- 0:06Speaker 1: Alright, alright, Episode five, The Folly and Tony Fosco Show.
- 0:12Speaker 1: As always, Folly Fousto here with Tony Fusco. Coming off
- 0:16Speaker 1: a big NFL weekend. Tony, I'm so excited because a
- 0:21Speaker 1: lot of people probably watched the football games this weekend
- 0:25Speaker 1: and don't know what to make of it. So I'm
- 0:27Speaker 1: excited to just teach everybody and kind of show them
- 0:31Speaker 1: what really happened in the NFL this weekend. We're gonna
- 0:34Speaker 1: do that for you. We're gonna clear it all up,
- 0:36Speaker 1: all your questions. Now. Remember, subscribe on Apple, Spotify, all
- 0:40Speaker 1: those things. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, look for The
- 0:43Speaker 1: Fusco Show. Now, Tony, we got a big show today
- 0:47Speaker 1: and we got a guest. He's a three time Super
- 0:50Speaker 1: Bowl champion. But when we did our research, I kind
- 0:55Speaker 1: of uh found something out. I want to push him
- 0:58Speaker 1: on this. Yes, you did it, so it's gonna be
- 1:01Speaker 1: a very very interesting conversation. Well, we're gonna put him
- 1:05Speaker 1: on the spot Fox Sports. You've seen him there, Mark Schlereth. Anyway,
- 1:10Speaker 1: we got a lot to get so let's get into it.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It's time for Week one takeaways Eagles at Washington Football Team.
- 1:20Speaker 1: All right, look now, I know a lot of people.
- 1:23Speaker 1: They're coming out, they say, and uh, Corson when he
- 1:26Speaker 1: blew the game, that's bullshit. The offensive line was atrocious.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I mean, he once was taking more hits than a
- 1:33Speaker 1: line judge of the Novak Djokovic match. It was ridiculous.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The offensive line is clearly to blame here, Tony, your thoughts.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It's like this, if you're driving down a highway and
- 1:44Speaker 1: a card jumps over the median and hits you, is
- 1:48Speaker 1: it your fault. No, it's the median's fault. The median
- 1:53Speaker 1: needs to do its job and the offensive line needs
- 1:58Speaker 1: to do its job. I don't know how you can
- 2:00Speaker 1: blame Corson Wentz for getting sacked twenty five times in
- 2:04Speaker 1: a game. That's not his fault, Well said Tony. And
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know everyone's making a big deal now Washington suddenly
- 2:11Speaker 1: better than the Eagles. Come on, we all know one
- 2:13Speaker 1: game doesn't matter. And besides, the Eagles won half the game.
- 2:17Speaker 1: They won the first half sev right that they were done,
- 2:21Speaker 1: they know, they thought, oh this is over, we won,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and then you know they just kind of took their
- 2:25Speaker 1: foot off the pedal. But to call that a win
- 2:27Speaker 1: for Washington, no, it's more like a tie, exactly. Absolutely.
- 2:31Speaker 1: And there's one thing we didn't want to bring it up,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but you know, we kind of noticed something. You know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: Doug Peterson did not look himself. And when you think
- 2:40Speaker 1: about it, he's still getting over coronavirus. Uh. You know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: the doctors they said he's asymptomatic. But if you look
- 2:47Speaker 1: at him and Tony, we looked at him, right, we
- 2:49Speaker 1: slowed it down. You know, you look look slow. He
- 2:53Speaker 1: looked contagious, you know. Yeah. I went to the CDC
- 2:57Speaker 1: website and it says simple terms of COVID high fever confusion.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I mean, you know when you're confused, that leads to
- 3:07Speaker 1: bad play calling. And you saw him sweat, and we
- 3:10Speaker 1: both saw him sweat, and which shows he probably still
- 3:13Speaker 1: has a little bit of fever. He's not himself. Doug
- 3:16Speaker 1: ep wasn't himself. It was obvious. So we just gotta
- 3:21Speaker 1: throw that one out. Doesn't count, all right, But now
- 3:23Speaker 1: let's get to our next game. Books Now, Tony, we
- 3:28Speaker 1: totally called this one. Nobody else did. We were on
- 3:31Speaker 1: it from the get go. Brady looked horrible, he looked old,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and I gotta say it's over. I mean, this was
- 3:40Speaker 1: the first game. This was his chance to set the tone, right.
