- 2:42change in the programming at the top of the show originally and if you go
- 2:46on social media, no, I do a little preview of the show.
- 2:50I already had that set up. Debbie Dewisz, who's a candidate for House
- 2:53as a republic in a district nineteen which covers in Putnam County. She was
- 2:57scheduled to be on the show today. Debbie's feeling pretty under the weather.
- 3:00I actually talked to her yesterday about the appearance today and she said that she
- 3:05didn't know whether she'd be able to be in studio or not. And I
- 3:07told her, I said, well, look, if you need to call
- 3:08in, that's fine. And then this morning got word from her that she's
- 3:13really sick as far as like fever, and that's kind of thing. So
- 3:15we certainly hope that that she feels better soon. Get well soon, missus,
- 3:20Debbie, and we'll try try being the keyword to get you on again
- 3:24between now an election day. It could be difficult because you know, if
- 3:30you've been listening to how the schedule is, I mean every pretty much every
- 3:32slot between now and the time the polls close on Tuesday night has been taken.
- 3:37But I will try my best to get Debbie Dewee's House candidate Republican and
- 3:40District nineteen rescheduled for an appearance on the show. If not, I apologize,
- 3:45But she got plenty of information out there. You can check her out
- 3:47online again, and we do. The bottom line is, though regardless of
- 3:52politics, we do hope that Debbie is feeling better, but we will do.
- 3:55We do have Chris Print, we do have Sarah Drennan, and we
- 3:58also have Chad Smart coming up on the show as well. It gives me
- 4:02time to talk about a couple of items in the news. After after forty
- 4:06three years, Park Place Cinemas is no more, the owners making that announcement
- 4:14on social media yesterday. So sorry, Ryan, no more all you can
- 4:17eat popcorn or all you can drink sodas. He's not doing well. My
- 4:25producers not this morning. But with all due respect, I'll be honest,
- 4:30I'm surprised that it lasted as long as it as long as it did,
- 4:33and that's not a reflection on the owner's by any stretching the imagination. It
- 4:38all comes down to economics in the theater business. And I have a very
- 4:43very good friend that owns several theaters in southern West Virginia and it's very difficult
- 4:49the last couple of years, you know, from COVID to just not being
- 4:56able to keep up with all the renovations that it require to stay competitive.
- 5:00Plus you know, the movie industry itself has changed. I mean, there's
- 5:04so many things that go directly to streaming services. Now it's just not the
- 5:09same business that it used to be. And the theater has been in the
- 5:15same family, the Hymend family, for sixty five years. The good news
- 5:19is, though, if there's any good news in all this, it may
- 5:21not be dead forever. There is some talk that some new folks could could,
- 5:29being the keyword, take it over, which would be which would be
- 5:31great if that happens. And a lot of theaters around America have kind of
- 5:35repurposed themselves instead of going from first run theaters that have to charge whatever movie
- 5:43tickets are. You tell how often I go to the movies, but fifteen
- 5:45twenty you know, dollars whatever, and you know it's quite expensive. Many
- 5:49are repurposing themselves to do other types of performances, such as you know,
- 5:56cult classics. You know, this past week and the whole country was crazy
- 5:59or over Star Wars because May the fourth, and I was all hands of
- 6:01festivals and things in this area. There's been movie theaters that have done that
- 6:06sort of thing, you know, doing the fiftieth anniversary of this movie or
- 6:11seventy fifth of that movie or whatever. So so maybe somebody could take it
- 6:15over and put the needed money into it to be able to make a go
- 6:20of it. Who knows, because it would be great. Now. The
- 6:24Good One administration out with the statement basically saying pretty much what I just said.
- 6:31And I'll say this, I think that if someone does take it over,
- 6:35business will will pick up. And reason is the Capital Sports Center.
