but hell no because we're not doing that.
- 25:59Speaker 1: But I know a lot of other people who are
- 26:01Speaker 1: putting up their Christmas trees and they are already getting
- 26:04Speaker 1: into the holidays spirit. So I thought I would share
- 26:07Speaker 1: some tips that I found posted by the Wash Show,
- 26:11Speaker 1: I believe County Sheriff's Office. So tip number one, the
- 26:17Speaker 1: holidays are a great time to get to know your
- 26:20Speaker 1: neighbors if you haven't already done so. The hobby season
- 26:25Speaker 1: is a great time to get to know the people
- 26:27Speaker 1: who live next door to you or across the street
- 26:31Speaker 1: behind the back'spence because neighbors watching out for neighbors help
- 26:35Speaker 1: keep an eye out for suspicious activity and makes community safer.
- 26:41Speaker 1: So I highly recommend that next parking lots safety tips
- 26:47Speaker 1: because we all need those. Lock your vehicles and hide
- 26:52Speaker 1: your valuables preferably in the trunk or locked compartment now
- 26:58Speaker 1: before sunrise and after sunset. At park in walk in
- 27:02Speaker 1: well liited areas, guys, absolutely do this. Even at a
- 27:08Speaker 1: mall parked a lot, if you still go to the
- 27:10Speaker 1: mall and carry your keys in your hands, stay alert.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Do not be on your cell phone talking to someone. Guys,
- 27:19Speaker 1: I have parked and been on a call, went in
- 27:23Speaker 1: to shop and came out and didn't remember where I
- 27:25Speaker 1: parked as I was on the phone. What that says
- 27:30Speaker 1: is somebody could have come up and done something to
- 27:32Speaker 1: me because I wasn't paying attention. Okay, So stay alert
- 27:38Speaker 1: to your surroundings. Take a moment to glance around for
- 27:42Speaker 1: possibly suspicious persons, vehicles, or situations, because maybe you will
- 27:48Speaker 1: see something happening to somebody else and you can be
- 27:52Speaker 1: the hero that helps them. Also, before you get in
- 27:56Speaker 1: your vehicle, take a look inside and around before entering.
- 28:01Speaker 1: So some people have been with me and they're like, Terry,
- 28:04Speaker 1: why do you walk around your car before you get in? Well,
- 28:07Speaker 1: because I want to make sure somebody get in my
- 28:09Speaker 1: car and I want to make sure they're not hiding
- 28:12Speaker 1: in my back seat. Okay, if it's dark outside, I
- 28:16Speaker 1: will also sometimes lean and look under the car because
- 28:19Speaker 1: what if they're laying under my car and they reach
- 28:21Speaker 1: to grab out for my legs. I know I live
- 28:24Speaker 1: in the true crime world, but it's something we need
- 28:27Speaker 1: to do. So and if you observe any evidence that
- 28:31Speaker 1: your car has been tampered with, do not get in
- 28:34Speaker 1: your car. Call nine one one and start walking away
- 28:37Speaker 1: from your car. Now I said about the parking lots,
- 28:42Speaker 1: but also when you're out shopping, be alert for thieves
- 28:46Speaker 1: because if you have tons of packages in your hands,
- 28:50Speaker 1: you are an easy to target. Okay, So you need
- 28:53Speaker 1: to maintain visibility and mobility to avoid these threats. So, guys,
- 28:59Speaker 1: I have you know during the holiday seasons, I have
- 29:02Speaker 1: gone out, locked stuff in my car and gone back
- 29:04Speaker 1: in because I don't want my arms full. And you
- 29:08Speaker 1: also need to beware of strangers coming up to you
- 29:11Speaker 1: for any reason, okay, because the holiday season the notorious
- 29:16Speaker 1: con artists come out and they could be trying to
- 29:19Speaker 1: distract you because they want to steal your shopping bags,
- 29:23Speaker 1: your purse or even you.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Now, when possible, avoid wearing expensive jewelry and carrying large
- 29:32Speaker 1: amounts of valuables. To my friends in North Dallas. When
- 29:36Speaker 1: we used to go shopping, we used to get all
- 29:39Speaker 1: dolled up to go to the galleria, put on all
- 29:42Speaker 1: of our bullying, carry our expensive purses. And now that
- 29:46Speaker 1: I'm older and I live in this world even more
- 29:49Speaker 1: we were prime targets. We were walking billboard saying, hey,
- 29:54Speaker 1: please come jack with me. So please don't do that.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Also, as an added precaution, make sure you have a
- 30:02Speaker 1: record of all of your credit card numbers in a
- 30:05Speaker 1: secure place at home. We have all of ours on
- 30:08Speaker 1: an self spreadsheet with the credit card numbers, all of
- 30:12Speaker 1: the digits, the phone number. You want to have all
- 30:14Speaker 1: of that because you will want to report them stolen immediately.
