Ready to roll? T- yes. [rock music] Oh. Oh. Oh.
• 0:20
Oh. And that's pretty excellent. Hey, everybody. Ho, ho, ho.
• 0:38
It's Full Spectrum Cycling, show 283, the, The Tony-less Show. Yeah. Oh, bumped that thing pretty good. My man bag is holding, holding, holding court. I'm Sven. I'm JK. That's JK over there.
• 0:55
This is a delicious dish. I just saw this song we've been using for the, uh, intro. I think I mentioned before that was an AI thing- Mm-hmm... which took several iterations. From which one? Uh, you know what?
• 1:06
I'll have to go back- I remember it-... and remember that. It had a-... 'cause you said it, like, five times... it had a catchy name that, and then they never sent any money, so no more name. Didn't work.
• 1:14
But not only did it do the music, it came up with the title of the song, which I just remembered because I had this thing on the wrong screen. [laughs] Echoes of the Void. Echoes of the Void. Is the name of the song.
• 1:31
All right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. It's pretty good. How does it know? It's, it's intelligent, I guess. [laughs] Yeah. I just ran into a, uh,
• 1:43
somewhere in the social media rabbit hole, uh, a guy I went to high school with, who was in a band with Andy Kochanski of Kochanski's- Right on... Cantina. Uh, and he's in a band that's kind of plays the
• 1:59
Waukesha, Mukwonago circuit, I think. But it had a name that was kind of clever, and I can't remember it- Uh... for the life of me, but it was in that vein- Right on... of, of just like dun-da-da, you know?
• 2:10
Was it a- Things of things, you know? Was it a doom metal-y thing? Honestly, I think it was, like, kind of a, [laughs] a pop rock and country, but it had a kind of ominous name. Ominous. But, eh. Ominous Dolls.
• 2:23
That's a new band name. Remember? Yeah. [laughs] I know. Never heard of it yet. No. The Shitty Mistys is the one that always is gonna stick around. [laughs] There's a lot of them.
• 2:31
It's amazing how people keep coming up with band names. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So, uh, what the heck's going on? Yeah. What have you been doing? I don't know. I haven't seen you. Nothing. Nothing.
• 2:42
You, you were here last week. I haven't seen you in forever. No, no, no, no. Did the birdie day, and that worked out without major incident. [laughs] Any incident happened after we left, which was nice. [laughs] So.
• 2:55
Oh, yeah. You went to West Bend, didn't you? Yeah. Every- everything worked out. Yeah. Everything kind of went, eh, haywire. It went manageable. They know what they're doing, but, you know- It's tough...
• 3:04
certain nonsensory, you know- [laughs]... I know when to pull the damn rip cord, you know? There you go. That, and it was like eh- Well, the Packer game was a good, um, break off point. Yeah.
• 3:16
But yeah, there was so much driveway time. You know, you're just sitting there like, "Oh, hey, I forgot to get this. Oh, yeah. Oh, you gotta put this in there. Oh, yeah, I forgot to say bye to this.
• 3:24
Oh, I forgot my phone." All the fun things. Yeah. You know, and it's like da-da-da-da-da, and all of this is happening while that, uh, 20% chance of flurries became 100% chance of, like, measurable snow- Sweet...
• 3:35
actively going, and my first snow driving in about four and a half years. Wow. Yeah. You navigated it all right? Oh, hell yeah, but I was white-knuckling this [laughs] shit. [laughs] Like, all hell. Every- I just-...
• 3:48
everyone's, like, yapping and talking, and they're, like, five bottles of... or five bottles, five glasses of wine into each of them. Right on. And it's like, "Ah, shut up, buddy. Na, na, na, na, na."
• 3:57
[laughs] I just noticed this thing over there. Clamp? No, this is a, uh- Oh, you wanna give me PTSD, man? It's a zip tie cutter- Yeah... that I've talked about before, and I lost mine, and- [laughs]...
• 4:10
so Tony brought his back so I could use it. Sh- And then I just found mine again. Oh. So this is Tony's, so he can have it back. But yeah, I was, like, looking through some bag- Bag...
• 4:21
bag, that was, I don't know, you know, hadn't been used in six months, and it was in there with a koozie, some, you know. So, okay. So now that's, Tony gets his, uh, sh- sh- sh- scoop back. All right. So in my youth,
• 4:37
I may have fractured a law or two in youthful indiscretions and what have you, but I had a semi, semi-permanent nose ring at the time of one of these indiscretions that put me in the weekend- [laughs] Aha...
• 4:50
county and whatever. County funding, funding place. And they said, "Take that nose ring out or somebody in the gen pop is gonna rip it out." And I said, "I have no idea how to do that."
• 5:01
So they called in two guys from the fricking bomb squad, and- [laughs] Bomb squad. Yeah.
• 5:07
And the guy's, like, shaking his head with those need- like, those clipper-type things, right, right there, right next to my, right, pointing at my eye- Yeah...
• 5:17
trying to get, trying to get the, uh, just clip it like that, and I'm like, "Ah." [laughs] So yeah, that's why. The predicaments one gets oneself in these days. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, not those days, but yeah.
