- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Sarah's Day's
- 0:14Speaker 1: awkward hand injury update, Boof Hair's surprising new ambassador and
- 0:19Speaker 1: Olivia Rogers' shock wedding day revelations. But first, beloved Mavs
- 0:24Speaker 1: couple Martha Kalafatidis and Michael Brunelli have announced they're pregnant
- 0:28Speaker 1: with their second child. The news was met with the
- 0:31Speaker 1: usual fanfare. However, there was an undertone of apprehension, Kate,
- 0:35Speaker 1: in the comments section. Yeah, so among the well-wishers were
- 0:38Speaker 1: a lot of followers praying that Martha had an easier
- 0:41Speaker 1: pregnancy this time around because when she fell pregnant with
- 0:44Speaker 1: her first son, Lucius, she experienced a rare condition called HG.
- 0:48Speaker 1: This completely wiped her out for her whole pregnancy. I
- 0:50Speaker 1: remember she was stuck in bed for months on end.
- 0:53Speaker 1: She said she couldn't eat or drink, and over a
- 0:55Speaker 1: five-week period, she lost 10 kilos. To make matters worse,
- 0:59Speaker 1: the couple were in Europe when the condition first hit.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I remember photos emerged of Martha being wheeled off a plane. Yeah, well,
- 1:05Speaker 1: it's really sad because unfortunately this time around, things have
- 1:09Speaker 1: played out in a similar way. So the caption of
- 1:11Speaker 1: this post did hint that Martha wasn't feeling well. So
- 1:14Speaker 1: alongside a video of her son kissing her pregnant belly,
- 1:17Speaker 1: she wrote, knocked up and knocked out. We'll be back
- 1:20Speaker 1: bigger and better soon, fingers crossed. Unfortunately, Martha was overseas
- 1:25Speaker 1: also again when the HG symptoms kicked in this time around.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So Martha and Michael were on an overseas brand trip
- 1:32Speaker 1: with their son and Martha's parents. And before embarking on
- 1:35Speaker 1: the trip, they knew Martha was pregnant, but they hoped
- 1:37Speaker 1: that she wouldn't experience HG this time around. However, when
- 1:40Speaker 1: they were in Hong Kong, she ended up starting to
- 1:42Speaker 1: feel nauseous. And then when they got to Dubai, she
- 1:45Speaker 1: was bedridden for five days. And it was really tricky
- 1:47Speaker 1: because they were having to shoot all of this content
- 1:50Speaker 1: for this brand trip. And a lot of their followers
- 1:52Speaker 1: were picking up that she wasn't actually in the content.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Michael ended up sharing a photo dump on the weekend explaining, yes,
- 1:58Speaker 1: this is actually where it hit. And a lot of
- 1:59Speaker 1: you picked it up and we actually took this photo.
- 2:02Speaker 1: to try and get people off the scent. Well, it
- 2:04Speaker 1: got so bad that doctors had to come to her
- 2:06Speaker 1: hotel room and give her medication and IV fluids. It
- 2:09Speaker 1: sounds horrendous, particularly happening in such a hot and humid
- 2:11Speaker 1: place like Hong Kong. Yeah, well, they're back home now.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And Michael explained that Martha had to spend a lot
- 2:16Speaker 1: of time in a dark room away from her son,
- 2:19Speaker 1: which was really difficult for both of them. Poor Looch
- 2:22Speaker 1: has apparently been stressing and being very clingy with Michael.
- 2:25Speaker 1: The good news is Martha has been making slow improvements,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but she still is suffering, but it seems to be
- 2:30Speaker 1: getting slightly easier for her. It's just so brave for
- 2:33Speaker 1: her to have a second child with that looming over you,
- 2:36Speaker 1: knowing that that's a potential. I mean, it's hard enough
- 2:40Speaker 1: being pregnant and being a mom without suffering from that
- 2:42Speaker 1: condition beforehand. Oh, I just don't know how she does it.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And I just really hope that she continues to improve
- 2:47Speaker 1: and feel better because I mean, God, how tough would
- 2:50Speaker 1: that be also having a toddler that you're having to
- 2:53Speaker 1: parent as well? I mean, Thank goodness for Martha that
- 2:55Speaker 1: she has the support of Michael and her parents as well.
- 2:58Speaker 1: But she still lives with her parents, doesn't she? Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 1: they all still live together. So I'm sure that would
- 3:03Speaker 1: be a great help. But again, like it's not what
- 3:05Speaker 1: you want to be knocked out in bed for nine months.
- 3:08Speaker 1: All right, it's time to get vulnerable, get deep. I've
- 3:11Speaker 1: got something on my chest, guys. New hair care brand
- 3:14Speaker 1: Boof Hair is making headlines again for executing yet another
- 3:18Speaker 1: clever marketing campaign. This time the team is making a
- 3:21Speaker 1: play for the boys. revealing a new male ambassador, which
- 3:25Speaker 1: is set to make them serious bank. So the brand
- 3:28Speaker 1: attracted attention at the start of the year for teasing
- 3:30Speaker 1: that Indy Clinton had started an office job with them.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And now they've turned their attention to a new ambassador. Yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 1: they have been teasing this ambassador for a while now.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And they made the reveal last week to their 38,000
- 3:43Speaker 1: followers by sharing a reel declaring that Booth is for
- 3:46Speaker 1: the boys too. Now in the video, they poke fun
- 3:49Speaker 1: at Booth's most recent campaign with Indy Clinton. And in
- 3:53Speaker 1: the opening scene, we see the new ambassador from behind
- 3:56Speaker 1: looking into a fridge full of Boof's hair tonics. And
- 3:59Speaker 1: they were wearing the iconic blonde wig that Indy Clinton
- 4:01Speaker 1: copped so much shit for wearing in the first campaign. Yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and before revealing the ambassador's identity, it flashed back and
- 4:08Speaker 1: forth to vision of Indy in the wig and then
- 4:10Speaker 1: the new ambassador. Then the new ambassador flicks their hair
- 4:13Speaker 1: to reveal that it is in fact Jack Steele from
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Inspired Unemployed. Were you surprised when he was unveiled?
