- 0:14Speaker 1: Return to Glory Podcast season seven. Season seven as Wild,
- 0:22Speaker 1: We're back with the same co host Austin Rose, Hunter Zarbniki,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and Dakota Free Tech. It is Dakota's third year in
- 0:31Speaker 1: Austin in my seventh year of the podcast. Seven miserable
- 0:35Speaker 1: years of Husker football. But this is the year that
- 0:39Speaker 1: things go well. Austin, congratulations on becoming a father. That
- 0:48Speaker 1: is thank you number one upmost importance to kick off
- 0:51Speaker 1: this year. That's why Nebraska football is going to have
- 0:53Speaker 1: a new or a great season because we've got a
- 0:55Speaker 1: new fan.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I'm glad that there's someone that I can just brainwash
- 1:01Speaker 3: into blind Husker passion, hopefully so that I have someone
- 1:06Speaker 3: to be miserable with that understands my pain in my household.
- 1:10Speaker 3: That's really the whole goal. It's just so if we
- 1:13Speaker 3: could win something like you know, maybe like in like
- 1:16Speaker 3: five to seven years, be really good for like a
- 1:20Speaker 3: stretch to really establish that fan presence, that'd be cool.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Well. First off, congrats Austin, Thank you, dak Second off,
- 1:28Speaker 4: Second off, that first part you said about this is
- 1:30Speaker 4: this is the year everything changes. You could just cut
- 1:32Speaker 4: that from every podcast you've ever done. For the first episode.
- 1:38Speaker 1: You think we've said that every year?
- 1:40Speaker 4: Yeah, now this year. There's definite years you've said it.
- 1:44Speaker 4: You don't believe it. You believe it this year? Do we.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That's the real question, do we?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Dak?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Before we get going, I also got to give you
- 1:55Speaker 1: a congratulations as well. Dak just recently has gotten and
- 2:00Speaker 1: on Snapchat for using insensitive slurs and language. But congratulations
- 2:06Speaker 1: on finding the loophole around that and getting a new
- 2:09Speaker 1: Snapchat account.
- 2:10Speaker 4: So you, hey, don't don't don't say it too loud, hey,
- 2:14Speaker 4: because I still get a banned.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It's going on the world wide Web now for everybody
- 2:19Speaker 1: to hear. So congratulations, I'm finding that loophole from getting
- 2:22Speaker 1: banned on Snapchat.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Uh huh Yeah. One of the podcasters here reported me
- 2:27Speaker 4: and I got banned.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Wow.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So anyways, congrats to both of you, Austin.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Your equivalent accomplishments, really equivalent accomplishments.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Yes, we both are our best.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yes, is that your best deck?
- 2:47Speaker 4: Nough exactly it is.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think it is his best. Well, there's been a
- 2:55Speaker 1: lot over the past three to four months since we've
- 2:58Speaker 1: been on the season obviously is coming right around the
- 3:03Speaker 1: corner here for Husker football. Fall camp started this week
- 3:07Speaker 1: or recording this on Wednesday evening, July thirtieth, And Yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I think the big topic of conversation, maybe not Nebraska related,
- 3:19Speaker 1: but just college football in general, has to do with
- 3:23Speaker 1: all of the revenue sharing, NIL, legislative, federal oversight talk
- 3:31Speaker 1: that has been going on, and there's been a lot
- 3:33Speaker 1: of it. We're not going to sit here and bore
- 3:35Speaker 1: everyone of all the details, but I do think it's
- 3:38Speaker 1: important to mention at the top that college football is
- 3:42Speaker 1: changing faster than ever. It's very different to coach, to play,
- 3:48Speaker 1: to be a fan of college football than it ever
- 3:51Speaker 1: has been, and it's going to continue to evolve, and
- 3:53Speaker 1: some people dislike it. So it's driving some people away.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You know what, For me, reality, it's gonna happen. It's
- 4:02Speaker 1: moving that way, already has moved that way, and if
- 4:05Speaker 1: you want to follow it along, great, If you don't,
- 4:07Speaker 1: then don't. It's just like anything else in the entertainment industry.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Players are getting paid and we're figuring out how the
- 4:17Speaker 1: logistics of that work. Actually, just a couple of days ago,
- 4:20Speaker 1: President Trump came out and stated, you know, student athletes
- 4:24Speaker 1: are not employees, which we thought we were kind of
- 4:26Speaker 1: moving towards that direction, banned some third party pay for
- 4:30Speaker 1: play type of NIL deals. So there's a little bit
- 4:33Speaker 1: of political side dabbling into this, But I guess I
- 4:38Speaker 1: wanted to get your guys' opening thoughts on on just
- 4:41Speaker 1: where we're going in college football and how I guess
- 4:43Speaker 1: listeners in Nebraska fans should view the thing as a whole.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I'd say for the most part, this was kind of
- 4:51Speaker 3: stuff that is already happening behind the scenes for a
- 4:53Speaker 3: long time. It's just now it's kind of a political football.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And to be honest, it's like, do I really care
- 5:02Speaker 3: no or right? Ticket prices going up, regardless of whether
- 5:06Speaker 3: they're getting shared if players or not. Tobally, Am I
- 5:10Speaker 3: gonna stop watching football because I disagree with the compensation
- 5:13Speaker 3: package for athletes? No, shamelessly, you know, like I like
- 5:18Speaker 3: the product, I'm not gonna I'm gonna keep watching.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna keep watching basketball. IM gonna keep watching volleyball.
- 5:27Speaker 3: So I think, yes, there are a lot of people
- 5:28Speaker 3: who care about it, and a lot of people should
- 5:30Speaker 3: care about it because there's a lot of money and
- 5:32Speaker 3: some of those some of those players, they impact their lives,
- 5:35Speaker 3: like it's gonna be the biggest paycheck they'll ever get.
- 5:38Speaker 3: And that's important, and it's definitely you know, it's a
- 5:41Speaker 3: billion dollar industry, so it's totally fair that the people
- 5:44Speaker 3: in which you are building your billion dollar industry get
- 5:46Speaker 3: a cut of the money.
- 5:49Speaker 2: And they'll figure it out. That's their problem. I'm here
- 5:51Speaker 2: to watch football.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Well, like you, like you said, do you know what's
- 5:58Speaker 4: been going on forever?
- 5:59Speaker 1: Oh?
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I think now it's out in the open. It
- 6:04Speaker 4: evens the playing field a lot now now that you
- 6:08Speaker 4: can just openly pay players, because back then, you can't
- 6:13Speaker 4: tell me Alabama wasn't paying all these players or l
- 6:15Speaker 4: s U or whatever you like, like like they were
- 6:18Speaker 4: thrown underneath the rug and all these top schools were
- 6:21Speaker 4: doing this and and that's why you had Alabama winning
- 6:28Speaker 4: every senior year.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Basically you think you think you think they were just
- 6:31Speaker 1: paying people, that's what they were winning.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it evens out the playing field, Like look at
- 6:38Speaker 4: this year, God was it? No No Dame Ohio State
- 6:44Speaker 4: two two new teams in the title game. Haven't been
- 6:46Speaker 4: there for a while, and everybody there wasn't unefeat team
- 6:54Speaker 4: going the playoffs?
- 6:54Speaker 1: Right, No, yes, organ.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Oh you're right. Oregan was undefeated.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Yeah, but they had a shoot quarterback anyway, So I
- 7:09Speaker 4: I think it throws a lot more parody out there
- 7:10Speaker 4: that's out in the open. And then with the transfer
- 7:12Speaker 4: portal too, you don't so say you have a top
- 7:20Speaker 4: guy come in and you have a freshman behind him.
- 7:23Speaker 4: That's that they want to play ahead of him. That
- 7:26Speaker 4: top guy will just leave and the freshman come in
- 7:28Speaker 4: and just go somewhere else. So it puts these top
- 7:31Speaker 4: guys to move. These top guys can move to other
- 7:36Speaker 4: schools basically older guys, yeah, older top top what everyone
- 7:42Speaker 4: calls junior seniors.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah. I think what you're saying makes sense. Overall,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you are going to see, like you said, more level.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You aren't going to see many dynasties anymore. I'm just
- 8:00Speaker 1: going to be harder to do that, like we've seen
- 8:03Speaker 1: the past one hundred years of college football. Because while
- 8:06Speaker 1: the things you're mentioning, I don't really agree that. I
- 8:11Speaker 1: guess the Alabama won because they were paying players. I
- 8:14Speaker 1: think that was because they had a phenomenal program. I
- 8:17Speaker 1: think Nebraska was on the cutting edge of weightlifting and
- 8:23Speaker 1: maybe some other things that some people might accuse us
- 8:25Speaker 1: of at the time, I think Nick Saban and Georgia,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think those coaching trees, I think those all stemmed
- 8:36Speaker 1: from like a toughness era and when technology was coming
- 8:41Speaker 1: up in society was getting softer. So I think there's
- 8:44Speaker 1: a reason other than paying people why there were dynasties
- 8:47Speaker 1: and white teams are good before. But now we're here
- 8:49Speaker 1: where money is getting flowed around left and right. And
- 8:52Speaker 1: the biggest thing I want to mention here that is
- 8:55Speaker 1: an update from when we last talked about all this,
- 8:57Speaker 1: that the revenue sharing deal pasted or in place. So
- 9:01Speaker 1: just to summarize, there is a big lawsuit that was
- 9:05Speaker 1: backdating payments to players. I don't know exact year, maybe
- 9:10Speaker 1: twenty twenty, twenty eighteen, something like that, like two point
- 9:12Speaker 1: eight billion dollars was a settlement to be paid over
- 9:16Speaker 1: ten years by the NCAA.