• 5:29
You triggered me, man. Triggered. Okay. [laughs] Well, that's Tony's, so he can take that away next time. Way to go, man. Ay, yay, yay. All right. Speaking of Tony- Who?... who's not here, and we're talking about him.
• 5:40
He's here on the phone. He's got new hair. Oh. [laughs] Um, purple hair. Okay. All right. Um- That's how my mom knows him... Purple Hair Tony. Yeah. Uh, speaking of people- [laughs]... on the phone, it's not Tony. Oh.
• 5:54
Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? It is your number one Canadian fan, Ulroy, calling. Hey, hey. Hey, hey, Ulroy. How is it going? I- it's going well. Hey, how's it going, guys?
• 6:06
Good, good. How's it going with you? Going good. I was wanting to, um, quick catch up with you guys before Global Fat Bike Day and let yous know I, I did purchase a new fat bike. Dun, dun, dun. It's a Rocky...
• 6:22
It's a Rocky Mountain. Uh, it... They, they had a sale on it, a really sweet sale.
• 6:26
They were selling them off for, like, 1000, before tax of course, uh, 1000 and change Canadian here, which would be at this time probably about 200 bucks American. [laughs] So- Wow...
• 6:37
uh, very, very, very, very inexpensive.
• 6:41
And, uh, so yeah, I grabbed that and I've been riding around in the fall here for a little bit and I'm hoping that when this weekend hits we'll be able to, uh, take it out and cruise around a bit and have some fun with it.
• 6:50
Yeah, it should be good. Yeah. Think, uh, Global Fat Bike Day is, yeah, it's this weekend. Well, some of them have expanded their horizons to the next weekend due to conflict schedules and stuff.
• 7:02
But I just threw up a list on fatbike.com today with as many as I could find. Ev- I j- I obviously just got it going again, 'cause you commented on the first post. But, um, yeah. Yes. I th- Yeah.
• 7:13
Better late than never sort of thing. No, it's awesome. I, I'm really... I was really stoked when I saw that. I just kept checking every day waiting after we talked the last time and then I saw a little post.
• 7:22
I was like, "Yeah, right on." And then I got ahold of the guys that I ride with and said, "Guys, do me a favor." And they do look at it, but not, maybe not as religiously as I do, you know?
• 7:31
[laughs] Sitting around playing around on the phone and, "Hey, what's going on on fatbike.com?" And, um, yeah, so they, I know they put some comments there as well.
• 7:38
So, um, we're excited to see whatever form that it takes, and I'd be happy to, uh, contribute w- in whatever way that I can. And yeah, if it's interesting or something, great. Yeah.
• 7:50
I mean, just kind of, you know, do what you've done in the past, send in pictures.
• 7:54
You did an event report, which even though I'm a little late on it, we'll put it up there because it's interesting when people know where stuff happened and what that thing's kinda like. So I will, um- Yeah.
• 8:04
I'll get that going. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah, no, that was a, that was a f- a, an exclusive fat bike, um, race and poker ride that, uh, I kinda heard it through the grapevine that it was, it was happening, and then
• 8:18
they put it on, but it's kind of a what they call a flash. Um, they'll put it up on the Monday because the weather is so awful here.
• 8:26
It could like- [laughs] The last two Global Fat Bike Days have been rained out, like completely. Mm. And I, I mean, I'm talking... I don't mind riding in a little bit of drizzle. Not us this year. I don't think.
• 8:33
You know, 'cause a couple beers, that wipes it all off. It's not a problem. But when it's coming down so hard you can't see, two years in a row, I mean, I was bummed out. Sure. And, uh- Sure, sure, sure...
• 8:42
so this year it looks like we're gonna get a little bit of something, at least something dry and powdery to ride on. And so it sh- it should be ki- it should be better and a little more interesting, yeah, for sure.
• 8:52
So where- No, it was, it was fun. It was a fun event. It was well done. Well, where you guys are you don't get the lake effect like they do in other parts of the Great Lakes there, do you? For the snow. No, no, no.
• 9:03
  We're really sheltered here.
• 9:05
It, it's, it's really, it's really funny to see because, say for instance, Buffalo's only an hour, an hour and I'd say an hour and a half from here by the time you cross the border and they will get...
• 9:13
You'll see people, you know, shoveling their roofs off. Oh, yeah. Yeah. [laughs] And they seem like they're, you know, they're not, they're, they're used to it, right? Yeah.
• 9:19
So, but here you get an, a quarter inch of snow and you would not believe the bitching that goes on this, this city. [laughs] It, it, things like they, like they can't drive 100 miles an hour down the...
• 9:29
You know, you have to at some point drive to the conditions and a lot of people around here want to, just like it's summertime and it's not like that really. So you have to kind of, you know- Absolutely...
• 9:37
I see as many accidents in the dry sunny days as I do in the snow. So yeah. Right. But no, we don't get... We're quite sheltered here where I am. Yeah. All right.
• 9:48
Hey, you mentioned your new Rocky Mountain before and, and the, and the super deal you got on it. Yep. I, do you, is- Yeah...