- 4:20Speaker 1: I was surprised, but I think it's a stroke of
- 4:23Speaker 1: genius because I am a big fan of the Inspired Unemployed.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I listen to their podcasts. I watch their shows. And
- 4:29Speaker 1: for quite some time, it's been clear that Jack has
- 4:32Speaker 1: struggled with his receding hairline. When I say that, I
- 4:35Speaker 1: actually personally haven't noticed that it's receding myself, but he
- 4:38Speaker 1: gets a lot of shit from Falcon and the other
- 4:40Speaker 1: boys about it. It seems like it's a real insecurity
- 4:43Speaker 1: for him. So as soon as I saw it, I'm like, wow,
- 4:46Speaker 1: that is a really fantastic, genuine collaboration that makes sense.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think it's pretty brave of him to put himself
- 4:52Speaker 1: out there because being a male, I think that it's
- 4:55Speaker 1: a bit of a taboo subject to talk about the
- 4:57Speaker 1: fact that you care about your hair and your appearance,
- 5:00Speaker 1: particularly in the field that he's in. Like he's going
- 5:02Speaker 1: to have a lot of jokes made about him, but
- 5:04Speaker 1: he's almost taking the power back in this situation. But
- 5:07Speaker 1: then I also feel like it's becoming quite popular for men,
- 5:10Speaker 1: particularly on podcasts to talk vulnerably about things. And there'd
- 5:13Speaker 1: be so many of the Inspired Unemployeds audience who were
- 5:17Speaker 1: in their 30s who were also going through the struggles
- 5:20Speaker 1: of hair loss. So I'm interested, is it a completely
- 5:22Speaker 1: new product specifically for men or is it just that
- 5:25Speaker 1: Boof is good for men and women? No, it's actually
- 5:27Speaker 1: a gender neutral product. So it's for anyone with thinning hair.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But obviously they're trying to promote the fact that it
- 5:33Speaker 1: helps men with early baldness as well. I just think
- 5:37Speaker 1: that it's so clever because anything that the Inspired Unemployed
- 5:41Speaker 1: seem to touch turns to gold. You only have to
- 5:43Speaker 1: look at the success of Better Beer, their beer brand,
- 5:45Speaker 1: to see that they can make sales. I had a look.
- 5:47Speaker 1: The brand is now estimated to be worth $ 37 million. Well,
- 5:51Speaker 1: they've got a lot of fingers in pies because Jack
- 5:53Speaker 1: and Falcon also recently launched a travel brand and app. Well,
- 5:57Speaker 1: it kind of makes sense because they had a travel
- 5:59Speaker 1: show where basically instead of ticking things off your bucket
- 6:02Speaker 1: list that you want to do, they were doing all
- 6:04Speaker 1: the things that you wouldn't want to do. So again,
- 6:06Speaker 1: it seems to be good branding there and good crossover.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Now this video announcing Jack as a new ambassador performed
- 6:13Speaker 1: really well on their socials. It attracted 236,000 views and
- 6:18Speaker 1: there were plenty of influencers hitting up the comment section
- 6:21Speaker 1: with Nikki Westcott calling the video iconic and Jack's girlfriend
- 6:25Speaker 1: Eden writing, my girlfriend is so cute. One follower also
- 6:29Speaker 1: declared that this was the collaboration everyone needed. It's so
- 6:32Speaker 1: interesting that Jack is dating Eden because she is a
- 6:36Speaker 1: model that I think a lot of listeners will recognize.
- 6:39Speaker 1: She used to do all the Coco and Lola stuff.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Was she on Cook Eye as well? Yeah, Cook Eye. Literally,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I bought so many items of clothing just because she
- 6:46Speaker 1: modeled it. She's just that stunning. Oh, she is. I
- 6:49Speaker 1: saw this video where I think she put it up
- 6:51Speaker 1: and she said, when you surprise your boyfriend overseas and
- 6:55Speaker 1: She saw Jack was at a supermarket and she just
- 6:57Speaker 1: ran up to him out of nowhere. He had no
- 6:59Speaker 1: idea that she was even in the country. And there
- 7:01Speaker 1: were so many nasty comments saying, oh, it gives all
- 7:03Speaker 1: the ugly guys hope that a hot girl will be
- 7:06Speaker 1: after us and all this sort of stuff. And I'm like,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I think Jack still is hot. Like, I think. I
- 7:11Speaker 1: actually think, I said to Brandon, I don't know if
- 7:12Speaker 1: it's just because they're both really funny and have great personalities.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I think they're both good looking guys. I mean, they're
- 7:17Speaker 1: both good looking guys, but I suppose there might be
- 7:21Speaker 1: a portion of their audience now that are a bit
- 7:23Speaker 1: miffed that they're dating models. They've kind of got that
- 7:25Speaker 1: Hamish and Andy vibe. I mean, Andy went for a
- 7:27Speaker 1: couple of supermodels as well, but he was Clio Bachelor
- 7:29Speaker 1: of the Year for a long time too. Is Megan
- 7:31Speaker 1: Gale a supermodel? Would you consider her a supermodel? Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I don't think she's a supermodel. And that's just one supermodel. Whatever.
