- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. I'm already tired, Paul, just thinking about carrying stuff. Oh,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm talking carrying the show. No, my back's still fine.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I got those on those weightlifting belts. You know, I
- 0:24Speaker 1: love that term hockey sweater sweater. I mean, I'm a
- 0:27Speaker 1: sweater guy, but I don't wear a hockey sweater. Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 1: They're a little thing at a little different kind of sweater. Yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 1: so you've got a little culture in you. This weekend,
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Frozen four was going on the NCAA Hockey is
- 0:37Speaker 1: It was in Boston this weekend and never heard anything
- 0:40Speaker 1: about that on the news. If they passed on, if
- 0:42Speaker 1: they if they trade it down out of twenty one,
- 0:44Speaker 1: you'd feel worse than I would if they took a
- 0:45Speaker 1: starting guard. I'll try my best to hide it. But
- 0:50Speaker 1: is that what you're doing that happens? Is that? Is
- 0:52Speaker 1: that an example if you trying to hide it. No,
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm saying going forward, I will be better. You're ball.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I would agree so much, but I don't think that
- 1:02Speaker 1: is correct. You're just going to going to college next
- 1:05Speaker 1: year as a freshman. Yeah, I'm getting my grammar corrected
- 1:08Speaker 1: seeing here in high school. So we're taking an analytical
- 1:11Speaker 1: call on our show from from an individual that's a
- 1:14Speaker 1: year older than myself. Blows me away. This is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 1:19Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:25Speaker 1: is Thursday here at Gillette Stadium and special edition of
- 1:30Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. It's just me and Eascal. Yeah, Eric Scallavino
- 1:34Speaker 1: mats in the booth. Uh, Deuce is in la and
- 1:38Speaker 1: Paul's on his couch. No Paul. I think Paul's en
- 1:41Speaker 1: route to some far off locale. Really, I think yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 1: he's He's taken advantage of the vacation time, probably Florida, right,
- 1:48Speaker 1: doesn't he like to He usually goes down that end. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I think he's got I think he's concerned about his
- 1:53Speaker 1: ability to get home because you know all the madness
- 1:57Speaker 1: with the airlines, Lady Jeff Bluebin particular killer. Yeah. Well,
- 2:01Speaker 1: as soon as I came back from the owners meetings,
- 2:03Speaker 1: that stuff started to erupt. So I just slid in
- 2:05Speaker 1: under the wire with yeah, and that's all craziness going
- 2:08Speaker 1: on with travel. But yeah, they're they're both they're both
- 2:12Speaker 1: on vacation still. Yeah, okay, so it's us guys and
- 2:16Speaker 1: Matt and you know, we'll talk about whatever people want
- 2:19Speaker 1: to talk about. We've got some emails coming in. Um
- 2:22Speaker 1: Derek Carr, Yeah, got a big deal. H Like yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I mean that AFC West is crazy. It's it's an
- 2:31Speaker 1: arms race. I'm so kind of excited just to watch
- 2:35Speaker 1: AFC West games this year. Like you know how Paul
- 2:37Speaker 1: always mocks the uh oh you know division games and
- 2:40Speaker 1: primetime play them on your own time. This is gonna
- 2:43Speaker 1: be a year where that division, if they put those
- 2:46Speaker 1: games in primetime, they could be the most entertaining games
- 2:48Speaker 1: of the year. Yeah, yeah, I like it. I'm I'm
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think that's gonna be fantastic. And you know, again,
- 2:56Speaker 1: it's mathematically possible that all four of them could make
- 2:59Speaker 1: the playoffs, right, depending on you know, how things shake out. Now, Like,
- 3:04Speaker 1: maybe they won't all be that good, right, you know,
- 3:06Speaker 1: maybe somebody will tank, right, not tank, but you know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: not be hit with injuries or whatever, and maybe they'll
- 3:13Speaker 1: not be as good. But I would love it if
- 3:15Speaker 1: all four of them were good all year and like
- 3:18Speaker 1: it's just a competitive like it comes down to the
- 3:21Speaker 1: very end, and like, could you imagine, like a lot
- 3:24Speaker 1: of times we have Week eighteen, Week seventeen, whatever, the
- 3:29Speaker 1: last week of the season, there's usually a game that's
- 3:31Speaker 1: flexed at night because it's a division game and the
- 3:34Speaker 1: winner either get you know, wins the division, gets in
- 3:37Speaker 1: the playoffs, and the loser goes home. You know, it's
- 3:39Speaker 1: a it's an important, high stakes game. What if there
- 3:42Speaker 1: are two of those games in that division in week seventeen,
- 3:46Speaker 1: Week eighteen, where like all four of them are competing
- 3:51Speaker 1: to win the division, like it could be chaos. Oh
- 3:54Speaker 1: that's the NFL's dream. Um. But yeah, I mean I
- 3:57Speaker 1: remember it back in the day when you know, I
- 4:00Speaker 1: kind of like the Denver Broncos and no matter how
- 4:03Speaker 1: good kind, no matter how good they were or how
- 4:05Speaker 1: bad the Raiders were, or how good or bad the Chiefs,
- 4:08Speaker 1: they always gave each other a game. Like you never
- 4:11Speaker 1: knew what was gonna happen. You know, they put on
- 4:14Speaker 1: a Denver Bronco Monday night game against the Raiders and
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Raiders would stink that year and it would be
- 4:19Speaker 1: a great game, you know. Um, so yeah, I'm Paul
- 4:23Speaker 1: with his division thing. They can be good games, you know, yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I mean look at look at what the Jets. The
- 4:28Speaker 1: Jets give the Patriots games, you know, off and on,
- 4:31Speaker 1: off and on, you know when even when you know
- 4:34Speaker 1: the Jets were terrible. But these are these are potentially
- 4:37Speaker 1: oh yeah, like these are these are legitimate playoff content
- 4:40Speaker 1: with talented rosters. Yeah. So yeah, so you know we'll
- 4:44Speaker 1: see about that. Um, you know what. Otherwise, it's it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: pretty quiet. Yeah. I know you guys talked about the
- 4:50Speaker 1: Dwayne Haskins thing last Tuesday. Um, you know that was
- 4:55Speaker 1: kind of came out of nowhere and really really just tragic.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Um trying to think, like you know, other big NFL news,
- 5:04Speaker 1: there really is not right now that there really isn't.
- 5:07Speaker 1: We're kind of like the calm before the drafts. Yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 1: draft is coming up. We did get the OTA schedules.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I don't know if we're allowed to say that, but um,
- 5:17Speaker 1: well we got uh we know the dates of all
- 5:20Speaker 1: of the uh spring practices and I think internally we
- 5:25Speaker 1: might have gotten Yeah, I can tell you you know, um,
- 5:28Speaker 1: mini camp will be June seventh through ninth, Right, those
- 5:31Speaker 1: are those were already announced. Yeah, yeah, that kind of stuff.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So and those we have access to all three days
- 5:35Speaker 1: of those. And then there's I think I counted thirteen
- 5:41Speaker 1: practices where we'll have acts and we'll let no. Thirteen
- 5:44Speaker 1: practices in the spring, and I think we usually get
- 5:46Speaker 1: roughly half of that, maybe a little less than half
- 5:48Speaker 1: of that is available to the media. So you're looking
- 5:51Speaker 1: at five or six maybe days including those three uh
- 5:56Speaker 1: mini camp days where we're we'll be able to go
- 5:59Speaker 1: and see practice, and those should make for some fun
- 6:02Speaker 1: shows those days. Yeah, absolutely, kind of it's kind of
- 6:06Speaker 1: warm ups for us for you know, covering the team.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You know, Mini camp is like a mini training camp,
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know, so you get to try things out for
- 6:15Speaker 1: mini camp that you'll then be doing in training camp.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So looking forward to that, And of course you mentioned
- 6:21Speaker 1: the draft. That's that's gonna be huge. I've come to
- 6:26Speaker 1: the I've come to accept fred that they're going to
- 6:29Speaker 1: trade down from twenty one. And I said this on Tuesday.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'm hoping I'm wrong, obviously, because I want them to
- 6:36Speaker 1: make a pick because, more so than ever, I think
- 6:40Speaker 1: the talent gap between them and a lot of these
- 6:44Speaker 1: other teams in the AFC is just too big. And
- 6:46Speaker 1: I don't think you can waste your time fiddling around
- 6:49Speaker 1: and shuffling cards and saying, oh, we need to get value.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Like that was great when you had Brady and you
- 6:54Speaker 1: knew you were going to be, you know, default AFC
- 6:57Speaker 1: Championship Game participant every year. You can't do that anymore,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and you gotta you gotta make up the ground quickly,
- 7:04Speaker 1: as quickly as possible. So I'd prefer it if they
- 7:06Speaker 1: make the pick, but I'm resigned to the fact that
- 7:10Speaker 1: they're gonna get there. If they well, well you know
- 7:14Speaker 1: what I mean. He would explode, he would pull one
- 7:16Speaker 1: of my Yeah, but I mean I'd be at least happy,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Like if it's a Zion Johnson, local guy. He's kind
- 7:24Speaker 1: of a you know, big, big product. I would be
- 7:28Speaker 1: fine with that as long as they make a pick
- 7:30Speaker 1: and try to add some talent. I my personal preference
- 7:33Speaker 1: is for a cornerback. Yeah. I don't know if you've
- 7:36Speaker 1: come to any conclusion. Do you have your hour lads yet?
- 7:38Speaker 1: I know, but I printed out the Beast, Yes, Dane
- 7:42Speaker 1: Bruglers thing. So I've just started reading, and I'm through
- 7:45Speaker 1: the quarterbacks and the running backs, and I'm just starting
- 7:47Speaker 1: on the wide receivers. Now, so who's uh whose opinion
- 7:52Speaker 1: do value more Bruglers or the kind of I kind
- 7:57Speaker 1: of mesh it together, I see, like like right now,
- 8:00Speaker 1: so I'll go through Brugler's thing and I'll like, circle guys, Okay,
- 8:03Speaker 1: this guy intrigues me. Yeah, and then I'll go look at,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you know, whatever I can find in terms of highlights
- 8:10Speaker 1: of the player. But then I'll see what our lads
- 8:12Speaker 1: says and I'll kind of mesh the two. Well, first
- 8:14Speaker 1: you have to see if our lads has the guy
- 8:16Speaker 1: list right, you know, and I'll try to I'll mesh
- 8:19Speaker 1: it and see like where's the overlap, like are they
- 8:22Speaker 1: saying the same thing or is one saying something completely different?
- 8:27Speaker 1: And I'll look Then I'll look at the tape and see, okay,
- 8:30Speaker 1: why are they saying that? You know? Um, And then
- 8:33Speaker 1: I'll that then I'll come up with the conclusion that
- 8:35Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson is a good wife, and I'll be right, um, well,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know, blind squirrel like sure, um you know, but I,
- 8:43Speaker 1: like I said, I just started the wide receivers and
- 8:46Speaker 1: that's that's you know, that's a position of need in
- 8:50Speaker 1: my opinion. And then cornerback will be another one that
- 8:53Speaker 1: I'll do a deep dive into. Um, you know, quarterbacks,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I you know, I kind of just went through, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 1: some of the like you know, the top guy with
- 9:03Speaker 1: the small hands and all that stuff. Actually, now that
- 9:06Speaker 1: you mentioned quarterbacks, there was some minor Patriots related news
- 9:10Speaker 1: regarding a local quarterback, E J. Perry, the kid from
- 9:13Speaker 1: Andover who's played for Boston College n Brown in his career. Um,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I believe he has an official visit with the past. Okay,
- 9:22Speaker 1: now again, he's not considered a first round pick or
- 9:25Speaker 1: anything like that, so you know, and and those those visits,
- 9:29Speaker 1: those official those thirty visits that each team gets with
- 9:32Speaker 1: draft prospects aren't necessarily and usually aren't an indication that
- 9:37Speaker 1: the team wants to draft that player. It might mean
- 9:40Speaker 1: that they want to do more in depth interviewing with
- 9:43Speaker 1: the guy, or maybe work him out a little bit.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'm not sure if that's technically under the rules plausible,
- 9:50Speaker 1: but um, they just maybe want more information, either to
- 9:53Speaker 1: confirm one way or the other what they were thinking
- 9:56Speaker 1: about the guy. Ye and but it is interesting that
- 10:01Speaker 1: he's i think right now, projected to be a Day
- 10:03Speaker 1: three pick. So it wouldn't sun me if they pick
- 10:07Speaker 1: a quarterback somewhere in the draft and you know, a
- 10:10Speaker 1: guy like him with local roots would be a great story. Yeah.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I don't know in particular, Perry, but you know, sometimes
- 10:17Speaker 1: they've brought guys in who are on a team that
- 10:19Speaker 1: have other players that the Patriots are interested in, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: they say, you know, while they're working out, how do
- 10:24Speaker 1: you you know, how how do you work with so
- 10:26Speaker 1: and so pickin? Yeah, so every every guy's an opportunity
- 10:30Speaker 1: for information, and it may not always be about that guy,
- 10:33Speaker 1: I know, and that that would suck if they if you, like,
- 10:35Speaker 1: you're the guy and you get there, you're like, oh,
- 10:36Speaker 1: the Patriots are interested. I get there and all they
- 10:38Speaker 1: do with all they do is talk about my teammate
- 10:40Speaker 1: for two hours. Right. I'm sure they're they're more tactful
- 10:42Speaker 1: than that, but yeah, but yeah, they're they're looking to
- 10:44Speaker 1: get information anyway and from anyone they can. The other
- 10:48Speaker 1: thing you said a moment ago that, uh, I want
- 10:50Speaker 1: to bring up because I think it's important, especially this
- 10:53Speaker 1: time of year when people are so and by people,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I mean you know fans in particular, who are so
- 10:57Speaker 1: just eager for mock drafts and and any sort of
- 11:02Speaker 1: news scraps about who's visiting and this and that. You said,
- 11:06Speaker 1: a lot of times you look at your two sources,
- 11:08Speaker 1: your beast and your our lads, and you try to
- 11:11Speaker 1: see if there's any overlap or if they're completely contradicting
- 11:14Speaker 1: one another. I find more times than I care to
- 11:18Speaker 1: remember that I'll look at a player, I'll read his
- 11:20Speaker 1: little bio from one source and it'll say something like,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know, very fluid through the hips, like talking about
- 11:27Speaker 1: cornerbacks or something, you know, great, great recovery speed, tough
- 11:31Speaker 1: against the run. And then I'll read the same guy's
- 11:34Speaker 1: bio from another thing and it'll say tight hips, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: poor recovery speed, doesn't support the run very well. And
- 11:41Speaker 1: I'm thinking, your guys looking at the same person, right like,
- 11:44Speaker 1: So it's or each one looked at one game and
- 11:47Speaker 1: in one game, he played well in another game, and
- 11:50Speaker 1: so it's unfair to the player and and and it's
- 11:53Speaker 1: buy or beware in terms of the consumer, you know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: right like, you got to be sure that people that
- 11:59Speaker 1: you're reading watched everything right. And that's hard to do.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And you know, back in the day when it was
- 12:04Speaker 1: just mel Kiper, who had you know, the cottage industry
- 12:08Speaker 1: of you know, draft preview stuff. Like he would literally
- 12:11Speaker 1: spend all year, right, even in the offseason of college football.