• 9:53
Rocky Mountain going to continue to make fat bikes or do you think that they're kinda just getting rid of the last of their stock and they're kinda done with the deal? That's a good question. Um,
• 10:07
I didn't get the impression that they were... I think they were trying to clear out maybe last year's overstock. The way I kinda, the way I felt, think it was kinda just trying to move some stuff along. Sure.
• 10:14
Some overstock. I, I don't think they're getting rid of it. I hope they don't because I, I'm, I mean, I, you can always find parts. It's the, it's the frame that I was really interested in.
• 10:23
It wasn't a terribly, it wasn't terribly, um, all the nice fancy parts, but I have that on the Norco.
• 10:29
So what I was going to do in the springtime was move all the fancy parts from the Norco, 'cause I've had that a few years now and it's done me so well. Yeah.
• 10:37
And then I'll move all the fancy parts over to the, the Rocky Mountain and then I'll just continue to ride it and use the Norco as kind of the really,
• 10:43
you know, just the boot around town bike that I'm not as particular about if, you know. So that's what I'm, that's my plan anyways.
• 10:49
So yeah, no, it came with, it would came with mechanical disc brakes, which I mean, uh, quite honestly they work okay.
• 10:53
I, I, I, uh, I do prefer the hydraulic brakes and the ones that are on the Norco are much, much nicer. But- Right on...
• 10:59
you know, it, it, for the, for the deal it was mostly, uh, that they came with the 27 and a half, uh, 80 mil wide, uh, tubeless, uh, rims and the Cake Eater tires that were studdable. Oh, yeah. Those are good.
• 11:11
So I thought, well, that alone almost, that almost pays for the entire bike really.
• 11:15
So that really the frame was what I wanted and I got all the extra stuff along with it that I needed and not the stuff that I already had. So- Super... yeah, no, it worked out good. Very good. Um,
• 11:27
what else do I have for you here? Uh, ba da, ba da, ba da, ba da. I don't know if I have much more for all, right. You, you got stuff for us. That's what... [laughs] That's why you're here. Yeah.
• 11:37
I mean, you know, what do I have to- I did, so yeah... what do I have to tell you? [laughs] You're the giving tree. We're just sitting here gathering the apples. I have, I have been listen, I've been listening.
• 11:47
I liked, uh, I liked that you gave a shout-out to, to Keith is... You know, I, I, I wanna consider him the one, number one American fan for you guys. I'm the number one Canadian fan for you guys. [laughs] But, um,
• 11:58
yeah, no, it's, uh, I was, I also saw that you, that there's discussions. There always has been over the years discussions about moving the Global Fat Bike Day and I guess my argument- Oh, really?... against it- Yeah.
• 12:07
I think-... is, is that it's kind of, it's kind of for me is-
• 12:10
Because I ride it all year round, I don't think it particular- I mean, there's some, some areas of the world in Global Fat Bike Day that don't get, they don't see snow.
• 12:18
They ride sand or they'll ride, you know, that's dry and- Sure... sunny and warm. Absolutely. They'll ride in short.
• 12:22
So I mean, it's kind of to me like the sort of f- I guess North America would be kind of the kickoff to the fat bike season.
• 12:30
So it doesn't have to be the day that has all the snow because, I mean, in let's say January, February, you could ride every day, and every day could be Global Fat Bike Day. Right. But- Yeah...
• 12:37
you know, so that's the way I see it. But I mean, I don't see the ne- I don't see the need to move it. Um, but yeah, that's my argument for not moving it. Gotcha. Yeah, I think...
• 12:46
Well, so I did that big post today, and I counted, just kind of ballparked all the people that were interested in all these events around the world that are doing Global Fat Bike Day, and it was over, way over 4,000.
• 12:58
I just was kind of like, "Meh, I'm kind of lost count already." [laughs] But, um, and also 70 events, so I think obviously the day is a day that people have in their mind as that's Global Fat Bike Day.
• 13:10
Uh, but what it also- Yep... showed me was there's still interest in fat bikes, as everybody's saying, "Oh my gosh, they're not- It's a fad... making fat bikes anymore- It's a fad... with the big companies."
• 13:19
I'm like, "There's still people interested in this stuff. [laughs] It's not going anywhere." Absolutely.
• 13:24
Well, the thing, the, the thing that I always explain to people, 'cause the first thing they say is, "Isn't it, doesn't it take a lot of work to get it moving?" I go, "Absolutely not."
• 13:31
And I said, "The, the way that the frame is built, if you don't like the four-inch tires, it's built exactly like a mountain bike. Buy another set of rims with skinnier tires and ride it around like a regular bike."
• 13:40
Mm-hmm. You can get suspension on it. Yeah. There's no reason you can't just- Yeah... ride it.
• 13:43
If you don't like the four-inch tires, then just ditch them and, and then you have the availability, you can put any wheel on there you want. Absolutely. That's what- And it's so versatile. I, that's why I love it.
• 13:51
That's what we do with, uh, Kim's State. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We switch to 29 plus, you know, during the, uh, s- I guess off-season. Sure.
• 14:02
But I have a 29 plus bike anyway, so [laughs] I just leave the fat bike tires on the fat bike and l- leave the other ones on the other bike and call it a day. Oh. Oh. Oh, oh, oh.
