Transcript
- 0:03All right, good morning, good evening, or good night, whenever you're listening to this podcast.
- 0:07My name is Paris, and I'm sitting with Corey, and we're going over.
- 0:12Today is May 6th, and nothing is hidden.
- 0:14The stone.
- 0:16What I hold back continues to hold me.
- 0:19Healing begins when I stop filtering the truth and allow what's buried to come into the light.
- 0:24Ripple 1, practical.
- 0:26Today I will choose honesty without reservation.
- 0:30I will not protect certain parts of my story out of fear or pride.
- 0:35Sharing openly with someone I trust allows pressure to release and clarity to take its place.
- 0:41Ripple 2, spiritual.
- 0:42When I bring everything before the Father, the Holy Spirit begins to untangle what has been bound for years.
- 0:50As I follow Christ, who invites us into the truth, hidden burdens lose their power over time.
- 0:58What once felt overwhelming gives way to peace and steady freedom.
- 1:02And, yeah, man, when I read this, you know, I looked at the first, you know, couple words, what I hold back continues to hold me.
- 1:13And the first thing that came to mind was, you know, not being honest with myself.
- 1:20how can I look in the mirror and just be like, you know,
- 1:23and tell myself, oh, things are going to get better
- 1:25when I wasn't doing nothing.
- 1:26You squint.
- 1:28I squint?
- 1:28No, like, have you ever, like, looked at a text message
- 1:34and not really wanted to read it?
- 1:36And so you kind of, like, blur your eyes a little bit
- 1:39and then you delete it before you have to read it?
- 1:43I see what you're saying.
- 1:44But what I mean was, you know,
- 1:47So, you know, and then I started doing some things, you know what I mean, to try to change my mindset.
- 1:55I would put sticky notes on a mirror in my restroom.
- 1:58So every time I'd look at the mirror, I'd say, I love God, I love myself, you know, and things to get my mind to change.
- 2:04But back to, you know, nothing hidden.
- 2:07This reminds me of John's verse, you know, in the Bible.
- 2:11John 8.32, it says, the truth should set you free.
- 2:15And when I read that, in comparing this to AA, with alcohol anonymous, honesty is the foundation of this program.
- 2:26You got to be honest with yourself.
- 2:28It's like step one.
- 2:30I got to take that 100%.
- 2:32I got to be honest with it and knowing that I'm an alcoholic.
- 2:35But sharing this with somebody else and being truthful with someone else, I found free with that.
- 2:41It's a lot of pressure that I release from that.
- 2:45And I can get into, you know, it's a lot that goes into, you know, step five.
- 2:49But I'm going to pass it over.
- 2:50What you got for me?
- 2:51So you really think, let me just tell you, because I think it's silly.
- 2:56I think, man, when I think about the rooms and these places I go hang out at today,
- 3:02you know, I hear people walk in there.
- 3:03They're like, man, you know, I just got to be honest today, you know,
- 3:06because I'm in this program.
- 3:08Yeah.
- 3:08It's wild with me because I think, you know, that, you know,
- 3:12but, you know, I can only speak for myself.
- 3:14But, man, if you were to ask me if I was like 100% honest today, I would tell you no.
- 3:21Because that'd be a lie.
- 3:22I'm not.
- 3:23I'm not so honest.
- 3:24Today.
- 3:25I'm a lot better than I used to be, absolutely.
- 3:28But see, on page 72 of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, it doesn't tell me.
- 3:35You know, it talks about honesty.
- 3:37We'll get into that.
- 3:38But it says on page 72, it says, this requires action on our part, which when completed will mean that we have admitted to God and to ourselves and to another human being.
- 3:51I don't see beings in everybody in the world.
- 3:53It says being.
- 3:54And then when I flip over to 74, it kind of pushes into that a little bit more.
- 3:59It says person or persons.
- 4:02And it says, rightly and naturally, we think well before we choose the person or persons with whom we take this intimate and confidential step.
- 4:11And, you know, we're kind of doing that.
- 4:13You know, I told you you had some things you wanted to get right out and go back through this work a little bit.
- 4:19And I just went through an inventory not too long ago.
- 4:23And I told you, hey, when you do yours, I'll do a fifth step with you as well.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28It says something about when I protect certain parts of my story out of fear and pride.
