- 0:52you want to capture that fall essence, definitely check out
- 0:55Gunfitter Beer Co. We have an absolutely packed
- 0:59show today. There's so much to dive into.
- 1:01There's so much to get into as far as college, as far as NFL.
- 1:05We've had Week 2 in college kind of come through.
- 1:08We've had a lot of surprises. We've even already had some
- 1:11firings happen. Which I think is going to be a
- 1:15predicator to what's probably going to end up happening.
- 1:19A. Little bit later on in the
- 1:20season and we're going to discuss one of those pretty in
- 1:22depth with Mike Norville and I think his time at Florida State
- 1:25is coming to an end. Unfortunately, we even had.
- 1:28A couple upsets with Oregon and Michigan or Oklahoma both being
- 1:32upset by Oklahoma State and Michigan as well as kind.
- 1:36Of some NFL surprises, too. So without further ado, let's go
- 1:41ahead and just dive into. Into all of them, because
- 1:44there's a whole lot to talk about, as I kind of mentioned.
- 1:49We've got we've already got some firings.
- 1:51We've got Florida State firing their athletic director, Michael
- 1:55Alford. He's been there since 2021.
- 1:59It's kind of the writing on the wall.
- 2:00I mean the last few seasons Florida State has gone 3 and 14
- 2:04and ACC play by itself. They went from 2023 where they
- 2:08were 13 and one. They were the division champ.
- 2:11They were the. Conference champs of the ACC,
- 2:13The first time, at least in the conference, to the College
- 2:17Football Playoffs at a conference champion, especially
- 2:20undefeated conference. Champion had never been left
- 2:22out. They ended up getting picked in
- 2:24favor of Texas. Out of the Big 12 at the time
- 2:27and then Alabama having won the SEC, Texas only lost to Kansas
- 2:31State that year, I believe. And then Alabama, actually,
- 2:33their only loss was to Texas, so.
- 2:37And they weren't going to leave either.
- 2:38One of them out and it would have been hard to be able to
- 2:41justify it. So nonetheless, Florida State
- 2:43gets the short end of the stick all the way back in 2023.
- 2:48And then it just seemed to go downhill.
- 2:49From there, I mean, they had the bowl game against Georgia.
- 2:52They get absolutely destroyed. I think it was like 63 to 3 or
- 2:5663 to nothing. That following season.
- 2:59They had a lot of guys transfer out.
- 3:01They had a lot of guys end up getting drafted to the NFL.
- 3:04Florida State starts off the year in Ireland that year, ends
- 3:07up losing and then ends up finishing the year as a total
- 3:11grand total of 2 and 10 record. Probably one of the worst that
- 3:15they've. Had I think.
- 3:16It's the worst they had since the 70s if I remember the date
- 3:19correctly. Then they follow up last season.
- 3:23They get a really big win. They stun.
- 3:25Alabama at home. And it's like, OK, then they
- 3:29start out three, you know, it's like, all right, you know, maybe
- 3:31maybe they really have turned the turned the ship.
- 3:34Maybe it was just a fluke. You know Jordan Travis is gone,
- 3:37but Nike Morbell can still coach.
- 3:39And come to find out. That was not the case.
- 3:40I believe they end up finishing. Four and eighth.
- 3:43They ended up losing I think. Seven out of their last nine
- 3:46games, which ultimately ended up being a really bad season for
- 3:51Florida State when the highlight was being able to beat Alabama.
- 3:55Then we come into this season, they struggle against New Mexico
- 3:58State in Week 0. It's like, OK, like, like maybe
- 4:01it's a little bit of rust, but you know, for a lot of, if
- 4:04you're a Florida State fan, for a lot of them, you're kind of
- 4:06sitting here going. Yeah, I, I don't know about.
- 4:09This like we're a little bit worried that you're struggling
- 4:11against the school like New Mexico State.
- 4:13Then they turn around and albeit it was a super delayed attempt
- 4:18as far as their lighting goes down there in Hooks Campbell
- 4:21Stadium, they were finally able to get the lights on and play
- 4:26SMU and they at least kept it close.
- 4:28They kept it within a field goal.
- 4:29They were going, you know, punch for punch with them.
- 4:33But the the other side of it though, when you really look at
- 4:36it, SMU kept trying to give them that game.
- 4:38I mean, SMU's offense was just not moving very well.
- 4:41And it seemed like the guys at Florida State were truly trying
- 4:44to play their hearts out, but it just ultimately ended up falling
- 4:47short. And so they so they lose.
- 4:51I think they were. Off this week.
- 4:53And then this. Coming week they have Alabama so
- 4:58but they have an in Tuscaloosa and truly I think.
- 5:01This is going to be one of those Florida State sitting there at
- 5:041:00 and 2:00. They've already fired the
- 5:06athletic director, which is not a good, not a good sign if
- 5:10you're Mike. Norvell because that means your
- 5:13seat is getting even. Hotter.
- 5:15Because now the guy that. Pretty much just kept you around
- 5:19is gone and now you're sitting here like, am I still going to
- 5:23be the coach? And their schedule doesn't get
- 5:25any easier because I mean, they they go to Alabama, then they
- 5:28host Central Arkansas. That should be a win.
- 5:30But then Virginia, then Louisville, then Miami.
- 5:32Those are all three currently at the moment ranked match ups that
- 5:35they have to face and. Then they have.
- 5:38Clemson, Boston College, Pitt, North Carolina State and then
- 5:41they finish the year against Florida.
- 5:45I mean you maybe, maybe. Have for sure one more win
- 5:50against Central Arkansas, and then after that maybe against
- 5:53Boston College, maybe against Clemson because you're hosting
- 5:57them. But you have to go 2 pit and
- 5:59it's November. So it's going to be cold maybe
- 6:02against NC State because it's the end of the year and then
- 6:05Florida's going to play you hard because it's a because it's an N
- 6:07State rivalry. So I don't see that ending very
- 6:09well as a whole. Nonetheless, though I mean it,
- 6:13it's kind of a I'm not going. To say a disappointing time, but
- 6:16it does lead to a. Interesting topic that has been
- 6:20brought up as far as. Basically, it's like the like
- 6:25the retrial demand of coaches and the two biggest.
- 6:29Names that are apparently probably going to be out there
- 6:32for this next coaching cycle, depending on whatever jobs open
- 6:35up, I think. Florida State's going to be one
- 6:38of those jobs more than likely. I think Wisconsin will probably
- 6:41be one of the other jobs that opens up there.
- 6:44Towards the end of the season, as far as who's going to fire
- 6:46their coach, Baylor is probably another one that I would
- 6:49probably keep an eye on as far as, you know, possible coach
- 6:53openings and there may be a few others that are probably major
- 6:58surprises. But I think.
- 7:00The three big ones will probably be Wisconsin, Florida State,
- 7:05more than likely Baylor. I know Clemson could potentially
- 7:09be up there with Dabo but I think their buy out for him is
- 7:12significantly like pretty damaging if I remember.
- 7:16Seeing a a math post about it, I think if they would cut him now
- 7:22it wouldn't be as bad, but if they wait to.
- 7:24Try to cut him next year, his buyout value actually goes up.
- 7:29So I think they are stuck with him until I think 2028 or 2029.
- 7:34They're at Clemson, so don't necessarily know if that job's
- 7:38going to be open yet. But who knows, we might see some
- 7:41guys that, you know, they got fired, they got bought out of
- 7:43their contract and then maybe they come.
- 7:45Back as far as the head coach. Maybe it's Brian Kelly.
- 7:47I don't know if Brian Kelly has as much just because of how he
- 7:52finished at Cincinnati, how he finished.
- 7:54At Notre Dame. Then he comes to LSU and it's
- 7:57like, Oh no, I need oh man, I have all the resources now to
- 8:00LSU. And that's great.
- 8:01And when you sit here and you look at it, if you look at it
- 8:04purely. From a record.
- 8:06Standpoint, he did do a good job.
- 8:10Now the bad part is is it was kind of the same issue that he
- 8:12had at. Notre Dame, He was losing big
- 8:14games. When it mattered.
- 8:15It looked like the team was not well coached.
- 8:17The offense couldn't move. Post post Jane Daniels, that
- 8:21offense was absolutely. Awful.
- 8:22I mean the the year with Garrett Nesmeyer when he first got his
- 8:25start was pretty decent. The defense needed a lot of
- 8:28help. Finally gets a good defense with
- 8:31Blake Baker. It has continued to improve
- 8:34every single season. Then last year, Garrett Nesmeyer
- 8:36was hurt again. The offense was absolutely
- 8:38awful. Defense was still top tier.
- 8:40I mean that that defense was great for LSU last year but just
- 8:44couldn't get it done. So I don't know if Brian Kelly
- 8:47gets another shot. If he does, maybe a group of 6
- 8:50school, honestly, but I maybe maybe he's the one that tries to
- 8:54go to Florida State. I think honestly, if I'm Florida
- 8:56State, why not try to run it back with Jimbo Fisher?
- 8:59I mean, at this point, what else do you have to lose?
- 9:01It doesn't seem like they're willing to invest.
- 9:03In the roster for Mike Norville. I think that I think.
- 9:06That ship has basically sailed. I think they've run their course
- 9:08with them. I think they're done with Mike
- 9:10Norville as a whole. Which is kind of sad.
