Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, we are back on another edition of birds weekly
- 0:13Speaker 1: presented by the inside of the birds network. He's Barrett Brooks.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm Derek gun two down and up next, the Chicago
- 0:19Speaker 1: bears and a Monday night national showdown encounter. And of
- 0:24Speaker 1: course the Eagles feel they owe the bears something after
- 0:26Speaker 1: what happened a season ago, but the bears are in
- 0:30Speaker 1: kind of a dilemma because this team scored 59 points
- 0:34Speaker 1: in his first game and was held just three points
- 0:37Speaker 1: by Minnesota and In their second game, and more importantly,
- 0:41Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter of that game against Minnesota, their quarterback,
- 0:44Speaker 1: Caleb Williams, goes down with a hamstring injury. We don't
- 0:48Speaker 1: know his status at this particular time, but hamstring injuries,
- 0:51Speaker 1: you usually don't come back in a week's time. Now,
- 0:55Speaker 1: they're saying it's not too severe, but, hey, that could
- 0:57Speaker 1: be smoking daggers right now to force the Eagles to
- 1:00Speaker 1: prepare for him. But, Barrett, let's talk about what Caleb
- 1:05Speaker 1: means to this offense. in terms of it being not
- 1:08Speaker 1: just functional, but exceptional in his style of play.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you look at it, man.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Caleb was like, he's the glue that makes that all
- 1:19Speaker 3: work together. I can remember when he first came out.
- 1:21Speaker 3: I didn't think he was good. I didn't think he
- 1:23Speaker 3: was the top quarterback. He should have been drafted number one.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I actually thought that Jaden Daniels was that guy. And
- 1:32Speaker 3: to me, it was like, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:35Speaker 2: He's okay, but Can he afford to be in the
- 1:38Speaker 2: NFL to play that frenetically?
- 1:39Speaker 3: You know, can he do it? And he did everything that,
- 1:42Speaker 3: you know, what he's supposed to do and more. He's
- 1:46Speaker 3: become that guy that's been wielding his team to go
- 1:49Speaker 3: out there and play as good as they played. He
- 1:51Speaker 3: has been that major cog. He has been really good, man.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So for me to say anything other than if he
- 1:58Speaker 3: had been healthy right now, he'd be on an MVP
- 2:02Speaker 3: type of tear the way he was playing that first
- 2:04Speaker 3: game and going into this game. You know, I thought
- 2:06Speaker 3: he played that well. But he's, you know, hurt. And
- 2:10Speaker 3: when you say that he's not going to play, I mean,
- 2:14Speaker 3: he's going to play. There's a chance he might play.
- 2:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Not the way he was squealing and yelling the way,
- 2:19Speaker 3: you know. I mean, it looked bad, bro.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Yeah, those hamstrings ain't no joke, man.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 3: When I saw it, man, the way his legs, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 3: started shaking, I mean, I'm like, yo, that looked really bad.
- 2:29Speaker 3: So I'm like, there's no way that he plays this week.
- 2:32Speaker 3: And then it might be a little gamesmanship because not
- 2:34Speaker 3: from what I saw. You know, I don't know if
- 2:36Speaker 3: it would be, you know, if I would say he
- 2:38Speaker 3: would come back, man. It looked pretty bad, man. He
- 2:41Speaker 3: got carted off. That would look, oh, man, that looked gruesome, man.
- 2:44Speaker 3: It looked gruesome, man. I mean, I'd have been hollering too, bro.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I mean, I'd have been, oh, man. You know, it
- 2:50Speaker 3: just looked really bad. But see, I never ran that fast.
- 2:52Speaker 3: then I could pull a hamstring. So this is a
- 2:55Speaker 3: lot different than me.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And now unless somebody said free food, I've seen you
- 2:58Speaker 1: sprint when somebody said free food. Hey, I was surprised
- 3:05Speaker 1: that when we were talking off camera about this Bears matchup,
- 3:08Speaker 1: the first thing you said was Chicago's running attack. And,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know, when you combine DeAndre Swift with the kid,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know, Monongai, that is a potent one-two punch.
- 3:18Speaker 5: And it's a punch that gave the Eagles problems in
- 3:21Speaker 5: the past.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Well, you know, they put it on us, man. They
- 3:25Speaker 3: ran right down our throat and made us like it.
