- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Thursday.
- 0:15It's the 30th of April, the very last day of the month, and I am
- 0:20so glad that you are joining me as we continue to hear about
- 0:24God's gift. He is making a list.
- 0:29He's checking it twice. He's going to find out who's
- 0:32well, who's his beloved children, who He is going to
- 0:35bless with these incredible gifts of land that He is
- 0:38delivering to them just like He promised He would all those
- 0:42generations ago. And he is coming good with his
- 0:45promise and distributing this land.
- 0:47And we're going to hear all about that for the other tribes
- 0:51today. So settle yourself in as this is
- 0:54distribution tastic as Joshua shares the news of the land that
- 1:00is being attributed to Judah. So settle yourselves in and let
- 1:05us read together Joshua chapter 15.
- 1:18The allotment for the clans of the tribe of Judah reached
- 1:21southward to the border of Edom as far as the Wilderness of Zin.
- 1:26The southern boundary began at the South Bay of the Dead Sea,
- 1:30ran South of Scorpion Pass into the Wilderness of Zin, and then
- 1:34went South of Kadeshbarnia to Hezron.
- 1:38Then it went up to Ada, where it turned toward Karka.
- 1:42From there it passed to Asmon until it finally reached the
- 1:46brook of Egypt, which had followed to the Mediterranean
- 1:48Sea. This was their southern
- 1:51boundary. The eastern boundary extended
- 1:54along the Dead Sea to the mouth of the Jordan River.
- 1:57The northern boundary began at the Bay where the Jordan River
- 2:00empties into the Dead Sea, went up from there to Beth Hogla,
- 2:04then proceeded north of Beth Aruba to the stone of Bohan.
- 2:10Bohan was Reuben's son. From that point it went through
- 2:13the valley of Acor to Debba, turning N toward Gilgal, which
- 2:18is across from the slopes of Adamam on the South side of the
- 2:21valley. From there the boundary extended
- 2:25to the springs at N Shemesh and on to N Rogul.
- 2:29The boundary then passed through the valley of Ben Hinnom along
- 2:33the southern slopes of the Jebusites, where the city of
- 2:36Jerusalem is located. Then it went West to the top of
- 2:39the mountain above the valley of Himmon and on up to the northern
- 2:43end of the valley of Raphaeum. From there the boundary extended
- 2:47from the top of the mountain to the spring at the waters of
- 2:51Neftola, and from there to the towns of Mount Efron.
- 2:55Then it turned toward Bala, that is, Kiryatjiram.
- 3:00The boundary circled West of Bala to Mount Saya, passed along
- 3:04to the town of Keselon on the northern slope of Mount Jerim,
- 3:09and West down to Beth Shemesh and on to Timnah.
- 3:13The boundary then proceeded to the slope of the north hill of
- 3:16Ekron, where it turned towards Shekaron and Mount Baila.
- 3:20It passed Jabneel and ended at the Mediterranean Sea.
- 3:25The western boundary was the shoreline of the Mediterranean
- 3:28Sea. These are the boundaries for the
- 3:30clans of the tribe of Judah. The Lord commanded Joshua to
- 3:35assign some of Judah's territory to Caleb, son of Japhane.
- 3:39So Caleb was given the town of Kiriath ABBA, that is, Hebron,
- 3:44which has been named after Anak's ancestor.
- 3:47Caleb drove out the three groups of Anakites, the descendants of
- 3:51Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmay, the sons of Anak.
- 3:56From there, he went on to fight against the people living in the
- 3:59town of Deba, formerly called Kiriath Sepha.
- 4:03Caleb said I will give my daughter AXA in marriage to the
- 4:07one who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepha.
- 4:11Othneil, the son of Caleb's brother Kenaz, was the one who
- 4:15conquered it, so AXA became Othneil's wife.
- 4:19When AXA married Othneil, she urged him to ask her father for
- 4:23a field. As she got down off her donkey,
- 4:26Caleb asked her what's the matter?
- 4:29She said Give me another gift. You have already given me land
- 4:33in the Negev, now please give me springs of water too.
- 4:38So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.

- 6:48extended West and included the towns near Ashdod with their
- 6:52surrounding villages. It also included Ashdod with its
- 6:55surrounding settlements and villages, and Gaza with its
- 6:59settlements and villages as far as the brook of Egypt and along

- 8:31But the tribe of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites who
- 8:35lived in the city of Jerusalem. So the Jebusites lived there
- 8:39among the people of Judah to this day.
- 8:52Ah, Lord, what can seem like a long list of places is actually
- 8:57this profound spiritual truth, this incredible gift that you
- 9:03give your people, this long promised land that you have now
- 9:06assigned to these tribes. But Lord, we hear that even
- 9:11though it's assigned, for some reason, these people just won't
- 9:15clear out of Jerusalem. So that even though you take us
- 9:20places, Lord, there can still be challenges, there can still be
- 9:24these uncomfortable spaces that we need to work through and
- 9:27overcome. So, Lord, I pray that you
- 9:31continue to give us your vision, your strength, your staying
- 9:36power, so that as you lead us into places promised yet still
- 9:42uncomfortable, that you can continue to inspire us to seek
- 9:48out your purpose and your Kingdom's priorities as we live
- 9:53for You. So that in this broken world of
- 9:56ours, we can still shine spaces of grace, of forgiveness, of
- 10:03mercy, the way you want us to be in this world.
- 10:10Thank you for showing us exactly what it looks like to be people
- 10:14of mercy and grace, because that's how you modelled your
- 10:18life for us, Jesus. So we just praise you and thank
- 10:22you for all that you show us all that you are and all that you've
- 10:26done for us. In your name we pray Jesus,
- 10:30Amen.