- 7:37Speaker 1: He dated attractive women. Now, getting into how Jack broke
- 7:40Speaker 1: the news on his Instagram, he did open up about
- 7:43Speaker 1: his receding hairline in an Instagram story. Let's have a
- 7:46Speaker 1: listen to some of what he said. I'm receding. Yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Probably already know from the podcast or from the billboard
- 7:53Speaker 1: Falcon put up with me in the middle of the city.
- 7:54Speaker 1: That was the size of a frigging truck. Or because
- 7:56Speaker 1: you just come up to me in the middle of
- 7:57Speaker 1: the street or the airport and tell me. So thanks
- 8:00Speaker 1: for that. I've got feelings. No stress. What did I do, though,
- 8:03Speaker 1: to avoid a trip to Turkey? Because apparently you have
- 8:06Speaker 1: to sleep upright for two weeks. And you obviously know
- 8:08Speaker 1: if you listen to the podcast or you just know
- 8:10Speaker 1: right now I sleep shit. And I'm a fucking weirdo
- 8:13Speaker 1: who sleeps. So I have been using this. Jack then
- 8:20Speaker 1: went on to say that he's been using the product
- 8:22Speaker 1: for six weeks and he did a close-up on camera
- 8:25Speaker 1: of how his hair has been thickening up. And he
- 8:28Speaker 1: told all of his forehead-zillas and forehead brothers that there
- 8:32Speaker 1: was no need to worry or stress anymore because the
- 8:34Speaker 1: tonic actually works. They must be paying him a lot
- 8:38Speaker 1: of money because he also followed it up by creating
- 8:41Speaker 1: a comedy skit about the product, which he shared to
- 8:43Speaker 1: his 325,000 followers. And in the video, Jack is having
- 8:47Speaker 1: a massage with his dad and he asks him when
- 8:50Speaker 1: he first started losing his hair. Let's throw to the clip. Yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 1: my early 30s. I just noticed my forehead was getting bigger. Really? Yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 1: within a year, most of it was gone. And the
- 9:02Speaker 1: rain hurt, and the raindrops hit my head. And then
- 9:05Speaker 1: I transformed into Devonhead, and it's just stuck with me
- 9:09Speaker 1: ever since. Yeah, right. How old are you again? Now, Jack,
- 9:13Speaker 1: who recently just turned 30, immediately jumped up from the
- 9:16Speaker 1: massage table and ran to the nearest public phone box
- 9:19Speaker 1: to order the hair tonic. And then in what looks
- 9:22Speaker 1: like a drug deal, he gets the goods and immediately
- 9:25Speaker 1: puts the tonic on his hair. It was a very
- 9:27Speaker 1: clever video. Yeah, it was very funny. In the caption,
- 9:30Speaker 1: he wrote, just want to let you all know that
- 9:32Speaker 1: I have been using this for about six weeks now
- 9:34Speaker 1: and can confirm that it's good shit. I'm really interested
- 9:37Speaker 1: to see how well this product sells and if it
- 9:39Speaker 1: does in fact sell out. I'm quite intrigued to see
- 9:41Speaker 1: how this actually works because I think a lot of
- 9:44Speaker 1: guys would be happy to borrow their girlfriends but might
- 9:47Speaker 1: not actually want to make the commitment to buy their own.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But maybe that's the beauty in it that, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: as a couple, you can share your your hair treatment
- 9:55Speaker 1: in terms of how this ambassador role works bouffet actually
- 9:59Speaker 1: said we welcome him to the family so initially i
- 10:01Speaker 1: was like i wonder if he's also got shares in
- 10:03Speaker 1: this business a bit like indy clinton but i think
- 10:06Speaker 1: that that was just a way of welcoming him i
- 10:09Speaker 1: don't necessarily think that he'd buy into this it's a
- 10:11Speaker 1: very clever way to show that this product is for
- 10:13Speaker 1: more than just postpartum women I almost wrapped up this
- 10:17Speaker 1: vlog without telling you what actually happened to my hand.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Sarah's day has opened up for the first time about
- 10:23Speaker 1: how she injured her hand. The YouTuber was set to
- 10:26Speaker 1: launch her latest fitness program when she sustained a suspected
- 10:29Speaker 1: torn ligament in her thumb. So if many followers feared
- 10:32Speaker 1: this injury was going to jeopardize the launch of her
- 10:35Speaker 1: 560 challenge. Yeah, many people thought maybe it would rule
- 10:38Speaker 1: her out from taking part, which would have been very
- 10:40Speaker 1: detrimental to the launch of this program because I think
- 10:43Speaker 1: a huge selling point is the fact that Sarah is
- 10:46Speaker 1: supposed to be doing the challenge alongside her fans. Yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I think her taking part in the challenge is a
- 10:52Speaker 1: big drawcard, particularly when she shares videos of her doing
- 10:55Speaker 1: the different workouts. And we have spoken about this program before,
- 10:58Speaker 1: but just to refresh listeners' memories, you have to complete
- 11:01Speaker 1: 60 workouts in 60 days. So it's pretty intense. Luckily
- 11:05Speaker 1: for Sarah, she has been able to adapt the program
- 11:08Speaker 1: around her injury. So she has just been swapping some
- 11:10Speaker 1: exercises out for others. Now, this injury took place a
- 11:14Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago, but Sarah has chosen not to
- 11:17Speaker 1: divulge what actually happened until now. And this was very
- 11:21Speaker 1: unlike her because usually she'd be on her stories, giving
- 11:24Speaker 1: her followers a blow by blow. She originally teased her
- 11:27Speaker 1: audience by saying that it happened in an embarrassing way.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I mean, we were hypothesizing a couple of weeks ago.