- 9:14I thought he did great at Memphis.
- 9:15I thought he's doing great for Florida State, albeit not within
- 9:18the last few years post Jordan Travis.
- 9:20It seemed like Jordan Travis who really made Mike Norville their
- 9:24FSU, but nonetheless. I I think.
- 9:27He's I think once they lose to Alabama, unless they just pull
- 9:30out some incredible victory again and win in Tuscaloosa, I
- 9:35think this will probably be. One of the last games we see
- 9:38Mike Norville coach in for Florida State.
- 9:40We'll see. Moving on though, let's talk
- 9:43about my favorite team. Because I have a little bit of
- 9:46bias LSU at with hosting Louisiana Tech and I'm not going
- 9:51to spend a whole. Lot of time on this because
- 9:54there's There's a lot to unpack here, but but there's.
- 9:58Not at the same time, if that makes sense.
- 10:01This is one of those games that. I think Lane Kiffin kind of
- 10:05summarized it the most. One of the things that you.
- 10:07Have to fight the absolute hardest as a coach is
- 10:10complacency is getting comfortable is.
- 10:13You know, being having these guys absolutely be praised and
- 10:16told, you know, hey, you guys are you guys are best.
- 10:19Look at what you did to Clemson. You guys should be the number
- 10:21one team in the country, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
- 10:24And and that's all fine and great.
- 10:25You boost the ego, but then a lot of complacency comes into
- 10:28play. Then you have a lot of like, oh
- 10:31man, you know, they're like, look how great we are, like we
- 10:34should roll Louisiana Tech no problem.
- 10:37And Louisiana Tech was absolutely.
- 10:38Not having it and quite frankly, I do not blame them.
- 10:41You know, they came in that defensive line for Louisiana
- 10:44Tech was absolutely fantastic. It was hard for Levitt to throw
- 10:49the ball. It was hard for LSU to run the
- 10:50ball as a whole. Really the only?
- 10:53The only. Thing that saved them was the
- 10:55fact that Levitt was using his legs quite a bit, which I I know
- 11:00I said it before and I'll say it again, you're not going to be
- 11:02able to survive an SEC schedule if you keep running like that.
- 11:05It's just absolutely not going to happen.
- 11:11But I mean this and and I want to give.
- 11:13Credit to to Louisiana because they really are a good football
- 11:17team. They're more than likely going
- 11:18to win the Sunbelt. If they don't win it, they're
- 11:22going to be in a huge contention for it as as they should be.
- 11:26Nonetheless though, I mean the the passing game though is
- 11:29really what worries me. And here's the crazy part.
- 11:31Whenever I say that, it's like I'm I'm worried about the
- 11:34passing game. So far in the games that Levitt
- 11:39has played for LSU, passing wise, he's thrown for a.
- 11:45Little Little under 600 yards, 574 yards.
- 11:48Averages about 8.7 yards per pass, 2 touchdowns, 4 picks,
- 11:53three of them coming in this game.
- 11:55He's been sacked five times but it's rushing.
- 11:58He's got 23 carries. He already has 135 yards.
- 12:01He's got 5 rushing. Touchdowns to boot, so.
- 12:03Total 7 touchdowns to 4 picks. It's like, OK, that's it, that
- 12:07that. That's really not making me.
- 12:10Sit here. All.
- 12:11All warm and fuzzy. You know, the the first game
- 12:15against Clemson is it's a better defense.
- 12:17I kind of expected. That to maybe be a little bit
- 12:19rough. He was 16 to 28230 passing
- 12:22touchdown. A pick wasn't sacked at all, but
- 12:25he only completed about 57% of his passes.
- 12:28But he did have 113 yards to ground two rushing touchdowns.
- 12:32Louisiana Tech a little bit better is about 66% completion
- 12:36percentage 25 and a 38344. One touchdown, but. 3 picks he
- 12:42sacked. Five times.
- 12:44But he had three rushing touchdowns.
- 12:45So I mean, they were they were absolutely getting after him.
- 12:47Again, hats off to Louisiana Tech because they absolutely did
- 12:51their job and 10 times more do I do not want to take anything
- 12:54away from them. This morning's doing, that goes.
- 12:57It does. It does make me worried.
- 12:59It makes me. Have a lot of question marks
- 13:00for. Lane Kiffin for this offense, as
- 13:03as it goes now, obviously we're only two weeks into the season.
- 13:06That's still a lot of getting used to guys still a lot of
- 13:08chemistry being built. It's not.
- 13:11The end of the world but through A2 game sample size yes you can
- 13:16run the ball and that's absolutely great I I love to see
- 13:18it you're not going to be able. To do that.
- 13:20Against Texas A&M, you're probably not even going to be
- 13:22able to do it against this game coming up against Old Miss.
- 13:24Same with Alabama, same with Texas, same with Tennessee.
- 13:27All of those guys you have on your schedule, you're not going
- 13:29to be able to do that that entire time against that type of
- 13:32talent and against that type of quality.
- 13:34So I I hope. As the season progresses, Sam is
- 13:38able to kind of come into his own, maybe relax a little bit,
- 13:41get a little bit more comfortable.
- 13:42In the pocket. You know, and I'm not saying he
- 13:44can't move, He can absolutely be mobile.
- 13:47You, you can't be running, making some of the moves that
- 13:49you're that you're making because otherwise you're going
- 13:51to get hurt. And there goes the season.
- 13:53Not. Saying it's championship.
- 13:54Or bust. But there's a very, very high
- 13:57chance the roster is very good. There's a whole lot of money
- 13:59into this roster. I would hope that the contention
- 14:02is at least there, I just don't want Levy getting hurt before
- 14:06that can even happen. Nonetheless, though, happy that
- 14:09LSU got the win, even though I was worried there 'cause one of
- 14:12those touchdowns that Louisiana Tech scored was 100 yard pick 6,
- 14:16and I was. Like Oh my God, please no one.
- 14:19Game though that it this was actually a.
- 14:22Really ugly game and I heard people talking about this
- 14:27yesterday, even Monday. One of the guys I work with, he
- 14:30is a Mizzou. Fan, He was kind of tuning in
- 14:33and out of it 38 to 21 Mizzou over Kansas this and believe me,
- 14:40the first half of this game was not.
- 14:42Pretty. It was not a pretty game.
- 14:44It was rough to watch. I kind of flipped on and off of
- 14:47it 'cause I'm like. What are we?
- 14:49What are we doing it? And it's not like I expected.
- 14:51Mizzou to absolutely. Run away with it.
- 14:53I know Ahmad Hardy is unfortunately out due to a non
- 14:57football injury. Thoughts and prayers for him.
- 15:00Hoping that he's able to recover soon.
- 15:02But it was one of those, I'm sitting here watching it like,
- 15:04what in the world is going on right now with this game?
- 15:12It it was 1, you know, Austin Simmons actually looked pretty
- 15:15good and and it was kind of weird because at least in the
- 15:181st. Half of all they were, they were
- 15:22tied at 14 to 14. So I'm like, OK, the game's
- 15:24significantly closer than than what I thought it was going to
- 15:27be. But the running back for Mizzou
- 15:30actually stepped up. Jamal Roberts, now Kansas,
- 15:33apparently did not want him to run.
- 15:34He had 28 carries. They lead ON20125 rushing yards,
- 15:38he and a touchdown. But Simmons, he was 19 to 29,
- 15:41three touchdowns, 292 yards in the air.
- 15:44Kansas just kept turning the ball over.
- 15:46You know, Isaiah Marshall kept, you know, he was 2 picks, 2
- 15:49touchdowns. He was 13 to 30.
- 15:51They couldn't really run the ball.
- 15:53Penalties also ended up ultimately hurting them too.
- 15:55So it it was a close game that I mean, this is one of those it's
- 15:58an old Big 12 rivalry. So we kind of expected this to
- 16:00be a little bit closer. It's just one of those when I
- 16:03was looking at it, I was doing my pick.
- 16:05I just didn't know what to expect in Kansas.
- 16:07Kansas is one of those. I know the first couple of years
- 16:10under Lance Leopold they had like they were coming out the
- 16:13gate like 7 and O like oh crap. And then that's kind of died
- 16:17down. Obviously now with nil it's
- 16:19probably changed a little bit, but.
- 16:22For the most part, I still never.
- 16:23Really know what to expect out of Kansas.
- 16:25It's one of those and and I know I'm going to be considered kind
- 16:28of old school and thinking about it.
- 16:30To me, Kansas is a basketball school that happens to have an
- 16:33OK football. Program and I know it's kind of
- 16:36an archaic. Way of thinking, but that's just
- 16:38kind of how I see them currently.
- 16:40Next game though, the one that probably surprised me the most.
- 16:45Oregon falls to Oklahoma State in Stillwater and.
- 16:50This is after a pretty significant weather delay as far
- 16:54as I believe they had rained and they had lightning in the area,
- 16:58so they ended up delaying this game by about an hour and a
- 17:01half. Ultimately, and it was one of
- 17:04those and I was like, well, I really want to watch this game
- 17:06because it's going to be interesting because I want to
- 17:08see how does Oklahoma State respond post the big loss to
- 17:12Tulsa? You know more not really big
- 17:14loss, but more of a disappointing Tulsa and they end
- 17:18up coming out. It starts out Drew Mestemaker
- 17:21has like a 79 yard run against Oregon to start out the game and
- 17:25I'm like. Whoa, like that's that's kind of
- 17:28weird that they let that busted coverage happen, but it's like,
- 17:30OK, it's not. The end of the world.
