- 0:11SPEAKER_04: What's up everyone?
- 0:12SPEAKER_04: Welcome back to Kids in the Calling Podcast, where none of us are kids, but we all have a calling.
- 0:16SPEAKER_04: And that's definitely put a detox.
- 0:18SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Audrey L'Jo.
- 0:19SPEAKER_04: With me is Seth and Walton.
- 0:20SPEAKER_03: Hey guys.
- 0:21SPEAKER_04: Lou Gibson.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: Hey.
- 0:22SPEAKER_04: And Ramsey couldn't be here this week, so stepping in, we have Kobe.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: What's up?
- 0:27SPEAKER_04: So, um, I mean, he doesn't have a last name.
- 0:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Colby Treyhan, everyone.
- 0:33SPEAKER_04: Um, so I don't know, Colby, you've listened, right?
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: You know what's happening.
- 0:38SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you know, we start with an opening question.
- 0:40SPEAKER_04: So this week's opening question is how do you deal with stress?
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: I pray about it.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Jeep.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: That's how that's how I start.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Um, if I was perfect, I'd say that, but if I'm honest, sometimes I don't pray about it.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: Um mostly if it's very bad and pretty toxic for my mental health, I scroll reels.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: That's not a good way to deal with stress.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: Understood.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: So you should pray about it.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: That's my two seconds.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, smart.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: I I think it's a a guy thing that we just we just try not to deal with stress.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: To alpha.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: Just avoid it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: I'm a big outdoors guy, so uh I like if if I'm stressed out, I'll go play around of golf.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: I'll go hit some golf balls around.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: If not, I'll try and make a weekend out of it and go just hike or something.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, gotta get out.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: New strat, it's good right there.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: So I don't always have time to go play golf like you know when I get stressed during the day.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm not not that I can't just go whenever I want, Covey, you know.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: So I watch golf like tournaments and stuff.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: That's what I do.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, I like those answers.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: How dare you have free time.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: My answer is a girl answer, I guess.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: Um, I just like make a to-do list, but then like I'll add like little tasks on it, like so that I can check more things off and feel like I'm doing more stuff, if that makes sense.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: That it's a very girl.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: So like I'll have like a whole bunch of like really big things to have to deal with, like study for this big test you have on one day, but then I'll put like um like brush your teeth next to it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: So then like when I brush my teeth, it takes me a minute.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: I just check it off and I feel more accomplished.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Like walk to the car.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: Yes, exactly.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: Like walk to the car, go to school, just all the things.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: So yeah, it might be just two different answers.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: Um anyway, well, moving on.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: So yesterday was Sunday, and we had Brother Mark Foster who comes once a year to preach at our church.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: He came and he preached about the power of positioning.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: So, what did you guys think about that?
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Um as always, every time he comes, it was a really good message.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: And I felt it was a perfect uh message, kind of leaving the the theme of the messages we got throughout God can and then Pastor Duran last week.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: It's pretty much a perfect message for where we're at right now as a body, and I feel like a lot of us individually being able to be in the right position for what God's bringing us toward, leaving the God can season.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: It was very interesting how he talked about, you know, positioning yourself is very important.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: You know, it's not just about listening.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: He used listening a lot.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: He said, you know, you can be listening and not actually comprehending or taking in what you're hearing.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: You know, it could just be like one in in your one ear and out the other.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: And just be nothing for you to no value to you if you don't take the time to, you know, understand it and break it down.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we just we just heard so much about faith um for us for Point Church over the last like month and a half.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: And now we're hearing that it you can't just rely on faith alone.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: You have to position yourself.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: Um, if I believe fully in God, but I don't give him any space to speak into my life or be in a position for him to use me, I'm not really doing anything, and that's really important.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: Like you just said, Luke, you you have to be in the position, you have to be willing to listen.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: You can't just be attending church or going to pray in your prayer closet just because it's a habit or something you stick to.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: You have to be open and willing to listen.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: I think that um the the weeks leading up to this had have just clarified that we the church as a whole is in a great position.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Uh with we've been faith building and with with the series that we've been doing, it it's it's really built up to a a position that we're in to really rapidly grow and yeah, expand.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and especially with um so many like you guys are what a month into school now.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: I'm going to college.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: There's so much going on, so many new seasons going on.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: We can get so lost in just everyday life.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Um, we're all busy, we all have things going on.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: I feel like this message is a call.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: Like Kobe said, we're in a great position, and we need to keep it as a reminder daily that we need to be in the right position because it's so easy to lose yourself in the noise of life.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very true.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: This was the you're right, the call to action, really.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: You know, like take what you've learned and actually go do it, go use it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: You know, don't just learn about it and let it be knowledge, let it be action, you know.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Be w be wise with what you've been given.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: And I really liked um, like at the beginning of his sermon, he had brought up Ephesians 3.20, which says, Now all glory to God who is able, through his mighty power um at work within us to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: And he kind of tied this in, saying how, you know, God can do obviously way more than we could ever imagine.
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: And it doesn't matter where we are that God is able to use us.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: And he was explaining this, kind of going into the positioning aspect of the message, how like wherever you are, God can use you, but you also have to make yourself in the right position to do so.
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: And he was explaining the importance of, you know, push positioning ourselves for the blessings that God wants to, you know, do through us.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: But it's also important to remember, he said, that we can be out of position, but still have the love of the Father.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: Because if you listen to this whole message and you don't have that aspect of it, you could think it's kind of like a like, okay, so if I'm out of alignment, if I'm not in the perfect position at the perfect timing, then what I'm gonna miss everything God ever had for me.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: God's gonna abandon me.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: And he was kind of, you know, at the beginning, he's setting that preference saying, that's not how it is.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: You are supposed to be aligned, you're supposed to be in the position to be used, but also you might not be all times in your life in the perfect position, and that's okay too, because the love of the father is stronger than that, you know?
