- 0:00SPEAKER_00: There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Shining at the end of every day.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Just a dream.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: Hello and welcome to Of Mice and Main Street Men.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: I am Tristan.
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: And I am Sean.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: And we have Brett Rutherford back with us.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Hey Brett.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Hi.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm very thrilled to be back.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like I'm very excited to be back.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm a little um, I don't know, anxious the word.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm excited.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: I well, you know, well, excuse me.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I'm excited and scared.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Um, because you know, I am a note taker, I am a prep person.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: I know you are.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: You know, and this is kind of like what do you know about Disney?
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Well, I know a lot, so I hope that works, but this is no prep whatsoever.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: But I know, you know, yes.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: So there is there is no prep at all.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna quiz these two geniuses because as everyone knows, or if you maybe not, I have only been going to the parks for about 11 years.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Uh, because I had a sad childhood, and not really, I just didn't go, but and these two have been going for a lot longer than that.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: So I have compiled some cool uh factoids, and we're gonna quiz guys.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Maybe that's what you call it, Tristan.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: The first annual quiz of Disney Genii.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Geni?
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: I think Brett and I qualify.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Well, I will I will humbly say thank you and just move on.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Well, here's the deal, guys.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: We're gonna go deep into the vault here, okay?
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: This is uh not modern Disney, this is Disney in the 1980s, well, Disney World in the 1980s.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: So here's what I'm gonna do.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna ask you guys each a question, and you're gonna buzz in with whatever buzz sound you decide, and you'll have uh after I ask the question, there'll be about 15-20 seconds for you guys to think on it and then buzz in.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Whoever buzzes in first gets a chance to answer the question.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: And then if you get it wrong, it goes to the next contestant, and you'll get a point for that.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: So there's no lifelines, there's no phones, none of that.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: No, there's not.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: Um you're gonna go with confidence without accuracy.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Um and you maybe not one to fact check in real time.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Um, so you know what?
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for you to dig deep and trust your memory.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: And remember, history doesn't care how many times you visited, it only cares if you were paying attention.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: So here we go.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: You guys ready?
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Are you ready?
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Yes, you should cross this that on a sampler, by the way.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: I should.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: All right, here we go.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Question one: in what year did Disney start to drop the center off of Epcot?
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: In what year was it officially Epcot?
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: So there's two parts of that question.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: What year did it start to phase out, and what year was it officially Epcot without the center?
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Oh boy.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: The timer has started.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: Well, infinity and beyond.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, is that your oh okay.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: That's how I buzz.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: All right, that's what your buzz is.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: I see what you're doing.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: Oh, wow, that was clever.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: So very clever.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: All right, that's how I'm buzzing.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Um, I am gonna sheer guess, which will probably mean that Mr.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Rutherford gets to steal this question.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go with since this is Disney in the 80s, open in October of 82.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say they they started phasing it out around 87 and it was gone by 89.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: That is incorrect.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: This is a trick question, too, because uh Mr.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Rutherford, do you care to try to do I get a chance?
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Strangely enough, those were wow.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: Uh so I should say, I should preface this.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: They might this the I should have thought these are 80s-centric, but sometimes the they bleed over.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: It happened to be to times to times past the the 80s, like in the second part of this question.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Uh this I this I would have gotten wrong too, because I thought it was much earlier than it was.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: It is oddly specific, Tristan.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: I told you for question number one, where are we getting?
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: I'm like, how many visitors came to the park on Tuesday?
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Some are golf balls, I will promise you.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: But some thank you.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Well, let me get my answer done so we can move on.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: I would say uh for the beginning, uh, let's see.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Can you repeat the question, please?
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, I'll repeat the question.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: So, in what year did Disney start to drop the center from its title?
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: In what year was it official?
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Like which Oh, okay.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: You can, you know what?
