Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the nine-or-noise podcast part of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor at nineornoise.com.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: And here with me as the weight is finally over week one is, well, basically here.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oxa's divadula, Oxa's, how are we feeling, man?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: We are feeling amazing, Robert.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's uh...
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a long wait, long season, but this week is actual football.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I feel like it's really snuck up on me.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I've sort of like, yeah, I knew it was true.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: I knew like, okay, you know, it's that time of year, but the fact that we're talking about an NFL regular season game, it's going to happen within this week is a, it's pretty awesome.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, there's another game tonight as you're listening to this.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're recording on Tuesday afternoon.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: So it's likely a tonight thing for you.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, I guess depending on where you are, it could be, I don't know, somewhere in this.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's right, right, exactly.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Or if you're in Australia listening to us and I suppose the game is on Thursday
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: their season in Australia.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about this.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: They're in Melbourne and have been for like a week now, I think.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the time is funny.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: And they are preparing to face the Los Angeles Rams who gave up one of their home games so they could face the 49ers in Melbourne.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: At the Melbourne cricket ground, I believe is the name of the venue, right?
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think it holds like 100,000 people.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: any of the pictures that people are taking of the field inside of this cavernous place.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: I have not yet, but I'm going to search it up right now.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: It is, it looks kind of funny.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much sideline because they have because the obviously the cricket space is a little bit bigger.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, it's, it's not quite a college basketball inside of an arena situation.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I just
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I feel like...
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you get like 50 yard quote unquote 50 yard tickets and you're right on like, yes, those be right there.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like you're not you're a football field away from the football Yeah, it's just interesting.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they should have a, you know, they could have brought two other teams play two games.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like so simultaneously.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been really funny.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like one ball flies in from the other side.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like what are the rules?
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's 830 Eastern time, is that on Thursday night, I think that's correct, because it's like 1030 in the morning, Friday morning in Australia, and so that's like a 530 start.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: On the west coast for both those teams play, obviously interesting and something we'll note and talk about is the fact that the 49ers as we noted have been over there for a while The Rams are planning on flying out Soon I guess They should be on the way in the relatively near future The game is on Netflix as we talked about we'll maybe touch on that a little bit
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so, the 49ers had their first official practice with where they have to put the injury report out.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: It has not come out as if yet, I think it's supposed to be like in the next hour or two, the official injury report, but all signs seem to be pointing towards
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's fairly healthy.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like all all 70 players, which includes a practice squad guys and everything that are out there We're practicing on the field.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was one small exception It was to do a name hold on this is great podcasting by me.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh James James Thompson wasn't
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: went through warm-ups, but he didn't wear a helmet at some point during any point during the through the warm-ups, so maybe there's something going on there, but that's something to watch, but other than that, it looks like the 49ers just have to be pretty healthy going into the season.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: They said, Durya, Robert, can you say that one more time?
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I don't even want to.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Just, I guess, can I pinch myself?
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they had press conferences this morning.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was this morning.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this morning there time really early or last.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: The time thing is throwing me off.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, Remor said, Nick Bosa's definitely playing and, uh, goodness.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: What's the offensive, um, George Kettle?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he's playing, but offensive coordinator.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, thank you.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Clay Kubeyx said he's probably going to play that he has like a couple of things he has to go through to test out make sure he's good to go.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of thinking that if he was not.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: like 90% of the way, if they weren't like high 90s percent sure he was going to play barring something happening that they wouldn't have brought him in the first place, so I kind of get the feeling that he'll play, he'll probably be on a snap count limit and that sort of thing, but he'll be out there, it would be my guess.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, but I think they're both 100% going to play.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they said both say is for sure.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like Marimura, so it's like, I'm not, we're not going to try to beat her on the bush on this.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's playing.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: Kittle, they were a little bit like, we'll see.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I guess like, I agreed.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're both going to be on a pretty sharp snap count.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Ironically, I think kiddo might play more snaps just because of the way that I'm like
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: the way the Niners rotate their defensive line, man.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: I saw somewhere, so this is not like my own research.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say this is from Matt Barrow's male bag that he has on the athletic.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: That the last two times, both those who come back from a major injury, he's played like 58% of defensive snaps, something like that.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: But apparently, those last two times, the Niners blew the team they were playing out.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so so there's a reason he was on so they were like all right cool things exactly So, but I think we should expect more part-time situation on edge rushing.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah from both of Kiddler I have no idea.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what a snap count looks like for George Kiddler.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, we'll see what good luck It's kind of a good luck
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: keep him off the field kind of situation.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's why if you give the man a jersey in a helmet, it's like, well, okay.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's also, I mean, we'll see, we'll see how that goes, but yeah, I mean, I just, I'm shocked and amazed and very excited at the idea that everyone is healthy.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're, I mean, okay, like, bit of a short, you know, tongue and cheeks.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, there are, yeah, there are players that are on and to reserve and all that kind of stuff, but yeah, it's pretty.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: All, there's no injury concerns about the people who are active on the roster right now.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: No, there are, which is a, I think the important part.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I just like, it's going to be fun.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it's exciting.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see Kyle Shanahan's presser yesterday?