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not uh a do or die thing.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: Uh I really like that uh distinction you're bringing out that it's not just uh you're either perfectly positioned or God's just throwing you to the curb side because you're not perfectly positioned in that moment.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: It's uh God cares about you, He wants you to be perfectly positioned, but if we're honest, we're not always gonna be.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: I'd say most of the time we're not gonna be.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: And that's kind of what this message is highlighting.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, improve.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: And so uh he talked about, like you said, the importance of positioning yourself.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: And then he kind of went into how you would position yourself.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Um, because it's not enough to just talk about why it's important, you got to talk about how you can practically do that.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: And the first point that he brought up was surrender, which I think that's that's the beginning of position, because to be willing, like you said, Luke, to listen, to not just hear, but listen, it starts with surrender, it starts with humility, it starts with being willing to listen to whatever God is saying and accepting that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: And um, so yeah, it starts to just surrender, surrender your plan, surrender your time.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: Um, it starts with humility, and that's we've talked about that a lot in Proverbs.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And going back to uh kind of position and and listening and hearing clearly, uh, we're gonna nerd out a little bit.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: That's what I like to do.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Um, the so that the ridges of your ear actually change how you you hear frequency depending on where you're looking, where you're where you're standing in a room uh facing somebody, and sounds in in front of you sound a little bit more clear than sounds from behind will will get muffled because the ridges of your ear will will break up the frequencies.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: And I I think that that really harps on positioning in your your faith and your walk with God, because if you're not focused a hundred percent on where you're walking and and where your faith is at, then you're not gonna hear God and you're you're not gonna build in your faith as clearly as you would if you were walking towards him directly.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: And it you might say, Colby, um I'm sitting in a room and I'm not I'm not gonna be looking at my parents the entire time, but I can hear them when they're yelling at me when they're yelling, Hudson, come here.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Um, and that that's because the the sounds are bouncing off the walls, bouncing back towards you.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Uh and obviously you're you're not looking straight at them, but you still can't hear them as clearly.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: So you might be in the church, yeah, but you're not focused a hundred percent on your faith, where you you can still hear God and you can hear what he's calling you to do, but it's not as clear if you would just surrender to him a hundred percent and focus on him daily.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you might be you might be hearing God um speak to other people like you hear, or not speak to other people, but see him move in the church, just like you may be hearing bits and pieces of your parents' conversations, yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: But that's not the same as you going and talking and having a one-on-one conversation with your parents.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Um, the goal is not to just hear it bouncing off the walls or hear it from a third party or just kind of see it happening.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: The goal is to have an intentional one-on-one um connection, like you said, with God, and that starts with positioning.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: As Brother Foster is very much teaching us that um it starts with uh surrender and positioning.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and kind of going off of um the whole listening thing that Kobe and Luke you guys were talking about, um sorry, drawing the link.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: Brother Foster, he had said something that I liked.
- 10:04SPEAKER_04: He was saying how God still speaks today, but our hearing is the problem.
- 10:07SPEAKER_04: And you know, it's true because a lot of times we say that we're listening or we say that um we want him to speak to us and stuff, but would we hear him if he spoke to us right now?
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: Like, what if he's calling me to something right now, but I haven't set aside the time and the you know, my actual time and my what's the word?
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: Schedule time in your schedule today.
- 10:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, pretty much like the time to listen, the time to set aside and actually like strive to hear that.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: And um, that's kind of like where I find myself, you know.
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: It's just like, what could I be missing out on right now?
- 10:40SPEAKER_04: Just because I'm not, you know, aligned right or I'm not in the right position to hear.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because it's not that God's quiet.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: He'll he'll speak gently, he's not ever gonna surprise you and scare you.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: But he's not quiet.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: The issue all the time, really, if you're not or we're not hearing God, is because, like you said, we're we're not listening.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: And we may not be intentionally like we know God's speaking, so we're hiding from it.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we could just be too busy, too much noise.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Um, if you analyze the average day and really pick apart where all your time is going, you could wake up immediately, hop on your phone, um, always have your phone on while you're doing something, always filling up your free time with little bits.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: And throughout the day you realize that you had no free time.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: There was never a time where you were just quiet.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: And so you never had the opportunity to hear God in the first place.
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: And I mean, with social media, um, how easy it is to be entertained these days, that's a very prevalent problem.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: It could even be that like you are hearing and you are setting aside some time, but it may just not be enough to grow to your full potential.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Like you could be listening, but it could only be to 20% of what God has for you.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: You know, what if what if you are setting aside, I don't know, maybe let's say you got 10 minutes a day that you you read and you pray in, you know, and that's it.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: That's it, you know?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Which is there's nothing wrong with that.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Everybody grows and starts from different places, but what if you're you know, you feel you're called to go further or deeper, but you're you're fine with that 20%.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: But then your future self would come back and say, Hey dude, he's got 50, he's got a hundred percent more open for you, and it is so, so much better.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, but we're just not we don't have that perspective yet, so we we can't see it.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: But he's basically calling us through this message to take that step.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: You know, open it up to 50%, even if it's not a hundred all the way real quick.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Go from twenty to fifty, you know?
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: And like I like what you were saying earlier about um, you know, we talk a lot about social media being like a noise in our head that sometimes you have to block out for your blessing and stuff like that.
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: But um, it can be hard, like especially because I mean, like you said, school's just starting for us.
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: So it's like between studying and you know, trying to make time to actually still have a life and like everything that is going on in life, it's hard to find time to like set aside 30 minutes a day to read your Bible, even that.
