- 0:31and we're live Welcome to the all balls no filler podcast live
- 0:35Music from the cabin kitchen. I'm Zach, he's Brad.
- 0:41Hey guys, I'm behind the scenes. We don't have anybody today
- 0:46actually, because due to the recent controversy with Carl's
- 0:49conundrums, he's been loaned out to Tenerife for a few days.
- 0:52Carl's not here research Carl is sending it up somewhere in
- 0:57Tenerife. So it's just me and you today
- 0:59mate, I mean. It is, it is.
- 1:02I mean, rumour has it with the way that Cal's conundrums have
- 1:05gone is probably Niner Reef, you know, getting those fucking
- 1:08names wrong and stuff. But Jesus.
- 1:12Yeah, yeah, don't worry guys. We've had a word with him.
- 1:15He, he's, he's going to be researching researcher Carl's
- 1:20job title a little bit more I think going forward, Eh, but.
- 1:24If he's not, I think we might be.
- 1:26But you know. Yeah, exactly that.
- 1:29How you been mate? Anyway, you all right?
- 1:31Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm all right. I'm grand, but I know you're
- 1:36not. It's been a rough one for you.
- 1:38Yeah, I am. I am not in a not in a great
- 1:41place. So if I don't sound energies
- 1:43because normal guys have just not been very well, I'm not
- 1:46going to lie. I've lived under a rock for the
- 1:47past like four or five days, just been poorly.
- 1:51The whole house has got it. It's it's not been great.
- 1:54So I apologise if if today I'm just going to wing you.
- 1:58I'm not going to lie mate. I mean we're for those that sort
- 2:03of are religious with the day release and things.
- 2:05Obviously you'll know we're normally released on a
- 2:07Wednesday. We're actually recording and
- 2:10filming this on a Wednesday. We're a day behind because Zach
- 2:14Adiz knickers in A twist and was too poorly to record.
- 2:17So we we've delayed by 24 hours. But it's probably done as a
- 2:21favour really, hasn't it? Because actually, last 24 hours
- 2:24has been pretty interesting in the world of the NFL.
- 2:27Yeah, I did it on purpose, purely, purely did it on purpose
- 2:31because I knew that there was going to be more and more star
- 2:32lines coming out, not because I had the worst case of man flu
- 2:35known to man. But hey, look, you're going to
- 2:37feel sorry for me. I had man flu, right?
- 2:39But that being said, mate, absolutely.
- 2:43That being said mate, what we're going to start for today's
- 2:45episode. Yeah, so it's it's obviously
- 2:48been a busy old start to the week for trades and free agency.
- 2:52So we'll hit on the biggest stories of them all and we'll
- 2:55try and get you up to speed with what this means for the teams
- 2:58obviously around the league with the signings they're making or
- 3:00the players they're losing. We'll have our new weekly rugby
- 3:04league focus segment. I can't speak.
- 3:07And we will visit 11 Arif and all of the balls and of course
- 3:13check in on Cal's conundrum all the way from his jolly little
- 3:20holidays. And so hopefully he's got it
- 3:23right this week because you know, he's he's dropped the ball
- 3:26a couple of times. Just just a little bit, Yeah,
- 3:29just a little bit. He, you know, a lot of sees he's
- 3:33on. He's on a fine line for get his
- 3:35P-45 through the post. I think you know and must admit.
- 3:39I mean, we can see how today goes without him, can't we?
- 3:41We'll see it. We'll see how it goes without
- 3:43him and then just decide whether you know whether he's earning
- 3:46his keep or not. A little tester, a little
- 3:49tester, right? Let's get into some of the big
- 3:51news from this week, mate, because there's been quite a
- 3:54quite a fair bit of it as well, right?
- 3:56So we're talking trades, we're talking free agency and we're
- 3:58talking the cuts and signings around the league.
- 4:01Now there's a little small player called a Mr Max Crosby.
- 4:07You might have heard of him. He's a defensive end who plays
- 4:10for the Las Vegas Raiders. He's been in the news a little
- 4:13bit for just being an absolute beast.
- 4:16Well, he actually signed. Oh well, what we thought it's
- 4:20signed and got traded to the Ravens for like 2 first round
- 4:24picks. You know, big blockbuster deal,
- 4:27but then big rewind U-turn on that on that trade never went
- 4:33through. Now I want to touch up on this a
- 4:35little bit because I think there's some funky business
- 4:39going on in the background. It's a weird 1, isn't it?
- 4:42Like, I mean, excuse me, I mean, let's just think about
- 4:48yesterday. So no, not not yesterday.
- 4:50Was it yesterday, Monday, Tuesday, whenever Thursday was
- 4:54I've lost my bearings myself. I'm not even I'll.
- 4:56And you know, the announcement came doing it that Crosby had
- 4:59signed with the Ravens and it was for two first rounders.
- 5:03So like, not only is that a humongous, humongous trade, it's
- 5:10actually what what's really interesting is, I mean, how long
- 5:14the Ravens been around now is like 30 something years, isn't
- 5:18it? So by all accounts, this is the
- 5:22first time, and this is just what I've heard.
- 5:24I'll be honest, I haven't done more research, research Carl's
- 5:28not here. But by all accounts, it's the
- 5:30first time that the Ravens have traded away their first round
- 5:34pick or a player. So not only that, but they've
- 5:39traded 2. So you got the Ravens who
- 5:44essentially need to resign Lamar, which seems bizarre
- 5:48because I'm sure it was only a couple of years ago that was all
- 5:50that drama. But they've got Lamar to lock
- 5:56up. They've got probably a couple of
- 5:58holes. You know, we'll get to other
- 6:00positions from their roster that have moved on a little bit
- 6:04later. But they've then given up this
- 6:07year's first and next year's first, where actually Ravens
- 6:10typically respect drafting really well.
- 6:13So they've given up potentially two players who could be really,
- 6:16really good. Crosby.
- 6:19But then they haven't. Yeah, it's, yeah, it's bombing.
- 6:23Yeah, he's one of them. And when he first, when he first
- 6:26kind of came out, like it was in the news of how big the trade
- 6:30was. And like you say, the the the
- 6:33magnitude of it kind of set waves.
- 6:35The Ravens mean business. They're signing that the they're
- 6:38the big defensive players. They're going to be the star
- 6:40maker of that defence and will you say like the Miles
- 6:43contractor rumours that you're going to re reconstruct his
- 6:46contract to make it a bit easier for him to sign up the players
- 6:48as such, which a lot of QBs do? I think a few QBs this year have
- 6:52done it as well. But then another defensive
- 6:56player comes in and throws a bit of a spanner into the works here
- 7:00and have the Ravens not a bit off more looking true, But did
- 7:04they see like, you know, you see the pot at the end, like you see
- 7:08the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow type thing?
- 7:09Went straight for it and didn't look around.
- 7:11And all of a sudden you've got Hendrickson who doesn't re sign
- 7:17for the Bengals and becomes a free agent and now as an
- 7:20organisation who then openly as well to his agent, said won't
- 7:23mind going into Ravens and then the Ravens here.
- 7:26Now I start thinking, well, shit, I've just I've just spent
- 7:29two first round picks and a guy, but I can get a guy here for a
- 7:34contract, just a contract. Now.
- 7:39I don't see how Max Crosby can fail.
- 7:41I mean, obviously I know he's he's he's still totally injured,
- 7:43but like I don't see how this guy is failing his physical like
- 7:52workout prior and not getting his contract through.
- 7:55Do you know what I mean? I just something a bit bit fishy
- 7:59for me there. Yeah, I mean, like if he's, if
- 8:02he's still injured and he's still got that, that niggle
- 8:06there, I think ultimately could fail them.
- 8:08But what's probably what probably happens day-to-day is
- 8:11actually they'll assess where he is at the minute and they'll
- 8:14assess where he could be. And it just won't, they won't
- 8:20really consider it. And they'll be like, yeah, yeah,
- 8:21we'll, we'll look after Emil, heal.
- 8:23It's fine. And then Hendrickson's in the
- 8:25mix. It's like, hang on, hang on.
- 8:28We could have got this guy who's not Max Crosby.
- 8:32Let's be real. I don't think I think I think
- 8:36he's a very, very good player, but I don't think he's Crosby
- 8:41who or Crosby when he's playing at his peak.
- 8:43I don't I don't think he's quite there.
- 8:46But you can get him and then retain your two first round
- 8:49picks. And as I've just mentioned, the
- 8:51Ravens typically draft well. Their usual process is best
- 8:56player available that you know, they don't normally draft or
- 9:00need, which I think is quite, quite sensible because you're
- 9:04then avoiding the whole reaching for somebody that you know, you
- 9:08probably don't actually want to draft where you're drafting.
- 9:10And for a team like Ravens that's always in the mix of
- 9:13playoffs, that makes sense. That makes sense.
- 9:15You don't want to draft a second round player with your first
- 9:18round, 20th early 20th pick, you know, so it's it's a bit
- 9:25suspicious, isn't it? It's a bit weird, but there's so
- 9:29many implications with it. There's so many like things that
- 9:33come back from it, like who the raid, the Raiders have actually
- 9:38today. I think if I'm right, I think
- 9:42just outside of the Titans, I think the Titans had the biggest
- 9:47cap space in the NFL. Forgive me if I'm getting this
- 9:50wrong and it's just from recollections, no notes on this.