- 11:33Speaker 1: what that could have been. And I was pretty surprised
- 11:35Speaker 1: when I found out what actually happened. I feel like
- 11:38Speaker 1: you were thinking of sex injury or something. I just
- 11:41Speaker 1: was like, oh, what could be so embarrassing? Well, she's
- 11:44Speaker 1: gone into what actually happened in her recent YouTube video.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And as she always does, she hooked her followers in
- 11:50Speaker 1: by saying she was going to work up the courage
- 11:52Speaker 1: throughout the vlog to explain what actually happened to her hand.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And she said that she hasn't told the story of
- 11:58Speaker 1: how she sustained this injury because She feared it would
- 12:01Speaker 1: be taken out of context and misconstrued. Knowing how the
- 12:05Speaker 1: injury occurred, not to continue to tease, but I can
- 12:08Speaker 1: understand why she was so reluctant to actually share how
- 12:12Speaker 1: it happened. Well, before we actually found out what caused
- 12:15Speaker 1: the injury, we were taken along to her specialist appointment
- 12:18Speaker 1: and she showed a close-up of just how bad the
- 12:21Speaker 1: bruising was. She also said the first two days of
- 12:24Speaker 1: the injury were brutal, but now she's managed to adapt.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And straight after leaving her appointment, she jumped on her
- 12:29Speaker 1: camera to tell her followers that thankfully she doesn't have
- 12:32Speaker 1: to have surgery on it. And it ended up that
- 12:35Speaker 1: the ligament was not detached like she feared. Sarah also
- 12:39Speaker 1: mentioned that the specialist told her that the inside ligament
- 12:42Speaker 1: was torn, but not the outside. I think Sarah really
- 12:46Speaker 1: wanted to make sure her audience knew how painful this
- 12:48Speaker 1: injury was and that she's not like she was faking it. Yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 1: it didn't look fun. Now, it wasn't until the end
- 12:54Speaker 1: of the vlog that we found out what actually happened.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So she was standing alongside Kurt in the kitchen when
- 12:59Speaker 1: she explained that it was a situation of bad timing.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Let's have a listen to some of what she said. Basically,
- 13:06Speaker 1: it was a situation of bad timing. Kurt was annoying
- 13:10Speaker 1: me or like, what were you even doing? I was
- 13:12Speaker 1: laying down in bed and I was like, teasing you
- 13:14Speaker 1: in some way, shape or form. And I went to
- 13:15Speaker 1: be like, stop. And classic Kurt, being a black belt jujitsu,
- 13:19Speaker 1: he blocks everything. Even if I'm like, oh, look at
- 13:22Speaker 1: that house, how nice is that? He blocks everything. All
- 13:24Speaker 1: the time. So anyway, his reflex, his knee blocked my
- 13:29Speaker 1: hand and ripped all the way back. As you came
- 13:32Speaker 1: into like grab at me, I tucked my knees up
- 13:34Speaker 1: to my chest. Why? Why are you doing it like that?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Because that's how you would, that's how you came at me. One,
- 13:38Speaker 1: one hand. I can't remember, but I tucked my knees
- 13:40Speaker 1: up anyway, it's a reflex like, and then you went boom.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And then you went. Yeah, it really hurt, but the
- 13:45Speaker 1: worst part was the sound. It was like cellophane. It
- 13:48Speaker 1: bent all the way back and it was like cellophane crunching.
- 13:52Speaker 1: As soon as it happened, I was like, I knew
- 13:54Speaker 1: I had done something. And then you got angry at
- 13:55Speaker 1: me and said it was my fault. But stop blocking
- 13:58Speaker 1: me all the time. And it's always the same with
- 14:01Speaker 1: this stupid watch. I love having a protective husband, like block, block,
- 14:05Speaker 1: block for the family, but don't block the wife. Okay,
- 14:08Speaker 1: let me just caress you. No. So they were essentially
- 14:13Speaker 1: play fighting in bed. Yes. It sounds like that's what's happened.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Kurt being the jujitsu champion that he seems to be
- 14:19Speaker 1: has blocked her arm. I can see why she held
- 14:22Speaker 1: off from telling this story and was worried it would
- 14:24Speaker 1: be taken out of context because you would really want
- 14:27Speaker 1: to get the description of what happened right. You want
- 14:30Speaker 1: to be concise in telling this story. Yeah, and with
- 14:32Speaker 1: the climate of the internet, particularly TikTok, I think there
- 14:36Speaker 1: is a chance people can run with an unfair, untrue narrative.
- 14:40Speaker 1: And I think that's what would have been playing on
- 14:42Speaker 1: her mind. I'm actually surprised she didn't just come up
- 14:44Speaker 1: with a fake story. But in saying that, people can
- 14:46Speaker 1: genuinely tell through a fake story and then they might
- 14:49Speaker 1: have blown it out of proportion even more when they
- 14:51Speaker 1: found out what actually happened. I think it was good
- 14:53Speaker 1: maybe she gave a bit of space and time to
- 14:55Speaker 1: consider how she was going to explain it. And particularly
- 14:57Speaker 1: also having Kurt on camera when she explained it was
- 15:00Speaker 1: a good move too. Do you play fight with your husband?