- 12:59SPEAKER_04: Like it sounds so easy now, but then I really go through my day and I'm like, how am I gonna have time?
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: So it's like you have to just find what works for you.
- 13:05SPEAKER_04: Like, I have to personally do my Bible reading first before my homework because I know that if I start schoolwork or studying or whatever it is, then I won't get to my Bible until last minute where I'll fall asleep or I'll say I'll do it tomorrow.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: So it's like you have to find what works for you.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: And then we have ways that we deal with stress, like we talked with in the beginning, that kind of they it sometimes it can be social media or watching something, and it's like that trumps the time that you could have spent with God, which would solve that exact problem, you know?
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, that goes along.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Um, sorry, are you saying no?
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: No, I was saying that goes along, like you brought up reading your word and being intentional about that throughout the day.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: That was another um, it sounds obvious, but that's another way you position yourself.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, be in the word and prayer, that's that's how you position yourself.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: You can't uh be in the position for God to move in your life or bring you somewhere or uh do a healing, do a work in your life.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: Um, if you're not praying and you're not in the word daily, you're not in that position, you're getting caught up in life.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: Um, and a part of that is obedience as well.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: That was another one of his points.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: Um you have to be obedient to his calls and um be obedient that you know that he wants to spend time with you, that God wants to spend time with you, and you have to carve out areas in the noise of life that you are very intentional um speaking to God and hearing from him and reading his word.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: Um like Audrey was highlighting, you can't just tack it on at the end of your work.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, because we're human, we're gonna get tired.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: It has to be uh an intentional, you have to make it a priority.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: I think it like in this day and age, this generation, I think God is the easiest thing to put on a back burner.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Uh if you're not being obedient, like Hudson said, if you're if this isn't the first thing that you're doing with your schedule, uh then it it's it's not gonna get done.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: And it it yeah, I hate to say it, but it that's just how we are.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: That that's how we've been wired.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: We've been changed with social media, with constant distractions.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: That if we're not on this 100% focused on this, then it it's not gonna get done.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: And every single one of us listening in in this room can say we've done that multiple times.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I love God.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm definitely gonna get to it at the end of the day.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Like, me and God are cool.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: Like, uh I love God, I love praying, and then I get caught up doing whatever just in the day, yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: And it's like 10 p.m.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: at night, and I'm laying in bed scrolling on my phone, and I'm like, I didn't even say thank you, Jesus, once today.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: I'm like, wow, how did I even get here?
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it definitely has to be intentional.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: Um, I also liked when he said just kind of a quick thing, it's just he said that God's blessings require our participation, which we've been talking about, but like specifically participation, like more than just you know the positioning, like it kind of goes into that level of obedience that you were talking about.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: Like when you do finally position yourself right and you do finally, you know, hear from him and you have some guidance, some direction, like what are you gonna do with it?
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: Are you gonna just sit there and be like, Okay, I hear you, God?
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, gotta go.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: Or are you gonna be like, oh wow, like I I guess I gotta do this now?
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: And it's not always comfortable, like it's not gonna always be this super easy calling, like, go tell that person that you like her shirt.
- 16:19SPEAKER_04: Like it's not simple all the time.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: Like sometimes it's move across the country and be a missionary.
- 16:23SPEAKER_04: Like sometimes it is insane things that require a lot of you, and it comes down to that sacrifice and your participation.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because that's the big part of obedience.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: You can't just listen to God and and only take what he says when it aligns with what you already want.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: That's not obedience.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: Obedience is willing is allowing your future to be moldable based on God's desires for your life.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Um, I feel like sometimes we can say we're obedient, but really we're just kind of looking for God to affirm what we already want.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Say, say I really want a specific job that I've been playing praying for.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, all of my prayers are, God, please open this door to this job, or say you're in a relationship you know you probably shouldn't be in.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: And so you're like, God, give me peace in this relationship.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: God and you're just kind of ignoring what God's really saying because you're just trying to get confirmation bias from God.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: And uh, that's not real obedience.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: You have to, when you're listening from God, and you're right, if you're into position to hear from him, you might as well, you know, make the extra step and be obedient to what he says.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're already halfway there.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: And uh, Brother Foster, uh, during his message, he loved to talk about football.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that entire message, I think half of it was just football.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and I I think it it's going into that, it it's really easy to be like a third string quarterback.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: All you have to do is just know how to throw a football.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Um, it's really easy to be a third string Christian.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: All you all you have to do is just know how know how to read.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think you you can believe in God and you can be a third string Christian.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: But if you want to be a starting quarterback, you gotta if the coach tells you to do something, you gotta listen to it.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you get you have to learn the plays.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: You you need to learn uh your teammates, learn where they're going, learn what they're doing, when this play is going.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: And it, if the coach tells you to change something, then you change it.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: And when you get to that starting quarterback position, the coach trusts you.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: And it if you think that uh a play needs to change, then he's he's gonna let you change it most of the time.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: If you need to call an audible in the church and in your in your friend group, then he's gonna let you do that when you're the starting quarterback.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: So as long as you listen to the coach and you listen to God, uh he's he's gonna let you control the friend group a little bit.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Uh he's gonna give you dominion and power over that friend group and let you let you preach and speak life into these people so that you can help them in their walk.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: So that listening is and obedience is a is a big part in the starting quarterback position.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna pretend I know anything about football.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: But I can tie it in with what you ended with.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: Third string quarterback, level one, noop quarterback, level 100 mob boss.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, there you go.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: Thanks.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Uh tie it all in to really reflect in yourself and see if you're obedient is if God's direction or answer to your prayer or direction for your life was the complete opposite of what you had been praying for, would you consider that an answered prayer?