- 6:43I mean, you have a competition at eight o'clock on Thursday morning. You're
- 6:47a family, bring a kid in for competition eight o'clock on Thursday night,
- 6:51my morning, let's say Thursday night. You don't have anything for the family
- 6:55to do until they play again at at ten am Saturday morning. So so
- 6:59what do you gonna do? You're gonna be looking for something to do,
- 7:01and whether that's going to the movies or whatever, it could be a good
- 7:05investment for someone who has the money to put into it. It was another
- 7:12hit to Charleston though, with chop House, Tide, water Bridge Road Bistro,
- 7:20the Cinema. Uh And there continues to be rumors out there that Starbucks
- 7:27at the Town Center will will be closing. I haven't heard any deafendone on
- 7:30that, but that seems to be a hot rumor out there. But I'm
- 7:34gonna say this. This is a davitorium despite what the critics say, and
- 7:42at times I have been one of those critics. Zero with these announcements and
- 7:49the hand ringing that's going on over downtown. Zero this can be blamed on
- 7:53the Goodwin administration. Sorry, amy haters, this ain't it. I am
- 8:01convinced that the business model of the whole group, the owners of the town
- 8:07Center, is to eliminate as many businesses as possible from said town Center.
- 8:13I don't completely understand it, but if you do some research on the other
- 8:18properties that they own across the country, that's pretty much been their business plan.
- 8:24For some reason, management on behalf of the whole group is the reason
- 8:28for the closures of Tidewater and chop House. And if Starbucks does close,
- 8:35which again rumored, and I'm not I'm not breaking any ground here. I
- 8:41mean this is all over social media. By the way, I don't want
- 8:43to be accused of that. This has been all over social social media.
- 8:46If it closes, and it's going to be squarely on this group that owns
- 8:48them all. Now you know, obviously Bridge Road was a completely different story.
- 8:54That was a decision by the owners and under Sandy call said on this
- 8:58very show last week that it was solely on them and it was a conscious
- 9:03decision that they were making the cinema pretty much the same thing. And by
- 9:09the way, thanks to my good friend, tip to him, Tony the
- 9:13Taylor. The city of Cincinnati is also losing theaters. The city of Cincinnati
- 9:20has lost three downtown theaters in five months. So let's blame may or a
- 9:26good one for that too, you know. But if you need some good
- 9:30news on your Wednesday, Stella's on Haile Street, the Old Blossom Dairy Company
- 9:35building begins. There's summer hours today. They'll be serving up gelato and I
- 9:41love me some gelato, and they're going to be open I think Wednesday through

- 14:54Chris Pritt joins us. Now, how are you, sir? I'm doing
- 14:56great, very busy. It's a very busy time of the year, especially
- 15:00when you're running for office, but it's a lot of fun. Talk about
- 15:03the campaign. How's it been, Oh, it's been great. We've been
- 15:05hitting lots and lots of doors. Me and my team and volunteers, We've
- 15:09hit thousands and thousands of doors. We've gotten a great response, and I
- 15:13think our message is resonating with the people out there. And what is that
- 15:16message group? The message is this, when it comes to the West Virginia
- 15:22Legislature, we need to move in a more conservative direction. That was the
- 15:24primary reason that I started my campaign to run for the state Senate, is
- 15:30that I thought that the legislature, in particular the West Virginia State Senate,
- 15:33routinely undermines conservative values, routinely waters down bills, and these are amendments that
- 15:43are oftentimes inconsistent with what the people want. I mean, West Virginia is
- 15:48one of the most, if not the most conservative state in the entire country,
- 15:52and I think the laws that we pass in the West Virginia Legislature should
- 15:56reflect that. You say water down. Give an exactample of one of those,
- 16:00well, one of those for example, I'll use this as an example.
- 16:03We had a bill that banned kids from getting any kind of procedures when
- 16:08it comes to transitioning supposedly from being a boy to a girl, and a
- 16:11girl to a boy, and so forth. It's been on the news.
