0:41
Speaker 1: four to two win.

Speaker 3: Tonight, in the Battle of our First President of the
0:45
Speaker 3: Washington Capitals invade Seattle, Washington, having dropped five of their
0:50
Speaker 3: last six games, for a game that very well could
0:53
Speaker 3: be the last appearance in the Emerald City for the
0:57
Speaker 3: greatest goal scorer in NHL history.
1:00
Speaker 1: Good evening, Ladies.
1:01

1:18
Speaker 3: win column with a.
1:19
Speaker 1: Four to win over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon.
1:24
Speaker 1: Franker Evans, Maddy ben.
1:25
Speaker 3: Here's Berkeley Cat and Jordan Everley all getting in on
1:28
Speaker 3: the goal scoring party. Seattle their second win in their
1:31
Speaker 3: last three games. Right now tied at fifty five points
1:34
Speaker 3: for that second and.
1:35
Speaker 1: Final wildcard spot.
1:37
Speaker 3: At this point in the season, every point is crucial
1:40
Speaker 3: and they needed that win in.
1:41
Speaker 1: A big way.
1:42
Speaker 4: Well, good teams find ways to win, and that's exactly
1:44
Speaker 4: what Seattle had to do Sunday afternoon.
1:46
Speaker 1: After giving up the first goal.
1:48
Speaker 4: Of the game for the ninth time in the last
1:50
Speaker 4: ten games, they battled. They came on late in the game,
1:53
Speaker 4: and really for the first time in three years and
1:56
Speaker 4: the fifth time in franchise history, the Kraken.
1:58
Speaker 1: Pulled off a win.
1:59
Speaker 4: In addition to giving up that first goal, going dash
2:01
Speaker 4: to on the power play differential been.
2:04
Speaker 3: Ears and Caton scoring eighteen seconds apart in that game,
2:09
Speaker 3: as well.
2:09
Speaker 1: Special teams wise, for Seattle. You mentioned it, Seattle.
2:13
Speaker 3: Giving up those two power play goals again, those two
2:16
Speaker 3: goals for the Jersey Devils.
2:18
Speaker 1: In for Seattle. On the other side of that, they've.
2:20
Speaker 3: Given up now four power play goals in their last
2:24
Speaker 3: three games. Their power play they'll have scored in six
2:27
Speaker 3: to the last eleven. So these special teams have been
2:29
Speaker 3: all over the places.
2:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been a really hot January for Seattle in
2:32
Speaker 4: their power play, and that's not been an area of concern.
2:35
Speaker 4: They've been hanging around kind of in that ten to
2:37
Speaker 4: eleven position all January long. It's the penalty kill that's
2:41
Speaker 4: been struggling. It kind of hovered around thirty two for
2:43
Speaker 4: a while bottom of the league, jumped up to thirtieth,
2:46
Speaker 4: and it's kind of been in that area. But that's
2:48
Speaker 4: absolutely an area for opportunity.
2:50
Speaker 1: On the other side of the red line.
2:51
Speaker 3: Like Seattle, the Capitols are also in a bit of
2:55
Speaker 3: a battle for the playoffs in.
2:56
Speaker 1: The Eastern Conference.
2:57
Speaker 3: One four and one of their last six games, there's
3:00
Speaker 3: six points back of that cut line in the East.
3:03
Speaker 3: But for them, Alex Silvechkin, the all time NFL leading
3:07
Speaker 3: goal scorer, at nine hundred and eighteen.
3:10
Speaker 1: He's not gonna tell you when his career is done.
3:13
Speaker 3: I think we're all gonna show up to camp one
3:15
Speaker 3: day in September and he just.
3:16
Speaker 1: Hang on to be there. But this is potentially the
3:19
Speaker 1: last game we could see of al Teveskin here in Seattle.
3:22
Speaker 5: Yeah.
3:22
Speaker 1: Absolutely, you know he's got over sixteen hundred games.
3:25
Speaker 4: He's gonna be forty one years old in September one
3:29
Speaker 4: out in the NHL, that's for sure.
3:32
Speaker 1: So tip of the.
3:33
Speaker 4: Cap for him still getting it done out there. He's
3:35
Speaker 4: absolutely an important part of this team.
