Transcript
- 0:01What's up guys? Welcome back to another episode
- 0:04of Faction After Hours podcast. On today's episode we have Andy
- 0:08from Andy's mobile Dinos, and you guys have also possibly seen
- 0:12him at Freedom Motorsports because he's been tuning there
- 0:15for, I don't really know how long, but I'd say at least five
- 0:18years. So he's, you know, he's been
- 0:20tuning a lot of cars at Freedom Motorsports and now Andy is
- 0:24doing his own mobile Dino service.
- 0:26So basically what that means is he can travel to you and perform
- 0:30your Dino tune wherever you are. For example, he did a bunch of
- 0:34tunes for us down at English Town, basically right at the
- 0:36track, so trackside tuning and he want, he wants to come over
- 0:41here and do tuning at our shop, but I said we'll probably get
- 0:44evicted. So he can't really do that here.
- 0:45It's it's definitely very loud, but it's awesome that he's able
- 0:49to do this now and travel. So I'm sure he would be willing
- 0:52to travel out of state as well. Just contact him on Instagram
- 0:56and maybe you can set something up with him.
- 0:58We had a great conversation and I hope you guys enjoy.
- 1:02There's a lot of information in this one, so you know, get your
- 1:06notepad out, get ready to take some notes.
- 1:07We learned a lot of stuff and Carl finally figured out how
- 1:11turbo sizes work, So that was pretty funny.
- 1:15Enjoy. This podcast is sponsored by
- 1:19East Coast Drift School. East Coast Drift School is a
- 1:22driving school focused on learning the art of drifting,
- 1:24Conveniently located at the greatest drifting facility in
- 1:27the United States, Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.
- 1:31Raceway Park currently has three tracks, so you will have a few
- 1:33options to choose from when setting up your lessons.
- 1:36Chris Knapp, who is part of the Raceway Park family, will be
- 1:38your teacher as he guides you through car setup and technique.
- 1:41If you are more of a seasoned driver, East Coast Drift School
- 1:44is also the place where you can get some extra seat time.
- 1:46Chris allows private track time with no instructing as well so
- 1:49that you can get some tests and tune runs in before that big
- 1:51event or competition you have coming up.
- 1:54Instead of spending the night dodging the police with your
- 1:56boys, consider signing up with East Coast Drift School the next
- 1:58time they release their schedule.
- 2:00Chris releases the schedule on the 16th of every month through
- 2:02Instagram. Make sure to check them out,
- 2:05give them a follow and shoot over a direct message when you
- 2:07are ready to set up a date. You can find them on Instagram
- 2:10at East Coast Drift School. This podcast is also sponsored
- 2:13by Automotive Specialty Raps. Looking to have your car ceramic
- 2:16coated or wrapped? Look no further than Automotive
- 2:19Specialty Wraps. ASW is a company specializing in
- 2:22paint protection, film, vehicle wraps, ceramic coatings and
- 2:25window tinting. Owned and operated by car
- 2:27enthusiasts and Drifters, their technicians have over 10 years
- 2:30of experience in the industry. They are located right off of
- 2:33Route 208 in Fairlawn, New Jersey.
- 2:35Other than window tinting which is something we all need at some
- 2:37point, it was the ceramic coating that really caught my
- 2:39attention back when they reached out to us.
- 2:41This coating basically gives your cars paint extra UV
- 2:44protection while also making it shine.
- 2:46Wax only lasts a couple weeks at most, but ceramic coating lasts
- 2:50for a year or even longer. Honestly, this stuff is like
- 2:53witchcraft to me. Julian came down here one day to
- 2:55explain how it works and how it compares to wax and I was pretty
- 2:58stunned. They perform a full two stage
- 3:00Polish to the car beforehand just to make sure it's in
- 3:03perfect condition before applying the coating.
- 3:05As mentioned, they also offer window tinting and paint
- 3:08protection film installations. Now everyone knows what window
- 3:11tinting is, but these guys offer carbon or ceramic window
- 3:14tinting. Depends depending on your goals
- 3:16with the vehicle. Paint Protection Film or PPF is
- 3:19a great idea for those new vehicle owners that don't want
- 3:21to watch their investment get littered with rock shifts.
- 3:24Also keep in mind they are capable of getting liveries
- 3:26designed and installed as well as full vehicle wraps.
- 3:30From protecting your tow rigs exterior to full livery
- 3:32installations on your drift car, they have you covered.
- 3:35They also recently added mobile washes.
- 3:39So the way they're doing this is they will post a story, there'll
- 3:41be a link in the story on their Instagram and you can click it
- 3:45where you will be able to enter your full address and it
- 3:49literally tells you the services they offer right there.
- 3:52It's pretty awesome. The options are just inside the
- 3:55car, just outside the car, inside and out, and then a full
- 3:59detail inside and out. So you click one of those and
- 4:03then it'll also give you some extras.
- 4:04You can choose if you got, you know, crazy amount of pet hair
- 4:07in the car. If you want, ceramic sealant,
- 4:11child seat cleaning, engine Bay detail option, wow, yeah,
- 4:17there's a there's a bunch of options on here.
- 4:18It's actually really awesome. They just called and told us
- 4:22about this. So I wanted to add this to the
- 4:26podcast because this is, this is like something I didn't know
- 4:29that detail places did. But now that I see this, we're
- 4:33probably going to use them ourselves.
- 4:34So yeah, check this out. If you can't get to a car wash
- 4:38or if you know if you're at work or something, I'm sure they'll
- 4:40be able to come by and help you out.
- 4:42You can contact them over at Automotive specialtywraps.com
- 4:45and make sure they give them a follow on Instagram at
- 4:48Automotive Specialty Wraps. This podcast is brought to you

- 5:43We are also on Instagram at Faction Motorsports.
- 5:47It almost feels like it. It's not.
- 5:49We usually have this intro. Here it is.
- 5:51Here it is. Here it is here.
- 5:53You go. Here and then that's what I'm
- 5:56like. All right, Malcolm, Are we hot
- 5:59now? Like I it it's like routine like
- 6:02I have to that that has to happen.
- 6:03Malcolm tried to just start that podcast with no.
- 6:05Intro with no intro because this one is a pre recorded episode.
- 6:10I know a lot of people think that it's live sometimes when
- 6:12it's not, but welcome everybody to the Faction After Hours
- 6:15podcast. Tonight we're here to bring you
- 6:17another guest. We have Andy from Andy's mobile,
- 6:21Dino. That's a commercial right there,
- 6:27but actually Andy is the tuner that I feel like you and Frankie
- 6:31have a long relationship is. This true?
- 6:33I don't know if it's long, but we have a pretty A.
- 6:36Couple years. Yeah, a few years.
- 6:38You're a tuner. Yeah, he's the one that does all
- 6:40the tuning for pretty much any car.
- 6:43If we're involved with a car that needs to be tuned, it's
- 6:45probably going to Andy, because, yeah, I don't have anyone else
- 6:48that we bring the cars to, really, now that I'm thinking
- 6:51about it. Unless it's a Subaru, then it
- 6:52might go to prime motoring. That's like down the street.
- 6:55Oh yeah, that makes sense. Because down the a lot of
- 6:57Subaru. Yeah, down the street's a lot
- 6:59easier than 2 1/2 hours away. Which is where you're from and.
- 7:03My setup's not all-wheel drive, and yeah, I don't tune a lot of
- 7:06Subarus. Yeah, true.
- 7:07Oh yeah, I forgot. It's not even all-wheel drive.
- 7:10Nah, that it's a shop in Westchester that's just a few
- 7:13minutes down the road. OK, I'll rent from them if I
- 7:15need it, but. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:17OK, so you've done Subaru stuff before, but.
- 7:19Yeah, that's more or less before I started out, but more so at
- 7:24least with the laptop stuff like really getting into flashing
- 7:28Evos and and Subarus were the start of that.
- 7:32Oh yeah, the microser. I was just about to ask.
- 7:35Well, like jokingly off camera, I said.
- 7:38I'm going to ask what's the first thing you ever tuned?
- 7:40But I guess you answered that yourself just now.
- 7:42Yeah, more or less so. I got an Evo 8 in 2006 when I
- 7:47was was in college and honestly growing up I didn't have a
- 7:52computer at home or anything. I didn't know anything about
- 7:55computers. Decided to get into a an
- 8:01engineering degree that was very much computer based.
- 8:04So. Yeah, it's like I was I'm.
- 8:07I'm like trying to piece together here, 'cause I'm like,
- 8:09is this guy not use computers to tune today?
- 8:13Like, what's about the? What is he about?
- 8:14To tell me. In high school I was pretty set
- 8:17on being a mechanic, just kind of like cars.
- 8:20Just going to go with that. But then yeah, through college,
- 8:24doing more with electronics, microprocessors and all that.
- 8:28Had a laptop to do all of my schooling and whatnot.
- 8:30And my roommate had an O3 Bug Eye WRXSTI turbo and injectors.
- 8:36And I had a O3 EVO 8 and a lot of open source ECU stuffs
- 8:43available for those EVO Flash, EVO scan, so ECU flash and ROM
- 8:50Raider for the Subaru stuff. So we got into flashing and
- 8:55tuning the stock he sees in those.
- 8:56So that's probably that's really how I got much more into doing
- 9:00the laptop stuff before that, Like my first car when I was 16
- 9:04was a 90 Eagle Talon TSI, love the WRC watching rally racing
- 9:10all the time. Had to have an all-wheel drive.
- 9:12We had just talked about DSM stuff.
- 9:14Was it? DSM shit is a common common
- 9:17conversation in. This.
- 9:18OK, so when you're when you're dabbling in this stuff, how old
- 9:21are you roughly at this time? You said college, so.
- 9:24Yeah, that was 20. 20 OK How are you not afraid to just cause me?
- 9:32I'm like, OK, if I fuck around with some stuff, I'm breaking
- 9:35it. I'm doing like how How How are
- 9:38you? How'd you get a part of it like?
- 9:40What? Not to mention, these are brand
- 9:41new cars, yeah. Yeah, I couldn't.
- 9:44I couldn't afford that. I mean, it was a really good
- 9:46deal. I got it cheap because it needed
- 9:48a clutch, possibly other stuff. So yeah, I couldn't pass it up.
- 9:52Got a load on it, repaired it. Yeah.
- 9:54They're probably, what, five years old at this point?
- 9:57Yeah, yeah, It was like. You said it was O 6, not to age
- 10:00you or anything. I don't know if.
- 10:01You want? Oh yeah, that was.
- 10:02How old is it? O 636 OK, 37 soon.
- 10:05Real soon. Yeah, those are.
- 10:06Like brand new cars? Yes, O 5 is my year I graduated
- 10:10high school. So no, because I want to give
- 10:11the the the listeners are dude, I just found found this out.
- 10:15But our listeners age from fucking as young as I don't even
- 10:20know how young these kids are. And then to like older people
- 10:22who listen to this. So I want to give them a gauge
- 10:25that Andy can't just fucking go to YouTube and type in.
- 10:29Oh yeah. Oh, and it was way different
- 10:31back then too. It was a lot harder to get into
- 10:33figuring anything out because it wasn't like, you know, they have
- 10:36these nice tools like the tuning school, Horsepower Academy.
- 10:39You just go online, watch all these videos that explain
- 10:42different types of EC, us different strategies for boost
- 10:46control, nitrous control, you name it.
- 10:49Anything you want to find out, even specific to the exact
- 10:52platform you're working on? Videos out there back then trial
- 10:58and error. Figured out.
- 11:00Try not to blow the. Car.
- 11:01That's exactly what I'm talking about.
- 11:02Impossible. How are you dodging that you had
- 11:05to have some sort of pictures or like words?
- 11:09There was. There's definitely, like,
- 11:10there's books that have been out there for a long time, but most
- 11:13of it, you know, I started out even before cars was into power
- 11:17sports, dirt bikes, 4 Wheelers, whatever.
- 11:20Same deal with those. Get one that's blown up for
- 11:22cheap. Figure out how to put it back
- 11:24together. Yeah and forum though.
- 11:27And that was just yeah, for Oh yeah, especially with the EVO
- 11:29stuff and the Subaru stuff like Naziak Evo M there's a all the
- 11:34information, there's a wealth of of knowledge on there for yeah,
- 11:37for tuning an EVO back in O six there was write ups.
- 11:41You know DIY instructions. You could follow those and
- 11:45pretty much. You brought up.
- 11:47Get it right from there. You brought a Porsche?
- 11:49Horsepower Academy. Horse horsepower, bro.
- 11:54Such a good source of information, but I can't stand
- 11:58his accent, man. Are you kidding me?
- 12:00Oh my God. You're so fucking me, dude.
- 12:02He sounds so cool. Fuck.
- 12:03You He's so like proper. But I think it's making that
- 12:06like, I'm like, Oh my God, gotta stop.
- 12:09You gotta think though, such a cool concept.
- 12:11It's a really good, yeah, I well, I paid for something on
- 12:14that thing before. I've never.
- 12:15I can't even say I have. I definitely have.
- 12:18It was something maybe I should. Probably engine assembly one or
- 12:21whatever. I was like this guy.
- 12:22This guy is a fucking genius. I'm gonna.
- 12:25And kind of ironically, before HPA they had a shop St. tune, so
- 12:30I mean STM. Oh, STM, which is?
- 12:33You know, probably heard of STM New York.
- 12:35They did a lot of Vivos too. Yeah, it sounds familiar.
- 12:38But they had the fastest CT9A, which is Evo 7 through 9 chassis
- 12:43for a while. OK, when that was big, like AMS
- 12:46had one of the fastest ones and butcher racing and you know, do
- 12:50some racing. I remember those.
- 12:51Real big. And yeah, do you?
- 12:53Remember that fucking guy? The fucking fat white dude from
- 12:57like Connecticut or something that would that would tune and
- 13:00he was on he had so many videos on YouTube and he was like Bush
- 13:03or power. Bush or power?
- 13:05No. You're not talking about Big Al.
- 13:06Are you? Definitely, definitely.
- 13:08Bush or Power? What the hell is a Bush?
- 13:10Or power. I don't know much about that
- 13:12guy, but his videos are fucking funny.
- 13:14That's all I remember. Yeah, I think.
- 13:16He Is he alive? I don't know.
- 13:19Bro, I don't know, dude, I don't know.
- 13:21Isn't that a crazy question to ask?
- 13:23I guess, but like he was older. Yeah, he came and went fast,
- 13:26like. Yeah.
- 13:28He was. Are we talking about like, his
- 13:30lifespan? Well.
- 13:31His video, just the, you know, his oh, OK activity and motor
- 13:34sports and and stuff. It wasn't a lot of good stuff
- 13:39about him on Evo M Like at first he was just blown, came in real
- 13:45fast and was over in it. You know, really popular source
- 13:48for people in the Northeast. And then, you know, there was
- 13:51jokes that started floating around like the Sea of Eights.
- 13:53They're talking about the timing tables that people would find in
- 13:56their ECU, that he would do just like 8° of timing from this load
- 14:00up every RPM, just like he was just throwing shit out.
- 14:04There, I don't know. I know, that's what.
- 14:06I I told Carl. Me and Frankie just looked at
- 14:09each other with the same look of I.
- 14:11Told Carl before. Before he came I.
- 14:13Was like, he's going to be talking about a lot of shit.
- 14:15We're not going to understand how they're.
- 14:17Timing tables I'm like. Because me and.
- 14:19Andy will have conversations at the track and I'll be like
- 14:22talking about some problem and then and then he'll just start
- 14:25going off and I'm like, Oh my, I'm look the meme with all the
- 14:28numbers in it and I'm like trying to figure out what's
- 14:29going on and. I'm like holy.
- 14:31Shit, this guy's too smart for me, but.
- 14:34I always OK I this is might be off tangent.
- 14:36No, it's about tuning. What am I talking about?
- 14:38There's a scene in Tokyo Drift. When was the last time you
- 14:40watched Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift?
- 14:42Oh, probably not that. Long ago?
- 14:44Oh, pretty recent. It was on Netflix.
- 14:45Do you have Netflix? You've.
- 14:46Got to have. It was oh, it's on.
- 14:47Netflix. There's this scene in there
- 14:50where they're whole, they're tuning the RX8, tuning it, you
- 14:54know, and they're like, they're like.
- 14:57Oh, he. Wants to know there's a there's
- 14:59a hole in your fuel map or some shit like that.
- 15:02Does that does that? Does that hold any type of water
- 15:07at all? Basically, what does that mean
- 15:08and can you explain? It yeah, like what are they
- 15:10talking about Does that does that even remotely?
- 15:14I mean, you'd have kind of, I guess, if you just like didn't.
- 15:20Does that should make you chuckle?
- 15:21Like, what are you talking about?
- 15:22Some like some stuff like there's only so many conditions
- 15:24you're going to actually like reach in the table, like load an
- 15:27RPM. You're not going to hit a turbo
- 15:29car, you're not going to hit one bar of boost at 1000 RPM.
- 15:32Most likely, yeah, hopefully not.
- 15:34But you would still extrapolate, you know, roughly where you do
- 15:38hit that load. You know it's going to be
- 15:40something in this ballpark probably never going to be
- 15:43reached, but but you see that a lot with if I'm looking at other
- 15:47tunes or difficult, you never know what might be in in an ECS
- 15:50where he's been messing around with it.
- 15:51And like I imagine when they say like a hole in the field table,
- 15:53there's just like a part of the field table that's just not
- 15:55really. Filled in.
- 15:57Filled in or populated with sensible numbers.
- 16:00It would just be mega lean or rich or something and.
- 16:03It's that bad. It's not what we're trying to
- 16:05avoid. Yeah, generally, yeah.
- 16:07You don't want to leave any spots that are going to be so
- 16:09far out of whack that it's just going to sputter and and that
- 16:12would. Freak me out.
- 16:14But you see that a lot and like say someone that's just been
- 16:18taking their car to the drag strip and they'll have like an
- 16:20area of the map that's kind of, it's like the main timing map,
- 16:23but there's just like a hole in it that's just for where they
- 16:26stage on. You know, if they foot break it,
- 16:28where their converter stall is like let's just pull a bunch of
- 16:31timing out to get the boost to build up, get into a higher part
- 16:35of the table where it's just like normal numbers again.
- 16:37But it's not really the right way to do it.
- 16:38And if you're St. driving it and you pass through that part of
- 16:41the table, it would you feel like crap?
- 16:43Yeah, you lose all the you lose a ton of power and.
- 16:47That definitely would cause NILA to drift bad.
- 16:50That's yeah, Nila. Yeah.
- 16:52What? You don't know the main girl
- 16:54character? She was Tokyo.
- 16:55She was hot. Had my heart.
- 16:57Don't do disrespect her, just call her hot.
- 16:59She was pretty hot. She was gorgeous.
- 17:01Malcolm, can you confirm her tonight?
- 17:04Malcolm Gab. Malcolm Gab.
- 17:05He's here. Tokyo Drift?
- 17:097 out of 10. Wow.
- 17:12Thank you. Goodbye.
- 17:14All right. I mean, it's hard to please
- 17:17Malcolm. Though do do most.
- 17:18Cause Princess is just so amazing.
- 17:19Yeah, just, you know. You know.
- 17:21She's probably in here somewhere.
- 17:23She's creeping. Moving.
- 17:24Forward. Can you make sure to give her to
- 17:27let her listen to that part? I love Princess.
- 17:28She's. Probably in here.
- 17:30It's not recorded. Oh fuck.
- 17:31We're not live so she'll hear it.
- 17:35Either way, may just just look so bad just now it's.
- 17:37Just me. Don't worry.
- 17:38It's not you. I know.
- 17:40Well I wanted to know do most EC us like populate the map
- 17:44themselves or you have to go in there and like Oh my God.
- 17:47Yeah, you you can. Start with a base file and a lot
- 17:50of stuff. Like say someone has whatever EC
- 17:53they put a haltech in their car and it's not something to have a
- 17:56base map for. You get any software you can
- 17:58download, AM Infinity, tuner, haltech, ESPNSP, whatever ECU
- 18:06master. They all have their own library
- 18:08of base files, and if you're talking about like the most ECS
- 18:12are going to run like speed density, they're going to have a
- 18:14VE table. You can just go find a source
- 18:17generally for a starting point. But you know if it's speed
- 18:21density, you can more or less fill it out with close guesses
- 18:26and it's a good starting point. You're going to be like 50 or
- 18:2960% at idle, you're going to be like 100% at peak torque.
- 18:32We just kind of smooth everything out between there and
- 18:36then when it actually gets time to tune it, you know, set it up
- 18:39properly. But.
- 18:40So there is one company to name in there.
- 18:44Why? Power FC.
- 18:45Power FC There's that, there's that.
- 18:47Pre populated. They come with pre populated but
- 18:48they don't come with like different maps.
- 18:50It's a nice concept though that I was thinking would be a good
- 18:53service to add kind of a a missing service in the industry
- 18:58right now. You know, you get a standalone
- 19:00ECU and it's you're expected to just read through the 40 page
- 19:04instruction and go to the website with the correct file,
- 19:07yadda yadda. But it's really nice when you
- 19:10get something like a power off seat, plug it in, turn it on and
- 19:13it'll start, yeah. Will it?
- 19:15I don't know any. Cases, yeah.
- 19:17And even if you have larger injectors you just go to the
- 19:19injector section. It's just has a general scaling,
- 19:22you just add or reduce until. Oh, I could do that.
- 19:26And he just complimented Apexi. Or I think I could do that I.
- 19:28Think that's what draws people to him?
- 19:30Is he just? Plugged it in.
- 19:31Pretty plugged usually. Just got to run.
- 19:33I'll tell you what draws. What now?
- 19:34What about Mega? Game score What is?
- 19:37A a buddy of mine runs Megasquirt and he's like, yeah,
- 19:40I just went in there. I just fucking typed whatever
- 19:42the fuck in, which seems to work pretty good.
- 19:44I'm like, are you serious? Like when I I believe him.
- 19:47Like he found a map I guess, or something.
- 19:49No, he just probably was working on it on himself.
- 19:52I don't. I don't.
- 19:52Know. So he probably just plugged.
- 19:53It in. Yeah, there's nothing.
- 19:55So they they sell, plug and play EC US as well.
- 19:58I mean, you have to go load the base file, but it'll if you get
- 20:00one for a Fox Body Mustang, you load their base.
- 20:04Tune for it. We'll probably be pretty close.
- 20:07You can do the same thing with the Haltech plugin or any of the
- 20:11kits with, you know, patch harnesses.
- 20:14Plug them in, put the base file in.
- 20:15I'm probably going to be close. Think about Big L Right now I'm
- 20:18just. Who is this?
- 20:19Person. Push your power I'm.
- 20:22I'm going to send you the videos later.
- 20:23You're going to have to because I.
- 20:25Fucking I forgot what his name was till right now, so.
- 20:27I I've messed up. A buddy of mine had an Evo.
- 20:29I think I've mentioned him on the podcast before.
- 20:31Hopefully he does fucking find this shit.
- 20:32But he had an Evo. It was probably the first fast
- 20:36car I've ever felt where I was genuinely afraid.
- 20:40But it was tuned by somebody, I think.
- 20:42I don't know where in New York it was.
- 20:45No, it was. His name was like Urkel or
- 20:47something like E Spec. Oh.
- 20:50Yeah, or something like that. And.
- 20:52We would, that is, Yep. That is.
- 20:54Yep. I think he's in Florida now or
- 20:55something. But yeah, Urkel, yeah.
- 20:57That was him. That's a guy that took a bunch
- 21:00of. Evils.
- 21:00Yeah, No. Feeling that that was it.
- 21:03Because a friend of mine had gotten their stuff tuned at that
- 21:07shop and like I it came back and it was a lot of like weird
- 21:09things about it. But.
- 21:11Everyone always blames the tuner, too.
- 21:13No, no, it was the tunes. The the car was built there.
- 21:15And no matter how close it is to running or not, it just needs a.
- 21:17Tune. Yeah, it just needs a tune.
- 21:19It could be like multiple cracks in the intake manifold.
- 21:22Now the. Tunes we We've called Dandy so
- 21:24many times. We're like, yeah, we think it's
- 21:26just the tune, yeah. And he'll be like, he'll go in
- 21:29and he'll like remote in and like try to look for something.
- 21:31He's like, I don't really see anything on here.
- 21:32How annoying has that got to be? Like you know the answer most of
- 21:36the time is that would that, would that be correct in saying
- 21:38that? Well, it depends like if it's
- 21:41something you know with a sense or anything that you can, I can
- 21:44see on my end if it's if we're talking like trying to remote
- 21:46diag, I can tell or I can get an idea of what might be wrong.
- 21:51But sometimes it's it's frustrating because I'm like I
- 21:54know if I was there I'd I would look for this or that but it's
- 21:58yeah there's varying levels of difficulty with doing the remote
- 22:01stuff and that's I remote tune a little bit but it's you just
- 22:06never know what you're. Going to get from that sounds
- 22:07like a pain in the ass. I'm sorry, but it's Is it a pain
- 22:10in the ass? Imagine.
- 22:11So much it really is down to who's on the other side.
- 22:15Like I had a customer that was in, I think he was somewhere in
- 22:18Michigan Man Power FC S chassis. And I said.
- 22:22Michigan. I wasn't going to remote tune.
- 22:24I would have, yeah. I would have said no right off
- 22:25the. Bat Who the fuck?
- 22:26Is it? Who are you?
- 22:27It's like, I don't know about remote tuning a Power FC
- 22:30because, you know, I have to get them to wire the wide band into
- 22:33their data, log it so I can actually see even that much
- 22:36data. But he did that.
- 22:39You know, I gave him, sent him like a brief instruction and he
- 22:42couple hours later sent me back a log.
- 22:45He's like, did I do this right? That looks.
- 22:47Yeah, that actually looks correct.
- 22:49Figured all right well, at least get a base tune going.
- 22:51And from start to finish it was less than an hour and it's
- 22:55tuned. It worked.
- 22:56I've done a lot it. Was easy.
- 22:57I've done that with my car before.
- 22:58I sent Dave from Toge factory tune my car in like 2014 because
- 23:03I I actually had it. Funny enough, I had it done at
- 23:05freedom. But it wasn't you.
- 23:06It was someone else. And I must have got it back.
- 23:10And I was like, I must have thought there was some weird
- 23:12problem with like probably some dumb shit, probably like Idol or
- 23:15like street driving shit. And then he's like, I don't even
- 23:19know how this conversation got started or what, but all of a
- 23:22sudden he's like, yeah, I'll do it.
- 23:23I send him the map. I do like a what do you call it?
- 23:27Street. Datalog A Yeah.
- 23:30Data log on my Power FC. And I was like, damn, this is
- 23:32sick. So I had to get like the data
- 23:34logic and all that bullshit. That's why I have it and then
- 23:37do. I need that.
- 23:38Dude, he did. He did two runs.
- 23:41Then I drove the car like that for fucking six years.
- 23:44Five years, Same tune. I was like, this shit runs
- 23:46pretty good. And then the piston melted.
- 23:49But I think that was my. Fault Six years, though.
- 23:52Yeah, no, it was great. It was cool.
- 23:54You know, it's cool that we could do this like, remote shit.
- 23:57I think I'm thinking about it too much because I'm over here.
- 23:59I'm like, well, you put one of these numbers in wrong, let's
- 24:03say. Not that I'm going to do that,
- 24:05not that I'm going to do that. I'm going to fully entrust
- 24:08everything into Andy now because now I'm hearing this.
- 24:11I'm like I'm too stupid. I think to try this on my own.
- 24:16There's some things that, like you just don't.
- 24:19You could. You could probably learn how to
- 24:20do it like when I. Yeah, but why wouldn't I just?
- 24:22I'd want it to be. True.
- 24:23Yeah. You're not gonna do it yourself.
- 24:25Well, yeah. So I would go to somebody like
- 24:27Andy. But you could learn to know what
- 24:28you're looking at when you're when you have the computer
- 24:30plugged in and everything, which I feel like is pretty.
- 24:32Would you suggest people? Is it a learnable?
- 24:35Are not learnable? Is that even a fucking word?
- 24:37Do you think people are able to teach themselves that still
- 24:40today like how to tune on the street even with like the newer?
- 24:44Or would you say it's easier now with the newer EC US?
- 24:46It's a lot easier, yeah. There's so much better
- 24:49collecting data and making it viewable.
- 24:51And I mean, we need to go back to like chip tuning, NISS stock,
- 24:55Nissan EC, US like it's a lot of just rummaging around in the
- 24:59dark like or like I'm probably here on this table.
- 25:04I don't know. And you know.
- 25:06Wait, what do you mean like you don't even know?
- 25:08You. Ballpark.
- 25:10Know what the depending on. You know this if you're logging
- 25:14and you have all of the. Tools.
- 25:16Sometimes this stuff wasn't available, you know, years and
- 25:18years ago. So like sometimes it just be.
- 25:22So. Like the right thing to do and.
- 25:25It's just hauling ass at. Trial and error, yeah.
- 25:28So when they when they say like ROM tuning and shit like you're
- 25:31talking about Evos and STIs, is that like completely different
- 25:35than Nissan? So, yeah, a little bit.
- 25:40Because you need like a ship or something for a Nissan.
- 25:42It's like a lot of OBD 2 stuff, especially you know, Subaru's,
- 25:45Evos, BMWs, OBD2 BMWs. You can flash the EPROM through
- 25:52the OED 2 port. So when you're talking about
- 25:55chip tuning, there's already CU's.
- 25:58Let's just say, for example, like an RB20 is an easy one.
- 26:01They just have a single like DIP 24 EPROM chip.
- 26:06You desolder it, put a socket in, so you make it removable,
- 26:09and you actually just so you modify the chip.
- 26:13Yeah, so you got to find the file on the chip.
- 26:15Convert it so that you can mess with it.
- 26:18Yeah, you put a rewritable memory chip in there and and
- 26:22then somebody yourself or somebody else out there in the
- 26:26world of the Internet has to take the actual binary file
- 26:31dumped off of that EPROM and go through it and find the tables.
- 26:35Make a definition like a XML file.
