- 1:19Speaker 3: Happy Thursday, everyone. You know when there's random music on,
- 1:24Speaker 3: that means Chip is not here at all. And then
- 1:28Speaker 3: when it is Salinas... Salinas... Yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 4: You're one of us. Please don't change the radio station.
- 1:37Speaker 4: They're like, oh, God, she's back.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Chip Howard Sports Talk today. Jason, no Jared. He couldn't
- 1:42Speaker 3: make it in today, so it is... The wonderful, the
- 1:47Speaker 3: just everybody knows Miss Carla Castillo from KBTX. And we
- 1:52Speaker 3: are specially guested today with her son, Kyle. Blessed by
- 1:56Speaker 3: my appearance. Absolutely blessed by your appearance today. So it
- 2:01Speaker 3: is a Thursday afternoon, huge sports weekend coming up. Super
- 2:05Speaker 3: excited about that. College football is huge. We are going
- 2:07Speaker 3: to get into that. NFL football starts tonight. And this weekend,
- 2:11Speaker 3: we will talk a little bit about that. I am
- 2:14Speaker 3: excited to talk about high school football here in just
- 2:17Speaker 3: a second and going over. Everybody knows that when Jared
- 2:22Speaker 3: and I are on here, we talk about the business
- 2:24Speaker 3: of sports. And so that's one of the things I
- 2:25Speaker 3: would like to talk with you as you are wrapping
- 2:28Speaker 3: up your year as the chairman of the board of
- 2:30Speaker 3: directors for.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm immediate past chair.
- 2:34Speaker 3: You've already wrapped up your year.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 4: I am what seniorite is.
- 2:39Speaker 3: You're about to roll off of the board for five years.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I think so. Four or five definitely feels like that.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you get that senioritis in there. So I want
- 2:48Speaker 3: to talk about how the business of sports really affects
- 2:52Speaker 3: the community with things that are going on this weekend.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And then... Everybody also knows that I and Jared, and
- 3:00Speaker 3: even you, Ms. Carla, when you come in with us,
- 3:04Speaker 3: do not talk a whole lot of baseball. I see Kyle.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Kyle with his Giants hat on. Kyle with his Giants
- 3:10Speaker 3: hat on right now. But yeah, we don't talk a lot,
- 3:12Speaker 3: at least until October. And it's still mid-September, but the
- 3:16Speaker 3: name of this show is Chip Howard Sports Talk. And
- 3:19Speaker 3: when the namesake of the show sends you a text
- 3:22Speaker 3: before you get ready to go on talking about the
- 3:25Speaker 3: Houston Astros, I'm like, you know what? That means we're
- 3:26Speaker 3: going to talk a little sports or a little baseball.
- 3:28Speaker 4: A little baseball, yeah. Well, and I think you've talked
- 3:30Speaker 4: about baseball. It's such a long, glorious season, right?
- 3:34Speaker 6: It is.
- 3:34Speaker 4: You can start out. And so you can start and
- 3:37Speaker 4: you can sound like the Dallas Cowboys and say this
- 3:39Speaker 4: is our year.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 4: And then 145 games later, you're like, next year?
- 3:45Speaker 3: And we are lucky, and I say this all the time,
- 3:46Speaker 3: we love Chip, and he allows Jared and I, especially
- 3:49Speaker 3: in the months of July, when he decides that he
- 3:52Speaker 3: wants to go on sabbatical and to the cooler weathers,
- 3:55Speaker 3: and so... It is hard to talk about baseball during
- 3:58Speaker 3: the month of July when it is game 86. And again,
- 4:02Speaker 3: there's another 80 to go. And so many things go
- 4:05Speaker 3: up and down when it comes to that. So, yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 3: that's why we don't talk a lot of baseball in
- 4:08Speaker 3: the month of July when we're in here. But it
- 4:11Speaker 3: is September now.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And that is the beauty of baseball, right? You think
- 4:14Speaker 4: a team that has been totally out of it and
- 4:16Speaker 4: then there's that magic and you're like, oh, man, I
- 4:19Speaker 4: am right back in it. And I'm excited because this
- 4:22Speaker 4: team that had no chance before.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Unless it's the Giants. Oh, well, yeah. Oh, gosh.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Plus, here's the thing, though. The more they lose, the
- 4:29Speaker 4: more Hello Kitty nights apparently they get.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And that's the one thing. Like, I am very, very
- 4:35Speaker 3: jealous of, and what is their park called now?
- 4:38Speaker 7: Oracle?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Oracle has, like, you see, if you follow them, like,
- 4:42Speaker 3: they have the best food. throughout that park. And so
- 4:45Speaker 3: that's one of the places I absolutely want to just
- 4:47Speaker 3: go to visit just to eat the food.
- 4:49Speaker 4: You also have to go on like Star Wars nights.
- 4:51Speaker 4: They do that really well. But listen, it would be
- 4:53Speaker 4: fan-freaking-tastic if they could win. Yeah. Don't ask for too much.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And so the reason outside of having Carla back in
- 5:03Speaker 3: here with us that I had Selena lead off the
- 5:06Speaker 3: show is because, speaking of the business of our community,
- 5:11Speaker 3: there was a wonderful GIST party.
- 5:15Speaker 4: It really was, yes.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Going on this weekend in downtown Bryan. And so I
- 5:20Speaker 3: wanted to give you a quick opportunity to be able
- 5:22Speaker 3: to talk about that. what was going on and like
- 5:24Speaker 3: just how, how it affected our community.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Okay. So, uh, this weekend, BCS Fiestas Padres, we are
- 5:30Speaker 4: a new organization and our desire is to celebrate, uh, yesterday, uh, October, October.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Oh my God.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Ay, Dios mio. Okay, it is Hispanic Heritage Month. And
- 5:42Speaker 4: part of that is, of course, we are right here
- 5:45Speaker 4: near Mexico, right? You see me in my Mexico jersey.
- 5:47Speaker 4: We are very proud Mexican-Americans. But in creating this new organization,
- 5:52Speaker 4: we would like to include all of the Hispanic countries
- 5:56Speaker 4: that are a part of Hispanic Heritage Month. We've got
- 5:58Speaker 4: a beautifully diverse community. So this weekend, Sunday, There was
- 6:01Speaker 4: a parade that was incredible. Oh, you were there, thankfully.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I say that because we needed judges to judge our float.
- 6:07Speaker 3: And I got to judge. I was so happy to
- 6:08Speaker 3: be able to do that.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And what I love is we started off with the
- 6:10Speaker 4: Aggie Band, right? So you started off right, and that
- 6:13Speaker 4: just gets you so pumped up and excited. But then
- 6:16Speaker 4: after that, there was a festival in downtown Bryan. And
- 6:18Speaker 4: if you can imagine the first Friday layout, Main Street
- 6:22Speaker 4: was shut down. We had music at three different stages.
- 6:25Speaker 4: It was exciting because the vendors, the food vendors especially,
- 6:29Speaker 4: we heard that they were set up and they had
- 6:31Speaker 4: to go. Their sales were so good, they had to
- 6:33Speaker 4: go to the store or back to their restaurants to
- 6:36Speaker 4: get food more because they continued selling out. But the
- 6:40Speaker 4: great part about it was you didn't have to be Hispanic. And,
- 6:43Speaker 4: you know, we come in all shapes and sizes and colors.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I get asked, Sue, if you're Mexican, why are you white? Oh, God.
- 6:53Speaker 4: We are, you know, again, we are a beautiful, diverse people.
- 6:55Speaker 4: But what I loved is seeing different community members who
- 6:59Speaker 4: are not Hispanic, who have zero ties to the Hispanic community,
- 7:02Speaker 4: and them later saying on social media, what a great
- 7:05Speaker 4: way to... We were out together. We were dancing together, dancing.
- 7:09Speaker 4: And it was a hot day. I mean, you remember
- 7:11Speaker 4: how hot it was. But so it was it was
- 7:13Speaker 4: a good economic boost. It was just a good reminder
- 7:16Speaker 4: that we have so much to celebrate in the midst of,
- 7:19Speaker 4: you know, some uncertainty sometimes. So it was just a
- 7:22Speaker 4: beautiful way to get people together and celebrate from the
- 7:25Speaker 4: littles at our Brian ISD. They are incredible. One of
- 7:30Speaker 4: the award winning winners. floats was Johnson Elementary, and they
- 7:34Speaker 4: were just so precious. And so it's just a neat way,
- 7:38Speaker 4: anytime you can get the community together. And listen, I
- 7:41Speaker 4: hear all the time, we know how people can be,
- 7:46Speaker 4: especially on social media. Well, if you like that country,
- 7:48Speaker 4: go back so much. Here's what I think about that.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I have likened the Hispanic heritage and the pride to,
- 7:56Speaker 4: you know how Texans are so Proud of being Texans.
