- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:14Speaker 2: What's going on? Everybody?
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher Andrew de Checko here for Inside the Birds.
- 0:19Adam Kapen will be back with us on the next one.
- 0:22But Andrew, since we last did since Inside the Birds
- 0:25podcast last drop, there have been two Eagles camp practices.
- 0:29The first one happened in pads and then on Thursday
- 0:33that was a yellow practice.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Correct, that was a ninety minute or.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yellow practice and it ran about an hour, twenty hour,
- 0:40twenty two something like that.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was and I was probably covered in
- 0:45sweat just two minutes into the hour and twenty minute sessions.
- 0:48Speaker 3: So listen, I'm want to seeing one it was ninety degrees,
- 0:53but I was talking to another reporter and the real
- 0:55feel was one oh three, so you could argue that
- 0:58it was even hotter out there than it was on Tuesday. Yeah,
- 1:02but I mean, once one, if it's hot, it's hot.
- 1:05Speaker 2: There's uh So let's recap.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We're gonna go through offensive defense some of the things
- 1:13that I stood out to both of us that are
- 1:16worth discussing, and then but I want to start off
- 1:18really just with taking inventory on the injury situation. Some
- 1:23of them are minor. Some of them may not be minor.
- 1:26You know, the Eagles don't exactly volunteer who's out for what.
- 1:29But the practice. I think Zach Bone has now missed
- 1:32two practices with a back. And it started off with
- 1:35back contusion and then it was just back the after
- 1:39Thursday's practice. So you wonder did they just run out
- 1:41of space when they're typing out or is it? Is
- 1:44it not now just regular back, Just like with DeVante Smith,
- 1:47it went from back stiffness to back.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So either way, this general back sore, as I guess.
- 1:54And then so Nolan Smith missed two in a row
- 1:57with the concussion.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Too, right, right, do you remember the play that he
- 2:01got hit on. I think you were describing it to me.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't I don't remember.
- 2:05Speaker 2: You just remember seeing you.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He looked like a little bit off at one point, right, yeah, yeah,
- 2:10all right, So either way, uh slight concern with Bond.
- 2:14I always get concerned with back injuries for anybody. You
- 2:17saw what happened to Cam Jurgens by the end of
- 2:20last year. We're only in training camp. Davante Smith always
- 2:23seems to have like a knee or an ankle or
- 2:25but he always seems to be okay, so I'm not
- 2:28like hugely concerned, but you hate to hear about receivers
- 2:31that have back injuries too.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Eagles are really lighting numbers at wide
- 2:36receiver Jeff Terras Marshall. That's a new addition to the
- 2:39injury list. He has the knee he looked like at
- 2:42the end of a running play during team period. He
- 2:45was hurt two practices ago, and then he was spotted
- 2:49on the sideline. But it's not the lineup. Danny Gray
- 2:51is no longer there. Davante's out, so that there are
- 2:54a little light on numbers there. They signed if Aodai
- 2:57out of sam Houston State, who spent some time with
- 2:59the in the spring.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Just to add another body for reps.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So yep, yep, much needed. So I'm glad you mentioned
- 3:07that because I would have forgotten. We've spent a lot
- 3:09of time this offseason talking about the idea of Danny
- 3:12Gray making the fifty three his four to three speed,
- 3:15which really you don't see a lot of on the
- 3:16Eagles receiving corps. Then he got hurt, So describe how
- 3:21he got hurt first, right, you remember seeing it, right?
- 3:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 3:24Speaker 3: He collided with Drew mccuba. I believe it was a
- 3:27crossing pattern. It was Saturday's practice and both players were
- 3:32dinged up. Danny Gray had the finger and Macouba has
- 3:36the shoulder. That still kept him out. Unfortunately, if you're
- 3:40on the.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Bubble and you're not able to practice and you're already
- 3:43light on.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Numbers, it's a matter of math. They have to make
- 3:47room and they need to be able to have bodies
- 3:49to practice. So Danny it was a casualty, and he's
- 3:53been nicked up with the Niners as well. It's kind
- 3:55of been his story. I don't believe it's about the
- 3:58ability he has speed. He has flat on occasions, but
- 4:01when you're on the bubble, they can't really afford to
- 4:03keep you around if you're not going to be out there.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Right, and he must it must have been a case
- 4:07where they thought he wasn't going to be back soon
- 4:09enough to really compete.