- 15:03Speaker 1: I want to know. Well, not like this. Like my
- 15:06Speaker 1: husband doesn't have any martial arts skills. So, I mean,
- 15:09Speaker 1: if we're in the kitchen, sometimes he might like creep
- 15:11Speaker 1: up and grab me from behind or like tickle me
- 15:14Speaker 1: and stuff like that. But I wouldn't say we play
- 15:16Speaker 1: for it. What about you? I can see how something
- 15:18Speaker 1: like this could happen because I feel like sometimes men
- 15:20Speaker 1: like to get silly and like pick you up and
- 15:22Speaker 1: swing you around, that sort of thing. But yeah. Does
- 15:24Speaker 1: Brandon play fight with you? I remember, well, when we
- 15:27Speaker 1: used to have stairs in our house, I feel like
- 15:29Speaker 1: you used to like poke each other's ass or something
- 15:31Speaker 1: if you're going up the stairs, something like that, which
- 15:32Speaker 1: could lead to someone falling down the stairs. Isn't that
- 15:35Speaker 1: just such a universal male thing? If your partner walks
- 15:38Speaker 1: past just to poke them. I would be making Kurt
- 15:40Speaker 1: feel really bad if I was Sarah, particularly because this
- 15:43Speaker 1: has almost derailed her fitness program. Oh, I can imagine
- 15:46Speaker 1: how annoyed she would be because I remember when she
- 15:48Speaker 1: first broke the news about her hand. She was like, oh,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I haven't changed one single nappy. Kurt's been doing everything.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And obviously she was like, you can do everything now.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Did he seem remorseful in the vlog? I think he
- 15:59Speaker 1: felt bad, but I don't think he was particularly remorseful
- 16:02Speaker 1: because it was an accident. She was the only person
- 16:05Speaker 1: who knew just how scared I was that day. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: didn't know if I was doing the right thing. She
- 16:10Speaker 1: didn't think I was doing the right thing. Olivia Rogers
- 16:13Speaker 1: has broken down whilst recounting the moment her mum told
- 16:16Speaker 1: her to call off her wedding to ex-husband Justin McKeon.
- 16:19Speaker 1: The former Miss Universe contestant revealed there was an incident
- 16:22Speaker 1: a few days before the wedding that crossed her boundaries. Soph,
- 16:25Speaker 1: this was an absolutely fascinating interview. I've heard Olivia interviewed
- 16:28Speaker 1: quite a number of times on a podcast, but this
- 16:31Speaker 1: was unlike I'd heard her before. Yeah, she was incredibly
- 16:34Speaker 1: candid in this interview. It took place on the Inherited podcast,
- 16:38Speaker 1: which interestingly is a podcast that's run by her friends.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Michelle Andrews and Zara McDonald but they don't conduct the
- 16:44Speaker 1: interviews they have Ruby Hall there who does a great
- 16:46Speaker 1: job but I wonder if it would have even been
- 16:48Speaker 1: taken that next level if it had been Michelle and
- 16:51Speaker 1: Zara having that friendship there then again I feel like
- 16:54Speaker 1: it was almost good having Ruby who was a bit
- 16:55Speaker 1: of an outsider because I feel like Michelle and Zara
- 16:59Speaker 1: Because they would have already been probably aware of these stories.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You know when it's sometimes awkward when someone's having to
- 17:03Speaker 1: explain something that they've already explained to their friends before?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Or maybe they know too much that they wouldn't provide
- 17:08Speaker 1: the extra context that listeners don't know. I mean, Michelle
- 17:12Speaker 1: and Zara were main characters in one of the biggest
- 17:14Speaker 1: stories that Olivia spoke about, which was the sexual assault
- 17:17Speaker 1: case that she ended up taking to court. Michelle and
- 17:19Speaker 1: Zara were witnesses to that assault. Mm-hmm. And that's why
- 17:23Speaker 1: I think it's good that there was someone who was
- 17:25Speaker 1: a bit removed interviewing her. Now, Olivia was asked when
- 17:28Speaker 1: she started seeing red flags in this relationship. She said
- 17:31Speaker 1: it happened as early as six months in, but she
- 17:34Speaker 1: chose to ignore the signs. And she went on to
- 17:37Speaker 1: describe herself as being a serial girlfriend where she had
- 17:40Speaker 1: a history of dating people who weren't right for her.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It was so interesting hearing her speak about the way
- 17:46Speaker 1: she sees herself because I know previously in interviews, she's
- 17:50Speaker 1: spoken about how she was a bit of a dorky
- 17:52Speaker 1: kid growing up and was really surprised that she was
- 17:55Speaker 1: essentially headhunted for modeling. It is easy to forget that
- 17:59Speaker 1: that was her background. I mean, you look at her now,
- 18:01Speaker 1: she is such a stunning person inside and out. She
- 18:04Speaker 1: comes across as very confident on her social media. So
- 18:07Speaker 1: for someone like her to be saying, oh, I, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I used to date these loser guys because I wasn't
- 18:13Speaker 1: very confident. I think there were so many listeners that
- 18:15Speaker 1: could relate to it. I mean, I could relate to it.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I used to do that in my
- 18:19Speaker 1: twenties as well. Yeah. Well, she said that because she
- 18:21Speaker 1: was such an insecure teenager, it then sort of bled
- 18:24Speaker 1: into her twenties and she essentially dated men for validation. Now,
- 18:28Speaker 1: when she met Justin, she said that she felt like
- 18:31Speaker 1: he had his shit together because he was five years
- 18:34Speaker 1: older than her. And she said it was the first
- 18:36Speaker 1: mature relationship she'd been in and things moved really quickly.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So they moved in together, they got a dog together.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And by the time that those red flags started appearing,
