A four-month-old girl, Layah Mashkor, died from blunt-force head injuries inflicted by her father, Ahmed Mashkor, who later crashed his car into a guardrail and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, receiving a ten-year sentence. Despite prior reports of unexplained bruises and falls, authorities and child welfare workers failed to intervene before her death.