- 9:18Speaker 2: But with this.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Agreement in the settlement came this revenue sharing deal that
- 9:22Speaker 1: basically each school is now allowed around twenty and a
- 9:25Speaker 1: half million to be paid to their athletes from the
- 9:27Speaker 1: school directly. What it's interesting about that is how schools
- 9:32Speaker 1: are going to allocate those funds to their different programs.
- 9:35Speaker 1: For example, Nebraska obviously prides their football team most schools do.
- 9:41Speaker 1: The estimate online that I kind of found was seventy
- 9:43Speaker 1: five percent of that money in general from all schools
- 9:45Speaker 1: is going to football, fifteen percents going to men's basketball,
- 9:48Speaker 1: five percent to women's basketball, and then five percent to
- 9:51Speaker 1: other Houston basketball, for example, is getting closer to twenty
- 9:55Speaker 1: five to thirty percent of that chunk a change. Nebraska volleyball,
- 9:59Speaker 1: i'm guessing, is getting more than the average school because
- 10:02Speaker 1: of who we are.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Is ne brasketbolleyball more than the men's basketball team.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I don't know the exact numbers for Nebraska, and I
- 10:11Speaker 1: probably I don't think anybody's gonna know really until this
- 10:14Speaker 1: kind of all plays out, But that's just an estimation
- 10:17Speaker 1: of how this money's going to work from the school. Now.
- 10:19Speaker 1: This is in addition right to some of the souff's
- 10:23Speaker 1: happening in NIL, but I think it's a start to
- 10:26Speaker 1: put the reins on NIL a little bit and say, Nope,
- 10:29Speaker 1: these universities are now going to be able to pay
- 10:31Speaker 1: the schools and we don't have to worry about paying
- 10:33Speaker 1: the athletes through these third parties and all these other
- 10:36Speaker 1: NIL deals. That was just the wild, wild West.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Knew we're gonna talk about the revenue share, and my
- 10:41Speaker 3: hot take was, forget about the football program, dump it
- 10:46Speaker 3: all in, so we just become like freaking rock stars
- 10:49Speaker 3: and women's basketball, men's basketball, volleyball, women's soccer, like just
- 10:53Speaker 3: completely pivot like men's football. They got plenty of money.
- 10:57Speaker 3: You know what more money do they mean? Let's just
- 10:59Speaker 3: make it a freaking show.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I love that. I heard another podcast locked on Nebraska podcast,
- 11:05Speaker 1: the Daily Nebraska Podcast on on three, they talked about
- 11:08Speaker 1: the same thing, like, at what point do you just say,
- 11:10Speaker 1: screw football.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Let's go we got money, right, Let's.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Pay some other sport and let's go win the Natty titles.
- 11:17Speaker 1: That's funny because I think that's out there now. Will
- 11:19Speaker 1: it ever happen? No? No, but it's it's it is.
- 11:22Speaker 1: It's a fun take to think about now that you
- 11:24Speaker 1: have money. I actually know a kind of through an
- 11:26Speaker 1: inside story of Eastern Michigan men's golf that's paying some
- 11:32Speaker 1: I don't know who, this golfer is, like two million
- 11:34Speaker 1: dollars of that money to go basically go win a
- 11:37Speaker 1: Natty title in men's golf. Like that was their goal
- 11:40Speaker 1: is just to get a bunch of good guys and
- 11:41Speaker 1: go do that, which because they're like Eastern Michigan's never
- 11:44Speaker 1: gonna win a Natty title in football, You're you're you're
- 11:46Speaker 1: not winning it in any major sports. So let's go
- 11:48Speaker 1: find this and let's go do it.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yeah. No, that's why I forget it. I could see.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I understand why you want because you're like your boosters
- 11:55Speaker 3: are pumping in all this money. It's like the university
- 11:58Speaker 3: isn't putting in their fair share. But it'd be freaking
- 12:01Speaker 3: sick if we're just like, all right, we're already pretty
- 12:03Speaker 3: good at some of these things. Let's just let's just
- 12:06Speaker 3: go let's just go am Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 4: So, so can you change this every year? Like where
- 12:12Speaker 4: you're throwing all this money?
- 12:15Speaker 1: I don't think there's a lot of insights to where
- 12:17Speaker 1: it's going, and I don't know if the public is
- 12:18Speaker 1: ever going to know exactly how it's allocated. Maybe it
- 12:21Speaker 1: will be public or.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Because if the university painted out, so at least for
- 12:26Speaker 3: a state university.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You're gonna have an idea and that that dollar amount
- 12:29Speaker 1: is increasing incremental incrementally over the next several years. So
- 12:35Speaker 1: I mean maybe I just I just think that's that's
- 12:37Speaker 1: something else that universities, and especially the top level universities
- 12:42Speaker 1: have to decide. And that's why you're seeing general manager
- 12:45Speaker 1: type of people get hired for all these sports and
- 12:47Speaker 1: athletic department because there is now a commercial, wized, professional
- 12:53Speaker 1: aspect of college sports that you have to deal with
- 12:55Speaker 1: that wasn't there before.
- 12:59Speaker 4: So yeah, basketball wise, you got to think duke in
- 13:03Speaker 4: North Carolina are probably throwing like into basketball.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Oh Bill Belichick constantly least forgot about that.
- 13:10Speaker 4: You know, I forgot about that lines out of the picture.
- 13:16Speaker 4: But so it'd be tough to even is to say
- 13:19Speaker 4: you did one. You just throw your money basketball. It'd
- 13:21Speaker 4: be tough to You'd have to throw a ship ton
- 13:24Speaker 4: and just say screw all every other program to do
- 13:27Speaker 4: that for basketball.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Last thing I'll say around this topic, and we'll have
- 13:33Speaker 1: a lot more of these two. Just as you're listening
- 13:35Speaker 1: and following college sports, college football is fall, just keep
- 13:39Speaker 1: in mind to that decisions are now being made and
- 13:43Speaker 1: really you're getting judged as a head coach now, as
- 13:46Speaker 1: a businessman, as a as an owner a little bit
- 13:49Speaker 1: because you're deciding on which players to keep, which ones
- 13:53Speaker 1: to recruit and pay. I heard a great example on
- 13:56Speaker 1: the other day that Jamari Butler. We probably could have
- 13:58Speaker 1: paid a guy like that to stay around, but he's
- 14:00Speaker 1: an upperclassman, all right. Instead we go after Williams n
- 14:05Speaker 1: Werry however you say his last name, will learn it
- 14:07Speaker 1: here as a freshman and paid him a big chunk
- 14:10Speaker 1: of change right at early early on. So you're making decisions, now,
- 14:15Speaker 1: where are we throwing this money out within the program
- 14:19Speaker 1: based on potential uh At the same time, you're trying
- 14:22Speaker 1: to keep them here. Like Dak mentioned, the transfer portal
- 14:24Speaker 1: still live and out there, so that's also something to factor.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And on top of that, the walk on program is
- 14:32Speaker 1: going away the roster limit, and the roster side is
- 14:35Speaker 1: you're you're gonna have to cut you gotta, you gotta,
- 14:37Speaker 1: you gotta have a set amount of guys on your roster.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And that's another thing that adds all into this, that
- 14:42Speaker 1: if you're one of these fringe level guys and you're
- 14:45Speaker 1: not making money, you have no reason to stay like
- 14:48Speaker 1: because you're probably gonna get cut. So there's a whole
- 14:50Speaker 1: lot of aspects that go into piecing all this together.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Now that aren't doesn't have anything to do with the
- 14:56Speaker 1: play on the field, but you will see the decisions
- 15:00Speaker 1: being made and coaches being evaluated as well, Why in
- 15:03Speaker 1: the hell did you just pay this guy eight hundred
- 15:06Speaker 1: thousand dollars? We have some offensive blindman coming in that
- 15:08Speaker 1: we're doing that too, and if they turn out to
- 15:11Speaker 1: be trash, not only are you like, what do we
- 15:12Speaker 1: do recruiting that guy? We just wasted X amount of
- 15:15Speaker 1: dollars on this guy. Those conversations are going to be
- 15:18Speaker 1: for the better or the worse out there as well.
- 15:23Speaker 3: I agree. I mean that's why there's just more. There's
- 15:26Speaker 3: more overhead positions in college football. It seems like Matt
- 15:29Speaker 3: Rule's hiring subd somebody to be head of you know,
- 15:34Speaker 3: player payment processing. It's like, oh, a new head of
- 15:37Speaker 3: player processing from.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Easter, Michigan.
- 15:39Speaker 3: But you know, it seems like every other day there's
- 15:41Speaker 3: some guy getting hired. Which that's when you're running a
- 15:45Speaker 3: you know, million dollar company.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it's basically a pro yes program now because you
- 15:52Speaker 4: have yeah, which Nebraska does have a GM right, Yes.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's not there yet. I don't think any
- 16:01Speaker 1: it's not there, but it's moving that direction. I'll say it.
- 16:04Speaker 1: It's not a professional, but it's.