- 3:28Speaker 3: But I will say this. Even though they made us
- 3:31Speaker 3: like it, we were still in the game. We were
- 3:35Speaker 3: still right there. We had an opportunity to win the
- 3:38Speaker 3: game still.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So they beat up on us, yes. But did they
- 3:42Speaker 2: really just totally shut us down? No, uh-uh. I just
- 3:45Speaker 2: thought it was from a defensive standpoint, I didn't like
- 3:48Speaker 2: the way he did this on the defensive side of
- 3:50Speaker 2: the ball. They made us... They made us look real,
- 3:52Speaker 2: real simple, man, the way he was running the ball.
- 3:54Speaker 3: And I really believe that this is going to be
- 3:57Speaker 3: a major point of emphasis with our defensive guys. They're
- 3:59Speaker 3: going to be like, look, we can't allow that to
- 4:01Speaker 3: ever happen again. You can't do us like you did
- 4:05Speaker 3: us again.
- 4:06Speaker 5: No.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I mean, Darnell Wright put his hands on Jalen Carter
- 4:11Speaker 3: and made him like him. And that's when I really
- 4:14Speaker 3: saw Jalen Carter and the extent of his injury. You
- 4:16Speaker 3: could tell that he was He was not good at all, man.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I mean, his shoulders were just dropping. I've never seen
- 4:23Speaker 3: him get manhandled like that, and that's just because he
- 4:24Speaker 3: had no strength in his shoulders.
- 4:27Speaker 2: You could kind of tell. You could see the amount of.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Pain he was going through and how weak his shoulders
- 4:33Speaker 3: were at that time.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So Wright took advantage of it.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Well, I can see we're going through the same situation
- 4:39Speaker 3: this year, but it's going to be a different outcome.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Jalen Carter probably marked this on his calendar. he can't
- 4:47Speaker 3: keep receipts to that because he gave a good old-fashioned
- 4:51Speaker 3: butt whooping, and I think he's going to want to
- 4:53Speaker 3: go get his just due. He's going to want to
- 4:55Speaker 3: give him and oblige him the same way that he
- 4:57Speaker 3: gave it to him. So I can see him going
- 4:59Speaker 3: out there and really putting it all right just because
- 5:02Speaker 3: of what happened last year.

- 7:36Speaker 1: The way the Bears ran on the Eagles' defense, is
- 7:39Speaker 1: that more bulletin board material? How much do you think
- 7:43Speaker 1: the defensive coach's Talk to the players this week about
- 7:46Speaker 1: what happened a season ago to get them to that
- 7:48Speaker 1: next level in terms of attention and motivation for this
- 7:51Speaker 1: Monday night game.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Man, it's definitely going to be a heavyweight fight up front.
- 7:58Speaker 3: It's going to be a heavyweight fight. I know for
- 8:01Speaker 3: a fact that defense got embarrassed last year, really embarrassed.
- 8:05Speaker 3: And I know that they said, no, we can't have
- 8:07Speaker 3: this again. We got to go out there and show them.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I owe you.
- 8:11Speaker 3: There's going to be a bunch of IOUs out there.
- 8:13Speaker 3: A bunch of, okay, you know, what you did last year.
- 8:16Speaker 3: You know, I remember this. You know, so you're going
- 8:18Speaker 3: to take all this.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Take that. You're going to take all this. I'm about
- 8:20Speaker 2: to make it happen. You know what I mean?
- 8:22Speaker 3: I'm about to, you know, make sure that you don't
- 8:24Speaker 3: forget this. And I expect nothing less than Jalen Carter
- 8:30Speaker 3: to go out there and put his hands on right
- 8:33Speaker 3: and really fight, you know what I'm saying, from the
- 8:35Speaker 3: start of that gun to when the fat lady's singing,
- 8:38Speaker 3: you know, or the fat man's singing, or I'm singing.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I just want to see a street fight out there.
- 8:44Speaker 2: A street fight.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You know, if Caleb can't go, their backup quarterback is
- 8:50Speaker 1: a guy named Tyson Badgett, who went to Shepherd University.