- 16:15It's a hot topic, as you've seen out on the campaign trail. But
- 16:18it's an important topic, and I'll just use that as an example. The
- 16:22House passed a bill that I supported, got rid of all procedures, okay,
- 16:27any kind of procedures to have a boy transition to a girl, a
- 16:30girl transition to a boy. Supposedly, obviously you can't change sex and or
- 16:37gender or anything like that. But that's what the bill did, and I
- 16:40think it was a very very solid bill. When that bill got over to
- 16:42the West Virginia Senate, they changed it, Dave. They changed it to
- 16:47allow kids to get puberty blockers and these hormones that I think are devastating to
- 16:52these young people. And we're not talking about adults. We're not talking about
- 16:56trying to change what an adult does, consenting adult who's over let's say,
- 17:00over the age of twenty one. We're talking about kids. And the Senate
- 17:03changed that bill, and one of the things that was in that bill is
- 17:07to allow these these hormones and puberity blockers to be allowed, which I think
- 17:11is unacceptable. That was one of the primary reasons I decided to run Eric
- 17:15Nelson my opponent voted it in support of that amendment, and I think that
- 17:19was something that is not consistent with the West Virginia values that the people expect
- 17:25in the legislature. Talking with Dell A Good Chris Pratt, who was a
- 17:26candidate down for State Senate, Chris, you've served in the House, considered
- 17:30running for Secretary of State at one time, and now you have decided to
- 17:33run for the state the state Senate. You explained a little bit of one
- 17:40of the reasons why you wanted to make the run from one house, from
- 17:42the House to the to the Senate. Are there any any other particulars that
- 17:47because I know a lot had to go into that decision. That's a big
- 17:48decision to make. I mean people people have not been around the capitol may
- 17:52think, well, it's the legislature. There's a big difference between the two.
- 17:56There absolutely is. I mean, certainly, when you're in the legislature,
- 18:00and in particular the West Virginia Senate, you can have a lot more
- 18:02influence. You're representing a lot more people. I think over in the state
- 18:04Senate, I think that things are able to get on the agenda a little
- 18:11bit easier. I mean, we're talking about thirty four people versus one hundred
- 18:14people, and so based on the lesser number of people, I think it
- 18:18is a little bit easier to get things done and accomplished. And I think
- 18:22that's one of the reasons why I made that move is I thought that in
- 18:26addition to the Senate not being as conservative as the House and wanting to move
- 18:32the Senate in a more conservative direction, I think also just having the ability
- 18:36to have more of an impact on legislation. You have stated that you think
- 18:42and this is not arguing on my part, it's just you stated that you
- 18:45think that you'd like to see the legislature be more conservative than it already is.
- 18:51Yes, there are those, as you mentioned, that would say it's
- 18:53conservative enough, but it's still not enough for you, is what you're saying.
- 18:56Right, I think that's the case. I think that the will of
- 19:00the people in West Virginia needs to be reflected in our legislation. Like for
- 19:04example, let's take the issue of the bill that was put forth to stop
- 19:10boys from competing in girls sports. Forty four percent of the state Senate,
- 19:14including five Republican state senators, including my opponent, voted against that important legislation.
- 19:18I mean, we've got people in the legislature sitting there right now,
- 19:22Republicans who, including my opponent, who have voted for tax increases. Back
- 19:27in the twenty seventeen time range, we had a bill that came up that
- 19:32increased the gas tax. To me, that's unacceptable. There's no reason why
- 19:36we should ever be voting for tax increases. And at some point in time,
- 19:40Dave, it could be in one two years down the road, we
- 19:44are not going to be having the budget surpluses that we have right now.
- 19:47I mean, with these budget surpluses that we have are historic and they're a
- 19:51good thing, but those don't last forever. And at some point we're going
- 19:55to be in a budget crunch and we need people down there that are going
- 19:59to say no, under no circumstances, am I going to support a tax
- 20:03increase. To me, that's one of those fundamental basic things about being a
- 20:07conservative Republican is opposing all tax increases. That's what voters can account on when
- 20:11it comes to me. Chris Prett is here. He's a candidate for state
- 20:15Senate, currently serving in the House. Wants to be a state senator.

- 20:45of Delegates member, But for people that may be hearing you for the first
- 20:48time, give us the bio on Chris Print. Sure thing. Well,
- 20:52my wife and I have a small law practice here in Charleston. We do
- 20:55a lot of estate planning, We do some family court, we do some
- 20:57real estate work. We have been an operation for over seventeen years. We
- 21:02have two kids. My oldest boy, Jackson, is thirteen, and my
- 21:06youngest, Owen is six, and we're right here in the Kanaal Valley.