- 16:07Speaker 2: There's no contracts yet it's moving that way.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I still think it's going to go that way. Now.
- 16:12Speaker 1: The Trump thing kind of throws it for a little
- 16:13Speaker 1: bit of a loop some of the stuff that he
- 16:16Speaker 1: came out and.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Suppose an executive order, which has absolutely no legal it's
- 16:23Speaker 3: no law.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But people are making opinions at a federal level now
- 16:28Speaker 1: about it, which is more than anything is done since
- 16:32Speaker 1: everything started back in twenty twenty, and people, I think
- 16:36Speaker 1: kind of wanted that, but I think some people just
- 16:39Speaker 1: got used to the rapid evolvement of all of this
- 16:44Speaker 1: stuff that's going on. That again, we could spend three
- 16:48Speaker 1: episodes talking about it, but I just wanted to set
- 16:50Speaker 1: that field up before we talk about Nebraska because all
- 16:53Speaker 1: that stuff is intermixed with rosters and schedules and conference realignment,
- 16:58Speaker 1: which we didn't even talk about. All of that stuff
- 17:01Speaker 1: is the noise that is out there that everybody's hearing about,
- 17:06Speaker 1: right that does not really directly impact the field, but
- 17:11Speaker 1: indirectly does each team. So any other offseason big picture
- 17:18Speaker 1: college football news SEC versus Big Ten. That's kind of
- 17:22Speaker 1: a little duel right now. But you know, I think
- 17:27Speaker 1: there's a need more that comes out of that and
- 17:29Speaker 1: schools moving TV contracts. Who's the big, bigger batter conference.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think that's all. It's going to be an ongoing
- 17:38Speaker 1: rivalry right now, which I don't think is bad for
- 17:40Speaker 1: the sport.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I mean, I mean we've said it. I think I've
- 17:43Speaker 4: said this before. The SEC and Big Ten basically run
- 17:47Speaker 4: the sport. Now there's no NCAA.
- 17:51Speaker 2: It's football for sure.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Nca is trying now to finagle their way in there.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I think it's a little too late to do that. Yes,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I mean, the conferences are holding a lot of power
- 18:04Speaker 1: right now because that's where all the money's at.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Yeah, that's yeah. They the NCAA just let it go
- 18:17Speaker 4: too long or too long without stepping into anything and out.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Now they're just not a thing anymore. And basically the
- 18:25Speaker 4: conferences run at all.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Okay, next topic, very broad. I'm just gonna throw out
- 18:36Speaker 1: Matt Rule in his name to start this next dopege conversation.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So background here and there is probably some common knowledge
- 18:44Speaker 1: to any passionate Husker football fan. Year three of Matt
- 18:48Speaker 1: Rule has been historically good for those programs at Temple
- 18:54Speaker 1: where he started and then moving over to Baylor or
- 18:57Speaker 1: each year incrementally or drastically got better and year three
- 19:01Speaker 1: was kind of the turnaround yere. Now it did not
- 19:04Speaker 1: work at Carolina. That's the NFL. Husker diehards are gonna say, well,
- 19:08Speaker 1: it's the NFL is different than college. They could be right,
- 19:11Speaker 1: But it's year three here at Nebraska for Matt Rule.
- 19:15Speaker 1: His first two years five and seven, and then last
- 19:18Speaker 1: year seven and six with the win and the pen
- 19:20Speaker 1: Strike Bowl, putting him at twelve and thirteen overall, another
- 19:24Speaker 1: big record stat to throw out there. Everybody blamed Scott
- 19:28Speaker 1: Frost and his program for the one score losses Matt
- 19:31Speaker 1: Rule in this time in Nebraska, it's two to nine
- 19:35Speaker 1: in one score games, which is the worst percentage of
- 19:37Speaker 1: everybody in one score game. So I guess the question
- 19:41Speaker 1: or the top conversation for Matt Rule. I guess where's
- 19:45Speaker 1: he sit at? Because it is year three. I think
- 19:48Speaker 1: everybody has a different perspective on him as a leader,
- 19:53Speaker 1: as a at football coach, as a person. So yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I guess and start with you.
- 20:02Speaker 3: So I've been thinking about this because I've been watching
- 20:06Speaker 3: the press conferences.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And I like Matt Roll.
- 20:12Speaker 4: I do.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I think he's a good guy. I think he's a good.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Coach, but gosh, am I tired of listening to him talk.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Not like in like this guy talks too much, but
- 20:21Speaker 3: it's like I feel like we're shoveling the it's just and.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I understand you're staying on message. This is what we're doing.
- 20:30Speaker 3: We're not going to deviate, but gosh, it's it's getting
- 20:33Speaker 3: a little boring, get a little dry.
- 20:35Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:35Speaker 3: I don't know how many times I have to hear like,
- 20:37Speaker 3: oh man, we're a team you know of lions, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 3: and we what we kill, and you know, it's I'm
- 20:47Speaker 3: ready for games to start so you can actually start
- 20:49Speaker 3: critiquing the team a little bit.
- 20:51Speaker 2: But his off season stuff, it's very complimentary, all the
- 20:57Speaker 2: right things.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Here's what I think you're saying. And I completely agree.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's like when you go into a car dealership and
- 21:05Speaker 1: you just listen to the same car salesman, like it's
- 21:08Speaker 1: the same pitch, it's the same remember who you get,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and you just kind of go, yeah, here we go again.
- 21:14Speaker 1: That that's kind of what I get in the vibe.
- 21:16Speaker 2: And he's saying the right things, and you believe him.
- 21:19Speaker 3: You're like, I know you're not You're not trying to
- 21:21Speaker 3: pull one over on me, but you know, am I
- 21:27Speaker 3: gonna drive this car off a lot and it's gonna
- 21:28Speaker 3: be eleven?
- 21:29Speaker 2: You're gonna feel bad that it's eleven. You didn't know
- 21:30Speaker 2: it was Lemon, you had no idea.
- 21:32Speaker 3: You know, it's it's the twenty twenty five Kias Reno
- 21:35Speaker 3: and how it was also none of the bad transmissions
- 21:37Speaker 3: and that they blow at sixty miles six after the war.
- 21:41Speaker 3: You know, it's like, I like him. I think he's
- 21:44Speaker 3: a good coach. I'm excited for your three. I really
- 21:46Speaker 3: hope everything you're saying. But I got halfway through his
- 21:50Speaker 3: last press conferences, like I I'm tuning. You know, I
- 21:55Speaker 3: just catch myself tuning out because I'm not getting a
- 21:57Speaker 3: lot of updates and he's very secretive, which is what
- 22:00Speaker 3: you want. You want your coach to be like, I'm
- 22:02Speaker 3: not putting everything out.
- 22:03Speaker 1: There, but and to piggyback off that Austin, I think
- 22:10Speaker 1: one of my thoughts I've had over the last well,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I guess since he came here, right, you look at
- 22:15Speaker 1: it as a little bit of a relationship with them.
- 22:17Speaker 1: You have a honeymoon phase with anything new. There's excitement
- 22:20Speaker 1: there's hype. All these same comments come off as man,
- 22:24Speaker 1: he's just selling our team, he's selling the program. This
- 22:27Speaker 1: is progress, selling progress, and you're kind of excited about it.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Then after a little while you start with this is
- 22:32Speaker 1: with any coach or any anything that's new. You go okay, okay,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you're still hearing it. All right, Well, now I hope
- 22:39Speaker 1: he's right. I hope it works out. I think it can.
- 22:42Speaker 1: But we're hearing the same stuff. Like Big ten media
- 22:46Speaker 1: Days for me was like okay.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Like, yep, you could have played you could have played
- 22:50Speaker 3: me twenty twenty four's big tim of the days.
- 22:52Speaker 2: That's twenty five, and I probably would have believed most
- 22:55Speaker 2: you know, yep.
- 22:56Speaker 1: So that's what happens. THO, when you're in year three,
- 22:58Speaker 1: I just think we're out. We're at a spot where
- 23:01Speaker 1: the honeymoon phase is kind of worn off. With any
- 23:03Speaker 1: new coach, with any new leader.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Or maybe that's every coach, we just hardly make it.
- 23:07Speaker 3: We hit your three and it's just a utter disaster
- 23:10Speaker 3: for the last three head coaches, you know. So it's like,
- 23:12Speaker 3: all right, we're I think.
- 23:15Speaker 1: It's a product of that, but also the product of
- 23:17Speaker 1: the burnout that we've had with previous coaches. Scott Frost
- 23:19Speaker 1: in year four revamps his entire coaching staff, whether he
- 23:24Speaker 1: was forced to or whatever, and it got people juiced
- 23:27Speaker 1: up again. Not everybody, but I think the fan base
- 23:30Speaker 1: in general now is a little bit more, a little
- 23:33Speaker 1: bit more of an and show me mode, which.