- 8:55Speaker 1: All right, now, Case Keenum is at number three. How
- 8:58Speaker 1: bad is Case Keenum if a guy from Shepherd University
- 9:00Speaker 1: beat him out for the number two spot? You look
- 9:03Speaker 1: at this guy, Tyson. You know, he's in his fourth year.
- 9:06Speaker 1: He's played in a total of 13 games. He's completed
- 9:09Speaker 1: almost 66% of his passes, but... He only has three
- 9:12Speaker 1: career touchdowns and six interceptions. How much do you know
- 9:15Speaker 1: about this guy? And because there's such limited footage on him,
- 9:21Speaker 1: how much can the Eagles prepare for the unknown in
- 9:24Speaker 1: terms of what Ben Johnson may do to simplify the
- 9:28Speaker 1: game for this kid and what this kid can deliver? Now,
- 9:31Speaker 1: he's surrounded by a wealth of talent. When you look
- 9:34Speaker 1: at Roma, Dunzey, Luther Burton, Cole Komet, Colston Loveland, and
- 9:38Speaker 1: of course the two running backs. So this gets surrounded
- 9:40Speaker 1: by a lot of talent, but how well can you
- 9:43Speaker 1: prepare for the unknown when you haven't seen a lot
- 9:45Speaker 1: of this guy on paper?
- 9:47Speaker 2: It doesn't matter who they have there.
- 9:48Speaker 3: They're going to probably approach this game like they're going
- 9:51Speaker 3: to play Williams. They're going to have to approach it
- 9:53Speaker 3: like that because you have to think that you know,
- 9:57Speaker 3: these guys don't care.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Who's in front of them.
- 10:01Speaker 3: They should be a bunch of empty, faceless, you know, helmets,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and they're just trying to whoop the guys in front
- 10:06Speaker 3: of them. Take care of their game as opposed to
- 10:08Speaker 3: worrying about anything else.
- 10:10Speaker 2: And I think that's the biggest thing. They shouldn't worry
- 10:12Speaker 2: about it.
- 10:13Speaker 3: They should play like they're playing against Williams because I've
- 10:16Speaker 3: seen it happen before.
- 10:18Speaker 2: For instance.
- 10:19Speaker 3: You remember the commanders a couple years ago. Backup quarterback,
- 10:24Speaker 3: nobody knew anything about him. What was his name?
- 10:26Speaker 2: Tyler Haneke?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And he beat us. He beat us.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So there's no way that they can come in thinking
- 10:33Speaker 3: anything other than, all right, we just got to whoop
- 10:36Speaker 3: these guys in front of us.
- 10:37Speaker 2: We're not worried about anything but making this happen.
- 10:40Speaker 3: So I can see them not worrying about who the
- 10:42Speaker 3: starter is going to be, but preparing like it's Williams.
- 10:44Speaker 3: And if they don't get Williams, you know, hey, I'm
- 10:47Speaker 3: cool with that, but we still got to go out
- 10:49Speaker 3: there and play with just, I mean, even more heart
- 10:52Speaker 3: than we had before.
- 10:54Speaker 2: So, you know, I don't think they'll make that mistake again.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You expect the Bears defense to come after Jalen? Just
- 11:00Speaker 1: like Washington, just like Tennessee. I mean, you look at
- 11:02Speaker 1: the Bears, Montez Sweat, we know about him from his
- 11:05Speaker 1: days in Washington. Yep. Our old friend TJ Edwards, who
- 11:09Speaker 1: played here a few years and has had a successful
- 11:11Speaker 1: career in Chicago. They've got Grady Jarrett in the trenches.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You know, Devin Bush, the linebacker. You expect them to
- 11:17Speaker 1: come after Jalen and try to make him force the issue?
- 11:20Speaker 3: I think they are. You know, even, you know, Young,
- 11:22Speaker 3: you know, safety they have, and Thineman. I mean, he
- 11:24Speaker 3: was one of the guys I wanted to hear. They've
- 11:26Speaker 3: got a defense, and they, you know, and I truly
- 11:29Speaker 3: believe that, you know, they're going to bring the house.