- 12:15Speaker 1: That's all he did was look at players college players,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and he actually took the time. A lot of these
- 12:22Speaker 1: guys who are writing for these draft sites aren't doing
- 12:25Speaker 1: this all year, right. They're probably like looking up highlights
- 12:28Speaker 1: on the internet like anybody in the audience could do,
- 12:31Speaker 1: and coming up with their own little thing, right, and
- 12:34Speaker 1: it just like anybody else could do. Right, So you
- 12:36Speaker 1: really have to take you know, what you read and
- 12:40Speaker 1: what you see with a little bit of skepticism, you
- 12:42Speaker 1: healthy skeptics. I think the best thing is, you know,
- 12:45Speaker 1: looking at their tape themselves and you know, right form
- 12:48Speaker 1: your own opinion for your own opinion. But but just
- 12:51Speaker 1: keep in mind what you're seeing on YouTube or whatever
- 12:53Speaker 1: is probably all their best stuff. Yeah, you know, so
- 12:58Speaker 1: you know they also do things wrong as well. Um,
- 13:01Speaker 1: so you know, it's it's a it's just a blend.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But you know, I'm looking at starting to look at
- 13:05Speaker 1: the wide receivers and uh, you know the top guy
- 13:09Speaker 1: from Ohio State, you know, he's really only played um,
- 13:15Speaker 1: you know, one year where he had that big year
- 13:18Speaker 1: last year, right, which position during the wide receiver? Yeah? Uh,
- 13:23Speaker 1: you're talking about or the other guy? No, the other guy. Yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 1: his name is escaping mcgarrett Wilson. Yeah. Yeah, So I
- 13:31Speaker 1: mean a lot of projections he's going to be the
- 13:34Speaker 1: number one wide receiver off the book could be yeah,
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, now in terms of ranking, you know, Williams
- 13:40Speaker 1: is regarded as the second guy. But I mean he
- 13:44Speaker 1: had his injury in January. You know, he's not going
- 13:48Speaker 1: to be available until deep into the season, I think, right,
- 13:51Speaker 1: but even even if he's available earlier in the season,
- 13:54Speaker 1: he's not going to be Yeah, but the player that
- 13:57Speaker 1: he was before the injury, right, it will probably be
- 13:59Speaker 1: at least the year from now before he's that way.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And if you look at he's only played one year,
- 14:05Speaker 1: really yeah, a lot of them, especially at that program
- 14:07Speaker 1: where the depth chart is so yeah loaded that you
- 14:10Speaker 1: don't have a chance to play until you're a severe
- 14:13Speaker 1: but you know later in your career, right, So you know,
- 14:16Speaker 1: but that year was huge. Yeah, you know, so take
- 14:19Speaker 1: advantage of it, right, So you know, it's it's it's tough,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it's it's um but I I need to look a
- 14:26Speaker 1: little deeper in the wide receiver. Like I just said,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I just started, I'm sure there will be somebody that
- 14:30Speaker 1: really catches my eye. Um, and you know, I'll I'll
- 14:34Speaker 1: fall in love with I'll fall in love with the guy. Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: The other thing I find fascinating about the draft, uh,
- 14:43Speaker 1: the pre draft process itself is like if NFL teams
- 14:51Speaker 1: were we're better at Like, like if their success rate
- 14:56Speaker 1: with with the draft, by and large was somewhere in
- 14:59Speaker 1: the neighborhood of like, you know, eighty or nine, Like
- 15:02Speaker 1: more often than not, the work they do results in
- 15:05Speaker 1: making a pick that works for them and the guy
- 15:07Speaker 1: sticks around. Like, if the success rate were much higher
- 15:09Speaker 1: for NFL teams, I'd be more willing to say, you know, oh,
- 15:15Speaker 1: guys who worked in that industry that you know they
- 15:17Speaker 1: know what they're talking about. You can really rely on that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: It almost seems like for everybody, whether you're a professional,
- 15:25Speaker 1: whether you're in the media, whether you're just a fan
- 15:27Speaker 1: looking at a guy's tape, it's damn near impossible to
- 15:30Speaker 1: tell whether or not the guy's going to be a
- 15:32Speaker 1: good NFL player or not. It's hard, you know, even
- 15:35Speaker 1: if your job is to be a professional scout for
- 15:38Speaker 1: a team in the NFL. These guys get it wrong
- 15:41Speaker 1: so often. Yeah, with a player like you may it
- 15:43Speaker 1: makes you wonder, like, why is it so complicated? Because
- 15:47Speaker 1: they're human beings, you know, the players, Yeah, they're human beings,
- 15:53Speaker 1: and you don't know how they're gonna, you know, react
- 15:56Speaker 1: to all that money, yea, all that pressure, you know, teammates,
- 16:00Speaker 1: the competition. You know, you're you're in college and you're
- 16:04Speaker 1: the best guy out there, and then you come to
- 16:06Speaker 1: the pros and everybody's a superstar, right, you know, everybody
- 16:10Speaker 1: won the Buckets Award or the right you know this
- 16:12Speaker 1: that and the other award. You know, they're all all
- 16:15Speaker 1: this and all that, and it's like a funnel because
- 16:17Speaker 1: in high school you were the best guy from your
- 16:20Speaker 1: peewee team or your your Pop Warner team, and then
- 16:23Speaker 1: in college you were the best guy from your high
- 16:24Speaker 1: school and you know, the strongest survived there, and so
- 16:27Speaker 1: it's like you funnel your way down. That's why so
- 16:29Speaker 1: few of them makers, right, And so now you know
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's all those things. You can't predict how the player
- 16:35Speaker 1: is going to react to that. Yeah, it's it's I
- 16:38Speaker 1: just find that aspect of it more fascinating than you know,
- 16:41Speaker 1: who's gonna pick what and where and all that stuff,
- 16:43Speaker 1: because yeah, and anybody knows. And then you know, these
- 16:46Speaker 1: scouts or you know, the talent evaluates. Evaluators have their
- 16:50Speaker 1: own biases, yeah, intentional or unintentional, where you know, they
- 16:54Speaker 1: had success with a certain type and so they gravitate
- 16:57Speaker 1: towards that type of player. And you know, they need
- 16:59Speaker 1: to brow and you know they're you know, their their
- 17:02Speaker 1: frame of reference a little bit. And it's hard to
- 17:04Speaker 1: do because you go with what you know, and uh,
- 17:08Speaker 1: you know, sometimes you got to change up a little bit.
- 17:10Speaker 1: And so I I, you know, I was watching the
- 17:13Speaker 1: Patriots behind the scenes scouting. It was on Patriots dot com.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I think we posted it a couple of weeks ago.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And what would press me or what struck me was,
- 17:23Speaker 1: we have a lot of young people in our personnel department.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know Matt grow and and all in,
- 17:29Speaker 1: Marshall Oakum and all those guys. These are young guys,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and I think that's a good thing. I think that's
- 17:34Speaker 1: a good thing. I think, you know, they're they're more
- 17:37Speaker 1: tuned into the newest technology and evaluation methods, and you know,
- 17:43Speaker 1: now you lose the experience obviously, but but I kind
- 17:47Speaker 1: of like having these young guys with Belichick, who's got
- 17:52Speaker 1: the experience that he can impart onto them. But you know,
- 17:55Speaker 1: coming in with fresh outlooks. Do you think that it helped?
- 17:58Speaker 1: And Patricia, by the way, sure, do you think it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'm just that sparks something in me now that I'm
- 18:05Speaker 1: trying to I'm trying to uh analyze. Do you think
- 18:08Speaker 1: the younger scouts have an advantage in scouting players who
- 18:12Speaker 1: are basically contemporaries of them as opposed to a guy
- 18:15Speaker 1: who's been in the league for decades and is like
- 18:17Speaker 1: looking at them as like, oh, this is my son
- 18:18Speaker 1: or my grandson. Like I think I think there's give
- 18:21Speaker 1: and take. But I think the young guys are closer
- 18:23Speaker 1: to the modern athlete, you know, to these young and
- 18:26Speaker 1: closer to the pro you know, they most of these
- 18:29Speaker 1: guys played, you know, even even if it was at
- 18:31Speaker 1: a lower level, called they played college football more recently,
- 18:34Speaker 1: so they know what these kids are going through and
- 18:37Speaker 1: all that stuff. And I think I think that's a positive.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I think that's something you can you can you can
- 18:42Speaker 1: build on, um, you know, having having that just fresh Outlook. Yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 1: I wonder too, because we've all played youth sports or
- 18:51Speaker 1: high school sports. We've all played sports at some level,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and generally the best evaluators of the talent are the
- 18:58Speaker 1: players themselves. Oh yeah, like to play the kids know,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, who's the best kid out this? This This kid's good,
- 19:03Speaker 1: right Yeah, Like even in the schoolyard when you're picking,
- 19:05Speaker 1: you know, in gym class, everybody knows who the best
- 19:08Speaker 1: athletes are, right, Like, it's easy for the kids to
- 19:11Speaker 1: decipher that mystery of who's the best player out there?
- 19:15Speaker 1: Right right. So it's almost like to your point about
- 19:19Speaker 1: the young scouts, like maybe they they understand more because
- 19:21Speaker 1: they're closer to it. They're like, they know who's they
- 19:23Speaker 1: know that. But I think that's just the beginning. As
- 19:27Speaker 1: we've talked about, you know, knowing who the best player
- 19:29Speaker 1: is is just the start of it. Yeah, who's gonna
- 19:31Speaker 1: be the best teammate? Right, who's gonna who's gonna deal
- 19:34Speaker 1: with all this stuff that a pro has to deal
- 19:36Speaker 1: with best, and that goes beyond just their ability, you know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: and those are the things that make it tough. You know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: if all you had to say was who's the best athlete.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I think I think the scorecards would go way up
- 19:49Speaker 1: for these scouts, you know, but it is a hell
- 19:51Speaker 1: of a lot more to it, right, because you get
- 19:53Speaker 1: the guy who's a talented player, but he's kind of
- 19:55Speaker 1: lazy and he gets his big contract and all of
- 19:57Speaker 1: a sudden doesn't like to be told to do. It's
- 20:00Speaker 1: not coachable. It's not this, he's not that. And then
- 20:02Speaker 1: you get into the injury stuff, you know. It's so
- 20:05Speaker 1: that's what makes it. They're human beings, right, They're They're
- 20:08Speaker 1: not just you know, athletic robot. The fame gets to
- 20:12Speaker 1: the head, yea, for some of them, it does, and
- 20:15Speaker 1: so that's that's what makes it, you know, really difficult.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Eight five five Pats five hundred is the ace ticket line.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Eight five five Paths right hundred. Web Radio at Patriots
- 20:26Speaker 1: dot com is the email address. I know it's off season. Uh,
- 20:29Speaker 1: just so just give an update on some of the
- 20:32Speaker 1: content I've been absorbing. Uh watched Spider Man um No
- 20:37Speaker 1: Way Home. It was okay, great visual effects, just a
- 20:43Speaker 1: little bit too much going on for me. Started Severance. Yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 1: you're telling me about more and I'm into eight episodes
- 20:50Speaker 1: and I can't wait to finish. It sounds creepy, it's
- 20:52Speaker 1: really creepy, but it's really good. Whose idea brainchild was
- 20:56Speaker 1: Ben Stiller? Oh really? Yeah? Yeah. You think of him
- 21:00Speaker 1: as like a sci fi person. No, he's he's a
- 21:03Speaker 1: talented guy. I mean you think of him from Dodgeball.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It's not funny, right, there's funny moments in it, but
- 21:09Speaker 1: it's not fun It's it's a sci fi thrillerh wow,
- 21:12Speaker 1: it's a sci fi fill Yeah. He's not in it
- 21:14Speaker 1: though he's not. He's the producer or whatever that producer
- 21:18Speaker 1: I don't show runner. Yeah, but uh, it's it's it's
- 21:22Speaker 1: worth a watch, folks, I would. And that's on the
- 21:24Speaker 1: Apple TV Apple. Yeah, it's on Apple High highly recommended.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I know. Uh uh what's his name? I don't know. Oh,
- 21:35Speaker 1: never mind what. We have a lot of people on
- 21:37Speaker 1: the show that love content, that listened to the show. Sure, yeah,
- 21:41Speaker 1: that's why they listen, they love the content. Yeah. So
- 21:44Speaker 1: if anyone wants to uh chime in on this episode,
- 21:48Speaker 1: what are you binging? Like? That's that's a question for today.
- 21:50Speaker 1: What do you doing nowadays? Yeah? Yeah, so movie shows
- 21:55Speaker 1: doesn't matter, but several series it kept popping up on
- 21:58Speaker 1: my Twitter like, oh this is sever I gotta start
- 22:00Speaker 1: this and I'm so glad I did. Do you know
- 22:03Speaker 1: what the name the title means, Like this kind of
- 22:07Speaker 1: you basically sever all your memories when you come to
- 22:11Speaker 1: work through this uh procedure, and then when you and
- 22:15Speaker 1: when you go home, everything you know about work is severed.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So it's like you're like two literally, well you're two
- 22:23Speaker 1: different people with a whole different set of memories, you know.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So the day you get to this new company and
- 22:31Speaker 1: they do the procedure, it's like you're born into this
- 22:34Speaker 1: company and that's all you know. That's free and that's
- 22:37Speaker 1: all you know. You know, So you're like a child being.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Every day you're learning something new in this new life.