- 21:11We've been involved in our community. We've been involved in our church. We've
- 21:15been attempting to just raise two good kids that are have the Christian values that
- 21:22we grew up with. And yeah, that's what we're doing right now.
- 21:26And we're just two regular people out there trying to make a difference. Talk
- 21:32about the district. What areas does the district cover? Okay, the district
- 21:37covers over by essentially a Sissonville area, the Elkview area north of the river
- 21:44in eastern Kanaw County, Kanah City, South Hills, South Charleston, and
- 21:48Saint Albans, and then some of the more rural areas a little bit south
- 21:52of those areas. So it is a very diverse district as far as I
- 21:56mean, we don't think in West Virginia. We don't think of things being
- 22:00because the whole state is rural. But I mean, relatively speaking by West
- 22:03Virginia standards, you've got some different area because you said you've got some more
- 22:07rural areas, but you've got some more urban type areas as well. That's
- 22:11right. Absolutely, it is a very diverse area compared to other parts parts
- 22:15of the state. I think that's a good thing. But I think the
- 22:17people of the district are very much similar to the rest of the state when
- 22:21it comes to conservative values and the values that I think all West Virginians hold.
- 22:26Dear, what do you see as the biggest needs of the district.
- 22:30We talked about the diversification as far I mean with the diversity as far as
- 22:34how it's kind of different with some of the things Saint Albans are facing may
- 22:38not be the same as what Elkview is facing. But what do you see
- 22:41is the biggest needs? I think more economic development and more economic growth.
- 22:45I mean, one of the things that we've seen in recent years, Dave,
- 22:48is a population lost in Kanaal County. We've got to put a stop
- 22:52to that. I mean, many of the folks that have been involved in
- 22:56politics for a number of years, they have been running things while that has
- 23:02happened, and I think that's something that we have to change. We have
- 23:06to get back to economic development, and I think we need more bold action
- 23:10when it comes to the legislature. I think we need to be more aggressive
- 23:11when it comes to getting rid of the state income tax. I mean,
- 23:15I think we can do some things that are bold that can move the Kanaal
- 23:21Valley forward. And we need to be focusing on how to maximize economic development
- 23:26for the Kanaal Valley, and I think we do that through tax cuts.
- 23:30I think we do that through more job training and emphasis on community colleges,
- 23:34having a relationship between our community college system and our college system and the businesses
- 23:41that are out there. Because look, there's been a lot of emphasis on
- 23:44bringing new jobs into the state, and I think that's great. But at
- 23:48the same time, while we also see a lot of new jobs coming in,
- 23:52we see places like our businesses like Alleghany wood products that are going out
- 23:57of business or other businesses that are leaving the state, and so and I
- 24:02think it's great that we focus on bringing new jobs in, but look,
- 24:04we have a great resource here. We have existing businesses that compete globally right
- 24:10here in the Kanal Valley doing the things we need to do to help them
- 24:12compete and help them grow. I mean, I think it's it's a win
- 24:15win for the people here in the Kanaal Valley, and I think it's a
- 24:19win win for the state as a whole. You talked about your campaign a
- 24:23little bit, and so let's let's kind of focus on that. What's your
- 24:27campaign style? Are you are are you going door to door are you sign
- 24:30wave in? And and what what? What is your style? We do
- 24:34a lot of door to door. I like contacting bods. What are you
- 24:37say when you go knock on somebody's door? All right, and they come
- 24:41to the door, uh huh? And I would ask them what they're cooking?
- 24:44But that's just me. But but they come to the door, what
- 24:47do you What do you say to them? And what more importantly, Chris,
- 24:51what do they say to you? Well, one of the things that
- 24:53I do when I come to the door is I certainly introduced myself. How
- 24:56I say hello, my name is Chris Pritt. I'm running for the West
- 25:00Virginia State Senate and and I try to get an idea as to what issues
- 25:04are important to them. I think that's very very important for elected individuals to
- 25:08have a feel for what the needs are in the community. I ask them
- 25:14what issues are important to you? And I started that off and a lot
- 25:18of times they'll they'll give me an earful about what issues are important to them.