- 3:43Speaker 1: That's what the first game is. It's the tone set up.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And you know a lot of people will say, oh, well,
- 3:48Speaker 1: you know, one game, it doesn't matter. Oh yeah, well
- 3:52Speaker 1: the Super Bowls one game. You seem to think that counts.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So look, I gotta say, I think it's a disaster
- 3:59Speaker 1: in Tampa. Close the book, right, yeah, listen, And I
- 4:02Speaker 1: looked it up, and teams that lose in Week one
- 4:06Speaker 1: go on to miss the playoffs point three percent of
- 4:11Speaker 1: the times. So you know what, people say, it's just
- 4:14Speaker 1: one game and it doesn't matter, check the stats, because
- 4:18Speaker 1: it does matter. And not to say also, honestly, we
- 4:21Speaker 1: talked about this, PAULI. If I'm Tampa Bay, I'm taking
- 4:25Speaker 1: a hard look at Josh Rosen this week. You know,
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's very clear to me Josh Rosen plays very good
- 4:34Speaker 1: and the temperate climate of Florida, because he looked good
- 4:38Speaker 1: in California. You know, he looked good in the preseason
- 4:42Speaker 1: in Arizona. I might start Josh Rosen. You know, if
- 4:46Speaker 1: he's available on your waiver wise for fantasy, you might
- 4:49Speaker 1: want to pick him up this week. It's an excellent
- 4:51Speaker 1: point there you go, alright, let's move to the final
- 4:54Speaker 1: game we're gonna review here at Lions. All right, Well,
- 4:58Speaker 1: y'all know we said the band should have started Nick
- 5:01Speaker 1: Foles instead of Mitch Trobinsky, and I gotta say we
- 5:04Speaker 1: were right. You know, people are gonna say, oh, but
- 5:08Speaker 1: Pauli and Tony, what are you guys talking about? The
- 5:11Speaker 1: Bears ended up winning the game. No, see, that's why
- 5:14Speaker 1: you listen to us, because the Bears didn't win that game.
- 5:18Speaker 1: The Lions lost that game. Trubisky was an absolute disaster.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Who was It's Tony? Who was on the field when
- 5:28Speaker 1: the game was decided? Was it Mr? Robinsky? Nope? No, no, nope,
- 5:32Speaker 1: it was Stafford and that bum that running back that
- 5:36Speaker 1: was wide open and dropped the game winning touchdown. He
- 5:40Speaker 1: didn't drop it because he can't catch. He dropped it
- 5:43Speaker 1: because he couldn't believe that the Bears didn't start Nick Foles.
- 5:47Speaker 1: He was like, I can't believe we're not losing by
- 5:50Speaker 1: sixty right now, and he dropped the ball. So that's
- 5:54Speaker 1: what we mean when we're going to clear things up.
- 5:56Speaker 1: The rushed into judgment. They see the score and they
- 5:58Speaker 1: think that's the whole story. No, people. All right, Uh, well,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I see he's on the line, so let's get him
- 6:05Speaker 1: on here. It's time to bring our guests in on
- 6:08Speaker 1: the FUSCO Satellite network. All right, let's bring in our guest.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He's a three time Super Bowl champion with Washington and Denver.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He's also an analyst you've seen on ESPN and FS one.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Let's get him on here. Mark Hilaris, Welcome to the show.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Thank you, guys. Great to be on the show with
- 6:29Speaker 1: you guys. Yeah, now, before we get into the whole
- 6:31Speaker 1: the NFL, you've got one of the weirdest nicknames I've
- 6:34Speaker 1: ever heard. Stink. You get that? Uh they call you
- 6:37Speaker 1: stink because you ship your pants or something. What happened there? Well, no,
- 6:41Speaker 1: it actually comes from actually comes from my group in Alaska.