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Where he said he didn't have to tell anyone about injuries because they were there on future?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, real interesting, and of course, not to steal your thunder robber, but I feel like I'm going to segue us anyway.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: Do it.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams, just, I think, Adam Shefter reported recently as per our own.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like in the last two hours.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: That, uh, Aaron Donald will not be traveling to Australia.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: That was shame.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a lot of, um,
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't even use the right, I can't remember the right word for basically odd dang I can't believe he's going to play against us to start out the season yeah that goes away so yeah you know that's a It's a good feeling for the 49ers they may for the first time maybe ever that I can remember in the last few years be like healthier or unquote healthier then yeah
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, they'll see them again in 13 weeks or whatever when they play each other in a couple of months, I'm sure.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird, I feel kind of, I want to say things that are going to sound like I'm saying I'm contradicting myself.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel this sort of sense of like, I'm really glad he's not playing.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: It also felt like a little smokin' mirrors.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like the guy just got back to the team three weeks ago or something like that didn't do any training camp or he was around and stuff and stuff and they did workouts with him.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: But he hasn't played football in two years.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, you can't expect that he's just gonna run around and run out there and be ready to go at 3435 or whatever.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: But, and so there's some, so that's like, okay, yeah, that, that I sort of expected that I was a little shocked that Mick they obviously gamesmanship that he was like, well maybe we'll see, I felt like that was really unlikely and I'm both and I'm like happy that that happens and I'm glad that we don't have to be his first opponent.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: But there's also this small part of me that gets annoyed.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And you could, you could do it this way too well.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: This small part of me that gets a little annoyed every time everybody's like, oh, it's Bram star stand out defensive tackle.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, has anyone ever, has anyone thought?
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now I don't think, this is not the likelyest outcome, right?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't played football in two years.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't there a chance that he's just like, not out for it anymore?
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, it's in the realm of possibility and he certainly not he's not gonna be the guy that he was I don't think any I think anybody is anticipating he's gonna just step back in and be like Oh, he's the defense player of the year candidate again
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's gonna be a trouble.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's definitely unlikely.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: I will say this, not to be the Pearl Rams voice right now.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: But what is that?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh gosh, I don't know Robert.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what position have you put in?
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not this part of that.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: I apologize.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think like,
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw the workout videos he had and like, I mean he I think is physically at the same point he was when he was like playing.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you know, rust, but it's like frankly, I think if you got like JJ watt a year to get back in shape and put him on the field, he'd get you like three to four sex and it's like that kind of thing.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yo, JJ, what you have to?
