Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining me now is Gail Downey, our UK and Europe
- 0:02Speaker 1: correspondent and Gaale. Just a horrible story coming out of Turkey.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Absolutely sixty six people are known to have died in
- 0:11Speaker 2: a fire and it's at a hotel at a ski resort,
- 0:14Speaker 2: very popular ski resort in Turkey. Two people also died
- 0:18Speaker 2: trying to jump to safety. The fire broke out in
- 0:21Speaker 2: the early hours of the morning and took twelve hours
- 0:25Speaker 2: to put out. The fire service was about an hour
- 0:28Speaker 2: away because of the distance from the resort to the
- 0:31Speaker 2: nearest town, and although it's only twenty five kilometers, of course,
- 0:35Speaker 2: the freezing weather conditions. Being a ski resort hampered in
- 0:40Speaker 2: terms of the time it takes the crews to get there.
- 0:44Speaker 2: The fire was believed to have been started in the
- 0:46Speaker 2: restaurant on the fourth floor spread to the rest of
- 0:48Speaker 2: the building. Footage being circulated in Turkey shows people using
- 0:53Speaker 2: linen possibly bedsheets I guess, hanging from windows to escape
- 0:58Speaker 2: from the burning building. Four people have been arrested, including
- 1:02Speaker 2: the owner of the hotel, Gail.
- 1:05Speaker 1: The UK Prime Minister has announced a public inquiry into
- 1:09Speaker 1: the horrible killing of three young girls at a dance class.
- 1:13Speaker 1: What's going on? Here.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yes, he actually made the announcement this morning live on
- 1:20Speaker 2: TV and radio. And what he said is the concern
- 1:25Speaker 2: that has arisen from Alex Ruder Cabana, who's eighteen years old,
- 1:30Speaker 2: who pleaded guilty yesterday to murdering the three girls and
- 1:34Speaker 2: the attempted murder of ten others plus two terror related charges. Now,
- 1:39Speaker 2: the terror related charges couldn't be revealed before the case
- 1:44Speaker 2: because that might have harmed in terms of you know,
- 1:49Speaker 2: whether someone was incident or guilty. But because he pleaded
- 1:52Speaker 2: guilty at the very last minute at the case, these
- 1:56Speaker 2: have now started to come out. He also admitted producing
- 1:59Speaker 2: the biological toxin ricin and a charge under the Terrorism
- 2:04Speaker 2: Act related to possessing an Al Qaeda training manual and Sirkir.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Starmer's concern is that he says the UK faces a
- 2:13Speaker 2: new threat and that terrorism has changed. He said the
- 2:17Speaker 2: threat now comes from extreme violence carried out by loner's
- 2:21Speaker 2: misfits and young men in their bedrooms accessing dangerous material online.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And the Home Secretary today told MP's in the Housard
- 2:30Speaker 2: Commonsy At Cooper said it was a disgrace that Axel
- 2:34Speaker 2: Ruder Cabana had also been able to buy a knife
- 2:37Speaker 2: from Amazon when he was just seventeen years old, even
- 2:40Speaker 2: though he had a previous conviction for violence.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Gail, thank you so much for the updates. Appreciate that
- 2:45Speaker 1: that was UK and Europe correspondent to Gail Downey for
- 2:49Speaker 1: more from earlier edition with Ryan Bridge. Listen live to
- 2:52Speaker 1: news Talks. It'd be from five am weekdays, or follow
- 2:55Speaker 1: the podcast on iHeartRadio.