- 9:54I'm sure the Titans had the biggest amount of cap space or
- 9:58cap spend available to them. What however you want to phrase
- 10:01that? And I think the Ravens have been
- 10:03the number one in terms of total contracts offered.
- 10:08So we're not talking about cap for this year, talking about
- 10:10like general overall contracts offered out.
- 10:16And then the Titans have been second.
- 10:18So the Raiders have been obviously signing people on the
- 10:21right. We've just got rid of this
- 10:23thirty, $40 million that we had and oh wait, no, we haven't.
- 10:29It's come back. Yeah, it's it's it's one of them
- 10:36Like, so it puts Raiders in a really sticky situation as to
- 10:40what they're going to do in terms of the Crosby situation or
- 10:42they're going to try and reconstruct some of the
- 10:44contracts to free some more money up because he's, you know,
- 10:46he's going to be there. If not or have has Crosby pulled
- 10:51an absolute blinder here and he becomes a free agent, which I
- 10:54don't see that happening in any way shape our thoughts about how
- 10:57much he's worth. Now, I agree with you that I
- 10:59think Crosby's the better player out of the two, but I don't
- 11:02think he's two first rounds better than Hendrickson.
- 11:07I believe that what the Ravens have done there is probably the
- 11:11deal of the century. I think it's an absolute
- 11:13blinder. There's not many, not many teams
- 11:16that get given two of the top three top five defensive ends in
- 11:26the in the NFL. And like, you can have either or
- 11:30take your pick, but you can have one for a free agency, not a
- 11:34free agency, just paying him with paying him a chunk, which
- 11:37yes, he's a bit more injury pro and I will, I will admit that.
- 11:39Or you can give us two first round pick for Crosby here.
- 11:44And, and I mean, I bet Crosby's a bit fuming because he they've
- 11:47probably seen potential Super Bowl with the Ravens and and the
- 11:52Mar Jackson everything. And I understand that the
- 11:55Raiders are, you know, signing well and and got the first round
- 11:59pick and everything, But still, for me, it's just a bit, it's
- 12:01just one of them. I think the Ravens have pulled
- 12:03the deal of the century off, though.
- 12:04I think credit where credit's due is absolute business is
- 12:08this. And they're keeping their first,
- 12:10they're getting they're getting their man or their second choice
- 12:14man and keeping their first round picks, but not losing too
- 12:17much talent. I think it's, I think it's an
- 12:19absolute steal is what lies. Yeah, I mean, what's what's
- 12:25interesting to me are the thing that like, I wonder is obviously
- 12:32Tyler Linderbaum, probably one of the better centres in the
- 12:38NFL, obviously of Ravens, he became a free agent.
- 12:44And, and basically the reason he became a free agent is because
- 12:51to to, to franchise tag Linda Baum would have meant that
- 12:57you're paying the average salary of the whole offensive line, not
- 13:02just centres. So that would have put him up
- 13:05there. And I don't have the exact
- 13:08figures in front of it, but it would have put him up there with
- 13:10the top paid lineman in the league.
- 13:14And we spoke about it in previous episodes.
- 13:15I think in previous pods where it's your left tackles, your
- 13:19left tackles are the ones that are paid astronomically because
- 13:22they guard that blind side of the quarterback.
- 13:25So you centres, although they're paid well, they don't get near
- 13:28that sort of money. So to tag Linda Baum, he's got
- 13:33he you'd be paying him sort of left tackle money basically, is
- 13:37what we're saying. But The thing is, is they didn't
- 13:41tag him. So where does this put now the
- 13:44Ravens with losing their starting centre who they could
- 13:48have tagged and got, you know, given starting lineman money,
- 13:52but then gaining one of the best defensive players, defensive
- 13:55lineman. I think it's a win win me for
- 13:58the Ravens in general. I think that what they've done
- 14:00is just just smart business, as I said before, just smart
- 14:03business for me. But.
- 14:07Yeah, I mean, it is, but it's it, you know, it, it makes sense
- 14:11for the Ravens and and they'll play the system how they want to
- 14:13play it. They're they're a good outfit
- 14:17and and EDC knows what he's doing, doesn't it?
- 14:20So it'll be an interesting to see how it pans out.
- 14:23That's it, That's it. Anyway, let's move on to other
- 14:26news and the trades that's happened around the NFLA big
- 14:29one, I said a big one. Gino's back home, the team that
- 14:33drafted him back in 20, 13 I want to say and my notes I don't
- 14:39have them down either way. Gino was drafted by The Jets.
- 14:42He's gone to various places after this.
- 14:44He's now gone back to The Jets for a a QB and a seventh round
- 14:50pick for their 6th. Is that correct?
- 14:51Is that how it works? They've they've traded.
- 14:54I never understand this properly.
- 14:55Why you trade them the round picks and then a player like I
- 14:59just baffles me at times. I almost feel like it's an ego
- 15:03thing just to say like, Oh yeah, we got the better pick out of
- 15:06you. But yeah, it's a late, it's a
- 15:09late round swap, isn't it? And you get Gino Baku, He's had
- 15:13a, he had a rubbish year and or a rubbish couple of years.
- 15:19But before that I had the stormer of a couple like a few
- 15:22years at the Seahawks, didn't he?
- 15:25And he's, he's the, I say the ultimate journey man.
- 15:29I think that's kind of reserved for like Ryan Fitzpatrick or
- 15:32maybe Kirk Cousins at this rate. But like he's obviously started
- 15:37his career at Jets and he's he's back there.
- 15:40And I think, you know what, I think it's a smart move.
- 15:43And they don't often happen at The Jets.
- 15:45I think they've got him for next to nothing.
- 15:48I think the, I think most of the contract he's been upheld, so
- 15:54Jets are going to have very little to pay for Gino as far as
- 15:58I've read, basically like a vet minimum deal if you like and a
- 16:04late round pick swap. So it's cost him next to nothing
- 16:06to get someone in who can hold the four.
- 16:09It can play the sport and he knows what he's doing and he's
- 16:12experienced a number of different defences and offences.
- 16:16I think it's just a smart move really.
- 16:17And Aaron Glenn's probably looking for someone who can
- 16:21potentially help not getting fired after year 2.
- 16:24So that was a bit touch and go after year 1, wasn't it?
- 16:27But. Yeah, it's a big one for him.
- 16:29It's a sensible move. It's it's a big one for him.
- 16:33Also, DJ Moore. Sorry, go on.
- 16:35No. No, no, go on.
- 16:39That was a latency thing. DJ Moore is going to the Bills.
- 16:42The second round in exchange there for DJ Moore.
- 16:46I think it's a good suit. I think it gives it gives Alan
- 16:50more weapons around him. I think it's I think he's I
- 16:54think it's a nice it's a nice addition there to the bills.
- 16:57Nothing more really from my side things to say over there.
- 16:59I just think it's a nice fit really and hopefully I'd say
- 17:02hopefully, I don't hope at all because he's a divisional rival.
- 17:04I hope he does really bad but it could be the the that little key
- 17:08piece of weapon that they need as such.
- 17:12I think DJ has always had that potential there and he's he's
- 17:16always looked like a quality player.
- 17:18He's just never really lit it up as he's never really been in the
- 17:23right system or the right place at the right time.
- 17:26And when he came out of college, he had a lot of positivity
- 17:29around him. And I don't know, I just the
- 17:32worry for me is like the Bills, they've had a good few big
- 17:37names, plain receiver for them, but there's none that have
- 17:39really like lit the house on fire as such.
- 17:43Probably biggest name was Diggs, but even he compared to his
- 17:47years at the Vikings, didn't quite live up to the
- 17:49expectations that that he had there.
- 17:52So it'll be an interesting 1. And I think it's probably, it's
- 17:56a great signing for the Bills, I think, but it'll be interesting
- 17:58to see how it pans out, really. Yeah, for DJ.
- 18:04That's it and there's a few more trades that happened around the
- 18:07NFL over the week and we're not going to touch anymore because
- 18:10we don't have the time to. But what we do have is we have a
- 18:12nice little list on our visuals. So if you are listening on
- 18:15Spotify, you can also watch the video.
- 18:17And if you're not, you would like to see the wonderful
- 18:20visuals that we do for you week in week out.
- 18:22With all the information on there, you can head over over to
- 18:24our YouTube channel, which is all bars no Philtre podcast on
- 18:28YouTube. And if you want to follow any of
- 18:29our social medias where we do post regular content on there at
- 18:33ABNFPOD across all of your socials, please do the favour,
- 18:37go head over there, hit as follow like and all that jazz
- 18:40and just get involved with some of the stuff that we're we're
- 18:42looking at doing now, Brad, we've talked a bit about the
- 18:46trades. We're going to talk about free
- 18:47agency now because free agency has I think taken storm this
- 18:54year. There's a lot of, I know there's
- 18:55obviously a lot of players that could get moved around every
- 18:57year. But this year I just felt for
- 18:58me, there is a lot of big names moving around, a lot of people
- 19:03that we thought would have probably ended their careers at
- 19:06certain clubs moving around. I'm sure throw a few names out
- 19:09there. We'll then go into get to chat
- 19:11about them in particular. But we've spoke about the Ravens
- 19:14signing, Trey Hendrickson, great signing there, but new homes for
- 19:19the likes of tour, Mike Sevens, Malik Willis, Travis Etienne,
- 19:23we've got Alec Pierce, we've got Bradley Chubb, all got new
- 19:27homes. As it stands to you mate, who
- 19:30stands out here within free agency to nice fit their new
- 19:35home and who stands out as a bit of a strange fit to a new home
- 19:39for you. I think the two that are really
- 19:44good signings and they're up there with the top of our list.