- 4:10Speaker 2: He would. He went on waivers. I believe he went unclaimed.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So if the Eagles want to bring him back, they'll
- 4:15be able to. But for now, it's sort of like
- 4:18the dream is over, right, because we put a lot
- 4:21of time and effort in talking about what could be uh,
- 4:24And obviously the injury, as you mentioned, that's kind of
- 4:26bit him in the in the rear end for his
- 4:29career now and unfortunately that kind of derailed the latest one.
- 4:33So we'll we'll check back and see if the Eagles
- 4:35wind up bringing him back in some capacity. But obviously
- 4:38it was a it was a collision that left him
- 4:41with that. And then Macouba has not been back with
- 4:44that shoulder yet and he's missing some valuable reps as well.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, he is, and Nick Sirianni talked about having to
- 4:50get creative and how he gets mccuba up to speed
- 4:54if he's not on the field, and that's walkthroughs, that's
- 4:56film study and mental reps. Of course, Vic van Joe
- 5:00really co signed that and echoed the same sentiment. But
- 5:04I still don't believe that you should sound any sort
- 5:06of an alarm. It's an injury that we don't quite
- 5:09know what the timeline is. Obviously, it's not ideal for
- 5:11a rookie to be missing time. But I saw mccooper
- 5:16working off to the side during practice today with a
- 5:18trainer when I was watching the offensive lineman and the
- 5:21defensive lineman, And if you watch him moving around after
- 5:23practice like he had a trey a Rita's water ice
- 5:26and he.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Was moving around.
- 5:28Speaker 3: So I don't know that it's a cause for concern
- 5:32at this time, but we'll have to obviously monitor it.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, it'd be good to see him get back
- 5:37on soon, and certainly before the first preseason game. E. J.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Jenkins tight end is out with a hamstring, and those
- 5:44are it for the guys who are out limited. Johad
- 5:48Campbell continues to be listed as limited by the team,
- 5:51but continues to be out there pretty much a lot.
- 5:55Jialen Carter also limited it but and now he played
- 5:59I think on the first team today, probably more so
- 6:02than he has before.
- 6:03Speaker 3: So I think that was his first time getting eleven
- 6:06on eleven work since coming back from the shoulder.
- 6:09Speaker 2: See.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I thought he had been in there on the last
- 6:12time I was there Monday, but I could be wrong.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Sometimes he might have.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah, So for people who don't get a chance to
- 6:19go see camp, a lot of times in camp, guys
- 6:21will do the half jersey thing.
- 6:23Speaker 2: They'll roll up their jersey halfway.
- 6:25Speaker 1: So ninety six could look like ninety eight, could look
- 6:28like ninety nine. Ninety eight looks like ninety nine if
- 6:29you're only seeing the upper half of a number. So
- 6:32it is very difficult at times, especially in the trenches,
- 6:34to figure out who's who, especially when guys.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Are running in and running out.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But yeah, Dylan Carter was there with the first team,
- 6:40so that's a good sign. And Shoulders is fine. He's
- 6:43good again. Aj Dillon was considered limited. I thought he'd
- 6:46got a decent amount of work. On Thursday we watched
- 6:49him get some carries. But you do notice that guys
- 6:52like Montreal Johnston and Seun Derek Powell are also getting
- 6:57will Shipley.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Of course we're all also getting run in there too.
- 7:01We're doing I think Andrew.
- 7:02Speaker 1: The big thing is it's back and again that's not great,
- 7:05but it's not neck so that's that's good.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Yeah, And at this point the summer, you don't want
- 7:10to rush somebody back from anything or have them play
- 7:13through it in a in a large capacity. I mean,
- 7:16we're we're we're always getting into August, so you don't
- 7:18want to you don't want to rush anything. But I
- 7:20thought Montreal Johnson Junior, you never want to get too
- 7:23carried away. But there's been moments through the six practices
- 7:27that he's caught my attention and accelerates.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Through the line.
- 7:31Speaker 3: The vision, good contact balance, and I think he can
- 7:34give you potentially some jews as a kick returner.
- 7:37Speaker 4: So he's a guy that I have highlighted for the preseason.
- 7:40And SHANDRK.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Powell today he had a couple of nice runs and
- 7:43had a couple of touchdowns.