- 30:19Speaker 1: And next, tip shop with your friends.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Yes, they're safety in numbers, but it's also more fun. Okay,
- 30:26Speaker 1: grab a friend and go shopping because the more in
- 30:30Speaker 1: a group, the less likely you are you're going to
- 30:33Speaker 1: be targeted. Okay, And make sure you're all looking out
- 30:37Speaker 1: for everything.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Next, if you're shopping with children, keep a close eye
- 30:44Speaker 1: on them at all times.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Consider coaching them how to go to a store clerk
- 30:51Speaker 1: or security guard if they become separated. Also, be sure
- 30:55Speaker 1: they know their first and last name, so they can
- 30:59Speaker 1: advise one who they are. Also, make sure they know
- 31:04Speaker 1: your name. So when my granddaughter monkey Butt was younger,
- 31:08Speaker 1: we were out shopping somewhere. She had come to visit
- 31:10Speaker 1: us in California, and she walked away and she couldn't
- 31:14Speaker 1: find us, and a lady came up and talked to her,
- 31:17Speaker 1: and I was walking up and the lady asked, what's
- 31:20Speaker 1: your grandmother's name?
- 31:21Speaker 2: And she said Mama.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I realized at that point I had never told monkey
- 31:26Speaker 1: Butt my first name. How could she tell somebody? So
- 31:30Speaker 1: make sure they also know your first name and your
- 31:32Speaker 1: last name if you're a grandparent.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Also, if the children.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Are old enough, have them memorize a contact phone number
- 31:40Speaker 1: or have them carry it on their person in because
- 31:43Speaker 1: they do become lost. Kids like to go wander, they
- 31:48Speaker 1: like to hide in the clothing racks, or I know
- 31:51Speaker 1: my boys did keep an eye on them because it
- 31:55Speaker 1: takes just a minute for something horrible to happen to them. Guys,
- 32:02Speaker 1: you also have to be safe online shopping. Online shopping,
- 32:06Speaker 1: as we all know, is increasingly popular, or if you're
- 32:10Speaker 1: like me, I don't like to shop, I shop online
- 32:15Speaker 1: and the internet has risk so it's important to take
- 32:20Speaker 1: steps to protect yourself when shopping. So one thing I
- 32:24Speaker 1: just learned recently. If you go to a website and
- 32:28Speaker 1: you're going to shop, look up in the line and
- 32:32Speaker 1: if it doesn't say HTTPS, it's not a secure site.
- 32:37Speaker 1: That S means that it is a secure site.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Do not put your.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Credit card in any online form that does not have
- 32:48Speaker 1: that S for showing it secure. They are not secure
- 32:52Speaker 1: to take credit card payments.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Also, the National Cybersecurity Alliance recommends you make sure you
- 32:59Speaker 1: have a firewall, anti virus, anti spyware okay, and you
- 33:05Speaker 1: want to make sure you keep them up to date okay,
- 33:10Speaker 1: because they do those security updates because someone has found
- 33:15Speaker 1: a way to get around it.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Okay. So before you.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Enter your credit card or personal information into a website,
- 33:23Speaker 1: look for that S okay. Also, do not click on
- 33:28Speaker 1: links that come to your cell phone that text and
- 33:30Speaker 1: say hey, we have problems with your package click this link.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Do not do it. Okay, do not do it. We're
- 33:37Speaker 1: all going to be doing a lot more online shopping.