- 25:22They will talk about the needs and their community, the needs for their
- 25:26family, problems that they see. And I think it's important that we talk
- 25:30to people about that. And I just open it for them to discuss with
- 25:33me what they see as the main issues. Now. A lot of times
- 25:37people are Last night I was talking to I showed up to a few doors
- 25:41and it was around dinner time, and they said, well, I don't
- 25:42have time to talk and you know, I'm cooking dinner, and but it
- 25:47was nice to meet you and I and I just let them be and I
- 25:49and one of the things I do is I always leave my cell phone with
- 25:52every single one of them. It's my personal cell phone. It's the same
- 25:56for cell phone that I use for business. It's same. It's the same
- 25:59selfe that I have that my friends and family have. I leave that with
- 26:03them as and I tell them, if you have any questions or if you
- 26:07have any ideas for moving West Virginia forward, please call or text me.
- 26:11Even texting is fine. And I just talk to them in that way and
- 26:17make sure that they know that I'm an open person, that I'm open to
- 26:21hear their ideas. I'm not sitting on some pedestal somewhere, you know,
- 26:25just keeping myself distant from the people. I want to be right there and
- 26:30I want to be interacting with the folks out there to get ideas for moving
- 26:33West Virginia forward, because a lot of good ideas that I've come about just
- 26:37come from regular, everyday people. I mean the people you talk to on
- 26:41the street. Lots of good ideas out there for moving West Virginia forward.
- 26:44And we have a reservoir of good ideas out there from the people, from
- 26:48the people here in our communities. Chris Preda's well us remember the House of

- 27:14Chris? My website is www dot chrisprint dot com. All right, and
- 27:21I'm gonna give you the final thirty seconds that interrupted from me. Why should
- 27:23someone vote for Chris Print for State Senate? We need to move the legislature
- 27:29in a more conservative direction. Our state has elected Donald voted for Donald Trump
- 27:36at a greater percentage than just about any other place in the entire country.
- 27:40Regardless of what everybody thinks about Donald Trump, he is going to be the
- 27:42Republican nominee, and he's a person who, uh went, to a great
- 27:48extent, reflects the values of the people in West Virginia. If you move
- 27:52the needle forward in terms of conservative values, that's how we're going to move
- 27:56the state forward. That's how we're going to move West Virginia forward. Is
- 27:59going in a more conservative direction. I think that we need to deal with
- 28:03the population loss that we've seen in recent years. The way we do that
- 28:06is with conservative values. That's how we're going to do it. That's how
- 28:08we're going to move our stateforward. Chris Print, Republican candidate, current Member
- 28:12of the House of Delegates, Republican candidate for state state Senate in District seventeen.

- 31:23when we have our candidates on look, you know, I know there's a
- 31:27reason why when I have candidates on. I don't normally take phone calls,
- 31:30and the reason for that is because it just turns into a gotcha type thing.
- 31:34And sometimes it's that way with the text to appreciate input, but you
- 31:38know, I can't read them all, and they are anytime I have a
- 31:44candidate on, most of the text I get about that candidate are negative and
- 31:48usually it's from the other side. And you know that's that's not what this
- 31:51shows for this show when it comes to the candidates. Is I'm talking about
- 31:55now Once they're in office, it's a different story, you know. But
- 31:56once they're candidates, we're trying to give everybody and fair of footing here Texas
- 32:01Haha, more conservatives than a super majority that exists more conservatives, text says,
- 32:07you would think the most present issue in West Virginia is whether a very
- 32:10small, almost microscopic portion of young people for taking the means to identify as
- 32:16a sex not born as one of the main things that will make the difference
- 32:21get on an issue that matters, says Texter. Texas says conservative Republicans preach
- 32:25about families, family knows best in individual liberty until it comes to something they
- 32:30don't agree with. Then they use the government to impose their religious beliefs limiting
- 32:34or eliminating choices individuals and that the families had, says Texas Texas, Chris
- 32:39Pritt is the best person for the state position. He's one of the most
- 32:43hard working and dedicated legislators we currently have and works tirelessly for his constituency.
