Speaker 1: her style, so she obviously honed her talents in college.

Speaker 1: think it has the charm of Dorjedoro, and I thought

Speaker 1: a lot of the jokes were like, not funny and

Speaker 1: not very creative. And I feel really bad about that

Speaker 1: just couldn't get into it. But maybe you can, and

Speaker 1: but that's kind of the case for almost every studio

Speaker 1: in the anime industry, so that sucks anyway. The director

Speaker 1: of Dorje Doro was Yuichudo Hayashi, and you would know

Speaker 1: him as the director of the final season of Attack

Speaker 1: on Titan. He also has done key animation for Hunter Hunter, Nanato,

Speaker 1: Code Gias, and Inuyasha and many many others. For script

Speaker 1: and series composition, we have hiro Shi Seco, which if

Speaker 1: you've been paying attention at all to me talk about

Speaker 1: script and series composition, which I haven't done that much

Speaker 1: in this podcast, you would know that hero Shei Seco

Speaker 1: is my favorite script writer. I love him so much.

Speaker 1: of Chainsawman, Mob Psyco, one hundred, Banana Fish Again, Windbreaker,

Speaker 1: which I also really love, Gatchia Kuda, Dorhidoro, Jujitsu Kaisen,

Speaker 1: and Attack on Titan. So I don't know why he

Speaker 1: gets so much work, probably because he's good, but yeah,

Speaker 1: he does a good job at translating manga scripts into anime,

Speaker 1: so yay, always happy to hear that he's there. And

Speaker 1: then we have some voice actors that'll be familiar to you,

Speaker 1: the episode to tell you who they are, because yeah,

Speaker 1: that's what you should probably do. In the US, it

Speaker 1: streamed exclusively on Netflix, which was very annoying to me

Speaker 1: at the time because I did not have Netflix. But

Speaker 1: that's pretty much it. Oh no, it's not. The big

Speaker 1: point about this and about the art and stuff is that,

Speaker 1: I guess, in an attempt to make the art and

Speaker 1: the characters work in animation, Mapa decided to use CGI

Speaker 1: for all of the characters. And part of me gets

Speaker 1: it because if you've ever seen Quay as she does manga,

Speaker 1: specifically Dora Hey Doro, you'll notice that it is an

Speaker 1: incredibly sketchy and just like kind of messy in like

Speaker 1: the coolest way possible. Like she's a really good artist,

Speaker 1: but she has like a very weird style that would

Speaker 1: be very hard to translate into animation. At least, this

Speaker 1: is what mapa thought, I assume, I think it would

Speaker 1: be super cool in animation, but it would take really

Speaker 1: really talented animators and a long time, I guess to

Speaker 1: get it to look nice. So they thought, hey, we'll

Speaker 1: just kind of make them look the way they need

Speaker 1: to look, as you know CG models, which they use

Speaker 1: most of the time. But it is a character that

Speaker 1: like has a small scene sometimes that will be traditionally animated,

Speaker 1: Like one of the characters has like a past scene,

Speaker 1: and that's all done in traditional animation, which I will

Speaker 1: talk about when I get there, because it's my favorite

Speaker 1: animated part of the entire show. But anyway, I'm not

Speaker 1: a huge fan of the way this looks. I think

Speaker 1: sometimes with computer animation there's a problem with overdoing gestures,

Speaker 1: where when you have traditional animation, they're like under animating

Speaker 1: things because we want to save as much money as possible.

Speaker 1: With computer animation, sometimes there's a tendency to overanimate in

Speaker 1: a way that people wouldn't really move in real life.

Speaker 1: And this kind of has that problem, which really detracts

Speaker 1: things from me. But hey, whatever, Sometimes you can't get

Speaker 1: what you want, but if you try, sometimes you might

Speaker 1: find that I don't know, how that goes, So let's

Speaker 1: just get to it, I guess. So Episode one is

Speaker 1: called Kimen, which you wouldn't know if you're watching this

Speaker 1: on Netflix because it just calls it episode one. It's

Speaker 1: literally said episode one dash episode one, which is super annoying.

Speaker 1: But I looked it up to make sure, and Kimon

Speaker 1: is a type of lizard, well kind of smallishish lizard.

Speaker 1: I think they're related to monitor lizards, which doesn't really

Speaker 1: help me at all, but they look like lizards, so

Speaker 1: maybe it we'll have something to do with lizards. So

Speaker 1: we start off with a black screen and something kind

Speaker 1: of like reddish like fading in, and there's like these

Speaker 1: squelching noises and a head appears to be rising up

Speaker 1: from something, and it's still really very dark, so we're

Speaker 1: not getting a good idea of what exactly is going on.