- 33:40Speaker 1: The scammers are going to be out okay. Also, never
- 33:46Speaker 1: send cash through the mail or use a money wiring
- 33:49Speaker 1: service to pay for something. If you buy something on Facebook, Marketplace, eBay,
- 33:55Speaker 1: at the use Venmo, use some thing that gives you security.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Use your credit card, do not sing cash. You can't
- 34:05Speaker 1: get that back.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:07Speaker 1: You also want to print and save records of all
- 34:10Speaker 1: of your online transactions.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You want to check your credit card statements every month.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I have had a situation where I bought one thing
- 34:21Speaker 1: on a site that one month it was great. The
- 34:25Speaker 1: next month I had two other charges and I hadn't
- 34:28Speaker 1: bought anything, So you want to check those also, Guys,
- 34:33Speaker 1: you want to keep your home safe during the holidays.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:37Speaker 1: You need to be extra cautious about locking your windows
- 34:41Speaker 1: just like glass doors when you leave for any length
- 34:44Speaker 1: of time and when you are home.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:48Speaker 1: People may think it's crazy. We live on an acre.
- 34:52Speaker 1: There are houses next to us. Everything is still locked. Yes,
- 34:55Speaker 1: and we have cameras inside our home and outside of
- 34:58Speaker 1: our home, and we still do that. You never know
- 35:02Speaker 1: when somebody is going to just try to walk in
- 35:05Speaker 1: your door.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Also set some indoor and outdoor lights on timers. Okay,
- 35:12Speaker 1: let your house look like you're lived in now with
- 35:16Speaker 1: I can't say her name, but A L. E. Xis
- 35:19Speaker 1: or A. If I say her name, she will talk
- 35:22Speaker 1: to me. You can set her to turn on your
- 35:24Speaker 1: TV or the radio for you at a certain time, okay.
- 35:27Speaker 1: So if you're not home, go ahead and do that
- 35:30Speaker 1: so it looks like someone's home.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:33Speaker 1: And guys, never keep your gifts or valuables in plane
- 35:37Speaker 1: view from any window. I know friends and family who
- 35:41Speaker 1: put their Christmas tree right in the front room of
- 35:44Speaker 1: the house with the blinds open, shutters open, so everybody
- 35:48Speaker 1: can see the Christmas lights. Guess what, they also see
- 35:51Speaker 1: all of the packages. And when you start putting a
- 35:55Speaker 1: lot of packages underneath there, you are making it more
- 35:59Speaker 1: enticeing to them.
- 36:01Speaker 2: So do not do that. Okay.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Also, and this is year round, not just the holidays,
- 36:08Speaker 1: teach your children to never open the door to anyone
- 36:14Speaker 1: without your knowledge or authorization. We've even told monkey. But
- 36:18Speaker 1: because she's sat home sometimes for an hour or so
- 36:21Speaker 1: by herself, even excuse me, even if I come and
- 36:26Speaker 1: knock on her door, she should not open that door
- 36:30Speaker 1: until she calls her mom and lets her mom know
- 36:34Speaker 1: I'm there. Okay, I'm her grandmother, I am her mama.
- 36:41Speaker 1: She still shouldn't because what if somebody has gotten me
- 36:47Speaker 1: and is forcing me to do it and trying to
- 36:50Speaker 1: make me do something bad. I wouldn't have called my
- 36:53Speaker 1: daughter in love, you know she wouldn't know because if
- 36:56Speaker 1: I'm going to pick up my granddaughter, my daughter in
- 36:59Speaker 1: Love knows before I go there. So tell them, even
- 37:04Speaker 1: if it's a grandparent, don't do it. And Sammy Sunshine
- 37:09Speaker 1: just posted in the chat. They can also see the
- 37:11Speaker 1: layout of the front room abs, so freaking lutely they can.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Don't do it. Just don't, Okay. So another thing, follow
- 37:23Speaker 1: your local law enforcement on social media. They now have
- 37:27Speaker 1: the neighborhood app Follow that they report things because it
- 37:33Speaker 1: helps you know what's going on where you live. And
- 37:36Speaker 1: if you have a neighborhood safety service, sign up with them.