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: You can answer both.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: I realize this was a tough question, but I thought we'd start off with this.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, I thought, you know, oh, I thought that when it came back, because that was in more recent times, but oh um, just to answer it, I will say uh oh 1986 and uh 1987, and it came back in like 2000 uh in the 2010s.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: So this was a tough way to start, guys, and I apologize.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Uh no, really, this makes me look forward to every question we're gonna have.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, and we're gonna learn so much.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Yes, we are.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Well, that's a good thing.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm all for that.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: So the first time that the Disney company started to mention this is I'll I'll tell you the kind of history I learned on this.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: The first time Disney started to mention that they were gonna drop the center was in 1989.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, and it started to trickle off of advertising in 1993, 1994, and then it was on by 1996.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Well, good.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Well, good now.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: So it took them like four years to even think about it, really.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: Or four years to think about it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: But it was funny to me because it illustrated Disney and how long sometimes things take.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: So that took from 89 to 96 before it was yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: So there you go.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: I promise they're not all like that, but I was but I like that one.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: So now I'm in trouble for a challenge.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, what do you think?
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: So, Brett, how did it come back then?
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Basically, Brett.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: I'm curious about the how did it come back?
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, stop asking questions.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Um, it came back, yeah.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: But it came.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like going.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: I just gave you a factoid of about when it came back, just because it was time.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Just because is it are you saying that it is now?
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Disney Powers the B said it's time.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's now brand of the rebrand.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Is it now to again?
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Epcot is that oh, is it really with all capital with Epcot is all capital letters, and because that changed too, that graphic standard changed over the years too.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did read about that.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: That's I don't know.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Epcot's a fascinating.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: There's uh I learned a crazy amount of stuff that I had never I never knew doing this, so I was excited to do this.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: All right, this step then.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: What were the two major 1980s narration versions of spaceship earth?
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, to infinity and beyond.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: I'll let you both uh go ahead, Sean.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: First, no, let Brett go first.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: I've buzzed in early on both of he'll he'll have these, but all right, Brett.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Walter Cronkite and Ooh, second one.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Ooh, that's hard.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: I'll just that's hard.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: We're each gonna get a point here, Brett.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I will say Jerem, I'll say Jeremy Irons.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: No, sir, but half of that is correct, Sean?
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, Walter Cronkite and Judy Dench.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: She was later.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: She was later.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Vic Perrin, which was not a Disney person at all.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not a Disney person.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Who the hell is a celebrity?
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Non-Disney voice actor.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, it did not last long, and they replaced him with Walter Cronkite shortly after it opened.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: So there you go.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, so Walter wasn't.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Now, oh my gosh, now I'm flashing back.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I'm like going, it wasn't Walter Cronkite.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so he did the original Spaceship Earth and Universe of Energy.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: So there you go.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Okay, uh let's see here.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: So Brett got Brett got Brett got half a point.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: I'll give half a point.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: You're so generous.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Well, there's only one whole point, and you is there one point?
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I thought there were two.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, well then I guess he gets doesn't make it.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: No, there's just either way, the math works.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: One point.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:50unknown: Yes.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: I just want to make sure that you know that everything's consistent.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: So this next one, much easier.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: Uh really.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: I know, I know, I promise.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, what was the official come on, this is gonna be so easy.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: What was the official working name of Disney's Hollywood Studios during its 1980s developmental phase?
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: And what year did the uh it changed to the studios?
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: What year did that take place?
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: So what was the original name and then what year did it change?
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Ding ding.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Rutherford.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: It origin okay, it was the Disney MGM Studios.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And then when did it change to Disney Hollywood Studios?
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Uh 2014.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: That is incorrect.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Uh well it was certainly it was certainly Disney MGM Studios.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: How long was the contract?
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: It opened in '89.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say it was a 20-year contract to 09, 2009.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a good idea.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: It was very close.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: It was in 2008 when they made the change and started to phase it out.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: I probably because of the 20, I'm guessing it was a 20-year thing, so they had to do it before.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: So there you go.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: I was around for both of it.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I'm like going, I'm like going, when did I remember the merch change and all of that?
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: I'm like going.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Well, that's another happy point for Mr.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Rutherford.
- 10:24unknown: Oh well.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: I try.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: I'm done being nice.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna start buzzing in sooner.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Be go right ahead.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I'm like going.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Because Disney people can be nice and ruthless.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: No more Mr.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: Nice Genius.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: So all right.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Up next, which world showcase pavilion or pavilions?
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Good, there's multiple answers to this, were fully planned, site prepped, and never built.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: In which country did it represent?