• 14:12
Well, I, I [bell ringing] Michael, Michael's saying we're at the top of the hill here now. Just so you know. Oh, nice. If you could pull over and, and wait for us, we'll be up there in a minute.
• 14:21
[laughs] Or go hands- No worries... or go hands-free. You can- Well, we'll talk about the beer, then I got another question for you, but we're just drinking dad beer today. Sure, yep.
• 14:29
We got, we got Hamms, we got Old Style, and we have Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Yeah. Uh, one that- Well, the, the thing here, Dave, I-... won the gold medal in 1846, I believe. Yeah, go ahead, sorry.
• 14:39
[laughs] I, I, I picked up... I went up- So I don't go out in November, because I like to take a bit of a break. I, and then I, I really enjoy the Christmas beers, I enjoy the fall beers, I enjoy the pumpkin beer.
• 14:50
So I take a break in November- Yeah... 'cause I think for some strange reason, I think it's healthier for me. I, I actually think I'm more miserable when I'm... You know what I mean?
• 14:56
I w- I don't know why I'm doing this to myself, but- Mm. So I [laughs]- Yeah... December's a good time to get back at it, right before Global Fat Bike Day.
• 15:03
And I picked up one tonight that hit me and I thought, "Yeah, definitely this was the one." It's actually called Big Sexy. [laughs] And it's from [laughs] yeah.
• 15:13
It's from Refined Fool Brew- Refined Fool Brewing in, uh, Thorney, Ontario. [laughs] So yeah, 6.8. Rem- reminds me- 6.8, yeah. So I thought I-... we have not heard from Big Sexy for a while. No.
• 15:25
Well, I think he, well, his tricycle broke and then I think he got just holed up for the winter. I think he's d- Is that what happened? He's back down in New Orleans. Yeah, he's back in New Orleans for the winter. Mm.
• 15:33
We'll see, we'll see what happens after that. So, uh, uh, actually you're taking November off for, uh, you know, not drinking beer as much or any at, at all. Uh- [laughs]... got me to this...
• 15:46
Well, so, like, after a month you come back and you got a little less tolerance probably, so you're like, "Ooh, I'm a little happier now than I was- Oh, yeah... a month ago." Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 15:55
Um, so what I'm noticing about my fitness, 'cause I'm an old man- Fitness...
• 15:59
and I got this shoulder issue where I haven't been riding anywhere near as much as I need to be riding, that in just a couple months it's gotten, like, I'm walking up like two flights of stairs, I'm going, "What the...
• 16:10
Why is this so hard?" [laughs] Oh, shit. I mean, yeah. Does it really go away that fast? Yes. Yeah. All right. Well, I thought maybe I was having a heart attack or something. But I'm younger and I... No, no.
• 16:19
[laughs] I mean, 'cause ever since I got that damn van, I do not ride my bike as much. [laughs] Just because it's like, "Hey, it's cold out. I might as well just run to da-ting-ting."
• 16:29
And then I get on, uh, that clunker and it's all like, "Oh, geez. This takes a little bit of effort to get to the top of the hill." [laughs] But once we're here, ta-da. Yeah.
• 16:39
Well, it's just, it's been like, well, it's probably been close to three months really, but it, I just was like- Oh, man... amazed at how- Wow... quickly this is going away.
• 16:46
I don't know if you've ever had those kind of breaks, all right, where you just have time off from an injury or whatever the, whatever the thing is, too much work or whatever, but have you found that yet?
• 16:55
Uh, you're, you're s- Oh, yeah... you're younger than us by some, right? At least than me, I- Oh, just by a, by a bit. Yeah. Yeah. Just a little bit. Not, not far off. Not really, not that far- Right on...
• 17:03
off in, in, in terms. But no, yeah, yeah, there's...
• 17:06
It's funny because there's one hill that I, I've been back and forth to work on the exact, you know, more or less on the exact same, um, way every day for like 20 years, and there's one hill and I don't...
• 17:16
I've done it a million times, and every single time I get to the top of it I'm huffing, I'm thinking, "There's..." At some point, do you think that I'd be able to get to the thing where like I'm- Yeah...
• 17:25
like huffing and I'm thinking, "This is ridiculous. Like, I should be used to this by now." But yeah, there's, it's something about maybe it's just the short whatever. I think it's, for me, I'd, I, I- Is it going to-...
• 17:34
when I race with my friends, we go to this race... is it going to work? No, coming back from. Oh. No, coming back from. Okay. Coming back from. There's a little tiny- I mean- Yeah. [laughs]...
• 17:42
sh- just a little tiny punchy hill there. Sure. Yeah. Okay. My theory just went out the window. It's like [laughs] [laughs] I was gonna say, "Oh, yeah. Well, it's going to work. Of course.
• 17:51
The body's rebelling [laughs] against doing this." [laughs] Right on. Uh, well, I will say that I think, and I didn't, I still don't think that
• 18:01
it's actually the case, but I got the Omnium cargo bike, which I've talked about and had pictures on the site and stuff- Mm-hmm... which I super love, and it is a Shimano, uh, Steps E-assist bike.
• 18:13
And I kept thinking, well, I'm looking at my, I'm looking at my heart rate and I'm looking at all this stuff, and it's like, it's, it's as much as if I were riding it without a motor.