- 19:47I think obviously we spoke quite a bit about him last week and
- 19:50the week before. Obviously he was the Super Bowl
- 19:52MVPI. Think Kenneth Walker to the
- 19:54Chiefs is a really, really good signing for both.
- 20:00You know, they had a stinker of a year last year, but the Chiefs
- 20:03and you might put some of that down to the injury of.
- 20:08For Homes, but actually they weren't having that the great
- 20:11year that you'd expect anyway before that.
- 20:13But I think that's a really strong signing for them.
- 20:18You know, coming off of that injury and having a backfield
- 20:21there that can support the homes to not necessarily have to feel
- 20:26like he has to be Superman every play, which puts him in that
- 20:29line of fire, doesn't it? And I think it's a really,
- 20:31really strong signing. I think one of the big ones that
- 20:35took me by surprise was the Mike Evans signing.
- 20:38Yeah, you know, last year was the first year that he'd not had
- 20:421000 yard season. And I think he's still got it.
- 20:46Like, you know, he's not a young pup anymore.
- 20:48I mean, he's younger than me, but he's he's not a young pup
- 20:51anymore from the NFL terms of things and and the wide receiver
- 20:55terms. But he is still got it and he
- 20:59can still get there. He's a big body and you can put
- 21:01him up there, but I actually think it's a really, really good
- 21:06sign for Kyle Shanahan. Kyle Shanahan, sorry, offence.
- 21:11I think the 49ers have got all the potential in the world to
- 21:15use that big body receiver. It's kind of like that Julio
- 21:18Jones sort of position and get him, get him down field, put him
- 21:25one-on-one and you'd trust him to come down with it.
- 21:29And they've not really had that that last this last year or two.
- 21:32Obviously Debo was kind of that weird hybrid sort of player that
- 21:39had those opportunities. And I think it's a really good
- 21:42signing for the 49ers and I think it's a nice fresh start
- 21:45for Evans, who who could have a really good season there, to be
- 21:48fair. You got to think though as well,
- 21:50like he didn't get his 1000 yard season last year because he was
- 21:54injured a lot of this a lot of the year was in and out of
- 21:56injury a lot of the year along with a lot of other players from
- 21:59the NFL and he got said like it was one of the big reasons for
- 22:02it. I personally think that this is
- 22:05probably one of the the free agency signings that will
- 22:09happen, like the one of the best free agency signs that will
- 22:11happen across. I think it's the perfect match
- 22:14for him. As you say, that Kyle Shanahan
- 22:16offence and having someone of the the stature and the size of
- 22:19Mike Evans. I think Mike Evans is a quality
- 22:22receiver and it brings in that experience in there to to coach
- 22:26some younger lads coming through, but at the same time be
- 22:29that safety net of, you know, he's a tall guy.
- 22:32Yeah, I can just talk about anywhere in his area and he's
- 22:34bringing that ball down, you know, and he's going to bring
- 22:36that kind of that veteran and would receive.
- 22:41Watch me come in here and still ball.
- 22:43I'm not coming in here was like, yeah, I'm just going to like
- 22:45like AD Hopkins gun going to the Ravens who went in as a bit of a
- 22:49veteran who played a key part of the offence but more of a key
- 22:54part off the field, if that makes sense.
- 22:56In the locker room and a train and stuff.
- 22:57Still playing a part on on the field, but wasn't as impactful
- 23:00as from a fancy point of view, let's just say as what he was
- 23:03elsewhere. But then I think Mike Evans go
- 23:08walks into this 49ers team and I think he's the same player.
- 23:12I don't, I don't see his receptions dropping.
- 23:15I don't see his his touchdowns dropping.
- 23:18I, I really don't, I think he's going to walk into his offence
- 23:21and just go, I am Mike Evans. I am, we are wide receiver 1 and
- 23:25I'm going to show you why I'm your wide receiver one.
- 23:27But I, I just think, you know, I think he's, he's time to win two
- 23:30bowls now. Yeah, and I fully agree.
- 23:34I fully agree. I mean, the last couple of years
- 23:36really have been Hanford by injuries, aren't they?
- 23:38Like this year was a bad one for him, which I probably agree.
- 23:41It's probably why he didn't get that thousand years yards.
- 23:44Sorry, not years. Jesus, 1000 yards.
- 23:46The season before, though, he had the same thing.
- 23:49He was injured for a while and was only just there.
- 23:51And if you remember, I think they had to force the books, had
- 23:54to force a play to get him it on like the last game of the
- 23:58season, maybe one of the last few plays of the season to
- 24:01actually get him over that 1000 yard line.
- 24:04And that's, you know, you've got to respect that.
- 24:06But this year is just what close was in.
- 24:08And then they can't put him in that position and it's probably
- 24:11time for a fresh start. And but he was he was one of
- 24:14those players where I thought he'd he'd retire a book.
- 24:20But it's business isn't the NFL. And we see it more and more.
- 24:23There's there's very few players who start and finish with the
- 24:27same team. Very, very few players these
- 24:30days and he's just the next one in the in the the line that that
- 24:36doesn't. And he's he's got all the
- 24:38quality in the world still. I think he's still got the
- 24:41opportunity to get another thousand year season out of the
- 24:4349ers, but I think it'll probably depend on more than
- 24:48just him. I think I always feel like it's
- 24:51question marks in the 49ers. I don't I don't believe in Brock
- 24:54Purdy. I think he's a a product of
- 24:58system. I think you could put a lot of
- 25:00other players in that position. I don't credit where credit's
- 25:03due. Is Mr Irrelevant or was Mr
- 25:06Irrelevant and he's had some great success, but I don't think
- 25:10he's that great of a quarterback.
- 25:11I'd say is is bottom half of starting quarterbacks in the
- 25:15league, but I think he's a product of the system.
- 25:19Now, I aren't comparing the two players in terms because there's
- 25:22a massive gap of generally of talent between these.
- 25:25But you could have said the same thing at Brady at the Patriots
- 25:27to begin with. He didn't come out as an All
- 25:29Star QB. He came out and he became the
- 25:31product of the Patriot system. And I, you know, put put Brady
- 25:35in any other system within the NFL what he had done as well
- 25:38rather than being within that system.
- 25:39And look, I are Brock Purdy's biggest fan.
- 25:42I think he's a good QB and I think he's a very underrated QB
- 25:45at times. He started getting a bit cocky
- 25:47recently, which I just don't see him living up to.
- 25:49But at the same time, I see if you are the product of the
- 25:54system and that system's working well, why change it and why, you
- 25:56know, we don't need to move anything around it.
- 25:58And I see this Mike Evans going to the Niners a bit like
- 26:02Gronkowski, when him and Brady moved on and they started their
- 26:09new life and they started their new and back end of their
- 26:12careers. And and like Gronkowski in
- 26:14particular, who still went over and was still playing that
- 26:17number one tight end role, but just having fun because he knew,
- 26:20he knew he could have retired. He knew he can retire now if you
- 26:22want to. He's just playing ball for
- 26:24playing ball sake, having a bit of a laugh and a joke about it.
- 26:26And he's still made a massive impact on that field.
- 26:28And I just see Mike Evans doing that.
- 26:29Really, I think he's I think he's just going to come out and
- 26:32absolutely storm it, to be quite honest with you.
- 26:34But moving on from Mike Evans, there's two quarterback names on
- 26:38this list that are striking out to me and one of them in
- 26:41particular. In fact, they're both have
- 26:43something to do with your beloved Dolphins. 1's your ex QB
- 26:47and one's your new QB. 2 are going to the Falcons and Malik
- 26:50Willis coming to the Dolphins. What's your thoughts on this?
- 26:56I think the writing was on the wall like from day one, like all
- 27:00the strong rumours were that Willis was coming to the
- 27:04Dolphins. And I've you know what, I've got
- 27:07really mixed feelings. I don't I don't have strong
- 27:09feelings. I'll be honest.
- 27:10I just have mixed feelings. You know, like, well, basically
- 27:17the Green Bay golfing at the minute.
- 27:19You've got the GM or not the GM, sorry, our new GM obviously like
- 27:25former basically assistant GM if you like, forget all the titles,
- 27:29assistant GM at the Packers and our new head coach was DC at the
- 27:33Packers. And now basically, well, what is
- 27:37our new starting quarterback was the backup quarterback at the
- 27:41Packers. And I, I don't think it's about
- 27:46signing. I don't like I'm, I'm fine with
- 27:48it. I'm not against it.
- 27:50I'm I'm totally OK with it. My, I guess pros for it are that
- 27:57you've got two guys who have been around Willis for a couple
- 28:04of years or so, kind of seen him training day in, day out.
- 28:09They've seen the way he's in the club in, in the facility.