- 22:44Speaker 1: It almost it almost sounds like being a coach in football. Yeah,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you come to this building and that's all you know.
- 22:50Speaker 1: And then you go home and you have no idea.
- 22:53Speaker 1: You know, you work for Lumen, but you have no
- 22:55Speaker 1: idea what you do there, who you're that's the name
- 22:58Speaker 1: of the company. Yeah, you have no idea who your
- 23:00Speaker 1: co workers are. You have no idea who they are.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It's it's and it's a well thought out, you know,
- 23:09Speaker 1: premise yeah, so and you learn a little bit more
- 23:13Speaker 1: with every episode. It's it's really really good, all right.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Five five past five hundred is the eight second outline
- 23:19Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. Uh,
- 23:22Speaker 1: phones are heating up, so let's go over to them stack. Yeah,
- 23:26Speaker 1: we'll start with Melvin and Tennessee what's up Melvin's going on?
- 23:31Speaker 1: That sweet kid? I got a question really must about
- 23:35Speaker 1: Servor Lawrence right with the JAD. So if you have
- 23:40Speaker 1: an athlete like that, he searched along to find like
- 23:43Speaker 1: a good quarterback. Um, but the organization is just a
- 23:47Speaker 1: man right, obviously, I think it even going even worse
- 23:51Speaker 1: than he could have originally imagined that that is all
- 23:55Speaker 1: over the place. Wouldn't you already be somewhat like check
- 24:00Speaker 1: out with wanting to stay there and send up watching
- 24:02Speaker 1: somebody like looks like Matthew Stafford. I've been somewhere and
- 24:07Speaker 1: I don't want to like I want to say, waste
- 24:09Speaker 1: my career, but you know, resigned there and be wasting
- 24:13Speaker 1: white good years. I could be playing um with sometimes
- 24:17Speaker 1: the organizations that just not ready. Do you feel like
- 24:20Speaker 1: he's somewhat I want I guess checked out? But this
- 24:24Speaker 1: year coming up would be really important for I'll feel
- 24:27Speaker 1: like me if I just would feel like I would
- 24:29Speaker 1: want to get out of here. Yeah, I don't know
- 24:32Speaker 1: what they're telling them, you know, and like what's going
- 24:34Speaker 1: on behind the scenes, Like, um, you know they're making
- 24:38Speaker 1: changes over there, So I don't know what that what
- 24:42Speaker 1: they're telling him, like, you know, sticking there, it's gonna
- 24:45Speaker 1: be all right, or if like you said, he's he's
- 24:48Speaker 1: completely checked out. But you know, I think he's got
- 24:51Speaker 1: to he's got to put his best face forward because
- 24:55Speaker 1: even if he does want to leave, he doesn't want
- 24:58Speaker 1: to be thought of in his third you know, coming
- 25:00Speaker 1: up into his third year of a malcontent like this
- 25:03Speaker 1: young kid who's already like pissed off and wants to
- 25:06Speaker 1: go somewhere. Lawrence, Yeah, this is only a second year. No,
- 25:10Speaker 1: he wasn't drafted last year. Yes he was. Oh he was.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Oh that's he was the top overall pick. Okay, so
- 25:15Speaker 1: he's going into a second year, right, Yeah, Why do
- 25:18Speaker 1: I think that mac Jones was in a different draft. No,
- 25:21Speaker 1: he was just further down. Yeah I know that, but okay,
- 25:23Speaker 1: so he's going into a second year. So regardless, like
- 25:28Speaker 1: this early in his career, he doesn't want to be
- 25:30Speaker 1: looked at as someone who's like I want out already, right,
- 25:32Speaker 1: you know, And I mean it's only been one season,
- 25:35Speaker 1: like there have been plenty, Like like did you would
- 25:38Speaker 1: you have had the same concern about Peyton Manning after
- 25:40Speaker 1: his first year in Indianapolis while I went three and
- 25:42Speaker 1: thirteen but not Peyton, but like, well why not? But no,
- 25:45Speaker 1: but Eli, I remember when he got drafted, he didn't
- 25:49Speaker 1: want to be where he got drafted, like he took
- 25:51Speaker 1: a lot of criticism. That's yeah, right, it's true. But
- 25:55Speaker 1: I mean I'm just going by like just because of
- 25:57Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback starts and has a horrible rookie season, right,
- 26:01Speaker 1: doesn't mean he's like giving up on life. No, NFL. No.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But I think to Melville's point, like I don't think
- 26:08Speaker 1: the Cults were in such disarray as the Jaguars were, right,
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, like the like the the what was it
- 26:15Speaker 1: kind of work they were. They were a woebegone franchise
- 26:17Speaker 1: for well, they weren't winning, but they had Bill Polian,
- 26:20Speaker 1: they had they had a good structure around yeah, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 1: around Peyton Manning well and maybe for Lawrence you know,
- 26:28Speaker 1: the hiring the you know, shedding the deadweight that was
- 26:32Speaker 1: uh urban Meyer is going to be good for him
- 26:34Speaker 1: because now you've got a former NFL quarterback who's a
- 26:38Speaker 1: former super Bowl winning coach. No, that's what I mean,
- 26:41Speaker 1: like to come in and sort of shepherd you. Yeah,
- 26:43Speaker 1: they've made changes so like I don't know what they're
- 26:46Speaker 1: saying to him, you know, behind closer, like hey, Trevor,
- 26:49Speaker 1: we admit that last year was a was a disaster.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I think that's the whole point of hiring, right Peterson, right,
- 26:55Speaker 1: and to try to inspire him to say, hey, look,
- 26:57Speaker 1: don't give up. We're still gonna So if I was him,
- 27:00Speaker 1: I wouldn't I wouldn't be wanting I wouldn't be like
- 27:03Speaker 1: I want to be traded. I wouldn't be doing that, right.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I would be you know, being the best teammate and
- 27:10Speaker 1: player for that team. I possibly could you know, company
- 27:13Speaker 1: guy and see where this thing goes, you know, um,
- 27:16Speaker 1: because I think it would it wouldn't be good for
- 27:18Speaker 1: him to have that reputation so early, right, you know, Yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 1: it's important for him. Like you want to say about Peterson,
- 27:27Speaker 1: any player, you have to have some type of faith
- 27:29Speaker 1: in your coach out right, just going out with you know,
- 27:32Speaker 1: with what happened last year. It's just like this is
- 27:35Speaker 1: really bad, Like they have to hit on this Peterson deal,
- 27:39Speaker 1: you know, because of that doesn't go hap. I mean,
- 27:41Speaker 1: we're just now I'm gonna get three coaches and three years.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I mean like we're going on right. Well, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 1: we talk about um coaches who didn't do that well
- 27:52Speaker 1: the first time around. So obviously Peterson won a super Bowl,
- 27:55Speaker 1: so we didn't do that bad. But I think that
- 27:58Speaker 1: the second time around, you it's so much better, you know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: as a coach in the NFL. And I think that
- 28:04Speaker 1: you know, Peterson's gonna If you don't, you don't get
- 28:06Speaker 1: a third shot, right. But Peterson's gonna come to this
- 28:08Speaker 1: with stuff that he learned, things that he did wrong,
- 28:11Speaker 1: things that he did well. And I think, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 1: he's gonna build on that. And oh and speaking, you're right,
- 28:17Speaker 1: and I sorry sorry to cut you off, but you
- 28:20Speaker 1: just reminded me of something that was in all the
- 28:22Speaker 1: clips today that I was reading about. I guess Josh
- 28:26Speaker 1: did a sort of media availability where he was adamant
- 28:32Speaker 1: that in Vegas, I am not establishing the new Patriot
- 28:36Speaker 1: Way here in Las Vegas. Right, we're gonna do things
- 28:38Speaker 1: a different way, but when our way, which is completely
- 28:41Speaker 1: opposite of what he did when he got to Denver. Yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 1: all those years ago where he was like wearing the
- 28:46Speaker 1: hoodie with the sleeves cut off, he was twirling the
- 28:48Speaker 1: whistle like he was doing everything to try to mimic
- 28:51Speaker 1: Bill except like imitate his voice. And I think he's
- 28:55Speaker 1: really making an effort now to be Josh McDaniels, not
- 28:59Speaker 1: to be Bill Bellett check. So yeah, that just reminded
- 29:02Speaker 1: me that something else that was getting a lot of
- 29:04Speaker 1: attention today. Yep. So I mean, now, what does that
- 29:08Speaker 1: really mean? You know, I'm sure, like he's not gonna
- 29:11Speaker 1: just do the opposite just to do the opposite. I'm
- 29:13Speaker 1: sure there's gonna be a lot of things that Patriots
- 29:15Speaker 1: did that he would do, but sure. But I mean, look,
- 29:17Speaker 1: he brought all these people with him from the page,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but he wants to get away and he should, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 1: like he wants to create his own right. And I
- 29:25Speaker 1: think when he was I forgot how old he was
- 29:27Speaker 1: at the time, but he's like, what is he like
- 29:29Speaker 1: forty five ish around there now? Yea. And in two
- 29:32Speaker 1: thousand and nine, when he got the Broncos job. Look,
- 29:36Speaker 1: he was only in his thirties, early thirties. Like he's
- 29:39Speaker 1: grown over the past decade or more as a coach.
- 29:43Speaker 1: As a person, he's probably more comfortable in his own skin.
- 29:45Speaker 1: He knows who he is when he was when you're
- 29:48Speaker 1: that young, Like, think about when you were that age
- 29:50Speaker 1: and like if you were put in charge of everything
- 29:54Speaker 1: in your company at that point, Like you don't have
- 29:56Speaker 1: the institutional knowledge, you don't have the professional skills, you
- 30:01Speaker 1: haven't developed as a person. Much like I think you're
- 30:04Speaker 1: right about guys in their second chances coaches. You either
- 30:08Speaker 1: learn from it and get better or you're you're not
- 30:10Speaker 1: cut not cut out for it at all. Yeah, like
- 30:12Speaker 1: urban Meyer. H Yeah, he didn't learn like in the
- 30:16Speaker 1: floor like he did okay in Ohio State. But it
- 30:19Speaker 1: doesn't seem like he learned much from the experience in Florida. Yeah,
- 30:23Speaker 1: you know, and uh and certainly he was a disaster
- 30:28Speaker 1: in Jacksonville. You know. I I think he's got mental problems, honestly,
- 30:31Speaker 1: Well he's it sounds like from the reports when when
- 30:36Speaker 1: that all that stuff went down last year and a
- 30:38Speaker 1: lot of his assistants were sort of leaking out what
- 30:40Speaker 1: was going on. It sounded like he was an egomaniac. Well, yeah,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I just don't. It was like, you know, it's about why. Yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 1: I'm like, relax, the buck doesn't stop there. He's more
- 30:50Speaker 1: than willing to throw people under the bus. So that's
- 30:52Speaker 1: not a guy you want to work for. Then you
- 30:55Speaker 1: know he's gonna right, He's not, He's not. He doesn't
- 30:58Speaker 1: have your back. But basically, um, yeah, so you know,
- 31:03Speaker 1: I I get what Melvin's saying, but I think Trevor
- 31:05Speaker 1: Lawrence needs to be a good soldier for now, absolutely,
- 31:08Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, And and listen, he the team recognized
- 31:12Speaker 1: that with problems and so and that's a good thing,
- 31:15Speaker 1: you know, if you're a player, like okay, they agree
- 31:18Speaker 1: with me, right, Like it's not us, it's them. But
- 31:21Speaker 1: I do agree that this is a big year for him,
- 31:24Speaker 1: for all these second year quarterbacks, especially the ones like
- 31:26Speaker 1: Mac and him who actually got to start and play
- 31:30Speaker 1: a lot last year. What do you do now in this? Yeah,
- 31:34Speaker 1: this second year? What did you learn? Right, let's go
- 31:38Speaker 1: to Brett and Austin. What's up? How about spiing? Freds Now?
- 31:44Speaker 1: What's up? Speed? What is going on? Yeah? There we go. Hey,
- 31:51Speaker 1: let me apologize to you Speed. I tease the other
- 31:53Speaker 1: day that I was going to read your poem and
- 31:55Speaker 1: I never got to it. I apologize, Well, I made
- 32:01Speaker 1: a promise. And we call Eric Paul Bunyan because he's
- 32:04Speaker 1: the cutter down of trees. I recycle like crazy though.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It makes up, it does, fred I'm soap that you
- 32:15Speaker 1: mentioned Severance. Um, my friend works on that. She does
- 32:18Speaker 1: graphic design on that show. I haven't watched it yet,
- 32:22Speaker 1: but I'm gonna do it now that you mentioned it. Um.
- 32:26Speaker 1: But yeah, apparently there's this this cool climactic scene with
- 32:28Speaker 1: a computer screen that he did, so keep your eyes
- 32:30Speaker 1: still sounds pretty cool. Oh nice? Okay, yeah, yeah, so
- 32:36Speaker 1: I got some language bugaboos. Oh this has legs. I
- 32:39Speaker 1: love it. We talked about that a lot on Tuesday too, Freda,
- 32:43Speaker 1: It's yeah, it's a universally universal topic. Um, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 1: just a couple like keeping. Um. You know, Paul had
- 32:51Speaker 1: said that irregardless is not a word. Unfortunately, it is
- 32:55Speaker 1: a word. It just means regardless. It's just it's it's
- 32:58Speaker 1: kind of like flammable and inflantle haven't made mean the
- 33:01Speaker 1: same thing. Yeah, so yeah, but it does mean the
- 33:06Speaker 1: same thing. And but is it in the dictionary as
- 33:09Speaker 1: a word. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's the word. Wow. Okay,
- 33:13Speaker 1: Well I don't like it when people use it. Yeah
- 33:15Speaker 1: yeah yeah. I look down on people. I snub my
- 33:19Speaker 1: nose at people who do it. That's funny, because that's
- 33:23Speaker 1: there They're intense is to like be able to think
- 33:25Speaker 1: that they're bigger than you, that they're better than you,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and they're just doing they're right. Yeah right, And like
- 33:31Speaker 1: and Brian had called in about resiliency, and the same
- 33:34Speaker 1: is true of relevancy as opposed to relevance. It's another
- 33:37Speaker 1: one where it's just like why do you add the syllable?