- 23:35Speaker 3: I would say in a general comment, not necessarily Matt
- 23:38Speaker 3: rule related, but also revamped coaching staff, all new headquarters
- 23:43Speaker 3: head coordinators for offense, defense, and special teams. And it's
- 23:47Speaker 3: like it's being talked about, but it's also not. It's like, Okay, yes,
- 23:51Speaker 3: his years three supposed to be his big year, but
- 23:53Speaker 3: he's already had to pivot to all new coordinators and
- 23:58Speaker 3: his offensive staff has four former I mean, his former
- 24:04Speaker 3: offensive coordinator is still on staff, and he has a
- 24:07Speaker 3: two other ones that he brought in last year that
- 24:09Speaker 3: are now on staff.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Thatak, you called it how bad Sadderfield was no O
- 24:13Speaker 1: c right from the get go, and that's that's on you, Scott,
- 24:17Speaker 1: or that rule for for hiring him. Okay, Tony White,
- 24:23Speaker 1: but he's gone and that got closed up in like
- 24:26Speaker 1: less than a month from when he's gone. Now we
- 24:28Speaker 1: don't ever know what happened, and and the and we
- 24:31Speaker 1: never it's never gonna get brought up again. So you're right, Austin.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It is kind of similar to Rule in the year four,
- 24:37Speaker 1: like it's revamped. Now, let's see.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Where it goes. But it's also like he.
- 24:45Speaker 3: It's revamped partly because of necessity, and like we won
- 24:50Speaker 3: a bowl game, like we went in the right direction
- 24:53Speaker 3: and we still revamped everything. I just don't know how
- 24:56Speaker 3: to feel about it. I maybe, you know, throw it
- 25:01Speaker 3: to the panel. I feel good about all the coordinators
- 25:04Speaker 3: we saw. Volger said, Butler was really good at Buffalo,
- 25:07Speaker 3: and he was on staff before White left, and White
- 25:09Speaker 3: left because of whatever. He's probably gonna leave anyways at
- 25:12Speaker 3: some point, and we're happy that we got to do
- 25:16Speaker 3: special teams coordinator. Then he came in and switched up
- 25:19Speaker 3: the entire punting approach, and then all of our punting
- 25:22Speaker 3: recruits he'll leave because we brought in like a jillion
- 25:24Speaker 3: punters because this is how we're gonna punt, and then
- 25:26Speaker 3: we're like, no, we're punting rugby style.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Now.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I didn't write down our new punters name, but all
- 25:31Speaker 1: we could talk about him in some other episode. It
- 25:34Speaker 1: sounds like he's arch.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Archie something and he's a big dude too.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I'm I'm Jack. I think Mike Eckler, out of any
- 25:42Speaker 1: of the Hires or any maybe any single thing for
- 25:45Speaker 1: us for football that I'm like really excited about, I
- 25:49Speaker 1: probably believe in the most you would talk about a
- 25:51Speaker 1: guy that doesn't drink the kool aid, that's drinking the
- 25:53Speaker 1: kool aid is Mike Eckler and the Special Teams one,
- 25:55Speaker 1: because god, can it get any worse than it has
- 25:58Speaker 1: been the past few years. And this guy, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: born bread Nebraska, like coming back to been everywhere, Like
- 26:04Speaker 1: I have the most faith in that man. That will
- 26:06Speaker 1: be the one thing that breaks my heart of our
- 26:08Speaker 1: Special teams like just sucks again. But that's kind of
- 26:11Speaker 1: going off the rails a little bit, Dak.
- 26:13Speaker 2: I think you.
- 26:15Speaker 1: As an outsider but now a fan as you you're
- 26:17Speaker 1: sitting here wearing a Husker at tonight, Like, what do
- 26:21Speaker 1: you think Matt rule year three?
- 26:23Speaker 4: The outlook is, so you said you were saying out
- 26:28Speaker 4: every coach your three is turned into disaster, or is
- 26:32Speaker 4: when the disaster basically hits. Yeah, you gotta think though,
- 26:38Speaker 4: with Frost and then Raley not as bad, but even
- 26:42Speaker 4: before year three it was a disaster.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I disagree with that. Not it could have been maybe
- 26:49Speaker 1: to an outsider, but internally it was not.
- 26:54Speaker 4: You didn't you didn't think going three and nine was
- 26:55Speaker 4: a disaster.
- 26:57Speaker 1: No, we were the best three nineteen ever, haven't you heard?
- 27:00Speaker 4: Huh? Yeah?
- 27:01Speaker 2: I mean, but it really felt like we were right.
- 27:04Speaker 3: It felt like we were right there, like it's like, okay,
- 27:06Speaker 3: I've seen the progress we are on the cusp, Like, yes,
- 27:10Speaker 3: we're three and nine, but we're a razor razor edge
- 27:14Speaker 3: three and nine, so it's like all right, next years.
- 27:15Speaker 1: The looking back on it, would Huster fans say it
- 27:18Speaker 1: was a disaster from the get go. Yeah, we would
- 27:20Speaker 1: laugh and say, man, we Scott Frost started off Owen
- 27:23Speaker 1: six at Nebraska, like what were we doing?
- 27:27Speaker 4: But and he he had a lot more leeway because
- 27:29Speaker 4: of his name.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, Well so I wouldn't necessarily say they
- 27:33Speaker 1: were a disaster, but maybe externally they kind of were.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I mean, it ended up being a disaster.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah, looks so h The thing if the rule is,
- 27:44Speaker 4: like you guy said, every press conference is just everything's
- 27:46Speaker 4: going great right now, there's nothing bad going on, which
- 27:52Speaker 4: which I guess a lot of coaches are like that,
- 27:54Speaker 4: you're not gonna come out and say this team sucks,
- 27:57Speaker 4: like especially.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, we're just tired of it because you know,
- 28:02Speaker 3: like I'm not watching LSUS, you know, I'm not watching
- 28:06Speaker 3: Brian kelly his and maybe everyone there is tired of
- 28:09Speaker 3: what he says because he's been saying the same thing.
- 28:11Speaker 4: You really don't want to watch it either because those
- 28:13Speaker 4: have to suck.
- 28:14Speaker 1: We're tired of it often because we want to win,
- 28:16Speaker 1: like and we want to win now and we've been
- 28:19Speaker 1: waiting for song. That's why we're tired of it because
- 28:21Speaker 1: it's like, yes, this is right, this is true. But
- 28:24Speaker 1: like if you're any if your LSU, because we're stuck
- 28:27Speaker 1: on them like LSU's now, they might their expectations might
- 28:30Speaker 1: be different, so they might be tired of not I
- 28:32Speaker 1: don't know, making a New Year's Six Bowl or making
- 28:35Speaker 1: the playoffs, but like they're beating teams that they should beat.
- 28:40Speaker 1: They're not throwing out these crazy records of hitting hitting
- 28:43Speaker 1: the unders in their win total in every year since
- 28:46Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, Like they're not doing that. So I think
- 28:50Speaker 1: that's a little bit why there's so much ants with
- 28:53Speaker 1: Husker fans and listening to Rule, but also previous coaches
- 28:58Speaker 1: talk the way they're talking and and not getting results.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Now this is a year we can get results like
- 29:03Speaker 1: I do a year three or four with any new
- 29:07Speaker 1: coach and really any sport. You now have had time
- 29:10Speaker 1: to get your guys in, especially now with Nil, establish
- 29:14Speaker 1: what you want to do, make some tweaks along the way,
- 29:16Speaker 1: which we've made some major tweaks. So it is I
- 29:20Speaker 1: I don't think Rule will be here in year five.
- 29:23Speaker 1: If we go six and six two more years, I
- 29:25Speaker 1: don't think that will happen because you now are.
- 29:28Speaker 4: More than that. I think there's one reason why why
- 29:33Speaker 4: you guys are like, we got to win now, and
- 29:37Speaker 4: it's the quarterback position.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I want you want to move on from Rule
- 29:43Speaker 1: and go to RYL.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Is that what you're trying to g.
- 29:49Speaker 4: There's one topic I want to bring up about Rule
- 29:50Speaker 4: that it's about the first game of the year, and
- 29:57Speaker 4: we can revisit this before the first game. Do you
- 30:00Speaker 4: guys think that Cincinnati is the biggest game of his
- 30:04Speaker 4: career so far at Nebraska? I can think of one
- 30:07Speaker 4: other one that might be close, but Colorado, Yeah, that
- 30:11Speaker 4: was the one I was thinking.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Colorado all faith is lost.
- 30:16Speaker 1: At home lose. I mean, I think that was a huge, huge,
- 30:18Speaker 1: huge game and we won that one.
- 30:21Speaker 4: You gotta think that you got louse Cincinnati start on one.
- 30:24Speaker 2: I think.
- 30:27Speaker 4: The train could fall off the tracks.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that's a very very realistic possibility.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think every game last year until we caught that
- 30:36Speaker 1: sixth win was as important because not after the start
- 30:41Speaker 1: we had last year and not making a Bowl game,
- 30:43Speaker 1: like I don't think we're sitting where we are today.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I don't think Dylan Reyal is here. If that happens,
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think it falls off a cliff. So I think
- 30:51Speaker 1: all those were as important, but a single game like, yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 1: going into this year, it's huge. We are better than
- 30:59Speaker 1: Cincinna from a Vegas odd standpoint, I think in hopefully
- 31:04Speaker 1: a lot of areas. But does that mean we're going
- 31:05Speaker 1: to win the game. No, I just I hope that's
- 31:10Speaker 1: in the players mindsets and the coaches of not getting
- 31:14Speaker 1: that overlooked, because it will get overlooked because of the
- 31:16Speaker 1: Michigan game in Week four. I've already saw stuff today
- 31:19Speaker 1: on that Michigan Nebraska game being one of the top
- 31:21Speaker 1: five Big ten games of the season, like the Cincinnati
- 31:25Speaker 1: game is so big for so many reasons, And I agree, Dak,
- 31:31Speaker 1: I do think the locker room losing the Cincinnati after
- 31:34Speaker 1: losing so many opening games in the past seven or
- 31:36Speaker 1: eight years, I think the locker room's going to go,
- 31:38Speaker 1: here we go again, and forget going nine to three,
- 31:43Speaker 1: Here we go again. Let's fight to get to a
- 31:45Speaker 1: Bowl game. Like that's going to be the thought in
- 31:46Speaker 1: everybody's mind, whether it's right or wrong, that's where it's
- 31:49Speaker 1: going to be. If we lose that opening game.