- 8:00Speaker 4: And you should be, right? I say that as a
- 8:02Speaker 4: California native who's been in Texas long enough. Don't California
- 8:07Speaker 4: my Texans. My son is Texas born, so I did
- 8:10Speaker 4: something right, right?
- 8:12Speaker 8: Yep.
- 8:12Speaker 4: But here's the thing. I love Texas, but it doesn't
- 8:15Speaker 4: mean I don't love America, right?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 8:17Speaker 4: And, like, we are... The Texas culture is... I mean,
- 8:20Speaker 4: try to explain that to somebody in Connecticut. You can't, right?
- 8:24Speaker 4: And so, like, it's... You can be proud and love
- 8:27Speaker 4: everything and celebrate everything. Who doesn't want to party, dude?
- 8:30Speaker 4: If you don't, I mean, I'm sorry. Who doesn't want
- 8:31Speaker 4: to eat?
- 8:32Speaker 3: There were so many food trucks down there, and everything
- 8:35Speaker 3: looked and tasted from what we were able to sample
- 8:38Speaker 3: and or just grab and eat and smelled so good. And, like,
- 8:41Speaker 3: that's just one of the things, like... When it is
- 8:44Speaker 3: a festival like that, whether it is a German or
- 8:48Speaker 3: a Czech festival or a Hispanic festival or anything like that,
- 8:52Speaker 3: you just come down there and enjoy everything that's going on.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I think I would.
- 9:00Speaker 3: And the only reason why I'm saying it this way
- 9:01Speaker 3: is because it should be different because it should not
- 9:03Speaker 3: be 99 degrees in mid-September. Because I'm thinking about, like,
- 9:07Speaker 3: a German festival in Oktoberfest is, like, really cool because
- 9:10Speaker 3: it's a little bit cooler. But it's mid-September. It should
- 9:12Speaker 3: not have been that hot on Sunday.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I feel like the Germans would not let the heat
- 9:17Speaker 4: get in the way of their celebrations.
- 9:18Speaker 3: No, because you get cold beer.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Exactly. Yeah, that would be.
- 9:21Speaker 10: Big.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Giant steins of cold beer. So, yeah, that's why it
- 9:24Speaker 3: doesn't matter how hot it is. But, like, no, it
- 9:26Speaker 3: was a wonderful... wonderful situation in downtown Bryan. And that's
- 9:31Speaker 3: what like, we just talking about how things, can be
- 9:35Speaker 3: such a boost to the economy and just be just
- 9:38Speaker 3: a lot of fun that goes along with it. I
- 9:39Speaker 3: was so happy to hear when you were like all,
- 9:42Speaker 3: a lot of the food trucks, if not all of
- 9:43Speaker 3: them had to like figure out how to go and
- 9:45Speaker 3: get more because there were just so many people down there.
- 9:48Speaker 4: And, uh, it's a challenging time, right? This is a
- 9:50Speaker 4: new endeavor for us. And we thought, gosh, I hope
- 9:52Speaker 4: there's just enough people. It's an investment on their part
- 9:55Speaker 4: to decide we're going to open up. We're going to
- 9:57Speaker 4: set up shop. Are people going to come to us?
- 9:59Speaker 4: So thank you, community, for going out and supporting those vendors.
- 10:04Speaker 3: No, it was a great time. And then you, again,
- 10:08Speaker 3: the other reason, and I had already left by then because, again,
- 10:10Speaker 3: it was very, very hot. But there was a Selena
- 10:13Speaker 3: tribute band at the end as well.
- 10:16Speaker 4: And boy, can Selena unite the world. I'll tell you what. Listen,
- 10:21Speaker 4: send that Selena impersonator over to the Middle East.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I'm kidding. Does anyone know about Selena in the Middle East?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Everybody does.
- 10:32Speaker 4: It is great to see and hear people of all
- 10:35Speaker 4: backgrounds singing in English and Spanish, whatever, just kind of
- 10:38Speaker 4: taking that pride and that ownership of her. Whether you're
- 10:41Speaker 4: a Texan American, Hispanic, whatever you are, you, you love
- 10:45Speaker 4: you some.
- 10:50Speaker 3: There was the old ad that Texas is like a
- 10:52Speaker 3: whole other country. Exactly.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Right. As I'm making up words. But it really is
- 10:58Speaker 4: such a special place, and I have to tell my
- 11:00Speaker 4: family back home in California, no, we don't all have horses.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I wish I did, though.
- 11:04Speaker 3: No, and the funny thing, like, seriously, though, like, when,
- 11:06Speaker 3: because being from Georgia originally, and we moved here, and
- 11:09Speaker 3: I lived here my entire life, basically. But, yeah, my cousins,
- 11:13Speaker 3: my grandmother, like, so does it, like, do y'all just
- 11:14Speaker 3: ride horses down this?
- 11:16Speaker 9: No.
- 11:16Speaker 3: We do, yeah. Even though, like, it's funny, though, during
- 11:19Speaker 3: the parade, like, there were so many groups that had horses.
- 11:21Speaker 7: I'm like, what?
- 11:21Speaker 3: Where are they? Like, I don't, I mean, obviously it's
- 11:24Speaker 3: not that hard to have, you can drive five minutes
- 11:26Speaker 3: out of town and there's like land, but like, it
- 11:29Speaker 3: was just so easy to just find groups of horses
- 11:32Speaker 3: that came through in the parade. But yeah, the parade
- 11:34Speaker 3: was so awesome to see everything going through there. Like
- 11:37Speaker 3: you said, starting off with the Aggie band and then
- 11:39Speaker 3: all of the schools going through and then the different
- 11:42Speaker 3: groups and the dancers and, It was just such a
- 11:45Speaker 3: good time out there.
- 11:46Speaker 4: The Rudder and Brian High band, watching them together, that
- 11:51Speaker 4: was incredible.
- 11:52Speaker 3: They combined their band to be able to do that.
- 11:55Speaker 3: That is also how you know how hot it is. Thankfully,
- 11:59Speaker 3: and I've noticed this too when I'm doing high school football,
- 12:03Speaker 3: the bands, even if they're doing their full routines now...
- 12:06Speaker 3: They are only in their t-shirt and shorts. They do
- 12:09Speaker 3: not get in their full regalia.
- 12:11Speaker 4: That's game time as well?
- 12:12Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Oh, thank goodness. Because how do you survive that, right?
- 12:16Speaker 3: You cannot.
- 12:16Speaker 4: It's not in this heat. It's so tricky. It stays
- 12:19Speaker 4: hot and your body just can't cool down. Listen, you can, yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 4: they're impressive with or without that full regalia, as you mentioned.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I just remember there was one girl, she had the
- 12:30Speaker 3: fanny pack with the water, and she wasn't even, she had,
- 12:33Speaker 3: because I don't know how far away they started their
- 12:36Speaker 3: march for the parade, but it was a good distance,
- 12:38Speaker 3: and you can tell by the time they got to
- 12:40Speaker 3: the judges' stand, and we're just sitting there in shade
- 12:44Speaker 3: with our lemonade and bottled water, and they're just like, here,
- 12:48Speaker 3: this is us, and we're going to keep on going.
- 12:49Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 3: But, yeah, the kids were so cute. Oh, God, it
- 12:52Speaker 3: was just such a wonderful time. And so I just
- 12:55Speaker 3: wanted to give you and if you want to thank
- 12:57Speaker 3: the board and everybody.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Oh, the board, we've got an incredible group of volunteers.
- 13:01Speaker 4: My favorite thing with the volunteers and the membership is
- 13:05Speaker 4: that it is. is a bunch of new people, right?
- 13:08Speaker 4: Sometimes when we work in nonprofits, when we volunteer with
- 13:11Speaker 4: nonprofits as much as we do, you get used to
- 13:14Speaker 4: seeing the same people and you think, who's going to
- 13:15Speaker 4: continue this tradition? A whole new group of people who
- 13:19Speaker 4: are excited about doing things for our community. And again,
- 13:21Speaker 4: that is another space where it doesn't matter your background,
- 13:24Speaker 4: just be excited to help and have fun. So thank you.