- 18:46Speaker 1: she said she already felt like she had too much
- 18:47Speaker 1: to lose. And she said, maybe to people who don't
- 18:50Speaker 1: own dogs, it would sound ridiculous, but the thought of
- 18:53Speaker 1: her leaving her dog behind was really tough if things,
- 18:56Speaker 1: if they broke up. And I think that's something a
- 18:58Speaker 1: lot of us go through in our twenties where we think, oh,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm so old. I'm 25. I remember you having a
- 19:05Speaker 1: freak out when we turned 25. There's no way I
- 19:08Speaker 1: could find someone else. And get into a new relationship
- 19:11Speaker 1: and have to go through all of this again. I
- 19:13Speaker 1: might just settle and stick around. Yeah. I think you
- 19:16Speaker 1: start to think you've invested too much time and there's
- 19:18Speaker 1: too much to lose. I was surprised to hear that
- 19:21Speaker 1: they only got engaged after 18 months together. So you
- 19:24Speaker 1: can see why she would have been feeling that way.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Even with the profile that she has, it would have
- 19:28Speaker 1: probably felt embarrassing to call off the engagement. Yeah. And
- 19:31Speaker 1: I mean, they intended to get married a lot earlier
- 19:33Speaker 1: than they did. COVID got in the way of that.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So Their engagement was a number of years, but it
- 19:39Speaker 1: just seems like Olivia was just in way too deep,
- 19:41Speaker 1: particularly with all the wedding planning and posting about it
- 19:44Speaker 1: all on social media. I mean, she has spoken previously
- 19:47Speaker 1: about how there was so much pressure on her to
- 19:49Speaker 1: actually go through the wedding because there was so much
- 19:51Speaker 1: content out there about it. Well, there were so many
- 19:53Speaker 1: brand deals happening. I mean, even her proposal seemed to
- 19:55Speaker 1: be a branding opportunity because at the time she had
- 19:58Speaker 1: a deal with Exchange Diamonds and her engagement ring ended
- 20:02Speaker 1: up being called the Olivia Molly ring. Now, this is
- 20:05Speaker 1: an important point to bring up because On the Inherited podcast,
- 20:09Speaker 1: every guest is asked to bring in a relic to discuss,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and she ended up bringing in her grandmother's ring that
- 20:15Speaker 1: her mum Nikki had handed down to her on her
- 20:18Speaker 1: wedding day. And she said that her mum wore this
- 20:20Speaker 1: ring every day on her pinky finger. And a day
- 20:24Speaker 1: before the wedding, Olivia said she remembered admiring the ring
- 20:27Speaker 1: and wishing her engagement ring looked like it. And for me,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I was like, Oh my God, so she didn't even
- 20:34Speaker 1: like the ring. At the time, I was obsessed with
- 20:37Speaker 1: her engagement ring. I was so jealous of it. Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: that surprised me as well. It's interesting that she made
- 20:42Speaker 1: those comments post-breakup. There's no way she could have said
- 20:45Speaker 1: she didn't like the ring before. Now, Olivia said that
- 20:48Speaker 1: when she received her grandmother's ring on her wedding day,
- 20:51Speaker 1: it was a very symbolic moment because her mum was
- 20:54Speaker 1: the only person who knew how scared she was that day.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And this was the most fascinating part of the interview.
- 21:01Speaker 1: We got a blow by blow of the events that
- 21:03Speaker 1: unfolded in the lead up to the wedding. So Olivia's mom, Nikki,
- 21:07Speaker 1: had flown over from Adelaide to be there for the
- 21:09Speaker 1: whole week. And a few nights before the wedding, Olivia
- 21:13Speaker 1: says something happened that really crossed boundaries for her and
- 21:17Speaker 1: her mom was there when it happened. When I heard that,
- 21:19Speaker 1: my brain started racing, going through all the different possible
- 21:22Speaker 1: scenarios and none of them were good. To me, it
- 21:25Speaker 1: sounded like she was hinting at cheating. That's the interpretation
- 21:29Speaker 1: I got from that. But you had a different theory. Yeah,
- 21:32Speaker 1: my brain went a bit darker, actually. I hope that's
- 21:35Speaker 1: not the case. Mine didn't actually go there. I just
- 21:38Speaker 1: thought potentially cheating. But anyway, the following day, Nikki said
- 21:43Speaker 1: to Olivia, look, we can call the wedding off. You
- 21:45Speaker 1: don't have to go ahead with it. And this was
- 21:48Speaker 1: on the Thursday. So it was two days out from
- 21:50Speaker 1: the wedding. And Olivia said that on that Thursday, she
- 21:53Speaker 1: was set to pick up her wedding dress. And she'd
- 21:55Speaker 1: already started receiving messages from friends who had landed in
- 21:58Speaker 1: Melbourne from interstate. And she was also set to drive
- 22:02Speaker 1: to the accommodation with her bridesmaid. So she was in
- 22:05Speaker 1: such a predicament. Yeah. It's crazy to me because Olivia
- 22:08Speaker 1: said she didn't tell her bridesmaids or any of her
- 22:10Speaker 1: friends what had gone down a couple of days earlier
- 22:12Speaker 1: because she didn't want them to feel like they had
- 22:15Speaker 1: to fake it for the wedding. Even though she was
- 22:17Speaker 1: having to. Yeah. And she said she spent the night
- 22:19Speaker 1: before in bed crying about it and trying to work
- 22:22Speaker 1: out what she possibly could say in her vows because-
- 22:25Speaker 1: Justin had made all of these promises to her, but
- 22:28Speaker 1: she wasn't sure if he was actually going to live
- 22:30Speaker 1: up to those promises. I really wish that we had
- 22:34Speaker 1: the wedding vows from I Do Cinema. They were the
- 22:36Speaker 1: videographers who filmed this wedding. We only got the Olivia edit.