- 32:47Even came out to Campbell's Creek after the devastating flooding two summers ago to help
- 32:52with the cleanup. I mean, welcome in now. Another candidate, Sarah
- 32:57Drennon, is a Republican running for House District twenty. Right, she is
- 33:00joining us now, sire our good morning, welcome to the show. Good
- 33:01morning, Dave, thanks for having me. I have to have you scooting
- 33:04that microphone just a little bit. You don't have that big, bombastic voice
- 33:07like Chris Prett had. No all right, so too with Sarah Drennam.
- 33:12Give me your bio, tell me about you. So essentially, my name
- 33:14is sarahdren and I'm running for the House of Delegates for the twentieth district,
- 33:16which is in Putnam County. So we have essentially wind filled proper into some
- 33:22of Fraser's bottom and then through Tayes Valley from Sleepy Hollow to Scary Creek and
- 33:25along the new exit essentially. So I'm a wife, mother, I've been
- 33:34a nurse for almost twenty years at Cavil Huntington and the Nicky and then also
- 33:37avid volunteer in the kids' school system. So I've gotten to the opportunity to
- 33:40be the homeroom mom, the tutor, the steam leader, and gotten to
- 33:45know the teachers and the principals and the kids and the counselors to have an
- 33:49innate knowledge of what our school system needs as well as what our teachers need,
- 33:54because we're going into an entirely different atmosphere in our schools. Teaching now
- 34:01isn't the same as it was twenty years ago. And with the explain that,
- 34:06so we currently have. What we've seen in our area specifically is the
- 34:10increase in NAS babies. So like Cavil Huntington had to develop, go back
- 34:15and explain what that is, so neonatal addiction essentially, and so all these
- 34:22babies that have been born in the last ten to fifteen years are hitting our
- 34:25school systems and the way they think, the way they develop, the way
- 34:30they interpret touch is entirely different from your typical child because every fiber of their
- 34:37being was formed in a variety of toxins depending on the day to day basis.
- 34:42And essentially, with that being said, the way they learn is different
- 34:46than what your typical child is. And unfortunately this is all new territory,
- 34:52so we don't know the best means to go about how to teach them,
- 34:57but still be able to teach your standard student. Get the education, the
- 35:00quality education across the board to everybody, so that we can end up with
- 35:06a workforce fifteen twenty years from now that can be productive, that can be
- 35:09helpful, that can help continue to build West Virginia. With all that being
- 35:15said, why the run for House? What was it that led for your
- 35:17decision to run for the House of Delegates. Honestly, it was my kids.
- 35:22I don't want my kids to have to leave West Virginia to find good
- 35:24jobs. So my you know, twenty word elevator speech is that, essentially
- 35:30I want to help build the economy in West Virginia so that my kids can
- 35:35choose to call West Virginia home, so that your kids can call West Virginia
- 35:38home. And it's not a that's where I'm from. It's a this is
- 35:45where I live, this is where I'm choosing to be, this is where
- 35:47i want to raise my family because it's a great place. The people here
- 35:52are fantastic. We have generally genuinely been exporting some of our best assets,
- 35:59which are kids. We educate them, we give them, you know,
- 36:01their college education. We have the trades which are absolutely phenomenal, and it
- 36:07will help build our workforce so that if we can get our education stronger so
- 36:13we have the quality. And then you also have the trade schools that are
- 36:17amazing. There's so many opportunities there and kids can come out making great money
- 36:22and have a quality education that will help build It's the footsteps of economy and
- 36:29industry, and so if we can provide the workforce, businesses will come.
- 36:32So that's essentially I'm doing it for our next generation. I don't want my
- 36:37kids to have to leave. I don't want your kids to have to leave.
- 36:39And they're the future of our state. If we continue to you know,
- 36:45educate them and ship them out, what's going to be left for us
- 36:47as a state? Talk with Sarah Brannan, who again is Republican candidate for

- 37:15whoever wins this race is going to be my delegate, just so you know.