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: Or would you keep going until God's answer um matches yours?
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Match what you want it in the first place.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: So yeah, you have to be obedient.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: So God, I like that.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: So God can uh you can build up your report with God with the coach in a way, and so God can see this guy's got the stuff or this girl's got the stuff.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: Put in the work.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, of course.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: We're uh you're not gonna be preaching on a pulpit if you're a third string quarterback.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: Of course not.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, I haven't seen many quarterbacks preach though.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: Um was who's that guy?
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: Drew Brees.
- 20:26SPEAKER_04: Is he a quarterback?
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Tim Tebow Christian.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: I know some stuff.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: Um, another thing that I liked that he was talking about was he said positioning isn't earning God's favor.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: It's putting ourselves where we are available.
- 20:40SPEAKER_04: And we talk about availability a lot, but um I just I love talking about availability.
- 20:46SPEAKER_04: Availability because it's so it's such a good topic.
- 20:48SPEAKER_04: Like putting ourselves where we can be used by God is such a big deal.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: And and it's also important to remember that we're not competing for his favor and to be his favorite, or you know what I mean?
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: Like we're just striving for his calling on our life.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Like our main goal here is to be in the position where he can use us, not to be not to better ourselves.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: Like we're not doing it to, you know, put ourselves on this pedestal.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: It's all to be underneath him, but still in his you know, will for our lives.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: You gotta be doing the best where he calls us to, you know, where we are in his kingdom.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: And it begins with an open heart.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Like we have to, before we could do anything, we have to be open, hearted, and open-minded to, you know, what he wants to do through us.
- 21:27SPEAKER_04: And um like he can't fill a vessel that's already been, you know, full.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Like, you know what I mean?
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: Like he can't do anything through somebody who has no desire for more, no desire to make room for him.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: It um because it really hits at a problem that I've I've dealt with and we've talked about it, that it kind of goes against our nature as people.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Um, because when you think of God and you think of say he wants me to lead a new group or to speak somewhere or to be in a higher position, um I Immediately think that I have to be better.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: I have to build all these qualities before I can do all that.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: And in reality, it starts with me getting there first before I have those qualities.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: I have to be in the position to accept that, like you were just saying.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I feel like it very much goes against our nature.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: Um, and it comes down to trust and faith.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: You have to be willing to be in that position first and just be open to that and be in position, then you know, build up all these skills or qualities or whatever or this title first before you go out and do that thing.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: Um, God's just wanting you.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: And if you'll show up, then he's got the rest, he'll help you with the rest.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: You don't have to be something before you be in that position.
- 22:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think another thing that um kind of we were talking about at the beginning that I said about how even if you're not positioned all the time, God still loves you and the love of you still have the love of the Father.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: Um, he also kind of went into closing saying it's okay if you're not positioned right because God will lead you.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: Um, God is loving you and He is not constantly judging you, waiting to condemn you.
- 23:08SPEAKER_04: He's not waiting to scream at you, and you know, like whenever you mess up, because you will, because we're human, and that's okay to mess up.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: But it's also important that you remember that he is still there to love on you and to guide you.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: And he used the example of a GPS, and he was saying how um whenever you take a wrong turn, the GPS might have told you to go one way, but you you know missed the instructions or whatever.
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: It just says recalculating or redirecting, and it'll fix your little path and it'll be nice to you and it'll tell you where to go.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: Like it's kind of how God's the same way as that.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: He's not, you don't mess up or sin or make a bad choice, and he's like, No, you're done for.
- 23:44SPEAKER_04: Like he's like, uh-oh, let's go this way instead.
- 23:47SPEAKER_04: Like, let's do this instead, and he'll guide you to better places, you know?
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's not waiting to call you out at every mistake you make.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: Um, I feel like sometimes we could psych ourselves out with that.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: Like you imagine where God is, you know, how much he knows, how much I know.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: And me and my human flesh, if I was in God's position, I would definitely be calling me out.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, how is God not calling me out?
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: And so I I psych myself out when it's it's really like you said, or it's not like that at all.
- 24:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: Or God just wants the best for me.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: And yeah, He loves me, and He's not just calling me out every time I mess up.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: And what I like about this example is it's not like condemning you where you are, it's calling you back to where you should be.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Like back on a route, yeah, you know, with him that's correct and that is growing and building.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: He's not calling you back to like, oh, you remember when you were very close to me right there?
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Go, we need to come back to that point and start from there.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: He's calling you where you're at.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: He's like, Hey, let's build now, let's go now.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: You know, you know, you've gone far down this other route, but we can get back to that same spot and better.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that's a really good point.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: Because um, if you were at a certain level with God and then say you had a bad season, say you fell out of a relationship with him for a little while, God isn't sitting there waiting right where you left off, saying you have to get back here before we can pick up.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: It's like you just said, he just wants you back on the path.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: He just wants you moving forward again.
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: And he came back to meet you, and now you're walking together forward again.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: He's not waiting at the point you left.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: And that's important because if you think that he is, it could be so discouraging to you, you never get back on the path.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: You know, you're just like, oh, there's no way I can get back there, you know.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: It is hard for us to believe that.
- 25:31SPEAKER_04: Like, you know, like you said, like you think if I was God, if I knew this, like if I knew what I've done, like why in the world would I give myself more chances?
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: Like it's so easy to feel like we should be condemned.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: But you have to remember just because we feel like that's what we should, the treatment that we should be getting for our actions doesn't mean that that's the treatment we are getting.
- 25:49SPEAKER_04: God's loving.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we've got that good.
- 26:08SPEAKER_04: So yeah, um, last week we talked about James 3, 1 through 12.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: And this week we're gonna talk about the rest of James 3.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: So far, I'm really loving James.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know if actually I think I might like it better than Proverbs.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: I like it better than Proverbs because it's shorter.