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying that because everyone listens to the podcast, of course, all the players.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think my sort of view is that it's like, he's, well, I was caveat this because I think the Rams have a good defensive line without Aaron Donald, but like for a lot of teams,
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: For the ramps, I don't know, that might not even be true, just given like how deep their defense of Lyme is, but that's like a short list of teams where him coming in, like I would expect just at baseline.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's no worse than like a league average player right now.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: And for a lot of teams having, like, a league average second defensive tackle is already a huge step up.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: So not to, I know, right now, I was just trying to talk myself into it.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I'm not worried about it at this particular point.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's a problem for, you know, week 14 or whatever it is that they want to play them again.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the other thing that I wanted to to throw out before and get into the game itself.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you saw this Apparently So bill plash plash ski.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's how you say his name.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's a Los Angeles based News reporter he used to be on around the horn a lot if you watch that show Yeah Says the rams are not losing a football game this year
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: 22 and over, they're all the way to winning a Super Bowl title in their own home stadium.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I've said that on the podcast, sometimes about the Niners.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, yeah, I'm sick of it.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Good for him.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's just the, like, he would make it all the better if they, if they lose on Thursday and just like, well,
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: that it would mean that that projection was going to be off the table.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: But I think what would what I really want to see week one essentially is sort of evidence.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, A, I want the Niners to win, but I really think it would be like if the Niners show essentially that they're at that upper echelon that the Rams and Seahawks are like operating in, I think that's like
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: what I think has happened essentially is because they were so injured last year and basically non-functional at the very end.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yet somehow snuck in and made the playoffs and want to play afghan and want to play afghan.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: I really think there's sort of the national consensus a bit of these guys like you know like it's smoke and mirrors like great coaching job really and I'm no
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: That was holding on by thread and you know, there's some truth to that right that team last year Without like was too injured to really make a run obviously, you know Crazy things could have happened they didn't but
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: This year, I think it's different, right?
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they have everyone in right now.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: They have the healthy player.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: They have like the tools they need, so to speak.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so what I want is I think, I think people are forgetting.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: just how talented the same Francisco 49ers football team is, like the players on in R, because everyone's a little old and last year basically all the talented players were hurt.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I would love to see week one, the Niners sort of like, you know, yeah, flex their muscle a bit, remind everyone that like, hey, you know,
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: The reason the meme isn't like two like mean-looking dragons and two like not mean-looking dragons.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's three mean-looking dragons and one kind of thing.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: And the cardinals.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, cardinals.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know what I'm talking about.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just search up NFC West meme.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you'll find it.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: You'll understand the image.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'd refer to.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm right there with you and all that.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also getting a little annoyed with this whole, oh, the 49ers are so old and the Adi Adi Adi Adi Adi.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, sir, slash, madam.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: The Los Angeles Rams are not spring chickens.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Their quarterback is pushed to 40.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Their quote unquote,
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't know.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, do what you want about their wider SEVER situation.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: A wider SEVER that they're probably not going to be able to keep after this year because they signed Miles Garrett, or because they traded for Miles Garrett, is there for now.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: Their other wider SEVER is
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: like 35-year-old Devante Adams or whatever.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: They have younger players that are going to contribute, and their defense outside of Garrett and Donald, I think, is a little bit on the younger side.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: But let's not play the game.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they're this young, up-and-coming group of players who are...
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: just like pretty much everybody else in the NFL, if Stafford goes down, the whole ship is sinking.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, although apparently not with 49ers, so there you go.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like if the same thing had happened to the Rams last year that happened to say, which just go, if you took Matthew Stafford out of that, out of their offense for whatever it was, 10 games, and was it was grappled with another last year, I think, right?
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not they're not going anywhere like that.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: They're they're toast.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm sorry Jimmy.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for your time And your service to the to the San Francisco 49ers, but you like we have no proof that you're that you still got it my friend and in fact he is not on a team anymore.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just like, I'm a little tired of that, like, oh, you know, the 49ers are so old and so injured.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, the injured part has definitely been true, but like, it's like, okay, like, they're an older, yes.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: And their core is certainly older, but it's not like their arms are completely, like, young in that regard either.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: I agree totally, right?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you're talking about the, we're getting a little feel of like the game itself, but like, if you really think about the youth on the, in this division, it's the Seahawks, right?
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's the team that's young and sustainable and it's just a question of,
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: is their quarterback and offense can that match their defense?
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's no one in that defense, minus one at Williams, who's really at an age where you're like, oh, like, you know, he won't be around for five years from now.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: He won't be at the same level.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: which sucks, right?
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's no fun.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really good defense.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's like super young, very lame as a not Seattle, like as a fan of a team in the end of the West, that's not Seattle, right?
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: But the rams are like all in.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, they have like top end talent, but I think the 49ers talent just did not get a chance to showcase itself.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, last year, right?