- 26:38That seems way harder. Addresses all of it so that you
- 26:41can open it up in a hex editor and view the tables correctly.
- 26:45And even then sometimes like data is not always in the same
- 26:48spot, from ECUID to another ECUID, from year to year.
- 26:53Some things change. You have to modify it and make
- 26:56sure you're editing the right thing 'cause sometimes you might
- 26:57just it looks correct in the table you enter something in and
- 27:01it just works the whole file. I was going to say car won't
- 27:05even run on it. You key on no fuel pump prime,
- 27:07it's like, well yeah, that wasn't the right thing to
- 27:10change. Dude.
- 27:11And then, like you, you probably mailed it out and then you got
- 27:13it back, and then you 'cause that's what they used to.
- 27:15Do too. Yeah, they would do mailing
- 27:17chips back and forth, dude. That shit's crazy.
- 27:20I don't, Yeah. Some people still ask for that.
- 27:22I'm. Like I know people veer away now
- 27:25from like stuff like that, like remember Rs entropy.
- 27:30Yeah, he still he still does that, Yeah.
- 27:32Yeah, I know you. Just send him your mods and then
- 27:34you send it out and then he literally chipped.
- 27:37He's literally just basically doing what you just said.
- 27:39Just. But he's doing the all in one,
- 27:41like he just sends it back. It's ready to go, I think,
- 27:43right? Yeah, I think a lot of them will
- 27:44be like, this is with Azee 32 math and his MO 555 injectors or
- 27:50whatever. And it's just like he's done
- 27:52enough of them. He's got a catalog.
- 27:53Yeah, he's like, yeah, that's so, you know, you know he's
- 27:55probably tuned several a a bunch of those in person.
- 27:58We knows it works no matter how. Many times I hear about that
- 28:01shit like working and stuff. I always think to myself.
- 28:03The Horror Story. But isn't isn't every every car
- 28:06still a little different? Some are making different
- 28:08compressions. Some.
- 28:10Yeah. What if you have?
- 28:11I mean, God forbid you have cams in there.
- 28:12You don't even know you have them.
- 28:13I mean that could be another problem too.
- 28:14Dude, I don't know, man. Stuff like that, that changes
- 28:17actual VE, the engine that is going to have more of an effect.
- 28:21But you know. The one the engine 20. 8 versus
- 28:25another like a 28860 Rs versus like a 2871.
- 28:31Probably in the same turbine. Probably like the same turbine
- 28:34housing. You're not messing with the back
- 28:36pressure. The engine sees that much.
- 28:37It's not going to be vastly different.
- 28:40It's so. Weird like.
- 28:41But then, But then of course you get a car on a dyno and you
- 28:44start running it and you're making adjustments.
- 28:46That's the other thing. So there's always, you could
- 28:49tinker forever. There's always little bits of
- 28:51stuff you can clean up, and that's something you just get
- 28:55used to over time. You just know where, like that's
- 28:58enough. That's the that's fine enough.
- 29:00So no matter what, like if you got a male in tune, it's not
- 29:03gonna. Be never gonna be 100% OEM, but
- 29:07I feel like you just want it to run good enough for you to drift
- 29:10as long as you can. Yeah, but you want it to be safe
- 29:13too. Well, yeah, That that goes with
- 29:16what I just said. Like you can't be on something
- 29:19dangerous forever. Yeah.
- 29:21Yeah, and that's really the trade off too is like the harder
- 29:24you lean into it, you're always trading off longevity for
- 29:27reliability. You know if you take an engine
- 29:29and add 50% horsepower and the OEM designed it to make it, you
- 29:34know, through the warranty period as reliably as possible
- 29:37without too much you know, over engineering and cost.
- 29:41But you know that same to that same token, like every stock ECU
- 29:45has the same file on it. They're not custom.
- 29:47Tuned or unique from? One another.
- 29:48So you know it's all about how far you trend away from that?
- 29:53That was a kind of cool point. Yeah, literally.
- 29:55It's not like the stock ECU is different for each fucking car.
- 29:59Yeah. Newer ECU's are really good at
- 30:01just they just figure everything out real time anyway.
- 30:04Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but older ones.
- 30:07Older ones, they were just like that chip that we were just
- 30:09talking about taking out of an old Nissan ECU.
- 30:11They're all basically the same. Same tables, same numbers are in
- 30:14those. I will say that I've ridden in a
- 30:16car with an Rs enthalpy where it works good as hell.
- 30:21D walk in 240SX the blue one. Nick dude, that thing hauls ass.
- 30:27There's a video of me geeking in that and it's like the old setup
- 30:30that I said to him. I was like you know, this setup
- 30:32is like that setup that everybody says stay away from
- 30:36this. Why?
- 30:37What? What?
- 30:37Just cause of the R it's old everything.
- 30:39It's like a disco potato looking turbo and like the the, the I
- 30:44seen, the the ECU I'm like is this on like that old type of
- 30:50thing and like this power steering stuff is all like so
- 30:52it. Really makes like, what, 300?
- 30:53Horsepower. It's fast as shit.
- 30:54Could be a million in there, I think.
- 30:57Yeah. What's up, Victoria?
- 30:58I hope you hear this, but that's.
- 31:01The other you brought up the point there, that stuff's
- 31:02getting a lot older. Like, there's one thing to chip
- 31:05to in these cars, you know? Like, to me, they don't seem
- 31:07like they're that much older than they are, you know?
- 31:10Yeah, but 20 years ago that might have been a good option,
- 31:13but now that's some that's old hardware.
- 31:17I don't know how. Houses are worn out.
- 31:19Those are, you know, components in that ECU are probably not
- 31:22working the way they're supposed to be.
- 31:23What if it's just broken in just the right amount?
- 31:26You know what I mean? Like where where something is
- 31:29just letting something else go by and it's making it 1000%
- 31:33better. I never really thought about the
- 31:35ECU is being worn, but. Yeah, I mean there's there's
- 31:38components, they have everything has you know a life cycle.
- 31:41It has even like relays, they'll have a a switch limit, like a
- 31:45million or something really high value.
- 31:49But you can reach it like sometimes, you just have to
- 31:54replace old hardware. What do you think is going to
- 31:57happen with like? I don't know, like because in
- 32:00the future, you know, future, you know this scary shit.
- 32:06Like, do you think tuning is going to be a way of do you
- 32:08think eventually ECU's are just going to fucking figure this
- 32:11shit out? I mean they kind of do already,
- 32:13but I he's saying if you if you put like performance.
- 32:15Modifications. I'm saying like somebody gets
- 32:19they make something newer than a link or newer than a standalone.
- 32:22But you're saying like if I buy a car and I have a standalone on
- 32:25it or something and then I put like a bigger turbo on it, the
- 32:27ECU will? Just figure it out, know what to
- 32:29do. Yeah, yeah, I guess that is a
- 32:30valid question. If that's possible, absolutely I
- 32:34think so, like. Not to run you out of your job
- 32:36or anything that. 'D be great if.
- 32:39That'd be awesome if it just works that well and.
- 32:42He goes on a vacation for like, do you have like, are you are
- 32:46you guys busy as hell? Like how often?
- 32:48He's got a full time job too, right?
- 32:49Yeah, the tuning's a part time thing for me.
- 32:51I just do that on weekends. I wanted to ask you what you do
- 32:54full time. Or for a company that we do
- 32:58automated industrial equipment. So OK, basically just automated
- 33:02forklifts, no drivers. That's some fucking.
- 33:05And we're over here talking about automated tuning.
- 33:07That's some. Terminators.
- 33:08Synchronicity. I'm a little scared of
- 33:11automated. Machines.
- 33:12It's pretty. It's been around for a long time
- 33:14so. Oh yeah.
- 33:16Yeah, and. It.
- 33:17Just does one thing, you know? It's people.
- 33:20Yeah. It's not.
- 33:20Yeah. It's just like a real big AI
- 33:22element, right? Now.
- 33:23But maybe they will. That's what they'll use.
- 33:25For the tuning. For taking over the world.
- 33:28Well, there's actually Dodgey CU's have a neural network.
- 33:31They're. I mean, you could say they're
- 33:33AI. What was that?
- 33:35Wait, can you do you have any more information on this?
- 33:38Yeah, like I said, back to the thing.
- 33:40What if you throw a turbo on it? HP Tuners has a nice neural
- 33:44network training tool and you can go in and adjust how the
- 33:48neural network works and train it for conditions that you're
- 33:51expecting and it will pre train the AI well.
- 33:55You're saying neural network you're talking about, yeah.
- 33:57The brain, yeah. That's what an artificial neural
- 34:00network that's that's AI. You're so freaking smart.
- 34:07That's. Why you like, that's why.
- 34:08You're. Yeah, them, them automatic robot
- 34:10stuff. And then Andy's like, yeah.
- 34:13So. You said Dodge does that.
- 34:15That's the, yeah, that's the strategy they have I.
- 34:17Feel like those Hellcats should probably not have that kind of
- 34:19technology. I fucking love that shit, man.
- 34:22Yeah, but I don't know. But it's all a matter of like
- 34:25there's a preset number of conditions it's going to look at
- 34:29for scenarios, and it's trained to do a certain thing.
- 34:33Yeah, when a certain combination of events happen.
- 34:35And it's not a really like advanced AI or anything, yeah.
- 34:39Crazy like, yeah, now that. I think that's.
- 34:40What they say and then. Somebody in somebody's going to
- 34:42be listening to this and they're going to, they're going to
- 34:44probably be like, they've been doing this for years, you
- 34:47fucking idiot. And I'm going to, what the hell
- 34:49do I know? Like what the?
- 34:51Even like Ford, kind of real time Nissan, the new ECU's, they
- 34:55kind of real time figure out the amount of ignition advance they
- 34:58should have. I saw a comment the other day
- 35:01where 'cause they were arguing, that clip of us talking about
- 35:04power FCS with PJ. Yeah, I didn't even know.
- 35:06That there was an argument, somebody's comment, I I wish I
- 35:09remembered the name, but it said stop making 1998 engine run like
- 35:162023 engine or something like that and that should suck.
- 35:20With me it was really good, whatever it was.
- 35:22That should suck with me because if if it ran, if let's say that
- 35:25one J, I'm going to use the one J as an example.
- 35:27It's my favorite thing. But let's say A1J ran amazing in
- 35:301999 on the power FC. What is preventing it from
- 35:34running just as well now? To me on the power, to me the
- 35:37only thing people argue about Andy could chime in, but the
- 35:40only thing people really argue about is the fail safe.
- 35:42So I feel like that is the most important thing about modern EC
- 35:44US compared to like a power of C.
- 35:46That's definitely a huge factor. Yeah.
- 35:49Yeah. It can compensate for a number
- 35:52of you can add sensors and strategies that compensate for
- 35:56more conditions than the power of C ever knows about, and they
- 35:59can add different protection measures, engine protection that
- 36:03intervenes when any number of different things or, you know,
- 36:08out of spec. Or this is how I this is how I
- 36:10compare it. When people have this argument
- 36:11with me, I'm like, all right, so me with the power of C in my car
- 36:15is like a 1941 like Mustang fighter pilot versus like where
- 36:22I versus 1,000,000 gauges on the fucking thing.
- 36:24And I got to make sure they're all working versus like, you
- 36:26know, a new F16 that's not even new.
- 36:29What's an F22? You just want to do.
- 36:32You just want to be so it's just a computer.
- 36:34And they're just like everything's fine.
- 36:36Well, I have AI have an. Opinion I don't need.
- 36:38To I don't need to know anything, I don't think.
- 36:39Gauges. No one looks at cages.
- 36:41You don't. Need I look at gauges when shit
- 36:43is already too late? It's like I oh, I guess it's
- 36:47fucked. I don't know, man.
- 36:49That's all the gauge is ever going to do for you.
- 36:50You're going to like, oh, something broke.
- 36:52Oh, it was that. I don't know, man.
- 36:53I look at my gauge, it's already.
- 36:54I do. I look at gauges.
- 36:56I look at them right before I right before I'm about to hit,
- 36:58going to turn one and then right after the last turn.
- 37:00Dude, I look at the gauges. If I had a gauge, I don't
- 37:04remember the last time I did. But when I'm about to get sent
- 37:07off, like, I look at it once and then maybe if something goes
- 37:12wrong, like I feel like a yeah, I'll like go like like look over
- 37:17like that. But maybe that's it.
- 37:18That's all you need. That's what I'm saying.
- 37:20That's why I feel like I didn't need it.
- 37:23I'm used to doing that. Yeah, I mean.
- 37:25Can you? This is maybe off topic now, but
- 37:28to both of you, Can you guys ride in a car without looking at
- 37:32a single piece of information aside from the speed?
- 37:37You mean like getting in the? Car like looking never look,
- 37:39never look down no, but on. On track.
- 37:41Or no, no, no, just in general, just in general.
- 37:44Say in my Z like. Like going on the street, going
- 37:46to the store. I'll look at the temp gauge on
- 37:48the grid. It doesn't really matter where
- 37:50it's at. I'll be like, OK, it's too hot,
- 37:53gonna drive it again. And you know, what I really look
- 37:55for is the steam to come out of the.
- 37:58Yeah. You're looking for visible.
- 38:00Failure blew the pressure cap. You know, crap it can.
- 38:02Now it's. But I mean like.
- 38:04I mean like your everyday driving.
- 38:06Because I've noticed this are you ever get in a car with
- 38:08somebody who's knows nothing about?
- 38:10Cars. Probably a car person.
- 38:11Thing I know. I know nothing about cars at
- 38:13all. Sorry, Chris is hitting
- 38:15something outside. I think he's beating up Jesus.
- 38:18No, Jesus is not here. Jesus is.
- 38:20Jesus is. Out sick today we got his
- 38:22replacement, Lewis. Lewis is.
- 38:25Going to look at them, they're all working.
- 38:26Oh my God, Eddie's filming them too.
- 38:28Look at that. Shit.
- 38:28Oh my God, they're working. They're working on Chris's
- 38:30engine. Holy.
- 38:32Crap. God bless.
- 38:35What the hell were we? Talking to I definitely checked
- 38:37gauges in my truck. Yeah.
- 38:39But but everyday. People pressure, it's not
- 38:41overheating. Cool.
- 38:42They don't know what these gauges do.
- 38:44Yeah. That.
- 38:45Blows my mind. And the newer cars that come out
- 38:48have less and less gauges. They're no, but there's Don't
- 38:51worry about it. There's a bunch in there.
- 38:52You just gotta like click through and there's like
- 38:55information on everything. I mean dummy gauges, but.
- 38:58I remember my mom. This is like 7 years ago.
- 39:00My mom got a Subaru Impreza. I was like, oh, it's the new
- 39:03one. It must be pretty nice.
- 39:04I was like, where's the water temp gauge?
- 39:06They just got rid of it. It's a light, it just says blue.
- 39:09Yeah, blue when it's cold. And then it goes.
- 39:11Away when it's I was like, dude. A lot of cars don't have
- 39:15dipsticks you don't measure. Yeah.
- 39:17That one, the mechanical means of measuring the oil, It just
- 39:19has that, that one weird. A light will come on if it's too
- 39:21low. It's because they don't want
- 39:22you. To know when it's too they.
- 39:23Just want it to blow up and you bring it in for warranty get.
- 39:25To the dealer? Yeah, get your maintenance.
- 39:27Yeah. My roommate Tyler has.
- 39:29You've seen Tyler's car. He has a newer.
- 39:31My roommate has a newer Caiman. One day there's a crazy error
- 39:35message. I believe it said coolant level
- 39:39low red big turn off or. Something like that.
- 39:44He also has an SW20MR2, so he's like cooling level, no.
- 39:51So then he he's like still calm about it.
- 39:53He's like, yeah, he'll get like just slightly below gives you
- 39:56that message so that you could go to the dealer and fucking
- 39:58have him do a service on it and then it's over.
- 40:00That's what Eddie's car just did outside with the fucking the
- 40:03Volkswagen his His cooling level was low and it like.
- 40:06Like you better fucking you better fuck it now.
- 40:09Get the hell out of the car. Right now it's.
- 40:12Over for you. Yeah.
- 40:14You guys dude, kiss. This car.
- 40:15Goodbye, I. Love gauges, man.
- 40:17The more gauges the better. Like the old Japanese, like.
- 40:20I was just about. These One Cars and Style guys
- 40:22love that. I was all like. 40 gauges?
- 40:24Yeah, supposed. To be edgy, bro dude, he just
- 40:27want that. Was like what I like did.
- 40:29You hear yourself earlier. What it's.
- 40:31It's like I'm 1941. That's what it is though.
- 40:35Airline pilot. That's what it is and.
- 40:37Everyone else around me is like. Some nerd.
- 40:40New. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:42That's how I feel. That's you.
- 40:43There's some. There's some cool nostalgia to
- 40:45that, especially like analog gauge, yes.
- 40:46You know. Yeah, feels more mechanical.
- 40:48This fucking gritty boost. Gauge right here.
- 40:51You know how long it took me to find this thing on Yahoo
- 40:54Auctions? I'll find that for you right
- 40:55now. So that's a Alibaba.
- 40:57That's a gritty gauge, but it's a it's really a deafy.
- 41:00It's just a gritty face. They did like a a collaboration
- 41:03or something at some point. So those are all the ones I have
- 41:06and this was like the last one I needed but I finally found it.
- 41:10Do you know what I liked? I do like that.
- 41:12But if if we're going, oh, mechanical, you know, on old
- 41:17planes when they had the old label maker that like it like
- 41:20almost punches it and stamps it, Dymo used to make them oh, where
- 41:24you feel. Like, I know what you're talking
- 41:25about, yeah. I bought 1 so I could fucking
- 41:29make the little labels for like the oil pressure.
- 41:31One's going to say drunk. That's some edgy shit.
- 41:35Come on, dude, You want to be Tom Cruise?
- 41:37Come in. Got that shit?
- 41:40He's got a label maker 100% our cars look.
- 41:42Cooler with all those gauges, you know, no linky CUS.
- 41:45I just don't. No, they're good.
- 41:48Though I don't like when when they are places where they don't
- 41:51belong. You know what I mean?
- 41:53Like like where? Like, I don't know.
- 41:56Like, it just asks that there's a good way to make those gauges
- 42:00look. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:01But there's also a bad way to make those gauges look.
- 42:03And you also. Got to make sure you can
- 42:04actually see them. That's why I like those newer
- 42:06ones. You could have like a whatever
- 42:08you call that Dash info screen and that is those eight gauges.
- 42:15In. One little 4 by 4 screen.
- 42:17Dude, I feel like. Power of C was ahead of its time
- 42:19with that, at least back there. With the commander.
- 42:22Back then, because you could. See all those, all that
- 42:24information like now modern ECU's, they do have that, but
- 42:28you gotta pay like extra for it or something like that.
- 42:30But yeah, that was a nice yes. First thing they added, Yeah,
- 42:34for something. So.
- 42:35Cold edit the anything you want with that that you can do like
- 42:38anything you can do with the FC Commander software or the log at
- 42:42FC Edit like do you you can get to all that.
- 42:45Through the Yeah, you ever seen people like, do a whole map on
- 42:48that thing? Yeah, I can't.
- 42:50Can you actually though 'cause now that Andys?
- 42:52Here tuned a whole. Thing that you have done.
- 42:54Someones done it. Yeah, that would.
- 42:55Be horrible. You can.
- 42:57Though yes. Randy has said to me, yeah, you
- 42:59can build a whole tune on there. But now that you're here, can
- 43:02you? If you wanted to, I guess, yeah.
- 43:05That's fucking terrifying. You go into each cell and you
- 43:08can change the. Number at once at a time and you
- 43:10can only see like the ones directly around them, so you
- 43:13have to. I'm just never going to touch
- 43:16it. I'd be so scared to touch it.
- 43:18And then like, something will change and I'm like, Oh my God,
- 43:20what did I just. Do I?
- 43:21I would. I would mess with mine back then
- 43:23because I was like, oh, idol, like only idol problems.
- 43:26I would not fuck with anything like on throttle because I was
- 43:28like, I'm not. I don't know where that's going
- 43:30to be, but I would like try to mess with it a little bit and
- 43:33like dude, it's just so much to learn.
- 43:36What do you read in the manual? I was on forums probably, yeah.
- 43:40And if you go on forums, you'll see the crazy motherfuckers that
- 43:43are like, yeah, I did my whole tune through the handheld.
- 43:45I'm like, what the fuck is wrong with you?
- 43:47What's a log it data Log it. So that's like an aftermarket
- 43:51Australian company, I think it is or New Zealand?
- 43:54Australian or New Zealand? Yeah, they're all.
- 43:56From down there somewhere. They basically made the Apexi
- 43:59software, but they made their own version of it so that you
- 44:02can. Record it.
- 44:03So you can basically hook a laptop up and edit.
- 44:06Do I need that? That's what I would recommend if
- 44:10you were going to get software, but you don't actually need it.
- 44:12You just need the. Well, actually, if you go to a
- 44:14tuner, he's going to have everything to plug.
- 44:16In like you, Andy, you, yeah. Yeah.
- 44:18So you'd be. Fine.
- 44:18Perfect. All right.
- 44:20Yeah. I just had it so that I 'cause I
- 44:23originally the one I had was like quote UN quote hardwired
- 44:26into my car. Like I put it behind my glove
- 44:27box and just had a cable running out.
- 44:29That way I could plug in and then either data log or check
- 44:33something if I had to, or change some settings here and there,
- 44:35like the the water temp adjustment and all that shit.
- 44:39Like when it gets hot, that's the only fail safe I have and
- 44:42stuff. Yeah, so stuff like that.
- 44:44But then everyone always needs it, so I got to rip it out of my
- 44:47fucking car. Do you have any like?
- 44:48Weird. What's the weirdest thing you've
- 44:51ever tuned like in like you're like, this is kind of different
- 44:54or do you just always is. What is it always just race
- 44:57cars? Mostly race cars.
- 45:03I'd definitely like to stick to more like standalone EC US and
- 45:06stay away from like. You know, like a Honda.
- 45:09Newer cars. Everyone comes in and just wants
- 45:12you to turn off all their emissions codes, and that's.
- 45:14That's getting. Sketchier and sketch.
- 45:16And I'm like, I don't do that. No.
- 45:18Yeah, someone comes. Oh, this other shop wouldn't
- 45:20turn my P4420 off for my Hatters.
- 45:24That no one would have cats, you know?
- 45:26And it's like, now you can. Is that getting harder and
- 45:28harder to do with the new EC US? It's getting restricted more.
- 45:33Yeah 'cause I know. I think Cobb doesn't let you do
- 45:35that anymore or something. Like that?
- 45:37No, they they don't. They they got, they kind of got.
- 45:40Super. Like, yeah, yeah, they did.
- 45:42They showed up at their facility and that's why they don't sell
- 45:45any more catalyst downpipes or anything like that.
- 45:47Yeah. Because even that off road use
- 45:49only doesn't really doesn't. Really fly anymore?
- 45:53It's it sucked for us, 'cause we had a customer come in like less
- 45:57than a year ago and I was like, oh.
- 45:59Yeah. Yeah, yeah, You just get the
- 46:00downpipe and the stage two tune and all this, put it on and go
- 46:05plug in the access port. It's like, oh, there's no stage
- 46:06two. I'm like, what do you mean
- 46:07there's no stage two? How do you how are you supposed
- 46:09to? I got your downpipe with the cat
- 46:12and they're just like, yeah, we just don't make it.
- 46:14So I had to get a dyno tuned. Yeah, I'm like, shit, that kind
- 46:17of sucks. Yeah, they're just reducing
- 46:20their liability. That's what I'm that's what I'm
- 46:22saying. That's what I'm afraid of.
- 46:23For the future is like that tunability that like freedom
- 46:27that I guess we have the newer cars.
- 46:30I feel like it doesn't offer that.
- 46:33Not nearly as much. It's way more complicated like
- 46:37certain newer cars. I mean if that's got to be
- 46:39pretty much the only thing you spend all your time on or you'll
- 46:42never get good at it. It's just it's too much to try
- 46:46and just it's again, I think a lot of people think you plug in
- 46:49and it's the same. Oh, fuel table ignition table.
- 46:51But it is. Not, no.
- 46:53What does it look like now? It's like circles.
- 46:55Stocky. CU just like the rectangle or.
- 46:57Just like the like you don't have those tables at all in
- 47:01newer like it's the same the big three like Stalanis, Dodge, Ford
- 47:06and GM. They don't have those tables
- 47:10like it. They have like virtual tables.
- 47:15It'll just real time calculate what needs to happen based on
- 47:18the angle of the flapper and the intake manifold or the angle of
- 47:21the variable Cam, the load, the Barrow.
- 47:24Like, you know, 20 different sensors that it's picking
- 47:28exactly what it needs to do in that scenario.
- 47:31It's going off of a completely different set of data.
- 47:34Now which? Is not like a 3D table and it's
- 47:36like whoa 10 dimensions. See.
- 47:38I didn't know that. Oh, so there's just more
- 47:40variables to the to its programming I guess.
- 47:43Yeah, like even like a a coyote has like the first years of that
- 47:47all the way back to like what, 2012 or 13?
- 47:50I don't know. I don't too many of those of
- 47:52like 27 ignition tables based and they're ballparks for
- 47:56various different conditions and it just kind of interpolates
- 47:59between them for whatever it needs.
- 48:01Or like let's say you have a 370Z out here, you could open
- 48:04that up like three 50s. They have a burn time.
- 48:07They don't even have like an ignition advance.
- 48:09It's not even number of degrees of ignition advance, it's just
- 48:12some number that quantifies to an amount of time that it takes
- 48:16for the gas and fuel to to burn. So how the fuck do you tune
- 48:22that? You don't start from a known
- 48:24point and it just kind of like a lot of things like up revel
- 48:27convert it to an actual ignition table.
- 48:30Ecutech does the same type of thing.
- 48:31But even like a smarter you see like what's in the the 370's,
- 48:35you could go in and just put the wrong numbers in that table.
- 48:39And if you log in and watch the second the knock sensors pick
- 48:43anything up, I mean not even second, we're talking 200
- 48:46milliseconds of the log. You'll see it just go back to a
- 48:49different, like a lower number. That's correct.
- 48:51It's. Like it's compensate or
- 48:54compensating like thinking for itself.
- 48:56Yeah, I think you could. It's probably safe to say you
- 48:58could go in and put a way advanced ignition table into
- 49:02370, do a run and I don't. I don't know if you could blow
- 49:06it up like it would just it would say no, that's I mean.
- 49:09That's not right. Stop, stop, stop, Pull all the
- 49:11timing out and run what it thinks it should.
- 49:14I mean that is. That is cool though, because it
- 49:16means the engines should be better.
- 49:20Should definitely should make. It more reliable theory, yeah.
- 49:23And the same goes like it'll if you have an excessively low
- 49:26timing table, it will slowly learn up.
- 49:31You could in theory flash a tune on a car that makes less power
- 49:36Dino back-to-back. You know, lose 20 horsepower, go
- 49:38drive around and beat on it for a full full tank of gas or
- 49:42something. Put it back on the Dynamo,
- 49:43probably be back to where it was power wise.
- 49:45Before crazy Wow. I don't ever think about that
- 49:51kind of thing like the way that you just thought about that.
- 49:53I'm like, this might be broken. Try another time like.
- 49:59You did mention that earlier too.
- 50:00I think about like putting the wrong number in somewhere, but
- 50:02just in general like going kind of way back to like learning and
- 50:07being careful to not break anything.
- 50:09I think starting off you know I was way more gun shy and thought
- 50:13the the smallest wrong turn and going to nuke this engine.
- 50:17But the reality is engines put up with a lot.
- 50:22I mean it's. It's not good.
- 50:25He's telling me he's looking at me like, go ahead, man, I'm just
- 50:30kidding. There's a margin of error there
- 50:32for sure. Yeah.
- 50:33It's just. You don't want to do that to it,
- 50:36you know, Ideally, the less, the less abuse you put in on that
- 50:41engine setting it up, the better.
- 50:42You know you don't want to because like being there,
- 50:44blindly guessing, and like you're still adding wear.
- 50:47Like, I'm that kid. Tank the whole thing Like one
- 50:50bad pull most likely. I mean, you could, but.
- 50:53Probably not. Maybe I'm not a kid now, but I
- 50:54I'm that kid who's like, what's it going to take for me to St.
- 50:58Drive this to the tune like so I could just get there, You know
- 51:01what I mean? You know how many times?
- 51:02I'm sure you probably run into that A bunch of times.
- 51:04Dude, you got Jay-Z. You probably just plug that
- 51:05thing in and start it. You'll be all right.
- 51:07Probably. That's how I feel with Jay ZS
- 51:09lately. They run on.
- 51:11They are pretty remarkable on what they'll just be fine with,
- 51:14dude. We put the Jay-Z in Miyagi's
- 51:16car. We were like, all right, let's
- 51:19let's make some. Let's put some time ahead for
- 51:21some. All the problems we're going to
- 51:22have and we go to start, I can't just call Andy, be like, yeah,
- 51:24we're going to go to the tune, start it up, fucking runs
- 51:28totally fine. On the Power FC.
- 51:30Yeah, immediately. I'm like, what?
- 51:31And then we drove it. I remember we drove it down the
- 51:33street and I was like, I don't even know if we need a tune, but
- 51:36I guess we got to get a tune like that's.
- 51:38How we tune it at first. No, we were just like this car
- 51:41runs totally fine, but you do that with a 240 with an Sr.,
- 51:45we'd be lucky if it idles. What about the gauges?
- 51:47They were reading all the right data, yeah.
- 51:48It was weird, yeah. Yeah, that's giving me hope.
- 51:51Because I hope one day when I put that, put that in there that
- 51:54that same thing happens to. Me and then you bring it to Andy
- 51:57and he tells you he made 300 something horsepower and.
- 51:58You're like whoa, sick sick. That's all dude.
- 52:01I. Was just telling him outside.
- 52:03I was like, I've never had anything over.
- 52:05Yeah, anything. Neither did Miyagi.
- 52:07Dude, I'm fucking ready dude. Yeah.