- 13:27Speaker 4: And our sponsors, of course. I can't remember them all
- 13:30Speaker 4: off the top of my head.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Nothing can be done without the help. And we know this,
- 13:35Speaker 3: especially you and I know this, but like this is
- 13:37Speaker 3: such a giving community when it comes to things. And
- 13:41Speaker 3: so that is the only way that. the numerous nonprofits
- 13:45Speaker 3: that we have are able to be able to succeed
- 13:48Speaker 3: and give back, continue to give back. It is a
- 13:51Speaker 3: big circle of giving.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 7: Circle of lives.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Simba asking you, Simba, where is your donation?
- 14:01Speaker 3: We are going to take our first break here. Come
- 14:04Speaker 3: back in just a second. As I mentioned, I am
- 14:06Speaker 3: super excited because for the first time in almost a month,
- 14:12Speaker 3: I get to have a home game at the newly
- 14:16Speaker 3: redesigned A & M Consolidated Tiger Field. And so I
- 14:19Speaker 3: want to talk about kind of the things that we
- 14:22Speaker 3: have heard with that. Again, everybody knows that Jared and
- 14:24Speaker 3: I talk about the business of sports when we're here,
- 14:26Speaker 3: but I want to talk about how sports can make
- 14:28Speaker 3: a big difference in the community. We'll be back in
- 14:30Speaker 3: just a second. You are listening to Chip Howard Sports

- 16:09Speaker 3: look on Kyle's face when this song first came on. Like, what?
- 16:15Speaker 3: It's fire.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Oh, chip out, sports dog.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Taken over today by Jason and Carla and Kyle, who
- 16:23Speaker 3: is wondering why I'm playing all this grunge music from
- 16:26Speaker 3: the 90s.
- 16:26Speaker 4: No, I think, here's the thing. I raised him right.
- 16:29Speaker 4: So he likes, well, and I should give credit to
- 16:32Speaker 4: his father as well, because he's got a little bit,
- 16:33Speaker 4: you know, that old, the real country, you know, it
- 16:37Speaker 4: ain't no bro up in here.
- 16:38Speaker 3: There ain't no crap beats in this country.
- 16:42Speaker 4: In fact, we were at, where were we? We were
- 16:44Speaker 4: at a restaurant yesterday, and there was this strange version of,
- 16:47Speaker 4: who was the artist that was.
- 16:49Speaker 13: a lefty frizzle song, There Stands the Glass.
- 16:52Speaker 4: But it was almost like they, I don't know what
- 16:54Speaker 4: they did to it.
- 16:55Speaker 3: They threw a rap beat over it.
- 16:57Speaker 4: And he looked at, you would have felt like, I
- 17:00Speaker 4: could see him shaking his fist at a cloud. My
- 17:02Speaker 4: 18-year-old over here like, what are you doing to classic music?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Sports Radio, 1150 AM, The Zone, 93.7 FM. That was
- 17:10Speaker 3: Tomorrow by Silverchair. And so the reason why, yes, you
- 17:15Speaker 3: can go and look that one up, Kyle. Don't worry,
- 17:16Speaker 3: it's going on the Spotify. But again, like I mentioned
- 17:20Speaker 3: before the break, tomorrow A & M Consolidated Football, after
- 17:25Speaker 3: three weeks this season, finally gets a home game. Now,
- 17:29Speaker 3: the reason for being on the road for three weeks,
- 17:32Speaker 3: anyone that has driven either down Welch and College Station
- 17:35Speaker 3: or tried to look over from 2818 has noticed that
- 17:39Speaker 3: there is a newly redesigned stadium at Tiger Stadium. New
- 17:43Speaker 3: video board, brand new stands.
- 17:45Speaker 14: Huh.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Brand new press box that I am super excited. No,
- 17:51Speaker 3: you don't understand. You don't understand. No, I believe it.
- 17:54Speaker 3: You don't understand. And here's the thing. And this is
- 17:55Speaker 3: why I'm glad Carla's here today. And this is really
- 17:57Speaker 3: what I want to talk about and how the, again,
- 18:01Speaker 3: because we were in a lot of the meetings with
- 18:03Speaker 3: the school board when they were talking about this. The
- 18:06Speaker 3: importance of the visibility and how that makes a difference
- 18:12Speaker 3: and the community impact, the business impact of things when
- 18:16Speaker 3: people are coming out of town and they see the stadium.
- 18:19Speaker 3: And the reason why I say it that way is
- 18:20Speaker 3: because Tiger Stadium had not been touched, Kyle, you will
- 18:23Speaker 3: love this, since I was in high school.
- 18:25Speaker 9: Oh, so what?
- 18:26Speaker 3: You didn't have to say it like that.
- 18:27Speaker 8: 1960?
- 18:27Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Wow.
- 18:31Speaker 13: Wow.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Shots fired. For real.
- 18:33Speaker 3: No, it really had not been touched since 1992 was
- 18:37Speaker 3: the last time anything had been done to it. And
- 18:39Speaker 3: so they now have brand new stands. They have a
- 18:42Speaker 3: brand new video board. They have a brand new press box.
- 18:45Speaker 3: They have a brand new field house or redesigned field
- 18:48Speaker 3: house to where like all of the all football can
- 18:51Speaker 3: be over there. All baseball can be over there. And
- 18:55Speaker 3: then the other field house across the street can now
- 18:58Speaker 3: be– there's just more room in there because football's not
- 19:01Speaker 3: over there anymore. And then they redid some stuff inside
- 19:05Speaker 3: the school. So the cheer team now has their own
- 19:08Speaker 3: practice gym outside of both of the basketball gyms. which
- 19:12Speaker 3: wrestling can use also. And so one of the things that,
- 19:15Speaker 3: that you and I were talking about is during the
- 19:17Speaker 3: bond process is how so many people were like, Oh,
- 19:21Speaker 3: why do they need a new football stadium? Like, what
- 19:24Speaker 3: does my kid doesn't play football? Like what that, what
- 19:27Speaker 3: does that mean? How does that affect you? And I'm like,
- 19:30Speaker 3: But it's not just for football. The band, as we
- 19:33Speaker 3: just talked about, is out there. Soccer uses that. The
- 19:36Speaker 3: cheerleading team uses that. And what I know that you
- 19:38Speaker 3: saw also when we were out there is with that
- 19:40Speaker 3: new video board, the audio-visual team and future journalists have
- 19:46Speaker 3: an opportunity to work for like firsthand and doing the
- 19:49Speaker 3: production of a.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Game out there hopefully they can get it out of
- 19:52Speaker 4: their system and then they go on to money making
- 19:54Speaker 4: careers but it is very impressive because prior to this
- 19:58Speaker 4: renovation they we did a tour right i'm trying to
- 20:01Speaker 4: remember who we were with if it was with the
- 20:03Speaker 4: chamber or with another.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Organization it was what the school did As.
- 20:05Speaker 4: They're explaining why they're asking for this money. They talked
- 20:08Speaker 4: about those students who do have a passion for game
- 20:11Speaker 4: day production and things like that. These are really great
- 20:15Speaker 4: skills to learn. And if you can learn them, especially
- 20:17Speaker 4: early on, oh, that is just incredible. But that they
- 20:20Speaker 4: were working under the bleachers on some table that you
- 20:24Speaker 4: could put your baby babies at a yard sale and
- 20:27Speaker 4: try to get some... But this is impressive because that
- 20:31Speaker 4: production is going to excite them. And I know that
- 20:34Speaker 4: one of the things that you like to remind people about,
- 20:36Speaker 4: one of the things that the superintendent said, Tim Harkwriter
- 20:40Speaker 4: told us that, and even Brian ISC Superintendent Ginger Carabine,
- 20:45Speaker 4: they've said the reality is for a lot of these
- 20:48Speaker 4: student athletes, they have to obviously, we remember we were
- 20:50Speaker 4: student athletes in the 1900s, Kyle. You have to have
- 20:56Speaker 4: good grades, right? Like the academic standard does not change
- 20:59Speaker 4: for you still have to be in good standing. But
- 21:01Speaker 4: sometimes the motivator to get to school and do well
- 21:05Speaker 4: It's sports.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Or those extracurricular, whatever your extracurricular activity of choice is.