- 37:40Speaker 1: If you have a neighborhood watch group, sign up with them, okay,
- 37:44Speaker 1: or maybe you should start one. We have one here
- 37:47Speaker 1: in our neighborhood. We are a gated section, but our
- 37:51Speaker 1: developers bought the land behind us, tore down all of
- 37:54Speaker 1: the beautiful trees and is building thousands of more homes
- 38:00Speaker 1: that are not on the gated side. And now our
- 38:02Speaker 1: gate is left open from nine am to I think
- 38:05Speaker 1: five pm every day. So you need to know what's
- 38:08Speaker 1: going on. I can see on there, even on Facebook.
- 38:13Speaker 1: I'm in our Facebook group that there's been cars being
- 38:16Speaker 1: broken into in that section at night. Yes we are
- 38:19Speaker 1: on the gated side, but guess what, you can crawl
- 38:23Speaker 1: over that gate. Okay, they can still get into your neighborhood.
- 38:31Speaker 1: And this next one is a biggie And they said
- 38:34Speaker 1: for during the holidays. I am going to tell you
- 38:37Speaker 1: this anytime I told you this when I gave you
- 38:39Speaker 1: travel tips, let someone you know that it is trustworthy
- 38:44Speaker 1: that you will be out of town where you will be,
- 38:47Speaker 1: and ask a neighbor to watch out for your house,
- 38:51Speaker 1: get your newspapers if you still get one, and your
- 38:54Speaker 1: mailbox anytime we're gone. We have our friends across the
- 38:59Speaker 1: street not only watch our dogs and our cats, they
- 39:03Speaker 1: check our mail. Okay, they make sure it looks like
- 39:06Speaker 1: somebody's coming and going, and we do the same for them.
- 39:10Speaker 1: And anytime we go out of town, I not only
- 39:13Speaker 1: tell DOUBLEH of course I'm married to him, but also
- 39:15Speaker 1: tell my older son and my bestie knows. Okay, you
- 39:21Speaker 1: need to let people know also during this time. If
- 39:25Speaker 1: you live somewhere, even in Texas, weather is an important
- 39:29Speaker 1: factor for holiday travelers. Okay, guys, back, I want to
- 39:34Speaker 1: say it's five or six years ago where we used
- 39:37Speaker 1: to live in Dallas. Two days before Christmas, a tornado
- 39:42Speaker 1: hit and leveled a lot of houses. People were killed
- 39:47Speaker 1: when their cars were knocked off of the beltway. That
- 39:50Speaker 1: was right before Christmas, guys, and it was dark out.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I never had paid attention that hurricanes happened. That not hurricanes,
- 39:59Speaker 1: tornado happen. We normally get them in the spring and fall,
- 40:03Speaker 1: but this was Christmas. There's also blizzards, snowstorms, rainstorms. Okay,
- 40:09Speaker 1: it is a hazard, so you also want to stay
- 40:12Speaker 1: tuned to weather conditions. Also, even in my car here
- 40:16Speaker 1: in Texas, the chances of me having a snowstorm up
- 40:19Speaker 1: until a couple of years ago were pretty small. Then
- 40:22Speaker 1: we had Snowmageddon. Okay, we had no power and I
- 40:26Speaker 1: had five.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Inches of snow.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I think it was so we didn't have a lot,
- 40:30Speaker 1: but we had no power. Some people had no power
- 40:32Speaker 1: for a week. But in my car, I keep blankets,
- 40:35Speaker 1: always keep my car full of gas, I keep water,
- 40:39Speaker 1: I keep protein bars, I keep a first d aidkit. You
- 40:43Speaker 1: want to make sure you do that. We're all going
- 40:46Speaker 1: to be driving to go see family during this time,
- 40:49Speaker 1: make sure you have stuff in your car. Okay, now
- 40:55Speaker 1: this one, y'all are gonna laugh at me. But celebrate
- 40:59Speaker 1: response Like Saturday night, I will say I did not
- 41:05Speaker 1: necessarily celebrate responsibly. Well, I guess I can say, because
- 41:09Speaker 1: we celebrated some out and then we contindered. Celebrating at
- 41:12Speaker 1: home is when we decided to drink way too much.
- 41:16Speaker 1: But you need to watch how much you drink, especially
- 41:19Speaker 1: if you're out and about. Something could happen to you.