- 6:45Speaker 1: My sister taught an Eskimo village called aka Chuck, Alaska
- 6:49Speaker 1: on the Custoquim River, and they used to cut off
- 6:51Speaker 1: the heads of salmon, bury him in the dirt, dig
- 6:54Speaker 1: him up, and eat him rotten. And so that's how
- 6:57Speaker 1: I got the nickname stink, actually the stakhead, and occasionally,
- 7:02Speaker 1: well not occasionally, pretty much every game I used also
- 7:04Speaker 1: pissing my pants and so the name just kind of
- 7:07Speaker 1: stuck that way. So yeah, I did. Uh, I did
- 7:11Speaker 1: urinate my pants pretty much every game. So what you're
- 7:14Speaker 1: saying is I'm half right, right, Yeah, well, I mean
- 7:16Speaker 1: essentially you're you're close. Yes, you know it's coming out
- 7:19Speaker 1: of a hole anyway, So that gets all right. Now, look,
- 7:22Speaker 1: let's get into what happened this weekend. Now, you know
- 7:24Speaker 1: you played offensive line. You know that you watched that
- 7:27Speaker 1: Eagles game. Don't you agree that you know people are
- 7:30Speaker 1: wrong for blam and Cosson Wentz that the blame should
- 7:33Speaker 1: a hundred percent beyond the offensive line who caused the
- 7:36Speaker 1: Eagles to lose. Right, Um, well, I mean yeah, I would.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I would point more to coaching. I mean, I look
- 7:44Speaker 1: at that from the standpoint of if you can't protect
- 7:47Speaker 1: your quarterback, especially when you know you've got young players
- 7:52Speaker 1: or backup players or players that don't have experience, you've
- 7:55Speaker 1: got to do things to protect those guys, especially against
- 7:59Speaker 1: an outstanding defensive line. So, um, you've gotta be able
- 8:03Speaker 1: to run the ball more consistently. You've gotta be able
- 8:05Speaker 1: to set up your play action. You've gotta throw screens
- 8:07Speaker 1: and bubble screens. You've gotta do things to essentially take
- 8:10Speaker 1: pressure off the quarterback. So, you know, a lot of
- 8:13Speaker 1: what happens to a lot of what happens in football
- 8:16Speaker 1: teams is you see a bad performance by an offensive
- 8:18Speaker 1: line and you think it's the offensive line's fault. Sometimes
- 8:22Speaker 1: the quarterback holds the ball, sometimes the steepers aren't getting open,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and sometimes coaches just called really bad games. So there's
- 8:29Speaker 1: a combination of things. There's a little bit of blame
- 8:31Speaker 1: to go around for everybody. Yeah, but Mark, if you're
- 8:34Speaker 1: driving down the highway and a card jumps over the
- 8:38Speaker 1: median and hits your car, you know, it's not the
- 8:41Speaker 1: coach's fault. It's the median's fault. You gotta blame the
- 8:45Speaker 1: median for not doing its job, and in this case,
- 8:49Speaker 1: the median is the offensive line. Doesn't that make sense, Mark, Um, No,
- 8:55Speaker 1: that it doesn't make sense. I mean there's a lot
- 8:58Speaker 1: of things that go on. Mean, it just isn't as
- 9:01Speaker 1: easy as hey, our offense, our offensive line sucks and
- 9:04Speaker 1: their defensive line is really good. I mean, it just
- 9:07Speaker 1: there's a lot of other things that go in to
- 9:09Speaker 1: actually protecting a quarterback. There you go, right, as as
- 9:12Speaker 1: we've been trying to say that you can't blame Conson
- 9:15Speaker 1: Wentz at all for what happened. Now, let's just move
- 9:18Speaker 1: to the other side of the ball there. Now. You
- 9:19Speaker 1: know Washington, Yeah, they won one game, you know it
- 9:22Speaker 1: was kind of a tie. Really, as we've discussed, they
- 9:25Speaker 1: haven't won a Super Bowl since you know, who knows when,
- 9:27Speaker 1: since when you were there, right that was, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: forty years ago whatever it is. Now, did they have
- 9:33Speaker 1: a call you, Washington and say, hey, look, what's such
- 9:35Speaker 1: a ship organization? When you were here, we weren't so shitty.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Can you help come back and you know, figure out
- 9:42Speaker 1: why we're so shitty? Uh? No, they have not. They
- 9:45Speaker 1: have not made that call. I mean, here's the thing.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I agree with you. They have just I mean never
- 9:50Speaker 1: since Daniel Snyder bought that team. They are absolute horseshit.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I mean they've been horrible. Um, I mean to the
- 9:56Speaker 1: point where they don't even have a name anymore. They
- 9:58Speaker 1: just called the Washington football team. And the sad thing is,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you guys still lost to their assets. They don't have
- 10:04Speaker 1: a nickname, and you couldn't be No, no, no, we've
- 10:07Speaker 1: explained it. We were up seventeen. Oh, we kind of
- 10:10Speaker 1: took off foot off the gas. But if you look
- 10:12Speaker 1: at it that we won a half, they won a half,
- 10:14Speaker 1: so it's a push. It's a push the half they won.
- 10:18Speaker 1: They scored more points though, so it's not a push. Yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 1: but that was only because the game was moving a
- 10:24Speaker 1: little slower at that time, so they had a little
- 10:27Speaker 1: more time. You know, cousing Wents was so quick out
- 10:29Speaker 1: of the gun in that it was like time actually
- 10:31Speaker 1: sped up in the first half. You know. Yeah, that's interesting,
- 10:35Speaker 1: that is interesting. It's still only so much time, you know.