- 4:33and you know
- 4:33they remind me
- 4:34like on page
- 4:3575
- 4:36in the book book
- 4:37big book
- 4:38of Alcoholics Anonymous
- 4:39and it says
- 4:40we pocket our pride
- 4:42and go to it
- 4:43you know
- 4:43so I have to know
- 4:44that you know
- 4:45I can't
- 4:46you talk about
- 4:47being honest
- 4:47you know
- 4:48man
- 4:49first time I did
- 4:50my fourth step
- 4:51with you
- 4:51you know
- 4:52it was like
- 4:53okay I'm just gonna
- 4:54put some stuff down
- 4:56I really want
- 4:56being honest
- 4:57with myself
- 4:58yeah
- 4:58then I wasn't
- 4:59telling you
- 4:59no I wasn't
- 5:00showing everything
- 5:01that's really what held me back.
- 5:03You know, throughout this process of working these steps,
- 5:05things are coming up.
- 5:06I'm like, dang, yeah, it still bothers me.
- 5:09And until I do let it go, that's why I'm glad we are.
- 5:12I'm going another fourth and fifth step again
- 5:14to get a lot of stuff out.
- 5:16And it also says in the same paragraph on page 75,
- 5:21we can be alone in that perfect peace and at ease.
- 5:25You know, see, when I'm doing this work,
- 5:29It's crazy how the mood swings changed, you know, because I was forced into getting into this program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
- 5:36You know what I mean?
- 5:36A little story about me.
- 5:37You know, I went through some court issues and stuff like that.
- 5:41But doing it, it's like, man, I thank God that I had to go through that.
- 5:46You know, my past is reflecting on who I am today and what I'm building up to become.
- 5:53You know, it's interesting you just said that because of the last episode we just did, right?
- 5:58Yeah.
- 5:58You know, what's cool is you kind of told on yourself a little bit.
- 6:03And your mom did, too.
- 6:05Right?
- 6:05Yeah.
- 6:05Because she said, you know, you're always going, going, going, and going, going.
- 6:08Uh-huh.
- 6:09Found myself in that same place years ago.
- 6:12I could never sit still.
- 6:14I mean, if I had enough time after I got off work to make it to four meetings a day, I would.
- 6:19Did it?
- 6:19I would.
- 6:20I would not be able to sit alone.
- 6:23A perfect peace and ease.
- 6:26I'm not saying I'll go to meetings and do that stuff because I think that's important.
- 6:30But, you know, when I'm able to do that stuff right there, sit alone in perfect peace and ease,
- 6:35I can go sit on that couch and have nothing to do with my life and go just sit there.
- 6:39And I can go up there in my head.
- 6:41You know, people in the rooms really mess this stuff up.
- 6:44I'm going to tell you why.
- 6:44They'll tell you it's a dangerous place to go up in your head.
- 6:48No, it's not.
- 6:49I love it.
- 6:50I love going for rides up around in my head.
- 6:53You know, because, man, I have done this.
- 6:54I do the work, and I'm able to show that.
- 6:57I'm able to show it where I've done it, how I'm doing it, where I'm at now,
- 7:01what step I'm on.
- 7:02Man, I'm probably, you know, if you were to ask me what step I'm on today,
- 7:05I'd say, you know, I'm hanging around because I still got amends to make, right?
- 7:10So I'd say I'm on step 9, but I work 10, 11, and 12,
- 7:13because, you know, people get that confused as well.
- 7:16All right.
- 7:17Go ahead and talk for a second.
- 7:18Man, yeah, just cover it up, man, you know, what you said.
- 7:23Man, see, I hate going to meetings.
- 7:25They help me.
- 7:28But I hate going to meetings when people don't just reflect from the big book.
- 7:33You know, I'm not a big book thumper, you know what I mean?
- 7:38But I believe, you know, the spiritual experience that I had from doing this work in the book.
- 7:45And, like, I don't know when did it happen.
- 7:48But, you know, something that happened, you know, because it says right here, I'm reading on something.
- 7:55It says relief to share my burdens.
- 7:59Burdens.
- 7:59You know what I mean?
- 8:00Like, it's something that's, you know, that becomes at peace when I just, you know, speak it out to you.
- 8:08Like I told you the other day, man, what I was going through.
- 8:11You know what I'm going through.
- 8:12but things are well off now.
- 8:20They suggested in a program that I don't date for a year, right?
- 8:24But so why do you think that they say that?
- 8:27I could kind of relate that to, you know,
- 8:32I don't think it is the best thing to do in this deal
- 8:36to tell someone else how to live.
- 8:40You know, the way you've adopted this program has probably come, you know, directly in line from, you know, from my sponsor and people that we hang around, right?
- 8:54And kind of when I bring that back into this deal, it says healing begins when I stop filtering the truth and allow what's buried to come into light.