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Bosa wins a game single hand when we buy himself gets hurt.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's gone like a game and a half later.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Fred Warner was playing at a defensive player of the year level.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, like Miles Garrett decided to break like a sack record can't be that.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're going hard to beat regardless.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, like Warner was at that level.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: He gets hurt.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: Right, Michael Williams was hurt the game after both of us, all right.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's yeah, it was nearby.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well, well, and like that's not it like my cow wasn't even like someone you're like, oh, like, but it's a it's a depth.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's a depth.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's a depth.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's a depth based that you lose when you couldn't afford to lose any for anything further.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, Trent Williams, I think he missed a couple games.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: So he's George kiddo missed games and then like tore his Achilles.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, you're in the playoffs.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: The playoffs, Chris and McCaffrey did miss any games.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: But the Russian, the Russian attack was bad.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, you know, and I'm not saying this to just be like, oh, what was us?
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: What was the 49ers?
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: What a sad, like, difficult season they had.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying, right, like, this, the fact that the team did well last year, I think he's being put against them, because it's kind of like, oh, yeah, that's how good that team is.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: And now everyone's a year older.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: That team was like, that was like when Kyle Shenan had Nick Mullins running the like 20, 20, 21, Niners and playoff contention up until like Mullins through like four interceptions in a game in the damn like first.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then in like in all fellow part right like it was it is a it was a much more impressive.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: kind of situation than I think people remember just because it's like done now.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, just to say that it's good, like I think these teams, like the Rams are better, don't get me wrong, you know, the Rams are better.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to use my, for those of you who were here with this last season and before not my classic, they're just a more talented team
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: You just said it, someone is going to agree with that and you're saying it.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: Just kidding.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it really does that.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I think, Jen, my general, like, to get back on track, just I think these teams are more evenly matched than it's been discussed.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in that way, it's like, It's fun that the Niners are healthy getting into this matchup.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is the thing you want to me to say, like 20 minutes, go.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's all, that's all true.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's, and I think ultimately the thing that you're saying and we'll talk, we'll move into transition into our normal game analysis stuff.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: As best we can, obviously week one, as we always say, is weird in many ways, because it's week one, and nobody really knows exactly what the team is going to look like, really.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the the the biggest takeaway is going to be can this team fully healthy like hang with their rams like winter loose like is it like you can't you can't walk in there and get
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: blown out or or anything like that.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like the the the range of outcomes that you want to see are you win the game even if it's close you win the game but you actually prove yourself to be better than people thought or even if you lose the game like you're in it like the outcome of you prove like you show yourself in week one that you just don't have it would be real real kick in the in the butt for sure.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we've, we've beat around the bush enough, I think, Okshaas, um, and I think that's, you know, it probably comes down to the fact that unlike later in the season, when we, when we could talk about like the intricacies of how is this team played up to this point so far.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: This is a little bit more difficult, um, because of the week one of it all as I mentioned just a moment ago, but let's go and get into it as we always do our reasons for optimism and our reasons for concern, Okshaas, we will start with you first
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Reasons for optimism for the season.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: Go for the season.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, first, first reason for optimism of the season of the season four week one.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you think they're going to win?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: We've, yeah, that was bad.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Bad setup by me.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: Good track.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, now I feel like I have to like given even better reason to match up to the fact that I messed up a messed up our first lead in and so good.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, right.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like I always do, I'm going to start by sort of like making it sound like things are a lot worse.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: And they actually are, you know, the rims are very talented right an offensive defense.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: they have weapons across the board.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: What I think really killed the 49ers last year just downright across the board is an inability to stop the run.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like they just could not stop explosive run plays and that really like kicked in once Bosa got hurt.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Williams got hurt.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that like kind of derailed their defense the rest of the way through.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I am really the reason I think the 49ers have a chance to win this week is because I think the defense
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: even though some players are still hurt, I think schematically they're just better set up and they have the athletes necessary to like stop the run.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: And like sort of stop posing offenses.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: And when I say athletes, I do mean athletes.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, Jane and Dougher is someone who I'm really, really excited about and like,
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: feel very like optimistic that he's going to have a great season.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's like perfectly built for a matchup against the Rams.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's going to be a real weapon.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited about Boeson the middle.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to like wreck havoc on these run plays.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Boeson being back, Warner be back, Greenmont being back.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that like,