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Now, there are several.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: There was one specific that was really ready to rock, and then several that were uh pretty much to infinity and beyond.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Yes, Mr.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: McCall.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, I will go with the one that was supposedly ready to rock was Russia.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: That is one of the answers.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: There uh are several Africa, Mr.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: That is another one.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Specifically, the title of the Africa uh pavilion, please.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: McCall, do you know the specific title?
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: I'll let yeah, I'll give you that as a bonus when you're done with your question.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Please continue.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: Africa land of safari.
- 11:30unknown: I didn't know.
- 11:31unknown: Okay.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Uh I will take Russia as as a answer.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Uh that one was not as prepped as another certain one, which Brett Rutherford has mentioned.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: Do you know the full title, Mr.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: Rutherford?
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Equatorial Africa.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: The other Israel.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna each give you guys a point for that because they were Africa, Russia, Costa Rica, and Israel.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna go ahead and and give you a both of them.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, I got a coveted half point, just like Mr.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Rutherford.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, it's not about it's not about winning, it's about having fun.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: And winning.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: He says that.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: But but who's uh who's learning things?
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: We're all learning things.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Let's keep this fun and lighthearted, but not ruthless.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: So uh this actress has her hand bring hand prints in Hollywood Studios and in Hollywood Studios only.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: Ding ding ding.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Rutherford.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: He worked there for God's sake.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: I know that might be uh she said yes.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: The cool thing is she said when she was asked, she said, I mean I would love to because I never had the opportunity to do it in Hollywood.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: That is correct, or words to that effect.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: And who was Audrey Hepburn?
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: Just making sure we said it out loud.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: That's a great factoid.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: That's such a cool one.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Uh this one's a tough one.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: I'm so sorry.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Um, what day we're learning so much.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: We are.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: What day and year?
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: You can just give me the gear.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: Did the original journey into imagination open?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: What year?
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: The the attraction or the pavilion?
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: The attraction.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: 1983, and it was March.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Do you know the date?
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Uh March.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: And what time?
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: It was uh and when did it first go down?
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: It was like, mmm, if I could look at a calendar, I would say, but I would say it was the first part of March, I'll say like March 7th.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: It was March 5th, 1983.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: Also gave you the point, though.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: You got the year and the date in the the month.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, here we go.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: McCall.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: You might know this one.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: I think.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, lucky me.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: What is the oldest attraction in the Magic Kingdom?
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Buzz Lightyear.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Um that um the oldest attraction in the Magic Kingdom, as in physically oldest in age.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Just it, it so think less about Right.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: I'm going, I'm gonna assume you're talking like the carousel.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: That is it, my my friend.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: Yes, that is it.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Wow, that's great.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: I did not know the history on that until I did look it up, and I was like, well, that's fascinating.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: It was from 1919 from Detroit.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Um, all right.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Okay, now this is something you guys should know.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: What was Epic Okay, Epicot, what a two-part question.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: What was Epicot Center's opening day in which two attractions were advertised but not operational?
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: Um to infinity and beyond.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: I was there.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: I was there literally on October 1st, 1982.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: That is correct.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: And two attractions that were advertised but were not open.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: They opened a few days later, but not.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm gonna go with because I was there and I don't well, Journey into Imagination wasn't announced, even though it opens the next year.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: It was not one of those.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Uh I will go with Universe of Energy and uh I don't know, world of motion.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: No, you did get Epcot opening day correct.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: But though the but Mr.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Rutherford prepared to uh rebuttal trot out your expertise.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Well uh Spaceship Earth Spaceship Earth had its difficulties, but I don't know if we went on it day on day one, and it might have been like day two.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: So I will say Spaceship Birth did not open.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: And okay, yeah.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Here's the there's this is a lovely factoid.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I was in the first, I was in the the first right on sunshine in uh the energy pavilion.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Uh yes, I was in the first group that were on the universe of energy.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: And wow, I don't that I know that was working.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: The other one that was not working, um gosh, I can't really.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: I'll give you both the living seas, maybe I'll give you a open yet.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, one was uh less of an attraction.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: I should have made mentioned one was a show.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: They considered an attraction on the list, but one is a show and one is a uh a boat ride to nowhere.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: To nowhere.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: Um that is one, actually.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: Oh Rio de Tiempo?
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: Uh Rio de Tempo Rio de Tiempo.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: How much, okay, little factoid.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: How much, you know, the last scene.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Um, how much did the fireworks the uh the fiber optic fireworks uh cost to make and install when it originally opened?