- 9:03Well, man, you know, if I'm going to look at it in that way, maybe I want the truth to come into light.
- 9:08And so we're going to kind of go for a ride on that thought.
- 9:13But on the page it says what's buried, right?
- 9:16And I talked about all this thing about this before, but some people don't listen to it and some new people do.
- 9:22On page 55 of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, it says this.
- 9:27It says, we found the great reality deep down within us.
- 9:32In fact, in the last analysis, it is only there that he may be found.
- 9:37It was so with us.
- 9:38And it's talking about God.
- 9:40So if I think about God's deep down within me, right?
- 9:43So God's deep down within me, and I got all this stuff buried down deep down within me.
- 9:48There might be something there, Paris.
- 9:50I don't know.
- 9:51But so if I got all this stuff buried within me, and God's down there too, man.
- 9:56God's everywhere.
- 9:57But I can't feel that.
- 9:58I want to be able to feel his presence.
- 10:01God's always been there, right?
- 10:02Yeah.
- 10:03I mean, not to cut you off.
- 10:05You know, I was looking at the spiritual of this part.
- 10:07You know, it says, when I bring everything before the Father, you know.
- 10:12And that's the thing about prayer.
- 10:13That's the strongest part about prayer.
- 10:15You know, baby, she's trying to grab the book.
- 10:19But that's the strong thing about prayer and meditation is when we sit there alone
- 10:24and we talk with our God as we understand Him.
- 10:27You know, and that's when we talk to Him, tell Him what's going on.
- 10:31See, I don't know how everybody has talked to God,
- 10:33But I talk to God like he just, he's my father.
- 10:37You know what I mean?
- 10:38Like I'm having a conversation with him.
- 10:40I don't have a certain speech to, you know,
- 10:43Woo-ha how I talk with him.
- 10:46You know, I just talk to him.
- 10:47And, you know, and I find peace.
- 10:49And then, you know, I don't be able to say
- 10:52what once felt overwhelming gives way of peace
- 10:56instead of freedom.
- 10:57And man, it's crazy how you find that peace today.
- 11:01Yeah, I think I've talked to you a little bit about this,
- 11:04but when I get in quiet, when I'm able to set a perfect peace and ease,
- 11:08and I'm sitting there, there's this feeling.
- 11:14And it's a feeling that it says, hey, stop.
- 11:19Like, get up, Corey.
- 11:20This is enough.
- 11:21And this other part of me that says, hey, what happens if I push further?
- 11:26I don't know if that makes sense, but I do push further.
- 11:29Sometimes I'll push further.
- 11:30I like going to extremes anyways.
- 11:33But I'll put more and more.
- 11:34More, dog.
- 11:35But, you know, it's a weird feeling.
- 11:37It's almost like the first time when I first came back into this program
- 11:41and someone gave me a book, Sermon on the Mount by Emmett Fox.
- 11:46And, you know, when I came back in the program, man,
- 11:48I was blocked by calamity, blocked by all this stuff.
- 11:52And, you know, I was prejudiced.
- 11:56I was prejudiced at God when I came back today.
- 12:01And I started opening this Emmett Fox book, and, man, it started talking about Jesus.
- 12:09And I had this thing in my heart pushing me away from it.
- 12:13And, you know, I got, you know, after a couple pages, it started aligning with my thoughts.
- 12:19And, you know, man, it was cool because, you know, that book was something that was very important.
- 12:24I'll probably go back through it again.
- 12:28But anyway, but I think about when I'm in that meditative state and something in me tells me, hey, it pushes me away a little bit.
- 12:35Well, I found when I push further a little bit, man, it's an experience I never want to miss because I like it.
- 12:44And, but, you know, I think what else you got with this?
- 12:49Oh, man, I just, I like this part.
- 12:52It's on page 44.
- 12:54I mean, the book, you know, we keep going back and forth to this book, man.
- 12:58because it says the rule is we must be hard on ourselves,
- 13:03but always be considerate of others.
- 13:07And with that, man, I see that because I am hard on myself,
- 13:11but I have so much love for my fellows.
- 13:14And that's just reference from the Bible,
- 13:19to love your neighbor as God loves you.
- 13:23You know what I mean?
- 13:24So, you know, with that,
- 13:26and that's all I have for today.
- 13:28We can finish up with the prayer if we want to.
- 13:31Father, give me courage to hold nothing back.
- 13:34Through Your Spirit, bring healing to what I have hidden
- 13:37and lead me into freedom found in the truth of Your Son.
- 13:41Amen.
- 13:41Amen.