- 31:52Speaker 4: It reminds me of a lot of the Northwestern game
- 31:54Speaker 4: with the Frost how that you lost that the train
- 31:57Speaker 4: just completely fa off tracks. I think it could be
- 32:00Speaker 4: the same way. Or if you loseen Snati, that could
- 32:03Speaker 4: be could be it right.
- 32:05Speaker 1: There, especially if it's a one score loss, like and
- 32:09Speaker 1: we do something stupid on special teams like god knocking
- 32:12Speaker 1: on wood because I do not want that to happen.
- 32:14Speaker 1: But man, okay, let's move on. Dylan Royola our first
- 32:26Speaker 1: segment of the Dylan Royola Wait Show. He's listened to
- 32:32Speaker 1: thirty on the twenty twenty five roster.
- 32:36Speaker 4: What was you last year?
- 32:37Speaker 1: I don't I don't know. I think he looks good, guys.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I think from what I've seen, he looks a lot better.
- 32:41Speaker 1: His body looks more in shape.
- 32:44Speaker 2: He's run this year. Man.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Let's see what that translates like to you on the field.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I know, on the new college football video game, I
- 32:50Speaker 1: think he's still way too fast because he can move
- 32:53Speaker 1: a little bit on that game.
- 32:54Speaker 4: But he.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Looks like he did what we thought he needed to do,
- 33:02Speaker 1: what people started talking about in the offseason, and what
- 33:05Speaker 1: he started talking about rules start talking about like. It
- 33:08Speaker 1: looks like he's achieved that. Heading into fall camp, Dak
- 33:12Speaker 1: you mentioned I think the talk about the hype or
- 33:15Speaker 1: you know, the ties with Matt Ruhle, but this is
- 33:19Speaker 1: forget Matt rule. This is Dylan Ryola's program right now.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Whether you like it or not. He is the face
- 33:26Speaker 1: of about everything, and for a young man, has done
- 33:30Speaker 1: a fairly good job of handling everything as a nineteen
- 33:33Speaker 1: year old. It's his, though, until he doesn't want it anymore.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I don't think we are going to ever bench Tillon
- 33:41Speaker 1: Rayola or kick him out and force him out. I
- 33:44Speaker 1: don't think we're going to do that, So it's his.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think the pressure is going to be on him
- 33:53Speaker 1: to lead this team in one way or another, even
- 33:55Speaker 1: though he's only a sophomore. I think that's the hype
- 33:58Speaker 1: and the expectations last year. I think we all went through,
- 34:03Speaker 1: like to me, very much as expected or of going
- 34:07Speaker 1: into the year where we thought maybe he would be.
- 34:09Speaker 1: It's not like he blew it out of the water.
- 34:11Speaker 1: He struggled at times, definitely couldn't avoid anything in the backfield,
- 34:16Speaker 1: but he did about what he should have as a freshman.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Made some freshman mistakes.
- 34:21Speaker 2: He had a couple thre like, oh well it smokes
- 34:24Speaker 2: that dude can.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and then he had them stuff You're like, okay,
- 34:28Speaker 1: there's that raw talent. Holy cow, there's a lot here.
- 34:30Speaker 1: So he had your good and your bad and he
- 34:32Speaker 1: ended up out in the middle. This year, you know,
- 34:34Speaker 1: your expectations go up. You know there's a there's a
- 34:38Speaker 1: world where he really exceeds those in year two. There's
- 34:41Speaker 1: a world where he doesn't improve it all from last
- 34:44Speaker 1: year too. So Dylan Royola I think is a big
- 34:48Speaker 1: piece of this team. Like I said, the focal point,
- 34:49Speaker 1: the leader is his team this year, and I think
- 34:52Speaker 1: all the players know that too. I think that's a
- 34:55Speaker 1: very known thing amongst Nebraska football right now.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Here rooted half of them. It seems like him and
- 35:03Speaker 2: I'm at Johnson, just out there on the town hanging out.
- 35:08Speaker 3: No, I thought, I think it looks good. I'm excited
- 35:11Speaker 3: for those of you interested plus uh six for Heisman ods.
- 35:17Speaker 3: So make some good money if you go to put
- 35:19Speaker 3: some money.
- 35:20Speaker 2: On that deck.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Yeah, let me grab my checklick real quick.
- 35:24Speaker 3: He's lower than Indiana starting quarterback. That makes you feel
- 35:28Speaker 3: any better?
- 35:33Speaker 2: I think? I agree.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Last year we had I think we had us specifically,
- 35:37Speaker 3: had adequate expectations. We didn't think he's going to go
- 35:40Speaker 3: out there and you know, rip the roof off of everything.
- 35:43Speaker 3: But I think he played well. The quarterback position did not.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 35:48Speaker 3: When he dropped back, I didn't have to like panic
- 35:50Speaker 3: because I thought the ball is going to be intercepted.
- 35:52Speaker 2: I think people forgot how bad it was, Like.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I can't even begin to describe how bad two years
- 36:02Speaker 3: ago was Yeah fast, and people be like no, yes,
- 36:10Speaker 3: So that was not an issue last year, which is
- 36:13Speaker 3: a huge step forward. I expect him to make a
- 36:15Speaker 3: decent step forward with a whole other year under Dana Holgerson.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Do I think he's gonna in a husband. No do
- 36:23Speaker 3: I think he has the chance to be a top
- 36:24Speaker 3: three QB in the Big ten probably, which.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Which what is that saying he stopped being a Big
- 36:35Speaker 4: ten this year? Big ten is pretty bad at quarterback.
- 36:37Speaker 4: But maybe he said he said a Big ten Medy
- 36:41Speaker 4: days he's gonna run a lot more this year.
- 36:44Speaker 2: He's hoping to run more this year.
- 36:46Speaker 4: Yeah, hoping, which he should. He had so much open
- 36:49Speaker 4: Like the one game where he did run the Hio
- 36:51Speaker 4: State game. He he ran over the field that game,
- 36:54Speaker 4: and he's never did a game.
- 36:55Speaker 1: So I don't know, but I do think that was
- 36:59Speaker 1: a product of Ryan Day came out and said it
- 37:02Speaker 1: like they just said he can't do it because he
- 37:04Speaker 1: hasn't shown he won't won't whether he can't do it
- 37:06Speaker 1: or he won't do it because he don't he's afraid
- 37:10Speaker 1: to get hurt, right. I think there's a there's obviously
- 37:12Speaker 1: a fine line between throwing your body out there and
- 37:15Speaker 1: just taking shots and deciding when they're on. You see
- 37:19Speaker 1: that at every level of football, So I think it's
- 37:21Speaker 1: defining what that is in this offense, and I think
- 37:24Speaker 1: Danas has helped him with that in the offseason. Yeah,
- 37:27Speaker 1: I agree that that was a progutive bio state saying
- 37:30Speaker 1: he's not gonna do it, and Dan did it and
- 37:32Speaker 1: it helped her offense that day and then.
- 37:36Speaker 2: That Dak.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Just so I can help you understand football a little bit,
- 37:39Speaker 1: team's probably adjusted a little bit to his ability to
- 37:43Speaker 1: maybe at least do a little something running. I don't
- 37:46Speaker 1: I don't think it was he never decided to run again.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I don't think that was the case. I just think
- 37:51Speaker 1: team's probably adjusted a little bit because they're like, Okay,
- 37:53Speaker 1: he maybe can a little bit.
- 37:58Speaker 4: The You can't tell me that there wasn't like five
- 38:02Speaker 4: yards there in this other game, five yards that he's
- 38:04Speaker 4: wouldn't take because he just won't run last year.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean there's that. There's definitely times I said,
- 38:10Speaker 1: there's a fine line between deciding how aggressive you want
- 38:12Speaker 1: to be. I mean there are a couple of times
- 38:13Speaker 1: where it was what he went down when he had
- 38:16Speaker 1: the first down, went down like a yard short, Like, yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 1: we saw those times. But like I said, there's a
- 38:21Speaker 1: friend taking a hit and getting the first down, and
- 38:24Speaker 1: some people, some of the old school people would say,
- 38:27Speaker 1: you got to go for it the whole time. Well,
- 38:28Speaker 1: you're gonna do that you're you are risk and injury
- 38:31Speaker 1: and and that might be the correct approach. Some people
- 38:33Speaker 1: are gonna take the opposite approach and say, never get
- 38:35Speaker 1: hits ever, because we don't want Jalen Grahamstead to play
- 38:40Speaker 1: Like o. QV room depth is not that great now,
- 38:44Speaker 1: I've heard that too.
- 38:44Speaker 2: To be fair, No QB room how many?