- 17:33But I'm a little bit surprised they Oregon ends up holding him
- 17:37in a field goal. Like, OK, like now Oregon, they
- 17:40they kind of popped into the mouth.
- 17:41Oregon's like, wait a minute now.
- 17:42Now we're going to wake. Up a little bit, Oregon's not
- 17:46able to score. Oklahoma State goes back all the
- 17:49way down. And then Devon.
- 17:51Jackson gets a 90. 6 yard interception return for a.
- 17:54Touchdown. So they take the lead.
- 17:57Oklahoma State gets a touchdown. Then Caleb Hawkins, the running
- 18:00back, gets a touchdown. He ended up having a pretty
- 18:02decent day of 110 yards in the touchdown run.
- 18:05And then Oregon was staying pretty well in pace with them.
- 18:07They they scored a touchdown and cut the lead back down to three.
- 18:11Oklahoma State started to pull away again with a touchdown.
- 18:13Oregon kicked the field goal. That that ended the half.
- 18:16So they were only down by 7 and then it was just it was just
- 18:20basically back and forth. And I mean it.
- 18:22This is one of those when I looked at it.
- 18:25And Joel Clapp brought this up on his show and I thought it was
- 18:27a pretty good comparison and. When you look at a lot of the
- 18:30Oregon roster, there is apparently a lot of guys that
- 18:33they had the opportunity, they could have gone to the NFL and
- 18:36they would have gone probably pretty high picks.
- 18:39I don't. Necessarily know about first
- 18:40round, but they were projected to go pretty high in the NFL
- 18:43draft last year and they decided, hey, you know what,
- 18:45let's do one more year, let's run it back.
- 18:47We're going to be experienced. We're NFL talent, basically.
- 18:51Let's see if we can't go win a national championship for
- 18:53Oregon. And they do that.
- 18:56And they, they stumbled against Boise State.
- 18:59And of course, it's week 1. We're like, well, maybe Boise
- 19:01State's a little bit better than what we thought.
- 19:03And I I still think that's true. Boise State has a lot of
- 19:06experience. They've constantly, always,
- 19:09through NIL or not through NIL, Boise State has been a.
- 19:12Pretty consistently good Group of 6 school throughout the time.
- 19:16And we're thinking, OK, maybe maybe Boise State's just better.
- 19:20Oregon's got a little bit of rust.
- 19:22Like having to get used to things.
- 19:23Oregon ultimately pulls out the wind and it's like, OK, ugly but
- 19:27tough. Like they're going to get a
- 19:28little bit a little bit of a test and then they go to
- 19:30Oklahoma State, who you would think, OK.
- 19:32They lost to Tulsa like. Maybe you'll go, you know,
- 19:35they're having a really transition.
- 19:36They're having to kind of feel their own and then they just pop
- 19:39Oregon in the mouth and they absolutely shock the entire
- 19:43world. With a huge win over the Ducks,
- 19:46I'm going to say this. It dropped Oregon all the way
- 19:48down to, I believe, 21. Yeah, I think 21 in the AP.
- 19:53Top 25 polls. It it's not the end of the
- 19:56world, I do think that's going to be a lot of question Marks
- 20:00and now Oregon is going to have to be in an uphill battle.
- 20:04And as long as they don't really lose another game, unless the
- 20:08other game is to say a big opponent like if they lose to
- 20:11Ohio State or if they lose to USC at.
- 20:15That point you have to hope. That one of those teams does
- 20:18really well because then it's a quote, UN quote.
- 20:22Quality loss which? I hate that term, but
- 20:24unfortunately that's how it is whenever they look at the
- 20:26rankings. As long as they have that,
- 20:30they'll do better and it's a better chance than getting into
- 20:32a 12 team playoff format rather than actually, you know, we have
- 20:37a couple really bad losses and. Then it's a really bad time,
- 20:41especially because of all the talent that Oregon has, because
- 20:44of all the depths that they have.
- 20:45It's it's rough. Joy.
- 20:48I'm so glad you were here. I can't believe you're Saints.
- 20:51Against the Lions, I will. I'm not going to talk super deep
- 20:54into it today, but I can't believe you're Saints almost
- 20:57pulled it out. I was sitting there thinking,
- 20:59again, Joy is absolutely going to roast me on Tuesday.
- 21:03If she sees this, especially if they end up pulling out the
- 21:06wind. Joy's going to be like I told
- 21:07you so. And.
- 21:09I have to eat grill. It's just what I got to do.
- 21:12Nonetheless, though, big surprise with the Oregon Fall in
- 21:14Oklahoma State. Another big upset win that I was
- 21:19not expecting. Oklahoma rolls into Ann Arbor,
- 21:22into the Big House and gets absolutely stunned by Michigan
- 21:28being able to hold out for the win, 17 to 10.
- 21:31This was just a This is another one of those.
- 21:34It was a completely and totally ugly game.
- 21:38I know, I know, Joe at just one point.
- 21:40Like I said, I. Thought they were going to do it
- 21:41at first. I was like, oh man.
- 21:43Especially because they started to, they really started to
- 21:45fight. Back and it's like, oh, oh,
- 21:48Detroit's letting them. Detroit's letting them come
- 21:50back. Wait a minute.
- 21:52But but Speaking of the other team in Michigan.
- 21:56This game is what really surprised me is.
- 21:59The fact that it. Looked like John Metier was
- 22:01having a hard time reading the field.
- 22:04And Brady? Quinn kind of mentioned this.
- 22:06I don't know how possibly truthful this is.
- 22:10I'm not saying that he's, he's, you know, telling, telling
- 22:13anything other than facts. He, he mentioned, you know,
- 22:16maybe the offensive line, it was too tall for him as far as him
- 22:20being able to see down the field, as far as him being able
- 22:22to make the plays. I think truly it was more of a
- 22:25combination of last year when we saw Oklahoma and John Metier.
- 22:30We saw Ben Arbuckle and him come over from Washington.
- 22:33State. So he kept that continuity with
- 22:36his coordinator. He goes to Oklahoma.
- 22:38It's like, OK, well what's he going to look like?
- 22:40We have film on him at Washington State.
- 22:42Like, what's it look like when he's with a big boy?
- 22:44Team in the SEC. With power four team that has
- 22:47true talent and he was absolutely able to run wild.
- 22:51And I don't I don't think anybody was truly expecting that
- 22:53out of him at the time. And I mean he was a Heisman
- 22:56favorite last year. Now coming into this year I
- 22:59think because now OK. We now have a little bit of a
- 23:02better idea of what Ben Arbuckle and here are going to run as far
- 23:05as offense goes, how the system is going to work, how we're
- 23:08going to ultimately end up dealing with him.
- 23:11It's like, OK, let's let's look at this in a little bit of a
- 23:14different light and. Credit to Michigan's defense.
- 23:18I mean, they, they, they will not let you run the ball.
- 23:21And that's exactly what Oklahoma couldn't do.
- 23:23They couldn't let it. They wouldn't let him run the
- 23:25ball. And let's and let's be realistic
- 23:28about Oklahoma, too. They're wide receiver room
- 23:30because Satania is like the only one there as far as like major
- 23:34wide receivers that it's like, OK.
- 23:36That's that's the big guy. That's their number one target
- 23:38now. They're tight ends.
- 23:39Oklahoma's tight ends are great like, and they were cooking
- 23:42Michigan all day every day. But as far as getting it to a
- 23:45wide receiver, John Mater. Couldn't do it, so big credit to
- 23:50Michigan. Now, again, I do wonder
- 23:52offensively with Michigan. When does Kyle Woodingham
- 23:57potentially pull? You know, pull the plug and say,
- 24:00hey, offensively, I think we're being held back and limited by
- 24:03what you got. And in Kyle Woodingham's
- 24:05defense, this is a guy that he comes in, he's got the huge NIL
- 24:10price tag. Like Michigan paid a ton of
- 24:12money for him to, you know, flip from LSU to.
- 24:15Michigan And so Kyle Woodingham, it's like you're kind of
- 24:18expecting to make this work. So it but it does make me.
- 24:22Wonder it's like there's there hasn't been a lot of
- 24:24progression. There's been a lot of question
- 24:26marks as far as how he does it and even still Bryce really
- 24:30didn't win Michigan in the game. I mean, their defense is what's
- 24:33keeping them in play right now and they're making it absolutely
- 24:36tough, but it. It leaves a lot of questions as
- 24:40far as what does Kyle Buddingham do?
- 24:44Moving forward for the future, 'cause I mean, he theoretically
- 24:46he is supposed to be there for the next 5 years now he may, he
- 24:49may not. He's been an older coach.
- 24:51He coached at Utah for 20 years plus.
- 24:54Now he's coming into Michigan, he's how to clean it up.
- 24:57Michigan's going to get a new. Athletic director who?
- 24:59Knows how he and the new athletic director are going to
- 25:01go, 'cause maybe the new AD kind of gives him the same thing of
- 25:04like, yeah, you're not really my guy.