- 28:12They've seen that. And then obviously they've seen
- 28:16him on the field. Now the big, I guess the big
- 28:19question mark that everyone's had over him is, well, his snaps
- 28:23have been limited. I think, you know, I, I think
- 28:27again, I'm just going from memory, I'm sure it's like 60
- 28:29something snaps or, or whatever it is, probably more than that.
- 28:37I could be getting that completely wrong.
- 28:38But a very limited number of snaps starting in the NFL.
- 28:44But they were really good snaps. So like we've, we've got a few
- 28:49Green Bay Packers fans and who are friends of ours and they
- 28:53speak really highly of Willis. And, and I agree, like from what
- 28:57he's done and what he actually shown in the NFL, he's a really
- 29:00good QB. He's solid.
- 29:01He's he's got the arm strength, he can run.
- 29:04Basically the two things that the big criticisms of Tua, like
- 29:08no one's ever criticised the timing of Tua, the accuracy of
- 29:11Tua because they were almost second to none.
- 29:16But The thing is with those things is if you can knock
- 29:19someone like to offer those time in rhythm plays, He didn't, he
- 29:24definitely wasn't best at making something happen out of nothing.
- 29:29So that's where you finally take the sacks or he'd throw forced
- 29:33balls, which would be picks and things like that.
- 29:36Whereas with Willis, what you've got is the arm strength to fire
- 29:39the ball. And we're not talking about deep
- 29:41shots. And I think that's what the
- 29:42thing that people used to get confused with two, when people
- 29:46are talking about arm strength, two could sling it deep.
- 29:50He could, he could absolutely sling it deep.
- 29:51Like some of his biggest plays were to two are on the deep run,
- 29:55not to two. Sorry, it's Tyreke on the deep,
- 29:57deep shots, but it was those quick out routes or the quick
- 30:04crossing routes where you needed to absolutely fire that ball in
- 30:08and not float the ball in. And that's where arm strength
- 30:12really comes into it. I think any NFL starting
- 30:14quarterback can throw it deep. It's just how they throw it deep
- 30:19and it or on those quick out routes, like can you fire that
- 30:23ball in low and fast? And that's where he maybe lacked
- 30:27a little bit, but I think, I think Tua can, sorry, not 2.
- 30:35I think Malik can buy the ball in.
- 30:39He can get those quick passes, those those quick sort of sharp
- 30:44passes off. He can hit the deep ball.
- 30:46We've seen that. But he can run as well and he
- 30:48can make something happen. Do I think he's a quarterback of
- 30:53the future? I don't know.
- 30:56I'm not saying yes or no. Like he could be, he couldn't
- 30:59be. There's a very, very limited,
- 31:04there's very limited tape. There's very limited knowledge
- 31:07on that. The contract, it's three years,
- 31:09it's 60, basically 68 mil. I think about 2/3 of that is
- 31:14guaranteed. So it's basically a two year
- 31:16contract. So I'm going to say I've got I
- 31:19don't see him. I don't see him there in after
- 31:21two years. I think he's, I think he's, I
- 31:24think he's a stopgap for a good draft, a good pool of QBs in a
- 31:29draft, rather than just having one or two QBs in a draft.
- 31:33I think he's a stopgap personally.
- 31:35Yeah, I think he's a potential high ceiling stopgap.
- 31:38That's the thing. I think, you know, take away the
- 31:42odd player, take away Kyla, take away Aaron Rodgers.
- 31:50If that's no keep Aaron Rodgers in there.
- 31:52Malik Willis, wherever he went was probably going to get the
- 31:57the highest contract of any free agent quarterback on the market.
- 32:02He was probably right there. He was.
- 32:05He was seen as that guy, wasn't he?
- 32:07That's not necessarily tied to another team.
- 32:11So actually I think the bit of business with the Dolphins and
- 32:15Malik there is actually good business to get the 2 of
- 32:18contracts, to get the cap, all that sort of stuff.
- 32:20Malik Willis, three years, 68 mil, basically a two year
- 32:24contract, guaranteed 45 mil. I think that's a really good
- 32:30contract. That's a low end starter,
- 32:33really, really high end backup quarterback contract.
- 32:37Whereas actually you're getting a starter quarterback this year
- 32:40and then you've got next year the choice to make.
- 32:43You might draft someone, you might sit them for a while or
- 32:45you might start them, but you've still got Malik there was solid.
- 32:48And then year three you've got options.
- 32:51Malik Willis might have an absolute rack in two years and
- 32:54actually you've got a really good quarterback there.
- 32:57You've been able to give a couple of years on a good
- 33:00contract while you're shedding off 2 his contract.
- 33:03Or actually you've got a decent contract for a high end backup
- 33:09or a low end starter if that's the way it goes.
- 33:12And you've got the time to shake off 2 his contract again and
- 33:16potentially sign a quarterback next year where the draft looks
- 33:19potentially a little bit stronger in that area than this
- 33:22year. So do I hate the signing of
- 33:25Malik Willis? No, actually, I think it's a
- 33:27really good, clever signing. Do I hate it along with the fact
- 33:31that we've just dropped 90 odd million on tour over 2 years?
- 33:38Yes and no. I, I don't dislike to, or I've
- 33:42shared that a million times over.
- 33:45Do I think it's as bad as it's currently been made out?
- 33:47No, I think he's had a really terrible season.
- 33:50I think he's had terrible moments, but he's also showed
- 33:54moments have been outstanding in the right system.
- 33:57Do I think he's gone to the right place at the Falcons?
- 33:59No, not at all. Stefanski's maybe got the
- 34:02potential to do it like him and Stefanski could do something
- 34:07that I think a place like the Vikings or even the 49ers is the
- 34:11backup on the league minimum. Like anything like that I think
- 34:14gives to her a better chance to reignite his career.
- 34:17I don't think Falcons is a place to reignite his career.
- 34:21I don't know. I think going going as a backup
- 34:22somewhere he's he's not going to.
- 34:24I think you've got more chance of starting that starting the
- 34:26games at the Falcons. And you got to think of it this
- 34:29way for him. He's getting paid regardless
- 34:31because he can go on that rookie contract wherever he went and
- 34:33not a lot of teams are not a lot of fits might have been going
- 34:36around. Obviously Stefanski going to the
- 34:38Falcons and stuff. And I think he's a decent fit.
- 34:42I'm not going to lie. You've got you've got them,
- 34:47you've got the players, the Falcons now the younger players
- 34:49coming through that are progressing themselves now.
- 34:52I think it's a make or break season for him.
- 34:55And either way he's getting paid.
- 34:56So it makes no difference to him.
- 34:57And he could he just sees the season out and they could go as
- 34:59a league back up to somewhere else afterwards and just float
- 35:02around and be, you know, look like they'd be the likes of just
- 35:08a vector in QB that's just sitting there.
- 35:10It's too good to sit to not be a backup QB somewhere.
- 35:13So it's one of them for me. I think it's a decent I heard
- 35:16that. I think it's a decent fear.
- 35:18I'm not going to lie, I don't think it's the worst teams out
- 35:21there he could have gone to. Look, we are, you know, if you
- 35:26asked us this time last year, is Daniel Jones the right QB for
- 35:29the Indianapolis Colts would have all been like, Nah, this
- 35:33guy is just going there as a bit of a backup waiver.
- 35:35Richardson's kind of get get, get himself fit and go and we're
- 35:38all right. But now look at where he's
- 35:39getting. Obviously, we're going to touch
- 35:41on Daniel Jones in just a second, but it's kind of worked
- 35:45out for him even though he's injured.
- 35:47But moving off now for the QBs, right?
- 35:49Quickly, just before we move on throughout the pod, couple of
- 35:52names that I want to talk to talk about.
- 35:55You've got brother Chubb to the Bills for three years, which I
- 35:57think is a great signing for the Bills and just strengthening the
- 35:59right areas. I think brother Chubb is a
- 36:00quality player. We also have Romeo Dubs going to
- 36:04the Patriots now. The Patriots dropped digs now me
- 36:09and you texted each other about this in in our all bars no
- 36:12philtre discard about this and you said you could kind of see
- 36:16this coming. But we just didn't mention on
- 36:18the pod you kind of saw yeah, I had like an England it were
- 36:20going to come. I I'm a Patriots fan.
- 36:23I didn't see this coming. I thought we've had the
- 36:25leadership of how digs has been on that sideline in the locker
- 36:28room and I know the media gives a lot of stuff out there, but
- 36:32he's been the far front of that kind of car and just showing his
- 36:36how mature he is. I know he's got a lot of legal
- 36:38stuff going on the background at moment, but you know, tell me.
- 36:40And I felt like that hasn't, but like he's that maturity there.
- 36:45I thought he were going to be quite a core player and yes, he
- 36:47weren't the wide receiver one that we kind of brought him in
- 36:49as is Romeo Dubs, No, Does Romeo Dubs signing him?
- 36:55Like does this count out any any form of an A.J.
- 36:58Brown push, which we will kind of favourite again?
- 37:01Yes, I just don't see I, I see it as a bit of a backwards we're
- 37:07getting rid of a wide receiver 1 1/2 because I don't see him as a
- 37:10wide receiver 2. Stefan Diggs and he's not, but
- 37:12he's not a wide receiver one. And getting rid of a 1 1/2 for
- 37:15the out and out wide receiver 2. The pages had never really had
- 37:19out and out wide receiver ones on their team that have big
- 37:23names, yet we're still not signing these big names.