Speaker 1: And then we see this guy's head and he's wearing

Speaker 1: like a red mask over his eyes, and he's short,

Speaker 1: brown hair and multiple bleeding holes in his forehead and

Speaker 1: it kind of looks like he's in a mouth, like

Speaker 1: there's lots of sharp teeth and stuff, and he's staring

Speaker 1: at the thing that is like rising up from a

Speaker 1: throat just in abject horror, which I would be too,

Speaker 1: and we hear a voice say, Matsumura, Matsumura. We now

Speaker 1: see feet and legs dangling from something and they start

Speaker 1: to like twitch slightly, and then we get to see that, like,

Speaker 1: what's happening is that this guy's head is in the

Speaker 1: mouth of a big green lizard thing, which I assume

Speaker 1: is why the climbing thing. And by big green lizard thing,

Speaker 1: I mean like a person's size and standing up. So

Speaker 1: this guy who's Matsumura, I assume, is struggling kind of weakly,

Speaker 1: and we hear the voice again say, Matsumura, you're not

Speaker 1: really helping whoever you are. So we get a better

Speaker 1: look at this lizard now, and it's this guy, like

Speaker 1: a tall anthropomorphic lizard thing, like he's wearing a black

Speaker 1: jacket and green cargo pants and boots and like a

Speaker 1: person basically with a lizard head. And they're there's some

Speaker 1: blonde haired person in like a teal jumpsuit and she

Speaker 1: is holding a guy who is obviously trying to save Matsumura.

Speaker 1: And the guy again says matsumurda, you will recognize this

Speaker 1: voice by the way. I mean you might as I

Speaker 1: have to find it now Marcel from eighty six. Maybe

Speaker 1: this is ken Go Takanashi so yay a friendly voice

Speaker 1: from last season. Anyway, the guy who was calling Matsumura

Speaker 1: over and over again and not doing anything, but like

Speaker 1: probably can't because this person is holding him back. He

Speaker 1: has a head on that's like one of those ones

Speaker 1: that have like the earflaps. I think they're called trapper hats.

Speaker 1: Maybe I tried to look it up and a lot

Speaker 1: of people just said, you know, hats with ear flaps,

Speaker 1: that's what it's called, which was not helpful. He additionally

Speaker 1: has a red mask over his eyes, kind of like

Speaker 1: the guy in the mouth Matsumura, and he's got like

Speaker 1: a real pointy nose, just because at this point, the

Speaker 1: blonde person has their arm like around this guy's throat,

Speaker 1: and the guy is like, damn it, look go of me.

Speaker 1: He's like trying to pull away, and the blonde like

Speaker 1: knees him in the stomach and he doubles over and

Speaker 1: he's like on the ground, and we hear the guy

Speaker 1: in the mouth say fujita. The guy on the ground

Speaker 1: with the pointy nose is probably Fujita. So he looks

Speaker 1: up and Matsumura says, there's someone in here in his mouth. Yeah,

Speaker 1: this is totally normal. We see inside the mouth again

Speaker 1: and the guy is like rising up out of the

Speaker 1: throat and we can see like upped his shoulders now

Speaker 1: and he is like red marks like crosses like over

Speaker 1: his eyes, and he looks pissed. He leans forward towards

Speaker 1: Matsumura and says, you're not the one, and Matsumura is like, huh.

Speaker 1: At this point, Fujita gets to his feet and he

Speaker 1: rushes forward like screaming as you might scream when you're

Speaker 1: running for some reason, and he sticks out his pointer

Speaker 1: finger and this black like smoky you look in blob emerges.

Speaker 1: He like fires it at the lizard guy. It like

Speaker 1: hits him, and nothing happens except that the lizard guy

Speaker 1: like looks in his direction. Fujiad looks really confused and

Speaker 1: he's like, it's not working. The blonde who is a

Speaker 1: girl we finally see her face enough to know that,

Speaker 1: runs up from behind him, grabs his pointer finger between

Speaker 1: her pointer finger and her middle fingers and like bends

Speaker 1: it to the side, like breaking it. It's not pleasant.

Speaker 1: And Fujita screams because yes. The girl then spin kicks

Speaker 1: him in the head and he goes flying and lands

Speaker 1: like super hard. Then the lizard guy's like hey. The

Speaker 1: blonde girl looks over, and the lizard guy still has

Speaker 1: the guy in his mouth, and he says something, but

Speaker 1: we can't understand it because he's chomping on Matsumuna's head.

Speaker 1: The blonde sighs and she's like, what the hell did

Speaker 1: you say? Kaimen? Okay, his name's Kimen. Kimen finally spits

Speaker 1: the guy out of his mouth, who looks totally dazed

Speaker 1: because how else is he going to look? And Kimon

Speaker 1: says hey. The guy kind of snaps out of it,

Speaker 1: and Kimon's like, would the guy inside say? Masumura says, huh,

Speaker 1: I'm not the one. Kimon just kind of blinks and

Speaker 1: he's like, I see. He sighs. Okay. He takes out

Speaker 1: a knife and he holds it to Matsumota's throat, kind
15:26
Speaker 1: of leans over him and says, so you're useless. He
15:30
Speaker 1: then kind of throws the knife and flips it and
15:33
Speaker 1: catches it and then quickly, like really quickly, dices Matsumoda

Speaker 1: into multiple pieces, making him explode into a bloody mess everywhere.