- 21:12Speaker 3: And I, I'm, I'm going to flub this, this percentage, but, uh,
- 21:16Speaker 3: coach Schmidt told me the other day to where I
- 21:18Speaker 3: it's over 50%. I don't know. Remember what the exact
- 21:21Speaker 3: number is, but. Over 50% of A & M Consolidated
- 21:25Speaker 3: students are in some form of extracurricular activity. And how
- 21:28Speaker 3: all so many of those tie together. Because, again, you think, well,
- 21:32Speaker 3: the band plays every halftime. But do you know who
- 21:35Speaker 3: sings before halftime? I mean, the national anthem? The choir. Oh, yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 3: And so there's so many different things that are taking
- 21:43Speaker 3: advantage of that newly redesigned. And it gives you pride, too.
- 21:48Speaker 3: And what, like, everybody, when you get a new car, like,
- 21:52Speaker 3: you wash it a little bit more. You vacuum it
- 21:54Speaker 3: a little bit more versus when it's a 30-year-old vehicle
- 21:58Speaker 3: or something like that. So those are the things that
- 22:00Speaker 3: I don't think a lot of people recognize. And I've
- 22:02Speaker 3: said this before a lot, too, is... when you go
- 22:06Speaker 3: out of town and you see the, and nobody is
- 22:08Speaker 3: saying you have to have the stadium that Allen does
- 22:12Speaker 3: that can, that, that can hold 50,000 people. And they,
- 22:15Speaker 3: they host the junior college national championship game. Nobody was
- 22:19Speaker 3: saying that you have to have that, but like when other,
- 22:22Speaker 3: and we talk about this in chamber meetings all the
- 22:24Speaker 3: time with other people's money, when these other places are
- 22:27Speaker 3: coming in and they see a stadium that looks like
- 22:32Speaker 3: it belongs to a one, a school, like, That makes
- 22:35Speaker 3: a difference in whether how long they stay or all
- 22:38Speaker 3: the other things that go along with them spending money
- 22:41Speaker 3: in our community.
- 22:42Speaker 4: You think about the Legends Event Center, and obviously that
- 22:45Speaker 4: is a money-making thing that's not part of the school district,
- 22:48Speaker 4: but how many millions they have pumped into the economy
- 22:51Speaker 4: because you have Adidas and Puma that are bringing their products.
- 22:55Speaker 4: national championship in caliber basketball tournaments here and then they
- 22:59Speaker 4: use different facilities across town and you have to have
- 23:02Speaker 4: that infrastructure to host those big sports tournaments that again
- 23:06Speaker 4: Aggie football we know is a huge driver but the
- 23:09Speaker 4: more weekends the more off months we can pack with
- 23:12Speaker 4: people in our community let them come and spend money
- 23:16Speaker 4: in our community y'all Well, and that was the.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Other thing that Coach said this last time, too, is
- 23:20Speaker 3: like they are already getting requests for playoff games. Oh, yeah. Because, again,
- 23:26Speaker 3: this is, as we talk about the golden triangle and
- 23:29Speaker 3: being the diamond in the middle of that triangle, we're
- 23:32Speaker 3: right in the middle of all of these other large places,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and we're the midpoints.
- 23:37Speaker 4: When you need the neutral side to come to Aggieland.
- 23:39Speaker 3: That neutral side here is a perfect example. And not
- 23:43Speaker 3: every 5A school is going to be looking at that
- 23:46Speaker 3: and trying to get Kyle Field. I know that's something
- 23:47Speaker 3: that some schools have tried to do. But you've got
- 23:50Speaker 3: Merrill Green now that's been redesigned. You've got now Tiger
- 23:53Speaker 3: Stadium that's been redesigned and College Station High School that's
- 23:56Speaker 3: been redesigned. So all of them have places that can
- 23:59Speaker 3: be an additional attractor To bringing people to this community.
- 24:04Speaker 4: And I can think of at Consol and at College
- 24:07Speaker 4: Station High School, the Special Olympics Games where we host another.
- 24:12Speaker 4: I have been privileged. It's been an honor to emcee,
- 24:15Speaker 4: opening ceremonies, events, things like that. That is another space
- 24:18Speaker 4: where you think about nonprofits in our community hosting events.
- 24:22Speaker 4: And just the opportunities are endless. And you... You want
- 24:26Speaker 4: that pride, right? Kyle, would you like to go? I mean,
- 24:29Speaker 4: you as someone who plays sports and you have to
- 24:31Speaker 4: go to neutral sites. Sports. Wait, wait, was that your
- 24:35Speaker 4: best Sidney? Sidney Sweeney? Take my money, Jason Cornelius. You're
- 24:41Speaker 4: wearing way too much clothes over there for that, though.
- 24:44Speaker 4: If you don't know what I'm talking about, I apologize.
- 24:48Speaker 4: But right, like you want to go, you need to
- 24:50Speaker 4: go to a neutral site when you're playing sports.
- 24:52Speaker 13: I want it to be a good one.
- 24:53Speaker 3: You want to, right? Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Where there's more than like a stoplight. You want to
- 24:58Speaker 4: go somewhere where there's stuff and not a stop.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Sign in the stadium. No, that makes a big difference.
- 25:05Speaker 3: And so as I've done multiple times, I just want
- 25:08Speaker 3: to thank the community. Thank you. Yeah, but both sides.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Because I know Brian has had some bond elections as well. Yes.
- 25:14Speaker 3: And you have to understand, like, That's why I try
- 25:18Speaker 3: to point it out from also just an economic standpoint
- 25:22Speaker 3: for the entire community. It doesn't just affect those students.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And again, whether it's the football stadium or the baseball stadium,
- 25:30Speaker 3: it doesn't just affect the students that are directly playing
- 25:32Speaker 3: those sports. It has ramifications on so many levels. Those
- 25:36Speaker 3: ripple effects go all the way up. Same way with,
- 25:39Speaker 3: and this is where I was going to go with
- 25:40Speaker 3: all this, the same way with Kyle Field. Like, you
- 25:43Speaker 3: didn't expand Kyle Field to the size that it did,
- 25:46Speaker 3: and I'm finally excited that both cities and the athletic
- 25:50Speaker 3: department are utilizing Kyle Field for more than just football.
- 25:55Speaker 4: A little banana action.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 25:57Speaker 4: A little George Strait action.
- 25:59Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 25:59Speaker 4: All of those things to get to see that space
- 26:01Speaker 4: used in a different.
- 26:02Speaker 3: The soccer matches that we've had. Oh, that's right. Oh, man.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Incredible. We get to show the world who we are,
- 26:08Speaker 4: what we do here in BCS.
- 26:10Speaker 3: In BCS. And I think that's what people don't always...
- 26:14Speaker 3: You got to look beyond just that first step of
- 26:17Speaker 3: what it's going to affect. No, it's going to affect
- 26:20Speaker 3: so many different things.
- 26:22Speaker 4: If we want to talk trash and say this generation, yada, yada, yada, yada,
- 26:26Speaker 4: let's give them the same opportunities and let's let them have...
- 26:29Speaker 4: Sports is a big thing, right? I tell my son
- 26:31Speaker 4: all the time, I love that he plays, he gets
- 26:33Speaker 4: involved with sports. And listen, he's... I don't want to
- 26:37Speaker 4: go to, like, losing games all the time. Let's be honest.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I'm very competitive. But, like, there's also that fine line of,
- 26:43Speaker 4: you guys, most of you aren't going to go to
- 26:46Speaker 4: play post, you know, in college. You're not going to
- 26:48Speaker 4: do that. You're not going to be pros. It's teaching
- 26:50Speaker 4: you to not be terrible humans.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Yes. Right?
- 26:53Speaker 4: And how much more of that do we need? You
- 26:55Speaker 4: need an outlet for it. We want to say, well,
- 26:57Speaker 4: they're only on TikTok. They're only on.
- 26:58Speaker 5: No. I.
- 27:01Speaker 4: This is... I grew up playing sports, and I loved it,
- 27:03Speaker 4: and that's where it was just... And, I mean, I know,
- 27:06Speaker 4: I had a chance at a pro career. Just kidding.