- 37:27And it's just as a Patriots fan, it's a little bit frustrating
- 37:29for me. I just don't see it.
- 37:32I just think the thing with Steph, I think you can almost
- 37:34separate the digs and the dupes thing sort of to be honest,
- 37:37because I think, you know, you heard the whole things years
- 37:41ago, didn't you, about I think it was when he was at the was he
- 37:45the Bills or the Vikings? I can't remember.
- 37:47And it was like, which player would you least like to date
- 37:51your sister? And literally every single
- 37:54player was like, digs, no chance, no chance, no way, no
- 37:58way, not digs. And digs was like, oh, I'm a
- 38:01nice guy and like trying to convince him.
- 38:04And it's like, for me, that just says a lot, doesn't it?
- 38:06Like, if you don't want the guy anywhere near your sister, like,
- 38:10what sort of teammate is he? And I think that from the stuff
- 38:15that we see in the media about him and the stuff we see about
- 38:19the issues he has outside the NFL, whether it's relationships,
- 38:22whether it's the law or anything, like they're not the
- 38:26players you want in your organisation.
- 38:29Which is why I feel like he's just a, he's a stop gap.
- 38:33Whereas Doobs is like a, he's a solid player, like a really
- 38:41solid player. And he can he can do what Diggs
- 38:48has done this year for the Patriots.
- 38:51I don't think Diggs has been like a standout player, but he's
- 38:58just. Nor do I but he but as he got
- 39:00that mature, he's got that experience and that mature.
- 39:02Like I don't know, I don't know. I just don't.
- 39:04I don't want to. I don't want to run on about how
- 39:08how it is because I just I don't know.
- 39:10I just don't see it being it makes no sense for me in this in
- 39:16the business. I think we could have traded for
- 39:19players and there's players that I've openly kind of said they
- 39:22want to come to us. And obviously I understand that
- 39:25the A.J. Brown trade is probably way out
- 39:27of way because it's going to be so expensive.
- 39:29But that could have been the business that put back that
- 39:32makes Brabel. Brabel's had a year one coaching
- 39:35cycle now with with the Patriots.
- 39:37He's no longer the new guy. That could have been the bit of
- 39:39a buff season business that were like, but I meant to make
- 39:41fucking I made I made for business.
- 39:43Now I'm here to do this. Now I'm here to put something on
- 39:47this. We can get a good trader game
- 39:48for a few years. He wants to comfort to us.
- 39:51He wants to come here and do this like and yeah, I know.
- 40:01I just think it could have been that bit of business that what
- 40:03it were. But I hope to go in 12 months
- 40:06time. I'm eating my words and doobs at
- 40:08an absolute flyer of a season. But hey, home, right?
- 40:13Touching on a couple of big name signings, mate that have
- 40:16happened over the past. Couple of days.
- 40:19Daniel Jones, I want to talk to you about Daniel Jones.
- 40:21Right, quickly. So Daniel Jones just signed A2
- 40:25year $88 million contract with the Colts.
- 40:29Now I might, I might make myself look a bit stupid here, right?
- 40:33I've got a question about this. Why, why did the Colts tag him a
- 40:37week ago when they were going to give him a contract?
- 40:41Why not just give him this contract last week?
- 40:46So my understanding is basically, obviously the tag
- 40:53allows negotiation and it allows the opportunity for him to speak
- 41:02to other people. However, it guarantees him a
- 41:09contract in some aspects. So if they tag him, he gets a
- 41:12contract based on, I think if I remember right, it was the
- 41:16transition tag, wasn't it? Yeah, Yeah.
- 41:19So it's a top ten average, a top ten average salary.
- 41:24Now, if I'm right, so researcher Cal did put something in our
- 41:29notes earlier on actually about this that the contract is then
- 41:34ended up with is 16th in the league.
- 41:38So excuse me. So it's actually below when you
- 41:42work it out across the two years.
- 41:45So the tag would have given him a one year contract based on a
- 41:48top 10 on the transition. So he would have needed another
- 41:52another team to match that and see him worth a top ten
- 41:56contract. Whereas the contract he's got is
- 42:00basically 16th in the league, which is mad when you think it's
- 42:09worth about 40 odd mil, you know.
- 42:15So it's it's a difficult one really with Daniel Jones, who I
- 42:22think is he worth the top 16 contract?
- 42:26I don't think so. He had one very good season at
- 42:31the Giants and then that's when he got paid like mad and then
- 42:36had terrible seasons. And then last season he started
- 42:40really well. He had a solid first six or
- 42:42seven games, shit the bed and obviously got injured.
- 42:46So it's hard to say how that season would have gone.
- 42:49So does he deserve for two years top top 16 paid quarterback in
- 42:54the league? I don't think so.
- 42:57So was it a good bit of business by the by the Colts to
- 43:04transition tag him? Yes, because it put all the
- 43:07teams off. Has Daniel Jones got a decent
- 43:11contract? Yes, he has.
- 43:14Did the Colts have the opportunity to get a better
- 43:16quarterback for a better contract?
- 43:22I don't know, because the chance that he doesn't start the start
- 43:25of the season, so he's getting paid 44,000,000 for his first
- 43:30year and probably not staying on the field for six months of
- 43:32that. And that blows my mind that
- 43:35they've managed to get that around.
- 43:37Look, the whole thing about you saying like you shut the bed and
- 43:39all this stuff. I fully agree with you because
- 43:42it's that it's that playing for a contract mentality.
- 43:44You see when interim managers or coaches step in and the team
- 43:48automatically starts playing like they've never played
- 43:50before. But first five games, the
- 43:52manager then gets a contract to take over the team and then the
- 43:55team shut the bed and shit. A QB comes in or a player comes
- 44:00in who's come off of injury or you know, he went to free agency
- 44:04and moved somewhere to mid season storms.
- 44:07It gets paid shits to bed. Like you see this all the time
- 44:12and we'll soon get comfortable. I just, I think it's a fair
- 44:16contract for what he's worth. And I think, I think, you know,
- 44:18he's 16 in the league at the moment.
- 44:20But I think going forward that'll change because of the
- 44:22the climate at the moment, how it's going up and up and up
- 44:25other contracts, but location is one of them.
- 44:28I don't think he's, I don't think he'll have 11 season like
- 44:30he has done before. I don't think he sees out until
- 44:33Christmas this year because I think his injury will really
- 44:36affect how mobile he is and realistically what they could do
- 44:42elsewhere in your tank for another QB.
- 44:44Maybe I don't know across the line on that, but that's that's
- 44:47my thoughts on that. I mean, I like the guy.
- 44:49He's he's he's he's all right. And he's he's shown me a little
- 44:52bit of a difference to why it wasn't the Giants.
- 44:54But hey, ho, I still don't think he's what he what he were made
- 44:57out to be another person that has just resigned and that is
- 45:01Aaron Jones, who is staying at the Vikings one year contract.
- 45:05I think it is just sort of one year extension.
- 45:08He's staying at the Vikings now. It's just it's solid fit.
- 45:11No system. I think it's I think it was
- 45:15which one of them. But they're keeping the veteran
- 45:17running back on on board. And you've got a little dump off
- 45:19valve there not not really hitting your your cap too much.
- 45:23So happy days on that. So about anything from yourself
- 45:26regarding the free agency, the signings or the trades that
- 45:29we've missed or anything like that before we get into our next
- 45:32feature of the evening. No, nothing we've missed.
- 45:36I just, I think, well, I say nothing we've missed, nothing we
- 45:38want to talk about. It's, it's just, I do love this
- 45:44week and I've enjoyed the chaos a little bit.
- 45:47Like the Crosby thing has just been absolute chaos and I've
- 45:49loved that. Absolutely brilliant.
- 45:53For me, it's now like the thing I love about this week is how
- 45:59much this impacts the draft and we'll we'll have draft previews
- 46:04coming up. Obviously it's over a month
- 46:06away, but we'll have draft previews coming up.
- 46:09I'm sure. I don't think either of us, I
- 46:12know Zach obviously are probably a little bit more into the
- 46:14college game than I am, but I don't think either of us would
- 46:17be claimed to be experts. So it's, it's, I just like the,
- 46:25the fact that it's, it's kind of painting a picture as to where
- 46:30these teams are directing in the draft and what they're kind of
- 46:34looking for. And then in the draft, you get
- 46:36all the freaking curve balls that you'd you'd expect.
- 46:40So it's just, I love this time of year and I'm not an expert in
- 46:44it, but I love it. I love it because it's just
- 46:46like, oh, look at this chaos and look at what this is causing to
- 46:50the league and the teams and it it just turns everything upside
- 46:53down. It amazes me how much money is
- 46:55in NFL and you don't get transfers like you do in soccer
- 47:00football, where be where you buy a player, you trade players, you
- 47:03trade them and you people just move from teams, team a lot of
- 47:06time for like, you know, for next and nothing as such.
- 47:08And I I love that. I think soccer is ruined by how
- 47:11much money's involved with transferring players over.
- 47:13And I love the fact of how you can trade people and the draft
- 47:16in particular is fantastic. But yeah, like I say, we'll we
- 47:19will get up on all this guys as well.
- 47:20Let us know who's you've been your favourite signing so far.