3:37
Speaker 3: Alveskin's got three points in his last four games coming
3:39
Speaker 3: in here to tonight Seattle, trying to keep the good
3:42
Speaker 3: times rolling here in his Brandon Montour boblehead night, Game

Speaker 5: Casino and Hotel. Glad you're with us. Mike Betton, again
7:10
Speaker 5: with you, back by the Corse Light, landing in section
7:12
Speaker 5: twenty with the Crack and again playing meaningful hockey as
7:15
Speaker 5: we get right past the sixty or the fifty game
7:18
Speaker 5: mark of this season. Their record twenty three, nineteen and
7:22
Speaker 5: nine to fifty five points. They come in right now
7:25
Speaker 5: tie for the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference
7:28
Speaker 5: entering game five of this six game homestand they face
7:31
Speaker 5: a Capitol's team right now twenty five, twenty one and
7:35
Speaker 5: seven point total at fifty seven, and yet they stand
7:38
Speaker 5: four points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference,
7:42
Speaker 5: says the Krack, and also trying to earn their third
7:45
Speaker 5: win in five tries at home against Washington. Well, as
7:49
Speaker 5: far as I look at present day here, the Kraken
7:51
Speaker 5: are nearly a playoff team through game fifty of eighty two,
7:54
Speaker 5: which accounts right now for sixty percent of their regular season.
7:58
Speaker 5: The month of January certainly has sustaining them with their
8:01
Speaker 5: record as seven to five and one since New Year's Day,
8:03
Speaker 5: and yet in the middle of the schedule they've been
8:05
Speaker 5: also avoiding teams such as Colorado, Tampa, Bay, Carolina, Dallas, Edmonton,
8:11
Speaker 5: and even a red hot Buffalo as well, while they've
8:14
Speaker 5: also got most of their lineup back and healthy. Where
8:17
Speaker 5: the challenge lines, though, is a schedule this month. Of course,
8:21
Speaker 5: they're playing in seventeen games, most in ning Shell history
8:24
Speaker 5: for one month, and also besides that, more than half
8:28
Speaker 5: of it against the Eastern Conference, who's played them tough,
8:30
Speaker 5: certainly ten and seventeen games matter of fact against the
8:34
Speaker 5: East for the Krack and owning right now a seven,
8:36
Speaker 5: eight and seven head to head records. So this evening
8:39
Speaker 5: yet one more test here against the Capitol's team which
8:41
Speaker 5: beat them back in October and are also fighting for
8:44
Speaker 5: their playoff lives as well. The Capitols seven to three
8:47
Speaker 5: and two this year against the Pacific Division, and they
8:50
Speaker 5: have also won five of their last six. Had to
8:53
Speaker 5: head here against the Kraken. So the Crack had tried
8:56
Speaker 5: to you turn that after a game on Sunday afternoon
8:59
Speaker 5: where against New Jersey it was their top center putting
9:03
Speaker 5: on a show in period three Right here.
9:05
Speaker 3: Yester Bratt bar circle, everybody gets it back for theirs.
9:09
Speaker 14: Stops my goodness.
9:17
Speaker 1: Maddy Baniers takes the pass.
9:20
Speaker 3: He goes wide from the left circle to the near
9:23
Speaker 3: side that he flips up.
9:25
Speaker 1: Backhand by Budstrup.
9:27
Speaker 3: The Cracket take a two on lead, twelve fifty six
9:31
Speaker 3: to go.
9:32
Speaker 4: The third Matty Beniers with a big, spileless face as
9:35
Speaker 4: he goes to the bench. It was Jordan Eberley, the
9:37
Speaker 4: captain who feed it to him on his forehead in
9:39
Speaker 4: the slot. He goes forehead backhead right under the.
9:44
Speaker 1: Bar two one cracket.
9:46
Speaker 5: That is something that the top line center does going
9:49
Speaker 5: backhand or on a goal. That was a thing of
9:51
Speaker 5: beauty to helped give the crack At a four to
9:53
Speaker 5: two win over New Jersey and by the way, it
9:55
Speaker 5: was just the beginning the Crack and also scoring twice
9:58
Speaker 5: in eighteen seconds Berkeley Canton following up at the front
10:01
Speaker 5: of the net with this fifth goal on the season,
10:03
Speaker 5: and the Krack and despite being out shot thirteen to
10:06
Speaker 5: five in period three, just found away to win. Jordan
10:09
Speaker 5: neverly got the empty net goal, so it was essentially
10:13
Speaker 5: a must needed to win after going flat for much
10:15
Speaker 5: of the previous game against Santaheim and the Krack and
10:18
Speaker 5: also in that turnaround allowing no goals at five on five,
10:22
Speaker 5: Joey Decor turning in twenty seven saves. Here's Baneir's on
10:26
Speaker 5: the Crack and they're play at five on five where
10:28
Speaker 5: often the team is usually judged for their progress and
10:32
Speaker 5: Beniers likes what he saw back on Sunday.