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, I have no idea.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: This is what I've heard.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know, it seems pretty big, but I heard a million dollars.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: That's easy.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: I know that's just what Dr.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: Evil said it.
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: I'm just like going, that's what I heard, and I'm like going, you know, all right, so Rio Rio de Tiempo.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: And there's one more spaceship earth.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I thought I went to the show.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: No, and a show, so the kitchen cabaret.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: No, sir, it was the American Adventure, which opened on October 11th.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Oh, and that's not that can't be true.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: I know that can't be true because I saw I saw the voices of liberty on day one, and I'm sure we were escorted up.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: And well, the pavilion was open, but the attraction apparently I'm sure we saw the show because my mom wrote about it in the article she wrote about opening day weekend.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Well, let me check the American Gardens Theater, because there wasn't that show wasn't going yet.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: Let's see here.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: I think according to see according to this, it does say October 11th, but if you gentlemen were there, we were there.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: I was I know we didn't stay 11 days, and I know we saw that show.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I'm like going.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: Because my mom wrote about it in her article.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: Well, let's find out here.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: We both get points.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: I think I'm gonna both give you points, but I'm kind of curious now.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: Let me see here.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: October 11th.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: Maybe we saw it and then it broke down and they kept it down until the 10th.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: Well, now I'm kind of curious.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: We wait all.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Well, now, so here's here's something interesting, too.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: So this is where I'm wondering.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: So I went back to one of my sources and I'm just kind of tracing back.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: This is kind of cool.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: The American Adventure Pavilion in Epcot was officially dedicated on October 11th, 1982.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: That I believe.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: Because I could have I could we we could have ridden the attraction before it was dedicated.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: It was just a free and independent thing, but yeah.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: What are the original sponsors of the American?
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: Coca-Cola and American Express.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: And American Express.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, nice.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: That's so wild.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: 1,027 seats in the theater, something like that.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Wow, you're just trying to get bonus points.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: So the only know how many bricks were in the facade, but I can't remember that.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: You want to know something wild?
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: So the only place that has this opening on October 1st is Wikipedia.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Every other site that I have looked at has it as opening day as October 11th.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: Well, they you know, they might reference that as opening day, but but we I went fascinating.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm looking at things now too.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: About about one o'clock in the afternoon.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: What time were you there?
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: Me?
- 20:30unknown: Yeah.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: I went on uh because my mom had the oh that's right.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: You went early.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: So I went on the walkthrough pre-opening, where we like passed Jay Jane uh uh what's her name?
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: Uh Bryant Gumble and Jane Pauly.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Jane Pauly.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah were doing a today show broadcast over like on the little Italy Bridge.
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 20:57SPEAKER_03: So we did the walkthrough, then we saw the opening ceremony.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: Well, and we actually went over the night before, and I did Living with the Land.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: We went to the Lands Pavilion the night before.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: If we're learning anything today, the internet lies.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: Um I think you knew that before we started today's.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Honestly, should have gone to Wikipedia rather than like all of these histor history sites and everything else.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: Um, but you never know.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Anyway, all right, here we go.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Let's see how wrong I am on this question.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Hardly.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Now we're we're not, yeah, we're we're we're not upset.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: We're just making we're learning.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: We're all right.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: I didn't think I could trust Wikipedia over some of the websites that I've always trusted, but here we are.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Uh the short l this short lived parade ran from May 1984 to December 1984 and celebrated a certain character's 50th birthday.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Ding ding ding ding ding.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Donald Duck.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Duck.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: Like he deserved his own parade.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Were you in?
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: That parade?
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you might have been.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: I thought about that when I saw it.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: Aww.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: You want to hear the music?
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: No, I'm like going.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: The music was really fun.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: So, you know, my babysitter told me anyway.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: So all right.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Up next.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: This attraction had three different endings, including including Mesa Verde.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: I'm buzzing in on this one.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: Stop your raising the hand.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: The listeners can't hear that.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: I did the ding ding.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I did ding ding ding.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be gracious again.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Oh ladies.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: Horizons.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: That is correct.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Interesting fact about horizons.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: I was on the I was on the uh Epcot Monorail one time in 1927 when and we were and and live uh and horizons was being built, and as we are going around the corner, one of the workers was, shall we say, sliding down that metal, the the roof, you know.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Wow, and we and the monorail passes, and I'm sure he was fine, but intentionally, do we think?