- 52:10I'm I I'm going to be at the Burger King drive through.
- 52:12Just talking and now he does mobile tuning.
- 52:15So like we did a. Yeah, I want to ask about that.
- 52:17We we had, we tuned wags this car at the track and yeah, yeah,
- 52:22that was pretty cool. I'd like to do more of that.
- 52:25Seems a lot of people come from this area.
- 52:26So yeah, like find a central, a more central location.
- 52:30Is that still OK down there or you think they're giving them
- 52:32problems with the? Noise, I think it's OK.
- 52:34I haven't talked to to Chris recently about it, but.
- 52:36I don't. I don't think it's a problem.
- 52:38Yeah, once the weather gets better, probably.
- 52:40E Town will probably be the spot for tuning now.
- 52:43What do you? What?
- 52:44Where is that like, a common thing?
- 52:45I've seen them at like shows where they're like, yeah, $20 a
- 52:48dyno run or whatever. That is so cheap.
- 52:50You know what I mean? I don't know.
- 52:52But you know, just to get like the power or like they'll like
- 52:55run it on. The get the reading, yeah.
- 52:56I did a so that was the E Town weekend, was the one weekend I
- 53:00did of going somewhere and tuning on the road or remote or
- 53:06mobile whatever, and I did one car show and I did one car meet
- 53:11at another local shop just doing runs like that.
- 53:13That's what you're you. So you're using it not just for
- 53:16tuning, or you're literally using it for what I mentioned.
- 53:19Yeah, I'd like to just kind of open up another revenue stream.
- 53:21Even though, like I've been pretty as busy as I can get on
- 53:24weekends throughout the summer tuning.
- 53:26But I have a friend that does a lot of Rd. racing and he brought
- 53:30up how they have the hardest time getting a diner there.
- 53:32Because all of the all the road racing guys they need, you know,
- 53:36they're all their classes are restricted by power to wait.
- 53:38So they need to they weigh their cars and Dino to pass compliance
- 53:43for, yeah, for the race. We should do that for the car
- 53:46track. I wish they would, honestly.
- 53:48But. No, we're not doing, no.
- 53:50One ever does that for drifting. They're like, oh, fuck it,
- 53:52whatever, Yeah, your tire size is right.
- 53:54It's OK you're in the. Car.
- 53:56It's like what? It's so subjective though, you
- 53:58know what I mean? Like it's.
- 53:59Not if you have a power fucking like oh, you cannot be over 350
- 54:03horsepower like. I mean that that scales at FD.
- 54:06You come off the track, you have to you get pulled randomly.
- 54:10They do go over the scales. But weight and tire, right?
- 54:13With FD, yeah, they they check a few things, which is good to
- 54:16make sure, like you're not, yeah, cheating.
- 54:19I think the weight to tire ratio thing is the best, basically the
- 54:25best thing you could do other than the horsepower thing.
- 54:26I feel like that is the best way to make sure everything's fair,
- 54:31because if you know, if you can't have a certain tire size,
- 54:33you could have a Miata but with 1000 horsepower.
- 54:36But you need to have a certain tire size because your car
- 54:38doesn't weigh that much, yeah. And if you're ever bored, check
- 54:40out some of the the regulations on different NASA groups because
- 54:43there's chassis specific stuff. There's all there's it gets very
- 54:46nitty gritty. It's all kinds of little stuff.
- 54:48But then in that nitty gritty, there's like little It's crazy
- 54:54what some people will come up with, like to take maximize just
- 54:59how much you can get out of that fucking little car within a set
- 55:03of regulation. We'll take a hit in one place
- 55:05because it's going to help their specific setup in another way.
- 55:08So pick and choose what kind of things they're going to take a
- 55:12weight hit for, ballast the car a little differently or add
- 55:14weight. And, you know, pick and choose
- 55:16which things that they're. You know, maybe they'll run a
- 55:19different type of tire, like a Toyo instead of a Hoosier,
- 55:21because they can run a little bit more horsepower and this
- 55:23track is more long straights where they're going to benefit
- 55:27more from having the extra power than hurt from a little less
- 55:31grip in the turns or whatever. Damn, I love saying who's you,
- 55:35dude? It's such a cool tire name.
- 55:37Like, yeah, you you. Andy, how did how did you get so
- 55:42fucking smart? How did this happen like?
- 55:45Well, I think it's just, you know, if you spend enough time
- 55:48doing a certain thing like, you know, for talking in my
- 55:50wheelhouse, like people always say that about tuning knowledge
- 55:53or something like, well, I've been doing it for.
- 55:55Yeah. A couple decades, yeah.
- 55:57You kind of surround yourself. It'd be.
- 55:58Bad if I didn't sound like I knew what I was talking about.
- 56:01That would be scary. Yeah.
- 56:02Do you? Drift too, like are you in that
- 56:05space, are you? Is your space tuning and that's
- 56:08what you love. I before I where I work now.
- 56:11Before I started that job I had a couple a few different cars
- 56:15and I was at the track a few times but 2012 I stopped
- 56:20drifting going to the track. Then 2020 decided I'm going to
- 56:25start back up again, so I got a 350Z and it's been a lot of fun.
- 56:29The thing's a tank, so yeah, and if you need seat time, lowest
- 56:33dollar per lap, just get a 350Z. Yeah, I kind of agree with that.
- 56:37I drove one like once for real around Englishtown and I was
- 56:41like, this shit's fucking good to go and it's got not much done
- 56:44to it. Does like a full lap was in his
- 56:47car. I was there.
- 56:48You could. Cut the lock stops, you know,
- 56:51use the put an extension on the factory handbrake, maybe some
- 56:54project new shoes. For yeah, that's what they eat
- 56:56brake shoes and got them in stock.
- 57:00Yeah, that's. Plug plug plug plug plug plug.
- 57:03I got the drift one. Remember did you at Grange?
- 57:07Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Mine was a very early one.
- 57:10They. Didn't let you go in 3rd gear
- 57:12though. I don't care, it's still 8 like.
- 57:16Yeah, the rest of the track, yeah.
- 57:17Like really easy. That is not my car.
- 57:20The only thing I do have a gripe with a 350Z and it's because I
- 57:25got like, I got like claustrophobic.
- 57:29I get the window wouldn't go down all the way and so and it
- 57:32was this big of a window that the tire smoke like wasn't
- 57:36leaving quick enough. So I started to like, freak out
- 57:40and like, I couldn't see and I was like.
- 57:41Oh my God. I when I'm in AZI, feel like I
- 57:43am inside of something. Well, you know what I mean?
- 57:46Like very, very, like, yeah, like the doors here, the
- 57:50window's here. I'm like, I can't see.
- 57:52Like, I just dude, the doors are way too big.
- 57:54I feel like inside of there, Frankie.
- 57:56Like. This I don't.
- 57:59If you sit in like a a any Camaro Gen. 4.
- 58:02Up. Oh, don't.
- 58:03Even. And then you get back into this.
- 58:04You're like, oh, I can see everything.
- 58:05Oh wait, it's a. Normal car is.
- 58:07That like the Transformers Gen. Like where it's Gen. 5.
- 58:10Yeah, but Gen. Fours are, they have this, yeah.
- 58:14The, the the windshield, rear front and rear windshields are
- 58:17like, I don't know what kind of angle that is.
- 58:19They're just almost flat. It feels like you're literally
- 58:22in a tank looking through, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:25The Z feels like that a little bit, but I don't know.
- 58:27I have my seat as low as I can get it.
- 58:29I I don't know. I can barely see stuff, but I
- 58:31just. Yeah, I don't know what.
- 58:33Driving by sound. It is the windshield too.
- 58:35Driving. Completely.
- 58:37I'm just just. Driving by smell.
- 58:40Actually, I prefer that. Way I do spend like half of my
- 58:43time off of the track too, so you know, driving through the
- 58:46dirt and ruts. Oh, I thought you.
- 58:48Meant like 'cause for me I I I'm.
- 58:49Not just all over the infield, mow the mow the grass a little
- 58:52bit I. Know, sometimes now I find
- 58:54myself like, not on the track, but not 'cause I'm spinning off,
- 58:57but mainly 'cause I'm either like watching or like hanging
- 59:00out, or just like enjoying it as a whole, like that the whole
- 59:04drift event has to offer. You.
- 59:07Know what I mean? Like that.
- 59:08That's that's fun. God, I fucking miss the warmth,
- 59:12dude. I miss summer activities, dude.
- 59:14I'm over this. Do we all just move to Florida?
- 59:17No. It's the only.
- 59:18Place that's warm, apparently. Texas, maybe?
- 59:20We have some friends in the Discord who are from Tennessee
- 59:23and the time the the well what what time was it?
- 59:25Like 10:00 at night. I'm like what time, what's the
- 59:28what's the temperature over there?
- 59:29He's like, oh it's like 10°. I'm like, isn't it supposed to
- 59:32be hot? No.
- 59:33Yeah 'cause Texas right now is freezing cold.
- 59:36And I thought that. Place was supposed to be hot
- 59:37too. Yeah, but I checked Florida and
- 59:39it's hot in Florida, so it's global.
- 59:40Warming man, it might be OK, it is.
- 59:42Warm. Global warming.
- 59:43That's what it is. Yeah, but I thought global
- 59:45warming was supposed to make it warmer.
- 59:47Let's say they that's what it. Was it's called global warming?
- 59:50That was the original idea, but no.
- 59:52No, it's. Global cold, Yeah, they changed
- 59:54it to climate change. Just shifts around.
- 59:55That's crazy, bro. They're just trying to drive
- 59:58clothing sales up. I swear.
- 59:59To God. No.
- 1:00:01Well, if you think about it bro, like the weather app controls so
- 1:00:05much of us right now. I opened the weather.
- 1:00:08Malcolm thinks the government controls the weather.
- 1:00:09Was it you, Malcolm, or was it someone else?
- 1:00:11We talked about this. Yeah, I never said that, but I
- 1:00:13do believe it. Why?
- 1:00:16The cloud seeding. Yeah, like all that weird shit.
- 1:00:19Yeah, out there. Cloud Seed.
- 1:00:20I don't really believe that. Literally.
- 1:00:22But maybe it's. Real.
- 1:00:23I don't know. No, they.
- 1:00:24Can do that to some degree, yeah.
- 1:00:26Yeah. But I don't know if.
- 1:00:27But do they do it? I don't.
- 1:00:30To promote rainfall in place. Certain areas and stuff, yeah, I
- 1:00:33don't think that's. I don't know.
- 1:00:35There's got to be something they.
- 1:00:36Can do on a scale to. Change the climate on the Earth.
- 1:00:40I don't know what the benefit is of that.
- 1:00:42Yeah, I don't know. That's the thing I always doubt
- 1:00:44with some of those conspiracy theories.
- 1:00:45I'm like, ah, it's usually, I don't see the cost benefit.
- 1:00:49Yeah. You know.
- 1:00:50Yeah, exactly. It's to drive clothing sales up
- 1:00:52or something like winter clothes and like trucks and like salt.
- 1:00:56They need something to drive those truck sales up right now
- 1:00:58because no one wants to buy those trucks. $90,000 for for a
- 1:01:03truck is crazy. Any.
- 1:01:05Trucks, dude, like new trucks are fucking insane. 2023 Sequoia
- 1:01:09was 89 grand for that Top Model 1.
- 1:01:12It's crazy. I'm like what?
- 1:01:13That's the Top Model, Top Model of a Ford F-150 or F-250 is
- 1:01:17probably like 120 grand by this point.
- 1:01:19Yeah, it was a couple years ago. You could get the O350 or 450
- 1:01:23platinum or whatever maxed out over six figures, yeah.
- 1:01:28It's crazy. Because like the XLXLT whatever
- 1:01:30with the vinyl floors, the absolutely no options.
- 1:01:32They're pretty. They're still less than half.
- 1:01:34Yeah, yeah, they are less than half, but they're.
- 1:01:37Still, like, 50 crazy. What are we packing in there
- 1:01:39all? Kinds.
- 1:01:41Of a Bose stereo. Nice stuff, nice stuff.
- 1:01:44Seats. Vented seats.
- 1:01:45Those are great. Vented seats are my younger
- 1:01:49brother's like like benchmark for luxury.
- 1:01:52He's like my balls are cool. Yeah.
- 1:01:55That's a good. Way.
- 1:01:56What's cooler than what? What's, like, more luxurious
- 1:01:58than that? Like Tony's, he's got a 2015 at
- 1:02:01Freedom and we went to right after he got it.
- 1:02:05We towed his 48 foot enclosed 2 cars in it down to TX 2K in
- 1:02:11Houston and on the way back drove straight through all the
- 1:02:15way home, one shot just stopping for fuel.
- 1:02:18And I think it was the the smart cruise, the the hill descent.
- 1:02:24You know, you just set the speed, turn the air on the
- 1:02:27climb, you know, seats perfect. You're not sweating in the seat,
- 1:02:30you just drive for 26 hours straight.
- 1:02:34Those those things have like that.
- 1:02:35I don't think I could do that in mine.
- 1:02:37No. Big center console too, so
- 1:02:39you're not even touching elbows with your with your copilot
- 1:02:42like. You could doze off for a few
- 1:02:44minutes, it's probably fine, it'll.
- 1:02:45That's. Crazy.
- 1:02:47I mean, actually, yeah. Well, maybe not its intention,
- 1:02:50but like actually might be OK. So I look.
- 1:02:53I look for new trucks every day, and I never bought one.
- 1:02:54This is for the last seven years and I always, I always make sure
- 1:02:58I'm looking for the ones with the lane depart option, 'cause
- 1:03:00I'm like, whatever vibrates the seat or something.
- 1:03:03I was like I need that. That could be.
- 1:03:04A lifesaver You're dozing or something?
- 1:03:06Yeah, that would have helped me a lot.
- 1:03:08It she works nights. I was like kind of hype when she
- 1:03:11got something like that cause hers is a she has a CRV and the
- 1:03:13wheel like or it'll go obviously like, yeah.
- 1:03:17But like it, it will. Once I heard it vibrated the
- 1:03:19seat, I was like, I need that 'cause sometimes on the way back
- 1:03:21from final bout and I'll just be, you know, a little little
- 1:03:25snooze. Or the whole?
- 1:03:26Cabin is awake and then except for the driver, we're asking him
- 1:03:30like, yo, like, do you need somebody else to drive?
- 1:03:33Like we're all we're. All.
- 1:03:34Shake me a little. Oh, OK, and I'm back on.
- 1:03:37The road I think what you want isn't like a little wheel
- 1:03:39vibration. You need the one where it's
- 1:03:41like, it's like, oh, veering out of the lane.
- 1:03:43The chair is fully going to just like.
- 1:03:45Yeah, that would be sick. Oh, that would be sick.
- 1:03:47Like. That's what you need.
- 1:03:49I know that's what you want too. Like you don't want the little
- 1:03:51vibration like now Max Max. Yeah.
- 1:03:54No, that would be good. During any of the newer cars,
- 1:03:57actually detect when you're tired.
- 1:03:58Like little coffee. No little coffee model display.
- 1:04:01What? How does it?
- 1:04:02Know. Like pull over?
- 1:04:04All over. Get a Take a break, drink a
- 1:04:06coffee. For me, if I saw you.
- 1:04:08Is that everyone? To do.
- 1:04:10Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 1:04:10Like, I think BMW has a little. I think Mercedes.
- 1:04:13A coffee Mer with some. Maybe it's it's it's German
- 1:04:15luxury car. Yeah, the first time I saw it,
- 1:04:17I'm I'm pretty sure. Coffee, Bitch, I don't drink
- 1:04:19coffee. How about that?
- 1:04:20Yeah. But I want to.
- 1:04:22Tell me what the fuck to do. Yeah, yeah, fuck.
- 1:04:25That's crazy, I know. Halden, a friend of another
- 1:04:28friend of mine fucking told me about this thing in Chevy called
- 1:04:31like Hyper Cruise or something like that.
- 1:04:34Hyperspace. No, it's a Towing Cruise
- 1:04:38control. Is that what you were
- 1:04:39referencing before Smart Cruise? Something like that.
- 1:04:43I don't know if it's that fancy. But but you mean like towing
- 1:04:45with cruise? Control cruise, Yeah, And like
- 1:04:47the tax, if you're getting close to a car, you know, you think
- 1:04:49you 70, but there's enough cars around.
- 1:04:51Everyone seems to be driving 69 and 71 miles an hour.
- 1:04:53So just like just have to incrementally speed up and
- 1:04:56stuff. It's just it does like an auto
- 1:04:58cruise where it'll adjust when you're catching up to somebody.
- 1:05:00But when you're loaded down like, I feel like I drive my
- 1:05:03truck a little differently. When I'm trailing something
- 1:05:06like, I'm not like. Whoop.
- 1:05:08Like, you know what I mean? Like I'm not like kickdown
- 1:05:10method this thing so. It knows you have a trailer on.
- 1:05:13It that's what I'm. Asking.
- 1:05:14Oh, it would also, yeah, like for the hill descent stuff, it
- 1:05:16has an exhaust brake and so if you have that turned on, you're
- 1:05:21going downhill and you're gaining speed.
- 1:05:22It actually it turns. It's got a Jake.
- 1:05:24Brake, exhaust, Brake on. It'll down the shake you're.
- 1:05:27Not a Jake Jake Brake, but. Yeah, not.
- 1:05:29Quite not. It doesn't actually change the
- 1:05:31exhaust valve timing. Ah shit it doesn't.
- 1:05:32Just an exhaust brake. Just fucking like kind of like
- 1:05:36it. But it's.
- 1:05:36Not as cool, it's not. That loud.
- 1:05:38That. 'D be good enough for me, dude.
- 1:05:40Could you explain to me and the listeners how a real launch
- 1:05:44control or rather two step system works?
- 1:05:46Because I know a lot of people think it's just like some simple
- 1:05:50thing you can do in the tune. Like all the street takeover
- 1:05:52kids, they want the two step thing, but they don't realize.
- 1:05:55That is that still people like. That stuff like generally from
- 1:06:00like the most basic standpoint, I guess like any of the anti
- 1:06:02like stuff you're looking basically at reducing, reducing
- 1:06:07timing, maybe sending some extra fuel through the exhaust.
- 1:06:11You're just looking at generating heat, turbo heat
- 1:06:14drives a turbo. Yeah, the more you retard your
- 1:06:17timing, you're taking heat out of the what would normally be
- 1:06:21going into the, you know, the chamber and the water cooling of
- 1:06:24the engine. You're sending it out the
- 1:06:25exhaust instead so more heat spins the turbo up.
- 1:06:29You can even see that, say starting a base tune, you have
- 1:06:33it just deliberately like 5 or 6°.
- 1:06:35Low on timing, you might overshoot boost by several PSI.
- 1:06:40Add the timing in, make more power at lower boost.
- 1:06:43The boost will, you know the amount of boost it'll make on
- 1:06:47the same wastegate setting can vary just by how much time you
- 1:06:50have in the engine. If it's too low or not.
- 1:06:51OK. So it's that kind of concept
- 1:06:53where and there's more to it with the timing of the ignition
- 1:06:57cut and all that, but? And when they talk about this
- 1:07:00stuff, I always think about, I always think about rally racing
- 1:07:04one like the real anti anti lag where it's like you let off the
- 1:07:07gas and but don't. Aren't those cars set up way
- 1:07:09different, where it's like pumping air into the system or
- 1:07:12something? Yeah, that's a secondary air
- 1:07:14injection and like so same type of concept except actually
- 1:07:19introducing fresh air into the exhaust manifold.
- 1:07:21So when you send that extra fuel out of the exhaust with the
- 1:07:25really high EG TS, you get actual combustion events
- 1:07:29happening in the exhaust manifold.
- 1:07:31Which would then make it like not lag.
- 1:07:32Is that why? Basically, yeah.
- 1:07:34You never knew that. Never seen people make those.
- 1:07:38They'll make they'll put like a fuel stack on a turbo maybe seat
- 1:07:41welded onto like a a heater exhaust pipe or something on a
- 1:07:46drum of some sort. What the?
- 1:07:48We'll take an old air tank. I think I've put a tube out of
- 1:07:51that into the turbine. I was thinking of a turbo and
- 1:07:53then the outlet of the turbo goes back into the tank.
- 1:07:55Then you just burn coal or wood or whatever in it and you can
- 1:07:58actually, if you do it right, you can get the turbo to run
- 1:08:01like a jet engine, feeding itself from just a fire from a
- 1:08:04fuel to a fuel stack. What the fuck?
- 1:08:07You know, take that concept, It's a little jet engine, more
- 1:08:11or less. So if you fuel it, it doesn't
- 1:08:13need anything else other than hot air spinning the turbine,
- 1:08:18and it's going to recycle that. It's compressed air.
- 1:08:21Feed the turbine with even higher air density like you
- 1:08:26could run like with especially the secondary air injection.
- 1:08:30I mean, theoretically if you had an ignition source and a fuel
- 1:08:33source that was feeding in the exhaust, I mean you wouldn't be.
- 1:08:35You don't have to have a running engine to make the turbo.
- 1:08:37Yeah, yeah. You're just spinning the turbo
- 1:08:39kind of. And that's just so when you're
- 1:08:41off the throttle, the turbo is spinning at like full power.
- 1:08:45Yeah, so you could be off throttle and there's different
- 1:08:48ways, you know the secondary air injection that's more or less
- 1:08:51like a bypass instead of a blow off valve.
- 1:08:53It just reverts any pressurized air from the compressor side
- 1:08:57into the exhaust manifold. You're basically just using the
- 1:08:59engine to just throw hot air and fuel into the turbo and try to
- 1:09:06generate that combustion events in the in the exhaust.
- 1:09:08Manifold. Because you'll you'll come back
- 1:09:11on throttle then, and it's the turbo's like the shaft speed's
- 1:09:14going to be right up there, whatever it needs to be.
- 1:09:16For so you can do that minus the secondary air system.
- 1:09:20You can kind of make the engine do that.
- 1:09:22Are you kind of like making it have a load on itself, but.
- 1:09:24You could do it with drive by wire too, or a throttle kicker.
- 1:09:29Even if it's drive by cable some of the easier cheaper.
- 1:09:32They don't work quite as well as an actual, you know, air
- 1:09:35injection system, but if you just kick the throttle open
- 1:09:40while the engines on D cell. Yeah.
- 1:09:43You can't have it have the normal ignition and fuel would
- 1:09:46be the same as stepping on the throttle.
- 1:09:47But yeah, you do like a cyclic ignition cut, like a cyclic
- 1:09:51idle, like a lot of those cars have.
- 1:09:53'Cause my friend was talking about, he wanted to get his, he
- 1:09:55wanted to get this on a Subaru. And I was like, so it's kind of
- 1:09:58like it's kind of like brake boosting but not having to brake
- 1:10:01boost maybe? Like, yo, that's what I was
- 1:10:03thinking too. Degree.
- 1:10:04Yeah, yeah. And when you said when you're
- 1:10:06off throttle it's like stabbing the gas.
- 1:10:08I'm I'm all I'm thinking is of when you put the clutch in
- 1:10:11you're pulling the handbrake and you're going boom boom boom boom
- 1:10:13boom boom boom boom boom boom Oh yeah you're keeping the dump and
- 1:10:17that's spinning this one I'm. Thinking you're putting load on
- 1:10:20the engine maybe? Or no?
- 1:10:22I don't know. So not it's so much like some of
- 1:10:24them do, like they'll just cut a certain cylinder out of the
- 1:10:27spark pattern. You just have a cyclic ignition
- 1:10:30cut. That's just cutting a different
- 1:10:32cylinder each time through the engine cycle of something like
- 1:10:34that, one or two or three whatever to you get the engine
- 1:10:38to D cell. So you're not getting like a
- 1:10:40runaway condition where you're all that.
- 1:10:43It's effectively like having the throttle open still, but
- 1:10:45limiting the engine by some other factor than the throttle.
- 1:10:49I mean into that degree you can also like if you go in and say
- 1:10:53floor a car and just reduce the timing advance, you will
- 1:10:57theoretically you'll get to a point where it just won't Rev
- 1:10:59any higher because you have the ignition so low.
- 1:11:01Either a stab the CAS a tooth or two.
- 1:11:05You know you're saying you get to the point where you can floor
- 1:11:07the car and it just Revs super slow because it has no timing in
- 1:11:11it. Then you'll have the exhaust
- 1:11:13manifold glowing red instantly. How would you activate?
- 1:11:16Yeah, I've been there before. How would you activate something
- 1:11:19like that while you're driving the car?
- 1:11:21Like to? They'll usually work with the
- 1:11:26detect D cell like you. Could do this shit
- 1:11:29automatically. So like every EFI system, pretty
- 1:11:33much every you know when you lift off the throttle and your
- 1:11:35engine braking, it turns the fuel injectors off.
- 1:11:37It just knows at this much vacuum and this low of throttle
- 1:11:41in this RPM window, like above the idle area, turn the
- 1:11:44injectors off because it's just engine braking anyway.
- 1:11:46So you could detect it in that same kind of method, or clutch
- 1:11:51or clutch switch or a combination, a combination of
- 1:11:54things. A lot of those cars, if you're
- 1:11:56thinking like WRC cars, they don't have a clutch switch
- 1:11:58really. I mean, they do, but you're not
- 1:12:00clutching when you're down shifting.
- 1:12:01It's shifting up very much. Yeah, usually it'll have
- 1:12:04sequentials. Dude, I wish I could drive a
- 1:12:06rally. Car there is that whole era like
- 1:12:08a tuning phenomenon, Cuz now that's like 80s, OK?
- 1:12:14I'm thinking like the ones when I was.
- 1:12:15Growing Up group. B like, yeah, that's that's what
- 1:12:17I'm thinking. I don't know when you say rally
- 1:12:19and anti lag. I don't think of anything else
- 1:12:22except for Group B and I'm hearing and like.
- 1:12:25Yeah, I just think of. Like like again.
- 1:12:27Like again and again. Early 2000s when I was watching
- 1:12:29like rally racing, I always think about.
- 1:12:31Yeah, it's the same error I think of.
- 1:12:33Yeah, but same. Kind of shit, I'm sure.
- 1:12:37MacKinnon. Yeah.
- 1:12:38And like Colin McCray type Subaru that sound like and it's
- 1:12:42always like at a hairpin or something because you hear it
- 1:12:45like yeah, they pull a handbrake and then they're off and then
- 1:12:48you that's when you hear it or. You hear it when they hit a
- 1:12:50jump, little jump. As a kid I didn't know what the
- 1:12:52fuck that was. And then I knew it's anti lag.
- 1:12:55And now that I know what kind of causes the anti lag, now I'm
- 1:12:57like, oh, I kind of get why fire comes out.
- 1:13:01Yeah, yeah, yeah. 'Cause it's literally
- 1:13:02combusting, yeah. Turbo Smart makes a special
- 1:13:05valve for doing secondary ear injection now and even like you
- 1:13:09mentioned somebody adding on a Subaru, definitely Evo's, I
- 1:13:13think Subarus also they came equipped with that hardware in
- 1:13:16Japan. What they have this there's like
- 1:13:19an extra vacuum like for an Evo, there's an extra vacuum can
- 1:13:22underneath of the manifold and it has a solenoid that controls
- 1:13:26it. So and there's some piping that
- 1:13:30runs around. You can actually see it on every
- 1:13:31Evo. In the US, between runners 1:00
- 1:13:33and 2:00 and 3:00 and 4:00, there's there's this weird flat
- 1:13:35spots that's actually they're drilled out and have banjo bolts
- 1:13:39in them. In.
- 1:13:40Japan. For homologation reasons they
- 1:13:42have it on OE cars in some. Countries ohk.
- 1:13:44OK, so. It's not.
- 1:13:45It's not. Sort of like.
- 1:13:47But it's but almost. There for on from the factory,
- 1:13:49but tape, like those guys doing the open source ECU stuff on the
- 1:13:53Evos back in the day on Evo M, they found those tables.
- 1:13:57They actually have like an air tank that's there too.
- 1:14:00Yeah, so it fuck yeah off bottle.
- 1:14:02It'll dump stored compressed air from that tank.
- 1:14:05So. City exhaust manifold.
- 1:14:06I want to hear Evo now. I know that dude.
- 1:14:08I like Evos, but The thing is, is I can't Yo shout out Johnny
- 1:14:11Evo fanatic. Yeah, he probably.
- 1:14:13Knows about this. Shit, he definitely knows about
- 1:14:15this. We have a friend named Johnny.
- 1:14:16He's just this like, spirit that just floats around.
- 1:14:19Dude, He. Lives in the Mountains Bear
- 1:14:20Mountain area. Whoa.
- 1:14:22Whoa. Well, that's not where he is.
- 1:14:24Yeah, he's never there. Yeah, there's another one, but
- 1:14:27dude, he's there every. I'll go hiking on the weekend
- 1:14:29and I'll just, I'll, I'll go up and I'll just see Johnny asleep
- 1:14:32in his car. Waiting like.
- 1:14:34What are you doing up here, Cars?
- 1:14:35Cooling. Down always doing some runs.
- 1:14:37Like dude, that's all he does. So, but it's pretty sick.
- 1:14:41He knows everything about Evos. That's our Evo guru.
- 1:14:43I wish he was here to hear like all May.
- 1:14:46Hopefully hear it. Yeah, yeah, that's crazy, man.
- 1:14:49Yeah, anti lag is sick, but all the kids want now is just.
- 1:14:53They just wanted to make a. Loud.
- 1:14:54They just want the noise, yeah. Yeah, I don't pop bangs, flame
- 1:14:57tunes. I don't ever do any of those.
- 1:14:59Yeah. Thank.
- 1:15:00God. Yeah, what most.
- 1:15:01Of the times the emails we get. Like who the flame tune on my 20
- 1:15:05flame? Bro, yeah.
- 1:15:07Don't reply. Block.
- 1:15:08I mean, dude, we get phone calls almost every week.
- 1:15:12I would say I just realized I we haven't even delved into
- 1:15:14probably what the kind of shit you run into on a daily basis
- 1:15:17now. Yeah, they're.