- 33:39Speaker 1: It's just yeah, it's like it's just trying to be pumping.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah. But the two main ones I had
- 33:45Speaker 1: to call in about were, first of all, over use
- 33:49Speaker 1: and incorrect use of storry. And I think that sorry
- 33:52Speaker 1: about the gender stereotypes here, but I think men and
- 33:54Speaker 1: women do it different. Women over you sorry, like apologetically
- 33:59Speaker 1: uh when they have doesn't apologize for And then and
- 34:02Speaker 1: Paul does this a good amount, um, so we all
- 34:05Speaker 1: do it. I do it is uh when you're just
- 34:08Speaker 1: like you're you're you're making a point and you're like,
- 34:10Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but you're not sorry. Yeah right, you're not,
- 34:12Speaker 1: You're just you're you're you're just asserting right, point right,
- 34:16Speaker 1: thinking it, like being delicate about it. Yeah right, that's
- 34:20Speaker 1: that's a good one. I like that. And and the
- 34:22Speaker 1: other one I got before I as off is uh
- 34:24Speaker 1: and I don't know if you agree with this, because
- 34:25Speaker 1: Christian had brought up when at the end of us,
- 34:27Speaker 1: then somebody says like right right at the end of it,
- 34:30Speaker 1: which that made me think of. That made me think
- 34:33Speaker 1: of the sort of other side of it. When you're
- 34:35Speaker 1: staying something to somebody, whether it's an opinion or a fact,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and they respond you by being like right, or as
- 34:40Speaker 1: Paul says all the time, correct, like what like what
- 34:43Speaker 1: did I pass your like analytic witness test? Right? Right?
- 34:48Speaker 1: Who are you to be telling me that I was
- 34:50Speaker 1: the one I came up with the right answer correct?
- 34:53Speaker 1: Speak well, like Paul likes to validate, you know what, Yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 1: well what what Eric says? I come completely agree with?
- 35:00Speaker 1: Oh great, yeah, thank feel better about myself. Thank you.
- 35:05Speaker 1: The other one that you just made me think of,
- 35:07Speaker 1: the other one you just made me think of, Spee
- 35:09Speaker 1: is when people start a point with you know, to
- 35:11Speaker 1: be honest? Right? Does that imply that you normally aren't
- 35:15Speaker 1: a right? Why wouldn't you be? Or why wouldn't you be?
- 35:17Speaker 1: I assume you're always gonna be honest, So if you
- 35:19Speaker 1: don't start your sentence with that, I can assume you're
- 35:21Speaker 1: not being honest, right right? Yeah? Yeah? Well anyway, that's
- 35:26Speaker 1: that's like I'll salt the poem one more time and see. Okay,
- 35:32Speaker 1: all right, sounds good space. Thanks on a daylight today. Yeah, um,
- 35:37Speaker 1: let's see srisa Shrisha from Bangalore? Right, sin, what's up? Shrisha?
- 35:42Speaker 1: Sounds like a fun place. Hey can you hear me?
- 35:48Speaker 1: We can't hear you. Okay, you're talking about seven. I
- 35:53Speaker 1: think that's the name of severance. Yeah yeah, yeah. Um.
- 36:01Speaker 1: A movie called Paycheck. I don't know if you've seen.
- 36:05Speaker 1: It's a naffless movie movie. It's kind of like a
- 36:08Speaker 1: similar uh uh class line. Basically, he goes to work
- 36:16Speaker 1: in a company and to protect the intellectual property of
- 36:18Speaker 1: the company, he gets injected something to his brain and
- 36:23Speaker 1: when he leaves the company twice everything that he had
- 36:26Speaker 1: worked on and England what's the name? I think I
- 36:29Speaker 1: saw that what was the name of that against Frisia
- 36:33Speaker 1: Facesteck basic at the end of a month. Huh okay maybe,
- 36:41Speaker 1: but okay that sounds good. Yeah, it's it's it's a
- 36:46Speaker 1: very good movie. It's like two thousand three okay, oh okay,
- 36:49Speaker 1: all right, yeah, yeah, I mean it's remember remembered me
- 36:54Speaker 1: on that. It's also like a pound of like five
- 36:57Speaker 1: five thing. Yeah, he and stop finding note that he
- 37:02Speaker 1: jump down. It was to bring the machine that could
- 37:04Speaker 1: see himTo the future. I vaguely I might have seen that.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I vaguely kind of remember that, but uh, I'll have
- 37:12Speaker 1: to check it out again. And he actually before before
- 37:15Speaker 1: the memory, he sends clues to himself, right, yeah, escapes
- 37:23Speaker 1: from getting kids. Well well, and then that reminds me
- 37:27Speaker 1: of that great movie I think it was called Memento
- 37:30Speaker 1: um where every day this guy wakes up and he
- 37:32Speaker 1: can't remember anything from the day before, so he has
- 37:36Speaker 1: to keep writing these notes to himself and basically he
- 37:40Speaker 1: has to start over every day reading these notes to
- 37:43Speaker 1: see where he left off. And it's it's a really
- 37:46Speaker 1: it's a well done movie. Who's in that? I don't
- 37:49Speaker 1: even know. It's a very old movie. Yeah, that's a
- 37:52Speaker 1: movie yeah, all right, thanks riche appreciate the input. Let's
- 37:57Speaker 1: go to uh Enrique and Monterey. Hey, what's up, hello,
- 38:04Speaker 1: Enrique Beneffleck movies called Paycheck, Paycheck, Paycheck, Yeah, paycheck. I
- 38:10Speaker 1: think I did see that. It is Enrique from Monterey, Mexico. There, No,
- 38:15Speaker 1: I try again, and all right, sorry about that? All right?
- 38:19Speaker 1: Um yeah, A lot of emails coming in. Uh, Jack
- 38:23Speaker 1: from Annaba tells us it's uh paycheck is the name
- 38:27Speaker 1: of the movie. I think I do remember seeing that,
- 38:30Speaker 1: but i'd have to go and you know, the Benefleck Benefleck. Yeah,
- 38:36Speaker 1: lots of emails coming in, lots of Oh my goodness,
- 38:40Speaker 1: what is going on? What are they writing in about?
- 38:42Speaker 1: All kinds of things? Streaming, um, bring bingjing, Oh, just
- 38:47Speaker 1: words and drafting, Brian and Ireland massive Patriots fan. Uh
- 38:54Speaker 1: love all the work you do, even Eric. Uh, just
- 38:57Speaker 1: wondering how ye produces the words monkey and donk donkey,
- 39:03Speaker 1: even though both are spelled the same except the first letter,
- 39:07Speaker 1: but pronounced totally different. Yeah, monkey and donkey. Yeah, that's
- 39:11Speaker 1: the English language in a nutshell. There are so many
- 39:14Speaker 1: words that are spelled the same that don't sound at
- 39:16Speaker 1: all alike. Yeah, and why isn't it monkey and donkey
- 39:21Speaker 1: or donkey and monkey, monkey and donkey. Yeah, yeah, so
- 39:25Speaker 1: I don't know, but yeah, we pronounced them differently, right
- 39:28Speaker 1: or at least I do it. Oh, yeah, you do it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It could be donkey because you like adding syllable. No, no,
- 39:34Speaker 1: you are correct, Fred. Yeah. Um, let's see who else, uh,
- 39:43Speaker 1: Aaron writes in Love the Offseason Talk. Um, I sometimes
- 39:48Speaker 1: find myself getting annoyed when you go back to football,
- 39:52Speaker 1: especially the Grammar talk. On Tuesday, you guys spoke about
- 39:56Speaker 1: the most popular athletes. Sikin Tendelker, the Indian cricketer, was
- 40:02Speaker 1: and still is, treated as a god. So was that
- 40:04Speaker 1: a topic you guys were talking about. At the end
- 40:08Speaker 1: of the show. We kind of were like, somebody wrote
- 40:10Speaker 1: in and asked us who is the most beloved athlete
- 40:13Speaker 1: of all time? Okay, and I said I thought it
- 40:15Speaker 1: was Jordan could be and plus because he's you know, worldwide,
- 40:19Speaker 1: he's got the transcend dental uh, you know, transcendent sports
- 40:24Speaker 1: and everybody knew who he was. And I mean we
- 40:27Speaker 1: kind of agreed that maybe some of the soccer players, yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 1: nowadays that yeah, like if you're in Europe, you asked
- 40:32Speaker 1: the same question. It might be a different answer, but
- 40:34Speaker 1: completely different, right, you know, like if you're in Brazil,
- 40:37Speaker 1: it's pale right, that's brought up his name too, you know.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Also just wondering your thoughts on if you can technically
- 40:44Speaker 1: have a wrong opinion or not. If an opinion is subjective,
- 40:47Speaker 1: for example, I think this or I believe that, as
- 40:51Speaker 1: opposed to them being objective stating that this is or that.
- 40:55Speaker 1: A buddy and I had a week long debate over it,
- 40:58Speaker 1: with him saying a subject active opinion can be wrong. Cheers, guys,
- 41:03Speaker 1: enjoy the Easter celebration. Well, there's a difference between opinions
- 41:07Speaker 1: and fact, you know, we breathe there, Oh, in my opinion,
- 41:12Speaker 1: we don't. Okay, well you're wrong, You're wrong. I mean,
- 41:16Speaker 1: that's no longer. That's just a misstating of a fact, right,
- 41:20Speaker 1: you know. So that's where I think it's different. But
- 41:24Speaker 1: I like, no, if it's a subjective thing, that's the definition.
- 41:28Speaker 1: It's subjective. There cannot be a true right or wrong,
- 41:32Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I mean, if I think that severance
- 41:36Speaker 1: is good, that's my opinion, right. But like if you
- 41:39Speaker 1: had said Batman was bad, Matt Morrell would say that's
- 41:42Speaker 1: completely wrong. That's a fact, and that's good. But you know,
- 41:45Speaker 1: we all know that that's not you know, that's that's
- 41:48Speaker 1: the definition of subjective, that is that there is subjectivity
- 41:52Speaker 1: into it, right, you know. So I think that whoever
- 41:57Speaker 1: argued that opinions can't be right or wrong, what's correct?
- 42:03Speaker 1: That's my opinion correct, that's my opinion. But it's a
- 42:09Speaker 1: good one. It's a good debate. Yeah, yeah, you know, Um,
- 42:14Speaker 1: let's see, let's see. You want to keep on the subject. Yeah,
- 42:18Speaker 1: you want to call in, but it's going to get
- 42:20Speaker 1: lunch right now, I think. Um. This one is from
- 42:24Speaker 1: Scott and Charleston, South Carolina. As a Patriot fan, I
- 42:28Speaker 1: often focus too much on my team and not on
- 42:31Speaker 1: our competitors. What are some key things the Patriots do
- 42:35Speaker 1: differently than other NFL franchises. Some of the things that
- 42:38Speaker 1: come to mind are are week to week uh, deep
- 42:42Speaker 1: game planning. There are some coaches out there that kind
- 42:46Speaker 1: of do the same. Yeah, but I've heard enough from
- 42:49Speaker 1: players that say that, you know, that's what Bill does
- 42:53Speaker 1: is amazing And I think, you know, because of what
- 42:56Speaker 1: he wants to do from week to week is why
- 42:59Speaker 1: he always like guys that were versatile because he wants
- 43:02Speaker 1: to change it up depending on another team's you know,
- 43:04Speaker 1: strengths or weaknesses, whereas I think there are some teams
- 43:08Speaker 1: with really you know, great rosters where it's like, I
- 43:11Speaker 1: don't care what you do, what we do, Like you know,
- 43:14Speaker 1: back in the old days, like the eighty five Bears defense,
- 43:17Speaker 1: I don't think that was a game play defense. I
- 43:19Speaker 1: think they were just so good that it's like, we're
- 43:22Speaker 1: just gonna stop you. And the scheme was so revolutionary
- 43:25Speaker 1: at the time that, yeah, teams didn't know what to do. Yeah.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Then he also mentions our complex playbook now here. Again,
- 43:34Speaker 1: to me, that was all because of Tom Brady. Tom
- 43:37Speaker 1: Brady allowed you to have a complex playbook, you know,
- 43:41Speaker 1: and it was built up over twenty years. I think
- 43:44Speaker 1: the playbook, you know, even though the system might have
- 43:47Speaker 1: been the same, the playbook when Tom Brady was in
- 43:50Speaker 1: year one of his playing was not as complex as
- 43:53Speaker 1: it became in year fifteen. Yeah, you know, and you
- 43:56Speaker 1: do you know, you have to cater to the people
- 43:59Speaker 1: you have on your team. You can't like just assume
- 44:02Speaker 1: guys can do things where when they can't, you know,
- 44:05Speaker 1: So that's kind of a little mythical. You know, like now,
- 44:08Speaker 1: I don't think our playbooks that complex. I don't. Well,
- 44:13Speaker 1: it couldn't be last year because of right, they had
- 44:15Speaker 1: a quarterback. They had to like, you know a little
- 44:19Speaker 1: bit our aversion to hiring expensive talent. Um. Well, I
- 44:27Speaker 1: mean for a long time Cincinnati had that reputation too. Yep,
- 44:30Speaker 1: they didn't want to spend money on players. But you know,
- 44:32Speaker 1: like so, yes, the Patriots aren't always the flashiest term
- 44:36Speaker 1: and team in terms of you know, signing the big
- 44:39Speaker 1: free agents. They have done that in the past. Yeah,
- 44:42Speaker 1: there's always exceptions to that. But you know, you go
- 44:45Speaker 1: back to Poli and you know he was a little
- 44:49Speaker 1: bit more out there talking about their philosophies and he said,
- 44:52Speaker 1: you know, we we like to build a strong middle class.