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think the 49ers are going to be able to make the Rams a little more one-dimensional and neutralize some of those three titans sets at the Rams utilize a lot.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: That the Niners just couldn't deal with last year, especially with all the injuries on defense in their linebacking corps.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: They just didn't have the bodies who could match up to that.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have linebackers really could play that well in its space.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: and like a freak athlete rookie back there.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I think if the niders can control the ground on defense, you know, really force the Rams we want to mention.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you just open up the possibility of mistakes from that offense.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of take the bite out of this entire game because, you know, the Rams defense is going to be relentless.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: I will be talking about that very shortly.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: But if the other team has to pass and you can have more balance on offense, that defense is going to be on the field longer, you're going to wear on them, you know, maybe the travel impacts the Rams as well.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I really think they're capable defensively to match up against the Rams in a way they weren't last year.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's all.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: really really good.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think it will be really interesting to see what Rahim Morris does with Jaden Dugger and like obviously it seems unlikely.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Martin's gotten a factor into things right early on in the season with injuries and all that kind of stuff and so
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: It I don't know for all intends and purposes seems like Doug is going to be the guy and but but how so what does that mean like I think we're we're really
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: We might be thinking, or I might be thinking, let me talk for myself for me, I think it's not necessarily the case for you, but thinking about it in terms of like how, what, what does the defense looked like in the past, and I think more than we've seen since Kyle Shanahan has arrived, where he more is going to have more carte blanche to kind of do his own thing.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think we are already getting the,
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: the look at that like the way that like the five man front seemed to be a part of what they're doing from like practice sports and load in the preseason and the fact that jade and dugger exists on this team at all like the idea that's don't think he was a guy that this that old the old version of this defense would have been interested in but his versatility is really interesting and just like what is it what are they going to do or are they going to try to simplify it for him and be like all right
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the one thing we need you to do, like, focus on that, or they're going to feel really comfortable with him, like in space, but also as a possible, like, edge russure on under certain circumstances.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's really like fascinating to me, but I really think that there's a good possibility that that, as you say, the defense is just going to be better, one on the mirror to the, like, being healthy, or and then just like, it has some players in it and the guys that they brought in and mentioned,
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: and just like the improvement there, I think it's going to be really helpful, sure.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, it's going to be like, this team is going to do as far as their defense takes them.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, their defense took them far enough to sort of.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: hang around in games and the offense with finish up, but when the offense got stressed, like the defense, they defense couldn't do more, right?
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: So this year, I think the offense is going to be great.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how concerned either of us are, although we might talk about it in our, in the second half of this discussion.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh,
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's really going to be what is the defense going to do, right?
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: How is the defense going to support and like turn the tide for this team?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think unlike solid system and the more prototypical Seattle covered three, which you know, was already changed.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: I won't like say that like it's the same thing, the solution of boom was running.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: This defense I think attacks more in so far is
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's not set up to sort of have the offense deal with like something that's difficult to work with.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: This defense is set up to make the offense make a mistake.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: So that's I think going to be really really fun to see play out on Thursday.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: So my expert usual with these week one episodes, my things are, my reasons for optimism are mostly kind of like, oh, you know, like it's week one and anything in happen.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Although I don't think that's really the case so much here because I don't think these teams are as unevenly matched as many in the league circles want us to think.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's that's true.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think these are two good teams to play off teams of playoff app or aspirations.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: Two teams with dare say Super Bowl aspirations.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the Rams are a little more quote unquote all in on that given the age of some of their.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: their core players.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, in the 49ers are, I think, right there too, the problem is that they play in a division that features the Rams and the defending Super Bowl champs, which is just really unfortunate given the situation.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you, and you alluded to this, and we talked about this a little bit on the last episode, I think you got to, like, I think the travel situation is going to matter.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: People are trying to poo poo it and I think some of that might be like it's the rams and the rams are going to be fine, but man like just looking at some of the pictures of the foreigners getting off the airplane
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: like they look tired, man, it's a long trip, it's, I mean, even though they're in a fairly luxurious travel situation, like I just don't, like an even if jet lag is not a problem, like they're, they're legs and they're, and like, just being cooped up for that period of time, and then hours later, trying to get up and play a football game, and so I saw some, some, some,
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Some commentary where people like, well, the 49ers are making a mistake about being here so early because their body clocks are going to be all off and nobody plays a football game at 10 30 in the morning and their bodies still are still going to think it's 10 30 and they're going to like be a tune and they're like, oh, it's 10 30 in the morning.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: But as you mentioned last time, and this is true for the Rams, too, because our West Coast team, I think both these teams are capable of playing 10 o'clock in the morning games, because they play 10 o'clock in the morning, body clock games all the time, when they go to the East Coast.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that kind of is a wash, and I kind of think that if it comes down to it, if this game is close for three quarters, and it comes down to the fourth quarter, and you're like, right, who is the most alert and on top of there where they need to be, I just kind of feel like advantage 49ers, I don't know.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, neither of us know exactly how that's going to play out.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think as a result, it's hard to really bank on it, if that makes sense, but I totally agree with you, right?