- 25:05I didn't pick you. I inherited you from the other
- 25:08guy. I don't think that'll be the
- 25:10case just because of obviously how well Kyle Whittingham
- 25:12coaches, how he is a. Person.
- 25:14I've heard nothing, but, you know, great raving reviews about
- 25:17him from Coach Meyer, from other people who've done interviews
- 25:20with him. They absolutely love Coach
- 25:22Whittingham. But it it, it, it'll be, it'll
- 25:26be interesting to see how does he mold the shape of this
- 25:30program moving forward in the future.
- 25:31And I think he, I think he will do a good job.
- 25:33I don't know how good Michigan is going to be.
- 25:37And even if Kyle does. Is able to finish out his
- 25:40contract there. If he doesn't, no matter what
- 25:42the case may be, I think he is a good enough coach.
- 25:45He will lay a good foundation for them to be able to work
- 25:47with, for them to be able to. Have something to go off of and
- 25:52rejuvenate and become a successful program again.
- 25:55But I do wonder, when does he kind of be the the?
- 25:58Parent in the room and say, hey, we do have a quarterback
- 26:02limitation. I know you guys spent all this
- 26:04money on him, but I don't think Bryce is the guy.
- 26:06And who knows? It's again, it's only I'm going
- 26:09to give him the same grace that I gave to Sam Levitt.
- 26:11I'm going to give him the same grace that I gave to Oregon.
- 26:13I'm going to have the same grace I get to just about everybody.
- 26:16It's only. Week 2, like it's, it's new
- 26:19guys, it's a new system, it's whole new everything as far as
- 26:22getting used to. So it's not to the end of the
- 26:24world. Now if we get into Week 5 and
- 26:26Week 6, OK, that's a little bit of a different.
- 26:29Story because now you've had about a month, maybe more as far
- 26:32as real games, you know, true chemistry practices are a little
- 26:36bit different, you know, travel tendencies are getting learned
- 26:39at that point so. I'm not not hit the panic button
- 26:42yet. I'm not even saying that it's.
- 26:43Warm. Yet.
- 26:45But I do get to say it's. One thing that I think you have
- 26:48to really watch. Is how does Michigan do their
- 26:51offense moving? Forward and another game that
- 26:56this one was kind of, I'm not going to say disappointing.
- 26:58It was disappointing in how it ended up, how the final one, how
- 27:03it ended up finishing Kentucky versus Alabama.
- 27:08This was a great. Game in the 1st.
- 27:10Half. And it was one of those, I was
- 27:12watching it. It felt like Kentucky had all
- 27:15the momentum. I mean, that field was
- 27:18absolutely great. And I don't think I've ever
- 27:20seen. Kroger Field be that ecstatic
- 27:24like they were this past Saturday in the first half, like
- 27:27it was while you could it. Was like, I could see the
- 27:30electricity in the air just from being on, you know, just seeing
- 27:33it on TV. It's like they stopped Alabama.
- 27:36They got the pick on Keylon Russell.
- 27:39They got the, yeah, they got the pick return for a touchdown by
- 27:42by the defensive tackle or defensive end, one of the two.
- 27:46Like immediately they jump out to a huge lead and it's like,
- 27:49Dang, Kentucky might actually run away with this.
- 27:53Like, holy crap. They might actually have a team.
- 27:55And it was one of those when I was sitting there and I was
- 27:57watching it, I was like, man, like I if I remember, LSU has to
- 28:02face Kentucky. I might be a little bit worried
- 28:04about Kentucky now like I, I was not expecting this like hold on,
- 28:09time out, wait a minute and. You know, the the half comes,
- 28:14they kind of try to be cute. They do a little bit of
- 28:16trickery. Ultimately ends up failing.
- 28:19And it feels like from that point forward, the momentum just
- 28:22swung in Alabama's favor. And then they, they ran with it
- 28:26and they never, they never looked.
- 28:28Back I will say this though, if there are any Kentucky Wildcat
- 28:32fans watching or you're listening, wherever you watch or
- 28:36listen. I'm.
- 28:37Everywhere as far as social media, YouTube, podcast.
- 28:39Let me know, comment, tell me. Tell me if I suck, tell me if
- 28:43I'm great. Tell me what you think.
- 28:45I accept any and all opinions, right, wrong and different.
- 28:48I'll I'll hear them out. I read them.
- 28:50I'll definitely, I'll definitely do what I can with them.
- 28:55I think the. Future is bright for Kentucky.
- 28:57Truly, I think Will Stein, because he's from Kentucky,
- 29:01because he grew up watching this team, because this is the team
- 29:04that he idolized as a kid. I think this will be one of
- 29:08those one of those things that it works really well and I think
- 29:12I think what people. Have to have to kind of realize
- 29:16is. It's a little bit different when
- 29:18you when you go from being like an alumni and you come back.
- 29:22So like, you know, Harbaugh with Michigan, Scott Frost with
- 29:26Nebraska. You, you, you kind of come in
- 29:30and the. And the expectations get a
- 29:32little bit weird because you might have had.
- 29:34Success at the college as a player doesn't necessarily
- 29:38always translate over to being a coach and especially with all
- 29:41the different variables and I feel like then.
- 29:43The pressure is even. Higher.
- 29:45Because Oh well, you were great when you're a player here like
- 29:47you. Have to be great as a coach.
- 29:49Like you can't. You can't.
- 29:50Stumble. You can't learn.
- 29:52And no matter what level you're at, no matter how high the
- 29:55coaching tree is, no matter. How high of a?
- 29:58You know hierarchy you're in as far as college coaching goes,
- 30:03you've always got to learn. You've always got to perfect
- 30:06your craft. You've always got to be able to
- 30:07move forward with it. And I feel like for some of
- 30:10these guys. Because the pressure to perform
- 30:13so great and so quickly is there as a coach because of how they
- 30:16were as a player, the the fan bases start to get antsy and
- 30:20it's. Like, Oh no.
- 30:20We expect results right now. And for somewhere like Nebraska,
- 30:24they're a, they're a traditional blue blood.
- 30:26They've had a long tradition of winning.
- 30:28Now here, you know, the last 20 years or so, they've had a
- 30:30really bad tradition of losing, like they've been really bad
- 30:34after being probably one of the best universities in the history
- 30:38of college football forever. Prior to the last.
- 30:41You know, 20 plus years or so. So I think for somebody like
- 30:46Scott Frost going to Nebraska, the expectations were already
- 30:49too high. Same for Harbaugh and Michigan.
- 30:51Now he eventually got there. It took him almost 10 years, but
- 30:54he eventually. Got there.
- 30:55I think for Will Stein in Kentucky, because he's a fan.
- 30:59He's not an alumni, but he's a fan.
- 31:02He's able to connect and he's going to be able to relate.
- 31:04So a. Lot of that passion and
- 31:06intensity for his childhood team and him wanting to ensure that
- 31:10his childhood team is put up for the best.
- 31:12Success that he can is going to be the biggest difference maker
- 31:15now. This first year is probably
- 31:19going to be rough for him like. Just full.
- 31:21Transparency, this first year for Kentucky is probably going
- 31:24to be really rough when I looked at their schedule.
- 31:28This week they go to. Texas A&M, then they host South
- 31:30Alabama, they go to South Carolina, they host LSU, they go
- 31:34to Oklahoma, they host Vandy, they go to Tennessee, they host
- 31:38Kentucky, and then they finish at Mizzou and then hosting
- 31:41Louisville, so. They don't have an easy end of
- 31:43the schedule. They had a really tough, tough
- 31:46little gauntlet there. But I think if they can speak
- 31:50out five to six wins, maybe even be somewhat bowl eligible or
- 31:55bowl contending and just have that positive momentum to build
- 31:59off of and just something positive post the Bob Stoops.
- 32:02Era or or Mark Stoops. Mark Stoops.
- 32:06Sorry, one of the Stoops. The Stoops brothers.
- 32:09I I think. Once they have that positive
- 32:12foundation, that momentum from this season, even if it's
- 32:15something, you know, you know, seven and five, I don't know
- 32:18about 7:00 and 5:00, but you know, 5 and. 76 and six, six and
- 32:22six I would say would be like perfect because you're just
- 32:24right at bowl eligible. I think that would give Kentucky
- 32:27fans, I think they would consider that a pretty
- 32:29successful season. I think it gives them hope as
- 32:32far as building, building towards the future, something
- 32:35positive that's going to help them as far as NIL and
- 32:37recruiting because hey, you know.
- 32:39I was a. Successful recruiter at Oregon.
- 32:41I was a successful coordinator at Oregon and maybe I'm the key
- 32:45reason why at Oregon is struggling right now because
- 32:48they don't have me as an offensive coordinator anymore.
- 32:51So I, I think the future truly is bright in Kentucky.
- 32:55It was just unfortunately how it ultimately ended.
- 32:57Up ending I was. Hoping it was going to be closer
- 32:58with Alabama. I hoped the entire game was
- 33:01going to be like the first half but.
- 33:03Alabama made adjustments and fun fact, Kaylin De Boer now one in
- 33:06seven whenever Alabama is trailing at halftime, has one
- 33:10win against Kentucky. So that's a little bit of a
- 33:13surprise there from Caitlin de Bore in Alabama.