• 18:21
But I'm not spending as long on the bike because I'm getting where I'm going a lot faster, so I'm not really- Right... maybe instead of spending a half hour to get there, I'm getting there in, you know, 18 minutes.
• 18:32
So it's like, well, instead of 30 minutes, I'm only getting 18.
• 18:35
While I'm doing it, it's kind of the same, but once I, you know, factor in the time that I'm actually not doing it, that might be where some more of this comes in. [laughs] Yeah, I know.
• 18:48
I just- Is that, is that what- All I can say is it's bugging the shit out of me... is that what that one little thing on Ride by GPS means? It's like standing time, resting time, active time. I don't know.
• 18:56
Uh, boy, I don't, I don't know. I don't know. I, I, I looked at some of those and I'm going, I haven't got any damn idea- I haven't got any idea... what the hell these are even talking about.
• 19:02
I just, on my watch, I go Work Out and it does it. I don't specifically do- I gotta, I gotta redo it. Oh, yeah. I got a broke- Oh, oh, broken... I got a broken, broken Face ID. Yeah, nice. Eh.
• 19:12
Um, I don't specifically, ly, ly use, uh, Ride with GPS except for stuff like Steel Is Real where we're planning a route and blah, blah, blah, but- Or just curious about how fast I can go down a hill...
• 19:23
otherwise I just turn my watch on. 'Cause it is good for speed, or it was at one point. Oh, right. As long, as long as you don't get too close to downtown Milwaukee by the lakefront,
• 19:36
because I don't know what happens around there. Oh. 'Cause it just goes [imitates swirling] And you end up- It's like a magnetic field or something. Yeah.
• 19:43
Well, you end up, like when you finish a ride, it'll be like, okay, top speed 65 miles an hour, and part of the, uh, thing is about, like mile and a half into Lake Michigan. That's when you forget- On your track...
• 19:54
when you get your car and you forget to turn it off. Yeah, it's an X Files, yeah. Yeah. I was abducted somehow on my ride and I didn't know it. All right. Do you use any, uh, uh, apps or GPS things when you're riding?
• 20:08
No, I, I actually don't. I used to have a spedo- like a speedometer and a, a mile calculator on the one bike that I had, and I started to get a bit obsessive about it.
• 20:15
So if I missed a day, I'd be like, "Well, I gotta make that six kilometers up in the- [laughs]... you know, on the weekend." And so then I was adding up in my head to see how many I could actually...
• 20:23
One year I did actually calculate it and it was something, uh, like 4,000 kilometers in a year. Which wa- Mm-hmm... I mean, that was the high, at the high point in COVID where there was nothing else to do but ride.
• 20:31
Right. But, um, I mean, on average, three, 3,000 kilometers a year. But I don't, I don't, try not to obsess about it, just try to enjoy it and- Yeah...
• 20:39
and, um, but one thing, yeah, one thing that I've done that I, is totally, uh, out of my wheelhouse is a friend of mine says to me, he goes, "Do you wanna come down on Saturday morning and join this running club?"
• 20:49
And I don't know if you guys have ran in a while, but- Hell no. [laughs] It's not my cup of tea at all. That, that, seems like torture. It's- No.
• 20:54
That's why I got [laughs] that's the reason for a damn bike, so I don't have to run.
• 20:58
It was a three m- [laughs] it was a three-mile run, and I think it took me three or four days, and I'm thinking, I'm in pretty good shape, and my legs were just demolished. Oh, yeah.
• 21:07
I mean, obviously I wasn't, I didn't have running shoes. I'm running in my 5.10s and they're not really built for running.
• 21:11
But I thought the 5K didn't seem that far, but I mean, I was hurting and [laughs] it's not like... And I was sweating and it was cold here, and I'm thinking, "Wow, this is way more work than I thought it was gonna be."
• 21:21
Mm-hmm. Yeah. But yeah, I, I don't think I'm gonna be a runner. That's not- Yeah... something that I- Yeah... aspire to be is a runner. [laughs] That's not- No. I know a couple-...
• 21:27
it's interval work, but, uh- I know a couple people who they enjoy it a lot and, you know, kudos, go, go and have a great time on that, but I just can't. Yep. I mean, my knees can't take it, so- Yeah.
• 21:38
Yeah, yeah, exactly... that's one thing about it. No. Yeah. I, I just, no, I can't. All right. [laughs] All right, got another, I got another All Right question. Uh, w- we kind of started- Yep...
• 21:47
this last week with, uh, when Tony was here.
• 21:50
I kind of, I, I don't know how we're gonna continue it, but I wanna kind of bring stuff up that happens throughout the year that was like, it's l- just like cold weather gear that works really well, even if it was, like...
• 22:00
'Cause it's so different out there, even when it was just for this day, it's like, "Oh, I really, I really got those boots nailed today," and those were whatever boot it was or whatever.
• 22:08
But I, overall w- I wanna know what people's f- like favorite cold weather gear is. You got something that really works well for you and it's just like, "I'm not going out without this no matter what."