- 44:55Speaker 1: You know. Um. Now, you know, now people are like
- 45:00Speaker 1: so caught up in what the Rams are doing and
- 45:03Speaker 1: the AFC West in general, and you know, the spending
- 45:06Speaker 1: spree that they're doing. That you know, maybe the Patriots
- 45:10Speaker 1: need to like, you know, change up a little bit
- 45:13Speaker 1: and you know, look ahead and know that, yeah, these
- 45:16Speaker 1: the salary cap is going up. We know it's gonna
- 45:18Speaker 1: go up, and in two years it's going to be
- 45:21Speaker 1: forty million now than it is now. So let's sign
- 45:24Speaker 1: those contracts now and roll that money into future years
- 45:28Speaker 1: so that we can fit it under the cap. And
- 45:30Speaker 1: that's what Paul you know, talks about. When cap is great,
- 45:32Speaker 1: you can do things like that, you know, But if
- 45:35Speaker 1: a COVID happens, you're screwed. Yeah, you know, like a
- 45:39Speaker 1: lot of teams were when they lowered the cap, you know. Um,
- 45:43Speaker 1: But so you have to be willing to take some
- 45:45Speaker 1: lumps for term you do. Um. Let's see. He also
- 45:50Speaker 1: says our ability to turn undrafted free agents into quality
- 45:53Speaker 1: NFL starters Yeah, I mean again, so that's where we
- 46:00Speaker 1: know our team and we know those success stories. I'm
- 46:03Speaker 1: not sure like if you add him up, if other
- 46:05Speaker 1: teams don't have the same number of undrafted guys who
- 46:08Speaker 1: become quality NFL players, yeah, they're actually I mean I
- 46:13Speaker 1: think that what was it? The Chargers and the Colts
- 46:16Speaker 1: were two teams who had a longer streak of having
- 46:19Speaker 1: undraded players on their roster than New England did even
- 46:22Speaker 1: but I will say this, you know, to support that
- 46:24Speaker 1: a little bit, And I'll go back to ninety six
- 46:26Speaker 1: when Parcels brought in Belichick and lawyer Malloy, who had
- 46:32Speaker 1: you know, just spent two weeks with this new coach, said,
- 46:35Speaker 1: the guy's a genius because he's able to make it
- 46:38Speaker 1: sound simple to us, like everybody understands exactly what they
- 46:42Speaker 1: need to do. So if you're an undrafted guy coming
- 46:46Speaker 1: on to the team and you're told this is what
- 46:49Speaker 1: we need you to do, and you do that, you're
- 46:52Speaker 1: gonna get noticed by the coaches, and you're gonna get
- 46:54Speaker 1: more opportunities. And so I think that the ability to
- 46:57Speaker 1: show your worth on the Patriots might be a little
- 47:01Speaker 1: higher than maybe some other teams because what you're asked
- 47:05Speaker 1: to do is so clear. It's so clear either you
- 47:07Speaker 1: can do it or you can and if you can,
- 47:10Speaker 1: you move up. You know. Um Our value approach to
- 47:15Speaker 1: getting people, Yeah, a few more. Our value approach to
- 47:19Speaker 1: getting people in free agency? Well yes, and no, I
- 47:22Speaker 1: mean last year was that a value or exactually wasn't
- 47:24Speaker 1: When they signed Gilmour was that a value approach? Now?
- 47:27Speaker 1: You know? So it's you know, things, things I can
- 47:32Speaker 1: say we do better than most teams. Yeah, quite honestly,
- 47:34Speaker 1: planning for a Super Bowl. Yeah. Our discipline approach to football,
- 47:39Speaker 1: I think every team has that. I don't think they're
- 47:41Speaker 1: you know, our short term thinking, focusing on only the
- 47:45Speaker 1: next game. Well, I mean yeah, there are a lot
- 47:48Speaker 1: of teams yea. And then finally, and then he finally said,
- 47:51Speaker 1: our focus on special teams. I mean that's where you know,
- 47:54Speaker 1: Bill had a special team's background. He does value special
- 47:58Speaker 1: teams as a thing or to the game. So I think,
- 48:01Speaker 1: you know, I remember who was the coach of the
- 48:05Speaker 1: Saint Louis Rams when we beat them. Marts Yeah, you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: like a year or two later saying, you know, maybe
- 48:12Speaker 1: I should spend a little bit more time thinking about specialties.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I mean, that was right, that was an admission. Yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 1: So anyways, good, good email, good email. Yeah, all right, Um,
- 48:23Speaker 1: we're gonna take a quick break. Lots of other emails
- 48:25Speaker 1: coming in. And then of course, if what are you
- 48:28Speaker 1: binging on? What are you what content are you binging on?
- 48:31Speaker 1: These days? Let us know we'll be right back. Patriot

- 59:15Speaker 1: we'll be doing it live from the draft party. Uh so,
- 59:19Speaker 1: um that'll be good because they're gonna be having um
- 59:23Speaker 1: live interviews with Bill Belichick, Matt grow with Robert Kraft
- 59:28Speaker 1: and so you know that'll happen probably in the first
- 59:30Speaker 1: half hour. We're gonna start at seven thirty that Thursday
- 59:34Speaker 1: in so that first half hour we'll have a bunch
- 59:36Speaker 1: of good interviews that will go to during the show.
- 59:39Speaker 1: So question from the back here, Bill, you're gonna make
- 59:42Speaker 1: a pick at twenty one or should we just go home? Now?
- 59:45Speaker 1: That'll be the last question. Uh. Yeah, So Draft Show,
- 59:50Speaker 1: remember the Patriots Unfiltered Draft Extravaganza that Thursday night. We'll
- 59:55Speaker 1: start at seven thirty and go all the way through
- 59:57Speaker 1: the draft. So round one, yep, looking forward to that. Yeah,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Round one is always exciting just because it's the first round, right,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: you want to see the marquee names. This Round two
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: and three on day two are usually exciting because that's
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: when the Patriots make most Yeah, and then day three
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: we make no promises. But um, you know, live in
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: the draft party back live, you know, um COVID's over
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: for the most part and just gotta get these matches
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: off the planes and we'll you know, so you know,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: people are back here at Let's Stadium for the party.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: So we're excited about that. Excited to get back in
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: person with all this stuff, good stuff. Speece sends us
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the poem. I guess we'll read it. I mean, I
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: don't like it, but you know he spent time doing it,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: so I will read Speece poem. There was once an
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: old man named Bill whose time was just nearly at hand.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: He had to decide to play young or old guys,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Knowing Shula's win record could stand, so Bill figured he
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: knew a way for both he and Pat's fans to cheer.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: He'd run it on back with a thirty plus pack
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: that could squeak in the playoffs each year. Yet Billy
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Boy figured it wrong, because fans want a team that's elite.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: The risk averse plan of red shirting young men would
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: not keep those butts in the seats. Poor Mac was
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: stuck there in limbo with no high end wide outs
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: in sight. The revolving door cycling Veteran's Galore Jones play
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: never reached its true height, and still to this day
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: we wonder if Build only torn it all down, maybe
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: short term remorse would run its due course so a
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: new corps could carry the crown. That's that's really depressing.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: This is a from the perspective of the future. It
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: didn't work, right, He's he's writing a poem lamenting something
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: that hasn't happened yet, right, boy, Wow, that's really sad.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, so sorry, Spee can't give you, can't
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: give you a correct But for though, really nice. I
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: like the flow. The rhyming scheme worked, yeah for the
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: most part. Yeah, good stuff. Now you you insist that
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: poems must rhyme. This is one of those those argument
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: remember before we were talking about if you have an opinion,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: that can be wrong, right, right, Like anybody who believes
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: that poems don't rhyme or wrong right in your opinion
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: my opinion. Right now, I feel like I understand that
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: there's high Ku, there's Iambic, Pantameter, there's like, there's different
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: things that are not pros that are considered poetic poetry
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: poetry right to me, the most poetic thing is a
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: is something you write that rhymes to me, there was
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: a girl from Nantuckett. Well that yeah, it's more limerick.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: But but yeah, but it's if it takes real skill
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: to say what you want to say and have it rhyme,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: I think, which is why I like poetry that rhymes. Okay,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: all right, and no, Hiku doesn't really because I'm waiting.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I always hear a high coup and I'm waiting for
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: the rhyme to drop, and then I remember it's one
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: of those high coups. It's not gonna rhyme, and I
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: hate that. Yeah, it's like waters trembling down from the mountain.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Do I stare or jump in? Who knows? That's not
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: a poem, that's that's just words that mean nothing. Okay, Yeah,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: I like if someone offered that up, I'd say, Okay,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: you know that's crap. You know, someday you'll be in
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: fourth grade exactly. M Rozsie in Los Angeles writes it,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: A colleague wore a football jersey to work the other day.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I had the PU crew led by MB voicing disapproval
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: in my head. Worse yet, it was a JaMarcus Russell jersey.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: I couldn't resist, So I asked him why Russell? He
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: said he collects jerseys of high profile NFL busts. He
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: also has a Ryan Leaf jersey. First, I think that's
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: a fantastic reason for a grown man to wear a jersey. Second,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I couldn't really think of high profile bust from the
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: recent years that would warrant a Jersey purchase. Jamis Winston.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Who else so high profile busts? Well, I mean compared
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: to JaMarcus Russell. Jamis Winston is a Hall of Famer,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Yeah right, he still is a He's like a you know,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: a bona fide NFL quarterback who is a marginal starter yea,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: or or a really good backup, you know. I mean,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: so I wouldn't really call him a bust. He maybe
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: he didn't live up to first hype, you know, everything
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: that was said about him winning the Heisman and all that,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: But he's not a bust. I wouldn't consider him a bust.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Where was Drew Locke taken first round? U Upperton Middle
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Area rust? Maybe not yet too early, I don't know.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: I think more Jake Locker as that. Okay, like Drew
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Locke is at least still he's still in the league.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Like I think a guy's of busts who are like
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: really completely like gone after like a couple of years. Yeah. Um, yeah,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: it's hard to remember because we can't even remember guys
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: who were drafted last year. Right, all right, high profile
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: bus recent recent we know the old ones you know,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: um Patrick writes in about Memento, it was guy Pierce
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: was in it, in Carrie in Moss. Oh, she's the
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: one from the Matrix, right, Yeah, isn't that who that is?
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Carry Moss? I don't know from the Matrix. She's the
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: girl that's in the Matrix, right, Yeah, I don't know
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: from you didn't watch the Matrix. Of course I watched
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: the Matrix. I don't know her name though, because that's
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: all she was ever in. Oh is that right? Right?
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: It's her, right, Matt, that's her name. But I didn't
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: know that either. I didn't know. It's Trinity. Yeah, I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: know who Trinity is, but like, I've never seen her
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: in anything but Matrix. She was in Memento, right, but
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: I haven't seen that. You haven't seen Memento? No? Oh,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: you need to see Memento. Is it that good? It's
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: really good? Really? Yeah? Wouldn't you say did you see it? Oh?
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: He has Matt has to see it. A rarity that
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: he hasn't seen it. Wow, But if he did see it,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: I would have guessed he would like it. Uh, Roger
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: and Saint Louis, I have a full ball question, But
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I'm curious curious about Mike's thoughts, so I'll save it
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: for next week. For TV shows, my girlfriend and I
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: are getting through The Sopranos and we just finished season three.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: It's excellent TV, but the scenes with Tony's kids kill
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: all the momentum for me. Also, this new season of
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Atlanta is pretty good if you're interested in a surrealist show.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: But my real recommendation is Barry on HBO. The new
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: season comes out this month and it's absolutely hilarious and dark.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: I haven't seen I haven't heard about. I mean, I
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: know the Sopranos. He's like a marine killer that decides
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: to be an actor. Henry Wrinklers in it, and um oh,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: I can't think of the actor's name who plays Barry.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Is it a comedy actor? You know him? Is it?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: It's a comedy dramedy drama? Okay? Okay. Also from the
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Grammar conversation, I really hate when people get there, there
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: and there wrong, you know, the three different spellings, especially
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: in print, because I have to read a sentence like
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: five times to understand what they're trying to say. Yeah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: that's a that's a common one. People make that mistake
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: all the time. Yeah, especially when they run into the
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: SPF win box. I remember I lost a spelling be
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: in I don't know, third grade of something, and there
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: was the word and I got two cracks at it,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: and did you not ask for the use in a
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: We didn't do it back then. So thh e R
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: not it's wrong t h e I R. And I
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: just couldn't think of t h e y apostrophe R.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: They gave you a contraction. Yeah that's not fair. I know.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Well they used it in a sentence, so I know,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: but yeah, you're not supposed to put a contraction. And
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: so like I just like, this is it. This is
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: the only two I know. And it was thy apostrophe R.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: That's I would have called. I would have thrown a flag, Yeah,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I would have. I would have rumped out of the
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: out of the classroom. Yeah, third grade. You know, you
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: get hit by the nuns if you This isn't gonna
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: surprise you at all. I won I won my town
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: spelling being of course in eighth grade. Yeah, the word
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: was petucket and a lot of people can't pronounce patucket.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: But then I get to the states, so you know,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: if you win the state, you go to the script
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: spelling being Washington Wow. And I'm like, I was so
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: sure I was gonna destroy this. And I get there
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: and round one I get mohair, a word I'd never
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: heard in my life at that point. I'm thirteen years
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: old or whatever. It was mohair and okay, and I
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: asked for the sentence of the definition all that I
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: didn't know what it was. So I spelled at mw
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: h ai r mo hair right and no incorrect. The
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: girl who came right after me, who ended up winning
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: the whole thing, you know what they gave her what mascara?
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, girls were makeup. I gave her mascara, right.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: And I get mohair, like I'd never heard of it before.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: You never had a mohair coat. I'd never heard of it. No, Okay,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: is it is? It? Is it fake hair? I can't remember.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: I don't know, but I just realized what our next
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: challenge is A spelling off. A spelling off. We need
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: the rules. It would be a spelling speed spelling speed. Okay,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: we'll see who's the best speller. Eric, I'll take on
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: the Rhode Island champ I was a North Providence champ
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: I Providence the Hills of North Providence. Yea, so was
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: you and some guy named you know, Billy or something.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: We had. It was a throw down though that our
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: final round was me and this other kid and it
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: went on for like fifteen minutes because we were both
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: like right, we were getting everything right. And then finally
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: the kid cracked on, did you did you feel like
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: nervous with no? Because I knew I was better. Oh wow,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: and I hear this. You hear that, You hear that?