- 7:45Speaker 4: The I guess it was Tuesday's practice.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah, hey man, you're getting to the good stuff. I'm
- 7:49trying to get through these injuries. Oh yeah, it's okay,
- 7:54I'm just kidding. I'm kidding, but that is good. I
- 7:56also thought Johnson, since we're talking about.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It, he has some cut jump.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Cuts, which yeah, is pretty good, so especially if you're
- 8:03gonna play in his own based system.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So I like that saw that out of him.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And I think with the offensive line Andrew that you
- 8:09know Jurgens is listed as limited. He's clearly on a
- 8:12pitch count because there are times we saw Brett Toth
- 8:15again at center, which I don't know how much longer
- 8:17we're gonna have to see that. But also I noticed
- 8:20Lane later in the practice on Thursday, Lane came out
- 8:24was replaced by Matt Pryor. On the first team, Dickerson
- 8:26was replaced by Toath, while while Jurgens was at center, Dickerson,
- 8:31Toath was at left guard. So it looks like they
- 8:32were given maintenance to a lot of the veterans on
- 8:35the offensive line.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I think Kendall even got a little work at guard
- 8:38as well. Yes, yeah, yeah, they were doing a little
- 8:42mixing and matching.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 8:45Speaker 1: We'll talk about it later because it folds in with
- 8:48another point. But Ben van Sumer and left practice. He
- 8:51kind of limped off the field on a play. Now
- 8:54that one's kind of worth watching because I don't think
- 8:56he came back in and the way he was limping,
- 8:59uh didn't look really. I'm not saying you torror or
- 9:01anything like that. I just think that that's the kind
- 9:03of thing that he might take a few days. I
- 9:04don't know, he could be back tomorrow, who knows. But
- 9:07he definitely limped off the field and I did not
- 9:08see him re enter, did you.
- 9:12Speaker 5: No?
- 9:12Speaker 4: He did not.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Okay, all right, so he didn't re enter.
- 9:15Speaker 4: But it does it speaks to a larger point that
- 9:17I'm sure you and I are going to get to.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple of points actually, so remind me formationally
- 9:23and then also what put him out of the game. Well, actually,
- 9:26let's start with defense, all right, and the thing that
- 9:29jumped out of me at defense today, And this is
- 9:31where Van sumer And folds in is And I'm trying,
- 9:35I think we're all trying to make sure we don't
- 9:37fall into our trap of putting too much into training camp.
- 9:41So nothing I observe means that these guys are infallible
- 9:46or if they have to play a lot, that an
- 9:48opponent can't scheme around their weaknesses and exploit them. But
- 9:52for what you're looking for now, baseline athleticism, instincts, knowledge
- 9:57strengths like that, I think you gotta be really pleasantly
- 10:01happy with Jahad Campbell, Smilemonden, and Jeremiah Trotter.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Not just in the Thursday practice but throughout camp.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I mean, I think these guys, especially for a long
- 10:11time Eagles writer like me who has seen probably the
- 10:14bottom of the barrel at.
- 10:15Speaker 2: That position, I think we've talked about it.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the athleticism and the instincts alone, maybe
- 10:24not with Trotter, who's more less have an athlete but
- 10:26more of an understanding the position just just show a
- 10:28lot of they all seem to know what they're doing
- 10:30pretty well.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Is that fair?
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it is fair, and it's a noticeable difference compared
- 10:37to years past. But I think this collection of players, Jeff,
- 10:39they all bring something different to the table. They all
- 10:41have a different type of skill set. And we're not
- 10:44even including to Kobe Dean yet. Obviously he's on the
- 10:47pup list, but he's another player that when you look
- 10:50at some of this op finality that some of these
- 10:52players provide, there's there's a there's a chance you can
- 10:56get multiple of these guys on the field at once,
- 10:58but there's you have a young player like Campbell who's
- 11:02ahead of schedule.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Mond and Junior I thought had a really active day Trotter.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Junior has been one of the shining stars at training
- 11:09camp through six practices, and of course Zach Bond being
- 11:13the All pro that he is. Obviously he's not practicing currently,
- 11:17but they have a really good balance there of talent.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I spoke to someone who who will remain nameless here,
- 11:24but this person said, Bobby king Man, he's doing a
- 11:28great job, and you know what, he's sort of like
- 11:30the Wizard of Oz. Nobody talks about the inside linebackers coach.