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: No, it looked like there was an accident, but as we're just you know, just tourists, you know, going around the corner, and there he is sliding down, you know, that very you always have yikes anyway, very random.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: No one ever asked that, but I'm like going, I just sharing information that I have I love it when you share your factoys.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: I have no all right, gentlemen.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: This Epcot boat ride had live narration and went by a different name.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: Uh to Infinity and Beyond.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, now Brett's just being kind.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: It was known as Listen to the Land.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: And it was yeah, and used to have live narrators.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: And it was great.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: I'm like, and Brett, and Brett and I can probably both sing you the song.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, we can't.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: Are you ready, Brett?
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: Go just make me leave you're a tiny little seed.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: A tiny little seed that's reaching up.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: Me too with the right amount of faith, food, and faith and the right amount of earth.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: You grow to see the sunshine on your day of birth.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: Let's listen to the land in the land we all love.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Okay, nature's plan will shine above.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Listen to listen to the land.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: No copyright infringement need or it is so catchy, though.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: There's that guy that did a new cover of it on right now.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: There's all there, it's in the D Capella medley, too, of Epcot stuff.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: It's pretty cool.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: All right, one of my favorites, of course.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Um, this is okay.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: So up next, oh come on, this is a great one.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Next time we'll harmonize.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: What do you say?
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: I love the new like it's it's you know, it's it's zoom, so it's like has a it's like a nice reverb.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: It's kind of nice.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Um all right.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: The robins in this attraction are said to be from which popular Disney film, what is the attraction and the film?
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: To infinity and beyond.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, Mr.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: McCall.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: Uh it's oh.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: I I must isn't it the land and Mary Poppins?
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: You got Mary Poppins.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Would you like the other half?
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: Yes, please, Mr.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Rutherford.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, it's Tristan, so it's the carousel of progress.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, right.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Dang it.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: I knew that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so we get half a point each.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: We do get half a point each.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: How about that?
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: All right, up next, gentlemen.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: James Cagney wore a certain suit in this in the great movie, right?
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: What was significant about it?
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: Cagney had actually worn it.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: That is correct, Mr.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: McCall.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, I got a Hollywood Studios question that Brett didn't know.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: I think I might have known that.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: I think you did.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: I think you're being kind.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: No, I'm I'm like, oh, it just didn't come to me as quickly as it did to you.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: It's a groom story, though.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Up next.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: This deluxe res uh Disney Resort opened in June of 1988 and was a whopping$125 to$300 a night.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Ding ding ding.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: Yes, ding, ding.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: The Grand Floridian.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: That is the Grand Floridian resort.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: That was my favorite thing there.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: It opened with a whopping$300 a night.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: And I was like, yeah, you can't even stay at an all-star for that now.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Um now, now the travel agents.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: The travel agents here would remind you that that is not true, Tristan.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Depending on the year, time of year, and when you're going and all of those things.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: But um, so um it was Dick Nunes' who was head of parks, I think at that time, at least Walt Disney.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: I think it parks all parks by then.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: And it was his baby.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: So he wanted to have because that oh, what was that?
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: That land was originally uh I guess plotted out to be uh the the place for what hotel.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, it was Middle Eastern themed, wasn't it?
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Was it Middle Eastern that or I think that no, I think that one that one was China, that one was China because it was like oh that was the Asian, okay.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then yeah, so interesting.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, okay, gosh, okay, okay.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Picture if you will, picture if you will, the uh, you know, the the bird cage elevator, yes, you know, yeah, okay, and um, you know, the kind of the painted topiaries that are um outside the the landing on the second floor.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: I was there when they painted them.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: I walked by and watched them as they were painting those little, yeah.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: All right, gentlemen.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Crazy, crazy.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Just I am just submit, you know, imagine if you will, you know.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: I I love your imagine if you will.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: And anytime you want to tell us a story, Brett, thank you.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: On on the universe of energy, what popular game show did Alan conquer?
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Ding ding ding.