- 27:08Speaker 4: A rodeo clown doesn't count for me, I guess. But, like,
- 27:14Speaker 4: I just... We want to give these kids an opportunity
- 27:17Speaker 4: to grow and develop in whatever skill they may be,
- 27:20Speaker 4: because whether it's the band, whether it's cheer team, whether
- 27:22Speaker 4: it's choir, there's those ownership, those leadership. You show your
- 27:26Speaker 4: passion for something, you learn, you grow, and it gives...
- 27:30Speaker 4: My son is a senior, and so it gives us
- 27:34Speaker 4: an opportunity to create those memories in those spaces that
- 27:38Speaker 4: just really become very, very important.
- 27:42Speaker 3: We are also very lucky here in town, as I
- 27:45Speaker 3: give a shameless plug to the Bryan Broadcasting Group of Stations,
- 27:51Speaker 3: to have a station and a station manager in Mr.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Downs that still broadcasts high school football. And you can
- 28:01Speaker 3: hear all four local high schools. You can hear St. Joseph's.
- 28:06Speaker 8: Right.
- 28:08Speaker 3: You know what? I'm looking at Kyle because Kyle goes
- 28:10Speaker 3: to Brad's Christian. We will work on getting Brad's Christian
- 28:14Speaker 3: on one of the stations. Buffalo, Navasota. Who am I missing?
- 28:20Speaker 3: I think. There might be some more if I look at...
- 28:24Speaker 3: Here's the other shameless plug. BravesFootball.com is where you can
- 28:27Speaker 3: find all of those, and you can listen to them
- 28:29Speaker 3: every Friday or Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, depending on
- 28:32Speaker 3: the schedule. Either BravesFootball.com or AggielandRadio.com as well, and you
- 28:37Speaker 3: can catch me tomorrow on WTAW 1620 and 94.5. I'm
- 28:40Speaker 3: looking at it... Uh, we've got Brian, I can saw Navasota, CHIS,
- 28:48Speaker 3: CHS and rudder. I thought we had Buffalo and Navas.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I know Buffalo and Navasota on their local state, but
- 28:54Speaker 3: that's part of.
- 28:57Speaker 4: And listen, there are great resources, right? There are apps,
- 29:00Speaker 4: there's technology that tells you the score and things like that,
- 29:03Speaker 4: but you cannot beat, if you can't make it to
- 29:05Speaker 4: the game for whatever reason, tuning in and hearing you
- 29:09Speaker 4: and Tap Bents talk about whatever Chunky is.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Doing. Chunky Moore, he's having a great year.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Was it five touchdowns his first game?
- 29:19Speaker 3: Very first game of the season, five touchdowns. Mari Moore
- 29:22Speaker 3: last game had four touchdowns.
- 29:25Speaker 4: And is he the one who's in a totally different
- 29:27Speaker 4: position this year? Yes, he's moved.
- 29:34Speaker 3: From quarterback to wide receiver. He's one of those that
- 29:36Speaker 3: they just they just have listed as athlete because there've
- 29:39Speaker 3: been a couple of plays where he's been in, he's
- 29:41Speaker 3: been the quarterback. There's been a couple of plays wide receiver.
- 29:43Speaker 3: They'll toss to him as a running back.
- 29:44Speaker 4: So yeah, he's just blessed and highly favored.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Absolutely. Speaking of high school coming up next is the
- 29:53Speaker 3: high school report. Uh, is that, I'm trying to read his,
- 29:56Speaker 3: is that chicken oil? I think that's who it's by.
- 29:59Speaker 3: It's brought to you by Chicken Express. Chicken Express! Oh, yeah.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Chicken EXP.
- 30:05Speaker 14: I can't read.
- 30:06Speaker 4: You're good. I have horrible handwriting. Listen, just order the
- 30:08Speaker 4: corn nuggets and you're good.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Oh, that's all you need for Chicken Express.
- 30:11Speaker 4: And the sweet tea.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Oh.
- 30:13Speaker 4: And the pot with the jalapeno poppers. Is it dinner time?
- 30:16Speaker 3: High School Report is coming up next, and then Jason
- 30:18Speaker 3: and Carla and Kyle will be back after that. You're
- 30:20Speaker 3: listening to Chip Howard Sports Talk on Sports Radio 1150 AM,
- 30:22Speaker 3: The Zone, 937 FM.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Before you drive on the highways and back roads to
- 30:27Speaker 1: follow your favorite team this fall, stop by Sevchek Service Center.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Sevchek's been keeping Brazos Valley residents safe on the road
- 30:35Speaker 1: for well over 50 years. Whether it's a road safety check, tires,
- 30:39Speaker 1: oil changes, or something a little more complicated, Pat and
- 30:42Speaker 1: his staff have the experience and commitment that will give
- 30:45Speaker 1: you the security you need for a trip across town
- 30:48Speaker 1: or across the country. SEPTEC Service Center, 2200 Longmire, just
- 30:52Speaker 1: down from the post office in College Station.
- 30:56Speaker 6: This is C & J Barbecue.
- 30:58Speaker 5: Okay, so for the ad, I'm thinking fog machines, laser lights,
- 31:02Speaker 5: maybe a.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Do kids eat free?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Uh, yes.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Like, actually free? Yes, every Wednesday night.
- 31:07Speaker 2: So I can get free barbecue?
- 31:09Speaker 14: That's how kids eat free works, buddy.
- 31:12Speaker 8: Wednesday's my favorite day now!
- 31:14Speaker 4: See? No fog machine needed.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 31:17Speaker 6: Kids eat free every Wednesday night at C & J Barbecue.
- 31:19Speaker 13: Great food. Happy kids.
- 31:21Speaker 5: C & J Barbecue.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Because dinner shouldn't be another battle.
- 31:24Speaker 12: 30 minutes after the clocks hit zero at Kyle Field.
- 31:28Speaker 12: 30 minutes after the Kentucky game. Join me, Louie Bellina,
- 31:33Speaker 12: and Chris.
- 31:34Speaker 3: We call him Dusty to keep it simple.

- 31:44Speaker 12: It's the Carney's Pub call-in show right here on the Zone,
- 31:46Speaker 12: 1150 a.m.
- 31:54Speaker 4: And 93.7 FM.
- 32:26Speaker 15: Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley, and
- 32:28Speaker 15: today we are jumping out to the Polaris Fun Center
- 32:31Speaker 15: phone line to visit with the head coach of the
- 32:33Speaker 15: Allen Academy Rams football team, Mr.
- 32:36Speaker 13: Alex Simpson. Coach, thanks for joining me today.
- 32:39Speaker 7: Hey, glad to be here, and I appreciate you having
- 32:42Speaker 7: me on here, man. I'm excited. Yes, sir.
- 32:45Speaker 15: So it's been a very hot start for the Rams
- 32:49Speaker 15: in 2026. 4-0 on the season so far, so undefeated.
- 32:55Speaker 15: What have been some of the keys to victory for
- 32:57Speaker 15: your Rams so far this year?
- 33:00Speaker 7: I've got a lot of keys. I mean, we've got
- 33:01Speaker 7: a ton of guys doing a lot of really good things.
- 33:04Speaker 7: You know, I can't just call one or two guys.
- 33:06Speaker 7: You know, I think a lot of guys are contributing
- 33:07Speaker 7: what we're doing right now. I think everybody's heading in
- 33:10Speaker 7: the same direction. They're very driven. You know, we're taking
- 33:13Speaker 7: it day by day. We're not worried about, you know,
- 33:15Speaker 7: week seven, week six, whatever the case may be. And,
- 33:18Speaker 7: you know, I'm very proud of our attitude right now.
- 33:20Speaker 7: You know, we got ranked seventh the other day, and
- 33:22Speaker 7: it was just– a proud but not satisfied kind of mentality.
- 33:26Speaker 7: So I'm excited to see what we do moving forward.
- 33:28Speaker 15: So this is your second season as the head football
- 33:32Speaker 15: coach at Allen Academy after serving as an assistant for
- 33:36Speaker 15: a few years before that, since you've taken over and
- 33:40Speaker 15: been in charge of this program, what are some things
- 33:42Speaker 15: about being a head coach that, you know, maybe you
- 33:43Speaker 15: didn't see coming?