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: The swagger? Oh yeah, I had it back. I had
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: it back then. And then the one I the word
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I wanted on was mesmerized okay, and I knew I
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: had it in the bag. Then. I remember my parents
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: are like, you had this big smirk on when they
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: gave you the word, and I was like yeah, because
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I knew it was in the bag at that point.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: What tripped him up? Do you remember? I don't remember
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: what word tripped him up, but I remember when he
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: was spelling it. I remember thinking, oh, yeah, that's wrong guy.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Yeah I got this. Oh wow, yeah, oh wow, no
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: surprise to our audience. And this was you were on thirteen.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: I was, uh, it was eighth grade, so I would
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: have been yeah, something like that. Nice. Yep, that's great,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: Matt and Madison, Wisconsin. I've been loving Grammar unfiltered lately.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Here is my language pet peeve. A lot of my
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: relatives out east say idea instead of ideas, and it
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: drives me crazy. It's like nails on a chalkboard and
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: people say Warder yep, you know that's an accent, yeah,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: or Washington, DC. Yeah, you know. But we we joke
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: about it on the show all the time. You know.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: We always add the R towards that end in a
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: right and we take them off of the ones that
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: end in her love the offseason talk looking forward to
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: the draft, hoping we can get ourselves a good cornerback. Also,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I saw that Obj is one hundred minus one hundred
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: and ten odds to join the Pats. Thoughts on this
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: is it possible? I thought I right around the time
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: where they signed m Whosi a couple of weeks ago. Yeah,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: there was a lot of talk about objm here. Yeah,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: and I mean he's he said he was when he
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: signed with the Rams and what was it, November December?
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Whenever it was? He said at the time he was
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: close to coming to New England. So I think you
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: put those two together. He's talked about Bill and glowing
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: terms before, so I think people and Plus he's coming
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: off an injury, and you know how the Patriots love
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: to sign guys who have knee injuries. Yea, so it
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: makes obvious sense. But I mean I at this point,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I whatever, He's a guy coming off he just got
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: an injury in the Super Bowl, right Like, he's not
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: going to be anything special. Bill and Albert Albuquerque. So
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Paycheck is a math action film directed by John Woo.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: He's a big time action director. Directed Face Face Off,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: m Am I Am twelve, Mission impossible too, Oh the
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: worst of the mission impossible to try to sell it out.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: It's based on a Philip K. Dick story. He's the
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: guy to look at when you talk about memory sci fi.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: He wrote the stories that became Blade Runner in Total Recall.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Oh wow, So enough sci fi talk. Now that the
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Browns are heavy at quarterback. Any interest in Baker Mayfield?
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: What would you give to get him? Or do you
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: even want him? Well, Baker Makefield is gonna want to start. Yeah,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: he's not coming here. Well, I think let's just say that.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: You say, okay, he's what is his third year or
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: something like that. Fourth year, we're gonna go with him.
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: We're gonna get rid of mac Jones, would you you
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: know that would be the thing. You don't just bring
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: him in, Yeah, bring him in with the intention that
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: he's better than mac Jones. I don't want to give
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: up on mac Jones. I don't either, not for Baker
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Mayfield certainly not no, nope. But Mayfield's do you think
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: he's got a future? Mayfield? Yeah, yeah, he'll He's not
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: you know, he's not a bust. We would get back
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: to the bust argument. He's a competent NFL quarterback. He's
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: got to find a job somewhere. It's just a matter
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: of does a team think he's worthy of being there
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: there a guy, or is he a quality backup? You know,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: maybe maybe he's one of these guys that ends up
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: being the quality backup and that's how he extends his career.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: But I don't think he's much more than that. H
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Tyler and Nadek imagine this, He says, Robert Kraft comes
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: to you with the request that the New England Patriots
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: we're splitting into two teams, one on Cape Cod and
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: one in Providence. He tasks you with coming up with
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: the mascot that would best represent the team's new homes.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: What would be the ideal mascot for each team? Cape
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Cod and Providence. Well, cape Cod has to be something
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: to do with the ocean, right or the Yeah, the ocean,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: you know, right, the sharks or something like that, right,
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: and Providence is just you know, corruption. Don't even start right, Yeah,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: I don't know, Like, what do you do for Providence? Uh?
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: We could do the uh yeah, we could do the
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: water fire logo, right, the Providence waterfires. Independent man. Well,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: Providence is called the Ocean state, right we are, Yeah,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: we are the Ocean state. It's called the Ocean. Yeah,
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: not Providence. That Providence is the Renaissance. How about the
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: pro the Providence Foxy Patriots, No Scott No, named after
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: the Foxy. That's probably the most famous thing of Providence, right,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: the Foxy Lady. The independent man is not bad, Matt,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: That's not bad. Providence Independent man. Yeah, it's like that.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: It's like the statue at the top of our Statehouse dome.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: He's known a the independent independent man. Yeah, just does
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: what he wants. He's independence. Rhode Island has had that
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: from the beginning. You know that Rhode Island Independence Day.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Rhode Island declared its independence two months exactly before they
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: signed the Declaration of Independence. May fourth, seventeen seventy six
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: is Rhode Island Independence Day. They declared their independence. Somewhat intelligence,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: I was born there, so I can say that you
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: were born in seventeen seventy six. Yeah. Right. Also, a
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: grammar slash phrase that has always drove me crazy is
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: when people say I could care less instead of I
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: couldn't care less. I make that mistake and every time
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: I do Andy would correct me. Right right, Yeah, I
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: couldn't care less as the proper way of using that. Ye,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: let's see and spe He's very active, he says in
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: the US, Michael Jordan is the most respected athlete of
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: all time, but Babe Ruth is probably the most beloved.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Babe Ruth. Yeah, I don't. I don't know. Like I
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: was thinking, I gotta call Bogus on that one. I
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: was thinking, like, if you had to pick one player
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: who was the iconic player of that sport, who would
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: it be? And so for baseball, I picked Babe Ruth.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: That's a different argument though, right, completely different. You know,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: different criteria. Yeah, so I think it's Babe Ruth. I
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: think it's probably Jordan for basketball, Yeah, I think for
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: base I mean for hockey, it's could be Gretzky. Probably
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Gretzky at this point. Yeah, you know, I was gonna
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: say Gordy Howe just because of the longevity, but Gretzky's
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: the right answer, Yeah, I think. And then for a
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: ball football, that's a tough one. That's a real tough one.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: But I think it's got to be Brady. I think
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: it's Yeah, I think yeah, now, yeah, before Brady, who
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: would it have been? Well, I you know Montana, I'd
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: like Jim Brown, Yeah, you know, but like Walter Payton.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: You know, it's like, if you have to think of
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: one person for the sport, who is it? Right now?
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: It's Brady. Especially with the it's got to be especially
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: with the age breaking records, being MVP caliber at at
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: this stage. Yeah, and then I was going, okay, let's
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: go rings, let's go beyond that, like men's track and
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: feel women's track and field. So for women, I think
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: it's flow Joe, right, isn't that Yeah? Maybe probably it's
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: a good one. I'd say using Bolt for track maybe
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: US Bowl, yeah yeah. And then for tennis that's a
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: that's a tough one too, because I think you got
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: three of the top three are playing right now right still.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: But when you think of tennis, who do you like,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: who's that iconic tennis player you know? Well it I
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: think it depends on your age, because some people would say,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: like Rod Labor, Rod Labor, right, and like none of
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: us ever saw Rod Labor play right live? I did live.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I actually hit with him. You hit with Rod Laby
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: I did? And Cape Cod get out of here. Yeah,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: it was he was, um, he was in town at
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: the time. It was World Team Tennis and I was
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: at Roberts thing that he was involved with him with
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: the yeahs on the Lobsters, and I was working at
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: the mid Cape Tennis Club and he just needed someone
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: to hit with. What was he there for? Just something? Yeah?
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: They were warming up practice. He was part of that thing. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: And I got to hit with him for like twenty minutes.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: He had the old wooden racket and the pants and everything,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: and he's a lefty two and his left arm was
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: so his forum was so big it made his right
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: arm look deformed, really like his form was like massive,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: like like a Popeye. Yeah. Massive. I just remember, like,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: holy cow. You know that's a cool story, yeah, Hansel,
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Yeah no, but it really is. I wow, Rod Rod
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: labor Um. But anyway, tennis for me, for me, it's Federer, Okay,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: but I know that arguments could be made for Borg
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: or like I think it really depended on when you
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: grew up. Yeah, because like McEnroe for a lot of people,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: is tennis, right, you know, John McEnroe's tennis, but some
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: people it could be Samperus, like when they grew up,
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: like it's a tough one. Tennis is a little bit
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: more tough. I don't think there's an obvious What about
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: for women's tennis, it's got to be Serena, right, it's
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: it's gotta be Serena. But before that, like you know,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: stephie Graf, some other people would say, you know, Margaret Court,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: how about Chris Chrissy Everett, you know, or Martina. Yeah,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: I you know, like I love stephie Graff. I thought,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: you know, like she was just the best, but then
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: Serena came around. Yeah you know, but that's another goal.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: And what about golf? Men's golf Anyway, I'm not his
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: versed on golf because I never I think it's between
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: two pe Tiger and Nicholas, Jack Nicholas, you know those two.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: You know it's one of the other. You know, I
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: can't really give an opinion because I wasn't really a
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: golf person. Yeah, but I mean I always knew the
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: name Jack Nicholas, and I wasn't a golf person, right,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I obviously know Tiger, and I'm not a you know,
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: I think nowadays probably Tigers the name. Yeah, I think
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: curling Stan Kroke, you know, it's easy. Yeah, but those
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: are the kind of after those sports, I think it
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: gets really obscure. I mean, soccer can oh soccer, soccer
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: can be I should there's an argument there obviously, for
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: we talked about Pela before, but Ronaldo nowadays, Messie for
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: a while was that guy. But I think like Ronaldo
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: is now getting close to the Brady territory with like
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: he's not quite as old as Brady, but he's old
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: for the sport and he's still playing at a very
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: high level. Yeah, and he's won and he's won, right,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: and he was like leading he led Sarah and goals.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I think the couple of years before he got to
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Man United, he scored like some ridiculous number, like one
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: hundred goals in one hundred and six games for Juventus
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: when he played there, something like that. That My numbers
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: could be a little bit off, but that's a ridiculous
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: amount of goals for a guy who's in his mid
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: to late thirties. Yeah. Um, Jack writes in a boxing
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Muhammad Ali hands down, Yeah, no doubt yep. Yeah, well
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: you don't want to put your hands down in boxing,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: but no. But yeah, that's the first guy that comes
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: to mind when I think of boxing is Muhammad Eli.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Some people, you know, might be Mike Tyson, you know,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: just because of where they grew up, but I think
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: it's Muhammedan. Yeah. Yeah, well he's another one too that
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: transcended the sport. I mean Tyson kind of did too,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: you know, in his own way. But no, not nothing
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: like Ali, especially with all of his you know, his
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: out of the ring stuff that he is known for. Yep.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Um Brian in Indiana, there's a book from an NPR author,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: David Rakoff, that is written entirely in rhyme. It's called Love,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: dishonor Married, Died Cherish Parish. Has Eric read it and
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: did he like it? Sounds like a game we have
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: on Patriots Unfiltered. You haven't read it. I had not
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: heard of it. Okay, well that sounds that sounds great.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: I love this, Honor Mary Died, Cherish Parish. Wow, Okay,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: the whole thing is in rhyme. Yeah, I love it.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: I don't think I would. I think that would you
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: would get yeah, I would do on your nerves. Yeah,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: I would get a little bit tedious. I'd like to
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: see it, though, just to see how far he can
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: take it, like, like, how long I can get to
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: beforem like okay, um, we get it. James Pettigrew, the
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: most interesting Patriots fan in the world, says Sam Darnold
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: is a modern day Busts. Busted yet I mean probably yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: that's probably a good one because I mean, yeah, he's
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: flamed out in Carolina. He's not gonna really, I mean
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: he has he's still in the league. But that's that's
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: a pretty close one to a bust Okay, Bell and DC.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: If you love Memento, I'd strongly recommend the new show
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: called The Tourist. It's on HBO Max and it starts
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: with a guy who's in a horrific car accident in
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: the outback and wakes up with total amnesia. Nobody knows
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: him and he has to slowly find out who he
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: was and where he came from. This isn't a spoiler,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: but he's got a lot of bad people chasing him,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: and each episode ends with a number of jaw dropping reveals,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: which keeps you hooked through the entire series. Tons of
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: violence and really good acting. Okay, what's that one called again?