- 28:32unknown: Mr.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: Rutherford Jeopardy.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: Jeopardy, that is correct.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: This now very popular parade and party made its debut in Magic Kingdom in December of 1983.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: Uh to Infinity and Beyond.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, Mr.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: McCall.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: In December of 1983, he said.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: That must be Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Or Mickey's Very Merry Christmas parade at that point.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: I guess still today.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: And that was the first time it was on the TV in 1983.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: Imagine.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: How quaint.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: I'm guessing you were there, Mr.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: How dare you.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: How dare you?
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: Did you see any hippos?
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: I keep those.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I keep those dates highly vague for personal and private reasons.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: I'm sure there were Christmassy hippos dancing down the street.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: There were not Christmassy hippos, but you know.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: Well, what was that's true?
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: That's a good band.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: That's a good band name, Tristan.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Christmassy hippos.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Christmassy hippos.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: What were you dancing down the street as at that time?
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: Just you were movie dancing.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Let's just say, I remember watching on television.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Yourself?
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: I remember back when there were only four.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Watching on television, uh, let's see, the the um the Robin Hood unit, and um and I remembered watching uh the the the elephants.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Okay, the one person elephant.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: The one person elephant.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: Now we really narrowed it down.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Well, it's you know, the scene in well, the scene in um, you know, da da da da da you know, that scene from the film that there might have been a recreation of that okay national TV first time live from uh from Walt Disney World on Christmas Day.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, now we know secrets because I watched it on TV.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Well, I participated in that experience.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Remember, I have to keep this vague.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: I know you're very secretive.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Perhaps post I will share more.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I don't think there's more to share.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: I uh your vagueness is is the mysteriousness is charming.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: The mysterious you know, people are at some point are gonna go, oh my gosh, how old is he?
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: You have a beautiful head of hair, they won't ever know.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: Uh the so okay, here we go.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: The Western River Expedition eventually became this popular coaster in Magic Kingdom.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Ding ding ding.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Uh Big Thunder Mountain.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: That is correct.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Just reopened and then broke down because of a fire.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Oops.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Whoopsie.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Oops.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: We did it again.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: But it's back open on today, I believe.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: I think there was only a 45-minute wait today when I looked.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Not that I look often, but I did.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, I look all the time.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I it wasn't long as long as I thought it would be.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: I was like, okay.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: Okay, Mr.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: McCall, listen carefully.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: This popular animatronic show in Magic Kingdom was given a holiday overlay in 1984.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: What was the attraction and what was the overlay?
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: Uh to Infinity and Beyond.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Yes, Mr.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: McCall.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: And it was the uh Country Bear Jamboree and uh the Country Bear Christmas Howdown?
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: No, it was a vacation hoedown, I think.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was the figure.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: It is the country bears, correct?
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: It is a country bear jamboree, yeah.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: It's country bears.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Vacation hoe no, you said vacation hoedown, right?
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Christmas jamboree?
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Christmas vacation hoedown.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: It's just Christmas special, but I'll give it to you.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Well, great.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: That one is that one was glorious.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: It is the best, you know.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: The current version now, pretty good, you know.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I like it.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, jamboree, you know, some, you know, yeah, that one was a good one too.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: But you can if you're well, you can watch it.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: It is on YouTube because they still do the overlay in Japan at Tokyo, but then you have to to really get it, you have to, you know, sing Japanese.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: It was so good.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: That was just my favorite thing.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: I will apologize in advance about this one, but I promise the next couple are easy.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: Which 1980s Epcot attraction closed in early 2007 and later that same year reopened under a different name.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: To infinity and beyond, Mr.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: McCall.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: I will say Maelstrom and Frozen Never After.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: No, Frozen did not come out until 2014.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: Oh they were very premonition.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: All right, Brent.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: The year on that.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: It was a trick question because you could have so which Epcut night, which Epcut attraction from the 80s closed in early 2007, and later that same year reopened under a different name.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Dare I say journey into imagination and then the other.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Okay, yes, Mr.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: McCall.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Uh I will go with world of motion and test track.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: No, it's actually El Rio del Tiempo.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, Rio del Rio del Tiempo.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: And then Gran Fiesta Tour open that later.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: That's the one.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: Well, that makes sense.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: Look at all we're learning.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: I know, isn't that nice?