- 47:24If you see your favourite trade, your favourite free agent kind
- 47:28of movement, let us know in the comments, whether that's on
- 47:30Spotify, Apple or on YouTube, let us know across there or just
- 47:34fly over to his socials as well. Comment on one of his videos.
- 47:36Let us know what you think are your signings.
- 47:38If your team's involved with the signing.
- 47:40I'm sure Keelan, by the way, is going to get in the comments
- 47:43because he's been odd. Hendrix and this Hendrix and
- 47:46that I we want him here like I think he's going to be super
- 47:50stoked about that and not even to give away his first round
- 47:52picture. Just let us know what your views
- 47:53are and that guys as well. OK right moving on we're taking
- 47:58the jet back over to the UK. We're talking rugby league.
- 48:04It's time for I can't speak get him off ref rugby league is back
- 48:09easier now. We went through a few of the the
- 48:14headlines and scores last week and well, I might have got a bit
- 48:18ahead of myself on certain things and I'll hold my hands up
- 48:21right. And we're going to get to that.
- 48:23Because if you see, if you if you are watching on the on, on
- 48:26the see the visuals, you can see the last score that's on the
- 48:29list. And we're going to touch on
- 48:31that. And it's painful.
- 48:32But this week of rugby I watched, I managed to watch a
- 48:38few of the games over the weekend, but I say I worked very
- 48:40well and I just caught up on the highlights of a few of you
- 48:42things. Now.
- 48:45Wigan will not lose a game this year if they stay fit.
- 48:48They are the best team in the Super League by a country mile.
- 48:53They're unbelievably good this year.
- 48:55They just look flawless and it's painful to say, but they just
- 48:59keep week after week, just keep coming back and just doing
- 49:03everything right and it looks like they're having so much fun
- 49:06out there and that's how you win games, by scoring drives and
- 49:10having fun. You can see they're having fun.
- 49:11They see them just messing about with the ball and just playing
- 49:14with the food and it's, I'm not going to touch too much on that
- 49:17to lose game. But obviously to lose will start
- 49:20out the year very, very strong. And now back-to-back losses now
- 49:24they've had. But playing Wigan this week is
- 49:27is a tough, tough ask and it makes the first game of the
- 49:30season against those look a bit better for us.
- 49:32Like, you know, and they keep putting these points on the
- 49:34board, but it's one of them, yeah.
- 49:37It does, yeah. It's it's they, they just look
- 49:42dominant. They look absolutely dominant.
- 49:45And, but I mean, you know, like, who would have guessed 1636 for
- 49:52a team coming up from the championship?
- 49:55And it's a good score. Like it's a respectable score,
- 49:59especially with the some of the scores that we're going to put
- 50:01up. And then like Warrington,
- 50:03they're having a great year so far.
- 50:06And York took him to 3038. There's two teams there we spoke
- 50:10about a good few times who are putting up some really good
- 50:14scores. And Bradford, like all three
- 50:18teams, it's nuts. Like the Super League this year
- 50:22is. It's exciting, it's exciting.
- 50:25So good, It's so good. Not.
- 50:28Not so much for Huddersfield, not so much for Hull.
- 50:32I'd say not so much for Castleford this year.
- 50:34But I don't I I'm trying not to be biassed like not this year,
- 50:40this week done it again, trying not to be bad for those
- 50:43listeners who listen week in week out.
- 50:44We do it often say, yeah, we mean week.
- 50:47And I'm trying not to be biassed.
- 50:49But like Huddersfield are the worst team in the league again
- 50:57and and whole are down there. I've seen quite a lot on X and
- 51:01Twitter basically saying like the only team worse than us are
- 51:05the Huddersfield from Paul fans. And I probably agree.
- 51:08They're not great. They're not great at all.
- 51:13You know, Wakefield have had a rough year to start with after
- 51:17last year, which was pretty promising, but to then only beat
- 51:20them 1410, it just shows that quality there.
- 51:23And I think the cast game and the cast and Leeds game was, it
- 51:27was frustrating actually, because I don't want to be
- 51:31biassed and say, oh, the score doesn't do it justice because
- 51:34actually I think the score does exactly the justice it deserves.
- 51:39But I don't think it was. I don't think the score reflects
- 51:44a full team effort. I think the score reflects Leeds
- 51:49exposing a weak area of a team. And you know, and that and that
- 51:54edge of ours was it was just catastrophic against Leeds.
- 52:00There's so many memes going around and like videos on X of
- 52:04it. It's just poor.
- 52:07I disagree with you. I think the score is how can I
- 52:16put this? Leeds deserved to score 100
- 52:20pastors because we were absolutely terrible.
- 52:23We, we, we would have not would have not completed a set without
- 52:27if we're still there now. They were one of the worst games
- 52:30of rugby league from cast that I've watched in probably two
- 52:33seasons at least. I thought we looked like we
- 52:36could be arsed. We looked we were.
- 52:38We were tired after after 5 without a mistake because I went
- 52:42to my mum's house to watch it. She went a Sunday in a blessing
- 52:44because we weren't feeling right.
- 52:45Well, so we went, we went to mum's to watch it and said with
- 52:48the 1st 5 minutes we're blowing, we're blowing out already.
- 52:51We are blowing already. And we, we, we're 5 minutes into
- 52:55the game, the first kick off. No one's putting their name.
- 52:58Simple rugby league. This is rugby league winner when
- 53:01you get taught this. We're playing under fives,
- 53:03putting in the ball. What a name on the.
- 53:06Ball try only I only watched the the second-half, so the first.
- 53:10So I worked this. I don't normally work weekends.
- 53:12Just not to get into that. I don't normally work weekends.
- 53:15I worked this weekend and I listened to the first half or
- 53:19most of it on my drive home and then I think I sent you a
- 53:23picture. Actually, I was like, right, I'm
- 53:25I'm I'm not feeling this week. I'm working.
- 53:28I'm going to get in there, get in the hot tub and I'm going to
- 53:30watch it from the hot tub. And I had a right nice relaxing
- 53:33watch of that second-half and I didn't see the first half.
- 53:36I just listened to it on the radio, but they didn't paint
- 53:38that picture that it was just it was more that that right edge of
- 53:44ours was just it was and you it. Was it was awful and it weren't
- 53:51just they weren't just that aside, the first half were the
- 53:54best half forecast, the second-half of the worst half a
- 53:56cast. I'm not talking from a from a, a
- 54:00pundit side of thing. I'm talking from a fan of the
- 54:03team here. We was shocking and we just
- 54:06could not, we just couldn't be. Look, it's hard.
- 54:12Like you say, you don't want to be biassed because we try to be.
- 54:14We try to like give a Fairview on everything here.
- 54:17But you know, I'm, I'm a supporter of teams and I support
- 54:21one of these teams and that team is Castleford.
- 54:23And honest to God, I just think it wouldn't, it would just
- 54:27amateur and it looked really it were really bad light going from
- 54:31the week before. And yes, we played Huddersfield
- 54:32the week before, but how much fun we was having with that bar
- 54:35the week before, not one person over the maps wanted to be on
- 54:38that field. Genuinely not what didn't want
- 54:40to didn't want to be on that field.
- 54:42It was awful to watch. Yeah, it's, it's difficult and
- 54:47it, and yeah, I think it's, I think that's probably a reflect
- 54:52the score's probably a reflection of the first few
- 54:54games of the season. We've had two good games, 2 poor
- 54:57games. So it'll be interesting to see
- 54:59how it goes. But I think the league as a
- 55:01whole is, despite what people said about the what is it a 14
- 55:06team, 14 team league, the real hesitation was the quality.
- 55:11But actually I think the teams that they were worried about,
- 55:15we've actually got the quality. It's.
- 55:18So we've got we've got three teams here that that have been
- 55:20putting loads of that have been putting good games in.
- 55:22You've got like the three teams that have come up, shall I say,
- 55:24you've got Bradford, you've got Toulouse and you've got York.
- 55:28Out of them three teams at this moment, who's the better team
- 55:31and who's finishing above the other three?
- 55:34Because they were the three Like are these, is the quality good
- 55:37enough from the championship to step into the Super League?
- 55:39And honestly, they're showing it's fucking far better at this
- 55:42moment in time. So which of the three teams for
- 55:44me for you? Sorry that that will be top 1-2
- 55:47and three in that I'm not set. I would go York top to lose 2nd
- 55:59and Bradford third, but it's a close.
- 56:01It's close between 2nd and 3rd for me.
- 56:04Really close. See how we're going to go York.
- 56:08Sorry to lose York Bradford up until this week because I think
- 56:13to lose applied the first two weeks really like really, really
- 56:17exciting, but I don't know if they've had their numbers shown
- 56:22now if teams are picking up how to if you kind of maintain that
- 56:27half back, you can win the game by that full back.
- 56:31Sorry, you can win the game. But yeah, I think, I think York
- 56:35have got some quality there and I think, and there's an
- 56:37organisation as well, I think they've got a quality there.
- 56:39I don't know if you've seen it, actually you've been quite ill,
- 56:42but just this last, excuse me, this last 24 hours or so, York
- 56:48of an announced a new partnership with New York Rugby
- 56:53League. So York Knights Rugby League
- 56:58Football club I have now created.
- 57:01I don't know the full intricacies.
