Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: More speculation over the future of A and Z Premiership.
- 0:03Speaker 1: This morning, staff at three of the franchises that the
- 0:06Speaker 1: Netball New Zealand owns have been told their contracts will
- 0:09Speaker 1: not be renewed. This is after they expire at the
- 0:11Speaker 1: end of the month. Northern Stars, the Magic That's Why
- 0:14Speaker 1: Cutbay Plenty and Mainland Tactics the Stars GM. Jane Bennett
- 0:19Speaker 1: has spoken out about this and Nathan Limb has details
- 0:23Speaker 1: for us this morning. Nathan, good morning. This is by
- 0:25Speaker 1: the way, the Heralds Netball correspondent. Nathan what do we know?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, So basically Netble New Zeale's interim CEO, Jane Patterson
- 0:35Speaker 2: has emailed at the start of those three franchises and
- 0:38Speaker 2: basically said, look, your contracts are going to end on
- 0:41Speaker 2: July thirty one and at this stage we cannot guarantee
- 0:44Speaker 2: that there is going to be a contract for you
- 0:46Speaker 2: next year now the contract ending on July thirty first.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That is very normal. These are staff that are contracted
- 0:53Speaker 2: part time. They go to and do other jobs that
- 0:56Speaker 2: they fall back on when netball is not in season
- 0:59Speaker 2: and they come back to the sport in the following
- 1:01Speaker 2: year when the competition's back underway. So the fact that
- 1:04Speaker 2: the contracts are ending, that's pretty normal. It's the fact
- 1:07Speaker 2: that we've got to this point of the year and
- 1:08Speaker 2: Netble New Zealand have still not confirmed the competition for
- 1:11Speaker 2: next year. Everything is still in limbo. That's the unusual
- 1:15Speaker 2: part about this.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Has Netborre New Zealand said anything about that?
- 1:19Speaker 2: I know they have remained tight lipped, as per usual,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and it's really really worrying Ryan. This is something that
- 1:28Speaker 2: we saw with Netble New Zealand last year when they
- 1:30Speaker 2: were under different leadership, is that they basically wouldn't say anything.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And I'm not sure when Netblele new Zealand's going to
- 1:36Speaker 2: realize that saying nothing is not a good pr strategy
- 1:40Speaker 2: because every time we hear anything it's through leaks and
- 1:44Speaker 2: through rumors. And I managed to get hold of that
- 1:46Speaker 2: email yesterday, but there has not been a consistent voice
- 1:52Speaker 2: from Netball New Zealand. The other concerning thing I suppose
- 1:55Speaker 2: is that the interim CEO, Jane Patterson, her tenure finishes
- 1:59Speaker 2: after the Commonwealth Games and just she is currently traveling
- 2:03Speaker 2: to the Commonwealth Games and she actually hasn't been able
- 2:06Speaker 2: to announce anything during her tenure. Bar appointing Briany Apel
- 2:11Speaker 2: as assistant coach. The board chair is also on their
- 2:13Speaker 2: way over, So it is a bit of a head
- 2:16Speaker 2: scratcher that a organization that is a bit strapped for
- 2:19Speaker 2: cash is now sending over at senior leadership teams to
- 2:22Speaker 2: go and enjoy the Commonwealth Games when the houses on
- 2:25Speaker 2: fire back home.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Nathan Lehn from The Herald, that's Netball eight minutes away
- 2:30Speaker 1: from six. I spoke to Dame noling Toto yesterday and
- 2:34Speaker 1: obviously they will be quite aware of what's going on
- 2:36Speaker 1: behind the scenes, but as Nathan says, not a great
- 2:40Speaker 1: look as that. For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge,