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Like going.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: The last three here.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Mealtime Blues was a popular song that kicked off this classic Epcot.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: Ding ding-ding.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Yes, what's McCall?
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Yes, Brett Dinged first.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: That was so that was just that whole hosted by Bonnie Appetite.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: Bonnie Appetite.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: That was so good.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: I really, okay.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: I'm going to get my little soapbox for a moment.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Because I'm like going.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: So when Kraft, you know, no longer sponsored, Nestle came in and like going, here's five dollars.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Make food rocks.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: It was nowhere near the same.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: The first one was so clever.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: The music, the cute or you know, the the background music in the in the pre-show area, so amazing.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: You know, it was all art deco.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: That was just the best show.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, this is interesting.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: You know, as far as merch, well, interesting to me.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, as far as merchandise, as far as merch, as far as merchandise, you know, there um there were there were kitchen magnets that were the characters from the you know, kitchen cabaret, including, I think, anyway, um, well, it was the band, the veggie fruit fruit band.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: You know, so at some point they live, you know, very proudly.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: The colander, the colander five.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Oh wow.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: Oh well, see, I don't know.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: That was great.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: I think they were.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: I think they were the colander five.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm like going, they were they they lived proudly on the on the refrigerator for years and years and years, and then they were uh they were moved to a place of lesser nor notoriety.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: But um a couple of years ago, when I went out to the uh to the Walt Disney Studios and did the tour, the D23 official tour, and was at the uh the archives there, you know, they showcase, you know, um merchandise from time to time, and there it was.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: I'm like going, if it's good enough for the the Disney archives there, it is good enough for my refrigerator.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: So they are back on the refrigerator.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: I have uh I did some reading on this, but yes, the food rocks thing seems less uh impressive than the kitchen cabaret for sure.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, yep, that is a bug.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: But a lot of people, that is their you know, experience with that.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: But you know, go old school.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: I'm like going, are there YouTube videos about of quality?
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: So yes, I I think there are.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: There are there are Kristen and I sometimes refer to ourselves as the ham and eggs of podcasts.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: Well, yes, absolutely.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: That is so, you know, dah da.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Uh all right.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: So next question ties into that one a little bit.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, that show was replaced by Food Rocks, but superstar was offered the role of Tina Tuna, but declined the offer.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: Uh to Infinity and Beyond.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: Yes, Mr.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: McCullough.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: I believe it was it was Cher.
- 37:28SPEAKER_03: No.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: No.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh, Tina Turner would be offered Tina Tuna.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: I'll let you correct yourself on that.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, yeah, Tina Tuna.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: But she was like, oh, I'm good.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Didn didn't have the vision, I guess.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Or she couldn't see it.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Um any stories about that one?
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Any any further food rock soapboxes?
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: Are you okay?
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: The day you were standing in the hall and Tina Turner stormed out of the studio because she had just learned that her character was gonna be Tuna Tina.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: What?
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: And a piece of fish?
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: He's an impression, too.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Um, all right.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: Are you ready for this last one?
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: Oh boy.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: The tough one, guys.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: This is a tough one.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: This popular snack stand opened in 1980s, but did not start serving a corn dog until 2013.
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: Uh to infinity and beyond.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go with the liberty uh with uh uh oh man.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Um the uh sleepy hollow refreshment stand.
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: Sleepy hollow refreshment stand.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: I did I uh I kind of went through like a little bit of history lesson on that too.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: I didn't like their menu has changed so many times over the years, too.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, one of the best things they ever served prior to the corndog, Tristan, and I think I've talked about it before, was two giant warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: Ice cream, it was Nestle Tollhouse.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was the name of the place, was the or as Phoebe would say, Nestle Tollhouse Tolo's Toloz, Toloz there because you fellas, we'll get on a little bit of a tangent here for a minute, but because you guys, you know, you've been going for so long, even though you're young men, you've been going since the since dirt was new, yes.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: I remember dirt when it was new, which you play for.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, all of those parks have had, especially Epcot and Magic Kingdom, they've all like seen such a transformation, but which one in your eyes has seen like the biggest transformation since that time?