- 26:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, kinda, yeah.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: We can kind of dive into Professor.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: I just it's easy to break down and like read.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I feel like um Proverbs definitely still has it has a bit of that old testament lingo.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: And James uh not that it's better that it's easier to read.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: It's pretty bullish, it's just uh it's more digestible in a way.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Straightforward.
- 26:43SPEAKER_04: But I like both.
- 26:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, I loved Proverbs too, but James is taking the cake so far.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: I'd hope that you'd like both books of the Bible.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: I hope you like all the books of the Bible.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:51SPEAKER_04: Okay, well, um, so um, we're gonna do something out of the ordinary.
- 26:56SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna start off today.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: I've decided.
- 26:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 26:58SPEAKER_04: Gas.
- 26:59SPEAKER_04: Decision.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: So um, verse 13 is obviously the first one.
- 27:03SPEAKER_04: It says, if you are wise and understand God's ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works, and the humility that comes from wisdom.
- 27:10SPEAKER_04: Um, basically, if you know the truth and the right thing to do, do it.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: Why would you not do it?
- 27:16SPEAKER_04: Be wise and listen to God's words and prove that you understand God's word by living it and doing what it says.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's the um, it's the idea again.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Um James has pretty much been saying it the whole time throughout James, throughout his book, that wisdom is proven by the way you live.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: It's not um it's not knowledge you have, it's not who knows more than anyone else.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: It's if you're wise, then it's gonna show up in the way you live.
- 27:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: And that's kind of how he opens up uh this part of the chapter, this ending part, that it's gonna be proven by how you live.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: That evidence, it's it's gonna be there to see.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: I thought about another verse um and I looked it up.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: It ended up it was from James also.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: It's later on.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: But it's if anyone No spoilers.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Just just one, just one.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: If anyone then knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: So that kind of reiterates what he's saying here, where you know, we we're exposed to these instructions, these guidelines, you know, in the word, you know, and then you know, whenever we get taught in service, just the good that we ought to do and wisdom that we get from the word, really.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: But many times just without perspective, we end up making decisions that we shouldn't, or that disregard or don't even think through in that wiz like wise mindset that we that we get.
- 28:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: I think it's kind of funny, it's kind of like once you read the Bible, you can't go back.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:47SPEAKER_04: Like once you know the truth, like you better listen.
- 28:50SPEAKER_04: So true.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Gotta keep it in mind.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: Um, let's see.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: The next did you have anything else for 13?
- 28:57SPEAKER_04: Any of you?
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Um Hudson stole on my thunder, so it's pretty plain.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: I will silence myself.
- 29:05SPEAKER_04: I just took 13, so one of y'all can take 14.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don't cover it up.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Don't well, don't cover up the truth with boasting and lying.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: And pretty self-explanatory.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Don't hide it.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: Um that's something we talked about all throughout Proverbs that if you hide that sin inside, you don't deal with it, you don't um take accountability um with others, especially with God, um, it's not just gonna go away.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: So that's a very baseline practical um right.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you can't just hide that.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: And then it it's also, you know, jealousy and ambition, those come from, you know, physical things, whether you see somebody else that has it or or however those things come up for you in your situation.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: And it's many times that we just lose the perspective.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, I've learned about this, I know what's right, what I should do, and you know, how I should deal with this, but I'm just not because I'm not thinking about it in the situation.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm too caught up in the emotion of it that I just I don't think through it.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: It it goes back to kind of our the first question we started the podcast with uh how do you deal with stress?
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: It it's the same thing, you can't you can't keep it inside.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: You have to you have to go and deal with it, get get it clear, and then you'll you'll be able to live better.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: You'll feel better once once everything's done.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: And yeah, yeah, and then and then again, it's pointing out the distinction that what's within, um, that's what's true, not what's on the outside.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: So that's why he uses the um he says selfish ambition in your heart, that's inside.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: So you trying to cover it up by boasting and lying, um, you're just faking.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: Because again, on the contrast of that, if you're living wisely, if you're if you're living this, like really living this and seeking out God and letting him letting the Spirit of God dwell in you and change you, that's gonna be evident, it's gonna be pouring out of you.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: Um so if you have selfish ambition in your heart, if you have jealousy in your heart, that's also gonna show externally.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: And there's no point in you trying to hide it by boasting and lying or however else you may do it, because it's still in your heart.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: So you're trying to hide it, it isn't doing anything for you.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I just got this off the dome.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Uh so Colby's special.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Colby's special.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: But uh going back to everything we've talked about, that this is the the textbook definition of being lukewarm.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: And that I don't know if you've read the Bible before, but God doesn't like you being lukewarm.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Um, so if if you get into heaven and you're you're standing at the gates and you you're asking him, Lord, do you know me?
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: He's gonna chew you up and spit you out because you you've been lukewarm all your life.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: So it if you're not dealing with this uh now, then it it's not gonna look pretty in the end.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say that you stole my thunder now.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, God's saying get out my coffee mug.
- 32:00unknown: What?
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, when you get into heaven, it's actually in the Bible.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: It says in Revelations that God has a giant coffee mug and you get in it and he drinks it, and if he doesn't like the taste, he spits you out.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: Don't be lukewarm, guys.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, wow, I love that illustration.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Totally biblical, by the way.
- 32:18SPEAKER_04: Um, verses 15 and 16 kind of go along with it.
- 32:22SPEAKER_04: They say for jealousy.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: The coffee mug?
- 32:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, perfectly actually.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: Um, they say for jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom.
- 32:30SPEAKER_04: Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.