- 33:18And of course, the highlight game of of Saturday, the one
- 33:22that probably surprised everybody the most #1 Ohio State
- 33:26falls to Texas. Last play of the game Basically
- 33:32Texas is able to finally run it into the end zone after being
- 33:35down like 20 to 3. This is one of those I I have a
- 33:40few a few thoughts and a few takeaways from this Joey never.
- 33:46Roll Tide. Never Roll Tide, of course.
- 33:48I do always think of a gift though.
- 33:50It's like the the actual laundry tide like containers.
- 33:55And it's just. Rolling in the wind and it says
- 33:56Roll Tide Roll. I always try to send that
- 33:58whenever I have a whenever I have an Alabama fan message me,
- 34:01I'm like, Oh yeah, this is my favorite gift to send to anybody
- 34:04and everybody that's an Alabama fan.
- 34:07Nonetheless, though, this is one of those that Ohio State goes to
- 34:11Texas. This is a huge game.
- 34:14I mean, this is a huge Testament game.
- 34:16For Arch, for Julian Say, and for Ryan Day, for Steve
- 34:20Sarkisian, you know, this is one of those, no matter what, this
- 34:25was going to be a big game. And and it's and it's kind of.
- 34:29Weird. Some of the conclusions that
- 34:30people have brought from this now I will say.
- 34:33Once Ohio State got that lead of 20 to three, it was like, OK,
- 34:37now they're just going to play more conservatively.
- 34:40Like we're just going to play not to lose kind of thing.
- 34:42And. For the most part, it's worked.
- 34:44I mean, Ohio State has had one of the best defenses in the
- 34:46country for the last few years between Jim Knowles, between
- 34:50Matt and Patricia. Coming in and they've had a ton
- 34:53of talent, but I mean, they've lost a lot of talent.
- 34:56To the draft. You know Sonny Styles, Caleb
- 34:58Downs, you know, Jack Sawyer, all those guys left to go on
- 35:04into the NFL and so now you're. Sitting here, your defense is
- 35:09good, but it's not as good. There's not those big playmakers
- 35:13that you had a few years ago. So there's there's going to.
- 35:16Have to be a little bit of adjustment.
- 35:17Some of these guys are going to have to learn, you know, they
- 35:20have to learn math, Patricia's system, they got to get
- 35:22chemistry and and it's hard to replicate those quality of
- 35:26players that they lost. Now Texas on the other hand, it
- 35:29was one of those at at first it looked like Texas was going to
- 35:32be Texas. Like man, it's it's big lights.
- 35:34Texas is going to fall on their face again now.
- 35:39Here's the thing that does make me wonder though, because we've
- 35:42seen this before. I want to take you back to I.
- 35:46Believe it was 2023. It was the last year Texas was
- 35:49in the Big 12. They go to Alabama because this
- 35:54is when they have the. The cross series game with them.
- 35:59First year Alabama comes to Texas, couple controversial
- 36:02calls, Nick Saban's there. They come to Austin the
- 36:06quarterback when Euers ends up getting hurt, but they are like
- 36:10this close to squeaking out a win against Bama, albeit in
- 36:16controversial fashion. On the Bama side, Texas.
- 36:19Was real close to winning so they get the win over Texas.
- 36:22Kind of ends up as a bad season for him.
- 36:25The next year, Texas goes to Tuscaloosa.
- 36:29They get the big. Win they hand, they hand
- 36:32Alabama, you know, BTA and then they lose to Kansas State
- 36:37because they get a little bit cocky.
- 36:40I do wonder if Texas doesn't fall victim to themselves doing
- 36:45that again. And here's the reason why I say
- 36:47that you beat at the time the number one team in the country.
- 36:52You beat Ohio State, you know the the team that has been your
- 36:55boogeyman the last few years. They stopped you from being able
- 36:58to go to a national. Championship they, you know,
- 37:01beat you to start the season. Last year kind of derailed
- 37:04things, especially considering, you know, Arch was supposed to
- 37:07be like the Heisman favorite. Texas was supposed to go to the
- 37:10national championship. They were ranked #1 Ohio State,
- 37:13you know, they disrupt all of that last year.
- 37:19So now you get the big win in pretty convincing.
- 37:22Comeback fashion. But here's where I would say I'm
- 37:27a little worried. When I sit here and look at
- 37:29their schedule, obviously they have UTSA this week.
- 37:32That should be fine. Then the true gauntlet begins.
- 37:36You go to Tennessee. That's going to be a really
- 37:39solid game. Then of course you have Red
- 37:41River shortly after that, no matter how good or how bad.
- 37:45Oklahoma is. We've seen Oklahoma dominate.
- 37:48We've seen Texas dominate. It's completely up in the air.
- 37:52You have potential for a little bit of a revenge game because
- 37:54you host Florida, then you host Old Miss, then you host
- 37:58Mississippi State. Last year Mississippi State gave
- 38:01Texas a huge run for their money.
- 38:02If I remember right they took them to almost overtime then.
- 38:06You go to Mizzou, then you go to LSU.
- 38:09That's more than likely going to be a night game.
- 38:10It's going to be a little chilly.
- 38:12Then you host Arkansas and then you finish the year going to
- 38:15Texas A&M. Who is also going to be a tough
- 38:17opponent who you beat last year? You were their.
- 38:20Only loss up until Miami in the play offs so.
- 38:25There's a lot of room for Texas. To trip up, that's the only
- 38:29thing I would say. I would be worried if I'm a
- 38:32Texas fan watching Texas knowing how Texas.
- 38:35Acts. Is are they going to get
- 38:39basically too cocky and is that going to ultimately end up
- 38:42coming back to bite? Them in the butt because they're
- 38:44like, Oh well, we beat Ohio State, we're the best team in
- 38:46the country. You did beat Ohio State.
- 38:49Hats off to you. Congratulations.
- 38:51Just. Don't just don't come into every
- 38:54game thinking, oh, we're going to win every game now.
- 38:58Any given Saturday. We saw it this week with
- 39:00Oklahoma and Oregon. Both got upset by teams that I
- 39:05didn't. Have Oklahoma State winning.
- 39:06I didn't have Michigan winning. There's only a small handful of
- 39:08people had either one of those teams winning and they were
- 39:10either, and most of them were fans or alumni of those schools.
- 39:13So just keep in mind Texas. Anything can happen.
- 39:19But let's move away from college football just temporarily and
- 39:23move into the NFL. Man, we had some wild NFL games
- 39:28and hopefully I'm going to have a new guest.
- 39:30Come on, I got to. I got to.
- 39:31Coordinate with him, coordinate a good time for a show and what
- 39:34not he is. Actually, an old teacher of
- 39:38mine, he and I used to love talking sports my freshman year
- 39:42of high school. And then he.
- 39:44Ultimately end up getting AI believe he's a principal out in
- 39:46California now so really proud of him.
- 39:48Really happy for that. He's a massive Colts fan and I'm
- 39:54sure he was not happy about how this ultimately ended up.
- 39:57As far as the Ravens at the Colts, this was one when I first
- 40:01watched it and I watched the first drive.
- 40:02I'm like OK, like Colts are moving down the field they they
- 40:06end up running in with Jonathan Taylor.
- 40:08He has a pretty decent day. 19 carries, just under 100 yards, 2
- 40:12touchdowns. Nothing compared to what
- 40:16Baltimore was able to do like Baltimore was.
- 40:19Crazy ran for over 200 yards. Lamar passed for over 300 yards,
- 40:24Zay Flowers 5 receptions, 150 yards and a touchdown.
- 40:28You know Derrick Henry had three rushing touchdowns to boot on 24
- 40:32carries. Like it was crazy how well
- 40:36Baltimore. Did and it it?
- 40:39It's interesting to see how this new Baltimore era looks post
- 40:42horrible. But kind of same old Indy, like
- 40:46they they've, they really made Daniel Jones struggle.
- 40:49They stopped the run, so they forced Daniel Jones to have.
- 40:52To, you know, rely a little. Bit more on the passing game and
- 40:55I think. By the looks of how they were
- 40:57playing, they didn't want to keep that narrative from last
- 41:01year. Like, Oh well, if we could stop
- 41:02Taylor, we're going to force Daniel.
- 41:04Jones to pass. It's, it feels like they're
- 41:06trying to kind of mix that up. And it was like one of the first
- 41:09things Daniel Jones does. There was an interception.
- 41:11I'm like, ah, there's the, there's the Danny Dimes.
- 41:14I remember watching for all those years in the NFC East.
- 41:17He's back. It's it's kind of a sad time.
- 41:22Honestly, like even living here in Indy, being in Indy, kind of
- 41:25developing a little bit of love for the Colts, it's like, man,
- 41:27can y'all just get the quarterback right?
- 41:31And, and kind of here's my other question.
- 41:32And Mike, if you're listening, Mike is, is who I work with and
- 41:37he's he's a Colts fan. He, I know he's frustrated.
- 41:41I know he's, he's got to be beyond frustrated.
- 41:44He, he's kind of brought this up.
- 41:46He's like, you know why? Why don't you start?
- 41:49Richardson. He's like, why don't you start
- 41:50Richardson? He goes 1.