- 37:17So it's a higher standard there more. I'm kidding. I'm kidding about
- 37:22that. But that area is a bit unique to West Virginia because it's an
- 37:27area and not all if this is not an absolute, but when you start
- 37:30talking about Tays Valley and you start scenario it's doing really really well. I
- 37:35mean in relative in comparison to the rest of the state. And sometimes I
- 37:38think people in the legislature and us in the media and maybe the publics think,
- 37:43well, I'm just there to represent my constituents, which you are but
- 37:47your votes are going to affect people in Martinsburg, They're going to affect people
- 37:52in Mate Wand or Wheeling or wherever. So you're really, in effect voting
- 37:58for the entire state. Tays Valley and those areas are doing really really well
- 38:02right now, especially with newcre coming in. All these people are moving in
- 38:06and so on and so forth. How do we how do you choose what's
- 38:10going to how do you take that and then move it to the rest of
- 38:14the state, I guess is what I'm trying to ask there. Essentially,
- 38:15I think you have to listen to constituents from all over the state. It's
- 38:19not just the needs of our area. Honestly, we do live in a
- 38:23great area. But what a lot of people think of as ah, well,
- 38:27you're in Putnam County. That's a rich county. It really is about
- 38:30sixty forty. I mean from what I've seen working in the schools, I
- 38:32mean I've been, it's not all Tays Valley. It's not. It definitely
- 38:36isn't. And I mean, like our kids went to Mountain View Fort have
- 38:43what they need. About sixty percent need a little bit of assistance, whether
- 38:45it's through meals, whether it's through you know, backpack buddies, whether it's
- 38:50through helping to get the increased funds for your fifth grade trips or your field
- 38:54trips or your class shirts. And people don't necessarily realize that just because we're
- 39:00in Putnam County, that what you see isn't just those kids driving the BMW's
- 39:06and all that that there's actually it's a whole different demographic if you get out
- 39:09and you walk it and you talk to kids, and honestly, those kids
- 39:15are part of my motivation. The kids that get dropped between the cracks,
- 39:19and whether it's because there's not enough time where there's not enough involvement, whether
- 39:22it's they're not getting what they need in class because they're not understanding, or
- 39:27they're you know, kind of a difference in interpretation that I think is what
- 39:34you have to look at as a whole in our entire state, because when
- 39:37you look at our entire state, that's the general medium, and I think
- 39:43you have to look at what's best across the board for everybody. Because yes,
- 39:45we want to bring an industry, want to increase housing, because Putnam
- 39:50County specifically has a housing crisis. There's not enough of it, but you
- 39:55have to look at, you know, our education across the whole state.
- 39:58You have to look at the account me across the whole state. And healthcare.
- 40:02Healthcare is huge, Taxes are huge, which affect everybody, and it's
- 40:07not what's just best for me and my family or you and yours, but
- 40:12you have to look at it. Ultimately, we're here to serve. That's
- 40:15how That's what I look at as a whole for my life is where can
- 40:21I best be utilized, whether it's being a gopher, whether it's running from
- 40:23place to place, whether it's baking cookies and providing meals for different you know,
- 40:29vocations. Ultimately, my goal is just to be utilized the best of
- 40:35my ability wherever God leads me. Where can people learn more about your campaign?

- 41:04also for our population that's coming in for our aging population as well, because
- 41:08there's needs across the board. And I genuinely just have a heart for service

- 45:52of a Democratic ticket, on the show tomorrow, State Senator Eric Nelson this
- 45:55year. And Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt. Nitro voters will be looking at a
- 46:00levee when they had to the polls. Discussed that with nitromere Casebolt coming out
- 46:05tomorrow. Chad Smart is with us right now. He is a candidate for
- 46:08magistrate here in Kanah County. Chad, good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 46:12Good morning, Dave, thank you for having me this morning. Tell
- 46:14us about Chad Smart, give us your bio. So you know, I've
- 46:17i spent last thirty years in public service. I've kind of wore all the
- 46:22hats. I've been heavily involved in Volunteer Fire Department, service, EMT corrections,
- 46:30reserve police officers. So a little bit of family history about me is,
- 46:37I'm a single dad with tas now teenagers. I was raised in a
- 46:43drug family, watched my parents go to prison. Then my aunt and uncle
- 46:49raised me, and you know that that gave me a good understanding of what
- 46:55some families are coming into being raised. At age fifteen, I joined the
- 47:01junior firefighter program at the Institute Volunteer Fire Department and that was a kickstart of
- 47:07my career just helping people. Let's talk about your situation growing up, because
- 47:13that's very interesting that you would bring that up a lot of people would not
- 47:15want to say that that they grew up with with drug addicted parents, but
- 47:21you're free with that, and you say that that has kind of led you
- 47:24to do what you want to do if you're elected magistrate. That is you
- 47:30know, I lived in that environment. I experienced it, and you know,
- 47:34I was blessed with a great aunt and uncle that took me in,
- 47:38took me to church, taught me to mortals, morals and values. And
- 47:44I looked at where I started from to where I'm at today, and I've
- 47:50worked very hard to get where I'm at today, and I'm proud of where
- 47:54I'm at. I love helping people. I've dedicated you know, being in
- 47:59the field. You know when somebody calls now on one, you know three
- 48:02o'clock in the morning that I'm jumping up out of bed to leaving my family
- 48:07to help somebody else. And you know, with that background experience, I
- 48:12think that gives me a good judge of character and understand what people go through
- 48:16in everyday life. Now, talk about what you'd like to implement if elective.