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: There's there's absolutely no reason to think that like somehow magically like
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you can't have such different approaches to like travel in this game and have it not make an impact.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the miners took the quote and put safer approach.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like, we'll see how it impacts them week two, week three, so on and so forth.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: But I think for this game, they took the right approach and we'll see how it goes.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: So totally with you on that.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is that, I mean, in this non-small thing,
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: We said the rams gave up a home game to do this and the joke is and Kyle Janan sort of fueled this fire a little bit by saying things on National television and and stuff to like you know, it's like the rams didn't want to play us at their home because they're worried about it's always taken over the stadium
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it kind of seems like that's going to happen to them in Melbourne too.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think you mentioned this in the last episode as well, like there is a sense of the foreign owners are a, have a stronger presence among Australians and amongst people who are traveling there and just the fact that they've been out there for a couple of days.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: They've been, if they're, if there are people that were like, oh, it's going to go to the game and I was just going to cheer for
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I hope both teams win kind of thing.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you wonder if maybe they won over some some people they just be in around this past week.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally agree.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, they're gonna have a home field advantage.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I saw some, like, I don't know if this is like a legitimate stat, so I'm not gonna, like, say this with confidence.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: But something as crazy as, like, someone said 90% of the stadium.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's all that, too.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, okay, 90%.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like a lot.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: That is definitely a lot.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: But if that's true, that's way better than, like,
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so if I was I was actually about to say Levi's south.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: That was the first thing that came to mind also true.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know so that was that's that's that's that's what I that's why I think of when I think about the ham stay and with the Niners are playing I think like yeah, I mean it's going to be.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be hard to separate this game into just the football.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be other stuff around, but to be fair, that's true for every game, right?
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's never just the football.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll be a, I do think the Niners have set themselves up.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, for Thursday, slash Friday's game.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not just the football if things are relative like these are the kinds of like we're talking about these edges because we expect the football to be
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: all in all fairly even, right?
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think if this were against a different team that was maybe not as good as the 49ers, then we'd start to get into, okay, all that other stuff is cool and everything, but as you are prone to saying, the 49ers are just a better football team and as you've already said, you can't say that this time.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so you have to start looking for those little edges, like where are these little tiny things that could maybe make a difference over the course of a long football game.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: the rest situation and the health situation and if they're even if it's not 90, you know, 90, 10, if it's out of, even if it's 60, 40, 40 honors fans, that's still 60,000 people versus 40,000 people and it could make a difference.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely good.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely good.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, the margins matter for this game.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like as you said,
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, all right.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, um, I think you alluded to it earlier, but, um, what, what, what, what do you concerned about for this one?
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Miles Garrett.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how else it's like, we previewed the, uh, the nine or spring, the Browns.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was like, Miles Garrett is on the ground and pretty much just he could win that game.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Eddie did a couple of years ago.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: I, yeah, that doesn't go away.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's wearing Rams colors, right?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: He is one of one.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: He is one of the only, like, players in the NFL, whose single handlead can win a game on his own, just like if he takes it over.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not just him, right?
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they have, oh my gosh, I don't want to,
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm forgetting his first name.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: But they have a young, the defensive tackle, Brandon Fist, the other defensive tackle.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: They went and just decided to get like in all pro-corner and try to make Duffy.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like that defense is talented at every position.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that like, it's kind of cliche to be like the 49est struggle against really talented defenses.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: But that's what we saw last year.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: They played the best defense in the NFL.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: and they got absolutely demolished.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that same concern could exist here, right?
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the Rams defense could pitch a shutout.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: This game, I would be sad, but I wouldn't necessarily be surprised.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: It like, there's talent all across the board.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I think,
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: The concern is that the 49ers' offensive line isn't fully set, it's still jelling together.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't really add new people other than at left guard, so you have this concern over.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, the offensive line didn't block well for the run last year, what's going to change this year, right?
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what's the new team thing that makes the run game work?