- 41:52You spin a first round pick on A2.
- 41:54If he's going to be bad, it does two things.
- 41:57One, you can sit here and say, hey, we spent like a third round
- 42:00pick on. We spent a number three overall
- 42:02pick on Richardson. We gave him a year to gave him a
- 42:05year to start. He got hurt like 3 games in.
- 42:08We gave him the second year he came in.
- 42:10Now obviously he had the issue as far as him saying.
- 42:13He's tired. He tapped out.
- 42:15Not a great look, but it happened.
- 42:18And then ever since then, his relationship has kind of gone
- 42:20down. He demanded a trade.
- 42:22I don't think he got the trade value.
- 42:24And I don't think he got the interest from teams that he
- 42:26probably wanted. Ultimately, he is still in the
- 42:30roster. I believe he's the backup
- 42:32quarterback now if I remember correctly, so he he has a chance
- 42:37to still improve himself and prove his draft stock.
- 42:40Mike brought up a good point though.
- 42:41He's like just starting. He goes.
- 42:42You can say you gave him another shot, just another chance to
- 42:45start. Maybe it builds A straft stock,
- 42:47maybe it doesn't. Maybe it hurts his career, maybe
- 42:49it helps it 'cause. It's like, hey, he, you know, he
- 42:51came. Through the university he came
- 42:53back. Maybe he balls out, maybe he
- 42:54doesn't 1 you can at least say you did and two if he is that
- 42:58bad then you. Then you've done poorly enough
- 43:02to set yourself up for at least a top 10 to a top five pick.
- 43:05Maybe you can get that young generational franchise
- 43:09quarterback that you've? Been missing post Andrew Luck
- 43:12and I don't necessarily disagree because to me the.
- 43:16Colts are one of those teams. They almost always have just
- 43:19enough talent, their defense is always just good enough and
- 43:21their offense is about middle of the pack.
- 43:24They're probably going to be sitting there about 15 to 20,
- 43:27not going to be making the playoffs, but not going to be
- 43:30having a top ten pick. Coulter going to be right smack
- 43:32dab in the middle. And it's like.
- 43:34OK, well what do we do from here?
- 43:36Like yeah, you can get a. First round quarterback, maybe
- 43:38that's going to be a little bit of a reach if you do that.
- 43:41So I I don't necessarily disagree with Mike, I think.
- 43:46I'm not going to say tank, I'm not going.
- 43:48To say, try to lose every game. But.
- 43:50At the same. Time Like, do you really think
- 43:53you're going to be able to do it with Daniel Jones?
- 43:55Do you really think with this roster of what you have Jonathan
- 43:59Taylor coming into his prime with a defense that is solid,
- 44:02but they're getting old? Like, I didn't realize DE Forest
- 44:04Buckner was already in his 30s. I'm like.
- 44:07Dang, like. I feel like he just got there
- 44:08and he's still pretty. Young, but you know Dang.
- 44:13And they've lost a lot of key pieces in the secondary and
- 44:15whatnot. Now, obviously they've added
- 44:17Sauce Gardner, but I believe they lost rakiasin.
- 44:21They lost a few guys. So it's like, man, you're kind
- 44:23of wasting what good talent you've got with a lot of just.
- 44:27Mediocre offense and then your defense has to try to come in
- 44:30and play clean up and eventually they get tired.
- 44:33Like there's only so much you can do and the defense will
- 44:35absolutely get worn down so. Definitely a bit of a
- 44:39disappointment. I did pick the Ravens to win
- 44:42just because. Again, I I don't trust Daniel
- 44:44Jones. I didn't trust any Dimes last
- 44:46year and ultimately end up getting it.
- 44:49Ended up getting proven that if you stop the run you got to
- 44:51force him to throw he's. Same old Danny Dimes, another
- 44:56game that was a. Huge surprise.
- 44:58That makes me really worried for my other MM Hughes, the shy kid
- 45:04who comes on with me. He and I both being a fan of Dub
- 45:07bears and having love in our heart for dub bears.
- 45:11They drop almost 60 on the Panthers, but they give up
- 45:15almost 40 and this is one of those when I.
- 45:18Looked at it like Ben Johnson is absolutely committed to running
- 45:22the ball and and it it's funny when now that I look at it and I
- 45:25watch it and not to say that Gibbs.
- 45:28And Montgomery are the same as Swift and the nun guy, but it
- 45:33does seem like he kind. Of has that.
- 45:35You know that 1-2 punch between the both of them?
- 45:38It feels like Swift is. Swift can be a little bit more
- 45:42of like the shifty power runner guy, but so can the nun guy.
- 45:44It feels like they can do a little bit of both, just
- 45:46depending on what the situation is.
- 45:48And then, of course, Caleb. Was also able to do it with his
- 45:50legs. In between all three of them,
- 45:53they they almost all three ran for 100 yards.
- 45:56Just by themselves and just put up absolutely crazy types of
- 46:01scores. So I offensively I'm like I.
- 46:06That's great. Defensively, I need the defense.
- 46:09To realize that they are paid to play defense, that's that's
- 46:13what. I mean, like, I, I know they
- 46:16drafted Feneman. They've already had injuries.
- 46:18Kobe Bryant's out, Feneman's having to step in.
- 46:21They released a whole lot of the guys that they.
- 46:23Had last year on defense such as Tremaine, Edmonds.
- 46:26All of them. My.
- 46:28Stupid bears. Hey, don't talk about my bears
- 46:31like that. Bears.
- 46:35But yeah, I, it was funny when I was talking to my my other Co
- 46:39worker about this, it's like really, man, I was like, we can
- 46:41drop almost 60s but we don't play defense.
- 46:43He goes. Yeah, man, who needs, who needs
- 46:45defense when you can score 60 points like we just got to score
- 46:48more than they do. Yeah, the Bengals have been
- 46:50trying that for years now, and that has not worked out well for
- 46:52them. And I don't think it's going to
- 46:53work out well for the Bears either.
- 46:56Now, again, same thing. This is Week 1.
- 46:58And, and I say this for college football, say for the NFL, Week
- 47:011 is one of the hardest to prepare for.
- 47:03You don't know what new schemes are going to look like, You
- 47:05don't know how new players are going to fit in both free
- 47:07agency, draft, etcetera. New coordinators, new systems,
- 47:11all of that. So it it's it's always a new.
- 47:13Year, even if you bring all of that.
- 47:14Back and you got the same continuity.
- 47:16It it's a. Different year.
- 47:18These guys are going to probably be a little cocky, they're going
- 47:20to have a little bit of, you know, a little bit of arrogance
- 47:24come through and whatnot. So.
- 47:26It it's not the end of the world, I'm not losing my, you
- 47:28know, my mind. Over it.
- 47:29But it does believe, believe me, a little bit worried.
- 47:32It does also make me wonder how Bryce Young's career is going to
- 47:35pan out 'cause this is a loss. But I mean, they dropped almost
- 47:3940 points like he played about. As well as you.
- 47:41Can expect your quarterback to play post benching and whatnot
- 47:45so. It's it'll be a wild year for
- 47:47the NFC South enjoy. I honestly after how they played
- 47:51against the lions, your Saints might have a shot now they do
- 47:54unfortunately have to I believe take on the Ravens coming up.
- 47:58But I mean, they, they have a shot.
- 48:00I mean, the NFC South is basically wide open to a ton of
- 48:04Viola's hurt. Michael Phoenix Junior's hurt.
- 48:06Cooper Rush is apparently hurt. Like Oh my God, how?
- 48:09How do these? Falcons quarterbacks just keep
- 48:11getting hurt constantly. The Saints honestly looked
- 48:15better than what I expected them to.
- 48:17I think Kellen wore their being for a second year with Tyler
- 48:20Shuck. A lot of that continuity has
- 48:22helped them quite a bit. And in Tampa Bay, it's.
- 48:25Tampa Bay's still going to be there.
- 48:27Baker got paid. They do have some young
- 48:30receivers in Ibuka and whatnot. The Panthers do have an awesome
- 48:35logo and I do like the Panthers color scheme.
- 48:37I kind of like that light blue black.
- 48:39I do wish they would update their uniforms a little bit.
- 48:41Kind of do like a Black Panther theme.
- 48:44And like do kind of primarily all black and then maybe have?
- 48:46Some like Blue Street, like Blue.
- 48:49Kind of like highlights where it's like they just.
- 48:51Fade in and you see a. Little bit of blue whenever the
- 48:53light hits it correctly. I feel like that'd be bad ass.
- 48:58But this is also. Coming from a colour blind guy
- 49:01portal. Eights.
- 49:04But but nonetheless though this this ended up.
- 49:06Actually being a better game than what I thought this game
- 49:09though was probably to me the the steal game of the weekend as
- 49:14far as. You got a little bit of
- 49:16everything. You had two quality teams,
- 49:20knockout punches, blow for blow on each other.
- 49:22With the Bills and the Texans, the Bills finally get a win in
- 49:26Houston for the first time. I think they said in 20 years,
- 49:31sorry I have to sneeze and I hope I don't sneeze while I'm on
- 49:33here, but I feel it. You know, I feel I look weird on
- 49:36cameras. I'm trying to sneeze but I
- 49:38can't. And this is one it it seems like
- 49:43and it was. Brought up earlier on First
- 49:45things first and I liked the take that they gave on It feels
- 49:49like Josh Allen is playing. Completely loose, like he's not
- 49:54being restricted, he's not being held back.