Speaker 1: We get a slow motion shot of Matsumoda's head tumbling

Speaker 1: through the air, and then we see his hand, which

Speaker 1: was also cut off, and his pointer finger shoots out

Speaker 1: like a bunch of black smoke, and the smoke kind

Speaker 1: of like goes under Fujita and turns into this green thing,

Speaker 1: and Kimon gasps and he's like, Nikaido, I guess that's

Speaker 1: the girl. And it turns out that the green thing

Speaker 1: is a door and it opens and Fujita falls into

Speaker 1: wherever and then it slams shut. Kimon's like, damn it,

Speaker 1: he got away. He starts to run towards the door,

Speaker 1: which is on the ground by the way, and he's like, shit,

Speaker 1: I shouldn't let my guard down, you idiot, you moron.

Speaker 1: He has his head in his hands and the door

Speaker 1: is like smoking, and Nikaido says, hey, take it easy. Here.

Speaker 1: She holds out like a respirator like, oh, you know,

Speaker 1: gas mask to him, and Kimon's like huh. Nikoido says,

Speaker 1: but we finally got to see them generating that door.

Speaker 1: Kimon puts on the respirator and says, yeah. The smoke

Speaker 1: swirls around the door and then envelops the screen, and

Speaker 1: we go to the opening theme yay, which is called

Speaker 1: Welcome to Chaos by no Name, at least I think

Speaker 1: that's how you pronounce that, because it's got like a

Speaker 1: K that is in parentheses and then now underscore name.

Speaker 1: do all of the opening and closings for Door Heydoro. Anyway,

Speaker 1: it's a really really cool opening if you haven't seen

Speaker 1: it yet or ever. It has like lots of like

Speaker 1: really trippy colors and lots of kimens walking around and

Speaker 1: then like they fall and they explode into us paint splotches.

Speaker 1: And we go to like Nikaido, who is cooking in

Speaker 1: a very dirty kitchen and she's like cutting leaks and

Speaker 1: stir frying in a walk and there's this weird masked

Speaker 1: animal chasing a cockroach through the kitchen, which is not

Speaker 1: what you want. And then the cockroach like falls into

Speaker 1: the sink lands like swirling around in like a whirlpool,

Speaker 1: and Nikkaido like picks up a mushroom and then she

Speaker 1: like tosses it and she picks up like a really

Speaker 1: nice cut of meat and smiles, and then we see

Speaker 1: her like furiously cutting the meat like furiously and like

Speaker 1: dicing it, and I guess to the point that she's

Speaker 1: mincing it and smiling in the most terrifying way that

Speaker 1: you can smile while cutting meats. And then her like

Speaker 1: opening the gate of a shot and mixing the meat

Speaker 1: with her hands, like putting it, you know, like spices

Speaker 1: and ingredients into it, and like Kymen walking in with

Speaker 1: like lots of Kymon's and it looks like Nikido's been

Speaker 1: making gioza and there's a small Gioza man and it

Speaker 1: goes in the steamer with the other Gioza and Kimon

Speaker 1: has a giozahead and there's lots of giozahead kaymen now

Speaker 1: and they fall into paint splotches. So that's that's what

Speaker 1: the opening's like. I like went through the whole thing

Speaker 1: for you because you can hooray anyway. With the opening over,

Speaker 1: we go to the title card, which is Kymen on

Speaker 1: it's like green letters on like a dark alley background.

Speaker 1: The title disappears and we see a dark industrial looking

Speaker 1: alley and there's like a plume of smoke rising from

Speaker 1: the ground and it reveals a red door with like

Speaker 1: a white splotch on it. It's also in the air.

Speaker 1: He walks down the alley and he turns a corner

Speaker 1: and the door slowly fades into smoke. A voice, which

Speaker 1: I believe is the narrator, says, beyond that door is

Speaker 1: the world of the Sorcerers. Oh, we get a shot

Speaker 1: of that guy's back as he's walking down the street.

Speaker 1: So this looks like a pretty dystopian city. Maybe it's

Speaker 1: dusk because like the street lights are on and the

Speaker 1: sky is just gray. But like with smug Ray, and

Speaker 1: the buildings are like super tall and like super complex,

Speaker 1: and it looks kind of run down. And the narrator

Speaker 1: picks back up and he's like, they use their magic

Speaker 1: to generate doors. That's that's a weird thing to do

Speaker 1: with magic. Okay, getting a better look at the city now,

Speaker 1: this place is significantly run down and very industrial. Everything

Speaker 1: looks like it's crumbling. It kind of reminds me of

Speaker 1: what like Kowloon used to look like in China, that

Speaker 1: kind of walled city that was just completely lawless and

Speaker 1: like had all those like really scary narrow like alleys

Speaker 1: like in the buildings and shit. It's kind of where

Speaker 1: I'm wondering if this kind of idea came from. But

Speaker 1: it's I guess, significantly more industrial looking than Kowloon too,

Speaker 1: so it's just it looks oppressive, I guess. Anyway, narrator continues,

Speaker 1: they connect their world with ours down in the hole. Oh, okay,

Speaker 1: that they make doors to go through the doors. Okay.

Speaker 1: We now see a cut up chain link fence in

Speaker 1: front of a building with I think might be warning