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we have Mike Evans now.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Evans is going to be big for this team, but as Mike does Mike Evans have the juice necessarily to get free against McDuffie who not to bring get bad memories basically shut down Brandon and you can super bowl right like it's a really talented defense and so the 49ers that like
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy to say, like, because I think we associate the rams with their offense and with Matthew Stanford and Sean McVay, but really I think like.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: the strength on strength match up here for the 49ers is their offense versus the Rams defense.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: But because like, you know, I just said, I think the 49ers defense has a chance to do really well against the Rams and stop the run.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's a disparity.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams offense, I think, is more talented than the 49ers defense right now.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's a hard matchup.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: The miners essentially have to play the Ram's defense to a draw, to even have a chance.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just hard.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's the way basically every good team functions, right?
- 38:54[SPEAKER_00]: Every real well rounded NFL team.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have to fire on all cylinders to win a football game, and that's true for the Ram's here, like their defense.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: can win this game for them, just by themselves, and it wouldn't be an aberration.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Their offense could do the same, too.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: They are capable of doing both very easily.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think for the 49ers, the risk is that they kind of get run into by a chainsaw, essentially, of a defense.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: Byron Young, by the way, is the, thank you.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, did you know that Jack Bowmeaster, the punter, the 49ers had, is on the Rams practice
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: You see, yeah, all the secret, given them all the secrets Jack.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: We know what you're up to.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Jack knows anything that it was even with the team for like eight days or something.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: It was not long, but anyway, so yeah, I mean, that's that's your that's the concern, right?
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: This is maybe, you know, this is the best team in the NFL question mark.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're certainly in the top.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: three, right?
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: Without question.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, it's concerning because as you said, if they, because just shutting down one part of it, like if you, if the 49ers defense, like does really well against their offense, it doesn't mean that the 49ers offense is going to do enough against this Ram's defense to put up much of a fight.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's the concern, right, is that
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: your defense could have the best day ever and their defense could also have the best day ever and what's the most likely out what what feels like the most likely outcome is that it's some point their offense is going to get the 49ers defense and not vice versa.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's not like hard and fast like they cannot it's not like the foreigners can't get to them it's just like if you had to put the range of outcomes as I like to talk about right is that the 49ers defense good against the offense against the Rams offense but I think but you have to like unit for unit you'd have to say the Rams have
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: have have the advantage on both sides.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: Now, if you start breaking it down a little bit more, you could probably see places where, oh, the Niners could have a little advantage here and all that kind of stuff.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: But it's not, it doesn't, it doesn't feel that way.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: All things being equal.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look, at the end of the day, right?
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: The 40, like, the four-anterners offense, I don't think has the luxury per se to make a lot of mistakes.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the Rams offense does.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just because of the way that like the disparity.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well,
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: it's a defense right like they they can make thought their offense can make mistakes because they feel like oh if we throw an interception the defense is gonna either get it back for us or they're gonna stop the other team even though we let them down like that's a confidence that you really don't want their offense to have right and I think like you know we're not like I think the miners can get there but I think we know for sure that the
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm borrowing something catastrophic, the Ram's defense can like essentially do that and I don't know if the Niners defense can do that.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: This sounds a bit hypocritical I know because I just said the reason I'm like optimistic is because of the Niners defense.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm optimistic that the Niners defense won't like get gasped for like 200 yards on the ground, like they did against Seattle.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm optimistic about.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're going to be better for sure.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: but is better good enough?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's a real question.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the Rams defense puts that line really high because I'll put it like this.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: There may be four teams in the NFL right now who I think the 49ers defense loses its margin of arrogance.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the Rams, the Seahawks, the Texans, and the Broncos.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: Those defenses, I think, they're playing all four of those teams this year, yeah?