- 57:03I've only just seen it today, the New York Knights Rugby
- 57:08League. So they've got the shared badge,
- 57:10they've got the shared branding, just slight difference.
- 57:13It says New York, not York. So I'm just wondering whether
- 57:17that's a reignition, A reignited sort of USA league.
- 57:22I don't know if you remember, like I think it's pre COVID
- 57:25actually there was that USA league wasn't there and there's
- 57:28a York team. Or whether that's like the next
- 57:32Toronto Wolf Pack coming through, I don't know.
- 57:35But York as a club have done a lot right over the last 5-6
- 57:40years, aren't they? Like they've done a lot, right?
- 57:43So it'll be interesting to see what they can do with this.
- 57:46And it's fantastic branding, fantastic.
- 57:50But I think it's, it'd be interesting, I think it's good
- 57:53to see them doing that because like you said, there was that
- 57:56USA league that was trying to start out.
- 57:57And if more teams do this, you've now got the rugby going
- 58:00over to Vegas, which is then going to shine a bit of light
- 58:03over because you've got the NRL and the Super League kind of
- 58:05going over there. So if they can get a USA game of
- 58:08three games in a day, like a bit like a Magic Weekend, but over
- 58:11it stakes. I think I've been pretty cool of
- 58:13all three leagues. You've got the market there for,
- 58:16you've got the money there for it.
- 58:17I think it's the branding and the financial.
- 58:20I think he's I think he's great. I mean, I think more teams need
- 58:22to do it and I'm all I'm all for this and I think it's obviously
- 58:26York and New York just go hand in hand and it's it may it makes
- 58:30sense to do so. All KR though, a team that did
- 58:34go to Vegas, right, All KR beating Huddersfield this
- 58:37weekend. Do you think that's a kick up
- 58:39after the needed to kind of get back into winning ways because
- 58:42they've not looked they've not looked right this year other as
- 58:47reigning champions. And I think it's something that
- 58:51was probably right time, right place for them, like 32 six
- 58:55against Huddersfield and the reigning champions is is
- 58:59considering some of the scores we've seen.
- 59:01It's not a great score. Actually, I think Huddersfield
- 59:03have been terrible. It's basically the same score.
- 59:07I can't remember the exact score, but it's basically the
- 59:09same score, if not a worse score than what cast put by them.
- 59:14So I don't think it says much for whole KR, but it's
- 59:19definitely much needed win. They they needed it and it's
- 59:22come at the right time. So, you know, maybe they've now
- 59:26got the the World Cup challenge and they've got the Vegas game
- 59:29behind them. They might start making run, but
- 59:32I don't think it tells us much at this point.
- 59:35No, it's a rough time to be a Huddersfield fan.
- 59:37No one likes to see teams in that position where you kind of
- 59:42you're the team, you, you're the team that nobody wants to lose
- 59:47and gives you your first win because then what does that say
- 59:50for yourself? Like it's one of them.
- 59:52Do you know what I mean? Anyway, like they're the Super.
- 59:55the Super League scores are on the screen right now.
- 59:56We're not going to go through them all.
- 59:57We've gone through a few of the big games there. the Super
- 59:59League scores are on there. Like I say, if you want to see
- 1:00:01them, head over to our YouTube or Spotify.
- 1:00:04Anything else from this week Brad, in the world of rugby
- 1:00:07league before we move on to one of our favourite features.
- 1:00:13No, I'm I'm looking forward to looking at other balls.
- 1:00:17Oh, and now you say we're going to move in to one of our
- 1:00:24favourite features here, which is all other balls.
- 1:00:30Brad, will you do me a favour and just just let the guys know
- 1:00:32what is all of the balls? So it's where we look at the
- 1:00:40world of sport. So we look at all of the sports
- 1:00:43that we've not touched upon. So obviously we've NFL podcast,
- 1:00:46but we now have our rugby league feature as well.
- 1:00:49So we're going to look at other sports around the globe.
- 1:00:52And I believe, Zach, you're going to start us off with the
- 1:00:55world of football, as in soccer ball.
- 1:00:59Yes, soccer ball indeed. Just to trigger a few, a few of
- 1:01:04the old football fans out there this week, right?
- 1:01:08I believe, and please don't quote me this.
- 1:01:11I think it was a champion Champions League game, right?
- 1:01:14Spurs were playing and Spurs are not in a great place this moment
- 1:01:17in time. And the Spurs manager decided to
- 1:01:20let out the reserve goalkeeper, a man named Antonin Kinski.
- 1:01:27OK. And yeah, Antonin Kinski.
- 1:01:30So they decided to give him a shot, put him in goal.
- 1:01:33What's the worst that can happen?
- 1:01:34They've not been fantastic so far this year.
- 1:01:36Well, what is the worst that can happen?
- 1:01:3817 minutes in they are three nil down.
- 1:01:44Two of the goals come in from two of the two of the goals come
- 1:01:49in from the goalkeeper. Mr Kinski slipping in his own
- 1:01:55box while trying to clear the ball. 17 minutes in, the
- 1:01:59goalkeeper gets substituted. That don't let him finish the
- 1:02:04game. I believe it finished like 5-2
- 1:02:05or five something. This, I don't think he's ever
- 1:02:10happened. The goalkeeper coming off, not
- 1:02:12due to injury, but just coming off 70.
- 1:02:16This is such a morale kick. It's just not least it's not
- 1:02:21good for this guy's career. And I saw David Dehaya post
- 1:02:25something out on Instagram basically saying like, look,
- 1:02:27it's the hardest position to play as goalkeeper.
- 1:02:29You've a lonely position. Please don't, don't get behind.
- 1:02:33Get behind this guy. Let's get him back up.
- 1:02:35You know, he's a professional at the end of the day.
- 1:02:37But if you watch the highlights, I did, I did, I watched the
- 1:02:41highlights this morning on it is it's not great.
- 1:02:44It's not a great look, I'm not going to lie to you.
- 1:02:48It's one of those weird positions, like it's kind of
- 1:02:52like a kicker in the NFL where you've got one job, mate, you've
- 1:02:56got one job. However, I think it's a little
- 1:02:59bit different in terms of your job is made much harder.
- 1:03:04You know, if there's a lot of players around and the balls
- 1:03:06back and forth and stuff like that, like your job's really
- 1:03:08difficult, fair play. You've got one job and that's
- 1:03:12not to fucking slip and stay on your feet and save the save the
- 1:03:17ball. Like save the goal or stop the
- 1:03:19ball, however you want to phrase it.
- 1:03:22Three goals in 17 minutes is rough.
- 1:03:25That's really rough. It is.
- 1:03:27It weren't great. It weren't.
- 1:03:28Professional goalkeeper. Yes, yes, it were great, but
- 1:03:34that's my other my all of the balls of this week.
- 1:03:38I believe we're going to touch on briefly on the opening race
- 1:03:43for our All The balls #2 Brad, what do you reckon?
- 1:03:48We are. So we're going to visit the
- 1:03:49world of the F1. So obviously this year, this
- 1:03:52week did it again. This week was the opening Grand
- 1:03:58Prix of the 2026 Formula One season, and we won't go into all
- 1:04:05the details. You need to revisit our previous
- 1:04:07pods to touch on that. Let's touch on those balls.
- 1:04:12But it's a big season because it's it's it's new regulations,
- 1:04:16it's new chassis, it's new teams, it's new drivers.
- 1:04:22It's basically like every three to four years, the most exciting
- 1:04:28year of changes because it kind of puts new teams into the
- 1:04:32forefront. You know, we've had domination
- 1:04:36over the last 3-4 years of Red Bull and McLaren, but this
- 1:04:41weekend saw Mercedes coming to the forefront as kind of
- 1:04:45expected. So to not go too into heavy
- 1:04:51detail, but in the Formula One you've got teams who build like
- 1:04:59a car and run the organisation and things and you know, hire
- 1:05:03the drivers and stuff like that. And then you've got what they
- 1:05:06call the PU providers, so the power unit providers, which are
- 1:05:10basically engines. Mercedes are one of the teams
- 1:05:15that have both of their own. You've got teams such as Ferrari
- 1:05:23that have got their own. You've got teams then like
- 1:05:26McLaren who run the Mercedes engine, but obviously they run
- 1:05:31their own team, etcetera, etcetera.
- 1:05:36And it's been a massive, massive change this year.
- 1:05:39But Mercedes basically dominated from start to finish and they
- 1:05:43got the 1-2 at the end of the race.
- 1:05:46But for me, what's interesting, what I found really quite
- 1:05:49exciting, two things actually sort of different ends of the
- 1:05:53spectrum is the Ferrari were back there.
- 1:05:57It was basically a strategy error from Ferrari to either
- 1:06:04cost them the win or at least cost them to be competing for
- 1:06:08the win. By the way.
- 1:06:13Yeah, shocker. So for those not into Formula
- 1:06:16One, this is just an ongoing thing that Ferrari, despite the
- 1:06:19brand and the name, have terrible strategic decisions.
- 1:06:24And this year actually, Yeah. So Charles Leclerc, who drives
- 1:06:30for Ferrari, and George Russell, who drives a Mercedes were back
- 1:06:34and forth alternating first and 2nd for a good while and it was
- 1:06:38actually really exciting. It's not often over the last
- 1:06:42three or four years that you get constant swapping over at first
- 1:06:46and second in a in a Formula One race.