- 32:32SPEAKER_04: For wherever there is jealousy and selfish and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
- 32:38SPEAKER_04: So, like we were saying, um don't live a lie because it is lukewarm.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: And you know, saying that you're doing things for the right reasons or trying to make people believe that you are, but inside you have jealousy and selfish ambitions and you know, evil desires, then um, even if the world might not see it, God does.
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: And you're gonna have to answer for that one day.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: So yeah, yeah.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Um, when I read that, I just immediately feel kind of like shocked and called out because you're telling me, James, that just because I may have jealousy in my heart that I am demonic, yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: That was pretty strong.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: But it's it's kind of highlighting how dangerous that is.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: It's never, it's never gonna be, oh, I'm just a little jealous.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm just a jealous person.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: It just happens.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: Uh it's never just that simple.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: It's it really is that important that um that jealousy, it's not of God.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: And if you have something not of God living in your heart, as a Christian, that's uh uh probably your number one problem.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: So um that that is pretty serious.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and we we talked about this in in the senior high group on Wednesday, um, with selfishness and everything.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: And it's you might think you're doing it for the right reasons.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: You you might think you're you're holy and everything that you're doing is is perfect and great, but you're doing it for yourself, and at the end of the day, you're hurting everybody else that you're you're trying to help.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Um like you might think you're doing a good thing, but at the end of the day, you're you're destroying these people's lives because you're only doing it for yourself.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: And that shows how important these two things are.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: He's also James has he's been pretty blunt and pretty obvious with what he's trying to state and tell, you know, these people in this in this letter.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: But um, but really, it feels like it's being even more straightforward here in this you know, passage about jealousy and selfishness.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: So, how much more can those be destructive and hurt others or just affect your life in such a negative way?
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: You know, I think he's highlighting that through being so blunt with what he's saying.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I really like um going back to what you just said, Kobe.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: Um that's really uh hating me, that you can um you can convince yourself sometimes that um what you're feeling is is for a justified reason.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that um it's for the good reason.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: You may have even got yourself to believe that you're doing this for the greater good, like you just said, and James is so vehemently calling that out that that type of wisdom is not from God.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: The wisdom from above, and he goes into that in verse 17, the wisdom from above, that's gonna be very evident by the fruits it produces.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: And if your wisdom isn't producing those fruits, then it's not from God, and you're out of line.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: Um, no matter how you feel about it, no matter what kind of context you try to give it, no matter who, in quotation marks, you're trying to help, that that wisdom is not of God, and you're not doing anyone any favors.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: So um, you kind of have to align your wisdom with God, and we can just go straight into 17 to see.
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: Um, but the wisdom from above is first of all pure, it is also peace-loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds, it shows no favoritism and is always sincere.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: So you can see the fruits that that will show from good wisdom.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: And if your wisdom, if what you're doing doesn't align with what you're seeing in the word of God, then that's not of God.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: And so you always gotta, you know, compare it.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: It's like the complete opposite of the two things we're we're talking about, being away from.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: And that's just from the wisdom of God and his word.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Truly.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: I like how it said, um, it's willing, well, how the the wisdom of God is pure and it is willing to yield to others.
- 36:36SPEAKER_04: I like that because it's it really highlights um that you know, you have to be willing to sacrifice your own desires and your own wants for the people around you, whether that's your best friend or that's your enemy, whether it's somebody that's horrible to you or so not so great to you, like the best person ever.
- 36:51SPEAKER_04: Like you can't be um, what's the word?
- 36:54SPEAKER_04: You can't really show favoritism when it comes to treating people with selflessness and love, especially when you're a Christian.
- 37:00SPEAKER_04: Because the whole point is to, you know, encourage others to live life how you do, or to show them Christ through you.
- 37:08SPEAKER_04: Like you're supposed to be the light, and what kind of light are you if you're not showing them love and mercy?
- 37:12SPEAKER_04: It's true.
- 37:13SPEAKER_04: Like, what do they have to look up to you for if you don't show them anything that you you preach but you don't live?
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: Write Galatians 5 and 22 and 23 on a sticky note of the fruits of the spirit and just walk around and it's anybody you interact with, even yourself, if you're not living like that, if they're not living like that, get it out.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you need to um you need to do some fruit growing if you're if you're not uh showing those qualities.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: When I was reading through the verses that we've read through already, I kinda uh and we've kind of hit on it a bit already, but um I think we can definitely sometimes we can be right factually, um, but still respond very unwisely.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: And I think that's that's kind of what James is hitting at when he's talking about that's not of God.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: Um say that, you know, someone you may not like the most, or you know, we're Christian, we don't not like anybody, you just you don't tolerate them as much.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Um say they post something that is clearly uh it's just wrong.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Um, and instead of dealing with them in private or you know, messaging them or meeting up with them in person, you bash them online about it.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: That's not of God.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: You were factually, you had the right information.
- 38:45SPEAKER_03: Um, they were factually wrong, but you did not handle that wisely at all.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: Love a good Facebook warrior.
- 38:52SPEAKER_03: Keyboard warriors are our greatest fighters.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: But yeah, so I think um using that silly keyboard warrior example, um, I think it comes down to what motivates you.
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: Are you trying to help someone?
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Are you trying to live the qualities of Jesus and show those fruits?
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: Or are you just trying to prove that you're smarter or that you know more, or that they're stupid, or you know, if you're not gonna be able to do that.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, trying to make yourself look like a know it all.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if you're doing that, then your heart's probably not in the right place and your in quotation marks wisdom is not coming from above.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:29SPEAKER_04: Because the reason that we're trying to encourage others to, you know, not do things that are insane, like a crazy post or whatever you're talking about.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:37SPEAKER_04: Is because like it's not because we want to bring their bad deeds to the light for everyone to see, it's because we want them to flourish, we want them to grow and to be the best version of themselves.