- 38:48Speaker 1: How many? How many Division one programs have a really
- 38:51Speaker 1: good QB two Like, It's not like the NFL where
- 38:55Speaker 1: you can bring in a backup and say, okay, this
- 38:57Speaker 1: guy can function. There's not many.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you're talking probably top six in the
- 39:03Speaker 3: Big three Conference. You know, the backup quarterback at Texas
- 39:06Speaker 3: is probably pretty good. The backup quarterback in Alabama was
- 39:09Speaker 3: probably pretty freaking good.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:14Speaker 4: But the main thing though with him is I mean
- 39:18Speaker 4: he had six games with him last year, but having
- 39:20Speaker 4: a full off season or helped Holderson. I don't think
- 39:25Speaker 4: you actually were able to see what Holgers wanted to
- 39:29Speaker 4: do with the offense all last year because he's kind
- 39:31Speaker 4: of throw it together. That's what I'm interesting now to
- 39:35Speaker 4: see what kind of offense he actually wants to run.
- 39:38Speaker 3: And I know we're gonna get to position breakdowns in
- 39:43Speaker 3: the actual team, but like the offensive line feels pretty
- 39:45Speaker 3: solid and then Johnson feels like he's gonna be fully
- 39:47Speaker 3: involved and they kind.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Of have that connection.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Ja Cory Barney is a whole other year older. And
- 39:52Speaker 3: are you know, do you feel better our offense felt
- 39:57Speaker 3: okay last year? You don't feel it does doesn't feel
- 40:00Speaker 3: like Raol is gonna backslide because of the other parts
- 40:05Speaker 3: of the offense.
- 40:06Speaker 2: The backsides is because of him, correct and it's not
- 40:09Speaker 2: like the team got worse around him.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Dana Holgerson as a coordinator has never had anything outside
- 40:17Speaker 1: of a top twenty five scoring offense to put that
- 40:20Speaker 1: in perspective as an offensive coordinator. So now he's not
- 40:24Speaker 1: been in the Big ten, right, he's in Big ten
- 40:26Speaker 1: styles a lot different.
- 40:28Speaker 4: But but.
- 40:30Speaker 1: That being said, Dana knows offense and we know that
- 40:34Speaker 1: and Dak, I guess to your point getting more time.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Like what what do you think if he's had a
- 40:40Speaker 2: whole off season to dice, you know, what do you think?
- 40:44Speaker 1: What do you think that looks like? Like what difference?
- 40:47Speaker 1: What did on fire?
- 40:51Speaker 4: Yeah he didn't, he didn't want anything to go God
- 40:54Speaker 4: that Marcus Safel played like I think I think it's
- 40:59Speaker 4: gonna look more like it did in the Big twelve.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Like like I said last year, I think it's gonna
- 41:08Speaker 4: be more of an air raid offense now.
- 41:11Speaker 1: That I hope not. I hope not.
- 41:13Speaker 2: But he gave an opinion.
- 41:14Speaker 4: That's what he loves. N he's got the quarterback for it.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I just don't think that's sustainable in the Big ten.
- 41:24Speaker 1: I hope he realizes that. I think that that right
- 41:26Speaker 1: there would lead us down a very a path to
- 41:31Speaker 1: set for failure.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I think for last year he showed that he could
- 41:34Speaker 2: get creative with the running back.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Agree. I don't think. I don't think that he can't.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I'm just saying that I hope we don't go air raid.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I agree, and I don't think he will. I don't
- 41:42Speaker 2: think we will let.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Him not full blown, but I think a version of it.
- 41:46Speaker 4: I think he just said a rate yeah verse, it
- 41:50Speaker 4: won't be a full blowing let's go eighty percent air
- 41:53Speaker 4: raid like you'll be throwing.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I hope it's not eighty like I I just I
- 41:59Speaker 1: just I get what you're saying that because that's what
- 42:01Speaker 1: Dana's kind of done. I I just think that it's
- 42:04Speaker 1: got to be very and they've said it complimentary football.
- 42:07Speaker 1: You know, I think Dana is smarten to figure out.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a different playbook though
- 42:13Speaker 1: than what we've seen from Dana Holgerson because of the
- 42:17Speaker 1: conference you're playing in and the different pieces that you have. Now.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I agree with Austin. We brought in like Dame Key
- 42:25Speaker 1: and Isaiah Hunter. I think I shouldn't say this, but
- 42:29Speaker 1: I think are the best transfer wide receivers we brought
- 42:32Speaker 1: in in recent years. That's what we've been hearing anyways,
- 42:36Speaker 1: So I hope that they are and that will help
- 42:39Speaker 1: our passing game. That way, we can help our running
- 42:41Speaker 1: game as well, because I you know what comes first,
- 42:46Speaker 1: passing set to run or running except the pass. You
- 42:48Speaker 1: could argue that both ways. But I think the pieces
- 42:54Speaker 1: seem to be better than what we've had, and that
- 42:58Speaker 1: that is is Ryola. It's it's Holderson rule. It's all
- 43:00Speaker 1: the recruiting stuff that you just hope again that it
- 43:03Speaker 1: pays out in year threes so we can see some wins.
- 43:06Speaker 2: I will say so. Holger Holgerson took over the last
- 43:10Speaker 2: three games right last year, three or four ish in there.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Yep.
- 43:15Speaker 3: So last year we Nebraska had the sixth longest the
- 43:19Speaker 3: game game of possession in the nation, and then the
- 43:23Speaker 3: last three it only dropped to tenth. It dropped about
- 43:28Speaker 3: like it dropped about forty seconds. So I mean it's
- 43:31Speaker 3: he played a little bit quicker, maybe a fewer less runs,
- 43:35Speaker 3: but we were still in the top ten for the
- 43:40Speaker 3: last three games.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Here's here's the thing I was gonna bring up. And
- 43:47Speaker 4: I don't think it's been it's been a long time
- 43:49Speaker 4: since the brassman says. I think it's flipping this year.
- 43:52Speaker 4: The Nebraska men offensive football team still have a defense
- 43:55Speaker 4: football team. WHOA, Probably it's been a long time we
- 44:00Speaker 4: said that. And I I mean, which which group are
- 44:03Speaker 4: you more confident going the season? Your offense your defense?
- 44:05Speaker 4: I would say offense.
- 44:06Speaker 2: By probably very very confidence wise.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think there's a lot more unknowns, even though
- 44:13Speaker 1: we got new coordinators both. Then I think there's a
- 44:15Speaker 1: lot more unknowns on on.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Defense player of just personnel player personnel.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean going to the season on the braston
- 44:23Speaker 4: is an offensive team, I would say, I would agree.
- 44:26Speaker 2: We have seven long times on staff. There's no way
- 44:29Speaker 2: we aren't an offensive tea.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's been a long time since you've been
- 44:35Speaker 4: able to say that. I mean, I can't think last
- 44:37Speaker 4: time we.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Had seven offensive coordinators on stuff.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Well, yeah, that's I get a good quarterback.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I actually hope that we can. I hope we can
- 44:47Speaker 1: be arguing this midway through the year because both units
- 44:50Speaker 1: are good, solid, like I really, I mean, if one's
- 44:55Speaker 1: like exceptionally while and the other one's good, then that
- 44:57Speaker 1: means we're probably sitting seven or eight no midway through
- 45:00Speaker 1: the year. But yeah, I hope our offense can at
- 45:04Speaker 1: least catch our defense to where they were last year slash.
- 45:10Speaker 1: I hope our defense doesn't decline below our offense because
- 45:14Speaker 1: if our offense gets that much better and our defense declines,
- 45:16Speaker 1: and I still don't think that's a good recipe to
- 45:19Speaker 1: compete in the Big Ten. I think you have to
- 45:22Speaker 1: build foundation on defense to be in games, which we
- 45:25Speaker 1: have been. We just haven't won them because we're two
- 45:28Speaker 1: and nine since RL's been here, and however much before
- 45:31Speaker 1: that with Frost. So I think you have to have
- 45:34Speaker 1: a strong defense in the Big Ten. Doesn't mean our
- 45:36Speaker 1: offense can't get better. But I think that's that's the
- 45:39Speaker 1: word complimentary that everybody throws around now when talking about
- 45:42Speaker 1: complimentary football, So I do. I think that's a good point.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I just that could for the sake of the team.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I hope it's not a little bit because I want
- 45:51Speaker 1: our defense still that I want to still hang our
- 45:53Speaker 1: hat on our defense and our offense just to catch
- 45:55Speaker 1: where they've been at.
- 45:57Speaker 4: I just put my calendar October fifteenth. We will come
- 45:59Speaker 4: back this talk.
- 46:01Speaker 1: There you go, last bit of conversation that I want
- 46:07Speaker 1: to get to that for the big thing. Right three
- 46:10Speaker 1: four weeks ago, maybe three weeks ago, it was way
- 46:15Speaker 1: overblown because there's nothing else going on, not distant in
- 46:17Speaker 1: college football, but distance sports in general. But with Scott
- 46:21Speaker 1: Frosts comments about basically, don't take the wrong job is
- 46:25Speaker 1: what he said.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Quotes, Yeah, the statement he's not wrong.
- 46:33Speaker 1: So that was the quote. That's what got talked about.
- 46:37Speaker 1: To put the follow up on ruled in a big
- 46:39Speaker 1: ten media's days kind of it didn't necessarily straight up
- 46:43Speaker 1: back for us, but kind of explained how he.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Defended Frost.