- 1:15:17Always looking for those tunes. I just feel like that's the
- 1:15:20thing, verbal. Tune.
- 1:15:21Verbal tune. That's.
- 1:15:22What they call. It verbal.
- 1:15:23Tune verbal tunes. Why does that?
- 1:15:25Even that even that just sounds fucking horrible.
- 1:15:28Sounds broken. Why?
- 1:15:29Why do you even wanna I'll? Tell you who did it, It's BMW.
- 1:15:33That's the. Those are the because B.
- 1:15:35MB MW programmed like after fire in their stock tunes.
- 1:15:40Like fucking 10 years ago. Maybe more than 10 years ago
- 1:15:43now. But I remember the second you'd
- 1:15:45let off the throttle, you'd hear like a little, like a little
- 1:15:48little thing. And I've looked into it, and it
- 1:15:50was programmed from the factory to do that to, like, add some
- 1:15:53exhaust noise, I guess. And I was like, OK, so I'm gonna
- 1:15:57blame them because the second you put an exhaust on one of
- 1:15:59those cars, you really hear it. I think people just want to
- 1:16:02emulate that. Yeah.
- 1:16:04Anti legs now, yeah, you know they want to fake the funk.
- 1:16:07Yeah. I mean like some car.
- 1:16:09Again, add to Frankie's point that came in that my roommate
- 1:16:12has was the first car that I heard where it wasn't a BMW and
- 1:16:19it does it really aggressively. Really.
- 1:16:21Yeah. Like from the factory.
- 1:16:23From the factory it has the Porsche exhaust, the it's the
- 1:16:27valved exhaust where you could like switch it to loud and quiet
- 1:16:30or whatever on loud you you know how far my driveway is from
- 1:16:35driveway to corner. If it's accelerating from that
- 1:16:39distance to there and you decell, it doesn't so loudly
- 1:16:43already. Like it's like so.
- 1:16:45They're they're obviously doing it from the factory now.
- 1:16:47It sounds a little different though.
- 1:16:48I fog with it, yeah. It's cool.
- 1:16:50I mean a lot of it's they just tune the D cell areas like turn
- 1:16:54the D cell fuel off kind of a lot of times like we were
- 1:16:56talking about how fuel injectors are off on D cell.
- 1:16:59If you leave them on and just retard the timing a lot in that
- 1:17:02area of the map where you're under high vacuum, it'll you'll
- 1:17:05do that. It'll bang a lot, really badly.
- 1:17:08Is that bad for it technically? I mean it's not yeah it's not
- 1:17:13helping anything. Can't really do it with a with
- 1:17:16with having a factory catalyst overheated so and that would
- 1:17:21also that would. Also.
- 1:17:24Yeah. So it's really, you know, I I
- 1:17:26like, I always think of it as like you know the EPA really
- 1:17:29shut down diesel tuning. I feel like rolling coal was a
- 1:17:32big factor and I had a lot of those videos went viral.
- 1:17:35People like rolling coal on a group of people dining in, you
- 1:17:39know, on. The lawn.
- 1:17:40I know exactly where you're going.
- 1:17:41You know what I mean? It's nothing.
- 1:17:44It's a big red flag that says I'm defeating, you know, factory
- 1:17:49emissions equipment. Please catch me.
- 1:17:51And the whole point is, you know, get it drawing attention
- 1:17:53to yourself. You're drawing attention to the
- 1:17:55one thing that we really want to be on egg shells about right
- 1:17:58now. Which?
- 1:17:58Is I don't even know what the creating emissions update is on
- 1:18:01that last time I looked into that was like over a year ago
- 1:18:03but I know they were doing some they were in court and all this
- 1:18:06for the with the EPA and. Yeah, there's a lot.
- 1:18:08If you check SEMA, yeah there's a long.
- 1:18:12Ago. They're the ones that were
- 1:18:13involved with it, I guess. It was SEMA.
- 1:18:15They're trying to fight it, yeah.
- 1:18:16So there's a whole. What do you call that?
- 1:18:20Collecting petitions petition. Yeah, because they they want to
- 1:18:24lock it down to the point, like if the car ever came with a VIN
- 1:18:26number, it's a streetcar, can't do anything.
- 1:18:29Yeah, it was scary shit. Like kill the industry stuff.
- 1:18:33Yeah. No, that's and I.
- 1:18:35Don't think driving around backfiring randomly is like
- 1:18:38helping, helping anything, no. Not at all.
- 1:18:40I don't know anything that's going on in that space, but I do
- 1:18:43know enough where I'm like that's why I ask about what do
- 1:18:46you think is going to happen in the future.
- 1:18:48Because even that right there, I didn't really know a lot about
- 1:18:50it and know Sema's involvement in it, I didn't know anything
- 1:18:53about that. But I do know it is would kill
- 1:18:56industry, kill hobby. It would be just like a part of
- 1:19:03our memory, maybe if that was happened, maybe not in our
- 1:19:06lifetime, I feel like, maybe not in our lifetime.
- 1:19:08Hopefully, or we find a way around it, like we find a way
- 1:19:10around most things. But still, I mean this country,
- 1:19:13we get all there's a lot of leniency with cars still and I
- 1:19:17feel like it's it could possibly, it could go away at
- 1:19:19any moment. Yeah, just by, yeah.
- 1:19:21If you just look by comparison at some other places, it's yeah,
- 1:19:25you do a lot more. I mean, you know, I'm not saying
- 1:19:27that I that I had, you know, don't abide by the law or the
- 1:19:32maybe that in any of my cars I've ever been inspected.
- 1:19:35The things that people get pulled over for in Canada, yeah,
- 1:19:38is insane. Too much like of a tire like
- 1:19:41that much? Yeah, the cars look looks
- 1:19:43lowered. Like Australian Malcolm, Jordos
- 1:19:46shout out Jordos self-proclaimed Australian Malcolm.
- 1:19:50He gets a ticket for having the tire.
- 1:19:54Just that far out in Australia dude.
- 1:19:56And it's like. Here, when it's by, they'd be
- 1:19:58like, is this stock? And if you like.
- 1:20:00It's by measurement like you. It's by fine, like 22
- 1:20:03millimeters. You you two $220.00 for you
- 1:20:05that's. They'll come and measure your
- 1:20:07headlights. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:20:08If you have coilovers, or you know even if it's vented,
- 1:20:12drilled, slotted brake rotors or anything you like, if you change
- 1:20:15anything related that could be a safety aspect of the car, you
- 1:20:19should, to get it resorted to be legal.
- 1:20:21I would have to go through, figure out how to leave that
- 1:20:23country. That's all I'd be trying to
- 1:20:24figure. Out I think there's I think it's
- 1:20:26like here where different states have different yeah rules or
- 1:20:28different counties. You know, yeah, so certain.
- 1:20:30Areas inside the same state here are different but.
- 1:20:33I think right now I'm in that hopefully I can just enjoy this
- 1:20:36as much as I can state. Yeah, man.
- 1:20:38Yeah, I I think about this shit often because I have a shot.
- 1:20:41Let's just get 11J experience, please.
- 1:20:45But I'm always just like, hopefully they just grandfather
- 1:20:47in old cars. Like I I keep telling myself
- 1:20:50that I'm like, maybe they'll just let the old car people do
- 1:20:53whatever. They want, they're like it's
- 1:20:54going to kill itself. Yeah, maybe.
- 1:20:56Yeah, right. Because I feel like they're
- 1:20:57going to fucking be here. Old car thing is like cars that
- 1:21:00precede the clean air. Act Exactly some. 1972.
- 1:21:04Motherfucker. Yeah, technically, if they
- 1:21:08really crack down on those laws that exist, they could restrict
- 1:21:12anything newer than like 70, oh, 72 or 74.
- 1:21:15I don't remember what it is. Well, in the cars we like.
- 1:21:17I'm beyond on the street. That's bad.
- 1:21:19No, no, no. Hopefully.
- 1:21:21OK, here's here's what I'd want to happen if this if this
- 1:21:24happened to us right now, you know we would be fucking what
- 1:21:28You know. You know in the Harley and the
- 1:21:30Davidsons documentary how they got like those street racing
- 1:21:32people that are building the cars on the low, low, But you
- 1:21:35know, that's us. Oh, great, we would be.
- 1:21:37Going to prison? We would be so fucking cool,
- 1:21:41man. Like instead of biker gangs, we
- 1:21:42just have Japanese, 90s, Japanese sports car gang.
- 1:21:45Yeah, but but then like, but then like all the American car
- 1:21:48people will be separate, but then they'll be like, shit,
- 1:21:50we're fighting for the same. Thing, dude.
- 1:21:52They'll let them get away with it somehow.
- 1:21:53They'll let the American cars get away.
- 1:21:55With, but then the American cars will be like.
- 1:21:56Yeah, I think worst case would be like they're just going to
- 1:21:59regulate harder with cars that are on the street registered
- 1:22:02actually putting in miles every year like you know MPA, if
- 1:22:06you're under 5000 miles you're. A mission exempt.
- 1:22:08I didn't even know about this. What is?
- 1:22:10That you're. A bad, calm.
- 1:22:11And he's a calm guy, bro. He's already looking at the pro.
- 1:22:14He's like, you know what? It probably might not even that
- 1:22:16be that. Bad you didn't.
- 1:22:18Break you're like. He's a half glass full guy.
- 1:22:20The world is. Over, I said.
- 1:22:22At this point in my age, I daily drive a diesel pick up anyway so
- 1:22:27the fun car stays on the track. Yeah, we're not like that.
- 1:22:30I'm not too worried about streetcar personally.
- 1:22:33Yeah, I feel like hopefully I start to think like that too,
- 1:22:37cuz it costs me more money to drive my toys on the street.
- 1:22:41Nah, that's more. Exposure.
- 1:22:43You could get hit by somebody like, that's what.
- 1:22:47That's kind of killed it for me. I was in a couple, I had car
- 1:22:49accidents as a passenger and I'm like, you know what, we don't
- 1:22:52need to go. Fast.
- 1:22:52Yeah, that's. I don't really speed on the
- 1:22:54road, but if I do I'm. I'm driving my car out on the
- 1:22:56street for a completely different reason.
- 1:22:58And it's just because I want to bring this thing that I work mad
- 1:23:02hard on on the street so everybody could fucking see it
- 1:23:05and suck my Dick. I mean, I mean just like take
- 1:23:08see it maybe, you know? Just see it.
- 1:23:10This is, yeah. I like driving cars on the
- 1:23:12street, I don't think. That's I don't know how you can
- 1:23:14enjoy your car is on the fucking ground in terms of.
- 1:23:17And what? It's not that low anymore.
- 1:23:20I don't know. It's really.
- 1:23:22High right now it's. High, but like I don't.
- 1:23:26Know. I used to enjoy it more, like in
- 1:23:27my hometown, kind of the middle of nowhere, lots of farmland.
- 1:23:30Yeah. Now it's like I just feel like
- 1:23:32when I get pulled over, hassled or something.
- 1:23:34I don't. Yeah, I'm scared to like.
- 1:23:36I feel like cops have been very lenient ever since COVID
- 1:23:38personally, but I also have not been St.
- 1:23:40Driving that's changed. A drift car.
- 1:23:41Yeah, Frankie. Yeah.
- 1:23:44You haven't driven like a modified car on the street in a
- 1:23:46minute. I have been doing 90 miles an
- 1:23:48hour in the fast lane every every day and no one's pulled me
- 1:23:51over yet It's. Weird.
- 1:23:52Hey, bring them in. Bring them over, yeah.
- 1:23:53No front plate, no inspection, No, no.
- 1:23:56Definitely no inspection. Like 3 years, none of my cars
- 1:23:59cruising around. Yeah, three years.
- 1:24:00No inspection stick. Ever had it?
- 1:24:02I don't. I don't think the cops really
- 1:24:03give a shit anymore right now. Well, it'll change, but.
- 1:24:06Here's here's what I do notice. I I get, I get pulled over.
- 1:24:11I don't know about anybody else with my standard practices.
- 1:24:15You know, keep your fucking hands.
- 1:24:17Yeah, I've never been that kind of person.
- 1:24:20But like, I I'm like this. I used to think this mattered,
- 1:24:23you know, Like, yeah, You remember?
- 1:24:25Like, yeah. I have friends that like they
- 1:24:26just take the key out immediately put on the
- 1:24:28dashboard, but they're usually doing like 140 miles an hour
- 1:24:30when they get pulled over, so. No, I just know, like, keep your
- 1:24:33hands right there if I'm gonna move.
- 1:24:35Yeah. Hey, I'm out of reach in my
- 1:24:36pocket. Is that cool?
- 1:24:39Is that OK? But.
- 1:24:41And then when he's done telling you, he'll be like, OK, so why
- 1:24:43do you have tents? Can I give you a ticket?
- 1:24:45But well, like I feel like now if I got caught St. drifting
- 1:24:47because now I I I find my brain wandering 'cause I'm like I'm
- 1:24:51about to have a one GI want to do criminal activity now I.
- 1:24:53Would definitely do that. Yeah.
- 1:24:55So then I'm like looking at spots and I'm like, what would I
- 1:24:58tell a cop now? Like he's.
- 1:25:00Probably not even going to catch you.
- 1:25:02He'll never. Catch you?
- 1:25:02He would, if he caught me and it was just, it would be just me
- 1:25:06and like another person because you need a spotter.
- 1:25:11Like what did he get out of here?
- 1:25:13He'll be like I saw, yeah, I saw you.
- 1:25:15I saw you racing. Yeah, I was testing something
- 1:25:18out. I wasn't and.
- 1:25:20Then your grand, I saw. You all right?
- 1:25:21Well, I wasn't. And then that's it.
- 1:25:23And then he just gives you a ticket for no front plate.
- 1:25:24America was built on doing stuff like this, buddy.
- 1:25:27Well before your time. I wouldn't.
- 1:25:28I don't. Know if you want to have that
- 1:25:29argument with him right there, but.
- 1:25:31I would. No, I wouldn't.
- 1:25:32You heard all the stories with Johnny getting pulled over and
- 1:25:34everything. I would never argue with a
- 1:25:35police officer. You're crazy.
- 1:25:36And Johnny just denies everything.
- 1:25:38Never. I've been in a I've been pulled
- 1:25:41over once. Where the kid we're driving?
- 1:25:44It was my first car. Where?
- 1:25:45My tuner little car? It was an Integra.
- 1:25:47The wheels were already orange. All the stickers on the back.
- 1:25:49Yup, be patient. I'm lowered all that key chain.
- 1:25:52And you were lowered on springs or?
- 1:25:53Something on the front only be real patient.
- 1:25:58This is my. Brake.
- 1:25:59Yeah, be patient. I'm lowered.
- 1:26:00But we're driving and like one of the very first times I ever
- 1:26:03got pulled over was because it wasn't even my fault.
- 1:26:06Like the passenger that had this huge banner on the front of like
- 1:26:11our me and Chris's like car. Group What was it then?
- 1:26:13It was called Royal Works. Shut the fuck up with an E Why
- 1:26:17has this? Not been known Malcolm boy.
- 1:26:19He knows about it. He knows.
- 1:26:20He knows about it. You know about.
- 1:26:21It wait, Royal works. I never knew about that Royal
- 1:26:23works. Where's Chris?
- 1:26:24Is Chris still here? He's got to be.
- 1:26:25Here. No, he's gone.
- 1:26:26He's gone. He left.
- 1:26:28What a fuck. He would have known about Royal
- 1:26:30Works, man, But Royal Works was like the very first.
- 1:26:32Like let's hang out in a parking lot and do nothing and be really
- 1:26:36do nothing with our lives for like an hour of a day.
- 1:26:39So we did. We did that.
- 1:26:40I had a huge banner we're driving past and this cop is
- 1:26:44just posted up in the median and the passenger looks at the cop
- 1:26:47as we're driving and goes really, really like sitting out
- 1:26:52in the median He. Just says.
- 1:26:53And the cop just pulls right out and I'm like.
- 1:26:57Why the? Fuck did you do that?
- 1:27:00That's like when. He got me a ticket.
- 1:27:01It was the one of the first tickets I ever got.
- 1:27:03For the banner. For the banner, where normally
- 1:27:06he probably wouldn't have. Yeah, sometimes I sometimes I
- 1:27:10tell people. Like, just fucking be respectful
- 1:27:12sometimes, I swear. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:15It takes like 1% to not be a. It takes no effort to just not.
- 1:27:21It's not going to cost you anything to be less of a Dick.
- 1:27:23Yeah, You know, I feel like some people forget that nowadays.
- 1:27:27I remember we got pulled over and Miyagi was in my passenger
- 1:27:29seat. We didn't get pulled over.
- 1:27:31The whole thing was fucking ridiculous as fuck.
- 1:27:34But you just said you got pulled over.
- 1:27:35Which one is it? I'll tell you the story.
- 1:27:36I think I already told the story on here.
- 1:27:38We're like, we are going to Formula D We had the trailer.
- 1:27:40I had to stop at the bank. I must have told this recently,
- 1:27:42I think. But we we pull into the bank.
- 1:27:45At the bank, there's cops everywhere.
- 1:27:47They have a speed. They have not even a speed
- 1:27:48thing. They're literally just, they're
- 1:27:51literally just pulling people over from their seatbelts and
- 1:27:53they have a fucking guy in the in the bushes like looking for
- 1:27:55people with no seatbelts. I'm like this is insane sting.
- 1:27:58Operation for. Seat belts.
- 1:28:01You have a sting operation at 9:00 in the morning for their
- 1:28:03own townspeople. I'm like, what the fuck is the
- 1:28:06logic here? So I pull.
- 1:28:08I'm like, OK, I pull in, I see all these cops.
- 1:28:10I'm like, OK, I just block all of them in 'cause I I have a
- 1:28:15trailer. I'm like, I'm taking these four
- 1:28:17spots right here. Get out, go to the bank, come
- 1:28:20back in, start pulling away. One of the cop walks.
- 1:28:24Hey, whoa, whoa whoa. I'm like, can I help you?
- 1:28:27He's like, yeah, License. I'm like, excuse me, He's like,
- 1:28:30oh, you weren't wearing your seat belt when you made that
- 1:28:32turn back there. I'm like, when what what are we
- 1:28:35doing, dude? The dumbest shit ever.
- 1:28:39I'm like, OK here And then right away, Miyagi's like, what the
- 1:28:43fuck is the problem? Like immediately.
- 1:28:45God. See.
- 1:28:46Fuck. Immediately he starts to give
- 1:28:47him the cop lip and he's like, actually, you know what?
- 1:28:49Give me your shit too. And he gives him his
- 1:28:51information. Miyagi gets a ticket for no seat
- 1:28:53belt. I get a ticket for.
- 1:28:55I don't even know what I think. The problem was that my
- 1:28:58passenger, when the cop asked him for his ID, wouldn't give
- 1:29:01it. That's another problem, yeah.
- 1:29:03Which you know, I mean after a few minutes of argument like he
- 1:29:06never gave it to. Him, I was going to say.
- 1:29:08Did it? Did he ever give it to him or
- 1:29:09no? No, you don't have to, I don't
- 1:29:10think. But either way, you're causing a
- 1:29:12problem. I was 19.
- 1:29:13My face was probably blood red, like just saying like dude, just
- 1:29:18fucking give him. Fucking.
- 1:29:20License. So anyway, I had to drop the
- 1:29:23trailer off the trailer didn't have its registration renewed or
- 1:29:27some shit, so I had to leave the trailer there, go to the DMV,
- 1:29:32renew my registration, get my truck inspected, come back, pick
- 1:29:36that up, and then go get Josh to leave his car from Staten Island
- 1:29:39and then go to Formula Drift just because they had a sting
- 1:29:42operation at the fucking bank. Yeah, for and for me.
- 1:29:45I'll be talking shit to the cop, but yeah, bro.
- 1:29:50I haven't been pulled over in a minute.
- 1:29:52Knock on fucking wood. I'm not.
- 1:29:54To me, they're just pirates. Like when I see that going on.
- 1:29:56Yeah, highways, they're just, they're just pirates.
- 1:29:58They're just robbing people and that's it.
- 1:29:59And it's legal. I'm like, this is fucking crazy.
- 1:30:03Don't you think that's crazy? Do you not think that's crazy?
- 1:30:05I mean, like to an extent, like sometimes you're.
- 1:30:07Stealing money from your own townspeople.
- 1:30:10You're not protecting anything. I.
- 1:30:11Feel like they're just there to protect everybody from like
- 1:30:13scumbags they know. But they're looking at
- 1:30:15seatbelts. Here's the.
- 1:30:16Here's an example like. Yeah, I mean, victimless,
- 1:30:20victimless crime. Yeah.
- 1:30:21Like, is it? I don't know.
- 1:30:24We'll say we didn't check you for your seat belt.
- 1:30:26We wouldn't have known you were driving with an unregistered
- 1:30:28trailer, you know? But is it?
- 1:30:31Does that? Really.
- 1:30:32Yeah, no, that's not how that works at least.
- 1:30:34It should. Is that serving the?
- 1:30:35General public That's not. That's not how it should work in
- 1:30:37this country, at least. Like maybe Canada, but not here.
- 1:30:41Like what is that? One of my favorite times to get
- 1:30:44pulled over. I mean, even if you're.
- 1:30:46Not necessary. Even if you're going to talk
- 1:30:47about speeding like speed trap, I don't agree with speed traps
- 1:30:50either, but at least they make a little bit more sense.
- 1:30:52Like you're you're going a crazy speed.
- 1:30:55You know, you're you're endangering people.
- 1:30:57This guy's hiding in a Bush with binocular.
- 1:31:01Oh, he's got no seat belt. Pull him over.
- 1:31:02Like for fucking. If I get in an accident, I'm
- 1:31:06going to get hurt. No one else is.
- 1:31:08I'm. I'm no seat belt on.
- 1:31:09I'm gonna get hurt. Yeah.
- 1:31:11Like why do you have to do? To anyone else.
- 1:31:12It's so. Weird.
- 1:31:14But even speed, they always like, live and die with that.
- 1:31:15Like speed is what kills. Yeah, there's there's whole
- 1:31:18countries that a lot of their major highways don't have speed
- 1:31:22limits. In Germany, you can drive as
- 1:31:25fast as you want and any if you're near the city or
- 1:31:29something, you know, there's a lot of traffic.
- 1:31:31Those areas have speed limits. Yeah, in between.
- 1:31:34See the circle with the three you know, Gray hash marks, no
- 1:31:38speed limit, and as. Fast as you want and they have
- 1:31:41one fucking rule. Move the fuck over.
- 1:31:44And everybody moves. Over and everyone moves.
- 1:31:46Over people know how to get on and off the highway.
- 1:31:48But here in America, no one knows that.
- 1:31:50The right lane doing 150. Being careless, not paying
- 1:31:54attention and being on your phone, that's as dangerous.
- 1:31:57Or more, that's what's. More dangerous?
- 1:31:58Yeah, for sure, but. Yeah, over there though, you
- 1:32:01know, even if you get caught speeding, it's like €10 per like
- 1:32:0510 mph over you. Know something like that?
- 1:32:08And if you get caught going 40 over, it'd be like the
- 1:32:11equivalent of like less than the service fees and all that BS
- 1:32:16they slap on tickets here. What the fuck is that?
- 1:32:19A $15 speeding tickets? Like $120.00.
- 1:32:22Have you been to Europe? Yeah, I've.
- 1:32:25Been all over for my job, so yeah, I'd like I left some.
- 1:32:28It's town in central Germany, like Erfurt.
- 1:32:31I was driving down to Munich couple hour drive and I was in
- 1:32:35AI. Had a Jetta wagon TDI and just
- 1:32:39absolutely flat on the throttle for like 2 hours straight dude.
- 1:32:43Just like I wish I had like a day long for that easy to be
- 1:32:46like. I averaged 98% throttle for two
- 1:32:50hours. The car would go 220 kilometers
- 1:32:53an hour downhill, just barely breached like 2:30.
- 1:32:57Now do they have speed limiters over there like on the engines?
- 1:33:01Not no. Most of them can just go fast.
- 1:33:04Fast as possible, I'm just trying to think what.
- 1:33:05If you have like an M5 or something like it will go 200
- 1:33:08what? The.
- 1:33:09I'm trying to think of what my foot would feel like, Like I'm
- 1:33:12just sitting there like. It's kind of fun.
- 1:33:15You see a turn coming like it's a pretty wide turn, but like can
- 1:33:18this Jetta on snow tires do it at 130 while?
- 1:33:21Yeah, like we're going to find out.
- 1:33:25Dude, do you think that like now we're getting deep, But like, do
- 1:33:28you think that is like like them not having a like a lot of speed
- 1:33:34limits and having cars that don't have limiters and things
- 1:33:37like that? Do you think that creates an
- 1:33:39environment where people don't really find the need to do
- 1:33:42reckless shit versus America, where speed limiters speed
- 1:33:46limits, you're going to get pulled over speed traps?
- 1:33:48Yeah. So like during that, that
- 1:33:50certain jobs we were doing, we were working in conjunction with
- 1:33:54another company. And one of the other guys that I
- 1:33:56was, you know, traveled all over the different job sites.
- 1:33:59He would be their German guy. And he says, you know, most
- 1:34:02people don't speed because gas is expensive.
- 1:34:06And if you're driving a hundred, 120 miles an hour, you're
- 1:34:09getting bad fuel economy. Yeah.
- 1:34:11Most people, unless you're, you know, unless you have the money
- 1:34:13to buy like a new M5 or a 9/11 like you're not speeding around
- 1:34:17because it would cost too much. Yeah, like you're not taking
- 1:34:20your Ford Focus to like, fucking or Mondeo, whatever the other.
- 1:34:23Point It'd be better to leave 20 minutes earlier and save 20
- 1:34:27bucks. So in America it's I'll go to
- 1:34:28prison, and in Germany it's the gases too much.
- 1:34:30But they're also like way more. They take that, they're very
- 1:34:34disciplined. They take that responsibility
- 1:34:36driving very serious. You can't drive until you're 21.
- 1:34:39You have to do all something like that.
- 1:34:41You have to do all kinds of It's not just like, go to the DMV,
- 1:34:44run over a couple cones, and the guy's like, oh fuck it, here's
- 1:34:46your license, dude. The driving test taught me it's
- 1:34:49difficult to. Get your license.
- 1:34:50Yeah, and if you lose it, like, you can lose it forever.
- 1:34:54But that's the thing that speeding not a big deal if you
- 1:34:58don't stop completely at a stop sign where there's like a
- 1:35:00pedestrian crossing especially. Straight suspended.
- 1:35:03Straight to the. Jam.
- 1:35:04Yeah, you're not I for A. While OK.
- 1:35:07So I guess it's just different things.
- 1:35:08So like, they take that really like driving inside the towns
- 1:35:12and cities, like, yeah, don't mess around.
- 1:35:14Like, so there's people around you got to actually injure
- 1:35:16somebody by being careless. So, America, you can you can tap
- 1:35:19someone that stops. I don't.
- 1:35:20Know I think it's the the discipline part because you.
- 1:35:24Don't see people on the phones on the highway.
- 1:35:25Yeah, paying attention. Come up behind somebody, they
- 1:35:28move over. You actually spend more time
- 1:35:30watching your mirrors for somebody who's flying up behind.
- 1:35:32You. I'd be so scared.
- 1:35:33Flash the high beams for you to get over people get over.
- 1:35:36That's that's so funny. You can just bomb down the left
- 1:35:38lane. Flash your high beams or
- 1:35:39accountable somebody. They just.
- 1:35:40They just move. Dude, I try that on Route 17.
- 1:35:42It doesn't work. I'll be behind.
- 1:35:45I'll be behind someone for eight hours just going like this.
- 1:35:47Yeah, they. Just, I've I've said it.
- 1:35:49They only slow down. Yeah.
- 1:35:50Then they just. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:35:52They slow down. That's the best.
- 1:35:53Or someone like they have the yield sign.
- 1:35:55They're like. Yeah, yeah, they're ready.
- 1:35:57Off the road like fucking letting you in here.
- 1:35:59Slow down, yeah. Over my dead body at.
- 1:36:01The same speed I am. Growing up in this area, I I
- 1:36:04learned to just if if I'm merging onto a highway, I look
- 1:36:08and if I don't think he'll crash.
- 1:36:09If he hits the brake, I just go. He'll figure it out.
- 1:36:12If if it's if it looks like a dangerous situation on my end,
- 1:36:15like I made a big mistake, that's one thing.
- 1:36:18But if it looks like he has enough time to slow down, I'm
- 1:36:20going out. Either way, as long as my
- 1:36:21blinkers on, he's got to figure that out.
- 1:36:23Like, dude, that's all I do now. Like I'll put my blinker on.
- 1:36:26I look no ones there in the immediate area.
- 1:36:30I'm fucking going. I imagine you're also like doing
- 1:36:31your best to get up to Hwy. speed.
- 1:36:33You're not like you're not. You're not merging in at 40
- 1:36:35miles an hour and then once you're in, you and traffic like
- 1:36:38oh should speed. Up.
- 1:36:39Oh, I hate that. The rate everyone's driving.
- 1:36:41No, you just enter a 20 and just.
- 1:36:42Stay at 20 dude in. And just.
- 1:36:44Hope for the. Best I like taking exits faster
- 1:36:47than the flow of traffic, 'cause then I just it's that's my way
- 1:36:50of saying you guys are so fucking slow that this Koiya is
- 1:36:53taking this off ramp that says 40 at 60 and you're going 45 on
- 1:36:59the highway. Like you'll be behind someone
- 1:37:01and we're we're entering the highway and then they like come
- 1:37:03to a stop and you're like, no, that's not, that's not how this
- 1:37:06works. Right.
- 1:37:07Yeah. It's like you just made it
- 1:37:08difficult. Yeah, you just made it so.
- 1:37:10Difficult if you were going the speed they where it'd be much
- 1:37:13easier to just slide in wherever.
- 1:37:15They were. I think that has a lot to do
- 1:37:16with just like I don't, I don't want to say car people, but like
- 1:37:19for some reason people who are like in touch with driving more
- 1:37:23a little bit. They just, like, think of things
- 1:37:25differently because you'll be with like a normal person and
- 1:37:27they're like like panicking when they get on Hwy.