10:35
Speaker 15: Yeah, I thought we were we were aggressive, you know,
10:37
Speaker 15: even you know, we went down one nothing early in
10:40
Speaker 15: that game. But I thought we stayed on him, you know,
10:42
Speaker 15: throughout sixteen minutes. Honestly, like right right from the get go,
10:45
Speaker 15: we were we were humming guys, feet were moving, guys,
10:47
Speaker 15: You're hitting people, you know, guys were making Chris plays
10:51
Speaker 15: and we carried that through. So I think that's the
10:53
Speaker 15: mentality we need to have. I think we put ourselves
10:56
Speaker 15: in a lot of situations to win games.
10:57
Speaker 5: When we do that, and the Krack and where Beniers
11:01
Speaker 5: goes opten, so goes their team, leading us here into
11:03
Speaker 5: our cracking story lines. Maddy Banier's first and foremost a
11:07
Speaker 5: part of this, and since December twenty second, he leads
11:09
Speaker 5: the Kracking with sixteen points in eighteen games, putting him
11:13
Speaker 5: down type of the team's scoring lead with Jordan Everley
11:16
Speaker 5: at thirty four points. That would also put him on
11:18
Speaker 5: pace to hit just shy of fifty seven points, which
11:22
Speaker 5: was his career high back when he won the Calder
11:24
Speaker 5: Trophy three years ago. This month in January, by the way,
11:27
Speaker 5: has been very fruitful. He's scored eight goals, most in
11:30
Speaker 5: his inn Show career for one month and looking like
11:32
Speaker 5: he'll be back in between Jared McCann and Jordan Everley
11:36
Speaker 5: here for tonight.
11:37
Speaker 1: Ben Heer's has.
11:37
Speaker 5: Brought coaches like Justin Rye in charge of player development
11:41
Speaker 5: and Chris Taylor into the picture here, and Benier's saying
11:44
Speaker 5: his game and growth on the inside, as far as
11:47
Speaker 5: his skill work are a part of hard work from
11:49
Speaker 5: the Crack and staff.
11:50
Speaker 15: I think we work in a lot of passing stuff.
11:52
Speaker 15: We work in a lot of you know, getting pucks
11:54
Speaker 15: off walls, making plays, you know, under pressure quickly kind
11:58
Speaker 15: of like in like in game situations. And then you're
12:01
Speaker 15: away just working on your shot, you're stick handling, You're
12:04
Speaker 15: watching video on different plays you could have made. You know,
12:07
Speaker 15: me and Tales watch a lot of video on you know,
12:09
Speaker 15: post games and what you can do differently in different situations.
12:12
Speaker 15: And once you see it, it's a lot easier to
12:15
Speaker 15: then go out and try it than if you're not
12:17
Speaker 15: seeing it.
12:18
Speaker 5: Second Crack and storyline, special teams and flat out can
12:21
Speaker 5: they win the battle? The cracking coming in eleventh right
12:23
Speaker 5: now for power play wise in the NHL, but trying
12:26
Speaker 5: to get ab an O of six skid last two games,
12:29
Speaker 5: facing a Capitol's penalty kill that has committed the seventh
12:32
Speaker 5: most minor penalties here for this season and have allowed
12:36
Speaker 5: power play goals in four of the last five games.
12:40
Speaker 5: The penalty kill also facing a Capital's power play with
12:43
Speaker 5: seven power play goals in the last eight games. And
12:46
Speaker 5: our third story line Philip Grubauer and Nett facing his
12:49
Speaker 5: former Capitals team for the first time since December ninth
12:53
Speaker 5: of twenty twenty two. Limited exposure, but against the Capitals
12:57
Speaker 5: pretty good three two to one record, nine two or
13:00
Speaker 5: save percentage in six games, and he comes off a
13:02
Speaker 5: twenty seven save effort against Anaheim four days ago. Let's
13:07
Speaker 5: hear more here on the crack inside end. We talked
13:09
Speaker 5: about seventeen games a lot for this month, and here's
13:12
Speaker 5: been hers who knows how to find relief and stability
13:15
Speaker 5: for his game in a month like this.
13:17
Speaker 15: I mean, I'm okay with the rest, I think as
13:19
Speaker 15: there are too so you know, you obviously want to
13:22
Speaker 15: practice and work on things, but that's you know, that's
13:26
Speaker 15: part of it is the balance between trying to practice
13:29
Speaker 15: and work on stuff when you can, but also knowing
13:32
Speaker 15: like when you need your rest and how important that
13:35
Speaker 15: is for for the next game.
13:37
Speaker 5: Lather rents repeat until the Olympic break right. Well, on
13:40
Speaker 5: the other side, are the Washington capitals. Won't take a
13:43