- 49:56And obviously Joe Brady I think is still helping call the plays.
- 50:01I don't think that has changed. I don't.
- 50:02Think his offense the. System has changed at all, but
- 50:06it does make you wonder, was Sean McDermott at the helm?
- 50:08How much did he limit Josh Allen?
- 50:10Because now it seems like Josh Allen kind of has this honey
- 50:12badger, like I don't give AF kind of mentality and attitude
- 50:17and he's just going to go for it and do it.
- 50:20And one of the plays that he did.
- 50:22The first time he ends up, you know, incomplete pass, but then
- 50:25they do the exact same play again.
- 50:26They ultimately end up getting the touchdown that wins the
- 50:28game. So it it will be interesting to
- 50:32see how this looks. It looks like his connection
- 50:34with DJ Moore is already solid, which he's needed.
- 50:36I mean the the thing I wonder and the thing that again makes.
- 50:40Me worried just because how we've seen history repeat itself
- 50:44when he had a solid receiver like Stephon Diggs.
- 50:47The Bills were dangerous and they just kept going and kept
- 50:50going. Kind of the same as anything,
- 50:52eventually teams kind of learn tendencies, they learn
- 50:54chemistry, they get used to it. Maybe he gets double teamed,
- 50:58maybe he gets double cover, maybe he doesn't.
- 51:00This is kind of the chance for Shakur as well as, you know,
- 51:03Keon Coleman to really step up and make those plays as well as.
- 51:08Kincaid and knocks it tight in but it'll but I.
- 51:12I mean, they look great with DJ Moore, but can they sustain that
- 51:16now on the other side for the Texans?
- 51:18I feel like CJ Stroud is. About as well as you can do and
- 51:21as well as you can ask. How he now?
- 51:22Obviously towards the end of the play, they had a chance to, you
- 51:25know, go down there, potentially get the game-winning touchdown.
- 51:28He ends up getting the ball knocked out of his hands in kind
- 51:30of a crazy fashion. It was a fumble and the Bills
- 51:32recovered it to win it. But I I do hope and think that
- 51:36he's going to be able to bounce back.
- 51:38I don't know what it. Is I don't.
- 51:40Know I don't. I'm not.
- 51:41Going to say he's cursed. But it does.
- 51:43Seem like there's some type of a funk?
- 51:45There like ever since his rookie season where he did absolutely
- 51:49great, it's like teams have just figured him out and solved him
- 51:53and just keeps making his life absolutely miserable.
- 51:55And I'm like, what in the world? But we'll ultimately see how it
- 52:00ends up being. But this was a great game
- 52:02overall. I can't.
- 52:02I couldn't be upset at this game even if I tried.
- 52:06The game that I was happy. That they lost but I was mad
- 52:12because it cost me. A pick and potentially being
- 52:15right when I made the pick the Packers go to go to the Vikings,
- 52:20Murray gets hurt with a concussion is.
- 52:22Kind of a dirty hit, but then Carson Wentz comes in.
- 52:26Ultimately saves the day for Minnesota after they were down
- 52:29pretty big. Makes the comeback.
- 52:31Win 39 to 22. And it was kind of funny when I
- 52:35talked about this in the offseason with a few people.
- 52:38I got a lot of weird looks. When I was like, man, you know,
- 52:40I think. Carson Wentz should be kind of
- 52:42considered for this right now. We're not worried about Carson
- 52:44Wentz. I'm like.
- 52:46Oh man, he played really well for him last year and then he
- 52:48got hurt. It's the same system.
- 52:50It's still Kevin O'Connell. It's still the same guys like
- 52:53he. He balled out like I, I.
- 52:55Really think they need to be. Kind of considering giving him
- 52:58the option. And of course it was between
- 53:01Kyler and it's between JJI. Don't even think Wentz was in
- 53:04the consideration, which I'm like, you know, to to each their
- 53:07own. I watched Lintz for many years
- 53:10when he's in Philly. I watched him here for the year
- 53:11he was in Indy. I thought he did great for Indy,
- 53:14honestly. And then they ultimately end up
- 53:17training away. I'm like, I mean, OK again, not
- 53:21what? I would do, but I didn't think
- 53:23he was that bad. But no, I mean, I think I think
- 53:27he's great. I think he's learned a lot.
- 53:29I think he learned a lot going to Kansas City under Andy Reid,
- 53:33under Mahomes. Then he comes there to
- 53:34Minnesota, filled in great form last year, filled in great
- 53:37again. Will it maybe lead to him
- 53:40getting another shot somewhere? I I think it's possible now the
- 53:44biggest factor he has against him is he's old.
- 53:47But I mean, he led him to a victory.
- 53:48And I mean, I still think the Vikings are going to be a pretty
- 53:50good, pretty good, you know, stages because I mean, Marie,
- 53:54the first play he throws an interception, but.
- 53:59And they're better than better than when they had, you know, 9
- 54:02in McCarthy like, you know, Mike Hughes and I said they were
- 54:05going to be. And then of course, the one last
- 54:08night that was probably the biggest, biggest and.
- 54:13A little bit of AI would say disappointing game was the
- 54:16Chiefs and the Broncos. This one, I say disappointment
- 54:20because I I expected it to be closer.
- 54:22I expected it to be better. The Holmes coming back from an
- 54:25injury, what was I was going to look like?
- 54:26Bo Nicks coming back from an injury, what was that going to
- 54:28look like? It looked like the play calling
- 54:30for Denver was a little off offensively and the defensively
- 54:33it was like Denver could make a tackle to save their life.
- 54:36I don't know what happened with that.
- 54:37I don't know why that was ultimately the case, but that
- 54:39that's just what it looked like as a whole.
- 54:43But I I think the Chiefs may be back.
- 54:44As far as being able to run the table now again, that's week
- 54:49one. Whole 16 more games that they
- 54:51got to play, plus the playoffs. So I'm not going to, you know.
- 54:55Sit here and say it's it's theirs to lose at this point,
- 54:57but. Now that they have a.
- 54:59Legitimate rusher and Kenneth Walker and then even the rookie
- 55:02and Emmett Johnson. I mean, and it looks like Travis
- 55:04Kelsey, if this is going to be his last year, he had a great,
- 55:08he had a great first game. I don't know.
- 55:10If he's going to be as big of a downfield.
- 55:12Threat as he once was but I mean short yardage and whatnot I feel
- 55:15like he's going to be kind of more of a traditional tight end
- 55:18like he's got good hands he's going to be there for Mahomes
- 55:20kind of get those quick little short first downs and.
- 55:22He'll. They'll make it happen.
- 55:25But yeah, I mean this, this is a little bit of a disappointment.
- 55:30And we'll have to see what Denver ultimately looks like as
- 55:32the year goes on. We'll go.
- 55:34Back. To college football, though,
- 55:36because there are going to be a few kind of big games.
- 55:39There's one in particular that I know.
- 55:42Joy and I are both going to be watching.
- 55:43And if anybody who follows college football probably knows
- 55:48we may all be watching. There are a few, though, that I
- 55:51wanted to highlight as far as being bigger games that I think
- 55:54are going to be of interesting note.
- 55:56Kentucky at Texas A&M. How does Kentucky respond?
- 55:59It's going to be a road trip game there.
- 56:01Kyle Field, Texas A&M looked great against Arizona State last
- 56:05week. I mean, it was one of those
- 56:07Arizona State I, I felt like kind of had them on the ropes.
- 56:10And then Texas A and Ms. defense ultimately ended up bailing them
- 56:12out. Now they got a pick.
- 56:14They got a fumble return for a touchdown, which ultimately
- 56:18ended up letting them pull away. But I mean for a.
- 56:21While there, Arizona State was keeping it close and was like,
- 56:23oh man, this, this might be a little bit of a dogfight.
- 56:25I don't know about. I don't know about Texas.
- 56:27A&M right now, but they ultimately end up pulled away.
- 56:30Kentucky rebound post Alabama because again, they look great
- 56:34in the first half if they can play 4 full quarters of what
- 56:37they did in the first half against Alabama.
- 56:40This will be an ugly game now. I don't know if they can
- 56:42replicate that and I don't know if they can sustain.
- 56:44That for four quarters. But ultimately, overall, I think
- 56:47I think they look really good. I'm taking TAMU in this one but
- 56:50but I do want to see how this game ultimately ends up going.
- 56:54Yeah, the game where we might see Norvells last as the head
- 56:58coach of the Florida State Seminoles.
- 56:59Now, it's not guaranteed. I just think the likelihood is,
- 57:03is very, very strong. Florida State travels to to
- 57:06Tuscaloosa to take on #10 Alabama, Alabama.
- 57:10They struggled against Kentucky in the first half.
- 57:12Like I said, Kentucky was on fire that first half, but then
- 57:15after? That it was like.
- 57:16OK, they were running the ball well.
- 57:18Keylon Russell looked a little bit more comfortable.
- 57:21I still have a little bit of question marks on Keylon.
- 57:23Now I know it's his second game. Starting and he's going to have
- 57:26kind of an up and down season a little bit.
