- 1:00Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. Let's just go ahead and wrap up
- 1:03this series where we're really kind of caultering. The arguments made by the so
- 1:10called Torah observant Christians and Messianic Jews and such as that they make a big
- 1:18deal about how to spell the name Jesus really strange, actually, but you
- 1:26know you are communicating with one of them if they insist on spelling Jesus Yeshua.
- 1:34I don't know why they do this, Okay, all right, It
- 1:38is absolutely true that in Hebrew the name Jesus is either y e Shua that's
- 1:49of course anglicized from Hebrew, or why apostrophe s Hua Yeshua, that's actually
- 1:59josh It's kind of odd that they insist that we call Jesus Joshua. After
- 2:08all, if the name of Jesus is so unique that we need to call
- 2:15him specifically Yeshua, how how do well? I mean? It's it's it
- 2:23sort of undermines their own argument, because, of course there's Joshua and the
- 2:27Bible. You know, Joshua fit the Battle of Jericho and the walls came
- 2:31tumbling down. Jesus is not the only figure in the Bible to have the
- 2:38name Jesus. In fact, if you actually have a complete Bible, a
- 2:42Catholic Bible, is it seracra wisdom, you will see that the author's name
- 2:46was also Jesus. It doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things how
- 2:58you spell his name. It matters in what matters is your belief that he
- 3:07is God. But it's become a real sticking point. I mean, these,
- 3:14you know, as Saint Paul would have called a modern judaizers say that
- 3:17Jesus's name must be spelled in this essentially anglici Anglicized version of Hebrew, that
- 3:29that's the only name by which he can be called, and anyone who calls
- 3:32Jesus Jesus is somehow a Satan worshiper or something. I don't get it,
- 3:39frankly, the argument is absolutely ridiculous on his face. You know, first
- 3:45of all, when we think of Jesus, we have to remember he didn't
- 3:50speak I mean, I'm sure he knew Hebrew, but in his normal everyday
- 3:54conversations with his family and the people in his community and with his disciples,
- 4:00he spoke Aramaic. So he wouldn't have referred to himself necessarily as Yeshua.
- 4:10The disciples themselves spoke I'm sure some Hebrew, okay, that was the formal
- 4:15language of the temple, but Aramaic was a commonly spoken language. Several disciples
- 4:24spoke Greek as well. The name of Jesus is rather different in Greek.
- 4:33By the time when Saint Jerome translated the Bible from Greek and Hebrew into Latin,
- 4:41somewhere around three hundred, he changed the spelling to be Latin spelling.
- 4:48It's still the same person, I mean, but more than that, Jesus
- 4:56said the Bible is also called Emmanuel, the Messiah, the Lamb of God,
- 5:02the Prince of Peace. He more often referred to himself as the son
- 5:06of Man than he did by his name. He's referred to as the King
- 5:12of the Jews, Lord. I mean, there, how many titles can
- 5:15we actually give Jesus and how many are listed in the Bible? A dozen,
- 5:21probably more. But then you also have to remember also the same name
- 5:29is spelled different in different languages. As I mentioned yesterday, my first name
- 5:32is William. That's my English first name, right named after I don't even
- 5:40know how many generations of Williams there have been in my family, going back
- 5:44to some of the first kings of England, who are actually my ancestors.
- 5:47We've had Williams in my family and in the past, you know, three
- 5:50or four generations there have been William Owens, and William judsons and William you
- 5:57know, there are lots of Williams, and really two or three sides of
- 6:00my family, we got a ton of Williams. Right well, that's how
- 6:02we spell it. Because we write and speak English. The same name in
- 6:08French as Guillaum its spelled g u i l l a u m e as
- 6:13opposed to w I l l i a M. Now, if I am,
- 6:17my identity doesn't change just because someone writes my name in French as opposed
- 6:24to in English. If I'm I mean part of my family's French. If
- 6:28someone calls me Guillaum, I'm still who I am, even though they pronounced
- 6:33my name different or they spelled it a little different. The same thing is
- 6:38true of Jesus. If you want to call him Yeshua, that's fine.
- 6:43He's still the same god as the one we call Jesus. Think about this
- 6:49all right. I like to wear hats, I love fedoras, I mean
- 6:53I'm just I'm a hat fanatic, Okay. I have a fedora for every
- 6:57season, and one for rain, and one for a straw, and for
- 7:00hot sunny days, a waterproof one that i'm you know where, when I'm
- 7:04out in the field bird hunting or something. I like hats. And in
- 7:11English a hat, it's a hat. In French it's a chappo. It's
- 7:15still the same thing you put on your head. It's just a different language.
- 7:20And you know, there's really nothing singularly holy about the Hebrew language.