- 11:31Speaker 2: They're going to definitely bring the house.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Dennis Allen has done a lot in his illustrious, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 3: defensive-minded career. And, you know, he's going to try to
- 11:39Speaker 3: heat them up a little bit. But, I mean, I
- 11:41Speaker 3: know Jalen Hurst is going to welcome that. And the
- 11:44Speaker 3: way he's reading things, and getting the ball out on
- 11:47Speaker 3: time and running this West Coast offense, and then the
- 11:50Speaker 3: added fact that the offensive line will be a lot better,
- 11:53Speaker 3: it'll be a totally different outcome of what you saw.
- 11:55Speaker 3: The last game they played last year, but really more
- 11:58Speaker 3: so this game this week because they have so much
- 12:00Speaker 3: stuff that they can go on, coach, coach, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 3: be coached on, and go out there with a lot
- 12:06Speaker 3: more of the intensity and speed that they need to
- 12:09Speaker 3: go out there and really run the offense the way
- 12:11Speaker 3: it's supposed to be run.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I mean, you saw a glimpse of it. And I
- 12:14Speaker 2: think they're like, okay, it does work.
- 12:16Speaker 3: And I think everybody's going to be more and more
- 12:18Speaker 3: invested in making sure they run it the right way now.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Okay, so who do you like in this game? Give
- 12:23Speaker 5: me a score.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you the truth. I like the Eagles.
- 12:27Speaker 3: And it's not like I'm looking through my green-colored glasses
- 12:31Speaker 3: or drinking a Kool-Aid.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I just think this team has a lot on the
- 12:36Speaker 2: defensive side of the ball, and they are unproven.
- 12:39Speaker 3: And until they go out and start really dominating guys,
- 12:43Speaker 3: they're going to keep working. and be in a position
- 12:46Speaker 3: where they're going to go out and fight this Bears team.
- 12:49Speaker 3: It's going to be a street fight, especially up front.
- 12:50Speaker 3: So in the trenches, it'll be a street fight. On
- 12:53Speaker 3: the offensive side of the ball, Jalen Hurts knows they're
- 12:55Speaker 3: going to try to blitz him. He's going to try
- 12:56Speaker 3: to get the ball out as fast as he can
- 12:58Speaker 3: to his weapons, and he sees the type of weapons
- 13:00Speaker 3: that he has, so he's going to be a lot
- 13:02Speaker 3: more confident to throw the ball in the middle of
- 13:03Speaker 3: the field and make things happen. So this will be
- 13:07Speaker 3: a coming-out party for an offense that we haven't seen
- 13:10Speaker 3: work hand-in-hand for two quarters, I mean two halves.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I want to see them working for two halves as
- 13:14Speaker 2: opposed to one.
- 13:15Speaker 3: So I'm going to say Eagles win, kind of the
- 13:18Speaker 3: long saying, we're 28-21, Bears win.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Well, the Eagles have won their first two games by
- 13:27Speaker 1: a grand total of six points. You have more confidence
- 13:30Speaker 1: than I do of them fixing their offensive line problems
- 13:34Speaker 1: in a short turnaround than I do. I don't know
- 13:37Speaker 1: if it's going to be fixed against a better Bears
- 13:39Speaker 1: defensive front I don't know if the Eagles' defensive front
- 13:44Speaker 1: is going to get that much better trying to stop
- 13:47Speaker 1: a better running attack as Chicago has compared to Tennessee
- 13:51Speaker 1: and Washington's run attack. And even though they may be
- 13:55Speaker 1: playing with this backup quarterback named Badgett, I think the Bears,
- 13:58Speaker 1: like we talked about, they're going to try to run
- 14:00Speaker 1: the ball down the Eagles' throat to keep this game close.
- 14:03Speaker 5: I think it's going to be another nail-biter.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I think from a media and fan perspective, you're going
- 14:13Speaker 1: to have to breathe into that bag to calm yourself down.
- 14:16Speaker 1: But Jalen has done it twice already, and I expect
- 14:18Speaker 1: him to do it again. I see this being like
- 14:20Speaker 1: a 23-20 type game. Eagles coming out on top, going
- 14:24Speaker 1: to 3-0. All right, that's going to do it for
- 14:27Speaker 1: this prediction edition of Birds Weekly presented by the Inside
- 14:30Speaker 1: the Birds Network. For my colleague, my friend, my homer, buddy,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm Derrick Gunn.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Until next week, when we do it again, we'll see you, everybody.