- 22:40Speaker 1: We didn't get the full edit because they got divorced
- 22:42Speaker 1: by then, but I would have been fascinated to know
- 22:44Speaker 1: what she had said in them. It would be so
- 22:46Speaker 1: hard to come up with something glowing about your partner
- 22:49Speaker 1: when you've just found out that they've done something terrible.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It really is mind-blowing because I remember when the photos
- 22:54Speaker 1: started coming out of Olivia's wedding and just being absolutely
- 22:59Speaker 1: blown away by how stunning she looked and how perfect
- 23:03Speaker 1: they looked together. And I was like, oh, that just
- 23:05Speaker 1: looks like the most magical day. They had that fun
- 23:07Speaker 1: dance and she didn't look like she had a care
- 23:10Speaker 1: in the world. To know what actually was going on
- 23:12Speaker 1: behind the scenes just shows how fake social media can
- 23:15Speaker 1: be and that we never know what's actually going on
- 23:17Speaker 1: in people's lives. I just felt for Olivia and the
- 23:20Speaker 1: predicament that she was in because imagine finding something out
- 23:23Speaker 1: that's so unforgivable that your partner's done only a couple
- 23:26Speaker 1: of days beforehand. Because for her, she said she wasn't
- 23:29Speaker 1: worried about losing money from the wedding. It was more
- 23:32Speaker 1: the fact that her family and friends had paid money
- 23:34Speaker 1: to come over and all be there. It would have
- 23:36Speaker 1: been incredibly embarrassing as well to call it off that close.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And there would have been so much speculation in the
- 23:42Speaker 1: press as to why she had done so. Yeah, I
- 23:44Speaker 1: found it really interesting when she spoke about having this
- 23:46Speaker 1: hope that things would change once they became husband and wife,
- 23:50Speaker 1: how in her head, suddenly her being Justin's wife would
- 23:54Speaker 1: make a difference, which she said clearly it didn't because
- 23:57Speaker 1: they ended up breaking up after seven months. Well, I
- 24:00Speaker 1: love the fact that Olivia's mom actually pulled Justin aside
- 24:02Speaker 1: before the wedding and told him to pull his head in.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Nikki sounds like a legend. See, I don't know how
- 24:07Speaker 1: her mom was able to actually attend the wedding. I
- 24:10Speaker 1: know if it was our mom, she wouldn't be able
- 24:13Speaker 1: to put on a happy face. I mean- She probably
- 24:16Speaker 1: didn't put on a happy face, but she knew that
- 24:17Speaker 1: her daughter needed her there for support. Oh my gosh,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I saw this thing recently on social media where this
- 24:23Speaker 1: bride found out that she had been cheated on. I
- 24:26Speaker 1: think it was like a couple of days before the wedding.
- 24:29Speaker 1: And she was like, I can't pull the pin. It's
- 24:30Speaker 1: too close to the wedding. So she went along with
- 24:33Speaker 1: the whole day, got ready, had her bridesmaids there. And
- 24:38Speaker 1: then when it got to the ceremony, when she was
- 24:40Speaker 1: reading out her vows, instead of reading out vows, she
- 24:43Speaker 1: read out the text messages. that she had found between
- 24:46Speaker 1: her partner and this other woman and exposed him in
- 24:49Speaker 1: front of everyone. I was like, wow, that is incredible.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I don't think I could do that, but it's pretty remarkable,
- 24:56Speaker 1: isn't it? I mean, I think that's money well spent.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Like instead of wasting the money on the wedding, like
- 25:01Speaker 1: that was epic. Now getting back to Olivia, she said
- 25:04Speaker 1: that she was depressed for the whole seven months of
- 25:07Speaker 1: this marriage and her body was breaking down with the stress.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I actually remember her documenting her skin and her gut
- 25:14Speaker 1: issues a lot during that time. And it kind of
- 25:17Speaker 1: seemed like it came out of nowhere, which, I mean,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I remember when she opened up about the fact that
- 25:23Speaker 1: she was doing fertility treatments. I was like, oh, that
- 25:25Speaker 1: must have been it. Like her hormones must have been
- 25:27Speaker 1: going out of control. But it turns out Justin was
- 25:31Speaker 1: the problem. Like he was causing her so much stress. Well,
- 25:34Speaker 1: she said that at the time she convinced herself that
- 25:36Speaker 1: she was the problem. And she claimed that Justin would
- 25:39Speaker 1: reiterate that story to her. That made me mad when
- 25:42Speaker 1: I heard that. And she said it wasn't until the
- 25:43Speaker 1: end of that seven months that she started realizing, hey,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm actually not the problem. He is the problem. And
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't want to be in this relationship where I'm
- 25:53Speaker 1: begging someone to show up for me all the time.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I love it got to the point where she's like, okay,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I'm going to pull the trigger on this relationship and
- 25:59Speaker 1: call my sister. My sister who is completely honest and
- 26:03Speaker 1: takes no bullshit. Also who won't let you renege on
- 26:06Speaker 1: it as well. I feel like once you open up
- 26:09Speaker 1: and finally tell someone in your life, like your sister
- 26:11Speaker 1: or your friends, it becomes a lot more real and
- 26:14Speaker 1: And then you become a lot more accountable to the situation. Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And it's so great to hear that she had so
- 26:19Speaker 1: much support from her friends and family that were like, okay,
- 26:22Speaker 1: how are we going to do this? Let's get you
- 26:23Speaker 1: out of this situation. When she made this phone call
- 26:26Speaker 1: in two days time, she was supposed to have a
- 26:28Speaker 1: fertility procedure. And her sister said to her, well, Olivia,
- 26:31Speaker 1: how would you feel if you found out you were
- 26:33Speaker 1: pregnant right now? And she said her first thought would
- 26:36Speaker 1: be terrified. And her sister said, well, that's your answer there.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So with that, she ended up calling her best friends
- 26:42Speaker 1: and her mom. And they said, we will support you.