- 1:37:30It's like. One of my favorite things I
- 1:37:33drive. My work is east from where I
- 1:37:35live. So in the morning drive into the
- 1:37:37sun and like drive into the sun going down the Turnpike around
- 1:37:41the corner. Usually it's the one like right
- 1:37:42by 476 of the northeast extension get flash from the
- 1:37:46sun. So many people's first
- 1:37:49instinctual reaction is stomp the brakes like, oh shit, I'm
- 1:37:53blind. Everybody else is too.
- 1:37:55What I should do is drastically change my position on the road
- 1:37:59and my speed on the road. Hopefully everyone behind me.
- 1:38:02Catch them off guard. You know.
- 1:38:03While they're blind. Gotcha.
- 1:38:05Like, oh, we're safe, guys, That's.
- 1:38:07Fucking nuts. That's you know what they won't
- 1:38:08expect still going 40 right now the.
- 1:38:10Worst I've ever experienced. You know when your windshield is
- 1:38:13salty and that happens. Oh, it's total White House.
- 1:38:16But I'm not slowing down. I feel like that's I don't have
- 1:38:19any HVAC in my in my drift car it didn't come away your.
- 1:38:22Daily has a little bit of problems.
- 1:38:24It currently doesn't either. Plenty plenty of wipers.
- 1:38:28Too much wipers. Too much wipe, yeah, Andy said
- 1:38:31on the way. Here is he stopped working and
- 1:38:33the wipers won't stop going. The wipers are just on low.
- 1:38:36They're stuck like on the low setting.
- 1:38:38Yesterday and then today when I got in, no fan, no HVAC.
- 1:38:41So, so annoying. What kind?
- 1:38:42Of still. Come on.
- 1:38:43Board or? Yeah, it's a it's an old 1F-350.
- 1:38:47OK, so something you know electrical problems still
- 1:38:50happen. You're too calm, dude.
- 1:38:52It is. My feet were a little chilly.
- 1:38:54On the I was. Going to say it's it's I I want
- 1:38:56to get the degrees. Your way home is going to suck.
- 1:38:58I want it's 32° it's. Going to be a little colder now.
- 1:39:01I might do like a couple checks to see if it's something I can
- 1:39:05at least unplug the wiper motor, so that's not annoying me the
- 1:39:07whole time. Just pull the.
- 1:39:09The It's going to drizzle. It's real dried out for two
- 1:39:14hours straight while I'm driving in a 30° cab.
- 1:39:17You're gonna fucking need them like some weird reason.
- 1:39:20You're gonna need them. That does happen.
- 1:39:22And then you're gonna be like. You're gonna pull that one fuse
- 1:39:25out, and then you're gonna be driving, and then a fucking
- 1:39:27monsoon is gonna come out of nowhere.
- 1:39:28What the? Fuck, I have to do that on the
- 1:39:30IS, I'll. Just pop the that's what I do.
- 1:39:33I'm driving. That's what I do on my on the IS
- 1:39:35on the drift car the wipers will work randomly if it starts to
- 1:39:40rain automatic. Oh.
- 1:39:42The problem is, is if it's like a light rain and it's like one
- 1:39:46of those situations where it's like.
- 1:39:48On and off automatic wipers. No, Oh.
- 1:39:51That's what I'm. Saying it just does it.
- 1:39:53I don't know why. Maybe water makes some sort of
- 1:39:57contacts of a sort of short happen so.
- 1:39:59I I you might have a leak in your windshield.
- 1:40:01Maybe, Yeah, that's kind of what.
- 1:40:03Screwed up my truck. I just happened to notice,
- 1:40:06especially with snow. One of them, you know, holds the
- 1:40:08moisture on the cow for a long time.
- 1:40:10Get in and like weird electronic stuff.
- 1:40:13What happens? I start looking under the dash
- 1:40:14and it's wet. Start pushing around the
- 1:40:16windshield and I can feel areas where it's not adhered well.
- 1:40:20Oh no, I hope not. How?
- 1:40:21Did the windshield put in Because it was, I mean, not
- 1:40:24right away. I drove until it was like
- 1:40:25literally falling out. Yeah, and then I push it out of
- 1:40:29place. It's.
- 1:40:29Like, oh shit, this might be a little leak.
- 1:40:32That negligence might be why I don't have heat right now.
- 1:40:36That's that's. It's most mechanics.
- 1:40:38What? The way I look at it though, you
- 1:40:39know, if you let a problem go long enough, eventually it's
- 1:40:43going to be really obvious what's wrong.
- 1:40:44And that's what I. Say it's like something.
- 1:40:46Inside the engines making noise, well, you know, keep running it
- 1:40:49because it's way easier to check like your bearings and
- 1:40:51everything when half of them are on the ground.
- 1:40:53If you can't see. Like, well, that's the problem.
- 1:40:55So my truck has a problem it's having.
- 1:40:57It's had a problem for two to three years now.
- 1:40:59There's a loud banging noise in the back when I make like a
- 1:41:02right turn and get on throttle and I'm like, all right, this
- 1:41:06problem seems pretty fucking bad, but it's been two years and
- 1:41:11nothing's happened. Can't.
- 1:41:12Be that bad. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:41:14It keeps working. We always say, like, Malcolm
- 1:41:17always says, like I'm going to be getting on a highway, like on
- 1:41:20AU turn or something, and then my bed's just going to go one
- 1:41:22way and my fucking truck's going to.
- 1:41:23Be going the other way, It's. Like one of those things, like
- 1:41:25the more you work on cars, the less you want to work on your
- 1:41:27own. Car.
- 1:41:28Yes, yeah. And but also that theory is
- 1:41:30right though. Like if you don't know what it
- 1:41:32is and you know you're not going to get stranded because you're a
- 1:41:34mechanic or something, you just fucking keep driving it till it
- 1:41:36breaks. Eventually it'll make itself
- 1:41:39obvious. It'll make it obvious, that's
- 1:41:40why. That doesn't.
- 1:41:41Work now you don't want to buy fuse boxes on fire and we'll be
- 1:41:43like, oh, that's just one of my papers are stuck.
- 1:41:46On I knew that really could. Be a Really.
- 1:41:49Dangerous idea. Too obvious now.
- 1:41:51Yeah, it's. So obvious my car's on fire.
- 1:41:53Something shorting and sparking under the hood like I bet
- 1:41:55that's. It yeah.
- 1:41:57What's that smell? And then flames are just coming
- 1:41:59out from under the hood. That's got an extra roll of
- 1:42:01electrical tape in there. I'll just enough.
- 1:42:04The guests had checked the the the early tuning and and self
- 1:42:09taughtness has like weathered you so well.
- 1:42:12You just don't care anymore. You're like.
- 1:42:13He is, Yeah, He is. Oh.
- 1:42:14It's definitely I'm jaded now, just even just from being in
- 1:42:18cars and stomping on the throttle like that used to make
- 1:42:20me nervous just getting in a car on the dyno.
- 1:42:23There's a lot going on and I forget about it until I have
- 1:42:26someone else, like, operate a car in the dyno.
- 1:42:28They're like, it's so weird, like you're sitting stationary
- 1:42:30and there's so much noise and everything going on, dude, they
- 1:42:32don't even notice it anymore. That shit is so scary to me.
- 1:42:35I think that so that kind of fell over the time that I wasn't
- 1:42:38driving on track. Once I was driving on track
- 1:42:40again, that very much changed the way I feel like when I'm
- 1:42:44actually going out drifting, really don't think about stuff
- 1:42:48like that. I have.
- 1:42:50Friends that are like, oh, get nervous around like tree turn,
- 1:42:52I'm always looking at those barrels out there.
- 1:42:54I'm like, there's barrels out there.
- 1:42:57You're wide. You're going to hit those
- 1:42:58barrels. I'm like, I don't.
- 1:42:59I just tell people I black out the moment ago.
- 1:43:02I don't. I don't remember.
- 1:43:04I can't. You probably couldn't even ask
- 1:43:06me. What you're like look?
- 1:43:07Like doing a dish. You're like more confident now?
- 1:43:11Yeah, I just don't think about There's like, in my mind there
- 1:43:14are zero consequences on track. Maybe it's 'cause you didn't
- 1:43:17drive the car there too, That's. Incredible.
- 1:43:20That helps. That's a big deal.
- 1:43:21Like. I'll just wad the thing and be
- 1:43:23like, that was fun. Yeah, I guess I'm not drifting
- 1:43:25for a little while. Is it just 'cause you you you're
- 1:43:27you're you're able to trust it more mechanically 'cause you're
- 1:43:31like, I know the limit of this thing?
- 1:43:34I don't know even about that because I don't bowl check as
- 1:43:36much as I should. Jesus, sometimes.
- 1:43:38I'm just like it's probably. Fun.
- 1:43:39It's AZ. So.
- 1:43:41Or something will even be loose, Like I feel wobble like oh,
- 1:43:43there's definitely a control arm coming off but.
- 1:43:45You know this is more like Tom Nazaro 2.
- 1:43:49More laps left in this. Session I can ride it.
- 1:43:51Out. I don't.
- 1:43:52I don't think Tom's doing that. Probably he feels something
- 1:43:54loose and he's mid. He probably just keeps drifting
- 1:43:56that. I've had that only happen knock
- 1:43:58on wood one time and it was when we went to mid pond which is was
- 1:44:02what like 15-16 hours away from here.
- 1:44:04The wheel I guess fell off the IS you know the ball joint.
- 1:44:07The whole situation thing, well, it happened to me so like, it
- 1:44:13happened like of course, like at the worst time far away from
- 1:44:16home. But I could not have been more
- 1:44:19unbothered by it, I guess could. Have been even worse if you were
- 1:44:21in tandem and he was like and it went.
- 1:44:23Yeah. Yeah, but it happened like we
- 1:44:25were driving. I did one drift and I'm like,
- 1:44:27oh, OK that was pretty good. Did did some of these.
- 1:44:30I'm like something felt kind of loose and as soon as I went like
- 1:44:32one, see, that's. It it went.
- 1:44:35And I'm like, whoa. But how much easier was it to
- 1:44:38troubleshoot it? It.
- 1:44:40Was it was pretty easy. We still couldn't figure out
- 1:44:43what it was. I was like, I thought the coil
- 1:44:44over snapped, but then it got worse because the wheel fell off
- 1:44:50and I was like, oh that's got to be the problem.
- 1:44:52Oh my God. I guess your theory is pretty
- 1:44:55good though. What is that like when your
- 1:44:56wheel falls off and you like? That's the funniest.
- 1:44:59Thing. It was funnier, I guess, for
- 1:45:01everyone else. Because, like, I swear to you.
- 1:45:05Like. You're looking at your mangled
- 1:45:06up Fender over your hood. Like, yeah, no, I was.
- 1:45:09I got it all. I got it off track and
- 1:45:12everything. Like I I was driving.
- 1:45:14I'm. I'm telling my buddy Ethan.
- 1:45:15I'm like, yo, something's wrong. I think.
- 1:45:18You really drove that shit off the track?
- 1:45:19Yeah. And and and and the the ball
- 1:45:21joint was just resting on the inside of the FNO one and it was
- 1:45:26just and then we slowed down. I saw the wheel or the car was a
- 1:45:31little, you know, cock. I guess the TIE rod's still on
- 1:45:33there, so. Yeah.
- 1:45:35Yeah, it was a little. Bit but the the the problem was
- 1:45:38was after we stopped and then tried to go, that's when it just
- 1:45:43went boom. Yeah, that's where that picture
- 1:45:45is. I'm like, yeah, some some
- 1:45:47photographer. Dude, I forgot who took the
- 1:45:49picture. He got a good photo.
- 1:45:50Of it. He happened to be walking by
- 1:45:51like whoa. And I'm like, yo-yo, yo-yo get
- 1:45:54this really quick, 'cause? That stage took us Carl Carl
- 1:45:56stage. Yeah, because then after that,
- 1:45:58all I needed. I just wanted to focus on
- 1:46:01getting it. Yeah, where it's got to go.
- 1:46:04That reminds me of this was a long time ago.
- 1:46:06I used to have RX7. I got it from Rich, had it
- 1:46:10before me, and I ended up with his cousin Eric, who fabricates
- 1:46:12at freedom. Oh wait, I don't know if you
- 1:46:14know Eric, back that freedom. Well, I remember in RX7 drifting
- 1:46:17with Rich. Was that the same car or was
- 1:46:20that a different? Rich had it before I did.
- 1:46:22This was 2011 to 2013. OK, I'm thinking of 2000. 14 was
- 1:46:26LS LS1 Black FC, but Eric had it and he was out of club, loose,
- 1:46:33just getting closer and closer to the wall until he got too
- 1:46:36close. And like the steering was not
- 1:46:38right in the car either, like you go a little too far, like
- 1:46:41you had no lock stops, you go a little too far, wrap the tie
- 1:46:44rods and you're just you're stuck.
- 1:46:46Like it's trouble so. It sounds terrifying.
- 1:46:49It was not like safe. It was not well set up, we'll
- 1:46:52say. And you know, he's getting
- 1:46:54closer when something happened, you know, catches the back of
- 1:46:57the car, pulls the front end into the wall.
- 1:47:00But it's just that, that image of just a wheel with a hub and
- 1:47:04coil over. Attached to it.
- 1:47:06Just rolling down the bank towards tree turn.
- 1:47:08Just the whole left front corner.
- 1:47:09Just, oh, I forget which side. You know what?
- 1:47:11I mean, yeah. The whole corner suspension and
- 1:47:13wheel just cruising. Away there's another IS3.
- 1:47:15So funny a a friend of mine from I forget he's he's in New York
- 1:47:19somewhere, but his name's Amar. He has an IS300 as well.
- 1:47:22There's a He got memed, dude. Like, memed because it was the
- 1:47:26whole wheel. Yeah, with the spindle rolling
- 1:47:30like so many photos of it got taken, I was like, damn.
- 1:47:34Out. Complete in the lap that was.
- 1:47:35That happened to OSW with Who drives a Mustang in Pro?
- 1:47:42Travis Reader. Are you talking about when all
- 1:47:44the wheels came off? Beat em.
- 1:47:46I don't know. I will.
- 1:47:47No, Somebody lost a beat em in practice at OSW, one of the
- 1:47:51years I was down there. He lost a corner.
- 1:47:56I don't know. One of the rear wheels came off.
- 1:47:57I don't know what broke. It's kind of rough there when
- 1:47:59you transition from the bank down the infield and the wheel
- 1:48:03finished the lap and as soon as they cross the line everybody
- 1:48:06starts cheering and it's just so funny.
- 1:48:09Wait, 'cause if it was an Oval track, hold what it like?
- 1:48:12Rode the wall for a while. I forget where exactly it came
- 1:48:16off if it was on like the infield last turn.
- 1:48:20But it crossed the line like actually.
- 1:48:22It came off the car flipped a few times, landed with a fair
- 1:48:27amount of momentum and just rolled over the finish line.
- 1:48:29My worst fear is if stuff happened.
- 1:48:31Everyone cheered for. It, yeah.
- 1:48:33My worst fear, though, is that it would hurt somebody else.
- 1:48:36Yeah, that's a. That's an object like.
- 1:48:38With the mobile dyno stuff, something flying off and hitting
- 1:48:41somebody, I'm a little worried about that it.
- 1:48:43Yeah, yeah. What kind of insurance can you
- 1:48:45get for that waiver? Liability.
- 1:48:47Yeah, you can't get a waiver from everybody that's there.
- 1:48:49I mean, it presumably used them to work with an event organizer
- 1:48:53and CEO. What kind of waiver they have
- 1:48:55like? Maybe you just put that in there
- 1:48:57too? Put that in the waiver when they
- 1:48:59enter the. Everyone on the front.
- 1:49:00Flying Dino parts. I've never had any in in like
- 1:49:04the I bought that Dino a little over 10 years ago now, right
- 1:49:08around 10 years and nothing's ever flown off even in the shop
- 1:49:12wherever had like a tire D bead, which doesn't do much, you just
- 1:49:17kind of shift side to side a little.
- 1:49:19Yeah. That would be shit in myself.
- 1:49:22Dr. Shafts Vibrate. A board runs for stuff like
- 1:49:26that, or hear a rear wheel like coming loose and lift, but
- 1:49:30nothing that did any damage or flew off.
- 1:49:33But, but you've had like, have you had like motors blow like
- 1:49:35that? I feel like that's got to be
- 1:49:37more common than like a hardware issue.
- 1:49:39I had only like very, very recently had a catastrophic and
- 1:49:43it was an Sr. you know, Of course it was.
- 1:49:45Of course. I don't even know why I don't.
- 1:49:48It was a freshly built engine and it just dumped number for
- 1:49:52rod. Oh, there's a million reasons
- 1:49:54why. So holy shit I don't.
- 1:49:56Know something was up with it, but that's the first one I've
- 1:49:59had. I actually first.
- 1:50:01That's the first time like inside parts become outside
- 1:50:03parts. Oh, it's pretty.
- 1:50:05Impressive that. That was the first one.
- 1:50:07I've had stuff like also mostly SRS.
- 1:50:11They come in, they're like. I just settled this engine
- 1:50:12myself. I do one run the limiter and it
- 1:50:14has a. It has a obvious rod knock on
- 1:50:17Excel and I'm like you, you know, you're going to get to do
- 1:50:19it a second time. You know, oils, oils, fully
- 1:50:23glitter, like, yeah, that. I mean you can't.
- 1:50:27I guess you could run an engine so badly that you would do but.
- 1:50:31Wiping. Out bearings.
- 1:50:32With a tune on a 300 horsepower 4 cylinder, you can't even make
- 1:50:37you'd blow a head gasket or fold a rod long before you'd hurt a
- 1:50:41bearing from the tune being way off.
- 1:50:43Like that stuff. That's just Nissan stuff.
- 1:50:46Oil supply, they're not the greatest, you know, they're kind
- 1:50:49of known for that, right? Even the VQS, you don't keep
- 1:50:52those topped up with oil, you're.
- 1:50:53Going to I feel like VQS, you're going to blow up no matter what
- 1:50:55you do. I I think.
- 1:50:57Eventually. Durable.
- 1:50:59I don't know. I.
- 1:51:00Can't. I'm thinking the old ones, not
- 1:51:01the newer. Mine's an O3 and that engine, so
- 1:51:03it's. Ade, right?
- 1:51:05Yeah, DE 200 something, 1000 miles.
- 1:51:08It took it out of my car and now it's in Kyle Supco's S14.
- 1:51:13And it's still going. Yeah, I mean, it burns a lot of
- 1:51:15oil, especially on a cold. Start, I was about to say.
- 1:51:17That's popped off though. Yup, That's how you know it's
- 1:51:19good. You know, it's all right.
- 1:51:21Oil's work there. It's work out a little bit.
- 1:51:23More I'm going to get AZ eventually one day for the shop
- 1:51:25because I I do want to build one of those cars.
- 1:51:27Rev UPS are not the most reliable, but DS, my other my
- 1:51:31daily driver has 335,000 miles. Really.
- 1:51:36I killed the engine eventually, but you.
- 1:51:38Know. I was.
- 1:51:41Calmly. Like, yeah, it.
- 1:51:42Was my bad, you know. So it's, but it's.
- 1:51:45Always like a negligence type of it's it's self-inflicted wound
- 1:51:49type of so good engine so you. Really is you have a daily 3
- 1:51:52foot easy, yeah. Yeah, you have another another
- 1:51:54row three. Got it from.
- 1:51:58It was abandoned. Was that a impound lot?
- 1:52:01Got it cheap. 335,000 miles. Someone took care of it.
- 1:52:06Holy. Shit, Then I got it.
- 1:52:07It's not so nice anymore. 335,000 miles on Azi.
- 1:52:12Changed oil, didn't do anything else for 5000 miles.
- 1:52:16Then I was at a friend's shop and we were all doing Donuts so
- 1:52:20you know, bought the whole tire I'm going to use.
- 1:52:22The whole tire went through like an entire pair in one non-stop
- 1:52:27donut session. Parked it.
- 1:52:30I just pictured that engine screaming, but it's an old.
- 1:52:32Man, it went from like. Just like again and again and
- 1:52:36again and again and again. But.
- 1:52:37The engine is like an old man because it's got 300. 1000 tires
- 1:52:41help me and like you know it was like 5 minutes of limiter just
- 1:52:46straight to key off, put it in park and go inside.
- 1:52:50Then when I left later I keyed it on and you know that like
- 1:52:53before it builds oil pressure. First hit had a little wrap like
- 1:52:57oh that's it. That's new.
- 1:52:59So then the next day when I got home, I checked the oil.
- 1:53:02Nothing on the dipstick. All right?
- 1:53:04At least a quart. Nothing.
- 1:53:06Another quart. Just getting there.
- 1:53:09All right, well, that makes sense.
- 1:53:10I didn't check it for 5000 miles.
- 1:53:11OK, with 300,000? Miles, they probably.
- 1:53:13Would have lasted. Yeah, probably, if it had oil in
- 1:53:16it before you did the doughnut. I felt a little bit bad, 'cause
- 1:53:18that was a kind of a dumb way to end its streak.
- 1:53:20But you know what? It shit happens.
- 1:53:23Yeah, that'll happen. Play stupid games.
- 1:53:25Plenty more DES for like $500 I hope.
- 1:53:27Derek gets his shit, Derek said. He got his shit.
- 1:53:29Really makes me so mad that they don't make that twin turbo kit
- 1:53:32from Gretty anymore. That's all I want.
- 1:53:35I know it's. Probably can, but they have
- 1:53:36adapter plates to put factory GTR turbos on them.
- 1:53:40BTW sells them. I want something that's like, I
- 1:53:43like the Gretty kit because it was like, I know those turbos
- 1:53:45were not big, I just want it to change the sound hopefully.
- 1:53:48Oh, it makes them sound fine. Even a single turbo set up, just
- 1:53:51like build a wide pipe from the stock manifolds changes
- 1:53:55everything. That was it.
- 1:53:55Because I don't want to push power like you, ever.
- 1:53:58See the ones now with the turbo in the back.
- 1:54:02Yeah, you know what's up with those?
- 1:54:03Crazy. I never really, like, did
- 1:54:05research into that shit. But all I think about is like,
- 1:54:08is the exhaust pressure the same when it's all the way back
- 1:54:10there? Like I guess.
- 1:54:10Yeah, you get enough, you get enough velocity back there, it's
- 1:54:13you got to pressurize the whole pipe.
- 1:54:15But it's not. It's not as laggy as people make
- 1:54:19it out to be. You know it.
- 1:54:20You know, it's a lot on LS cars, but yeah, it's not bad.
- 1:54:23You know what's really important when you have a setup like that?
- 1:54:26Exhaust. Leaks.
- 1:54:27Yeah, probably. You definitely need all your
- 1:54:29gaskets. Yeah, in there and tight.
- 1:54:31Yeah, that makes sense. You should have seen the look on
- 1:54:33my face when I saw one of those for the first time.
- 1:54:35It was AG 37. And, you know, obviously the
- 1:54:38bumpers cut. Yeah.
- 1:54:40I'm driving like. A Lambo, yeah.
- 1:54:42Yeah. No.
- 1:54:42No, no. A lot of people are trying to do
- 1:54:44the the rear dual mounts. It was just the center, just the
- 1:54:47center section, enough for you to see the turbo the entire
- 1:54:50time. Mind you, I'm not the smartest
- 1:54:53person in the room sometimes, but the entire time I'm driving
- 1:54:57behind this thing, questioning if that's a turbo.
- 1:55:01You're like, I was like, what the fuck am I looking at right
- 1:55:05now? Like 'cause they'll use the
- 1:55:06filters right there, the turbo, and then, you know, it sounds
- 1:55:09different. Have you tuned one of those like
- 1:55:11a rear mounted set up? Not on AVQ, but on LSS, yeah.
- 1:55:15And and you, did you notice any, I mean it's so hard to ask that
- 1:55:18question. No, I I mean if you did a
- 1:55:21back-to-back like same set up with mounted in the front or
- 1:55:25mounted in the back you there, I'm sure there's a difference.
- 1:55:27You know, there's definitely be a discernible difference, but
- 1:55:29it's not bad. I mean for a Street car, the
- 1:55:33one, the one was an automatic GTO built engine and had like a
- 1:55:3876mm something that's not that big for a six litre I.
- 1:55:41Was. Going to say 76mm.
- 1:55:43Kind of large 7675's, too small for that engine really, but.
- 1:55:47So this might be a dumb comparison.
- 1:55:49You tell me if it's dumb. You know how people are always
- 1:55:51like, oh, I got to put a high mount intercooler in because I
- 1:55:53don't want all the piping going down.
- 1:55:57Do you think that's like? Relatable.
- 1:55:59There's a whole a little, I mean that's still area you got to,
- 1:56:02you have to fill. But yeah, that volume in the
- 1:56:05grand scheme of things isn't a ton.
- 1:56:07I mean, I but I don't get me wrong, I really like a clean
- 1:56:09setup like that too. Like I like I did a doing AVR 30
- 1:56:12swap into my car. Yeah, and they have, you know,
- 1:56:16dual twin turbo, twin air to waters and the turbo outlets
- 1:56:20just go straight up to the inner corner, straight into the
- 1:56:22throttle. It's definitely nice.
- 1:56:23Like that's going to get you that a little bit, but you know
- 1:56:26you're talking in the case of like small percentages.
- 1:56:30And then I think about Subarus, when they they do the opposite,
- 1:56:32they'll be like, oh, I need a front mount intercooler.
- 1:56:34Piping runs. Piping is just like. 3 laps
- 1:56:36around the engine. Bed, yeah.
- 1:56:37It's like you're adding seven feet of piping when you when you
- 1:56:40literally had one foot or less and then but they run those cars
- 1:56:44and they're like, oh, they they never complain about it.
- 1:56:47There's a whole thing to sizing the piping like the air
- 1:56:50velocity. Garrett has a nice tool in their
- 1:56:53website, like ideally like for intercooler piping and all that
- 1:56:57you don't, You want your airspeed to be like half a mock
- 1:56:59and what the yeah, you can get way into, you know, I'm sure
- 1:57:03it's a lot of fabricators. I want a Mach 5.
- 1:57:05I know. I'm like, give me the air.
- 1:57:06Mock airflow at. Mach one not great.
- 1:57:09Yeah, but apparently half, you know, half the speed of sound is
- 1:57:12so magic number. That's so interesting.
- 1:57:15I didn't fuck what I'm over here like intercooler piping.
- 1:57:19Just connect one end to the other.
- 1:57:20The air is going hundreds of mph through there.
- 1:57:23Kind of insane. It's going to cover the ground,
- 1:57:25that one foot. It's going to get there.
- 1:57:27Yeah, like it's going to take it real long.
- 1:57:30Yeah, like. Half the time it takes you to
- 1:57:31yell at the throttle body, that air's going to be there.
- 1:57:33You know, like that's pretty fast.
- 1:57:35That's so crazy. Half a mock.
- 1:57:37What the? Fuck, I never knew that.
- 1:57:40Definitely the first time that's been said on here.
- 1:57:43Dude, the mock. Yeah, the fuck.
- 1:57:46So that's ideal airspeed, I guess, they say, Garrett says.
- 1:57:49The general rule of thumb, something like that.
- 1:57:51There's all kinds of stuff you can read on cylinder head design
- 1:57:55and airflow, and that's, I don't know, all's.
- 1:57:57I know if you use a turbo to make the air pressure higher, it
- 1:58:01gets better. It takes out some of those
- 1:58:04imperfections of port flow a little bit.
- 1:58:06I I feel like. Score one for.
- 1:58:08Turbo I try to. I try to always go back.
- 1:58:11Well, especially now is after the conversation we just had
- 1:58:13about, like, there are limitations, but like, you know,
- 1:58:19the turbos have been around for a while.
- 1:58:21You know, like, what the hell were they doing before?
- 1:58:23Just like making it. This is the.
- 1:58:25Craziest stuff too, that I'd like.
- 1:58:27I like the idea of the flip intercolor piping is mounted
- 1:58:31high. I smash into the ground a lot
- 1:58:33with my drift car, so I'm like, yeah, I rip all that piping out.
- 1:58:36It's nice. It's clear that makes sense when
- 1:58:38I go through the woods. It'll stay intact.
- 1:58:40Yeah, but you know they'll put I need to short route my
- 1:58:46intercooler piping. Take a 12 inches of intercooler
- 1:58:49pipe will turn out. But I want to run this old T
- 1:58:51series, just get a get get AG 25 bro.
- 1:58:55That's going to make it so much better and it doesn't matter.
- 1:58:59Like that's so true. Oh my God, those people.
- 1:59:02Misappropriate funds so much and I, you know, I get that all the
- 1:59:06time. People ask me that's one of my,
- 1:59:08I mean paves, they'll get a lot of texts from people like it's
- 1:59:12not a, you know, not the media and it's if a couple people here
- 1:59:15and there. I'll have customers that I want
- 1:59:17to get tuned next year when I get my car finished, they'll
- 1:59:20text me, text me like all this you know what would you run and
- 1:59:23be your opinion on these parts whatever.
- 1:59:24And I'll tell them like this is this is what I would get and
- 1:59:28they show up with like not that the exact.
- 1:59:30Opposite. Shit faction Motorsports, who
- 1:59:32would put on I? Mean that's.
- 1:59:33What I do to breakies? The one thing you don't want to
- 1:59:35skimp on is injectors. And we're like, well, eBay had
- 1:59:39these genuine Bosch injectors for cheap and I'm like, man, you
- 1:59:42did. You did the one thing.
- 1:59:43I got them. Used.
- 1:59:44That's great. You made it worse somehow.
- 1:59:46Yeah, the. One thing.
- 1:59:49Though that kind of segues us into I mean somebody we we have
- 1:59:53all these questions here but somebody asked how to size their
- 1:59:56turbo appropriately, does that piping and all of that.