- 57:28You know, they're just kind of getting into their own, feeling
- 57:30their own system and whatnot. So I have a little bit of
- 57:33questions, but I'm not completely unfortunately
- 57:36counting the tide out yet. Like I said, I think this might
- 57:39be Mike Morville's last game as the Florida State head coach
- 57:43will see unless they get some big upset win that might saving,
- 57:47but I highly doubt it. But who knows, maybe some of
- 57:49these. Guys rally and they play for the
- 57:50coach and they get another upset win and they.
- 57:53Shock the world by beating Alabama twice and they even beat
- 57:55Alabama at home. I'm going to pick Alabama to win
- 57:58currently at the moment, but never know.
- 58:00We'll see. One that I did mention if you
- 58:04watched the show before I mentioned this actually when I
- 58:08was going. Through some of the breakdowns
- 58:09as far as. Like some of the top 25 who I
- 58:13think is going to win, who I think is going to face, who in
- 58:15the championships and whatnot, these two teams is.
- 58:18Who? I think.
- 58:19Most everybody else has playing for the ACC against Miami.
- 58:23I think everybody has Miami just as the runoff favorite.
- 58:26To at least be in the ACC Championship and then one of
- 58:29these two teams I think is going to be the one to face them
- 58:32because being Louisville, they had the tough test against Ole
- 58:34Miss. I mean kind of same thing.
- 58:37That first half was just ugly. The second.
- 58:39Half they were, they were fighting tooth and nail and they
- 58:41competed really well against them.
- 58:43SNUI have a little bit more questions on just because of how
- 58:48they played Florida State now ultimately, I think they faced
- 58:51UC Davis at home. They got a dominant.
- 58:54Win there, wasn't really worried about that, but kind of
- 58:57struggling against Florida State.
- 58:59I'm not saying that makes me makes me leery because I don't
- 59:02want to, you know, completely down Florida State, but it does
- 59:05make me a little bit uncomfortable cause like, how
- 59:08are you struggling against Florida State?
- 59:10The same thing. It was the first game of the
- 59:11season for SNU. Having to knock some of the rest
- 59:14off getting getting into the groove of things.
- 59:16Obviously they had the weirdness as far as.
- 59:19Not having the coaching calls and the helmets.
- 59:20They had to go by signals for the first little bit and then
- 59:22they finally got it back. But that offense really
- 59:25struggled, and I don't know if it's just because everything was
- 59:27thrown off at the beginning of the game, so that just kind of
- 59:29followed through for the rest of it.
- 59:31But it does make. Me wonder.
- 59:33It makes me a little bit worried.
- 59:36I think I picked. Louisville.
- 59:38In this to win just because of how well they did.
- 59:41I think I picked Louisville in this.
- 59:42I'll have to go back. And check, but I think I picked
- 59:44Louisville. And then of course, the last
- 59:46game, the biggest one for this weekend, the Lane Train returns
- 59:51to Oxford to take on Old miss #7 LSU at #8 Old Miss.
- 59:58This is 1 when I'm sitting here and I was making my picks for
- 1:00:01this. I picked LSU to win just 'cause
- 1:00:04I'm going to be, I'm going to be a biased.
- 1:00:06Homer in this one. I'll fully admit that I will be
- 1:00:08a biased Homer. When I watched the Louisville
- 1:00:11game it and again at least in the 1st.
- 1:00:15Half that offense was really struggling.
- 1:00:20Now again they made adjustments in the second-half.
- 1:00:22Trinidad Chambliss did great now.
- 1:00:23Kiwan Lacy was out. He got hurt that game.
- 1:00:27I don't know how well they did against Charlotte as far as like
- 1:00:30running the ball and whatnot. I could probably look at that
- 1:00:32real quick while I'm. While I'm still on the air, but
- 1:00:37it it does make me wonder, what does their offense look like?
- 1:00:47And it's, it's ESPNI thought somebody could join the show.
- 1:00:51I was like, oh. My God, who's that?
- 1:00:55So against Charlotte, Ole Miss 141 to 9 Trinidad Chambliss 2326
- 1:01:01two 25, two touchdowns. OK, so K1 Lacey did come.
- 1:01:04Back. 13 carries, 2 touchdowns, 87 yards so.
- 1:01:09It's not like I expected them to have, you know, a crazy time
- 1:01:14like beating Charlotte. It's not like I expect anything
- 1:01:16crazy. Like we can be.
- 1:01:18We can be realistic about it. But it but it does make me.
- 1:01:23Wonder and against against Louisville looking at the stats,
- 1:01:28Chambliss, who's 21 to 36, three touchdowns a pick 336 passing
- 1:01:32yards key 1 Lacy 17 carries, 61 yards and a touchdown so.
- 1:01:38Louisville's defense really, really held them in check.
- 1:01:40Now, the benefit LSU does have a really good run defense.
- 1:01:44Like LSU's run defense has probably been one of the the.
- 1:01:47Best things about this defense so far this year has been their
- 1:01:51ability to stop the run. Now stop of the pass, a little
- 1:01:55bit more of a question mark. And again, I I said at the
- 1:01:58beginning of the show to start it as far as how they faced off
- 1:02:01against the Louisiana Tech. And I'll say it again, it's a
- 1:02:02little this I am worried about how Sam Levitt throws the ball.
- 1:02:07He does not protect the ball a lot.
- 1:02:08He puts it in harm's way as far as trying to force throws.
- 1:02:13You know, obviously there's a couple deep shots that he took
- 1:02:15against Louisiana Tech. Some of it it was just off
- 1:02:18chemistry. With the wide receivers, one of
- 1:02:19them was Philip Wright. He he just completely dropped
- 1:02:23it. And of course, he had to make
- 1:02:24one of Watkins that ultimately end up letting him pull away a
- 1:02:27little bit. But between him throwing.
- 1:02:32And then the thing that is his biggest.
- 1:02:34Strength is also what makes me worry him running the ball and
- 1:02:37it it's not because I don't like the dynasticity.
- 1:02:39I love it. He's dynamic.
- 1:02:40I love how he what he does. I love it, I think.
- 1:02:43It's great. You're not going to be able to
- 1:02:44do that for a full SEC schedule. You're especially not going to
- 1:02:47be able to do that in this game. Where Ole Miss is, absolutely.
- 1:02:52Coming out for blood, like they are coming out to make a
- 1:02:54statement against Lane. They want to come out to, you
- 1:02:58know, ultimately embarrass Lane and make him regret leaving.
- 1:03:02Oxford to go to LSU so. This is 1 when I'm sitting here
- 1:03:07looking. At it, I'm like, y'all are
- 1:03:09really going to have to really have to fight hard.
- 1:03:14And Sam's going to have to play a clean game like it's.
- 1:03:16Just that's just going to have. To be what it is.
- 1:03:19I do hope that now that it's here this week.
- 1:03:24That maybe some of that focus was more on Ole Miss during the
- 1:03:28Louisiana Tech game. So maybe this game is going to
- 1:03:30be a little bit cleaner, maybe we see a little bit more of.
- 1:03:32What we saw against Clemson, 'cause it sometimes happens,
- 1:03:36too, it's like, you know, we've seen teams struggle because
- 1:03:39they're focused on next week's games.
- 1:03:41To the current game they have in front of them because this, this
- 1:03:44opponent doesn't really matter. And that's possible.
- 1:03:47That happens a lot. I'm hoping that doesn't happen
- 1:03:49here. Like I said, I'm picking old,
- 1:03:51I'm picking LSU. This is a biased Homer.
- 1:03:55I wouldn't be surprised if Ole Miss is able to take away the
- 1:03:58win, though. I think currently in this in
- 1:04:02this game. They have, I think they have LSU
- 1:04:06favored. So according to ESPN and
- 1:04:11DraftKings, DraftKings. OK, so DraftKings has the
- 1:04:16spread, they have LSU favored by three by field goal, and ESP NS
- 1:04:21matchup predictor has LSU winning by a 65% margin which is
- 1:04:26kind of crazy. 'Cause that's.
- 1:04:29Not what I would expect expect to happen, but nonetheless,
- 1:04:34though I'm excited for this game, I want to see how it goes
- 1:04:36'cause ultimately, and people may not agree with this, I think
- 1:04:41this is truly going to dictate. How the rest of the season ends
- 1:04:45up going for LSU. Play and and a lot of.
- 1:04:47People have said that as far as how they think the season will
- 1:04:50ultimately finish will be what happens with this game, 'cause
- 1:04:54if they. Win that momentum I.
- 1:04:55Think will carry them very far if they lose I it's a weird.
- 1:05:00Combination of I don't know if Lane is going to respond with
- 1:05:04even more anger and just ultimately try to whip
- 1:05:07everybody. Or if it's going to kind of
- 1:05:09throw things into a loop because everybody's going to feel like,
- 1:05:12yeah, we should have beat them. We were trying to beat them for
- 1:05:14him and we just couldn't. So it this.
- 1:05:17I'm. Not going to say this game is
- 1:05:19going to answer all. Questions.
- 1:05:20I'm not going to say it's it is going to be the determining
- 1:05:23factor, but I do think it's a big step in seeing how this
- 1:05:27ultimately ends up finishing for LSU.
- 1:05:29This season. But I appreciate everybody
