- 0:01SRI aurobindo distinguishes between a mental seeking and a
- 0:05living spiritual experience while those who are
- 0:09intellectually minded frequently, confused.
- 0:11Knowing with knowing there is actually a clear distinction
- 0:16between the ability to read here, memorize and repeat back a
- 0:21teaching, which occurs in the mind.
- 0:25There is a famous proverb that one can read all the books about
- 0:28swimming and know how to swim in a lecture Ali.
- 0:32But that does not mean when will actually be able to swim when
- 0:36thrown into the water, the story from the Mahabharata illustrates
- 0:41this clearly, when the famous teacher dronacharya was
- 0:46educating the princes of the Kingdom, he one day stated that,
- 0:50the lesson of the day was not to become angry.
- 0:55The first hundred and four Prince's hundred Cordova's.
- 0:58And for of the pond of has said they understood the lesson but
- 1:03the eldest, the Future King Emperor, yudhisthira demurred
- 1:09and said he had not yet understood This went on for
- 1:13several days until finally a frustrated dronacharya struck
- 1:17yudhisthira. Note that striking the Future
- 1:21King was considered to be punished by Death.
- 1:25At that moment. However, yudhisthira indicated
- 1:29he had now understood the lesson for him.
- 1:32It was not just an intellectual exercise, he needed the
- 1:36opportunity to put the lesson into practice and make it a
- 1:40living spiritual experience active in his being SRI
- 1:46aurobindo notes. Quote, you have asked, what is
- 1:50the discipline to be followed in order to convert the mental
- 1:53seeking into a Spiritual experience.
- 1:56The first necessity is the practice of concentration of
- 2:00your Consciousness within yourself.
- 2:02The ordinary human mind has an activity on the surface, which
- 2:06veils the real self. But there is another the hidden
- 2:11Consciousness within behind the surface one in which we can
- 2:15become aware of the real self and of a larger deeper.
- 2:19Truth of nature, can realize the self and Eight and transform the
- 2:25nature. To quiet, the surface mind and
- 2:29begin to live within is the object of this concentration.
- 2:35Of this true Consciousness. Other than the superficial,
- 2:38there are two main centers one in the heart.
- 2:42Not the physical heart, but the cardiac center in the middle of
- 2:45the chest, one in the head, the concentration in the heart opens
- 2:51within and by following this inward opening and going deep,
- 2:56one becomes aware of the Soul or psychic being the Divine element
- 3:01in the individual. This being unveiled begins to
- 3:05come forward to govern the nature, to turn it and all its
- 3:09movements towards the truth, towards the Divine and to call
- 3:14down into it all. That is above, it brings the
- 3:18consciousness of the presence, the dedication of the, being to
- 3:22the highest and invites, The Descent into our nature of a
- 3:27greater force and Consciousness, which is waiting above us.
- 3:32To concentrate in the Heart Center with the offering of
- 3:35oneself, to the Divine and the aspiration for this inward
- 3:39opening. And for the presence in the
- 3:42heart is the first way. And if it can be done, the
- 3:46natural beginning for its result, once obtained makes the
- 3:51spiritual path, far more easy and safe.
- 3:55And if one begins the other way and quote, reference SRI