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: It is called the Tourist. The Tourist? Yes, all right,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: let's see. Nick writes in I haven't actually been bringing
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: shows binging shows, more so comedy specials. I'm not sure
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: how much you like stand up, but there are a
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: lot of great new specials out right now. The new
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: age of comics are really good. Of course, you have
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle, Yam Sagura, and Bert Kreischer. Some new comics
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: to watch with really good specials are Taylor, Tomlinson, Sam Morrel,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Mark Normand and Andrew Schultz. They're all on Netflix and YouTube. Okay,
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: I do like a good stand up I do too. Yeah,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: well you used to be what Wow? Sure I tried
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: my hand at it for a while. Yeah, and I
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: loved it. Okay, I don't think you guys would like
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: that couldn't pay comedy? Who they mentioned and that you
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: wouldn't like his comedy? Why what is it? It's like
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: stoner porno comedy. Oh st stoner porno comedy. He tells
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: stories about being stone and porn m and his daughters. Oh, okay,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: wide ranging. No. My favorite comics back in the day
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: were obviously Jerry Uh. I loved Paul Reiser, similar type
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: of like observation. He's a snarky little um. Snarky Paul,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: the original snarky pol Paul Reiser. And I know I
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: liked Tim Allen's show. I liked Home Improvement. I never
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: really watched his stand up though, Yeah, huh Arlin. George Carlin,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: oh uh yeah. The reason I liked Jerry and Paul
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: was because, in my opinion, it's tough to make people
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: laugh without swearing. And you know, George Carlin obviously was
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: known for the mouth, and a lot of comics rely
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: on they used swearing as a crutch, like and I
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: used to see this sometimes in the club when something
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: wasn't going well, they'd just start with the profanity, and
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: people would kind of laugh awkwardly at because the guy
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: was swearing, and you're in public. To me, if you
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: can make somebody laugh without it swearing, that's you're really good.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: And that's why I loved Jerry. And Jerry never swore never,
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: and neither did Paul right and well he maybe Paul
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: did a little bit in the stand up here and there,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: but like it wasn't like he didn't rely on it.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Some of these comics like were like, yeah, what's his
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: name from Massachusetts? Bill Burke? No, no, no, no, no. Uh.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Andrew dice Clay, he was in that. He made a
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: TV show about Fireman. He's from Worcester. Oh yeah, Dennis Leary.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Thank he used to be one of my professors. He
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: used to drop the all right, yeah, the toothpick and
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: everything like that was that was a shick like but
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: one exception I'll give you, and it's I know it
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: sounds contradictory, but Andrew dice Clay the first time I
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: heard him in a in a comic special, Yeah, that's
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: all he did was swear right, freaking hilariously. I didn't
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: like him at all at all. No, you didn't find
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: him funny. I just thought it was just I didn't
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: like the stick. Yeah, I wasn't into it. Well I was.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: I was probably fifteen years old the first time I
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: heard it. And back at prep school, and you know,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: each dorm you have a teacher who's responsible, like they
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: would live, they had their own apartment that was attached
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: to the dorm. They would like the dorm maaster. They'd
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: often invite young men. No, but they like on like
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: you know, some some nights you have like a like
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: a like a dorm function, right, like everybody's in in
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: in you know, you order food in or whatever. And
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: our dorm master brought in Andrew Dice Clay's uh stand up,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: what was it called the dice Man Cometh? I think
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: was the was the show? And he's like, all right, guys,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: He's like like, don't tell anybody we're watching this, but
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: I know you guys have heard about him and you
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: wanted him. So he's got he's got the VCR tape.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: That's how old it was. And he puffs this in
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: and oh my god, it was the first time in
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: my life the phrase. I fell off my chair laughing.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: I actually fell off my chair. I was laughing so
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: hard listening to Andrew Dice Clay. Yeah, oh yeah, I
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: just didn't really think about I think I was a
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: teenager and that kind of stuff, like a you hear
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: an adult talk like that. A lot of like that's funny,
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Like my kid was young. A lot of the kids
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: love Dane Cook and who was a thief, right, and
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: I he stole a lot of his comedy from people,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: And I never saw. I was never like I. I
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: liked Dane Cook and then I found out that he
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: was stealing from other comics. Yeah what his brother robbed
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: him of every Yeah, he was like his agent or
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: his manager robbed him literally of his money. Really. Yeah,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: comes around all right, people have been waiting hanging on
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: the phone. Thank you for that. Let's start with Sean
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: and Vancouver. What's up Sean? Hey, fred I got a
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: few things, so Paul made me get a new wall clock.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: I was listening to the show on Tuesday, and you
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: guys thought, well, you guys, well Eric and thought I
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: was in a car with my blinker on and it
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: was it was my damn clock. I didn't realize it
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: was so loud. So now I got I got rid
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: of Ben getting that is like I I cannot and
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: you know you don't have ticking clocks anymore. Everything's digital.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: But in the day, I could not sleep if there
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: was a ticking clock. Really couldn't do it. I guess
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: I was used to it. It didn't like ever become
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: like white noise, no background taking clot and like the
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: tell tale heart over here. Yeah, but Fred that that night,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: it actually it got in my head and I couldn't.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: I woke up in the middle of night and I
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: couldn't go back to sleep. I had to take out
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: the battle right, Yeah, I hear you the first time,
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: like I noticed it of after years. Yeah, you could
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: not hear it at that point. Onto the TV things Severance.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: I've watched the whole series. One thing I don't get though,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: is why would Lumen bother with severance for these people,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: because you think corporation would do that to stop why
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: people like who are learning espionage about it are people
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: that are are gonna find out terrible secrets. But like
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: these people, anyone could do their job there, there's no
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: reason to do it for these people. I don't nderstand
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: why they're doing it. No, well we don't, but I
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: don't want to give away things, but I think that
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: you know, they're going to have a season two, right,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: maybe we'll find out then. Yeah, I think there's there's
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: gotta be because not everyone at LUMAN does do the severance,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: you know, no, no, right, these people, it's like why
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: those people? Right, there's certain things, there's certain things that
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: certain people are doing that requires that, and we'll find
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: that out, but not the main characters. That's until until
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: maybe later we'll find Yeah, but the other shows. Barry
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: is amazing. However, I don't binge it because it's it's HBO,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: so I watch it every week and it's it's basically
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Bill Hayter is is great and the real real hilarity
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: of the show. There's a couple of characters. One is, um,
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: this this guy from North Hollywood is because his name's
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: NoHo something or other. And then the other one's played
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: by Stephen Rude is his managers. It's just amazing. Bill
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: Hayter is good Man's funny. Yeah, Stephen Rude from the Office,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: the other show that's I mean Office Space. Yeah, Bill
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Hayter wasn't in that. He was in No, No, Stephen,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Stephen Route, Steven Route. I'm talking about Steven Route. Yeah yeah,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: he played Milton. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. He's
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: so funny. Um. The other the other show that that
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to coming back, it's the final
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: episode is Ozark on the twenty nine Okay, so really good. Yeah,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: a lot of people and I'm I can't wait for
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: a better call Saul uh. That starts up Monday. I
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: believe with its I think it's going to be its
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: last season. Okay, And with Carl and I have to
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: disagree because he's brilliant and in my opinion and his
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: his he does swear. It was known for the seven words,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: but it's not protubitous. Yeah everything Carl and that has
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: a point, yeah, because yeah, I mean he's really clever,
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: but you know, like he kind of grates on me
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: a little bit. But boy, you know, in his time
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: he was he was groundbreaking. Like this type of stuff
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: he was doing was was amazing. Did you like any Murphy? Oh,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: his first two his first stand up that the one
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: that they did the movie one. I like everyone, yeah,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: everyone it's seen it, right, I hadn't. I hadn't seen it,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: and um, but everyone was talking about it and so
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: like a year later, I was at this bar across
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: the street from where I lived in Boston called Our House,
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: and it was like, yeah, it was like a living
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: room and they had couches and TVs and they were
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: playing Eddie Murphy raw. Everybody in the bar had seen
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: it except me, So I am just like falling out.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: I am like my stomach hurts, I'm laughing so hard. Yeah,
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: I'm the only one laughing because I'm the only one
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: that hadn't seen it yet. But it was it was hysterical. Oh,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: it was hysterical, but I'd say Eddie Murphy was was
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: more gratuitous. Yeah, probably, you're right. Oh, yeah, you're right
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: to think about it. Yeah, he had a potty mouth. Yea.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: All right, thanks Sean, appreciate the call. Let's go to
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Jay and San Jose. What's up Jay? That rhymes yeah,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: how you guys doing? Do you know the way you guys?
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: Can you hear me? Yeah? I just wanted to know
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: you knew the way to San Jose? Andy stop, which
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: makes me an a a listener. I suppose I was
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: hoping to uh get all four of your opinions day.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: It sounds like there's only two of you guys. There
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: today is that well, Matt's here wants Paul, Paul and
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: Duce have been very quiet on this show. Yeah, I
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: figured I figured that if that's possible. So here here's
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: my question, guys, um, I was arguing with a friend,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: and like I said, I'd like to get four of
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: your guys opinions, so I may actually call back next
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: week when all four of you there, but I'll give
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: you guys that head to start. I was arguing one
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: with a friend of mine and I'm not going to
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: tell you guys which side I was on, but we
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: were arguing about if there was anyone better and in
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: the NFL history then rising their game in the playoffs
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: than Julian Edelman. So that's my question. Can you guys
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: think of anyone that rose their game to a higher
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: level than Julia Edelman Julian, excuse me Edelman in the playoffs?
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: Can you think of anyone in his It's a great
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: it's a good question. I mean, Jerry Rice obviously had
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: some really good players, but he was great, great during
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: the season two. Yeah, Danny A. Mendola came up with
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: the nickname Playoff. You know him, But it's it's a
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: good one. I have to really think about it. You know,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: guys that made their name in the playoffs and we're
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: okay in the regular season, but really took it to
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: a next level. You know. Yeah, I'm going I'm gonna
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: shoot you a couple of names that came up. Um
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: John Taylor, but I thought he was pretty good in
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: the regular he was, he was. He didn't get a
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: lot of How about Fred Blintnekoff, you know, I just
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: I don't remember specifically, you know, he was the Raiders.
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: He was I didn't really watch. Yeah, maybe I'm not sure.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: But like you know, um Taylor, I don't know if
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: like he did that much more in the playoffs but
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: regular season. But that brings up Lynn Swan, Like was
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Lynn Swann? Did he elevate you know? Terry Bradshaw absolutely okay, Yeah,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: that Terry Bradshaw stepped up his game in the playoffs.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: I don't know what did he? Yeah, it was not
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: a great regular season quarterbacks from my recollection. And linz
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Wan's an interesting one. I know in some of those
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: Super Bowls Rays MVP, he only has like three or
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: four catches however, Yeah, which it's interesting. Yeah, but that's
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: the way the game was Man Stalworth? Stalworth was I
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: think a better receiver than linz Wan. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: an interesting over his career. I'll give you a Celtic
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: who did kind of epitomize this, Cedric Maxwell. Yeah. You know, well, well, listen, guys,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: I may call back next week U and if you
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: guys want to do a little homework on that, because
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: I'd be interested in the other guys opinions. And by
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: the way, before I go, Carlyn worked great, Dirty you're
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: breaking up a digital break up. We broke up, so
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: he could really do both. Okay, I just wanted to
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: leave guys with that as well. I'll call you guys
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: back next week and sp guys came up with any
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: more names. But I'd love the other other boys opinions.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Thanks Jay, Yeah, I will not think about that for
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: one second after the I might. You know, it's a
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: it's a good one. It's a good topic. Guys who
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: stepped up their game in the playoffs. You know, I
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: don't think it's a huge list. Yeah, just off the
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: top of my head. Yeah, Edelman's a strong contender obviously.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: You know Desmond Howard, I mean, you know, I don't
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: know he had that one player. Yeah, but you got
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: to do it for more than one game exactly, you know, right,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: you have to have have had a reputation for boy
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: when playoffs come around this guy. But in order to
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: do that, you had to have been on a team
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: that was in the playoffs a lot, right, So you
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: only are talking about the Cowboys, the Niners, maybe the Steelers,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: I mean one a lot of teams that had that
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: kind of success, like Edelman had a chance to do
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: it a lot, yep, because he was on a team
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: that was in the playoffs. What about great players in
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: the regular season who disappeared in the playoffs. That could
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: be That could be another, That could be another one
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: another topic. Mark is in Bolton. What's up? Mark? Um Well?
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: First off was one of the great possession receivers of
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: his time. Um So I don't think he elevated in
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: the playoffs. Somebody comes to mind as like Rabel, But
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: that's that's by the point where I really what I
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: really called in to talk about was the draft. Um.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: I really hate when you know he really like a
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: player as a great value, like four weeks out or
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: six weeks out from the draft, and then you know
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: somebody that the Pats might have been able to get
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: in the middle of the second round, and then when
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: it comes draft, you know closer, it's like a crap,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: we can't get him there. Um. And that player from
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: me is George Pickens, wide receiver from Georgia. UM. I
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: think he's really a true number one. You know, he's
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: got that size at six three one ninety five, He's
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: got the stub four or five speed. He's got an
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: incredible wing sprint span of like seventy seven eight inches. Um.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: So now if we want to get him, we got
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: to sort of go to the end of the first
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: round or or top of the second round. Um. I'm
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: not sure what you guys think of that player. But
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: I mean, if I know that the Chiefs at twenty nine,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: they really like Jamison Williams, you know, Alabama receiver, so
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: they're a possible team that would trade up to twenty
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: one if he's still there. I know Detroit's probably gonna
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: want a quarterback there at thirty two, so they might
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: be interested. And Jacksonville at thirty three. So I don't know,
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: just you know, just a draft pondering on that wide
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: receiver spot or well you want to take Williams at
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: at twenty one. Yeah, I'd rather have a cornerback at
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: twenty one. But you're not You're not alone. Mark, there's
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: I don't remember which of the mock draft people did it,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: but um, if you look on Patriots dot com, we
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: have a mock draft tracker you can kind of scroll
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: through there. Somebody picked your guy pick Hickens as the
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: New England's pick twenty one. So yeah, that's that's I
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: think you can get them later. So you're saying, like,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: trade down to maybe twenty nine, maybe pick up an
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: extra third, and you can still get pickings, you know. Yeah,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: yeah you can do that, I suppose. Yeah. I mean listen,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: if if if they end up with a wide receiver
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: some way, somehow in their first two picks, I'll be
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: I don't I have no problem with that. Yeah, I
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: have no problem with you know, and it number one. Well,
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: I'm saying, yeah, I mean, but Mark, the problem is
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: in the fourth or fifth round. Yeah. But the problem is,
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: if you want a true number one receiver, you gotta
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: be picking in the top ten most likely for for
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: a sure thing. Yeah, for sure, There's been plenty of
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: one guys that ended up being number ones who were
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: picked in the second round, no doubt, a long list,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: no doubt. But your chances are better if you pick
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: the guy sure who's a stud already. Yeah, well, I
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: don't think there's that many of them. I mean, you know,
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Drake London supposedly, but he's no speech or he's got
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: the great height and size. I mean they're talking about
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: him in the top yeah, ten fifteen, Um, and I
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: see a lot of traits that this guy has in
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: in the same way. I mean, yeah, I like the
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: cornerback if somebody like it, you know, if Booth is
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: there or Wheatley's there, Um, you know those those those
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: are a couple of elam some of something that e lamb.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: I don't know if he's good enough to be twenty one,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: but sure, you know, if you're gonna make the pick,
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: I wanted to be a pick that's gonna be that.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: That's a pick that that that's a lot of money,
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: right and yeah, you know that's certainly not an offensive guard.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: And I'm sick of that narrative. Yeah at twenty one. Well,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: my guy, Um, let's talk about guys that you know
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: might be available in the NFL. Now, my guy, from
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: forty nine ers um deebo. Samuel took down all his
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: forty nine or posts um from Instagram and Twitter. He
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: wants out and he's asked, and for twenty five million
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: a year? Would you give it to him? You would? Right? Yep? See,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: as much as I love him, I don't know if
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: I would. But that's what he that's what he's looking for.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: I mean, well, look, that's the going right now for
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: me really, Tyreek Hills, Tyreek Hills making thirty million. I
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: guess what's his name, Davante Adams just got twenty eight
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: and a half or whatever from the Raiders. So that's
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: the neighborhood now that I guess. I guess. I'm just well,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: what are you going to give up to get him?