- 7:27The Hebrew language predated Abraham at least its origins did what supposedly makes the language
- 7:38of Hebrew particularly holy. It was the people, the descendants of Abraham,
- 7:45who were God's chosen people, not the language they spoke. And as I
- 7:49said, they didn't always speak Hebrew. By the time of Jesus, they
- 7:54were speaking more Aramaic. And the Hebrew was really just a formal language used
- 8:00in the Temple. It was not the language written or spoken by most early
- 8:05Christians or the early Church. And again, if we want to like take
- 8:11the Bible as our main authority, you know, the process of belief is
- 8:16the Bible alone as the sole authority, Well, the Apostles were identified at
- 8:20Pentecost, but the gift of tongues, which was the ability to speak in
- 8:24any and all language, so they were by the power of the Holy Spirit,
- 8:31the apostles could speak to every single person in this world in his or
- 8:35her own language. So would the apostles be speaking of Yeshua Yeshua, I
- 8:43guess you're gonna I mean, if it sounds like Joshua, I guess it's
- 8:45Yeshua to a person from Crete, you know, to a person from Turkey.
- 8:50Now they would have said, however, that same name was pronounced and
- 8:56spelled in their language. Greek is actually extremely different. But the Apostles wrote
- 9:05most of what they wrote in Greek. But like I said, I mean,
- 9:09it's really they make such a big issue saying you have to call Jesus
- 9:15by this name because this is the most important name. Of course, it's
- 9:18true, it's at that name every nicheshall bow, right. But there's more
- 9:24than one Joshua in the Bible. And you can also translate the name of
- 9:30Jesus as Isaiah. The names Isaiah and Joshua are so close and spelling and
- 9:37pronunciation in Hebrew that you don't know, really which is which it could literally
- 9:43go either way. So Jesus's name may have been Joshua or Isaiah or something
- 9:52kind of in the middle. It's I don't know. It's one of those
- 9:58just like mind boggling our arguments that's so misguided it's almost hard to unravel.
- 10:07And it's so new. No one argued fifty or one hundred years ago that
- 10:13you had to call Jesus Jeshua. And that's because people actually had an understanding
- 10:20of history, okay, at least a little bit of history, a little
- 10:24bit of formal education in history, which no, I'm sorry, our modern
- 10:28schools do not do they do. They are indoctrination centers, not education centers.
- 10:37You know. Like I said, the New Testament was originally written in
- 10:39Greek, not Hebrew, and that was then translated into Latin, which was
- 10:43the universal language of the time. But Jesus's name in Greek. As I
- 10:50always say, I can't pronounce Greek, I'm not Greek, and I don't
- 10:54speak Greek, but in and I can't read the Greek alphabet. So I
- 10:58had to find what the Greek name for Jesus is in English letters, and
- 11:07it's I E with an accent line kind of thing. What do you call
- 11:11that a macron over the E s O U s so eos eusus eosus.
- 11:24What does it sound like? Sort of like Spanish Jesus Esus. Well,
- 11:28okay, you can kind of see how this is starting to evolve as we
- 11:33go through different languages. In Latin, it's I E s vs because they
- 11:39did not have a U. And in Latin in ancient Rome, there was
- 11:43no U, the V operators of use. So that's usus very similar,
- 11:50right, You've just taken the O out and replace the U of a V,
- 11:54but it's still pronounced Esus. Essentially is in Middle English, which is
- 12:03the origins of the language that most of us speak here in America, the
- 12:07name of God was spelled Yesu or Jesu j e s u, not Joshua,
- 12:18but Jesu. And if you listen to the Old English hymns, they're
- 12:24still very popular in the Anglican churches, such like Jesu Jesu King of Men's
- 12:28Storing or so I cannot remember the name of that song all of a sudden,
- 12:31even though it's like in my head it's j E s U. The
- 12:37modern English spelling, which is more similar to the Greek is Jesus. As
- 12:43I said, in Greek it was Jesus. In English it's Jesus. Basically.