- 1:06:49And so obviously the new regulations are working in some
- 1:06:53respects. And I think obviously it takes
- 1:06:55time for the drivers to figure out the new regulations.
- 1:07:01But then you had a safety car which basically brings all the
- 1:07:08pack together and that's what moves the strategy.
- 1:07:12And Mercedes went in and they pitted, they got fresh tyres and
- 1:07:15Ferrari stayed out. And long and short of it is
- 1:07:19that's what cost Ferrari the race.
- 1:07:20If they'd have pitted at the right time, they've added the
- 1:07:23same strategy as Mercedes and would have competed for the 1st
- 1:07:262 and it could have been AA12 Ferrari, it could have been A
- 1:07:31A1234 split between the two teams.
- 1:07:35It would have been unknown really how that would have
- 1:07:37ended. But it had been really exciting
- 1:07:40and but it didn't quite work out.
- 1:07:41Ferrari gained a lot in those last few laps and I think I
- 1:07:45think it worked out. If they'd have had another 5 to
- 1:07:4710 laps, they could have taken over Mercedes.
- 1:07:50So it's it's quite exciting for the future of the season for me,
- 1:07:55but it was just a typical Ferrari shit share on strategy
- 1:07:59that cost them another race, which is a shame really.
- 1:08:02For me, there's two things that I took away that the obviously
- 1:08:06it's the new year of all the new regulations, but what bugs me is
- 1:08:09teams get told about the regulations so they could put
- 1:08:12the research and development into it.
- 1:08:14So the teams and the money, like Mercedes knew at the start of
- 1:08:17last year, they're going to have a really shit season last year,
- 1:08:20but then this year they were going to, they were going to
- 1:08:21smash it. Red Bull, the exact same thing,
- 1:08:23right? 2020, end of 2021 when Max won
- 1:08:27the Abu Dhabi GP, like they knew the season afterwards that they
- 1:08:31were going to storm it. McLaren then knew that they were
- 1:08:32going to storm it. It kind of gives it away.
- 1:08:35We knew last year that that Mercedes were going to be good.
- 1:08:37You just got to put the right drivers into it.
- 1:08:39Yeah, they put them in for me. I'd be like, no, no, the
- 1:08:42regulations come out on the day after the last race of the
- 1:08:46season. You've got pre season to sort
- 1:08:49your cars out. I think it makes it a bit more
- 1:08:50fun to how good you, how good your development team actually
- 1:08:53is rather than knowing two years in advance.
- 1:08:56So you got two years to prep your car for it.
- 1:08:58I get there's a lot of money, there's a lot of stuff involved
- 1:09:00with. I think from a spectator point
- 1:09:01of view, we knew what was coming.
- 1:09:02We knew what was coming and I don't know.
- 1:09:06I think it's a bit more exciting from that, I think.
- 1:09:08To A to a point though, because like there's, there's two sides
- 1:09:12to that. So like I I get your point and I
- 1:09:14agree with it completely, but everyone expected Aston Mine.
- 1:09:18They had Adrian Newey who is arguably the best developer of
- 1:09:23cars ever in the Formula One. He's gone to Aston mine but
- 1:09:27actually their PU is dog shit and now they're suffering
- 1:09:31massively. So they've arguably got one of
- 1:09:33the best designers of cars working with Honda who have
- 1:09:38provided them an absolutely terrible engine.
- 1:09:40So it's not working. However, from the flip side of
- 1:09:45that, I get what you're saying in terms of, oh, they just had a
- 1:09:49few months to to design and do this.
- 1:09:52Yeah, I agree. But actually with Formula One,
- 1:09:54and if you're not into Formula One, which I know you are, Zach,
- 1:09:57so I'm not sort of lecturing you, if you're not into Formula
- 1:10:00One, the when you're talking about aero design and the actual
- 1:10:05engineering involved involved in Formula One, it's basically the
- 1:10:10level below space engineering, aeronautical design.
- 1:10:14So you've got aerospace and then you've got Formula One when
- 1:10:19you're talking about engineering.
- 1:10:20So to design basically a rocket ship that drives on the road in
- 1:10:25three months, it's just not gonna happen, is it?
- 1:10:28You've got one job. Design it for me.
- 1:10:32I know I'm not. I say that, I say that very
- 1:10:34naive, I say that very naively and I understand that they only
- 1:10:37get a certain amount of hours in, in the air in, in that the
- 1:10:39aerodynamics chambers and things and the wind tunnels and things.
- 1:10:42I get that and I understand that.
- 1:10:44I just thinking how funny would it be to the all the cars set
- 1:10:48off and three of them finished because they've all broke down.
- 1:10:51Look at OO Piastre, by the way, who was tipped to be one of the
- 1:10:55world champions last year, who who was fighting London Oris by
- 1:10:59the way, to fall out Drivers World Championship last year
- 1:11:04didn't go right get round on the opening lap, not in the race in
- 1:11:07the warm up lap because he spun it out and crashed on his home
- 1:11:11race. Find that that that type of
- 1:11:13stuff for me is hilarious. But the F1 opening weekend we've
- 1:11:16had we've had a few comments actually when we spoke about F1
- 1:11:19previously, like can you talk more on F1 now the F1 season's
- 1:11:23starting. Obviously we've got I can't
- 1:11:25speak with the rugby league season and we are touched on the
- 1:11:27NFL as we would do. Do you guys want to hear do do
- 1:11:30you want us to kind of feature F1 as one of our all the balls
- 1:11:33every week? If so, let us know in the
- 1:11:34comments below. We love F1.
- 1:11:36We can talk F1 if you guys like it as well.
- 1:11:38We'd rather make sure that you guys are getting the the the
- 1:11:41content and and and the discussion that you that you
- 1:11:43want to hear. But that's how all the balls for
- 1:11:47the week. We're going to move on to our
- 1:11:48final segment of this week and it's our recurring, yeah, our
- 1:11:53recurring segment for a Mr Cowl research.
- 1:11:57Carl's conundrum that brings in week in, week out and last
- 1:12:00year's conundrum is on the screen now Which?
- 1:12:04You just said it. You just said last year's.
- 1:12:06What is wrong with us? Yes, what's wrong with us?
- 1:12:12I've got an excuse, right? I've got an excuse.
- 1:12:14I've been, I've been up since 3:30 for work this morning and
- 1:12:17I'm not very well. So I I've got an excuse, right?
- 1:12:19That's fine. I could use that for this week
- 1:12:21and this week only. So last week, Carl's conundrum
- 1:12:25was who was the highest drafted NFL kicker.
- 1:12:29So who was the highest drafted kicker in NFL history?
- 1:12:31And it was a Charlie Gogolak. Go, go Gogolak, Charlie Goga.
- 1:12:37Like, it was drafted 6th overall in 1966 by the Washington
- 1:12:41Redskins. So that's that is one that only
- 1:12:44researcher Carl would know. So, yeah, if you did get that,
- 1:12:48congratulations. I don't actually think many
- 1:12:49people got into our DMS about that one.
- 1:12:52But if you don't know as well, when we do, when we do these,
- 1:12:55we'll get them onto the onto all the socials, get in touch with
- 1:12:59their comment, drop us a message and all that jazz.
- 1:13:02Carl Scrutman for this week is Josh Allen broke the record for
- 1:13:07the most career rushing touchdowns for a quarterback in
- 1:13:102025, but whose record did he break?
- 1:13:14So Josh Allen broke the record for the most career rushing
- 1:13:17touchdowns for a quarterback in 2025, but whose record did he
- 1:13:23break? Let us know in the comments.
- 1:13:25Drop us a message. What do you think and who do you
- 1:13:30think he broke the record for? Let us know on there.
- 1:13:32The the the conundrum will get posted out onto all our socials
- 1:13:35as well. Now, last week, Brad, we asked
- 1:13:38our lovely listeners for some offseason feedback or
- 1:13:43suggestions from them in terms of if there's anybody that they
- 1:13:47should that they would like to see on the pod.
- 1:13:50I want to put that out again one more time.
- 1:13:52If you know of anybody that they don't have to create content or
- 1:13:56be on another podcast, but it's always a bonus.
- 1:13:58If so, just general sports fans within the sports that we kind
- 1:14:01of enjoy and and talk about. Do you think that they'd be good
- 1:14:04fit to come and feature on the pod, get in touch with us with a
- 1:14:07name or tell them to get in touch with us?
- 1:14:09We'd love to get people on throughout this offseason and
- 1:14:12chat and chat some absolute balls to other people as well.
- 1:14:17But yeah, that is the show done today.
- 1:14:21Brad, anything from yourself before we sign?
- 1:14:23Off No, it's been a pleasure and say I know you've been ill and
- 1:14:28world's smallest piling and stuff, but you've done well
- 1:14:31mate, you've done well. We're proud you've got through
- 1:14:33it. Thank you.
- 1:14:35I feel the love. I feel the love.
- 1:14:37But yeah, go follow all of the socials at ABNF pod across all
- 1:14:42your socials YouTube just search all balls no philtre podcast.
- 1:14:46Go listen, watch, subscribe, like, comment, love, do whatever
- 1:14:50you want to do, share it, listen love you lots.
- 1:14:54We'll see you next week and I promise I'll be more energetic.