- 39:46SPEAKER_04: And I think that sometimes that can get lost with, you know, part of jealousy that we were talking about.
- 39:50SPEAKER_04: Like they might have um, I think a big thing is like if they are a popular person, because there can be people that might be really popular or really big figures for wherever you are, and you see something that they do that you you know is wrong.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: Now the the option is not to embarrass them in front of everyone that looks up to them, like even though it might be what you want because you don't like that they're popular, that's not the answer.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: The answer is to deal with it in private and go from there.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: And I I think that goes back to uh verse 14 that we talked about.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Uh don't boast and be false to the truth.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: It it it's you're posting about these people and you're you're commenting about these people because you you want everybody else to look at them instead of looking at you, because if they look at you too long, they're gonna see that you're not perfect either.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: So it it's it turn it to somebody else so that they you don't have to look at me.
- 40:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I mean that's that's just something that we have to deal with in ourselves, figure it out first before you go bring anything into the light because it's gonna turn around on you.
- 40:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and and all of those things that we're discussing is kind of coming back to the the point that James is making that we have to analyze the outcomes of our our wisdom.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: It's gonna produce something.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: If it's not producing the fruits that he's talking about in verse 17, um, no matter what else is producing, that's that's not true wisdom.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: It's gonna produce something.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: And if your actions are causing jealousy, um, strife, anger, if they're causing people to break apart, that's not wisdom.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: Um, no matter what you're telling yourself you're doing.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: Um no matter if it's like Kobe was just talking about, you're trying to put attention on other people because you're trying to hide, or if you're jealous, like Audrey was saying, and you're you're trying to get them toward you.
- 41:38SPEAKER_03: Um no matter what, if that's not coming from the right motivation, it's not coming from above.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: Um you just you just gotta be aware of that.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: That it can look like wisdom and and not be wise.
- 41:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's true.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: I have something I want to add just about jealousy and ambition specifically.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: Um it seems that that many times those two things can be birthed in emotion, yeah.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: In our emotion and how we're feeling in a moment or what we're doing, and then it grows because we logically back it.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: Like we're like, oh, look, this, this, and this confirmation bias, like we're talking about earlier.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, those things they back it, and we use that logic to prove that, oh, this emotion, it's okay.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: And that's where that emotion is jealousy and ambition, selfish ambition.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: But instead of looking toward the word where we it's already laid out in like basically in stone, you know, what we should be doing, we we choose our emotion in the moment rather than keeping perspective of oh, wait, this is law, this is law, yeah, not logic that supports what I think right now.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a very good distinction because um I don't have the location of the verse on the top of my head, but the Bible does say the heart is deceitful.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: Um, and you can be in a spot where, like you just said, Luke, you just take your emotions kind of as it comes, and I can prop myself up on a high horse.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: I can say I am praying every day, I am fasting, I am I am on fire, like I am walking with Jesus.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: And so I can take an emotion that comes up from me, and I can just kind of be like, I can take it as is, and I can be like, okay, this must be right.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I can run with that.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: And if I don't take a second and like you just said, put it up against the word of God, then now I'm taking a selfish desire or ambition or whatever from within me from my own heart, and now I'm pushing that out and it's causing harm.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: So yeah, no matter where you are in your walk, um, you always have to push it up and push it against the word of God and um make sure it aligns.
- 43:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: Because if you just take emotions that you feel in a moment and you you take those and run with them, you're gonna tear yourself up.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: And it's not even like we do it on purpose.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Like if you think about it, do we do we do that on purpose?
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: Do we just Run with ambition and like selfish ambition and jealousy on purpose.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: No, it's human.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: It's just like during the day, you like you see somebody with a nice car and you're like, Man, you just like you get, I guess you feel jealousy.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: It's not like stuff that we do on purpose or ways that we on purpose like go against the word of God.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: Or it's just through our everyday, you know.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: We just gotta keep that in mind that you know, keep those things out of your heart.
- 44:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:24SPEAKER_04: And um going off of verse 17, verse 18 kind of like talks about verse 17.
- 44:29SPEAKER_04: It says, and those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.
- 44:34SPEAKER_04: And those people that it's talking about are you know the people in verse 17, the people who are let's see, verse 17 wielding to others and pure and peace-loving, gentle, all of those things.
- 44:46SPEAKER_04: Those are the people who will reap a harvest of righteousness and plant seeds of peace, the people who practice those things.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: And, you know, sacrificing our own desires can result in receiving the Lord's blessings.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: And that's worth, at least it should be to you, worth more than anything that selfish ambitions could ever bring you.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: Like, what good does popularity do if you brought somebody down to do it?
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: Like, what did that do for you in the kingdom?
- 45:09SPEAKER_04: How far did that get you spiritually?
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Nowhere.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: It actually pushed you back.
- 45:13SPEAKER_04: Like it does nothing for you.
- 45:14SPEAKER_04: But if you sacrifice your own desires and you do things the right way, then you'll receive the Lord's blessings for that.
- 45:19SPEAKER_04: And that's way more important.
- 45:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, definitely.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: He's he's definitely closing out the chapter by showing you that um what you plant, it it's gonna produce something.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: Your wisdom, how you go throughout your day, how you apply wisdom from above, as he puts it, that's that's gonna plant something, yeah, whether you're aware of it or not.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: And like you were just saying, the people that are doing these things, they're gonna reap a harvest.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Um say someone came up to you with jealousy or anger in a moment, and instead of responding with anger bat, you respond it with grace and with gentleness.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: Um, that can produce a harvest of you seeing them get a breakthrough later on, and you don't even know what you did in that moment in their lives.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: Just things like that.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: If you would have responded with anger in that moment, you could have torn them down.