• 22:20
Well, it's funny you say, like, so y- like, you know, long johns are, like, almost like pajamas. Like they're- Mm-hmm... kind of a, um, they're not very skin-tight, you would say. They're not like typical biking gear.
• 22:32
Well, I went and bought the... The guys at work make such fun of me, and believe me, I don't wear them without shorts. [laughs] But they're these extra, like, leggings. Yeah.
• 22:40
And it's not that they're, I wouldn't say that they're necessarily, they don't have a warming capability, but they, they have the ability to keep the wind off you.
• 22:49
And I think if you keep the wind off of you, that, that keeps you the warmest. I had a pair of gloves from Louis Garneau one time that I absolutely loved.
• 22:57
I bought the ones that were windproof, and they were kind of lousy. They kind of didn't do the trick.
• 23:01
But the ones that were waterproof, or vice versa, I can't remember which it was, but they kept your hands completely warm. They were, they were- Mm.
• 23:08
But that's the one I, the mo- the thing that I need on most of those leggings. Yeah. Everything else is- Yeah... is bas- your basic, you know, winter gear. I try to get some pants that aren't too...
• 23:17
You definitely don't wanna start sweating, so the thing is when you leave the house, you wanna kind of be a little cool. Mm-hmm. But once you get moving, um, you know...
• 23:26
And I did buy a pair of, I try to at least look like a cyclist, so I did buy a pair of these Race Face, um, like, uh, I wanna say they're not like splash pants.
• 23:36
[laughs] But they're almost like a, uh, a moisture-resistant and, uh- Wiggy, wiggy, wiggy... warm. Like, they're not insulated. They're... You know what I mean? So they, I wear those all the time too, and they're great.
• 23:47
So getting back to the leggings. Um, so those are the two items that I, that I wear. Yes. Do they have a little lace right around the ankle? [laughs] Oh. [laughs] No, they, thank God, they don't.
• 23:57
They, they call it- They don't. That's not- Michael, they call it a reflector. If they did- It's not lace.
• 24:03
[laughs] I would pull my socks up over that if it w- No, I, I was- I can't think of anything more fun though than, than that... I was in the s- I was in the same position.
• 24:10
I was out east and, uh, I was in a Rite Aid- And just wandering around and just like, okay.
• 24:17
And I looked at this clearance rack, and I saw this thing of leggings for, I don't know, it's like two bucks or something like that.
• 24:25
[laughs] And I looked at it going like, "Hell, you know, those would work out nicely as, you know, base layer for the leggings- Yeah, yeah. For sure... during and whatever." And sure as shit, I still have them.
• 24:36
I mean, they're a little busted in the whatever. The hoo-ha. Yeah. Nini-nini area? Well, I mean- Yeah... I'm a man, and those are made for women, and [laughs] that's what happened.
• 24:45
[laughs] But yes, I understand completely. I was just like, "I have no shame on that, man." No. I've got no, no- And how, how does anybody else know, especially if they're black? What, the people?
• 24:54
They are bla- everything's black. Why is, why is- [laughs] Because they're all black... all biking gear black? The leggings, sir. It's all black. The leggings. [laughs] Oh, Soph. The leggings, yeah.
• 25:01
Look at, look at Michael's shirt, by the way. [laughs] Jesus. Check out Michael. Michael's got, uh, a shirt on with, uh, Bill Murray as, uh... Is that Bill Murray? No, that's, uh- Yeah. Is it? Yeah.
• 25:11
It could've been Bad Santa Clause too, though. Mm-hmm. Billy Bob, just because it's, it's a likeness, but it's not, like, a total ripoff of- Indeed. You know what I'm saying? Yes, yes.
• 25:21
I could, I could, that could be a Billy Bob. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You could, you very easily say, 'cause that's- Yeah... quite possibly the- Well, it's a- It's definitely the funniest, uh, movie for holidays, for sure.
• 25:33
I'm not sure it's not the funniest movie of all time, [laughs] 'cause it's pretty freaking funny. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I haven't... Yeah. If- For some reason, Bad Santa 2 keeps floating up and- Oh, no...
• 25:43
and- Bad Santa 1, for sure. I, oh, I know. I mean, the second one just happens to be on, like, Pluto TV when I'm just, "Uh, I don't wanna think about what I wanna watch." [laughs] All righty.
• 25:54
Hey, Elroy, you got anything you wanna leave us with? We're gonna wrap this sucker up, and, uh, [sighs] I know it's a couple days away, but I'm already- No, it's just, I-... thinking about Global Fat Bike Day, so.
• 26:04
I'm getting, I'm getting excited. I'm just on call at work, so I'm kinda have to hang tight for another night of being, uh, tied to the phone, and then I'm free. So no, I'm, I'm getting ready for it.
• 26:13
I've been laying out all my gear and trying to watch the weather and, yeah, I'm, uh, getting excited for it. Hopefully this year it doesn't not rain like- Yeah, yeah... three in a row. It's stuck, but- Yeah.
• 26:22
[laughs] No, that's pretty much it. Yeah, so- I just wanted to catch up with you guys just before and- Sure... yeah. Hey, keep checking in on fatbike.com. Uh, tell your friends, tell your family.
• 26:31
It's something that, uh- Absolutely, I hope to... you know, w- I, I, at first, I mean, it's been...