- 12:52While it's difficult to refute something that has no basis, in fact,
- 12:56some even go a little bit further out into the wacko fringe. There are
- 13:03many tour observant Christians that who make the claim that anyone who calls the Christ
- 13:13another name for Jesus, right, the Christ Jesus is not actually worshiping Jesus,
- 13:20but the pagan god Jews Zeus, not Jews obviously Zeus. There is
- 13:26no historical or factual basis for this claim. No one claimed this for like
- 13:31two thousand years up until recently. Basically, I can only assume that really
- 13:37ignorant people heard the Spanish pronunciation of Jesus, which sounds like Jeseus, which
- 13:43again is rather similar to the Greek aus Esus aus Aeseus, right, or
- 13:52the Latin Aesus. Well, in Spanish it's Jeseus Jeseus. Basically, you
- 14:01have to think people who are completely ignorant heard that and assume they were saying
- 14:07something about the Greek god Zeus, which is freaking stupid. But they believe
- 14:13it, and they have made you could do okay, just you know,
- 14:20spend two seconds on Google and you will read a thousand bigoted articles written by
- 14:26otherwise very well meaning, devout people who insist that Jesus's name must be pronounced
- 14:35Yeshua. I guess, with no foundation in history whatsoever, basically based on
- 14:43nothing more than a bigoted anti Catholic bias. In other words, they're saying,
- 14:48if this is what Catholics believe, it must be wrong. Frankly,
- 14:54although there have been many heresies over the centuries, no one was foolish enough
- 14:58to claim that must call Jesus by his Hebrew name until our modern era of
- 15:05both extreme ignorance and the Internet. In our era, one only has to
- 15:11put out some completely moronic argument like Jesus has to be called Jeshua, or
- 15:20you're worshiping Zeus, and a million people are going to read it and believe
- 15:24it, and they're going to pass it on to their friends, and before
- 15:26you know it, there's a new heresy. But the only thing that puts
- 15:33an into heresy is a higher authority, and people who reject the authority of
- 15:37the Catholic Church make themselves their own authorities or their ministers who promote themselves as
- 15:46the ultimate authority based on nothing more than their own opinion, which they believe
- 15:50to be guided by the Holy Spirit, which is impossible because there's only one
- 15:56truth, and you can't have two churches, one of them not be much
- 16:00less fifty thousand Protestant denominations. And essentially, they make themselves their own gods
- 16:07because they say they are the highest authority. Their opinion is the truth,
- 16:11regardless what, well, what the Bible says in some instances, say like
- 16:17on divorce, or what the Catholic Church, founded by Jesus and guaranteed against
- 16:22all error, says is on the matter. Well again, so just like
- 16:25in divorce, they make themselves their own gods, saying what is right and
- 16:30wrong. And one of them may say, you got to call Jesus Joshua,
- 16:33and another one may say, oh, you know, even though the
- 16:37Bible specifically says homosexuality is sinful and that homosexualities and sodomites in particularly will not
- 16:44go to heaven, we're gonna make you know, gay marriage just fine now,
- 16:48And we'll have lesbian ministers in an Anglican church that are gonna bless those
- 16:55unions. That's purely satanic. But if you don't have the authority of the
- 17:00Catholic Church that can say what's right and wrong, how can anyone counter it?
- 17:07Well, what it comes down to, especially in this Internet age,
- 17:15is what it's an old statement. Actually, this statement may go back as
- 17:19far as ancient Greece in various forms, but as we know it now,
- 17:26Jonathan Swift probably coined saying a lie can travel halfway around the world before the
- 17:33truth puts on its shoes. I believe could have been Mark Twain said a
- 17:38lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth puts its pants on.
- 17:44Anyway you look at it, that was in an era before even modern media.
- 17:51Just think about how quickly a lie can travel around the world and the
- 17:53age of the Internet, and think about how much worse that's going to be.
- 17:59As artificial intelligence transhumanism becomes an issue. They're already saying that, you
- 18:07know, AI, this transhumanism stuff, they're going to set it up as
- 18:14a the highest authority on earth. It will be the super intelligence that supposedly
- 18:22knows more than the Catholic Church and all the words of the Bible and God
- 18:25himself. So I guess here, We're gonna be sitting here in five to
- 18:30ten years, and I'm gonna have to say, you know what, even
- 18:33though the superpowered computer that everyone is now worshiping as God says that divorce is
- 18:41okay and homosexuality is just fine and natural actually, and that you know,
- 18:47ten years old children should have their generals cut off because they were born into
- 18:51the wrong body because apparently God makes mistakes, which is of course logically impossible,
- 18:56right as wrong and wrong is right. And you know, right now
- 19:02I'm arguing against set observant Christians. In a few years, I guess I'm
- 19:06going to be arguing against the trans humanists. Let's hope to God that Tower
- 19:11of Babel gets knocked down before it gets to that point. So y'all have
- 19:18a wonderful day. Remember Jesus's Lord. Call Jesus Jesus if you really want
- 19:25to call him Joshua. I don't think he really cares very much. Honestly,
- 19:32I think Jesus is probably a little smarter than most people, and being
- 19:37God, having all knowledge and knowing the intent of a person's heart, I
- 19:41don't think he cares a whole lot. You could call him Lamb of God.
- 19:48You'd call him many titles, the Messiah of the Christ, etc.
- 19:52Etc. But if you really want to call him Joshua, then you know,
- 19:56hey, that's between you and God. That's not my problem. So
- 20:02uh, in the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope and don't
- 20:07worry and I'll talk to you next time.