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: I mean, he got you'd have to trade for him?
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean yeah, you'd have to give up
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: your first round pick and plot probably plus something more.
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Yeah, like, uh no, no,
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: I wouldn't do that. Yeah, I'd rather I'd rather draft
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: my guy and pay, you know, and pay him what
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: a drafted player is for five years, right, Um, but
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: you know that. But Samuel's a sure thing. Well you know,
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: I hear Mark, you just threw out a phrase there
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: for five years and somebody. I've been seeing that a
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: lot when people right into our Q and A inbox,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: and I I understand what you're saying. A first round
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: pick has the option for the fifth year, So you
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: think of you think, on the high end, you're gonna
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: have the guy for five years, but there are plenty
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: of cases where the team doesn't pick up the fifth
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: year option. Yeah. So, I mean New England just did
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: it with your guy Sony Michelle. But if the guy
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: turns out to be a Deebo Samuel, then you want
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: to do exactly. But like, I don't think of a
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: first round pick as oh, he's under contract for five years.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: I think of him at just like every other draft pick.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: It's a four year plan and then after year three
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: you got to decide whether you want to pick up
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: that option. Yeah. So I don't think of these first
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: round picks is automatically like five years. No, but you
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: have they can be. They can that's right point, they
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: can be. So it's a little bit more security for
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: the team to know that they can have this guy.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: But but if the guy's that good, you're gonna want
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: to well, and going into his fourth year, you're gonna
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: extend him if he's that good, You're not gonna wait,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: you know. And and yeah, you know you're gonna want
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: to wrap them up you know early, Um, rather than
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: wait until the end of his fifth year. Well, but
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: case in point Isaiah Win. They picked up his option, right,
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: But are they in a hard to extend him, No,
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: So there are examples where that doesn't happen. That's true.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: That's true. Different position, obviously, like a skill position would
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: be a matter. But I think but that's the point though.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: I mean, it depends on the position. Left tackle is
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: a high cost position, so it led them to a
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: fifth year. Wide receiver is a high cost position. Cornerbacks
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: the high cost position. Defensive ends the high cost position.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: So those are positions that it's worth it you actually
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: do get the fifth yea to spend them into ten
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: years A different story, right right, all right, Mark, thanks
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: for the call, Appreciate it. Um. Let's see getting back
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: to the emails web radio at pictures dot com. Good
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: calls and emails today, by the way, appreciate it's been
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: a strong week for those Yeah, I think, um, you know,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: without without Paul here people feel, you know, freedom express themselves. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: we're gonna go drink. Ben and Brooklyn a couple of
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: a couple of um grammar things I can't stand include
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: same difference. I don't hear that as much anymore now.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: I've heard that a lot when I was a kid. Uh,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: if two things are the same, there is no difference.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: The misuse of mano amano from man to man. I
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: know we do that. You say manana when they do
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: the off the defensive line drills when it really means
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: hand to hand combat. Manoamano still works, right, Yeah, especially
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: at those defensive and confusing swag which is free stuff
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: at an event with swagger. It's true, swag is stuff
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: we all get it is. But you could you could,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: you could say swag is just a shortening of swagger.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: I know, but it's it's incorrect. Opinion. Correct. That's a
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: good one. That's that's a good one. Um. Let's see
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: Burt on Burton Island has a would you rather game?
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Would you rather? Would the twenty first pick get a
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: guard who was on the Patriots for ten years, playing
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: at or near Pro Bowl level all ten so, like
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: Logan Mankins, yeah, or get a corner who plays on
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: the Patriots for five years as a starter, all five
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: making the Pro Bowl twice. Uh, probably the corner because look,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: you're in the AFC and you've got offenses that are
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: slinging it all over the place. You need help there,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: and you got to you gotta get help fast. Yeah.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: I'll take the corner. Okay. Um. Would you rather keep
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Patriots history exactly as it is or change the O
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: seven Super Bowl to a win but have to change
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: two other super Bowl loss to a loss? And if so,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: which two? No? I like having the six? You like
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: having six? Yeah? Okay, especially because only the Steelers have
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: done that. You were in the Steelers are the only
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: ones with six. Yeah, that's I mean, if you had
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: a perfect season, it'd be great, but it would change things. Um,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: But then to think that you only got one other
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: super Bowl from seven to twenty twenty two, Yeah, I mean, yeah,
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: I'd rather have the quantity in this case. Yeah. Uh.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Would you rather have your head be the size of
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: a watermelon or the size of the Harst size of
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: a watermelon or size of a fist like that guy
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: in Beetle Juice? Yeah, I guess a watermelon. Huh uh yeah,
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: your brand capacity? Yeah again, I mean either way, you're
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: a freak. Sure, but you know what is that from? Uh?
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: And finally a shout out to Kirk minihan. Would you rather,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: as a man, be registered sex offender for ten years
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: or be very short? Let's say five feet talk? Well,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: I'm already short, so I'd rather be short? Are you
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: kidding me? Yeah? That's that's not that's not even a competition, right,
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: listen to every episode. I don't remember that question. You know,
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: one is like against the law and perverted, right, the
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: other is just right like the short people Like wait
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: a minute, hey, you know that's kind of shortest it is?
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: That's the shortest question. I heard something the other day
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: about short people. It was called, um, what is it?
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Short King Spring? I think type that. See if you
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: find that online, short short King Spring. It's like this
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: thing now where like women are like attracted to smaller guys,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: like in the celebrity world at least I don't know
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: in on TikTok is that what it is? It's a
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: TikTok thing? Short King Spring? Is that what it is?
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: And what is it? Just people's showing off that like
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: their girlfriends are taller than them, or their boyfriends are
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: shorter than them. I don't know. I just meture that
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: happens in the modeling industry a lot, because yeah, you know,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: then women are looking for lovers less than five eight
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: Oh really there you go? Yeah, get on that app right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: why not? It didn't say they were looking for guys
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: who are over forty five who are looking for lovers?
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: All right, that's wrong with that, huh, nothing good for them? Wow,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: Brendan and Edmonton. Fred. If you could attend any tennis
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: major in person, which would be your first choice and why,
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: I'd say Wimbledon, you know for me. Yeah, we've talked
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: about this before though, I would love to. You know,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: if I ever become a man of leisure, I would
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: love to take a a year and go to all
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: four majors in the same year. So absolutely start in January,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: go to Australia, watched the Austi Open. Ye, go to
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: France in May, watch the French, go to London, watch Wimbledon,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: and then blows it out at the end of the
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: summer in New York City. Yeah, I would Wimbledon would
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: be my first choice. Then the US open, then the French,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: and then fourth Australian. Poor, poor Australia, so far away,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: you know, with the airlines these days, you never get there,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: Joel writes in Shit's Creek is my favorite show. I
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: know Fred has mentioned it in the past. I just
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: finished watching it again and is just as good as
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: the first time around. Memento was an amazing movie and
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: Eric should check it out. My language pet peeve is
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: when people start a sentence with I mean. I hear
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Eric say it a lot, which is surprising to me.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: An example is when a reporter says to a player
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: that was a great catch of the player says, I mean, yes, thanks,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: you are going to hear it all the time now, yeah,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: I probably I mean, yeah, you're right, you probably will. Yeah. No,
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: I'm if I do do that, it's it's unintentional. I
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: will try to be conscious of that from now on. Right.
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: I it's not a grammar thing, but I just this
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: two types of talking that I just can't stand. It's
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: the vocal fry. Have you heard that? The vocal fry?
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: You know what that is. It's like people, Yeah, I know,
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: they and like their sentence like you know, like the
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: word like I think the Kardashians started it years ago.
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: It's like a West Coast thing that a lot of women,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: but some men do it too. You really like vocal
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: fry is uh that? That's that grates on me? And
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: then the other words up talkers. You know, we're gonna
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: go outside to tomorrow. Oh I can't stand that, and
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: we're gonna do this, And especially when people are like
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: in a business meeting and they're giving a presentation and
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: every sentence is up talking, It's like, are you asking
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: me or are you telling me? You know, I just
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: I just can't stand, like I want to correct them.
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: It's like, hey, you don't want to do that, you know.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: And if they start the sentence with so, well, so
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: everybody does that. But the up talking in the vocal
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: fry are like the vocal fry, I've never heard that expression.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: I know what you're saying about it, Yeah, but I
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: don't hear people doing that that often. You hear that
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: a lot? Yeah? People? Oh yeah, really yeah, yeah, I
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: do you know what I'm talking about, Matt. Is it
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: like is it like in in exasperation, like like I'm
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: so tired. I just know it's it's it's not, it's
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: not tired. It's just how they how they talk. Yeah,
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: oh that's bizarre. Yeah, it's it's a really bad effect
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: as they say. Yeah, yeah, I can I can see
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: that with great on me too. Probably you've heard it,
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: yeah yeah in the office probably. Yeah, it's all over
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: the play on TV. It's on TV a lot, you
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: know a lot of commercials like for like, um, women's products,
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: you know, like uh like bras or no, I'm serious,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: I'm being serious really yeah, like it's the best bra
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: you know. Oh oh god. Oh see now I'm gonna
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: now I'm probably gonna see and hear it all over
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: the place. But I had never really, i'd never heard
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: that term before. See. Now everyone's gonna start emailing in right, yeah,
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: pat nag Kurt Cobain started the vocal fry. I didn't
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: know that it could be true, Hurt Cobain. Yea, but mate,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I don't know if did he mean he started saying
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: it or did he dub it the vocal fry? I
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: don't know. Because he's dead. We can't ask him. We
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: can't ask him, you know. Um Kareem in Boston has
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: a question for Eric as a fashion guy, what's one
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: color that you avoid wearing and your thoughts about gray
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: on gray outfits, gray on gray on gray outfits. Yeah,
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: I'm kind of wearing a lot of gray today. Actually
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: that's a brownish gray. But I mean I have a
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: gray undershirt. Yeah you do. I'm wearing like a dark
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: gray khakis, but leather shoes from an animal. Nahum, any
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: color that you avoid, I couldn't see you an orange.
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: I have some orange stuff, but it's more like I
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: would wear that like in the fall or maybe like
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: if I have an orange T shirt, I'll wear that
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: in the in the summertime, like at the beach or something.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: But um, there's like a puke color green, Like green
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: is my favorite color, but it has to be like
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: like the green that the Celtics wear, like kelly green
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: or emerald green, that shade, but like a pukey color.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: You see some cars are like this color, like it's
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: just vomit looking green. I will not wear that. Well.
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: When I was a kid growing up, like a boy
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: would never be seen wearing pink. Oh, we live in
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: different times, but now you live in the right so
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: or I remember, you know, because I went to Catholic
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: school and you had to wear a uniform. Yeah. The
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: only thing you could really kind of express yourself in
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: was your shoes. Oh I thought that time. No, the
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: tie had to be this green. Yeah. So the shoes
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: you could wear like different types of shoes. Could you
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: wear sneakers, couldn't wear sneakers, couldn't wear sneak. But so
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: I we went, you know, you'd go shopping before the
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: school year, and I saw these like blue type of
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: swede shoes, so I bought them. First day of school.
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: I saw these girls with the same exact shoes, and
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: I never wore them again. Did you get made fun of? No? No,
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: but I just never wore them again. Did you buy
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: girls shoes? I don't know to this day, I don't
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: know really whether or not they were. But we all
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: went to the same mall, so you know, she probably
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: I never wore them again, you know, because you're that
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: insecure when you're a kid. You know, where are you
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: on socks? Because I know people are big into whether
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: I'm on my feet. I mean, yeah, I'm not into
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: like like these guys kookie designs. First of all, they
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: wear these short pants and their suits. That's another thing
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: we can get into. Oh, I know, but it's a thing.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: It's hideous, I know. But they all wear it. And
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: then they wear these you know, crazy colored socks with
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: the short pants don't match. Yeah yeah, and I'm not
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: into it, right, I really the socks have to match
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: something in the outfit. What what I've what I don't
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: care about anymore, is like white socks with dark pants.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: I don't care, like, like you shouldn't. You probably shouldn't
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: do that. Yeah yeah, Like, um, like, I'm wearing white
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: socks now with black shoes, and I would never have
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: done that years ago, But now I don't care like
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: Michael Jackson, and I don't care about sandals and socks.
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: It's much more comfortable and hygienic. You're never gonna convince.
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: And I don't care what anyone says, Well, you don't
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: have to. It's it's you know, don't knock it until
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: you try it. It is much more comfortable and much
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: more hygienic. I don't wear sandals or I wear flip flops. Yeah,
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: well then you don't wear socks with your flip flops.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: But I've seen that in the locker room. Well no,
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: the slides, no, no, no, no, no, no. Larry zoh. Yeah.
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: Remember Larry, he used to wear socks like his his
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: game or practice socks. Yeah, and he would put his
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: flip flops on. So like with the thong with the thought,
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: I was sticking to that that it does. It doesn't
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: look at those doesn't feel but I can see like
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: they have the slides where you can slide them out
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: of practice. It's different. You just throw yourself. I'm talking
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: about the flip flops where you have that little group. No,
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: I know that. I don't like that look. It's like
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: it's like you, you know, it's bizarre for your toes.
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: You're getting a wedgie and your toe. I don't like it,
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: don't care for it. Yeah. Um. Patrick follows up in
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: his Kurt Cobain he says it's not a joke. He
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: Cobain sustains a long vocal fry at the end of
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: the song moist. Oh. I can't say that, um, but anyway,
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: um yeah, I don't know. Maybe he was the first
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: to do it. I thought it was the Kardashians. I
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: thought that they were the ones that kind of popularized it.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: So because you know, they start so many things that
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: people copy. It's unbelievable. You know. I wish they would
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: go away. Oh god, second, they have a new show now,
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: I guess I don't know. I won't be benching that. Nope,