• 26:36
So just because you mentioned this a couple months ago, it's been a slog to get it back to where it's actually operational and all that, and- Mm. I'm working on the- Yeah...
• 26:44
event calendar now, which I still thought was a good feature from before. But, um, just the f- that first post when, when f- 50 people said, "Yeah, don't. Stop doing this," I'm like, "All right.
• 26:56
Well, now I got a pat on the back." And then the Global- Get a kick in the behind...
• 27:00
and then the Global Fat Bike Day interest just today, it's like, yeah, yeah, I guess there really is an audience still, 'cause, you know, everybody's, you know, doomsayer. But yeah, cool. I'm, you know...
• 27:09
And feel free to send reports in. In fact, send pictures in from Global Fat Bike Day, [laughs] because- Yes. Mm-hmm. Yes, yes... that would be really cool.
• 27:18
Oh, oh yeah, I've got a couple other things I can do too, and I, I, I, I haven't done a video yet. I've kinda pieced one together of my...
• 27:23
I was goofing around with the GoPro and I, with my kids, but I, my kids are better at the tech than I am, so I asked my son to help me, you know, piece it all together and make it look proper.
• 27:32
So I might just throw that there too, and then, and if it's good enough, then yeah. Yeah, right on. Re-use it, whatever you- That'd be good... whatever you can use. Yeah. Okay.
• 27:40
I do wear, I do wear my fatbike, uh,.com jersey with pride, and I get a lot of compliments on it, so it's, I'm always, I'm always sporting that as well here, so. Yeah, I'm working on a couple other things.
• 27:49
Hopefully we'll have some s- merch next, you know, s- it'll be a bit, but it's on the, it's on the docket, so. Ooh, nice. Love it. All right.
• 27:57
Well, you know, just any ways that we can support the site, because it, it does still take time and cost money, so I gotta figure out ways where- Yeah...
• 28:04
I'm not gonna beat advertisers up by telling them they suck if they don't, you know, advertise- [laughs]... like some other people did. But I, I'm, I wanna try and make it valuable for people to
• 28:15
participate and somewhat fund, but still get some value out of it, you know, more than just the site itself, so anyway. Yeah.
• 28:23
Well, I, I have purchased, I, hon- honest to goodness, I have seen reviews on things there from different people that have posted, that I've been looking for something and I've gone back to it and I've actually purchased stuff that I've seen on that website.
• 28:35
So, so just a testimony of that, that and it does, uh, I know that for me, for sure, I've had more than one thing that I've gotten off there and said, "Hey, that would really work good for me," and, and bought it because of the website, so.
• 28:45
Right on. All right. Appreciate that. Yep. All right. Okay, all right. Yep. No worries. Uh, thanks for calling. We'll catch up with you soon, I hope. Yes. Thanks. Merry Christmas, guys. Yep. Happy holiday. You too. Bye.
• 28:57
Yeah, you guys too. Yep, bye-bye. All right. Elroy, everybody. Gotta be honest, I thought the area code, unless I got it wrong- Okay... 'cause I think it's an Iowa area code, so I was like, "Oh, it's Chewy."
• 29:10
It bounced off the transmitters. But I don't know. What do you know? Maybe it wasn't. It was obviously not Chewy. [laughs] It was- Well, yeah... almost. Freaking Elroy.
• 29:18
All right, here's something I wanna mention, because we can mention it more before it happens, but I wanna get it out there.
• 29:24
How we were talking about moving Global Fat Bike Day, which now I think is not really, doesn't really matter. We don't need snow to do it, but- Well, globally. I mean, just- Globally. Yeah.
• 29:34
But this is- I'm just saying selfishly. Right on. So here's the- It always butts up against the, the Rampage, so. Well, yeah, but here- All right. Go, go, go, go... okay, here's the thing. Go.
• 29:47
The Nut Factory open house was always in February. Shortest month of the year. February. Uh, and the idea has been floated by the building elders that we do it again in, say it with me, February. February.
• 30:02
Yeah, instead of September, which I never really liked it all that much. I was like, it's a good midwi- midwinter, like, soiree and- Yeah...
• 30:11
you know, you're, you're not, you're not conflicting with 90 other things, maybe only 68 or something, and- Sure So, uh, th- the date floated out there's the 22nd of February.
• 30:21
I'm not saying that's etched in stone yet, but I am saying- But 222... pretty sure we're doing- It just sits in your head... 22225. Bam. So yeah, so hopefully that happens and- Two plus two equals five, you see?
• 30:36
And I w- uh, really, really super, like absolutely wanna get this studio done so we can start renting it out, but it will be open no matter what. Um- But it'll be so purdy by 222...
• 30:49
it should be usable or even used- 222... by then, I hope, because- 222... it's, yeah, it's costing money not doing anything here, except us having fun, which is top-notch.
• 31:01
Uh, da, da-da, the Santa Ramp- what are we doing for Santa Rampage? There, I was gonna go to Decorah, but now I'm not going to Decorah. Uh, well, I'm staying here. Yeah. And I'm having fun. Well, now I am, too. Um...