- 2:00:01I I don't know. I'll probably get some kick back
- 2:00:04on this one, but my opinion is yes, the smallest turbo that can
- 2:00:08meet your goals with probably the biggest or close to the
- 2:00:12biggest AR turbine housing that it comes with.
- 2:00:16Getting a turbo that's too big and choking it with a small AR
- 2:00:18turbine housing is not going to make up for the amount of lag
- 2:00:21you're introducing just from just the inertia, from all that
- 2:00:24extra wheel and mass that you're trying to spin.
- 2:00:27You're way better off. Get a turbo that you're going to
- 2:00:31wring out to get to your goal and then choke it as little as
- 2:00:34possible with the biggest terminals you can get.
- 2:00:36It's going to out spoil the bigger turbo with a small AR
- 2:00:40because a lot of times if you're on a good setup you could go
- 2:00:42from a point 62.63 whatever, let's say terms of T3 to a .82
- 2:00:48and you will. You might even make power
- 2:00:50sooner. It will be at less boost because
- 2:00:52you don't look at PSI versus RPM pressures, just resistance to
- 2:00:57airflow. If your setup works right, it
- 2:00:59will make more power at half that amount of boost.
- 2:01:02What does the A/R stand for out of curious?
- 2:01:05Aspect ratio. I think it is aspect ratio, but
- 2:01:08it's a turbine size. That's the larger.
- 2:01:10So when that number is larger, that's the turbine we're
- 2:01:13talking. About, yeah, and it's it's
- 2:01:15proportional to the turbo. So a .63 on a 58mm turbine is
- 2:01:19not the same as .63 on a 72mm turbine, because it's a ratio
- 2:01:23against the diameter of the wheel.
- 2:01:25He's kind of saying almost the opposite of what most people
- 2:01:29think when they think of turbos, like, oh, I'm going to get the
- 2:01:31smaller I. Fully call that a myth.
- 2:01:34This is an Internet myth. I'm glad you said that because I
- 2:01:36got the bigger one from mine so and I was a little nervous
- 2:01:39about. That I just tried it.
- 2:01:40Back-to-back like cars. Like like say Rich's set up on
- 2:01:46his FD car is Jay ZX. Yeah, fantastic cylinder head.
- 2:01:49That thing makes monster power just from having the head
- 2:01:53correctly ported. No other, no other real change
- 2:01:57to the car, just a cylinder head swap.
- 2:01:59Same turbo, same exhaust manifold.
- 2:02:01It made the same power at 12 PSI less boost. 12. 12 Less almost.
- 2:02:08A full bar? What the fuck?
- 2:02:10Just just cylinder head work. Just head work and it make and
- 2:02:14so you can imagine that turbo is making 10PSI about as fast as
- 2:02:18it. Well, not as fast as it used to
- 2:02:19because it doesn't need as much pressure to make power, but down
- 2:02:23low, where that turbo used to have to make 15 PSI to make 500
- 2:02:27foot pounds, yeah, it does it at like 5 PSI now.
- 2:02:30It's just. Flowing way better, it just
- 2:02:32flows better and that's crazy. That's so.
- 2:02:35There's a lot of good info here just cuz I never knew.
- 2:02:37First of all I never knew what that point 82.63 point whatever
- 2:02:44AR meant. Now I kind of.
- 2:02:46Now I at least I feel like I think I do.
- 2:02:47And also how to sign, like, definitely useful information.
- 2:02:52Daryl, I'm going to fucking tell you about this.
- 2:02:54You better fucking listen to this shit.
- 2:02:56But yeah, never knew what the fuck that was for.
- 2:02:59In a modern turbo, like just to say, we use Zona Bird as an
- 2:03:05example, they have the UHF Ultra High Flow turbine.
- 2:03:09They kind of combine the idea of a clip turbine.
- 2:03:12So what they used to do is they'd clip turbine the blades
- 2:03:16down so there'd be more clearance between the wheel and
- 2:03:18the housing so that you wouldn't have it would raise your choke
- 2:03:20limit. OK.
- 2:03:21But you sacrifice a little bit of spool for that if you get
- 2:03:24more top end power. The other way that they change
- 2:03:28that is some turbines have more blades, some have less, and
- 2:03:31that's the same concept basically like.
- 2:03:33More resistant, the amount of air that that it can pull in or
- 2:03:36something like that. Yeah, just the amount you get to
- 2:03:38a point where your back pressure is rising too fast, it's just
- 2:03:40bottlenecking, you know and you could have an 11 blade turbine.
- 2:03:43If you're bottlenecking and your back pressure is getting out of
- 2:03:45control, you go to 10 blade, same thing.
- 2:03:47You might lose a little spool, but you're going to gain a lot
- 2:03:50in the top end. So it's always a trade off too
- 2:03:53between like what's going to get you the power band you want.
- 2:03:57But you know Ozona has this new one, it's it's a five on five
- 2:04:01style. Like you've seen old cast
- 2:04:03compressors that have, you know, 6 full size blades and six small
- 2:04:06blades in between. They're doing that with the
- 2:04:08turbine. They have 5 full size blades and
- 2:04:10in between those are five shorter blades.
- 2:04:12So you you kind of get a hybrid of more, more turbine blades,
- 2:04:18but they're also half of them are clipped a lot.
- 2:04:21So you have lighter weight, lighter rotating assembly there
- 2:04:25and you've increased the choke limit because those blades have
- 2:04:29a lot of space around them for there to move.
- 2:04:31So you kind of get a mix of the two and they do spool fantastic
- 2:04:36and you can make a ton of power. The ones I've tuned so far have,
- 2:04:41like, way exceeded what they're rated for.
- 2:04:43Probably not supposed to. Yet, I've.
- 2:04:45Avoided some warranties there, but they live with it and they
- 2:04:48make way more than they say they're going to make.
- 2:04:50What about like the new G series Turbo is?
- 2:04:52What is there any magic behind? They're great.
- 2:04:55So the T series, GTG series, a lot of that the, you know, the,
- 2:05:00you know like GT30GT35 you're talking about the turbine size.
- 2:05:04That's what Garrett uses to designate the turbine size.
- 2:05:07So if you go from AG25 to AG30 that's the different turbine and
- 2:05:11then the 660 whatever the horsepower estimated number is
- 2:05:15more or less like the different compressors.
- 2:05:18So but kind of what I was getting at there is like AGT all
- 2:05:23the GTS are that same generation of turbine era arrow, AG Series
- 2:05:28that's new turbine Arrow and that hasn't changed in a long
- 2:05:31time. So we're talking back to, you
- 2:05:34know when GTS were factory 240, S 14's 95 or whatever, they
- 2:05:41started the ball bearing T28's. That's AG, that's AGT 20 what?
- 2:05:452828 or. 286028 something like that.
- 2:05:49It's a GT28 basically. I don't know.
- 2:05:51They're still calling them T20 eights, but the ball bearing
- 2:05:53ones are GT turbos. So you think that's how old that
- 2:05:56turbine technology is? The G Series revamped, Garrett's
- 2:06:00taken a little bit more of a focus on the performance
- 2:06:03aftermarket. Finally, a lot of these
- 2:06:04companies don't care about that because their bread and butters,
- 2:06:07the OEMs, every new car has a Garrett MGT turbo on it from BMW
- 2:06:14to the new Z and Infinities, they're all Garrett turbos,
- 2:06:18that's what they're making money off of.
- 2:06:20But even those, they have new turbine Arrow, they're billet
- 2:06:23compressor wheels in a lot of them like the new Z, those are
- 2:06:28billet compressor wheels that come from the factory like that.
- 2:06:30You know, I heard those turbos are pretty shitty, to be honest
- 2:06:32with you. They're little.
- 2:06:33They're really little, at least. But they're.
- 2:06:36People that work at Infinity tell us they're just like, yeah,
- 2:06:38those things blow all the time, but we're like, what?
- 2:06:40Yeah, I don't know. There must be some kind of
- 2:06:42defect or some shit. But they also, they'll pull the
- 2:06:44intake off and be like there's oil in here, turbos.
- 2:06:46Yeah, that's that's. Kind of what?
- 2:06:47A PCV system. Does, Yeah.
- 2:06:49Yeah, I don't. Know a question?
- 2:06:50How many of them are actually blown?
- 2:06:51But. So those G series are pretty,
- 2:06:54pretty wild. Yeah, like.
- 2:06:55They they work fantastic too. Like you're going to get way
- 2:06:58more out of just upgrading to a newer generation of turbo.
- 2:07:02Yeah. But people still would like jump
- 2:07:05through all these hoops and then put an old 2871 on and it's
- 2:07:09like, well, TDO 6 easier way. Yeah.
- 2:07:12Those are really everyone act like the DSM days, the TDO fives
- 2:07:16and. TDO 6 I have atdo 6 on my car
- 2:07:17right? Now they are not fast.
- 2:07:19It used to be right. It used to be right there and I
- 2:07:22used to point to it. And it's a newer like RX series,
- 2:07:25gritty Turbo. I'm like, what did they change
- 2:07:27like? I mean, they haven't been
- 2:07:28making. These, they added letters.
- 2:07:29Yeah, I'm like, if they haven't really been making these, I feel
- 2:07:32like, but I guess they do make them still, but.
- 2:07:34Got their. It's just crazy.
- 2:07:35I feel like it just came off. Some like Mitsubishi, Fuso,
- 2:07:37whatever box truck. In Japan, they're like.
- 2:07:39Yes. They're like, OK, we can use
- 2:07:41this one. Got good old CT15B.
- 2:07:45Yeah, stock 1J turbo, but I did a steel wheel upgrade on mine.
- 2:07:49Yeah, that's the important thing because those things burst.
- 2:07:51Yeah. Like, aside from the fact that
- 2:07:54it was blown like the there was a lot of play.
- 2:07:58So I just yeah, good to have it. Checked.
- 2:07:59I was like, you know what? I Yeah, the, the, the to come.
- 2:08:04Fuck would that be the exhaust, The one on the the dirtier one.
- 2:08:08The exhaust wheel had so many little chunks out of the fins.
- 2:08:13Really. And I was like, oh, they got
- 2:08:15damn. Well, I guess they replaced
- 2:08:17that. I replaced them the.
- 2:08:19Turbine and shaft. Yeah, the the cartridge whole
- 2:08:22thing in the middle of it. You got the whole drift motion
- 2:08:25or something? Or.
- 2:08:25Yeah, yeah. They have like a lot of people
- 2:08:27run those. That's what I yeah, put on
- 2:08:29there. And now the hopefully not blow
- 2:08:32up. You you'll be good.
- 2:08:33Now. Miyagi didn't do that and she
- 2:08:34blew up. Turbo went.
- 2:08:36Yeah, on the way home too. From E Town.
- 2:08:38Remember Malcolm? That'll happen.
- 2:08:39Yeah. And is that why there's a tomei
- 2:08:41one in there? No, he doesn't have a Tomei 1.
- 2:08:44Don't don't get those for the 1J.
- 2:08:46He has a dude. Don't get those for anything.
- 2:08:49Really bad. They're.
- 2:08:50Bad. They are bad on one JV.
- 2:08:51Wait. You tell me what you've
- 2:08:52experienced. Boost Creep excessively laggy
- 2:08:56for how much power they won't? Make OK we put one on the RB and
- 2:08:59we had the same this. I don't think it was a single, I
- 2:09:02think it was the twin. It must have been a twin turbo
- 2:09:04set up that they sold. Thank God you said that because
- 2:09:07for me I'm like oh he's got a tow made turbo like oh.
- 2:09:10For some reason. That one J.
- 2:09:12It seems like some people all very good.
- 2:09:14Some people have OK results. I feel like for the SR1 they
- 2:09:16seem like they have OK results. But I remember we put that shit
- 2:09:19on RB dude, we were like chasing our tail 'cause we were like
- 2:09:23this. This cannot be this slow, like
- 2:09:25something's wrong. But dude, when it hit, it
- 2:09:28fucking hit hard. But it was like way too late.
- 2:09:32Like you were like something's drastically wrong with this
- 2:09:34engine, but nothing was wrong. Just dated turbo technology
- 2:09:37after hearing Andy's reasoning for the G series.
- 2:09:42Now I'm thinking like how long have I known what AGT 28 is?
- 2:09:45Or like agg 28702871 R and that likes fucking everybody Honda
- 2:09:51people 240 people fucking everyone 2871 R That's what I
- 2:09:55knew what a turbo was. Yeah.
- 2:09:56If you go way back to like when you know early 2000s again,
- 2:10:00you'd be like the SC 61. That'd be like the turbo to
- 2:10:03make. People were making 500 on it.
- 2:10:05That was making 500 was not common.
- 2:10:08That was the number that was tough to get to.
- 2:10:10Now that's the same. I mean, so many stock cars,
- 2:10:13dude. What about like, the whole sit
- 2:10:14ones? You're like, take the diesel
- 2:10:16turbo, fucking slap it on there, yeah?
- 2:10:18That's. Josh for a little?
- 2:10:20Bit was like, why don't you get why?
- 2:10:21Don't you get the diesel turbo and put the SAFC on there on the
- 2:10:24GE and I'm like. I'm all four for cobbling.
- 2:10:26I'm all four cobbling nonsense together and see how it works.
- 2:10:29But you don't necessarily need to bring it to me to tune it
- 2:10:31then. Yeah, yeah, like.
- 2:10:33I don't want to deal with it, but it is fun on, you know, your
- 2:10:37own projects too. Like that was how it used to be,
- 2:10:39I remember. I mean, oh, Justin had some
- 2:10:41weird diesel turbo on his Sr. Oh yeah, like really common on
- 2:10:44DSMS too. Whole sets from a, you know, 6
- 2:10:47BT Commons, all the Ram trucks, that's what they have.
- 2:10:51I have friends that still I've seen, you know, I know a couple
- 2:10:53people. I've tuned a car on RB20
- 2:10:55recently that had a whole set on it.
- 2:10:57You know Commons diesel, Turbo. You have to mark it so good now
- 2:11:00though, It's kind of. Like, that's what all the turbos
- 2:11:02used to be. You know, that was one thing
- 2:11:03back in the day, like a GT42. You get those really cheap
- 2:11:06because they came on Detroit 60s.
- 2:11:08It's just a commercial diesel engine.
- 2:11:10Turbo I didn't. Get them everywhere.
- 2:11:12People were slapping those on supers like crazy because you
- 2:11:15get them for a couple 100 bucks. Damn, I feel like they just made
- 2:11:19better noises too. I don't know.
- 2:11:21But compared to like today's standards, mega lag, you don't
- 2:11:24make any power. It's like a Tow Mate Turbo.
- 2:11:26Yeah, back. Hope they don't listen.
- 2:11:29To this before I was, you know, had the EVO, I was doing laptop
- 2:11:31stuff. It was all like doing all that
- 2:11:33nonsense, You know, like crush the fuel pressure regulator,
- 2:11:36make a little more, yes, cut little sections of the math out
- 2:11:39to compensate for the fact that you're raising fuel pressure
- 2:11:41everywhere. Like, that's crazy.
- 2:11:42Notch the cast to because they're not adjustable like a
- 2:11:45Nissan Ones. He'd notch the cast to kind of
- 2:11:47advance timing everywhere. All kinds.
- 2:11:49Anything you could do you? Got to tap in the blow valve
- 2:11:52the. Diverter crush the blow valve.
- 2:11:54Oh yeah, all those tricks. I never, I don't know anything
- 2:11:56we're talking about. It's just getting around, not
- 2:11:59being able to tune. Because there was no aftermarket
- 2:12:01shit, I mean. AFC or something, you know, and
- 2:12:04they can only do so much and you're telling the math, You're
- 2:12:08just reducing the amount of load the engine sees to reduce the
- 2:12:11injector flow. But simultaneously, you're also
- 2:12:13putting yourself in a higher amount of ignition advance while
- 2:12:17running. More boost and more power, which
- 2:12:19isn't a good way to blow something up.
- 2:12:21But if you go in, you roll the cast out, crank everything up,
- 2:12:25the AFC. So you got bigger injectors, but
- 2:12:27you've reduced your timing everywhere a lot.
- 2:12:29You know, you can kind of those fuel get away with it, those
- 2:12:31fuel. Computers are so crazy to me, I
- 2:12:35wish I I don't know. If you think about it way
- 2:12:37fucking easier dude. Like.
- 2:12:39Well, it is kind of way less. Yeah.
- 2:12:42It is just like easier. It is just band aiding or you
- 2:12:46know, it's just it's just a cheat try to work around.
- 2:12:49And that's why, if you know anymore, even if it's my own
- 2:12:52car, I'm like, I'm biased, alien, like, yeah.
- 2:12:54At. This point I've.
- 2:12:55Done it up, Screwing around. It's a hassle.
- 2:12:57Yeah, this one's. I mean this goes again off of
- 2:13:00this. Look at these questions so
- 2:13:01structured. This one's from Ricardo favorite
- 2:13:03and least favorite ECOECU to tune.
- 2:13:08Do you have a favorite or least favorite?
- 2:13:11I've been recommending a lot of this.
- 2:13:12Guy's going to say Haltech. Haltech and Link.
- 2:13:15Haltech and Link are nice. Fuck you.
- 2:13:18I just had a feeling he likes Haltech more, but you don't.
- 2:13:21You don't have a problem with Link.
- 2:13:22You like Link is. Fine.
- 2:13:24No, no reason, I said Haltech. Before link OK, so you like both
- 2:13:26of them, yeah? What makes them better than the
- 2:13:29other? Just of the from your standpoint
- 2:13:31like a tuner's? Standpoint, yeah, definitely.
- 2:13:33For for a tuner tuner standpoint, the user interface
- 2:13:36matters matters a lot, because I mean it's going to make the job
- 2:13:40way easier. Like from you looking?
- 2:13:43Through I can, yeah. I have a layout that's set up
- 2:13:45for Lync and I can, you know, I have a chat, you know, logging
- 2:13:48channels and graphs all set up already.
- 2:13:50And it's just everything you could want to see is there.
- 2:13:53They have a super fast processor in them.
- 2:13:55You can log everything as you know, high enough rate to get
- 2:14:00good data. It's just makes life so much
- 2:14:02easier when you can get all of that data.
- 2:14:05Lync and Haltech both have internal logging storage, so I
- 2:14:09set up auto logging whole time you're driving around your car's
- 2:14:13saving logs. Hit me up with a problem, say
- 2:14:15send me dump, dump the log file off the ECU and e-mail it to me
- 2:14:19and I can see what it's been doing.
- 2:14:21Like a doctor. Yeah.
- 2:14:22That's so helpful. Like it's doing it
- 2:14:24automatically. It's just all you can set it up
- 2:14:27for anytime you're over 2000 RPM and more than 25% throttle or
- 2:14:31whatever. You want.
- 2:14:32It'll save it for like, maybe Like how long?
- 2:14:35As soon as you cross those thresholds, it'll start logging
- 2:14:38until you're back below those thresholds, and then you can set
- 2:14:41an off timer so it'll wait 3 seconds after you're off
- 2:14:44throttle to make sure you're not just doing some sort of gear
- 2:14:47change or transient. You're going to get back on the
- 2:14:49throttle so you don't end up with weird cuts in the middle
- 2:14:51of. That's pretty helpful.
- 2:14:53But that's. That's pretty.
- 2:14:55You know what doesn't have that? Yeah, well.
- 2:14:58Like. Yeah.
- 2:14:59That seems helpful as fuck. Lower cost ECU master Black's a
- 2:15:05fantastic bang. I've heard a lot of people.
- 2:15:07I don't a lot. Of any people.
- 2:15:09About. This ECU master.
- 2:15:11But I I mean, it's fucking halt a lot.
- 2:15:13Of goodies and it's cheap. Yeah.
- 2:15:15Chris likes those. It's cheap.
- 2:15:17User interface like pretty good. Or it's alright, it's pretty
- 2:15:21good. OK, the other thing.
- 2:15:23So the one thing that really separates Lincoln Altech from
- 2:15:27the ECU masters if you want to do something. $1000.
- 2:15:31Not even depends. Depends on the model.
- 2:15:34You know, like a link plug and play.
- 2:15:36For S13 they're like 14 hundred 1500 bucks.
- 2:15:41Yeah, they're not even that. Crazy the the ECU Masters 1100
- 2:15:46Ish 11. I think it went up recently and
- 2:15:48something like that and then 250 bucks for the patch.
- 2:15:50So I mean you're you're close. Yeah, 1.
- 2:15:54Benefit point, it's like you're just picking whichever one you
- 2:15:56want. Yeah, the prices.
- 2:15:57Is so close you can do an EC master a little less.
- 2:15:59I mean, and if you're doing a a wire in link like a storm or
- 2:16:02something, that's. That's, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:16:05But you know, it depends. It's not a huge cost difference,
- 2:16:08but you got it depends on what you're doing with your card if
- 2:16:10it's worthwhile to have it. But the one thing with how tech
- 2:16:15and links, if I want to do something based on you know it's
- 2:16:18not a table that exists, I can just make a table.
- 2:16:20You can just set something up generically that does something
- 2:16:23that's not built into the ECU and sometimes that really comes
- 2:16:28in handy. For most stuff, you don't need
- 2:16:30anything outside of the normal strategies.
- 2:16:32So that really is a comes down to what you're trying to do with
- 2:16:36the car, and that's one thing maybe good time to know, like if
- 2:16:41you're not sure what ECU to get, ask whoever going to have tune
- 2:16:44it the best. ECU is the one that the person
- 2:16:47you're going to have setting it up wants to use.
- 2:16:50Yeah, because it would be the most comfortable with it and
- 2:16:51knowledgeable on it. And if they say like, like, I'm
- 2:16:55fine with doing power FCS, we're really that's what you have.
- 2:16:57That's all right. But you're telling me you want
- 2:16:59to, you're gonna have a fully built, you know, drift car,
- 2:17:03you're gonna do competitions. We'll be like you need to not
- 2:17:05run that. EC.
- 2:17:06At all. You you need.
- 2:17:08To get an 800 horsepower. You.
- 2:17:10Yeah, like. Frankie, you're kind of like.
- 2:17:13I'm on the line. You're on the fucking line,
- 2:17:15pretty. I have.
- 2:17:16Atdo 6 It's not that. Serious, but you have a two
- 2:17:18point. 2. I want to you even and a Max
- 2:17:20this turbo out for all it's worth.
- 2:17:21I'd be like and run ethanol and I'm like, all right, maybe.
- 2:17:24Yeah, yeah, get a house once you start doing flex fuel and shit.
- 2:17:27Power FC for that, yeah. Power FC, probably.
- 2:17:29Ain't there's other examples though, like you brought up more
- 2:17:33like Tom. I think it happened to Tom and
- 2:17:36and Josh recently. Yeah, What are they doing?
- 2:17:38Josh's his S14 engine lit. I used to be in Tony's S15.
- 2:17:42I let some other guy, Chris Davis or something.
- 2:17:45Yeah, Chris Davis. And then I sold it to Josh and
- 2:17:48that engine was never opened or something, right?
- 2:17:50All just untouched. I tuned it three times in three
- 2:17:53different cars. That green one.
- 2:17:55Yeah, the green belt. I remember seeing that, that
- 2:17:58dude. Fuel pump wiring took it out.
- 2:18:01And it sucks too, because the car was here for an alignment.
- 2:18:03We saw those wires. I remember I told Chris I was
- 2:18:06like, what the fuck is this? And he's like, I don't know,
- 2:18:08probably fucking tail lights or some shit because, you know,
- 2:18:11it's right by the tail light harness.
- 2:18:12And I was like, we should probably tell Josh.
- 2:18:14We didn't tell Josh. But if you had, you know if you
- 2:18:17had a link. He thought it was tail lights
- 2:18:18too, though. Link Caltech ECU master it would
- 2:18:21have threw with a fuel pressure sensor.
- 2:18:23You can just set up delta fuel pressure safety.
- 2:18:26If fuel pressure drops to the point that the ECU is not able
- 2:18:29to compensate or the fuel's not going to atomize anymore, just
- 2:18:33cut it out. Just.
- 2:18:35Or at least raise a warning. I mean, that's a that's a mixed
- 2:18:38bag too. A lot of people that are
- 2:18:39drifting, they don't want a safety to intervene to the point
- 2:18:42that I could interrupt them when they're running a wall or
- 2:18:44something. Because what's the worst case?
- 2:18:46It's maybe blow the engine up or like save the engine but wad the
- 2:18:49car it. Could get.
- 2:18:51Sketchy. It depends.
- 2:18:52And that's some people are OK. They'd rather have the safety,
- 2:18:56and I honestly think it's not that big.
- 2:18:58It depends on where it intervenes.
- 2:19:00But it would have to be if you lose.
- 2:19:01Power like you're probably fine. I don't.
- 2:19:04Know it would have to be a real weird situation.
- 2:19:07Yeah, especially if you're not like a comp car where you really
- 2:19:09rely on the the forward bite to get you through the turn.
- 2:19:13That's different. But you're also probably at a
- 2:19:15budgetary level where you. Hopefully you don't.
- 2:19:18Fix whatever happens. But a grassroots car like you're
- 2:19:22not, and you don't have so much forward, you don't have so much
- 2:19:25grip in that car and so much power that that's a factor in
- 2:19:28driving it. I have a sub majorly sub
- 2:19:30question of this. You brought up links like next
- 2:19:33tiers of ECU's like what is the difference between like the one
- 2:19:37that we got up here, the drop in one for the S13 or whatever that
- 2:19:40goes in the regular stock ECU versus like the best one they
- 2:19:43make like what are some of the like?
- 2:19:45Features some of them so that that has specifically the
- 2:19:48hardware it needs to run that application.
- 2:19:51Now if you want one that can do dual closed loop wide band for
- 2:19:54two different banks. That's some crazy shit.
- 2:19:59That's some F33. I don't built in O2 sensor
- 2:20:03control. A lot of those I've tried.
- 2:20:05A lot of those do have a lot of the software features, but you
- 2:20:07know, it comes down to if it can support all of the goodies you
- 2:20:11got on your setup, like there's some stuff that it's not going
- 2:20:14to do. Yeah, so interesting.
- 2:20:18The next one? Yes, Steely Tooth looks good.
- 2:20:21Stevie, what's the wildest car you've had on the dyno?
- 2:20:25He said. Wildest.
- 2:20:27Slash fastest, slash slowest, slash coolest.
- 2:20:29I'm just going to say memorable, I guess.
- 2:20:31Do you have a memorable 1I? Think he asked something like
- 2:20:33this earlier and we didn't really get to it.
- 2:20:35So yeah, I think weird ones. There was like a kit.
- 2:20:39How do you say Cataran? You know, a little?
- 2:20:42A boat? No.
- 2:20:44No, I was. Not a.
- 2:20:46Catamaran. Not a catamaran, yeah.
- 2:20:49What are they? I think I'm oh can am.
- 2:20:52Like a side by side. Thing.
- 2:20:54Like a razor. Knob Roadster.
- 2:20:56He's going to show us. I don't know what the hell
- 2:20:58there's. Probably some light poles.
- 2:21:00Like a old car, Like an MG? Like a?
- 2:21:03Midgem M7. Sort.
- 2:21:05Of Oh. Cater.
- 2:21:06Caterham. Caterham.
- 2:21:08You say it. Yeah.
- 2:21:09Oh, that's good. Yeah, the little one, the fat.
- 2:21:11Yeah, yeah, yeah. Little go Kart guy.
- 2:21:13A Mazda MZR like a 2.3 liter for the Mazda speeds.
- 2:21:16Terrible engine, but it had a hump.
- 2:21:19For some reason it was in there and those engines.
- 2:21:21I don't think that's what's normally in there, is it?
- 2:21:24They put something else in there that Revs high and sounds 4
- 2:21:27cylindery hopefully. But it was.
- 2:21:30I forget what turbo had on it. Upgraded built engine.
- 2:21:33Oh, OK. I think we stopped at like 300
- 2:21:36and 325 and yeah, the owner, you know, the owner was like, yeah,
- 2:21:41driving. Let's go for a drive.
- 2:21:42All right. Because he I was I asked him you
- 2:21:44know if he wants to drive it make sure everything works
- 2:21:46because he's he's having a lot of trouble getting some things
- 2:21:48sorted out. I found problems with his fuel
- 2:21:50system. I had to change the fuel line
- 2:21:52routing to fix fuel pressure problem that he had.
- 2:21:55I said we'll go drive around see if the transients and all that
- 2:21:58are better and it feels all right and we made it like half a
- 2:22:02mile and he was like I did he like do you want to drive it?
- 2:22:04I I can't keep my foot in it and like, I'll drive it.
- 2:22:08What the fuck? It was wild.
- 2:22:09It was fast. Dude, the curb weight on that
- 2:22:11thing is like about a piece of paper and a half.
- 2:22:14Like. 1200 and. 14 It's insane. Oh my God.
- 2:22:17They so 300 was enough to like, oh.
- 2:22:19Yeah, yeah. And you're not attached to
- 2:22:22anything. You're just your heads out.
- 2:22:23Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:22:24Scary as hell, like, And you're not exactly short.
- 2:22:27Yeah, yeah. You know, if you're upside down,
- 2:22:29you're like totally going to be. Totally dead.
- 2:22:31Totally dead. I remember watching a Top Gear
- 2:22:33episode with one of those things and they had to like build it
- 2:22:37like it came. You could either save money by
- 2:22:40building it or or it came pre assembled.
- 2:22:43Oh that's cool I think. But those cars were.
- 2:22:47What I knew about them was that they were like fucking go karts.
- 2:22:50It was a lot of fun to drive, That was that was definitely,
- 2:22:52especially since I got to go abuse it with the owner.
- 2:22:54Yeah, yeah, yeah. You run it through its faces all
- 2:22:57right if I have to. It's.
- 2:23:00Like. That was fun.
- 2:23:01And then like, I love Mark Fours, I see.
- 2:23:04I hate saying it now because it's so like.
- 2:23:07R30 fours. Always have I missed my
- 2:23:11opportunity to buy one. Had plenty of chances when I was
- 2:23:14younger. It's like it's like, you know,
- 2:23:16we were talking about that earlier.
- 2:23:17Like if I did, I wasn't tuning all the time.