- 48:21Of course, magistrates, obviously there are very strict rules and codes,
- 48:24so you can't go in and change the entire system. But what are some
- 48:27of the things you would like to do and what do you bring to the
- 48:29table if you are elected magistrate? Chap So, I think everybody needs to
- 48:34be heard in the courtroom. You know, there is a script and you
- 48:38got to stay within the laws. I'm going to be fair and neutral,
- 48:45but I want to hear all of the parties. Everybody has a voice,
- 48:49and everybody needs to be heard, and that's what's really important. And you
- 48:53need to make a decision that is a very neutral and fair decision on all
- 49:00bonds and on any cases that you're making a decision. I talked about this
- 49:07with just about anybody I have as running for magistrate or a judge or whatever
- 49:10the case may be prosecuted attorney, Ninety percent of what you are going to
- 49:15see on a daily basis is somehow related to drugs. Is if it's larceny,
- 49:20or whether it's burgulary, or whether it's murder, God forbid or whatever,
- 49:22it's somehow related to drugs. Talk about that, and you know,
- 49:27and that's interesting you brought that up. Is one of one of the things
- 49:31I've done is I've went into these rehabilitation programs, the centers and said,
- 49:39hey, I like to see your program, see how it works. I
- 49:44want to see the numbers. I want to see that you are actually helping
- 49:47the people. I would hate to see it sit there and be on the
- 49:52bench and send somebody to a program for help, and that program's not working,
- 50:00it's not helping that person. So I think that's really important to have
- 50:07that knowledge in that tool in your toolbox. What have you heard as you've
- 50:12been out on the campaign trail? What do you hear from the public of
- 50:15Knawah County when you've been out campaigning more or less? Is I think the
- 50:22overall is people don't really understand what a master does. You know, a
- 50:28master is the front door of the legal system. You know, everybody goes
- 50:32in front of a master for all your arrangements. You're going to hear all
- 50:37the cases under ten towers in or less, you're going to handle the landlord
- 50:40disputes, you're going to handle DVP orders, PSO orders, you're going to
- 50:47You're going to have everything right there. It's the front door. So,
- 50:52you know, I think people need to have that understanding that this is a
- 50:58very important job. It's this is something that you want to do instead of
- 51:06just running for office. This isn't a nine to five job. This is
- 51:09you may have to get up three o'clock in the morning to go in and
- 51:13do an arrangement. Where can people learn more about your campaign. You have
- 51:15a Facebook page, website or anything like that. You Yes, I have
- 51:20on a Facebook page, I have elect chadsmater as Kennaught County Mastered. That's
- 51:27my Facebook page, all right, and it's s M A R two RS
- 51:32two arts. I'm not put two hours in there. Maybe accounting is not
- 51:36mine. I mostly looks all right. That was a joke. But that
- 51:39was a joke, by the way. Final thirty. Why should someone vote
- 51:44for you? I believe that I'm the best candidate in my division. I
- 51:49have the experience and the knowledge. I believe I'm a good judge of character.
- 51:55I would appreciate any vote. I'm easy to talk to you. I'm
- 52:02very understanding. So I believe in the best candidate. All right. Well,