- 33:45Speaker 7: I mean, I knew like the head coach before me,
- 33:47Speaker 7: you know, he was very good about showing me the
- 33:49Speaker 7: ins and outs, you know, he, understood that I wanted
- 33:51Speaker 7: to be a head coach myself. So I got to
- 33:53Speaker 7: see a lot of it. A lot of it, it
- 33:55Speaker 7: was just checking details, even, you know, a ton of
- 33:59Speaker 7: little details throughout. And, you know, it was like, I
- 34:03Speaker 7: don't know if I would say I didn't know it
- 34:05Speaker 7: was coming, but it's definitely, you know, something that I
- 34:08Speaker 7: appreciate that him showing me. And yeah, I'm just really
- 34:11Speaker 7: trying to make sure that the details correct across the
- 34:14Speaker 7: board and just make sure that also allowing all of
- 34:16Speaker 7: our coaches and kids have a voice in what we're doing.
- 34:18Speaker 8: So.
- 34:20Speaker 15: So in six-man football, for our listeners, it's a little different.
- 34:24Speaker 15: You don't have the full five-man offensive line with ineligible receivers.
- 34:29Speaker 13: Everybody is an eligible receiver.
- 34:32Speaker 15: But what are some things about the six-man game to
- 34:34Speaker 15: you that stand out as opposed to 11-man football?
- 34:38Speaker 7: Six-man, 11-man, I mean, to me, football is football at
- 34:41Speaker 7: the end of the day. But six-man, it's fast. Everything's quick.
- 34:45Speaker 7: There's a ton more open field tackles, so sometimes there's
- 34:48Speaker 7: a lot more misses. Hopefully not for Allen Academy Rams.
- 34:51Speaker 7: Hopefully we're making those tackles. But, you know, there's a
- 34:54Speaker 7: lot of fast, it's quick, it's exciting. I mean, I
- 34:58Speaker 7: think that, you know, 11-man football is very exciting. But
- 35:00Speaker 7: I think six-man, man, there's a certain draw to it
- 35:03Speaker 7: that if you've never watched it, I feel like you
- 35:05Speaker 7: need to come out and watch a game. Especially the Rams,
- 35:07Speaker 7: I feel like they're very hot right now. And, yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 7: it's a ton of fun. And I love six-man, love
- 35:13Speaker 7: football in general. I mean, 11-man, six-man, whatever the case
- 35:15Speaker 7: may be, just excited to, you know, coach football here
- 35:19Speaker 7: at Allen Academy.
- 35:20Speaker 15: So before you took over as head coach, you were
- 35:23Speaker 15: an assistant at Allen Academy, defensive coordinator. So what are
- 35:27Speaker 15: some things that you learned from your time as an
- 35:30Speaker 15: assistant that's helped you as a head coach?
- 35:33Speaker 7: Yeah, a lot of it's, you know, just, you know,
- 35:36Speaker 7: player-coach relationship. I still want to make sure I keep
- 35:39Speaker 7: a great relationship with those kids, you know. I think,
- 35:42Speaker 7: you know, all the coaches, they talk about, you know,
- 35:43Speaker 7: my kids would run through a wall for me. My
- 35:45Speaker 7: kids would run through a wall for me, but at
- 35:47Speaker 7: the same time, the reason why is because they know
- 35:49Speaker 7: I'd run through a wall for them. I think that
- 35:52Speaker 7: is a huge thing. Being an assistant, I had a
- 35:55Speaker 7: pretty good head coach, but I also learned from him
- 35:59Speaker 7: allowing the coaches to coach. Whether it's a defense coordinator
- 36:03Speaker 7: doing his thing, special teams coordinator, O-line coach, whatever the
- 36:06Speaker 7: case may be, I want them to do their job
- 36:09Speaker 7: and do it to the best of their ability, but
- 36:11Speaker 7: also on the back end, coach them through those things
- 36:14Speaker 7: so they can continue to grow in their own thing
- 36:16Speaker 7: and they can help our kids grow and the entire
- 36:19Speaker 7: program grows from there. And another thing would be grow
- 36:22Speaker 7: the middle school program. I think we've done a pretty
- 36:24Speaker 7: good job of that so far. You know, our roster
- 36:27Speaker 7: from last year to this year has doubled. So that's exciting.
- 36:30Speaker 7: We've got a lot more kids out. But also, even
- 36:32Speaker 7: in the middle school, those kids are excited to play football.
- 36:34Speaker 7: Got a big eighth grade class coming up and they're
- 36:37Speaker 7: all excited to play football. And so, yeah, just trying
- 36:39Speaker 7: to keep the train rolling forward, man.
- 36:41Speaker 15: So you mentioned the roster size has doubled. You brought
- 36:45Speaker 15: back almost everybody from last year is a big part
- 36:48Speaker 15: of that.
- 36:49Speaker 13: Four starters on both sides of the ball, which I'm
- 36:51Speaker 13: guessing is.
- 36:52Speaker 15: Probably the same for young men with it being six
- 36:56Speaker 15: man football. But a couple of standout players, Hudson Marriott
- 37:00Speaker 15: and Sawyer Marriott, the duo of brothers there.
- 37:04Speaker 13: So how big of an impact have they had?
- 37:05Speaker 15: You know, just having that natural chemistry between them.
- 37:10Speaker 7: You know, they've been great leaders. You know, Hudson actually
- 37:13Speaker 7: just got back from injury. He came out and had
- 37:15Speaker 7: a great game for us the other day. He's a
- 37:17Speaker 7: great receiver. And Sawyer kind of transitioned to a different
- 37:20Speaker 7: role this year instead of playing quarterback. He has actually
- 37:23Speaker 7: been a running back for us. He actually, a couple
- 37:25Speaker 7: weeks ago, got hurt. He's on crutches right now. But
- 37:28Speaker 7: he's been a great leader on the back end. We
- 37:30Speaker 7: actually have a freshman quarterback right now who's leading the
- 37:32Speaker 7: Rams offense with J.P. Lucas doing a great job, you know,
- 37:37Speaker 7: running the show and doing all those things. And so, yeah.
- 37:40Speaker 7: Those two brothers have made a huge impact. Sometimes people
- 37:43Speaker 7: won't say on the stats side, but peer leadership side,
- 37:47Speaker 7: they've done a really good job of making sure our
- 37:48Speaker 7: team's moving forward.
- 37:50Speaker 15: So obviously the first four games of the season went
- 37:53Speaker 15: how you wanted them to, going 4-0, and a few
- 37:56Speaker 15: of those wins being pretty dominant. But looking at the
- 38:00Speaker 15: backstretch of the season here that we're coming up on,
- 38:04Speaker 15: what are your goals for the Rams in 2026?
- 38:08Speaker 7: I think the goal is just to take it day
- 38:10Speaker 7: by day, focus on the mission at hand and what
- 38:12Speaker 7: we're doing, and just keep having a dominant mentality. I
- 38:16Speaker 7: think we're going to go against some– we've got some
- 38:19Speaker 7: really good opponents coming up, which is great. I love
- 38:21Speaker 7: that for our kids. They get to be challenged even more.
- 38:24Speaker 7: But we just continue to stay on the mission at hand.
- 38:26Speaker 7: We've got big goals behind the scenes. I don't like
- 38:28Speaker 7: to talk about them too much, but we've got big
- 38:31Speaker 7: goals behind the scenes. We want to make sure that
- 38:32Speaker 7: we continue that going. keep doing the little things, be
- 38:36Speaker 7: great on details, and never be too good for anything.
- 38:38Speaker 7: That's pretty much our mentality around here.
- 38:41Speaker 15: All right, last question for you here. Friday night, going
- 38:44Speaker 15: up against Logos Prep, going on the road to Sugar Land.
- 38:47Speaker 15: So what do you expect to see from the Lions?
- 38:51Speaker 7: You know, they got a couple guys, you know, they
- 38:53Speaker 7: can go. They've got a couple speedsters that they got,
- 38:56Speaker 7: you know, spread the ball out really well. So we're
- 38:59Speaker 7: excited for our defense to be challenged and, you know,
- 39:02Speaker 7: step up to the challenge and you know work from
- 39:04Speaker 7: there you know it's only going to make us better
- 39:06Speaker 7: and then from our offense on their defense they do
- 39:09Speaker 7: a couple things a little bit different and so we're
- 39:12Speaker 7: excited for our offense to just just fly around and
- 39:14Speaker 7: be us and the special teams we're just going to
- 39:15Speaker 7: keep being us so i'm looking forward to our guys
- 39:18Speaker 7: get on the road again i think that's a huge
- 39:20Speaker 7: challenging thing in general and just being us on the
- 39:23Speaker 7: road that's our goal for the week.