- 2:23:19I wouldn't be driving a 23 year old truck.
- 2:23:23Yeah, yeah. It's when I bought the dyno like
- 2:23:26the next week. A 96 white black interior
- 2:23:30original turbo automatic, had a built engine with big boost
- 2:23:34Logic turbo set up on it. If he was selling the car with
- 2:23:38you know stock wheels and CCW drag pack and he wanted like 19
- 2:23:45for or something. I was about to say a stupid low
- 2:23:48number like that because we just got it done telling.
- 2:23:50I told a story. Didn't just buy this dyno.
- 2:23:5320/10/2011 around there my old neighbor sold his for like 7
- 2:23:58grand, but it was not. It was Ana.
- 2:24:01It was repainted. How much do they go for now?
- 2:24:03I don't know. Like that same car.
- 2:24:05That same car, I mean with it set up right, all running good,
- 2:24:09making like 7-8 hundred, all clean, probably like 80.
- 2:24:16Yeah. 80. It's just because. 7080.
- 2:24:19It's the car itself, especially. If I converted it to AVV 160,
- 2:24:23the factory 6 speed and did all that other little stuff, I mean
- 2:24:27maybe even more because it was a it was.
- 2:24:30AI did not know that. Yeah, it was white too.
- 2:24:33That's not super common. Because I remember when these
- 2:24:35cars were like 40 and that was expensive.
- 2:24:37Yeah, my I had a friend with one in high school.
- 2:24:39I was like 17 and we just go drive around his Mark 4 Supra.
- 2:24:43Let's see like like. I well.
- 2:24:47I got to, I got to ride one, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:24:49Drunk off the four loco. I was in one, I think.
- 2:24:51I've been in one of those. I mean my my corny favorite
- 2:24:54cars, R34 GTR. And like two years ago when I
- 2:24:56saw those prices, I was like, well, not getting one of those.
- 2:24:59Ever. And they are nice.
- 2:25:00I just tuned to GTT at the shop and it's a step up from a 33.
- 2:25:06I like 30 threes a lot too. I like 30 threes.
- 2:25:08But 30 twos? I don't know.
- 2:25:10They feel like just the same tin can that an S13.
- 2:25:12Yeah. Like thank you.
- 2:25:13For the amount of money I can't justify.
- 2:25:15I do not like R30 twos, I just call them Fat Ass Chassis. 30
- 2:25:19fours are. Pretty nice.
- 2:25:21Car from the others. But I still feel like I'm in a
- 2:25:23maxima from 2006 when I'm in R34.
- 2:25:25I don't feel like I'm much better.
- 2:25:26Yeah, I don't feel like I'm in $100,000 car.
- 2:25:28Right. Yeah, still for the rate for
- 2:25:30what they're going for, I would buy an R35, all that which.
- 2:25:33Sucks 'cause I really hate those cars, but yeah.
- 2:25:35I used to love them one day when I was a kid and I saw one for
- 2:25:38the first time because I was like, Oh my God, the GTR
- 2:25:41stateside. Like I don't know anything about
- 2:25:43Skylines. They go firmly against what I
- 2:25:46like in a car, but just a for a nice, fun, fast daily driver.
- 2:25:51Yeah, maybe it's the eight, maybe the age is setting in, but
- 2:25:54I'm like all drive automatic. Just get in and step on the the
- 2:25:58gas and it goes. The age is setting in.
- 2:26:00But you know what? It I feel like.
- 2:26:03I don't like right hand drive, so that's the one downside for
- 2:26:05the R34 for me, because I fucking hate driving right hand
- 2:26:07drive here because it's just like everything's fucked.
- 2:26:09I'm like, I can't see behind. I, you know, I can't go to
- 2:26:13McDonald's. I'm just problem.
- 2:26:14I'm. I'm sorry.
- 2:26:15I'm totally just thinking about the first time I saw an R35 GTR.
- 2:26:18Like the fucking. I just totally removed that car
- 2:26:22was so cool when it came out here.
- 2:26:24Now that I think about it, there was nothing before.
- 2:26:26That. They were really techie.
- 2:26:27They were definitely like, they look futuristic, yeah.
- 2:26:30And there was They came. Out.
- 2:26:31My first thought was they're not stick shift.
- 2:26:34That was it. Yeah, that it was automatic.
- 2:26:36I didn't like it immediately as a kid.
- 2:26:38And now I'm like, yeah, I could drive around normal.
- 2:26:41I've also gotten the drive in tune a variety of cars with dual
- 2:26:45clutch translations and now I'm like this is actually pretty
- 2:26:48sweet. It's.
- 2:26:48Sweet. That was going to be the one
- 2:26:50thing. The first time I drove one of
- 2:26:51those and I got on the gas and I felt the clutch, like, engaged.
- 2:26:55I was like, OK, that was kind of cool.
- 2:26:57Once you've it feels like a manual.
- 2:26:58Yeah, it feels like a manual. And it shifts so incredibly
- 2:27:01fast. They come back to my friend at
- 2:27:04red Races, Eric Magnusson Mainline Motorsports.
- 2:27:08He has an E46M3 and he wanted to go to class up so he was LS3 but
- 2:27:13he wanted to use an E9 E 90 DCT 7 speed with it.
- 2:27:18Looked around a little bit, different trans controllers,
- 2:27:20decided to go with a Max ECU to do both and it also works with
- 2:27:25the BMWABSI think that was a big factor, I forget if that was.
- 2:27:30That was like a thing that had to be.
- 2:27:32Yeah, he wants. He wants that.
- 2:27:35I forget heard. That so he's got a BMW trans.
- 2:27:37It was, yeah. The seven speed DCT with a
- 2:27:39cammed LS3 and he still had the 444 rear gear in it.
- 2:27:43So 7th gear is 1 to 1. So that's short gearing,
- 2:27:47especially with 400 horsepower and 400 torque.
- 2:27:50Maybe even more. Once the Cam was in an holy shit
- 2:27:52bananas dude and it was shift so you just stomp the throttle.
- 2:27:56Just Bah Bah Bah Bah Bah. Every gear just fuck straight up
- 2:27:59to limiter and 7th like it was so fast.
- 2:28:01That's here's here's. Something this would be kind of
- 2:28:03fun in A streetcar. It didn't work out.
- 2:28:05I thought it would overheat 2030 minutes into a into a race.
- 2:28:09He's back to AT56. But that that was one of the
- 2:28:13experiences where I was like, all right, these, these, these
- 2:28:16dual clutch transmissions are pretty rad.
- 2:28:17My brother has a fucking Kia Forte, OK, OK.
- 2:28:22It's the first one in the He's the first one out of the
- 2:28:24siblings to like get a new car because he hurt his back and he
- 2:28:27was like, I can't fucking be out of work because I can't work on
- 2:28:30the car and get to work. So he bought a new car.
- 2:28:32It's a Kia, but it's a Keo with a dual clutch trans and like,
- 2:28:37it's somewhat peppy of a car weirded me out.
- 2:28:40I was like, yo, why did you do that?
- 2:28:42He's like, dude, I just drive around normal now and if I wanna
- 2:28:45fucking like just flip around for a little bit, the dual
- 2:28:47clutch trans impress the shit out of me.
- 2:28:50And that's just a normal it's probably everyday car.
- 2:28:53That's probably 2000. I see tons of art technology in
- 2:28:56that fucking thing. And like, it's it's like
- 2:28:58entertaining like I'm like, wow, this is like, what?
- 2:29:02Time. Yeah, I feel like I'd love to
- 2:29:03just have that and you know, attach some cool sounding engine
- 2:29:06to it, like a Jay-Z or something and have Oh yeah, battles and
- 2:29:09just imagine them in AGT. Car.
- 2:29:10So I never So I never gave a shit about any of that shit,
- 2:29:14really. Like, I knew it was cool, but
- 2:29:15like I it's still not enough. Then I saw, wasn't it Dai
- 2:29:18Yoshihara's car or something? Did you see that on YouTube?
- 2:29:21Check this out on YouTube. It's AI think he he had Grady
- 2:29:24build him like an R33, but they have some kind of crazy fucking.
- 2:29:28Sequential in it. Yeah dude.
- 2:29:30So that's another add that to the it's got answer to the
- 2:29:33question cars that have really cool transmissions like
- 2:29:36sequential especially if I can put a strain gauge on it and let
- 2:29:40the ECU do an ignition cut. So like a a dog engagement
- 2:29:43transmission will go into any gear it.
- 2:29:45Was that with an air shifter in this car?
- 2:29:48That's. Dude, I don't know.
- 2:29:49Bro, I don't watch car videos. I saw that.
- 2:29:52I was like, I need to watch this.
- 2:29:53You watching him drive that shit and just you hear the RB and
- 2:29:56then he just fucking boom boom. That might be another way to
- 2:29:59phrase this question. Is like cars that ruin you
- 2:30:01forever. Like you get into a car with a
- 2:30:03sequential gearbox. Like you can I I posted a video
- 2:30:07a while ago. It's an H pattern, G Force and
- 2:30:09Tony's car. But like As for an example of a
- 2:30:11dog, that's an age pattern but for a dog engagement
- 2:30:13transmission. The second it unloads you can
- 2:30:16pull to the next gear. You don't have to lift off,
- 2:30:18throttle or anything. I just I hit it in first gear
- 2:30:21and pull back as soon as it touches Rev limit, boom, second
- 2:30:24gear push forward and just hold it forward the whole time. 3rd,
- 2:30:284th actual. Stick.
- 2:30:30Or it's a It's AG force, force, speed.
- 2:30:32Like what's in every drift car. Yeah, a lot of NASCAR back.
- 2:30:36So he yeah, I don't know what trans they had in this car, but
- 2:30:38he they did have the option to use.
- 2:30:40They They had I. Don't think it was AH Pad, I
- 2:30:42think it was a regular. If it's air shifted, it can it
- 2:30:45can auto. Dude, it was just a cool setup.
- 2:30:47I was like, I would. I would.
- 2:30:49Fucking goose. He's got that Samson as shit.
- 2:30:53Maybe that's no, it was. Die Kangushi has the older Die
- 2:30:56has a crazy one too, but I know which one you're talking about.
- 2:30:59I don't know what it is but. You got to watch those videos.
- 2:31:01That shit was crazy. Matt Predmore had first a
- 2:31:04Samsona and then an HTK. Samsonas you can read online
- 2:31:09enabled an HTK. 2. JVTI GT40 GTX 40 or something
- 2:31:186700 on ethanol just car and. Just.
- 2:31:24Like I. Need this transmission.
- 2:31:27Dude, the driveline noise. When it's like, intentional,
- 2:31:31Yeah, when it's intentional noise, it's sick.
- 2:31:35I say intentional because this my trans made.
- 2:31:37That noise for a little while. And it was because I was, I set
- 2:31:41the clutch up wrong and it was just, I'm like, yo, yeah, this
- 2:31:46is broken. I mean, I guess that's kind of
- 2:31:48cool because maybe it's something is cooler with paddle
- 2:31:52shifting and air shifting, 'cause I always just think
- 2:31:55clutch is like. I mean, you can even too cool.
- 2:31:58You can have a a DCT and throw a clutch pedal in with an
- 2:32:01electronic switch and it'll disengage so you can treat it.
- 2:32:05Like a clutch kick, yeah. There's a couple people doing
- 2:32:07that now. Yeah, I've heard of that.
- 2:32:09Yeah. Those BMW transmissions are
- 2:32:12fucking sick too. Yeah, the ones you're talking
- 2:32:13about, Yeah. And they're cheap.
- 2:32:15They're actually, yeah, you can do that for.
- 2:32:17Isn't that a? Reasonable price.
- 2:32:19A ZF still. I don't know what transit is,
- 2:32:21but I'm just thinking of like the newer like.
- 2:32:23A No, no no. The.
- 2:32:24Newer I heard is not actually a dual clutch.
- 2:32:29Yeah, that's. Something like conventional
- 2:32:31auto, that's the 88, the ZF80HP, it's in everything.
- 2:32:35That's what's in like the new super, uh, the newer BMWs.
- 2:32:38It shifts ultra fast. Couple companies have figured
- 2:32:40out how to control it, so there's more options coming to
- 2:32:45the aftermarket. Harnessing the energy.
- 2:32:48Yeah, and that's why like you know, a super will make with a
- 2:32:52tune down pipe intake, you know like 400 horse and 4:50 to 500
- 2:32:58torque. Depends on how aggressive you
- 2:33:00get. Casually.
- 2:33:01Just a little over 400, right up towards 500 torque.
- 2:33:06They are so fast just because of the transmission.
- 2:33:08They're real. They have really good
- 2:33:10aerodynamics, they're real slippery.
- 2:33:11But that transmission makes anything feel way faster than
- 2:33:15it. Is so interesting.
- 2:33:18Yeah, no, people are using those, and I've been seeing them
- 2:33:20a lot more. I just realized Rich asked a
- 2:33:23bunch of questions here. Let's see what Rich is up to.
- 2:33:25I heard Rich has an awesome lawn mower.
- 2:33:28I heard Rich was supposed to come on this podcast.
- 2:33:30When you coming on, Rich? I've noticed that when you bully
- 2:33:33people they don't come. They don't come.
- 2:33:34So maybe stop doing that. Rich please come on the podcast.
- 2:33:37Rich I'm. Just going to keep bullying you.
- 2:33:40Other than drinking and driving, what are your other hobbies?
- 2:33:43That's terrible. That's really about it.
- 2:33:48You ever see those videos on Instagram now where it's like,
- 2:33:51fucking? I don't think.
- 2:33:52Driving more fun and it's like. Yeah.
- 2:33:56I think I sent them that one earlier today.
- 2:33:58I was going to say your meme game is pretty fucking good.
- 2:34:01Man, yeah. Sometimes I think like my
- 2:34:03account is slowly trending more towards a business account.
- 2:34:07But also treading towards a meme account.
- 2:34:08Share. Yeah.
- 2:34:09Sense in my story, Yeah. Good engagements.
- 2:34:12I don't know. I think I want to keep doing it.
- 2:34:14Dude, you. I don't know where you get your
- 2:34:15memes from, but they're like deep cut memes that you don't
- 2:34:18see. Like, they're not general pop
- 2:34:20memes. Some stuff.
- 2:34:21I used to go to Reddit a lot for some, but I think I've I've
- 2:34:23trained my Instagram algorithm to the point where I get
- 2:34:26insanity on. It Are you getting cartel gram?
- 2:34:29Cartel Gram what's? That no.
- 2:34:31You mean like where you just seen people get killed all?
- 2:34:33Day. No, no.
- 2:34:34Cartel gram is like, I don't fucking know.
- 2:34:37Diego keeps sending it and now it's all over my timeline like
- 2:34:41it's a fucking video of like, drone missiles getting made.
- 2:34:46Why the fuck do I need this on my timeline?
- 2:34:48And all the comments are like. Like the American military
- 2:34:51military industrial complex. And then the then the comments.
- 2:34:54Why am I getting this on my timeline like?
- 2:34:56There's. Other people concerned and or
- 2:34:58it's like cartel gram or it's like pill pressing like why am I
- 2:35:02seeing this? OK, that makes more sense for
- 2:35:04cartel gram. I guess or like Cessna videos
- 2:35:07all the ingredients. Andy's just got meme gram but
- 2:35:12like. What kind of memes?
- 2:35:13You get on Reddit, you know there's that's where they start.
- 2:35:16If you go on Reddit, you see all the memes that are on the meme
- 2:35:19pages on Instagram. Like just two days sooner.
- 2:35:22That's what. That's what I've heard, yeah.
- 2:35:24But now I feel like it's rotating around because my
- 2:35:27friend Dan loves Reddit. He'll send me shit.
- 2:35:30And I'm like, dude, I saw yesterday on Instagram, Come on
- 2:35:33bro, get with, get with the times.
- 2:35:34It's like I feel like it's slowly wrong.
- 2:35:36He's sorting by top. You gotta go new.
- 2:35:39You gotta you gotta check. I wish I could remember one of
- 2:35:41the memes he had. But dude, they're good.
- 2:35:42Like you just follow him. Because of the memes at least,
- 2:35:45yeah. Favorite.
- 2:35:46Favorite. Wait, are we gonna call like
- 2:35:48answer or that question answer? I would say yeah.
- 2:35:51I mean, he loves transmissions. That's it.
- 2:35:53Oh wait, what was the other? Question What are other hobbies?
- 2:35:57Aside from drinking and driving, there was nothing about
- 2:35:59transmissions. I have, yeah.
- 2:36:02I don't have much time other than if I'm not working my day
- 2:36:06job or tuning, I try to put my cars together.
- 2:36:09Oh OK, Like my drift car's still not wired up, so I need to spend
- 2:36:15some time doing that. It's just cold.
- 2:36:16It's cold ish dude. You don't even don't even got
- 2:36:18it. You don't got to fucking tell me
- 2:36:20twice. Even have a heater and I'm like,
- 2:36:21yeah, I have to get cold before it warms up.
- 2:36:24I don't know about all that. That's Karl's struggle.
- 2:36:26Right now I hate that shit. Next follow up question from
- 2:36:31Rich. How much do you love Sr. 20s?
- 2:36:33I guess like a one to 10 scale. Is it like a 12?
- 2:36:36So. Let's say.
- 2:36:38I've sold this on, you know, I thought I might actually get
- 2:36:41asked something like this today. Like favorite engine or
- 2:36:43something. Yeah, I mean, the best engine is
- 2:36:45the one that fits your goals well.
- 2:36:48Most importantly being inside of your budget.
- 2:36:51Like see, too many like S Rs. I had Sr. swapped S chassis, but
- 2:36:57I'd spend like $2000 on putting an Sr. in an S14.
- 2:37:00Now you can't. I had an S14 like Cos 2A, Apexi
- 2:37:03coils, exhaust, intercooler intake, S15, SRHKS clutch All
- 2:37:10said and done I was $4400 another car.
- 2:37:13That's crazy. You know, because I bought one,
- 2:37:17I traded. I traded for an automatic KA
- 2:37:19base model, but it was clean. No rust, no accidents, super
- 2:37:24clean. And then I bought a rusted out
- 2:37:29car that had all the aftermarket parts on it and I mean falling
- 2:37:32apart. Combined with two.
- 2:37:34And yeah, I put side by side in the garage and I swapped
- 2:37:37everything cool from the one everything stocked from the
- 2:37:40other. Sold the one automatic KA
- 2:37:43falling apart from rust. Well, actually, I traded it for
- 2:37:46an Audi A4, but then I had and I should have never, I should have
- 2:37:51just kept that car, You know, I sold it.
- 2:37:55That sounds like a come up I would.
- 2:37:57Under $5000 for a S15 Sr. swap 240.
- 2:38:00I'm sure the thing would have been just fine still today if I
- 2:38:03just kept it, but you know. Nowadays, that's 15 grand, 20
- 2:38:08grand. Why would I ever spend that
- 2:38:09like? So I said my, my, my VQ ended up
- 2:38:12in cost up 'cause that's 14. Initially he was looking at the
- 2:38:17turbulent KA, Priced it out. You know, you go with the 5K
- 2:38:20pretty quick, yeah, unless you're buying used stuff and
- 2:38:23throwing something together, which he didn't, you know,
- 2:38:25didn't want to throw something together.
- 2:38:26You'd have to constantly be replacing stuff or you know,
- 2:38:30dealing with stuff that didn't work.
- 2:38:31But so looking at like new parts, as you know, cheaper new
- 2:38:35parts, Nothing too fancy, like Borg Runner, Turbo Cast
- 2:38:39Manifold, nothing exotic. Mega Squirt, ECU.
- 2:38:43But I ended up since I was taking the VQ and CD out of my
- 2:38:48car. I'm like well look at it this
- 2:38:50way. You get 250 wheel horsepower,
- 2:38:52250 wheel torque and the better transmission and I sold it to
- 2:38:59him for less. It's about the going rate a
- 2:39:02little cheap but for what he sold his KA and trans for You
- 2:39:05can buy Ade with CD all day and then he bought mounts at ISR
- 2:39:10makes headers at ISR makes. All said and done is 2500 bucks
- 2:39:14250 horsepower. It's at least 100 more than the
- 2:39:17K made. But it sounds like a VQ.
- 2:39:19It does sound like the Devil's Trumpet.
- 2:39:21It's not great, but have you heard an Sr. with with ISR blast
- 2:39:25pipes? Yeah, that is.
- 2:39:28I will just say it don't. That is worse.
- 2:39:30No, it's not. It is.
- 2:39:31It's not. Horrible.
- 2:39:32It is not worse, but. Except for when it's like not
- 2:39:35doing this like. You could make a.
- 2:39:37VQ Worse type of shit. You don't need to have that
- 2:39:40raspy, terrible exhaust. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:39:43You can pick something that's not.
- 2:39:44Much better. And it doesn't have to go out
- 2:39:47that far. You know what I mean?
- 2:39:49You know when they make it like this?
- 2:39:50Far The ankle killer. What is it?
- 2:39:52The ankle fucking. We had a name for that back
- 2:39:54then. For me, I'm just like we were.
- 2:39:56Just walking to that in the pits.
- 2:39:57What if you had to like wall drag and or what if you wanted
- 2:40:00to like wall drag something? Oh yeah, you're no, the exhaust
- 2:40:02is coming off. Somebody had that at E Town,
- 2:40:05like got hung up in someone's front wheel.
- 2:40:06It was following them and then it was pointing out directly.
- 2:40:10I mean just I remember Justin's only stuck out like this much
- 2:40:13from his bumper and that shit got hit the wall and fucking
- 2:40:16came off and just dragging the whole way like it doesn't take
- 2:40:19much. Blast pipes look cool though.
- 2:40:22I will say that. To an extent.
- 2:40:24Back on the Sr. thing, Ave. head on one of those is it fixes
- 2:40:29basically everything I don't like about that engine.
- 2:40:31OK. It's the problem is rockers the
- 2:40:36the Det heads are just knock prone.
- 2:40:38Yeah, you. A ported VE head.
- 2:40:41It might as well be AK-20 like it.
- 2:40:43Why do you say they're knock prone?
- 2:40:45They just they love to detonate the swish.
- 2:40:47Pads and all that bullshit up there.
- 2:40:49Yeah, I think the quench areas you see a lot of the ported
- 2:40:51heads of those all smoothed out. But how many SRS have you taken
- 2:40:54apart that look all like dinged up pie panned inside.
- 2:40:56You know the head gasket won't even seal anymore because the
- 2:40:59fire rings this. The deck of the block will pound
- 2:41:03it out and then from detonation. Yeah, I know the deck of a block
- 2:41:06is pretty suspect around where they around where it combusts, I
- 2:41:10guess. Always looks like the metal's
- 2:41:11just eroding away, but. Yeah, it's just.
- 2:41:13That's from Ping Knock debt, whatever.
- 2:41:15Yeah, most of the time. But VE heads not that sensitive.
- 2:41:21I know it's it's a pretty cool mod, but it's just it's
- 2:41:24especially nowadays so. But again that that doesn't help
- 2:41:26the price that's. Yeah.
- 2:41:27You're still spending way more money than you'd have to with
- 2:41:31plenty of other options out there.
- 2:41:32So your answer is really, whatever is the right answer
- 2:41:35for. Yeah, the right engine for that,
- 2:41:37Yeah. Sr. is not my favorite engine,
- 2:41:39but I would be. Depending on What Car I had, I
- 2:41:42would have a different answer. Wait, you gotta say one to 10
- 2:41:44though? Where's?
- 2:41:44Where's the Sr. stand? Hmm.
- 2:41:50It's lightweight. I mean, it makes good power,
- 2:41:52it's pretty easy and it lives if you treat it right.
- 2:41:54You're in an Sr. shop right now. I wanna put it, I'll put it
- 2:41:57pretty high up. I don't give it like A6 or A7.
- 2:42:01Okay, you're at 7:00. Yeah, I don't. 7 is.
- 2:42:04Disclaimer I'm not a big fan of of four cylinders no, that's why
- 2:42:08Yeah yeah sounds 2 liter turbo was.
- 2:42:10You're a six cylinder guy. But that but.
- 2:42:12I'm less into, yeah V6V8 inline 6V10.
- 2:42:17I'd love to see more of those. The Evo 4 cylinder sound though
- 2:42:20is just not like the same. You know what I mean?
- 2:42:22It definitely it has this like crazier sound to me because the
- 2:42:25gearing and it just hits like so much differently.
- 2:42:28It's just. Evo Everyone always wants that
- 2:42:30Evo sound. They're pretty rat.
- 2:42:32You just put an upgraded turbo on them, run like 26 or 27 lbs
- 2:42:36of boost on pump gas and they're fine and just make 500 on pump.
- 2:42:40Yep. If you could do it with an Sr.
- 2:42:41So that's the other thing. I started with that.
- 2:42:43Then I was like, these things blow up for nothing.
- 2:42:46Like that sucks. Yeah, it does suck.
- 2:42:49If you could crack them up like that and abuse them like a 4G,
- 2:42:52I'd have a total different. Rating Sorry Carl, Real quick CA
- 2:42:5418. What are your opinions?
- 2:42:56It's like you take the worst aspects of the RB and the Sr.
- 2:42:59And put them on one and then give it less displacement than
- 2:43:04it deserves. Yeah.
- 2:43:05It's so tiny on the stick. If that was a 2O, what would you
- 2:43:07think of it? Oh man, I don't know.
- 2:43:11The head sucks, I guess, right? Is that what it?
- 2:43:12Is RB heads aren't bad. OK, And that's basically what
- 2:43:15that is. Yeah, but.
- 2:43:17The whole thing is an RB when I. Yeah, as soon as they cut them
- 2:43:20the two, everything about the casting looks the same.
- 2:43:23I wonder if they're strong. I don't know if they're
- 2:43:25actually. Like I just thought it looked
- 2:43:27so. Cute.
- 2:43:27Ever have a way to find out if it would ever make enough power
- 2:43:30to hurt itself? They're OK.
- 2:43:33I mean, the car came in, you know, that's pretty cool.
- 2:43:38Yeah. Like a silly.
- 2:43:40Lady, yeah. That'd be something, or 180SX,
- 2:43:43whatever. Yeah, I don't know man.
- 2:43:45Something about the CA it it keeps me interested in it, but I
- 2:43:49don't know. I kind of like, like, yeah, I
- 2:43:52like things that just work, you know, more of like a function
- 2:43:55over form type. But there's definitely something
- 2:43:58to, you know, something nostalgic about.
- 2:44:00Yeah. Error.
- 2:44:02Correct stuff, you know, especially if you're more Street
- 2:44:05car like. Yeah, exactly something.
- 2:44:07In the car, that's what it should be.
- 2:44:09Yeah, you don't need an air shifter on it or anything, yeah.
- 2:44:12This one's from Sean. Ask Andy about his camper
- 2:44:15trailer rig and why it's the best.
- 2:44:18Do you have one of these things too?
- 2:44:20I just have. So I got a when I thought I was
- 2:44:23going to be drifting again. It's like I can't do sleeping in
- 2:44:26the truck cab like I used to sleeping in the race car and I
- 2:44:30have two dogs. So it's more for the dogs, you
- 2:44:33know? They got to have somewhere to
- 2:44:34hang out. And not get the heat.
- 2:44:35So I got a slide in truck bed camper.
- 2:44:39Like the one where it like is the shape of it.
- 2:44:42Yeah, I just like you. Just back under.
- 2:44:43It and then drop it down. It's.
- 2:44:44On Jacks, yeah. I don't know if more people
- 2:44:49don't do it. That would tote.
- 2:44:51With the like, the Dooley has plenty of capacity and it's just
- 2:44:55regular form. I got a it took me a little
- 2:44:58while. I got kind of lucky.
- 2:44:59I was looking for a very specific model that has a
- 2:45:03generator and a bathroom. So it has a shower and
- 2:45:05everything in it and cannot say enough about getting done
- 2:45:09pulling into your pit and just hop in the camper and take a
- 2:45:12shower. That's crazy fucking great.
- 2:45:14And even if I'm parked right next to the shower as a Club
- 2:45:17Lewis or whatever, it's still better.
- 2:45:18Yeah, I just walk. Around somebody took a full
- 2:45:21blown shit in there this past. Year, right.
- 2:45:23You don't have to worry about. Land mines.
- 2:45:25Land mines. No.
- 2:45:27Take a shower. Walk around naked in my camper,
- 2:45:30Grab a cold beer out of the fridge, hang out in there.
- 2:45:33All right. Note to self Don't be looking
- 2:45:34those, yeah. Knock on Andy, I don't have
- 2:45:37trailer before you fucking go in.
- 2:45:39Look through the windows at your own risk, yeah?
- 2:45:41That's insane. That's cool though.
- 2:45:43And then AC, even between sessions on a hot summer day,
- 2:45:49get in there and it's 60 something degrees.
- 2:45:51Unreal. Fuck, I feel like and it was,
- 2:45:53you know, you can get those 4/4 to $6000, you get something like
- 2:45:57that. But that's the goal I need to
- 2:45:59now I have a utility body that traded my stock dually bed for
- 2:46:03utility body. Need to cut it down and modify
- 2:46:06it a bit so the camper will fit into it right?
- 2:46:08That's about your truck, so utilize the.
- 2:46:10You're trying to keep the use of some of it.
- 2:46:13So I'm just adding storage space so I can carry like extra fuel
- 2:46:16for my generator fans for the dyno.
- 2:46:19So when I can, you know, ideally I'll be able to go somewhere
- 2:46:23like up here, or you know, if I can tune to E Town again and
- 2:46:27just show up with the dyno sleeping the camper there.
- 2:46:30Yeah, that would be a. Set up.
- 2:46:31I'm just. I'm slowly turning into a carny,
- 2:46:34yeah. You're an overlander but Tuning
- 2:46:37edition. I'm just like a horsepower
- 2:46:39carny. Honestly.
- 2:46:42Fucking good for you, dude. I know Nomad.
- 2:46:44If I. Could work full remed.
- 2:46:46In my day job I would try to buy a bigger camper and yeah, do I
- 2:46:49go to You're going this time of year, just keep tuning all year.
