The Protocol That Speaks Objects: EtherNet/IP and CIP in Depth
A compressor package on the Al Sahil Gas Complex floods the plant's control network every time it is powered up, and nobody can say why. Priya Raghavan, the OT cybersecurity architect, and Tomás Iglesias, the vendor's integration engineer, take the package's EtherNet/IP network apart one object at a time. On the way they explain the Common Industrial Protocol, implicit and explicit messaging, multicast and why switches must be told about it, Device Level Ring, CIP Sync, CIP Safety, and CIP Security, and where the IEC 61158 and 61784 standards sit behind the trade names.