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Um, so no matter what, you're planting something based on how you respond through situations and navigate through life and yeah and apply wisdom.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: And if you're, you know, if you're if you have the spirit in you, if you are living wisely, as James is saying, wisely to the point that you know your actions are portraying that just because it's inside you, then you're gonna see those harvest.
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: Um it's just gonna happen.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: Sometimes you may not even know it.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: You're you're just living, you know, how God wants you to live.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: And all of a sudden you're looking at this beautiful field of wheat and you're like, bro, what?
- 46:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: I like what you said about um your responses to things.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: Because it kind of made me think about like whenever I get an argument with my mom or something, and like, you know, we're going at it, and we're both like yelling or mad or whatever.
- 46:49SPEAKER_04: But then, like, if you actually just think about it and you change your tone and you're and you say, you know what?
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: You're right.
- 46:55SPEAKER_04: I'm being stupid.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: Like, what am I talking about?
- 46:57SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, mom.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: Like if you just approach it differently, if you approach the situation with, you know, gentleness, then you'll realize her her attitude will also completely change.
- 47:06SPEAKER_04: She's not gonna keep yelling at you after you're saying you're sorry and I love you, and like saying I was wrong, I'm sorry.
- 47:11SPEAKER_04: Like she's not going to keep yelling.
- 47:13SPEAKER_04: She's going to say, Oh, you know, me too.
- 47:15SPEAKER_04: And you're gonna actually resolve something, you're gonna fix something.
- 47:18SPEAKER_04: Like it's the same thing with anything, relationships or friendships, whatever.
- 47:22SPEAKER_04: Like the way that you respond to something completely sets the tone for how the rest of that argument or situation goes.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: I think the the first thing I thought of when I read verse 18 was uh, I'd rather be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Uh it's it's like, are you taking the the things you've learned and it you to kind of grow life and uh speak life into things uh rather than try and tear people down uh when you don't know you don't even know what you're talking about.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Uh I think a a big question was like, are you using your knowledge to win arguments or are you using it to bring wisdom to other people?
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I I I think we've all had a moment where we were arguing definitely just to be right.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: I've I've felt that 100%.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: All of us do it, and um that's unfortunately the thing the Bible's calling out, and we have to be aware of that.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: And if you're arguing with someone just to win the argument, you you're out of line somewhere.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: I find I think that the biggest thing that we can just all really learn from here and throughout the entire thing is we lose ground with God when we lose focus.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: You know, that's that's the big thing.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Our focus is kind of key.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: And even in the message that we were talking about earlier, how you position your listening.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, it's all about focusing and keying in on the right thing at the right time.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because you can be in the right place and not be focused.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: Um you can go to church every Sunday and Wednesday and be in the same spot after 10 years because you were never focused.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, it's it definitely what you just said, 100%.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: It has to be intentional.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: So um today we've talked about a lot, and to sum it up, I think it really it comes down to to two things.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: Um where we are positioned and um or where are we positioned, ask yourself that, and what kind of wisdom are we following?
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Um we have to intentionally position ourselves to hear God and then be willing to obey when he speaks, like we talked about earlier.
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: You can't just make the step and be like, okay, I'll listen, but only if it, you know, feeds what I want.
- 49:34SPEAKER_03: Um so even when we don't have every detail, um, and as we make decisions, we cannot judge wisdom simply by whether something sounds right or makes sense in the moment.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: Um, you have to look at its source and the fruit it produces.
- 49:47SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I like what you said, Luke, that when you get unfocused, you lose ground with God.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: And a part of focus is being aware of what your actions and wisdom is producing, because it's always gonna produce something.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: And if you're aware, you you have to be you have to be aware of that.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: There's no better word.
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: You have to know that um your actions are gonna produce something.
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: And so if you're taking this seriously, if you're positioned right, you also have to take seriously what's going on.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: Um, you have to be real with yourself.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: You can't just kind of wishy-washy your way through this.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: So um, so if I have to give a a challenge this week um for listeners, I just say take an honest look at your life.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: Um it literally feels like I recycle that phrase every single week, but uh it's the best phrase I can use.
- 50:35SPEAKER_03: There's there's no other way around it.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Um take a look.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: Um where are you positioned?
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: What voice has your attention?
- 50:42SPEAKER_03: Um when your day is finishing, what's the thing you're looking forward to most?
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: Um if you have 10 answers and all 10 of them are something not God related, then you're probably got um clouded with a bunch of noise because I've been there, yeah.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: Um but if you wake up and your first and your first desire, the first thing you think of is all these other things, and not one of them is praying or you know, even saying, Good morning, Lord.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: Um there's probably too much noise in your life in the little moments.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: And like we said, God's not hating you for it, He doesn't have a hate club for you.
- 51:23SPEAKER_03: Um, you're not evil, you just may need to reposition a little bit.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: So so analyze where your time is, where you're positioned, and Ben and James just analyze your wisdom.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Where's it coming from?
- 51:35SPEAKER_03: What is it producing?
- 51:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, it sounds simple, that's because James says it bluntly.
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: That um just analyze it, it's gonna produce something.
- 51:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:44SPEAKER_04: Well, um, you summed that up very good, Hudson.
- 51:48SPEAKER_04: Um, and thank you, Colby, for stepping up for Ramsey this week.
- 51:53SPEAKER_04: And thank you, listeners, for listening.
- 51:55SPEAKER_04: And make sure that you tune in next Thursday for the next episode.
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: Bye.
- 52:00SPEAKER_04: Bye guys.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: Bye.