- 46:50Speaker 1: So he said that you know, you know, it wasn't
- 46:51Speaker 1: a good job either when I took over. So I
- 46:53Speaker 1: think the the the the message here in the conversation
- 46:58Speaker 1: is one for both people. And I'll start with Frost,
- 47:02Speaker 1: Like why even say it? Even why some people might
- 47:08Speaker 1: think it's true? Like can you not just go out
- 47:10Speaker 1: there and give the generic Like you know someone's gonna
- 47:12Speaker 1: ask about it, right, it's your first head of coaching Johnsons.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Someone's gonna say something. Do you not just have a
- 47:17Speaker 1: canned answer of yep?
- 47:20Speaker 2: I tried it.
- 47:21Speaker 1: It didn't work out. I learned from it, and now
- 47:24Speaker 1: I'm here like can you not just have that answer?
- 47:26Speaker 1: But instead you got to say something? So he said something,
- 47:29Speaker 1: and that's Frost.
- 47:31Speaker 4: I mean, keep playing that.
- 47:34Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying, Like that's
- 47:37Speaker 1: still his ego inside of him. He had the answer ready.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I'm not yea, I think he had the answer planned,
- 47:43Speaker 1: like it's just how it like his ego still had
- 47:46Speaker 1: to say it and then rule then following up, did
- 47:50Speaker 1: he have to really address it? No, but you also
- 47:54Speaker 1: knew that you were gonna get asked about it. He
- 47:57Speaker 1: actually talked about how they had a something in the
- 48:00Speaker 1: locker room, a poster or something of Frost on some
- 48:04Speaker 1: of the side conversations, like basically saying that he's not
- 48:06Speaker 1: an enemy, like so anyways, a lot of drama around
- 48:11Speaker 1: these comments and that's what you do an off season.
- 48:14Speaker 1: But I do think Austin, I will let you go.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I guess you said there's some truth with that. That's
- 48:19Speaker 1: not what you know. A lot of common Husker kool
- 48:22Speaker 1: aid fan, drinker type of people will say, dude, what
- 48:26Speaker 1: the hell.
- 48:26Speaker 2: But I'm gonna I will say my like.
- 48:30Speaker 3: My initial reaction was like, dude, like, he's not wrong.
- 48:34Speaker 3: You don't want to take their like having the right
- 48:36Speaker 3: being in the right place for you is super important
- 48:39Speaker 3: to how well you succeed. But he basically it did
- 48:41Speaker 3: feel like he was like, it's not my fault.
- 48:44Speaker 2: It went bad.
- 48:45Speaker 3: It was a it was a bad job from the
- 48:46Speaker 3: get go. There's nothing I could do. Don't take the
- 48:48Speaker 3: wrong job.
- 48:49Speaker 2: It was. That's what it felt like.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Do I think before he said this, if he had
- 48:53Speaker 3: came back, I think with more estate, somebody give him
- 48:56Speaker 3: a standing ovation, even though he had a terrible ten
- 48:58Speaker 3: year as head coach. I think for the most part,
- 49:00Speaker 3: Nebraska fans recognized it didn't.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Work out legend, but now not anymore. He's not I
- 49:07Speaker 2: don't think so.
- 49:10Speaker 1: You put you put a little dagger in there and
- 49:12Speaker 1: twisted it.
- 49:12Speaker 3: It's just one of those things where it's like, yes,
- 49:15Speaker 3: was it probably not the right job for you? Was
- 49:17Speaker 3: it a little bit too close to home a little
- 49:19Speaker 3: maybe a little too big for what you were?
- 49:22Speaker 2: What you not too big for him?
- 49:24Speaker 1: But spotlight was constantly honest.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Yes, it was the spotlight too big, not the role,
- 49:30Speaker 2: but the spotlight. Probably.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Would you have been fine staying at UCF Yes, would
- 49:37Speaker 3: you be undefeated ever you were there?
- 49:38Speaker 2: Probably not. Is having the right job important?
- 49:42Speaker 1: Yes?
- 49:44Speaker 3: But do you say that about an all monorn who
- 49:45Speaker 3: paid you a ton of money and you went and
- 49:47Speaker 3: did just absolutely horrible as a head coach?
- 49:52Speaker 2: No, that was the right it was the right job.
- 49:55Speaker 3: It's like, you can come home and save Nebraska fotball
- 49:58Speaker 3: and he does that, he becomes a freaking legend.
- 50:01Speaker 2: But he didn't.
- 50:03Speaker 3: And him saying it felt a little bit like it's
- 50:05Speaker 3: not my fault. There's no way I could have fixed it.
- 50:07Speaker 3: It was the wrong job.
- 50:10Speaker 1: It was his fault though, like thank you, thank you for.
- 50:16Speaker 4: We we we've all heard the rumors about what he
- 50:18Speaker 4: was doing. Yes, like he didn't give he didn't give
- 50:24Speaker 4: it as all coaching here at all. I don't know
- 50:31Speaker 4: I why even say that, that's that's why.
- 50:34Speaker 3: I said, that's that's the exactly right you keep There's
- 50:38Speaker 3: just so many ways you could have avoided the question.
- 50:40Speaker 2: You know, grass isn't always greener.
- 50:43Speaker 1: It's like, as has he learned anything, just become any
- 50:49Speaker 1: humility at all from the job in Nebraska, went to
- 50:53Speaker 1: the rams, or went to maybe his Arizona state. The
- 50:55Speaker 1: RAM had a couple of things like they're like did
- 50:58Speaker 1: he learn anything from that? And people, you know, maybe
- 51:01Speaker 1: wanted to like have a little bit of okay, like
- 51:05Speaker 1: feel bad for the guy, like okay, glad he got
- 51:07Speaker 1: a coaching job.
- 51:08Speaker 2: And then bam, I'll be honest, I wanted you have
- 51:12Speaker 2: to do well. I want them to do horrible.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Now I was, I was kind of the same ball.
- 51:18Speaker 1: I I don't necessarily like want to fail, but I kind.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Of do like I do now I didn't before. That's
- 51:24Speaker 2: the thing. He could have come home. He's still have
- 51:26Speaker 2: been welcomed as like you're still Scott Frost, like you
- 51:30Speaker 2: tried it, we appreciate it. It didn't work out, but
- 51:33Speaker 2: welcome home. And now it's like if I don't know,
- 51:38Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 51:39Speaker 4: If he would have had just a generic answer, no
- 51:41Speaker 4: one had even known that Scott Frost had.
- 51:44Speaker 2: No no one would have cared.
- 51:47Speaker 4: He he wanted to make news with what he said.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Gosh, I hope they just get freaking obliterated. Put them
- 51:55Speaker 2: on the schedule. Put him on the schedule.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I don't know if we want to do he yes,
- 52:01Speaker 1: this is the year.
- 52:02Speaker 2: I want to know. This year is my last.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Like conspiracy theory, or it's not really conspiracy theory, but
- 52:08Speaker 1: thoughts around long term or not the next couple of
- 52:13Speaker 1: years where things could go. So to your point, Austin
- 52:16Speaker 1: about maybe he was can be a little bit right
- 52:18Speaker 1: and how you kind of phrased it. So here's the
- 52:21Speaker 1: world that I see where he's right. And this goes
- 52:25Speaker 1: back to why I think, and I know we've had
- 52:28Speaker 1: some discussion around this of why I think A big
- 52:34Speaker 1: reason why Nebraska football has struggled, Nebraska sports in general,
- 52:37Speaker 1: but football has struggled is the hype and the fans
- 52:43Speaker 1: and the spotlight that you put on the players, the coaches,
- 52:48Speaker 1: which comes with sports. But we're in Nebraska. There's nothing else,
- 52:51Speaker 1: and so what do we do? We literally blow everything
- 52:54Speaker 1: up out of proportion. We analyze everything like we're doing now.
- 52:58Speaker 1: How we were part of the problem. I'm not. We're
- 53:01Speaker 1: here doing the same thing. But the big picture of
- 53:06Speaker 1: Nebraska football as a as an entity is why it's
- 53:13Speaker 1: not a good job because you can't get away your celebrity,
- 53:17Speaker 1: and Scott Frost was a celebrity in his own reason, Like,
- 53:20Speaker 1: you cannot just do your work. You're constantly being pulled
- 53:24Speaker 1: in a billion directions and having to deal with stuff
- 53:28Speaker 1: that at UCF you don't have to deal with. And
- 53:31Speaker 1: that was part of what Scott Frost said was he
- 53:33Speaker 1: can just go and do his own thing.