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: So set for the Texans, I think.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: three out of four.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: And like those defenses, they can wash away.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, they wash away the like amazingness of the 49ers offense because they're that good.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the defense really has to be on it.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you saw that last year when they played the Texans and the Texans were awful last year on offense, I couldn't do anything, but their defense was good enough to keep them
- 43:29[SPEAKER_00]: And you saw it against Seattle, where, uh, well, that was another thing I'll together.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, well, exactly.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like both, both of the final games against Seattle, I think we're indicative of the fact that, like, these, this is a calver of defense that can make the Niners offense look bad.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then, like, I'm just concerned that the 49ers defense can't do that to the Rams offense.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I was uplifting.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: Good conversation.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kidding.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's not your fault.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's my fault because I put them in this order.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: I should we should really think about flipping these so we can end with the happier thing.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: We can flip them depending on how we feel.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's right, that's right.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: But, yeah, if it's for like not feeling good about it, it would be like, so reasons for concern come and first.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but if we're like, they're gonna win, like, let's start with that optimism.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then, because usually inevitably in those games or like, yeah, they're gonna win this game, the reasons for concern, even turn into reasons for optimism.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, well, this other team,
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're in a field players for sure.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's a thing and then we're like, yeah, but that's not meant to.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: They tuned potentially for next week for some of that analysis.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, well, yeah, for sure.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, well, next two weeks, it's because it's really far away.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, the second game, so that'll be fun.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 44:48[UNKNOWN]: Cool.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, OXOUS, let's do it.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let's wrap this up.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say, let's do predictions for the game.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: What, I mean, like, I like, do I think the rams are a better team?
- 45:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think travel is going to have a huge impact?
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: Not really.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not, I'm not comfortable like putting a prediction on the travel difference.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: But am I going to pick against like, we're a fan podcast at the end.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's right, dude.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we do this because we're fans of the team.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not going to pick against the team and they're like, home opener or I weigh open or season opener.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: Play it just not, right?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think, um,
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: I would feel bad doing that.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think like I think it's going to be lower scoring than people expect.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: Things going to be uglier than people expect.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't imagine.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I'm going to walk out of that game feeling good about the 49ers offense at all.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to feel like.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: fine about the defense and it's really going to feel like, wow, these teams were operating yet like 70% and the nine are just squicked a doubt.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to go, um, 2019 or 21, let me do 21, 20, 20.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that opinion, Eddie Pinear for the win.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that doesn't work.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's like get it's real weird.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: Can they, if you all feel goals?
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: good.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: That I don't I don't know what are like recap what's looked like if it was all field goals.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: Is that right, three, six, nine?
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get to 21?
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, seven.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 18, 21.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: The amazing good job, Eddie Penaire.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's all ready to go.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: He seems fired up.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going a little bit of a higher scoring, but I'm also going pretty close, 27, 23, 49ers.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: Similar kind of thing.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: Where it's just like, how do we really know what impact the travel will have?
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like, as I said before, if it's close at the end and start getting into the final parts of the game,
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I would feel a little bit more comfortable being on the 49er side with all the, with the things with the way that they've handled the travel.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right, actually as any final words before I wrap this thing up.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: Just, you know, we may enter a lot.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna be more focused once we have like stats in front of us.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: Again, it's week one for us today.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: But no, I'm just super pumped.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's, it's gonna like stress me so much what the game happens.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I haven't like, so I'm gonna have to remember how to like, be functional while watching football.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of, I lose hard skill after a,
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: during the offseason but I mean I'm excited how could you not be excited right if you're like if you're listening to this podcast you're a fan of this team you're a fan of football it's week one it's like Christmas Halloween name your favorite holiday right and that's it's that's like that it's like that essentially in your Halloween I knew years he knew there yeah there is that you I love the two options are Christmas an Halloween that's fantastic you're the best
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'm giddy at the fact that we get to watch competitive NFL football with our like favorite team playing.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, it's, I don't know how the season is going to go.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: I hope it goes well.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it won't.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: But that means there's just so much possibility, right?
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: Sometime I feel like we get on this podcast and when we feel like we want to we know how we how the story of the season's gonna go We're just hoping the team lives up to it.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what Robert and I are gonna tell you whenever we do our end of season Retrap.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: I genuinely could have been sitting here and being like well Time to tear it down.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're like they did it.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly again the range of outcomes are wide on this one like I don't think they're gonna be the worst team in the league, but
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: it could be a disappointing season where they missed the playoffs and that's sort of thing.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_00]: But exactly and I'm just I am so excited just to like see how it goes and I'm excited that you all are on this ride with this.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes indeed.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right well Thursday night Netflix get your seven day trial in if you haven't already done that and then don't forget to don't forget to cancel it.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: If you do not currently have a Netflix count and you are going to do it for just for the game by all like I would be remiss if I did not say.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: Do what you got to do in that regard.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so there we go.
