- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another episode? Lucas: Absolutely. Today we're going to look at a very useful verb: 'å bli'. It can mean 'to become' or 'to stay'. Luna: Å bli. That sounds versatile. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Norwegian, we want to keep it free and ad-free. We deliberately don't run ads on these. If you want to support that choice, the link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to keep the show going. Now back to 'å bli'. Lucas: Right. So 'å bli' is the infinitive. Let's start with the present tense: 'jeg blir'. Luna: Jeg blir. Lucas: Great. 'Jeg blir' means 'I become' or 'I stay'. For example: 'Jeg blir lærer' means 'I become a teacher'. Luna: Jeg blir lærer. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's try 'bli med' — that means 'join in' or 'come along'. Literally 'become with'. Luna: Bli med. So if I say 'Bli med meg', that's 'Join me'. Lucas: Perfect. 'Bli med meg'. Let's practice that. Luna: Bli med meg. Lucas: Good. Now another common phrase: 'bli hjemme' — 'stay home'. Luna: Bli hjemme. Lucas: Yes. So 'Jeg blir hjemme i dag' means 'I stay home today'. Luna: Jeg blir hjemme i dag. Lucas: Let's also look at 'hun blir' — 'she becomes' or 'she stays'. Luna: Hun blir. Lucas: For instance: 'Hun blir lege' — 'She becomes a doctor'. Luna: Hun blir lege. Lucas: And finally, 'det blir' — 'it becomes' or 'it will be'. Luna: Det blir. Lucas: Like 'Det blir bra' — 'It will be good'. Luna: Det blir bra. Lucas: Let's put it together in a little scene. Imagine you're asking a friend to join you for a walk. Luna: Bli med på tur? Lucas: Good. And they say 'Nei takk, jeg blir hjemme'. Luna: Nei takk, jeg blir hjemme. Lucas: Perfect. So 'å bli' is a handy verb. Let's review: 'jeg blir', 'bli med', 'bli hjemme', 'hun blir', 'det blir'. Luna: Jeg blir, bli med, bli hjemme, hun blir, det blir. Lucas: Awesome. Practice these and you'll be using 'å bli' naturally in no time. Luna: Takk for i dag, Lucas. See you next time! Lucas: Ha det bra, and keep practicing with Fexingo.