• 31:17
And also Global Fat Bike Day went. I'm not sure what, I, I really don't know what's... I mean, I honestly don't. Um, my assumption being gonna meet over at, uh- Hollander... r- r- rally over to- Rally at Hollander? No.
• 31:32
Roll, rally over at Nomad. Oh, that would, that could work. I mean- I don't, I-... yeah, nostalgically, yeah, you start at Hollander, but- Rem- remember how I was saying my fitness kinda sucks?
• 31:42
Maybe I'll just go over there and bring a beer with me and just drink it outside. That could work. And, and then, and then go down to Nomad. Sure. I mean, I'm in on that side part.
• 31:50
And then go to Swinging Door and then go home. Boom. Eh. Perfect day. Nah. Well, there's that. Otherwise, I dunno.
• 31:56
But, um [laughs] We'll let, we'll let it flow out as it may, but- A friend, a friend of the family wants to join. [sighs] What kind of friend? A friend of a friend of a in-law of a friend.
• 32:06
I mean, you wanna talk about, uh, how families are twice removed and cousins- [laughs]... ya, da-da-da-da-da. Oh yeah, this is... Oh, let's see. How did we do this one? [laughs] Uh, stepson's wife's
• 32:25
friend who was the officiant of their wedding there. Aaron? No. Oh, their wedding. Their wedding. Not your wedding. No. No, no, no. So- Pick, pick and, give me one of the- Uh... I mean, a s- Give me the dog style...
• 32:38
give, give me a style, baby. Um- Down to the dog style. Gotcha. Well, I mean, it, you know- No, I, uh, well, I d- So they're not riding a fat bike, I assume-... I honestly have no idea... 'cause it's, it's- Nah. Nah...
• 32:48
just rampaging, not fat biking. No, well, yeah, she just wants a place to launch from or whatever, but she wants to make it down to Bayview. I, I don't know. I'm like, "Listen-" Nah.
• 32:58
I'm like, "Nah, I'm not gonna be volunteered for the tour guide part" Ooh... of this... that was almost a volcano action... but, I mean, it's cool. A little be- beware of the old style.
• 33:06
I mean, I just, I don't know what I'm in... Yeah. I don't know, but, uh, the Scott, the Mundy, I do believe, wants to join up. Yeah, and I, I feel- I mean, my-... I feel bad because I don't have a plan.
• 33:18
I'm like, "Scott, I'm not ignoring you. I just don't know what the hell we're doing." [laughs] I said, too. I, uh, I was like- He wanted-... eh... he wanted to hang with the cool kids, and I get that, you know?
• 33:26
I, my idea is- It's quite obvious the cool kids are the ones that he's talking about...
• 33:30
I mean, nobody really w- I mean, I, I will only swing by Hollander and have a beer outside that I brought with me simply- Well, is anybody really starting there? 'Cause there's stuff starting- No... in River West, too.
• 33:41
No, no, no. Um, the, uh, I approved the nice kids, uh, the nice kids' route a la Jake and the Bike Fed is- Shaka-laka-ting-dong... from [laughs] from, uh,
• 33:59
Wheels Rock at Bayview all the way up- I, I like to call that actually Wisconsin Bike Fed. Sure, whatever. Right on. Same, same. I, I mean, that's- [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. I'm just... I get it. Continue.
• 34:13
I get it. I get it. Continue. Uh, so they're serpentine slow roll all the way up to Hollander around noon or something like that. Which one? The s- the Towosa Hollander? No. No, the downer. Oh, okay.
• 34:29
So he, he hits that and then bounces back and goes the other way. Just like a ping ping Ricochet Rabbit business? Yeah.
• 34:35
Well, I mean, stop along the way wherever you want to, but I mean, as ride leader, I'm sure he just- Oh, copy that. Okay... does da, da, da, da, da. Like, hey, you can stop at Nomad. You could stop at Coin.
• 34:45
You could stop along the way. Tour guide Julie McCoy. Yeah. Um, so- Tour director, actually...
• 34:53
well, yeah, that's one of these parts where I was like, oh yeah, well, if I have to play cruise director for somebody I'm not really [laughs]... I, I know her enough, but not that well to be like, hey, okay. And plus,
• 35:08
I don't know how you do with the, uh, ha-ha, drinking and, uh, bicycling frivolity, 'cause I have been on some- Guess we'll find out... well, no, and I don't, I don't know.
• 35:19
I burned my hand on that stove twice- [laughs]... and I don't fucking do that again. Uh. I mean [laughs] I was like, okay, and there's the road rash all across the cheek. There it is.
• 35:32
From, like, three fucking moves away. We did this- That's amazing... we did this sucker again. Hey, thanks, everybody, for listening. Thanks, Al Roy, for calling in and making the show.
• 35:40
Thank you, Chewy, for not interrupting us because that was top-notch. Yeah, well done. And, uh, I hope your hockey game went well. Only, um, what is it now? Say 13 weeks left in the season, so, um, you can enjoy life.
• 35:53
Lucky 13. You can enjoy life after that. [laughs] Lucky 13, 13, 13. It's always 13. And, uh, adieu. Oh, away we go. Bye. [hard rock music] Bye.
• 36:08
  [hard rock music]