- 26:45Speaker 1: We need a game plan of how you're going to
- 26:46Speaker 1: get out of this. I know Olivia has shared that
- 26:48Speaker 1: story before, closer to when she first broke up with
- 26:51Speaker 1: Justin on the Life Uncut podcast, and I think also
- 26:54Speaker 1: on Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki. But it was
- 26:56Speaker 1: interesting to hear that story retold with the context that
- 26:59Speaker 1: we now know that Justin McKeon went on to have
- 27:02Speaker 1: a baby with Tani Leeson. And it's become very apparent
- 27:07Speaker 1: that Tani and Justin are no longer together. And every
- 27:10Speaker 1: time I see Tani post, my heart breaks for her
- 27:13Speaker 1: because she's clearly doing everything for that child. And I
- 27:16Speaker 1: think the reason that Olivia feels comfortable to open up
- 27:19Speaker 1: about all of this now is one, because there's been
- 27:21Speaker 1: a bit of time and space, but two, because I
- 27:24Speaker 1: think the public is now more aware of what she
- 27:26Speaker 1: was going through. As we have touched on many times
- 27:29Speaker 1: on this podcast, Justin McKeon recently has been accused of
- 27:32Speaker 1: stealing half a million dollars from his former employer. So
- 27:35Speaker 1: I think that she probably... Feels like people know what
- 27:38Speaker 1: she's putting down now when she speaks about him. I
- 27:40Speaker 1: feel like Olivia must be so grateful that all of
- 27:43Speaker 1: that information has come out and it's sort of validated
- 27:46Speaker 1: parts of her story that she has bravely shared thus far.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I'm just still really confused as to why she didn't
- 27:52Speaker 1: decide to open up about this on her own podcast.
- 27:54Speaker 1: It's clear that she's very passionate about the show and
- 27:57Speaker 1: growing it. And this would have been the perfect episode
- 27:59Speaker 1: to do so because so many media publications have picked
- 28:03Speaker 1: up on this story and they keep referencing the fact
- 28:05Speaker 1: that it was on the Inherited podcast. I wonder if
- 28:07Speaker 1: it's a case of she didn't really plan to be
- 28:10Speaker 1: so open and she just got really comfortable. I mean,
- 28:13Speaker 1: at the start of the episode, she spoke about being
- 28:16Speaker 1: an oversharer and being a little bit nervous to do
- 28:18Speaker 1: the interview, even though she conducts interviews on her own podcast.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Maybe she felt that being interviewed was a more appropriate
- 28:24Speaker 1: way to open up about it rather than doing a
- 28:26Speaker 1: monologue on her podcast. Well, I suppose if it had
- 28:28Speaker 1: come out on her podcast, she could have been accused
- 28:30Speaker 1: of trying to monetize a traumatic event in her life. Yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 1: It just made me like Olivia even more. I've always
- 28:37Speaker 1: been a big fan of Olivia Rogers. And I think
- 28:39Speaker 1: that she has incredible bravery going through something like this
- 28:43Speaker 1: and deciding to leave. And also, I mean, we touched
- 28:46Speaker 1: on it a little bit earlier, but her talking through
- 28:48Speaker 1: the court case when she was sexually assaulted at a
- 28:51Speaker 1: Melbourne pub. And interestingly, she was there celebrating Zara. McDonald's birthday.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And actually reminded me of when Taylor Swift sued that
- 28:58Speaker 1: guy that groped her at a meet and greet. For
- 29:01Speaker 1: a dollar. Yeah. And Olivia was saying, oh, people were like, oh,
- 29:04Speaker 1: he only pinched you on the bottom. I'm like, thank
- 29:06Speaker 1: goodness that she took a stance and actually took this
- 29:08Speaker 1: dickhead to court because he ended up having a history
- 29:12Speaker 1: of this type of behavior. And I'm just so happy
- 29:15Speaker 1: for her that she is in This fantastic relationship with Hugo,
- 29:19Speaker 1: who we have spoken about on the podcast, she was
- 29:22Speaker 1: asked whether she would want to get married again one day.
- 29:25Speaker 1: And she said that she would like to. I'm here
- 29:27Speaker 1: for the wedding content. Me too. And she said, though,
- 29:31Speaker 1: that she's realized that marriage isn't everything. But for her,
- 29:34Speaker 1: she doesn't want to take that away from Hugo. It's
- 29:36Speaker 1: something that he would like to do. Look, I know
- 29:38Speaker 1: that we usually do our predictions at the end of
- 29:41Speaker 1: this year, but one of mine will be that she
- 29:43Speaker 1: gets engaged very soon. Maybe that's why she's throwing out
- 29:47Speaker 1: hints about the engagement ring. Maybe she's thinking, look, okay, Hugo,
- 29:50Speaker 1: I like the look and style of my grandmother's ring.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Can we replicate this? It's very clever. It is very clever.
- 29:55Speaker 1: It is very clever. Well, I think that is all
- 29:57Speaker 1: we have time for today. Thank you so much for