- 41:24Speaker 1: And when you're drinking, your inhibitions are lowered. Somebody can
- 41:28Speaker 1: walk up and do something to you. So make sure,
- 41:31Speaker 1: like we typically do, we make sure we have a
- 41:33Speaker 1: designated driver, someone who stays sober and takes care of us.
- 41:38Speaker 1: So now that we have uber, use it. You know
- 41:43Speaker 1: what Uber is cheap compared to you losing your life,
- 41:47Speaker 1: So please be careful. Also, if you are going out
- 41:51Speaker 1: to clubs, nightclubs, bars, restaurants to celebrate this holiday season,
- 41:57Speaker 1: do not leave your drink und attended. Sadly, it happens.
- 42:04Speaker 1: It happens in Austin way more than I like to admit.
- 42:07Speaker 2: It happens.
- 42:08Speaker 1: People slip things in people's drinks. So do not leave
- 42:12Speaker 1: your drink unattended, Okay, make sure of that.
- 42:17Speaker 2: So. I know that sounds like I'm being.
- 42:20Speaker 1: A little paranoid, but I want everyone to have a
- 42:26Speaker 1: safe holiday season. I do not want to be reporting
- 42:30Speaker 1: on Midday Missing that someone who follows us went missing.
- 42:35Speaker 1: I don't want to have to talk about one of
- 42:38Speaker 1: our followers on True Crime and Mind Time because they've
- 42:41Speaker 1: been killed or raped or beaten. Let's look out for people, Okay.
- 42:47Speaker 1: So I want to thank you for joining me today,
- 42:51Speaker 1: and I want you to remember these cases involve real people,
- 42:54Speaker 1: real families, and real pain. And I want you to
- 42:57Speaker 1: remember when somebody goes missing, it's not just that person,
- 43:02Speaker 1: it is everyone who loved them, knew them, is in
- 43:06Speaker 1: the community with them. Everybody is hurting. So please remember that.
- 43:12Speaker 1: And I do look forward to seeing you again on
- 43:15Speaker 1: Wednesday for our next episode of Midday Missing. We will
- 43:19Speaker 1: have a sister on with us and we will have
- 43:22Speaker 1: more information about that is we talk about the disappearance
- 43:27Speaker 1: of William Gray. Now Tonight at eighth Central, we will
- 43:32Speaker 1: be on again Live with a special True Crime and
- 43:35Speaker 1: Wine Time episode, and we will have a special guest,
- 43:39Speaker 1: Anthony Christopher, and he is going to share his experiences
- 43:43Speaker 1: with bunny boiler LaDonna Humphrey and his experience of working
- 43:48Speaker 1: with Javier. On the Pretend Podcast, they did a full
- 43:52Speaker 1: episode about bunny boiler LaDonna Humphrey and guys. LaDonna Humphrey
- 43:58Speaker 1: is my first person I've called a bunny boiler who
- 44:02Speaker 1: hasn't killed someone or an animal. This you're gonna want
- 44:08Speaker 1: to watch this, okay, And if you haven't listened to
- 44:10Speaker 1: the Pretend Podcast episode, I think it's season nineteen or
- 44:15Speaker 1: season nine. I should have written that down. You want
- 44:18Speaker 1: to go listen. She is batshit crat easy and she
- 44:25Speaker 1: is a bunny boiler. To say the least. You are
- 44:29Speaker 1: going to want to watch this episode tonight because it's
- 44:34Speaker 1: a story that sounds like it should be in a movie.
- 44:37Speaker 1: When I first met Anthony and he was telling me,
- 44:40Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I'm not so sure about this.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Then I started hearing more and more, and then I
- 44:45Speaker 1: decided to go down the rabbit hole. Holy shit, it
- 44:50Speaker 1: is one hundred percent real life. Somebody needs to make
- 44:55Speaker 1: a movie about it.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I know.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Dateline made the show something about Pam I think is
- 45:01Speaker 1: what it was called. Somebody needs to do a bunny
- 45:04Speaker 1: boiler LaDonna Humphrey show. Who knows, maybe Javier and his
- 45:09Speaker 1: team over at the pretend or doing that that they