- 10:38Speaker 1: You can't you can't cheat. They can't cheat the cloth.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I mean, there's only so much. No. But plus we
- 10:43Speaker 1: we also predicted before the season that the Eagles would
- 10:46Speaker 1: probably go fifteen and one, then they would rest the
- 10:49Speaker 1: starters at the end of the season. Uh you know
- 10:52Speaker 1: after going fifteen and oh and they would probably lose
- 10:55Speaker 1: to Washington. So our predictions still correct. We just got
- 10:58Speaker 1: it a little backwards that the Eagles will probably go
- 11:00Speaker 1: on a run. You must agree that the Eagles will
- 11:03Speaker 1: right the ship and go fifteen and one, correct. I
- 11:06Speaker 1: don't know about fifteen and one, but I do think
- 11:09Speaker 1: the Eagles will right the ship. I do think they'll play,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you know, pretty good football. I mean, I look at
- 11:14Speaker 1: that whole division and I think the first one, the
- 11:16Speaker 1: first team to nine wins in that division probably wins
- 11:19Speaker 1: that division. Maybe ten, but I think the first team
- 11:21Speaker 1: to nine probably locks that thing up. You're right, and
- 11:24Speaker 1: we'll get there in week ten. So that's when we'll
- 11:26Speaker 1: lock it up, all right. Uh Now, look, you know
- 11:29Speaker 1: we did a little research on you. You retired when
- 11:32Speaker 1: you were thirty five years old, and you know, Tony
- 11:34Speaker 1: and I we think that is the proper age to retire.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know, you look at these players, Mark that that
- 11:39Speaker 1: playing so old. Now Tom Brady, he's like nine playing
- 11:43Speaker 1: the playing too long these days? Don't you think these
- 11:46Speaker 1: guys are just embarrassing themselves hanging onto hanging onto their careers.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And I don't know, I think it's I think it's awesome.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I mean it is you know, you get to live
- 11:55Speaker 1: out a childhood journeyman, if you can do it, tell
- 11:57Speaker 1: your forty five God bless you that that is great. Obviously,
- 12:01Speaker 1: the game has changed a little bit. You don't beat
- 12:03Speaker 1: each other up as much as you used to back
- 12:05Speaker 1: in the day, and so you know, longevity is is better.
- 12:09Speaker 1: But I think it's great to go out there and compete.
- 12:12Speaker 1: If you still love to compete, and you still love
- 12:14Speaker 1: to train and put it out there, then then I
- 12:15Speaker 1: think that's awesome. Play as long as you possibly can.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But even if if Tom Brady, as we saw uh
- 12:22Speaker 1: this past Sunday, is turning into Matt Shop except not
- 12:25Speaker 1: as effective, don't you think that if he continues to
- 12:29Speaker 1: go down the Matt Shop road, he should maybe uh
- 12:32Speaker 1: get benched in favor of Josh Rosen. Um No, I mean,
- 12:38Speaker 1: did you see Josh Rosen? Like he looked like the
- 12:41Speaker 1: most disinterested person on the planet. Like I cannot believe
- 12:45Speaker 1: I've got to sit in the stands, Like I'm sure
- 12:47Speaker 1: there's you know, some equation I should be studying back
- 12:50Speaker 1: at home with my you know, chemistry book. I don't know.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I just looked. It looked bad to me. Tom Brady
- 12:56Speaker 1: will be fine. I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will
- 12:58Speaker 1: be fine. I think they'll win a lot of games.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Um and uh, you know, I'm not ready to write
- 13:03Speaker 1: the oh bit on Tom Brady like most people, I'm all,
- 13:06Speaker 1: most people just hate Tom Brady because of all the
- 13:09Speaker 1: women they did, except of course, when they played Philly
- 13:11Speaker 1: in the super Bowl. Right, that's right, Yeah, you guys
- 13:17Speaker 1: should hate Tom Brady. You guys should actually like Tom Brady.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Why oh, who said? You know, I don't hate. Hate
- 13:24Speaker 1: is a very strong word, you know, we don't like
- 13:27Speaker 1: to use say, you know, but you listen, Tom Brady,
- 13:30Speaker 1: Let's be honest. You can't call him the goat because
- 13:34Speaker 1: he lost to the real goat, Nick Falls, So you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: all the goat nonsense. We know who the goat is.
- 13:40Speaker 1: He's in Chicago right now, just waiting to save that franchise.