- 39:25Speaker 15: All right coach well i appreciate your time today and
- 39:27Speaker 15: good luck this friday and throughout the rest of.
- 39:29Speaker 7: The season Yeah, thank you so much for having me.

- 40:33Speaker 3: Oops.

- 40:51Speaker 4: Join the club.
- 40:53Speaker 8: What's that.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Look for Kyle? Do I got a look on my face?
- 41:20Speaker 3: Welcome to the thunderstorm. Late nights here in Bryan College Station.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Find that special someone. Grab their hand. Tell them you
- 41:38Speaker 3: love them. Let everybody know how special they are to you. Kyle,
- 41:46Speaker 3: you will never know what it is like at 10
- 41:49Speaker 3: o'clock on the radio. When either the quiet storm or
- 41:54Speaker 3: the thunderstorm or whatever else it was called in your hometown.
- 42:01Speaker 3: And the dude with the deepest, sultriest voice. would come
- 42:05Speaker 3: on the radio.
- 42:06Speaker 4: Probably voice didn't match the face or the body, right?
- 42:09Speaker 4: Like some, like, and it's like, oh, or the love jams,
- 42:13Speaker 4: the dedication.
- 42:14Speaker 3: The love doctor.
- 42:16Speaker 4: He's just a baby. He doesn't know about this. He's
- 42:19Speaker 4: totally innocent. All he cares about is Pokemon.
- 42:21Speaker 3: But it didn't matter. Like, it's just, you just, well,
- 42:25Speaker 3: two things. You knew that it was 10 o'clock because
- 42:28Speaker 3: everything changed, which meant it was time to go. So
- 42:30Speaker 3: it didn't matter how old you were. It just meant
- 42:32Speaker 3: it was time to go to bed. But yeah, all
- 42:36Speaker 3: the music changed. But yes, Kyle is also finding out
- 42:40Speaker 3: that whenever Jared and I are filling in here, there
- 42:45Speaker 3: is some Janet Jackson that is going to be played.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Probably Pearl Jam later, if it's not already. Or no,
- 42:50Speaker 4: or was that the Silver Fish? I know it's not
- 42:52Speaker 4: the Silver Fish. Silverfish. God. That's a bug you don't want.
- 42:56Speaker 13: I don't think you want Silverfish.
- 42:58Speaker 4: It was giving Pearl Jam vibes.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Silverchair.
- 43:01Speaker 4: Silverchair.
- 43:02Speaker 3: So, no, we do a little bit of a, like, yeah, 90s. Because, again,
- 43:05Speaker 3: when you grow up in College Station, you get a
- 43:08Speaker 3: wide range of musical.
- 43:09Speaker 4: You do.
- 43:10Speaker 3: And music ingested into your life. And so, yes. So
- 43:13Speaker 3: the only mainstays is Janet Jackson, Dave Matthews Band during
- 43:18Speaker 3: the summer. Yeah. Yeah. Is silence an option? Wow. Again,
- 43:26Speaker 3: your child.
- 43:27Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 43:31Speaker 3: And then, but yeah, we believe, Jared and I believe,
- 43:36Speaker 3: that the best decade of music is from about 92
- 43:39Speaker 3: to 2002. Oh, absolutely. And then you can stretch it
- 43:43Speaker 3: back a little bit, some into the 80s, maybe kind
- 43:45Speaker 3: of forward into the 2000s. But yeah, it just went
- 43:49Speaker 3: all downhill after that. So that's exactly where we keep
- 43:52Speaker 3: our musical taste when we get to come in and
- 43:54Speaker 3: take over the show.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Well, I like your playlist. And I'm like, oh, hey,
- 43:59Speaker 4: if I happen to be flipping through, I'm like, oh, wait,
- 44:01Speaker 4: there's Janet. Oh, that must be the guys. The guys
- 44:03Speaker 4: are on. And then I'm like, where's Chip this week?
- 44:06Speaker 3: Yes, you know when Willie's not playing or any of
- 44:10Speaker 3: Chip's standard songs that, yeah, he's off somewhere, and he's
- 44:14Speaker 3: off today. And so he let me come in, and
- 44:16Speaker 3: Carla was nice enough to come and help us out.
- 44:20Speaker 17: Hi, Jared.
- 44:20Speaker 3: We know you wish you were here as well to
- 44:22Speaker 3: talk about– Sports.
- 44:24Speaker 8: Sports. Sports.
- 44:26Speaker 4: Only sports. Sports. Wait, do we need to talk about Chelsea?
- 44:31Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 44:31Speaker 14: Oh, no.
- 44:31Speaker 8: Soccer.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I was like, Chelsea.
- 44:33Speaker 4: Chelsea. Sorry, that's the only one that came to mind first.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Chelsea and Liverpool. Liverpool, yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 7: So, sorry.
- 44:40Speaker 3: Yes, Jared is a huge soccer player, which is fun.
- 44:42Speaker 3: We don't talk baseball, but we talk a lot of soccer.
- 44:45Speaker 4: And then sometimes when I come, they're like, you want
- 44:47Speaker 4: to talk F1? And I'm like, F yeah.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Speaking of, and it's funny, I just saw this. Did
- 44:53Speaker 3: you see Max Verstappen racing the hundred people on the go-kart?
- 44:58Speaker 3: And how they just like... He's got to be cheating. No.
- 45:01Speaker 3: He just knows what he's doing.
- 45:03Speaker 4: It's strategy, people. Like down to when you box box
- 45:07Speaker 4: and you decide that you need new tires and new...
- 45:11Speaker 4: It's all strategy. It's not just... You can't just go
- 45:14Speaker 4: fast because at some point you're going to run out
- 45:15Speaker 4: of gas. Your tires are going to be not effective.
- 45:18Speaker 4: And I mean, also he's a world champion for a reason, right?
- 45:21Speaker 3: Like seven times or two.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Do you mean he can't beat children in golf carts
- 45:25Speaker 4: or golf carts?
- 45:26Speaker 3: On one of them I saw like that. And it is.
- 45:28Speaker 3: You see it whether it's... Here on now Highway 6
- 45:32Speaker 3: becoming a parking lot in the mornings or in the afternoons.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Or just anywhere. When you're leaving a red light and
- 45:38Speaker 3: they talk about how... the first person will leave and
- 45:42Speaker 3: the second person doesn't either, doesn't react quick enough or
- 45:46Speaker 3: doesn't like just pulls off cautiously. And all of those guys,
- 45:51Speaker 3: they just, as soon as they see the green light,
- 45:54Speaker 3: the pedal to the floor and they're just gone. And
- 45:56Speaker 3: you could see in that video, that's what it was.
- 45:58Speaker 4: He was just like, you find a space and you
- 46:01Speaker 4: go and like that.
- 46:02Speaker 3: And everybody was there again.
- 46:05Speaker 9: He is.
- 46:05Speaker 3: And, and I know you just like, he is a
- 46:07Speaker 3: professional driver. And professional drivers know what they're doing. And
- 46:11Speaker 3: he just took advantage of everything that everybody else was
- 46:15Speaker 3: doing as they're going through there. And, like, you get
- 46:17Speaker 3: a chance to see what, like, even in my other
- 46:20Speaker 3: favorite one is the F1 driver that I can't remember
- 46:23Speaker 3: what car they were racing against, but the F1 driver
- 46:25Speaker 3: that's doing donuts while the other guy takes off. And
- 46:28Speaker 3: then the F1 driver catches, like, how fast those cars are.
- 46:32Speaker 4: So fast.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:34Speaker 4: It's incredible.
- 46:35Speaker 3: And that, ladies and gentlemen, was your F1 Minute.
- 46:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Oh, we got to take a break. Oh, yeah, sorry.
- 46:42Speaker 3: We got to take a break. I thought that was
- 46:43Speaker 3: this one, so I'm missing. I'm off on my clock here.
- 46:46Speaker 3: We'll be back in just a second. You're listening to
- 46:48Speaker 3: Chip Hart Sports Talk, Sports Radio AM, 1150 AM, The Zone, 93.7 FM.

- 48:04Speaker 18: The Houston Astros lost the second of their three-game series
- 48:07Speaker 18: with the Kansas City Royals last night. Final score, 5-2.