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Brett.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: I think um Epcot, you know, that it was the whole idea behind Epcot was a uh was infotainment and it was a way to learn about things, and yet uh because you really did learn about things at the beginning, you know, and uh it was it was basically a permanent um world's fair, and uh it was a permanent world's fair that um you know highlighted countries and then also the new newest, latest, greatest in technology, and I loved all of that.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: And then that wasn't good enough for the people, and the people required roller coasters, and then everything was ruined.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: So I'm like going, I'm like going, you know, I was actually gonna I do I do understand where Brett is coming from.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: I truly do.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: I was actually gonna say Magic Kingdom just from the standpoint when you when you were talking about like how things have changed, and when I think back to the tomorrow land of like the 70s that had the two tall towers on either side of the entryway with the water cascading down, and you know, just how all of that stuff has changed over the years, and how new fantasy land came apart, you know, became a a thing, and and now even you know, looking forward at like villains land and stuff, it's like I but I I but I completely defer to our guests who who clearly is horrified by the evolution of Epcot.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: It's okay, you know.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: I'm just like they now have a bar.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: But when when you could learn things, it was so wonderful.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: I learned which whiskey I'm like I learned which whiskey I liked best at Epcot recently at the GO82.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Um is it going is there something that's like you know, on it like on its way that has you excited?
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm kind of curious about piston peak myself, but like you know, what have you got looking forward to?
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: I'm like going.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, every yeah, I say everyone, I can't make it such a generalization.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Let's just say those that those Disney fans that get terribly upset when one of their quote-unquote, I'm using air quotes now, um, beloved attractions goes away in and to make room for something new.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: My guess is Disney doing its due diligence and research and everything that it does.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: If people were going to them, they'd still be there.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: So, you know, so that's so I'm looking forward to everything that is new in in Magic Kingdom.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: So, which I you know that's another thing too.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: I'm like going over the years, we dropped the we dropped the article because it was the Magic Kingdom, and now it's just Magic Kingdom.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: So it was too hard for the people to say.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: The people didn't want to say the article of introduction because it is not, yeah.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Anyway, so so yeah, I like you know, I can't wait to see that in Villains Land.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean we hear little bits, you know, drips and drabs, you know.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, we're going to have villains land, and then Josh Tomorrow says, No, we're going to have a bigger, better, you know.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: So that'll be interesting.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like going, and apparently there is some sort of construction in the um, and I don't think anything has been announced, but you know, the idea of a um hotel structure that is adjacent to a to Magic Kingdom would be kind of cool.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: So I don't know why they wouldn't do that.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: It's uh yeah, anyway.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Those those whisper forward to there's a lot of whispers out there.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: There's a whisper about a haunted mansions refurbishment right now.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: They're trying, there's some talk that the one side is they're gonna kind of make it look a little more uh to my whole piston peak situation.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: And I was like, how in the hell are you gonna do that?
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: Because I don't even know how.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Like I get it, but like I I uh I'm hoping that that's not true.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: But there's uh that bio reconstruction.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: I'm like going well, back to Disney history.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Let's just say the whole idea of placemaking went entirely away when um when they built the dolphin and the swan, because uh the eyesore from i4 before uh before before they built uh the dolphin and the swan, which was was a way to placate the Tishman company um in order to avoid very nasty lawsuits.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: And anyway, so they built those and then um sight lines went away.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: So anyway, but so anyway, so back to your answer.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Don't mess with what's great, make sure that it's better if you're gonna do something.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: Well, ms Mr.
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: Rutherford, thanks for joining us.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: And uh for those folks that don't know, where can they listen to you?

- 46:04SPEAKER_03: I was.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: I was keeping score.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: How how embarrassingly did I know?
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: I was here one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Carry the one.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Actually, you know what?
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: Uh it you it's uh Brett had ten, Mr.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: McCall had nine.
- 46:25SPEAKER_03: Yay! All right, that's a respectable showing in our guest one.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: My mother would be so pleased.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: That's not not bad at all.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: Not bad at all.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was fun.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: Umks for doing this, fellas.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: It was this was a good time.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: We'll have to do this again.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: It was very fun.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: And you know what?
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: Don't believe everything you read.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Most everything checked out except for a few things.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know what?
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: There was some discrepancies here and there.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: Brett and I stood in solidarity that we had experienced.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: We were there.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: We were there.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: But yeah, but thank you all.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, thank you out there for to everybody that's listening.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: And uh, well, as we say on our show, bye you first of all, bye you, friends.