- 13:44Speaker 1: His name is Nick and that brings us to it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Thank you, Tony for bringing that up, because we have
- 13:49Speaker 1: a very serious topic to discuss with you. Mark ya,
- 13:52Speaker 1: aren't you just floored by the disrespect being shown to
- 13:55Speaker 1: super Bowl hero, American hero Nick Foles in that joke
- 14:00Speaker 1: of a quarterback Mitch Robinsky stock when he should be
- 14:03Speaker 1: the starter? I think you know what I mean. I
- 14:07Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if Nick Foles ends up being a
- 14:10Speaker 1: starter sometime. Nick Foles, hey, listen, he was great for
- 14:14Speaker 1: you guys off the bench. I mean that's been the
- 14:16Speaker 1: role that he has really thrived, and he really hasn't
- 14:19Speaker 1: thrived when he's gotten the chance to be a starter.
- 14:22Speaker 1: So maybe that's the best role for him. Come in,
- 14:25Speaker 1: be the underdog guy rather than troops around him and
- 14:28Speaker 1: and win that way. He uh, certainly had his struggles,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but I'm not gonna hold him accountable rabbing struggles in
- 14:34Speaker 1: Jacksonville because pretty much everybody their brother, uncle and brother's
- 14:37Speaker 1: uncle has had struggles in Jacksonville. You know, it's true,
- 14:42Speaker 1: It's true, you know. But here's the thing. He was
- 14:44Speaker 1: a backup. But that doesn't mean you know, he was
- 14:47Speaker 1: he was bad or anything. I mean, think about it.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Imagine if the Broncos teams that you are on, Mark
- 14:53Speaker 1: had Nick Foles instead of John Elway, you guys might
- 14:56Speaker 1: have won like six super Bowls in a row. I
- 15:01Speaker 1: never yeah, I never actually thought about that, but um,
- 15:05Speaker 1: we're probably at that time still would have been have
- 15:11Speaker 1: been in the ball still. But now look, let's go.
- 15:15Speaker 1: We got one more thing before we go, and this
- 15:17Speaker 1: is now Tony. Tony did his research here and he
- 15:20Speaker 1: looked up something, Tony, tell tell Mark what you found. Now, Mark,
- 15:25Speaker 1: you were a member of what was called the Hogs,
- 15:29Speaker 1: the offensive line with the with Washington in the season
- 15:36Speaker 1: when they won the super Bowl. Now, I wanted to
- 15:38Speaker 1: look at Washington's record. They went fourteen and two that season.
- 15:43Speaker 1: But that last game of the season, you went into
- 15:47Speaker 1: Philly playing at the Vet, and looky, looky here it
- 15:51Speaker 1: looks like the Eagles blew out Washington twenty four to
- 15:56Speaker 1: twenty two in a blowout. Now, Mark, do you think
- 16:00Speaker 1: that that kind of tarnishes your ring? Well? I like,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you know, it's always hard to lose. We lost two
- 16:08Speaker 1: games that season, and obviously when you lose due division rival,
- 16:11Speaker 1: that's tough. Uh. Here's the thing, though, we didn't bring
- 16:15Speaker 1: our starters. We left our stars at home. So you
- 16:17Speaker 1: guys beat our JV team two and you don't make
- 16:24Speaker 1: an excuses. It's so sad. Jeff Rutledge, have you ever
- 16:30Speaker 1: heard of Jeff Rutledge, Yeah, of course we heard of
- 16:33Speaker 1: Jeff Rutledge. Legend Jeff Rutledge. Yeah, one of the legends.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Jeff Rutledge was at that time, he was you talked
- 16:39Speaker 1: about aging players and he was I think he was
- 16:43Speaker 1: sixty one and he started for us in that game.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Sixty one years old. Just the number started for you
- 16:53Speaker 1: know what, Tony, we can't we can do a disrespect
- 16:56Speaker 1: and if a team beats, you will be a good
- 16:58Speaker 1: loser and then mint that you lost. We don't let
- 17:02Speaker 1: soul loses on this show, So goodbye. Get him off
- 17:05Speaker 1: the phone, by Stak, go shoot your pants on another
- 17:08Speaker 1: show because you've just stayed a big fucking probably pissing
- 17:14Speaker 1: his pants. He's so scared right now, run out? All right?
- 17:21Speaker 1: Is he off the line? What is it with people
- 17:23Speaker 1: are just so insecure? You know? I think it's because
- 17:27Speaker 1: they come on our show. You know they feel a
- 17:30Speaker 1: little intimidated. You know, he feels intimidated, and that's what
- 17:33Speaker 1: he's gotta do. Anyway, Again, we're not gonna let him
- 17:36Speaker 1: ruin the show because we got business to do, Tony, right, Uh,