- 48:11Speaker 18: The Astros struggled to get hits, managing only six during
- 48:15Speaker 18: the contest. It came back to bite them in the
- 48:17Speaker 18: fourth inning, with Royals outfielder John Rave hitting a two-run blast.
- 48:22Speaker 18: The Royals would tack on three more runs in the eighth,
- 48:25Speaker 18: and the game was as good as over. The Astros
- 48:28Speaker 18: did manage to score two runs in the eighth and ninth.
- 48:31Speaker 10: Diaz hits it in the left deep. Back is Collins
- 48:34Speaker 10: looking up.
- 48:34Speaker 3: See you later.
- 48:36Speaker 18: With a loss, the Astros are tied with the Rangers record-wise,
- 48:40Speaker 18: but they still lead the division on a tiebreaker. The
- 48:43Speaker 18: Astros play the rubber game of their series tonight against
- 48:46Speaker 18: the Royals. First pitch at 615, coverage on Fox. With
- 48:50Speaker 18: your Houston Astros report, I'm Adam C.

- 49:12Speaker 5: offer free delivery at Tegla Chevrolet.
- 49:25Speaker 3: I know, I say that. 92 to 2002 is the
- 49:52Speaker 3: best time for music, and then I throw in some
- 49:54Speaker 3: Kendrick Lamar.
- 49:55Speaker 4: So my son, like I said, plays baseball, and walk-up
- 49:58Speaker 4: song's so important. And in my mind, I'm like, Hudson
- 50:02Speaker 4: Jacobus is coming up to bat because this was his
- 50:04Speaker 4: friend Hudson's walk-up song.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Okay, shout out to Hudson for getting a good walk-up song.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Chip Howard, Sports Talk Today, Sports Radio 1150 AM, The Zone, 93.7 FM,
- 50:14Speaker 3: Jason Cornelius. Carla Castillo, Kyle Stump in. We were having
- 50:18Speaker 3: a good time this afternoon. So, my co-host and now,
- 50:23Speaker 3: I guess, road producer is telling me that we need
- 50:27Speaker 3: to talk about what we have been joking about this
- 50:30Speaker 3: entire time with sports.
- 50:33Speaker 8: Sports.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Just sports.
- 50:36Speaker 3: So, Adam, I don't want to be a man in
- 50:40Speaker 3: this situation and not understand where as.
- 50:45Speaker 3: And you are the perfect person to have in here
- 50:50Speaker 3: for this as a wonderful journalist and media person who
- 50:57Speaker 3: also happens to be a woman in that. You were
- 51:00Speaker 3: telling me the other day of how that can look
- 51:03Speaker 3: and how it can be difficult for someone that is,
- 51:07Speaker 3: and again, you even said this too, and I'm not
- 51:09Speaker 3: trying to step on it, as far as like, Sydney
- 51:12Speaker 3: is a wonderful actress and does, but like, when you.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Is she wonderful or is she wonderfully beautiful and endowed? Listen,
- 51:19Speaker 4: as I told you, because if I had money, like
- 51:21Speaker 4: a lot of money, you would be my financial consultant. Listen,
- 51:24Speaker 4: if I looked that good and could just say, sports,
- 51:27Speaker 4: half naked in a locker room and make a ton
- 51:29Speaker 4: of money, you know, I'd probably think about it.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Go make some money. Yeah.
- 51:33Speaker 4: My son, I still got to pay for college. Yeah.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Kyle is so embarrassed right now.
- 51:38Speaker 3: He's like, that is not how you pay for college, mother.
- 51:43Speaker 4: The other option I'm way too old for. Oh, was
- 51:50Speaker 4: that the FCC earlier trying to get through? They might be.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Here's the thing. I honestly, I'll be honest. I didn't
- 51:55Speaker 4: hear about it until I started seeing the responses to
- 51:59Speaker 4: Sydney Sweeney. And it was, it was a wide range
- 52:02Speaker 4: of just female athletes. And like, and I mean that
- 52:06Speaker 4: in the sense of like what we think of traditional
- 52:09Speaker 4: sports and then dancers who say, I have been getting
- 52:12Speaker 4: up in the morning and dancing and, Female sports journalists,
- 52:15Speaker 4: for example, here's the thing. My take, and I don't
- 52:18Speaker 4: think anybody really cares, so if this is not what
- 52:20Speaker 4: your field producer meant, I apologize.
- 52:23Speaker 3: It's Jerry, so.
- 52:25Speaker 4: This is America, right? Capitalism. Sidney is an adult. She
- 52:29Speaker 4: can make decisions. She, I think, knows exactly what she's
- 52:32Speaker 4: doing and if you can get paid. And she's not...
- 52:37Speaker 4: Hurting me. I'm just, I'm not paying attention. Like that
- 52:39Speaker 4: is her choice. That is her option. There is a
- 52:42Speaker 4: market for that. And if people want to do that, that, that, okay.
- 52:46Speaker 4: But I also do understand, as I explained to you,
- 52:49Speaker 4: you know, it, it, it can be tricky sometimes. To
- 52:51Speaker 4: be a female just anyway, because we are pretty creatures.
- 52:55Speaker 4: And sometimes people like to tell us we are pretty. Well,
- 52:57Speaker 4: please tell me. Hopefully, you know, respectfully.
- 53:00Speaker 3: And feed you tacos?
- 53:01Speaker 8: Yes, yes.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Call me pretty and feed me tacos. That's all it is.
- 53:05Speaker 4: Beyond Hispanic Heritage Month. It can be challenging, right? And
- 53:10Speaker 4: as someone who, and I've talked about even here on
- 53:12Speaker 4: the show that I originally wanted to be a sports journalist.
- 53:16Speaker 4: I did my internships with sports departments. And this was
- 53:19Speaker 4: back in the day in the 1900s when there weren't
- 53:23Speaker 4: as many where it was still kind of a, oh, hey.
- 53:26Speaker 4: And it was frustrating to me to talk sports and
- 53:29Speaker 4: know sports and for people like even my friends and
- 53:32Speaker 4: coworkers to be like, we're talking about baseball with this
- 53:35Speaker 4: series and pitcher-catcher relationship and how that dynamic is, you know,
- 53:38Speaker 4: just the wonderful things that make sports so wonderful. And
- 53:42Speaker 4: I would see them just looking at me and they
- 53:43Speaker 4: would go, that's so hot. I'm not geared for that.
- 53:50Speaker 4: And I'm like, what do you.
- 53:51Speaker 3: See, this is one of the days that I wish
- 53:52Speaker 3: that we were streaming so that people could see Kyle's
- 53:56Speaker 3: face when his mother is admitting that people think that
- 53:58Speaker 3: his mom is hot.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Well, and.
- 54:02Speaker 4: But then, and even just as you're trying, you have
- 54:04Speaker 4: to prove yourself more. How many male... journalists, sports journalists especially,
- 54:10Speaker 4: get questioned about, well, tell me what the 1975 New
- 54:14Speaker 4: York Yankees lineup was. But the moment you say you're
- 54:17Speaker 4: a woman who enjoys sports, okay, well, who was the
- 54:20Speaker 4: kicker for the Aggies in 1962? I don't know.
- 54:24Speaker 3: No clue.
- 54:25Speaker 4: Reveille? But, like, it's just, it feels like it's that, like,
- 54:30Speaker 4: you just have to work harder and prove yourself. Like,
- 54:33Speaker 4: you can't, we can't just, we can't just have boobs
- 54:35Speaker 4: and enjoy sports.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Reveille?
- 54:39Speaker 4: Meanwhile, men can be boobs and like sports.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there are a lot of guys that have no
- 54:44Speaker 3: idea about sports and still get to talk about sports.
- 54:47Speaker 3: That's why I get to play radio all the time.
- 54:49Speaker 3: We're going to take a break. Come back after the
- 54:52Speaker 3: top of the hour and talk some football. Chip has
- 54:55Speaker 3: told me that I've got to talk some baseball.
- 54:57Speaker 4: Okay, that is Kyle. Well, Kyle's... Very well-versed in a
- 55:00Speaker 4: lot of stuff.
- 55:01Speaker 3: So, yeah, next hour we are going to get more
- 55:03Speaker 3: deep into sports. You're listening to Chip Hour Sports Talk,
- 55:05Speaker 3: Sports Radio 1150 AM, The Zone, 93.7 FM.