- 53:37Speaker 2: That I think, it's just why I think is better
- 53:39Speaker 2: for Nebraska. Correct.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Now here's my that's here's my conspiracy with that. I
- 53:46Speaker 1: think if things go south, rule is already starting to
- 53:48Speaker 1: set the stage for a very similar angle. Number one
- 53:55Speaker 1: and this, this is my theory. Nobody knows his tweet
- 53:57Speaker 1: that's probably a month ago ish month and a half
- 54:00Speaker 1: ago that said something about I can't remember exactly how
- 54:03Speaker 1: it was dated, but negativity. People profit off of negativity,
- 54:07Speaker 1: Your time is over, or something to that effect. Nobody
- 54:12Speaker 1: knows really what that was about. My theory is what
- 54:16Speaker 1: it was about was hinted at three Nebraska sports riders
- 54:19Speaker 1: or two guys that put together the Groin Kit Chronicles,
- 54:24Speaker 1: which if you haven't listened to it, it is kind
- 54:26Speaker 1: of decent. It's on the ID Club podcast. They rank
- 54:29Speaker 1: all of our losses since Bopolini got fired, So every
- 54:34Speaker 1: loss is ranked on a scale of one to seventy
- 54:37Speaker 1: because there's been seventy of them on a numerical stat
- 54:41Speaker 1: They gave it of how hard or how much it
- 54:45Speaker 1: hurt by getting kicked in the groin. That's what the
- 54:47Speaker 1: Groin Kit chronicles, and I think that's what that comment
- 54:50Speaker 1: was based off of. At the media, at people now,
- 54:53Speaker 1: people had other thoughts set from national stuff to whatever
- 54:56Speaker 1: they thought it was about, but nobody's ever going to
- 54:58Speaker 1: know what it was. I think that was his first frustration.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Second thing he made a comment on in I think
- 55:05Speaker 1: it was big ten media days. Maybe it was something
- 55:08Speaker 1: else on positivity in Nebraska, like he said something about
- 55:12Speaker 1: it takes everybody to do this thing, to do it
- 55:15Speaker 1: the right way, we have to stop thinking so negatively
- 55:19Speaker 1: and blah blah blah. He made some com up positivity.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Then Third, I think now by taking Frost's side a
- 55:27Speaker 1: little bit here without directly saying I completely agree with
- 55:30Speaker 1: coach frost basically roundabout like we said, sided with him,
- 55:34Speaker 1: supported him. I'm I not that he's doing it on purpose,
- 55:37Speaker 1: but I think a little bit. If things do go south,
- 55:40Speaker 1: you're gonna start seeing those frustrations come out because Rule's
- 55:45Speaker 1: gonna talk. We know he's gonna talk. He's gonna speak out,
- 55:48Speaker 1: now does I do. I think he's a little more
- 55:50Speaker 1: mature and grown up and take responsibility for his actions
- 55:53Speaker 1: absolutely than Scott Frosted. But I don't think he's going
- 55:59Speaker 1: to go out and at his next job if if
- 56:02Speaker 1: he were to get let go in a couple of
- 56:03Speaker 1: years and say Nebraska football was the best university and
- 56:07Speaker 1: I just messed up. I think he's going to have
- 56:10Speaker 1: some similar opinions about which awet fair critiques, but stuff
- 56:17Speaker 1: that we've talked about that.
- 56:18Speaker 3: That's why see, I don't I'm not gonna go conspiracy
- 56:21Speaker 3: theories laying the groundwork. I think he's just being straight
- 56:22Speaker 3: upon it and being like, there are some critiques about,
- 56:27Speaker 3: you know, the Nebraska fandom, but yeah, he goes abound
- 56:30Speaker 3: it very I mean he massages it and he's sugarcoats
- 56:33Speaker 3: it like people are drinking it and they're like, man,
- 56:37Speaker 3: he freaking loves this place. He's like, yeah, you're right,
- 56:39Speaker 3: it does require a fun He's like no, he's basically saying, like,
- 56:42Speaker 3: you guys need to chill the fuck out, like.
- 56:45Speaker 1: And and and as we're going, as we're going up
- 56:47Speaker 1: up up, up up, and things start going down down down,
- 56:50Speaker 1: down down. With any coach, I'm not just saying it's here,
- 56:53Speaker 1: but here, especially because that's all we talk about. Then
- 56:56Speaker 1: that's when it goes a big explosion.
- 57:00Speaker 3: And I think he's also recognizing that there isn't like
- 57:04Speaker 3: a you don't sky like, you just don't when you're
- 57:06Speaker 3: building a program. It's not just a straight to the
- 57:09Speaker 3: top Indiana. Well, we'll see how it goes this year.
- 57:14Speaker 3: We'll see was that lightning in a bottle or is
- 57:17Speaker 3: that a product of schedule and luck?
- 57:22Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 57:24Speaker 4: I can really complain about the positivity of nebraskiv or
- 57:28Speaker 4: media and Nebraska fans whatever, when every off season it's
- 57:35Speaker 4: it's we're gonna win it all, basically, I every every
- 57:40Speaker 4: other things.
- 57:42Speaker 2: It's not positivity that's delirious, delirious.
- 57:45Speaker 1: It's a lot of it, a little bit of sarcasm
- 57:48Speaker 1: that I think to that point, I think that's fading.
- 57:51Speaker 4: A lot more it is. Yeah, I think people as
- 57:56Speaker 4: much people.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Are in an improve it mode now, which I think
- 57:59Speaker 1: is is still it's still good. So for a different reason. Yeah,
- 58:03Speaker 1: you're talking about but I think this is where we're at.
- 58:06Speaker 1: That's just reality of what things are happening, and we're
- 58:08Speaker 1: just impatient for things to happen now, Like instead of
- 58:13Speaker 1: us looking at Indiana and going hat that was a flute,
- 58:15Speaker 1: one off thing good for Indiana, Like there's inside everybody goes, God, damn,
- 58:22Speaker 1: why can't we do that for one year? Like what
- 58:24Speaker 1: what are we doing wrong that we Indiana's got no
- 58:27Speaker 1: resources compared to us.
- 58:29Speaker 3: Why that there's probably some frustration within the rule of
- 58:32Speaker 3: like he's not getting the patients because Frost burned like
- 58:37Speaker 3: Nebraska fans patients like Nebraska fans used all their patients
- 58:41Speaker 3: for the last two years of Scott Frost.
- 58:43Speaker 2: Now he's coming in and it's like so they came
- 58:45Speaker 2: in and takes time as the program.
- 58:46Speaker 3: They're like, no, we gave you times like Scott Frost time,
- 58:50Speaker 3: I'm not getting any time to build this.
- 58:51Speaker 2: And so I'm sure there's some internal frustration.
- 58:53Speaker 1: With that of just address that's gonna come out too.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I agree, and I don't. I think that's right for
- 59:00Speaker 1: both sides. Like I think fans that we have a
- 59:02Speaker 1: right to want it, to haveations, we have a right
- 59:05Speaker 1: to want it now, and and I think the college
- 59:07Speaker 1: football world even gives it fans more right, but rules
- 59:10Speaker 1: also right, and that any coaches that you want time
- 59:13Speaker 1: to prove yourself, no matter what job you're doing. And yes,
- 59:17Speaker 1: did we see progress in your two?
- 59:20Speaker 2: Yes?
- 59:20Speaker 1: What does progress look like in your three? We'll talk
- 59:23Speaker 1: about that on some other episode. But I think we
- 59:26Speaker 1: got it. We're all going to define that very differently.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Rule's going to find it differently than probably we do
- 59:31Speaker 1: than the next person does. So that's the measuring stick
- 59:35Speaker 1: in a program in year three or four.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Yep, I agree.
- 59:44Speaker 3: All right, So Scott Frost, let's not I mean, you
- 59:47Speaker 3: got you Gottafer, you thirty five million dollar contract for
- 59:50Speaker 3: seven years.
- 59:50Speaker 1: Let's not be like, yes, thank you, we're paying you
- 59:54Speaker 1: that much money too, And then you still got to
- 59:56Speaker 1: say that, Yeah, that's the other part. Yeah, thanks for
- 59:58Speaker 1: mentioning that.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Sorry, Scott, I hope you do.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Yeah, every everybody feels bad for you.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I'm going to the UCF at case State game. I
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: think it's September twenty seventh. Buskers are on a buy that.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Week, and.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I think I might wear my Frost warning red shirt,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: so we.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: Know when we look in the stands, we'll be cheering
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: up stand standing up cheering.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: You're gonna be the only Husker fan worring.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: People will be confused, what is this guy doing?
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Boo.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I don't know what I'll do. I haven't decided. I
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: have a UCF shirt from when we hired Frost, I
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: have a obviously Frost Nebraska stuff, and I have k
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: State stuff. I don't know what I'm gonna do. Maybe
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I'll somehow find a way to do all three.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: All right, go on, Well, yeah, this.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Is obviously episode one of five season, but we'll be
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: diving into more player position talk our schedule. We've had
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: some fun predictions get sent in on percentage chances of
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: winning every game, so we'll do some analysis on our
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: schedule here in the upcoming weeks. We'll be going two
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: times a week here, so episodes will come out on
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Monday morning and Thursday morning every week. We'll do a
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: postgame recap on Sundays, and then Wednesday we'll do the
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: mid week preview and headlines, so kind of similar schedule there.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: We're going to try to have some more guests on
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: this year too, so if you're interested, want to come
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: on and talk and it'll be a little more organized,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I think this year than what we've done in the
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: past with our guests, but we will have more of
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: those as well. So citing things. Oh, also social media.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Dax's run on our Twitter page. We're gonna get them
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: on some Instagram. Maybe we're on YouTube as well. Our
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: videos are on YouTube if you want to watch watch
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: not live, but h see dak War's husker had every
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: every week. We are there as well, so get out
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: on there.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: We have some.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Giveaway shirts, hats, we'll give a tailgate location if you
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: want to stop by our tailgate all that fun stuff.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: All right, Well for the first time
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: God gvr, oh go be red oh Psychedlish English