- 2:46:53The cars you know follow wherever the season's only.
- 2:46:55You think you'll end up doing that, or you think that's still
- 2:46:57just the, the, the? Man, I'm always back and forth
- 2:47:01between those two ideas. Like I did the full time work at
- 2:47:05Freedom Tune for two years, try it out, get away from the
- 2:47:09corporate thing. Just like, oh this soul sucking
- 2:47:12corporate job. Then when I'm not there, doesn't
- 2:47:14take long and I'm like, you know, it's really nice to just
- 2:47:16have benefits and chill and working on cars is a huge pain
- 2:47:19in the ass. Yeah.
- 2:47:21Thank you for that. I have a desk job.
- 2:47:25I. Dude, And now I'm back on my
- 2:47:27desk job all the time. I'm like, you know, maybe I
- 2:47:29could just tune full time. Dude.
- 2:47:31But I don't think I get away from doing.
- 2:47:33I don't know if I can get away from doing both.
- 2:47:35Your little, your little solution earlier where it was
- 2:47:38like remote full time, yeah that would be with your mobile dyno.
- 2:47:44I'm three days in office right now.
- 2:47:46For a long time I was full remote, but my work's pretty
- 2:47:49flexible. I feel like if I was like, it's
- 2:47:51winter, I don't go to Florida, you know, for a month.
- 2:47:55I think they work with me. I don't know.
- 2:47:56That's across that bridge when we get there.
- 2:47:58Dude, that's pretty good. So you might you might just do.
- 2:48:01Both. If you could do full.
- 2:48:02Remote. I think you could we could talk
- 2:48:04about that after we don't want. I I don't like I don't like
- 2:48:07putting that too much in the airwaves.
- 2:48:08But I did want to. This is the 4th time I think
- 2:48:12that this person has asked this question.
- 2:48:14I think and it's it's unfortunately not for the guest
- 2:48:16but known of B2K. How did Frankie and Carl meet?
- 2:48:19This time? It's in all caps.
- 2:48:20I'm assuming it's the urgency. I was buying head studs.
- 2:48:22I met Frankie. I also saw Frankie on the
- 2:48:24highway once when he was driving his S13.
- 2:48:27And other than that, I just met you through Chris.
- 2:48:29That's it. Yeah, I I remember when I think
- 2:48:31about you, I think about you and Chris.
- 2:48:33You guys are always together in my mind.
- 2:48:36You, Chris, brought me here. I was scared shitless.
- 2:48:38There was that black leather couch that was out there.
- 2:48:40Everyone was sitting there. Yes, it was it.
- 2:48:43Was a casting code. It was not a black weapon, it.
- 2:48:45Wasn't even black. It wasn't like that.
- 2:48:47What color was it it? Was beige.
- 2:48:49It was. Beige.
- 2:48:50We found it in the street somewhere and just threw it in
- 2:48:52here. Regardless, Miyagi and them were
- 2:48:54sitting there. Everybody was wearing black.
- 2:48:57Everybody was like kind of hanging out.
- 2:48:59Everybody was way more happier back then.
- 2:49:01Not really like, Yeah, like you guys were chilling like it was.
- 2:49:04Cool. Because it that's because it
- 2:49:05wasn't a business. It was.
- 2:49:06Cool. To be here like I was like, Oh
- 2:49:08my gosh, like was. This back in like, 2016?
- 2:49:11Yeah, that's when. Happy memories.
- 2:49:12Came a little bit before that. 1617.
- 2:49:14Like everything sucks. 15/20/16. Yeah, that was.
- 2:49:18It that was definitely. It like Fetty Wap Trap Queen
- 2:49:21just came out. 17. Oh yeah dude. 16 or 17 is when
- 2:49:25we got this spot, so it was definitely around then.
- 2:49:28But sixteen I. Think those were the good?
- 2:49:30Times I was buying head studs from Frankie and I thought that
- 2:49:33it was kind of cool maybe that there was like a place for me to
- 2:49:37buy head studs. Yeah, I think.
- 2:49:39Chris had to transact 'cause I was nervous as fuck.
- 2:49:42That's all you know. There's something to brick and
- 2:49:44mortar. Yeah, I've always been into
- 2:49:46that. But I as the years went on
- 2:49:48through me having my own business, I was like, it seems
- 2:49:50like it's more and more impossible to have a fucking
- 2:49:52speed shop or something. I don't know if you can make any
- 2:49:54money at it, but it is, yeah. You know, even when I first got
- 2:49:58in, that wasn't an option. I never, you know, it's always
- 2:50:00buy stuff online now it's easy to buy stuff online, so.
- 2:50:02That's way too easy too be kind. Of cool to go.
- 2:50:04Just look at things like it's a mall for.
- 2:50:07Auto parts, that's kind of what we're going for at this point.
- 2:50:09Speaking of which, have you ever seen or heard of the Morgantown
- 2:50:12Auto Mall? The what?
- 2:50:14It's old. It used to be called like Mom's
- 2:50:15Mall. It was actual shopping mall and
- 2:50:20something with like Mannheim auction was going to buy it.
- 2:50:23So the landlord asked the businesses to move out.
- 2:50:28Deal fell through. Now he's got an empty mall.
- 2:50:30So now you just you can store or sell your cars on consignment in
- 2:50:35the mall and all the stores are just full of all kinds of
- 2:50:38classic You name every car. Where is this PA?
- 2:50:41Morgantown. Where the fuck is that?
- 2:50:44Morgantown, PA. Like if you're headed to
- 2:50:47freedom. Like another exit off the
- 2:50:50Turnpike. And people just bring their cars
- 2:50:52there and they just leave them inside.
- 2:50:53Dude, it's. You can if you just want to
- 2:50:55store your car not in the front display area.
- 2:50:57It's just somewhere in the back. You know, mall wings of the
- 2:51:00mall, inside climate controlled. It's like 130 bucks a month,
- 2:51:05100. And 40 bucks a month.
- 2:51:06Mega cheap for climate controlled storage.
- 2:51:10So there's just and then there's stuff stored outside too.
- 2:51:12Just wild stuff, you know, like boats, trucks, all kinds of
- 2:51:15weirdness. Every local, like weirdo car guy
- 2:51:18that's been collecting stuff forever, like has something
- 2:51:20stored. There there's places like that
- 2:51:22here like. I don't want to say where it is,
- 2:51:23but. Yeah, I think I know you're.
- 2:51:25Talking about, you know what I'm talking.
- 2:51:26About this place Saturday, Sunday open to the public.
- 2:51:28Go there like 8 to one at 1:00 PM or 8:00 AM or 1:00 PM on the
- 2:51:31weekend and you can just go browse.
- 2:51:34That's a YouTube video right there.
- 2:51:36Oh, it'd be great for that. Tell me know when you're going.
- 2:51:38Dude, let's go the. Casino across the street we.
- 2:51:40Can. Let's go, Let's go.
- 2:51:42Let's go. Just make a whole day out of no
- 2:51:43no. No, no.
- 2:51:44Because we've been playing blackjack at night, like in the
- 2:51:46Faction court. It's crazy.
- 2:51:47Oh really? Yeah.
- 2:51:48But I do want to take a second to say thank you for coming by,
- 2:51:52because I did want to say that you came from a few hours.
- 2:51:56Away. And it is cold and the whole
- 2:51:59heat, the no heat on the feet thing and the wiper thing.
- 2:52:03Like fuck. And thank you for blessing us
- 2:52:05with some serious knowledge. I got us.
- 2:52:08I swear to you, this is probably the most one of the most
- 2:52:10knowledgeable. Now when I look at Turbos
- 2:52:14specifically, yeah, like I've asked that Question Time and
- 2:52:17time again. I'm like, what the fuck do the
- 2:52:19numbers? Mean and everyone's like, I
- 2:52:20don't know. Bro, just get bigger ones like.
- 2:52:23Just get the the bigger. Ones get the larger.
- 2:52:25You get the small one. Yeah, like, but you ever?
- 2:52:29Want because I also, you know, have a lot of different setups.
- 2:52:32I could show you Dino graphs of Oh yeah, something that might be
- 2:52:36like what you're looking for. Huh.
- 2:52:38Because you've just seen. I know a lot of shit, probably
- 2:52:41how many cars. Did you download?
- 2:52:43Yeah. How roughly?
- 2:52:44How many you think? My hard drive died last year, so
- 2:52:48I lost a bunch of files that I didn't have backed up.
- 2:52:52Like my entire history of tuning because I thought I had it
- 2:52:56backed up. But that got I tried to download
- 2:52:58that whole file off of Cloud Drive and it didn't work.
- 2:53:04It was corrupt too. So I was like, well, that's all
- 2:53:06of it. So I'm.
- 2:53:06Sentimental. I would feel so.
- 2:53:08Now I have a. Now I'm like a OneDrive.
- 2:53:11Microsoft everything automatically is updated like
- 2:53:14the way it was supposed to be the other drive.
- 2:53:16Just hoping Microsoft OneDrive is more reliable.
- 2:53:19We'll see but. Microsoft doesn't randomly get
- 2:53:21taken over and then you lose everything.
- 2:53:24Some sort of cyber attack? It's.
- 2:53:27Probably bigger problems. Than you were.
- 2:53:28Files but. Would you say it's like 1000?
- 2:53:32Way more. Way more a year.
- 2:53:33So this year? More than 1000.
- 2:53:35This year and only so, I got my dyno back because I had the
- 2:53:38trailer made over this last winter, I got it back mid June.
- 2:53:42Between June and end of October, I think I tuned like 40 cars
- 2:53:49just working Saturdays and Sundays and that's like not
- 2:53:52every weekend. Yeah, I was going to say not
- 2:53:54like fully. That's outside of my regular
- 2:53:57full time job. So tuning spots get filled up
- 2:54:00that quickly like. Yeah, I have like 7 or 8.
- 2:54:04Months out waiting, right? Now.
- 2:54:05Oh, OK, no, but I could, you know, Max will do like 3A day on
- 2:54:09the weekend and if something doesn't go right, like you might
- 2:54:12not get done and we're going to have to loop back around later
- 2:54:15on the schedule or something. But yeah, so that's, you know,
- 2:54:18you figure easy cars, five runs, difficult car might be like
- 2:54:23maybe, I don't know, twenty runs multiplied by 40, that's like 5.
- 2:54:28That's like 500 runs this year. Faction car with Power FC half
- 2:54:33of. This.
- 2:54:33Summer. I don't know, dude.
- 2:54:35I was like, Waggers was fast, that was.
- 2:54:36Like that was. He knows what he's doing you.
- 2:54:38Guys, you guys had like there was like 4 power FCS there SRS
- 2:54:42that day. It was just like I was running
- 2:54:44the same tune like through every car.
- 2:54:46Just do like a few runs, tweak it for that specific car.
- 2:54:50Yeah, Wags was the last car in the dyno.
- 2:54:51And you. That shit was good to go.
- 2:54:54Like you guys were all like, yeah, everyone's like GT28S.
- 2:54:57Yeah, like. Power.
- 2:54:58You know, all similar cars. Really easy to crank those out.
- 2:55:02We had some weird problems with Fuck, whose car was that?
- 2:55:04I guess it was Wags's car. Ages car, remember?
- 2:55:06Yeah. What was that car we had here
- 2:55:07with? I think it was Wag.
- 2:55:09It was Wags's car with the TPS. What the fuck was that problem?
- 2:55:12Do you remember? Dude, I don't know if I ever
- 2:55:14told you. About.
- 2:55:15Oh, I remember that. Yeah, the TPS wasn't right.
- 2:55:17Something with the TPS. They're flaky sometimes.
- 2:55:19We got we got that R34 GTT. It had a weird fault on the link
- 2:55:25for the TPS voltage dropping to the minimum and going to the
- 2:55:29maximum. I think this was on.
- 2:55:31Something got goofy there. This was our bad, but also
- 2:55:34because I know Chris kept checking the TPS at the sensor.
- 2:55:37Rotate it. It has to be in the right
- 2:55:39window. And you.
- 2:55:40But you can't check it at the sensor, you have to check it on
- 2:55:42the computer. It needs to be plugged in.
- 2:55:45Well, I mean the the reading it's you're getting on the
- 2:55:46computer was way different than the reading we were getting on
- 2:55:49the sensor. Depends on you have to be on the
- 2:55:51sensor ground and yeah. It was weird it.
- 2:55:53Could be different a little. Different, Yeah.
- 2:55:55So we changed it and matched definitely.
- 2:55:56Easier just if you have the commander, Yeah.
- 2:55:59Sensors see what you're whatever they call it in there.
- 2:56:02Yeah, that's kind of what we looked at.
- 2:56:04And I was like, this doesn't seem like it's going to the
- 2:56:05right thing. And then we changed that.
- 2:56:08I drove it down the street and it was like a totally different
- 2:56:10car. And I was like, bro, it was just
- 2:56:12this fucking sensor. This whole time.
- 2:56:14All we had to do was just, those are those problems where you're
- 2:56:17like chasing your tail for everything.
- 2:56:19We were checking the fuel system like.
- 2:56:21Yeah, dude. And that's.
- 2:56:24I see a lot of that. It started to get, especially
- 2:56:26with doing the 2D and getting so used to like EFI systems, the
- 2:56:29combination of stuff and like, oh, it doesn't seem to be
- 2:56:32hitting the idle strategy right? Like the Excel fuel seems wrong.
- 2:56:35Like the TPS sensor moves. Yeah, there'll be things that
- 2:56:38like. You get used.
- 2:56:40To it, I just recognize symptoms that have something in common
- 2:56:42because it's the thing that I look at all the time.
- 2:56:45I hate having you fix anything when I because when I bring a
- 2:56:47car to a dyno like or what I assume a tuner wants, when the
- 2:56:50car gets brought to a diner, dyno is they want everything to
- 2:56:53just be ready to go, give you the car, you do it and it's
- 2:56:58done. So we try our hardest to bring
- 2:56:59the cars to you like that, but then.
- 2:57:01There's always something, yeah, just don't be the guy that like
- 2:57:05drops it off from and hits me up.
- 2:57:07Says I have a customer that needs a tune.
- 2:57:08Drops the car off beginning of the day when I have other stuff
- 2:57:12on the schedule before that car, which they knew about, and left
- 2:57:15it in front of the dyno trailer with no battery in it, having
- 2:57:18never started up before and the kids just there.
- 2:57:21He got dropped off with his car. Like, I hope I can drive at
- 2:57:24home. I have no way home.
- 2:57:25I live 2 hours away and it's a skyline so it has the, you know,
- 2:57:29the Japanese little terminal. So I have to go cut the the
- 2:57:32battery cables, but you know, as long as you're not that.
- 2:57:34I try. I try to literally.
- 2:57:36Be That sounds horrible like you're.
- 2:57:38Probably doing that shit all the time too.
- 2:57:40Common sense type of shit like. I don't like to be one of those
- 2:57:43that make those posts too like I.
- 2:57:44Don't. Yeah, you never do.
- 2:57:46But you're you're an extremely pleasurable person to deal with.
- 2:57:49I try to be laid back because I feel like on the flip side,
- 2:57:53everybody, I hear a lot from other people.
- 2:57:54They're like, it's so nice to go to a tuner that's not like.
- 2:57:57Mad at the world? Yeah, it does happen.
- 2:57:59Like, yeah, I try to stay pretty laid back and just like, yeah,
- 2:58:03at the end of the day, like if I if your car is, I'm like, I can
- 2:58:07do all this, but I'm going to charge you this an hour.
- 2:58:09Yeah. And I don't have time for it
- 2:58:11right now. So it's going to sit here for a
- 2:58:12month. And yeah, that's all I can do.
- 2:58:15Let's. I'll do it, you know, every day.
- 2:58:17It's what? I was going to say is I hate
- 2:58:18having you deal with anything, but then at the same time I'm
- 2:58:20also like if Andy saw this problem right now, he probably
- 2:58:22know the answer to it in fucking 10 seconds.
- 2:58:24And then you feel like an idiot. People do message me a lot and
- 2:58:27I've been thinking about I need this like collected FAQ
- 2:58:30questions. Like get a lot, Yeah, do some
- 2:58:32good tutorials or just even write.
- 2:58:34I don't like to watch videos. I don't look at DIY videos.
- 2:58:38I like to have like maybe have a website with just.
- 2:58:40Yeah, if you had a website with AFA, like feels like a.
- 2:58:42Quick write up. Or what to do before your Dino?
- 2:58:45FAQ section Yeah, I definitely need the pre Dino.
- 2:58:48Yeah, freedom. We have that freedom, We have
- 2:58:50pre Dino Checklist. Yeah, they probably do an
- 2:58:51inspection too. I.
- 2:58:52Don't do a great job of sending that out, OK?
- 2:58:54I should do better at that. I also don't.
- 2:58:55I don't do a good job of get getting my waiver signed either.
- 2:58:58But. That's probably a little more
- 2:59:01important, yeah. Maybe step 1/2?
- 2:59:04Yeah, I mean, what's it? The waiver's probably just like
- 2:59:06if I blow this up, it's on you. Yeah, if anything, if your car
- 2:59:10blows up on my dyno, you owe me to clean the dyno off.
- 2:59:13That's great. It's not me.
- 2:59:16I like that waiver. Because like obviously if that
- 2:59:19happens, if I I work, I'm, I'm reasonable, but kind of protect
- 2:59:23yourself against those people that aren't reasonable and I
- 2:59:26don't know who's showing up, you know, so just try to keep it,
- 2:59:31reduce liability where possible because that's all it would
- 2:59:34take. Like, I'm not making any money
- 2:59:35at this. Like I paid 40K for the trailer.
- 2:59:39Yeah, I did not make 40K this year it I spent every weekend
- 2:59:44tuning and it cost me money to do it.
- 2:59:46Yeah, you're gonna. Be paying that off.
- 2:59:48For a bit I could just sell it and have a cool car and not
- 2:59:51drive around a truck with wipers stuck on with no.
- 2:59:55But it'll it'll have a shower attached to it eventually.
- 2:59:58It does it. Sometimes it has a shower.
- 3:00:00I try to tell people that, too. It's like we're not really
- 3:00:02making money here. I'm not making money, but I
- 3:00:03mean, I'm hiring my friends and everyone's making a living and
- 3:00:07we're OK and we're doing fun shit every day.
- 3:00:08So fun laid back stuff you like to do so people think it's the
- 3:00:13wrong impression that you know. If I'm sure you've seen it, they
- 3:00:16have a bill racked up for like 15 K and it's 10K in parts,
- 3:00:21yeah. They're like.
- 3:00:22You bought these parts? Yeah, that's And stops don't
- 3:00:26make a lot of money on parts. If if you're lucky, you get a
- 3:00:28little margin as you should. But a lot of times you're trying
- 3:00:32to match online pricing and stuff, which people don't
- 3:00:35understand. There's there's some value in
- 3:00:37the expertise of picking the right stuff, too.
- 3:00:39I tell everyone, if you're talking aftermarket parts,
- 3:00:41you're not making more than 30% ever and you're probably making
- 3:00:4420% if or less. Your best bet For most suppliers
- 3:00:49you might have 30% under retail, which you're probably going to
- 3:00:53have to sell map exactly, and if you buy enough volume you might
- 3:00:57hit 30% on a margin. That, yeah.
- 3:00:59You have to have like. Price You're never going to sell
- 3:01:01it. At and then they'll be like Oh
- 3:01:02yeah, just just spend $20,000 with us and we'll give you 30%
- 3:01:05off and we're like but what you sell exhaust like or something
- 3:01:10like. Yeah, stuff you're not going to
- 3:01:11buy in volume. Yeah.
- 3:01:12So it's like and then you're then we just sit here and think
- 3:01:14like oh should we do that just so we could say we're you know
- 3:01:17so and so dealer and it's like. Sometimes I think we just get
- 3:01:20into like, Porsches, yeah. That's where our buddy Ethan's
- 3:01:24at right now. He just wants to sell everything
- 3:01:26to get a Porsche. It's like. 3 Apropavic exhausts
- 3:01:28for like 10K each. Yeah, you know, you're right.
- 3:01:30Yeah, but then. But then at the same time, the
- 3:01:32mark. Seriously.
- 3:01:33Like, definitely more money involved, but the markup's still
- 3:01:36probably fucking terrible. It's not bad, but you you have a
- 3:01:39whole different level of. Clientele too.
- 3:01:42It's got to be. Yeah.
- 3:01:43Right. Yeah, it's definitely way better
- 3:01:46for sure. But hey man, drifting's getting
- 3:01:49bigger, so let's just keep going and see how see how this works
- 3:01:53out. Yeah, that's why I figure if
- 3:01:54people have 100K for a Mark 4 super.
- 3:01:56Yeah, that's what I mean. They could, they could maybe pay
- 3:01:58you a little bit more a. 100K for a GTRI mean they could
- 3:02:01probably afford to do some nice work to.
- 3:02:04It it's definitely a a decent time to be doing this stuff.
- 3:02:06It's not the best time maybe. I don't know.
- 3:02:08I feel like 2000, early 2000s might have been a better time.
- 3:02:11I don't know. I didn't let Maybe I.
- 3:02:13Don't know. I feel like everybody that was
- 3:02:14in it was the same age as us back then.
- 3:02:16Yeah, you know. I have any money even though I
- 3:02:19liked all this stuff, so. Yeah, and everything I.
- 3:02:21Wasn't buying as fuck too. So maybe it wasn't good.
- 3:02:23I think we were all just figuring out how to do it
- 3:02:25ourselves because we couldn't afford to go to any shops, Yeah,
- 3:02:27and no shops were doing. It, yeah, that's.
- 3:02:29The clientele couldn't. Exactly.
- 3:02:31So it probably wasn't even that good.
- 3:02:32Now was probably the best time. I'm glad I'm still living that
- 3:02:35life keeps. Getting better.
- 3:02:36Yeah, like kind of like carrying you guys as torture right now
- 3:02:39for that because like I'm just free balling everything hoping
- 3:02:43that God that I can there's still break everything.
- 3:02:45There's still people like that, but I feel like there's not as
- 3:02:47many. But maybe I'm wrong.
- 3:02:48I like to absorb. I come in here, I watch what
- 3:02:51Chris does for like maybe 20-30 minutes and the next time I work
- 3:02:54on my car I'm like maybe more like Chris.
- 3:02:57Yeah, well, do you see something he does or something and be
- 3:03:00like, oh, that does work. I see Chris do shit still.
- 3:03:03And I'm like, damn, I would have never thought of that.
- 3:03:06That's just shit you learn from experience working with other
- 3:03:08people in shops and stuff like that.
- 3:03:10So yeah, but yeah, man. Anyway, thank you for coming
- 3:03:13out. Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 3:03:14Really appreciate it. And yeah, I'm sure Carl will be
- 3:03:17hitting you up soon for. A Andy's mobile Dino.
- 3:03:19Yeah. And shower.
- 3:03:20Oh. Also, I was just kidding.
- 3:03:22We got to shout out. Oh shit, yeah, shout out.
- 3:03:25Beastie Boy E46 for sending me Oreos and Hostess Ding dongs.
- 3:03:31They're not Ring Dings, but they'll do.
- 3:03:33They're impossible, I told them all.
- 3:03:35The dude. And his drift team is misery.
- 3:03:38It's called Misery. They're from Missouri.
- 3:03:40It's kind of a cool sticker. It's like a Milwaukee sticker
- 3:03:43with Misery spell in a weird way.
- 3:03:45Yeah, it's kind of cool, shout. Out, Beast boy.
- 3:03:47Yo, he's stay feeding you and me.
- 3:03:48He got me granola bars over. Here.
- 3:03:49Yeah, check these guys out, Misery MIZZORI.
- 3:03:54And thanks for the Oreos. All right.
- 3:03:56Well, that covers today's. Episode Thank you guys so much
- 3:03:59for listening. This has been Faction after
- 3:04:00hours. What's your Instagram, Andy?
- 3:04:04Andy's been with Dino. It actually is, yeah.
- 3:04:06That's amazing. Follow at Andy's Mobile Dyno for
- 3:04:10your mobile dyno needs. And for the memes.
- 3:04:13And for the memes, All right. Bye That.
- 3:04:17Is that it now? Where's the outro, Malcolm?
- 3:04:19There's no outro. When are we going to pop the
- 3:04:22bottle of Rosie? Did you just smell the mic?
- 3:04:35I was curious. OK, that's fucking weird.
- 3:04:40Well, that was fun. Yeah.
- 3:04:42Smart guy. Yeah, too smart.
- 3:04:45Genius. It went better than expected
- 3:04:47because I thought it was just going to be him being way too
- 3:04:50smart for everyone in this room. And then we're all just like.
- 3:04:53Oh, what? But I forgot, Carl can literally
- 3:04:56make a conversation with anyone. So yeah, it worked out.
- 3:04:59We learned a lot of information and Andy was able to fix the
- 3:05:04heat in his truck before he drove home.
- 3:05:05So. Nice.
- 3:05:06Yeah, so he wasn't freezing to death the whole way home.
- 3:05:08Now the wipers, I don't know, maybe the wipers were still
- 3:05:10going, but yeah, so I hope you guys enjoyed that one.
- 3:05:15Let us know in the comments on YouTube.
- 3:05:17And also if you're listening to this, I think you can leave some
- 3:05:21type of review on Spotify, so feel free to do that.
- 3:05:24If you're listening to it on Apple or anything else.
- 3:05:26Just leave us a review in general because those reviews
- 3:05:29really help us in the basically the rankings of podcast.
- 3:05:34I don't really know what you're supposed to call that, but it's
- 3:05:38it's like a mixture of like I guess how many people download
- 3:05:41them and then the reviews do come into effect, I'm pretty
- 3:05:44sure. But and I if you notice, no one
- 3:05:47really leaves reviews for podcast.
- 3:05:48So yeah, but then if you check out ours, we have a lot of
- 3:05:51reviews and that's thanks to you guys for actually listening to
- 3:05:54me when I speak, which is crazy because my employees don't even
- 3:05:56do that. Nope.
- 3:05:58OK. But thanks guys.
- 3:06:02What else we got going on? We got R Tech manifolds.
- 3:06:05If you guys know this brand, you probably heard of it through
- 3:06:07Jimmy Oaks or Adam LZ. But R Tech is a a exhaust
- 3:06:12manifold brand from I believe Australia.
- 3:06:15I hope I'm right with that, but somewhere down under fucking
- 3:06:18Somewhere down under. Somewhere down under.
- 3:06:20OK. I know you can do the accent.
- 3:06:24I'm all right. There you go.
- 3:06:26There you go. Yeah, somewhere down there.
- 3:06:30I believe it's Australia, but they make some really good, high
- 3:06:32quality manifold, so we're going to begin stocking those.
- 3:06:35If anyone is interested, please. I don't want to say DM us, but I
- 3:06:39know you're going to DM us anyway, so DM us or check out
- 3:06:44our website or shoot us An e-mail. e-mail is best if you're
- 3:06:47looking for something that's not on the website.
- 3:06:49So we are placing that order probably in the next few days.
- 3:06:56What else we got a lot of HPS. Lot of HPS, radiator hoses,
- 3:07:03coolant hoses, whatever. Yeah, coolant hoses, radiator
- 3:07:07hoses, there's even a Jay-Z kit. So if you have a Jay-Z and an
- 3:07:10S13 or an S14, you know that finding the radiator hoses is
- 3:07:14kind of a pain in the ass. So now we carry those swap
- 3:07:19radiator hoses and we have an order coming in hopefully in the
- 3:07:24next few weeks. So we will be stocking those as
- 3:07:26well. Anything else?
- 3:07:30I'm looking right now. Oh yeah, the Nissan VIN plate in
- 3:07:35the engine Bay, the little clips that hold it in.
- 3:07:37They're like rivets, but they're plastic.
- 3:07:39We got those. We got those.
- 3:07:40So $3.95 each, pretty good deal. Yeah, if you have to take that
- 3:07:46plate off to paint the engine Bay or anything like that, now
- 3:07:49you can get the replacement clips to put the VIN plate back
- 3:07:52on instead of, you know, what we used to do is we just like put
- 3:07:55painters tape around the whole thing.
- 3:07:56But then it it never works out. You always get overspray on
- 3:08:00something. Yeah, that looks like everything
- 3:08:04as far as the website goes. I did want to mention that
- 3:08:09Malcolm's best friend Eddie has been coming to the shop for the
- 3:08:12last few weeks and he has been filming Random, basically just
- 3:08:16anything that's been going on. Yeah, he just hangs out films
- 3:08:18for us, takes photos and just tries to capture whatever we go
- 3:08:22through on Mondays at least yesterday.
- 3:08:25Was rough so. Yeah, yeah, you can see those
- 3:08:27videos on the Patreon going to start posting stuff to the
- 3:08:31YouTube. We just got to figure out a a
- 3:08:33little schedule and a little content calendar to see what we
- 3:08:37can, you know formulate for the YouTube but.
- 3:08:40Yeah, so basically what's going on is if we don't have videos to
- 3:08:45film on Monday and Eddie's coming, he's going to film a
- 3:08:47vlog for the Patreon. So if you want to see more
- 3:08:50behind the scenes footage from the shop and and stuff like that
- 3:08:53and you know these videos, we're listening to music, everything
- 3:08:57is good. Like we don't have to.
- 3:08:58Watching Frankie work on his car.
- 3:09:00Watching me work on my car for once, you know, so it's it's a
- 3:09:03fun time. So if you want to check that
- 3:09:04footage out, just make sure you join the Patreon.
- 3:09:07And thank you to all the Patreon supporters we already have.
- 3:09:10We really appreciate it. I mentioned this last time, we
- 3:09:12will be I. At least we should be releasing
- 3:09:16a new hoodie soon. And if you are a $15 member on
- 3:09:20Patreon, you will be getting one of those hoodies for free.
- 3:09:23So join up now and you'll get a free hoodie soon all.
- 3:09:26Right shop is getting loud. We got to go.
- 3:09:28Yeah, shops getting loud, so we'll see you guys later.
- 3:09:30Make sure to check out our sponsors.
- 3:09:32See you bye.