- 11:34You wrote a great story about him last year during
- 11:36the Super Bowl. But no matter how much pubby he
- 11:38might get here and there, people are not going to
- 11:40associate the success with Bobby King, but they probably should
- 11:43because he's doing an excellent job. I know you have
- 11:47talked with him specifically about his emphasis on block destruction,
- 11:52which frees us to why Ben Van Sumern was limping
- 11:56off the field because Jahad Campbell and he might get
- 11:59a little talking to because he's probably been a little
- 12:02overly physical in camp. Dallas Goddard talked about it too, Jihad,
- 12:06was it Campbell? Yeah, Campbell's the one who kind of
- 12:08lit him up? Yeah, yeah, yeah, lit him up. And
- 12:12remember they're not in pads on Thursday. You lit them up,
- 12:15and listen. You like to see the aggression, you'd like
- 12:18to see the violence. I'm sure the coaches inside are like,
- 12:20all right, I like that, But you also got to.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Keep guys healthy. So I think Campbell's doing a nice job.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But I think you wrote this in your observations on
- 12:27Inside the Birds dot com.
- 12:29Speaker 2: It's probably gonna have to dial down a little bit.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and it says a lot if you're knocking someone
- 12:33like Van Sumer into the ground. Van Soomer is a
- 12:35very physical player. But this is now a series of
- 12:39events because it was trying to punch the ball out
- 12:42from Tanner McKee and on one practice and tackling Dallas
- 12:45Goddard on a crossing route. Then today he brought down
- 12:49Keelan Robinson after a run. Now these aren't hard hits,
- 12:52but he's taken players down to the ground. But the
- 12:54big one, of course, is the one that you outlined
- 12:56Jeff with Van Sumer and he didn't return to practice.
- 12:59We'll obviously have to wait and see what transpires, but
- 13:02he does need to ratchet it down a notch or.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Two because he can't do that. You can't injure your
- 13:07own teammates.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Yeah, at some point, and I would put my money
- 13:11on Landon Dickerson, someone, some big offensive lineman is going
- 13:16to go up to him and knock him, knock his
- 13:17some sense into him.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Or try to start out one of those relays. Or yeah,
- 13:22Blaine would be number two. It was either him or Lane.
- 13:24Yeah that I could see see doing that, or.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I could I could see my lot, who's become a
- 13:29real leader of this, at least getting in his face
- 13:32and telling him to cut that, you know.
- 13:33Speaker 2: What out before he got really physical with him. But
- 13:36you never know.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But yeah, he's got to tone it down and we'll
- 13:39see because you Van sumer In, we'll talk about this
- 13:42on offense. I observed them today on Thursday playing a
- 13:47ton of twelve personnel. Twenty two personnel. They are really
- 13:51I thought there was more of that than eleven personnel. Now,
- 13:54granted they're a little banged up, right. You mentioned this,
- 13:56No DeVante Smith, no Terrass Marshall, so that might have
- 13:59been a too. But you know, Van Sumerin is going
- 14:02to be a part of their package if he makes
- 14:03the team and they use the fullback. So got to
- 14:05keep that guy guy healthy, especially with him coming off
- 14:08the knee injury.
- 14:09Speaker 4: He's also a core special teamer.
- 14:12Speaker 3: You never know if you go light it at tight end,
- 14:14you keep two let's say, Van sumer And offers some
- 14:18optionality there as well, really good pass catcher, so he
- 14:21does have a little bit more of a larger role
- 14:22than just a handful of plays as a fullback he
- 14:25can has he provides added value elsewhere.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, Mandan made a similar play in that it
- 14:31looked like Steen was wrapping around like a poll and
- 14:35Mandan came around and look, he didn't put him out
- 14:37the way Nolan Smith put out, you know, Trey Smith
- 14:41or Elgton Jenkins. But he drove him back and that
- 14:44was a thought. And Mandan is a guy that we've
- 14:47talked about with good speed, good athleticism. I thought there
- 14:50was an example of a way a linebacker can use
- 14:53can turned speed to power where it's not exactly a
- 14:56pass rush but a block destruction in a play, And
- 15:00that was a really impressive play from London.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Yeah, he plays with a lot of physicality, Jeff.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I've noticed him whenever he's attacking the line of scrimmage
- 15:09or even just in pursuit of the football.
- 15:10Speaker 4: There's urgency.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Now, he did not shine, particularly the other day when
- 15:16the running backs were in past pro versus linebackers. I
- 15:19thought he lost more than he won in terms of that.
- 15:22And he's a slighter build, but he is a sharp
- 15:25and stinctual player and plays bigger than his size.
- 15:28Speaker 4: He's about six two two twenty four.
- 15:31Speaker 3: But I think that when you when you look at
- 15:33what he's been able to do thus far, you have
- 15:35to be pretty plead if you're the Eagles.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and we've talked about this and written about this.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Trotter has had a really good camp as far as
- 15:42knowing where to be, the instincts, the playmaking. I mean,
- 15:46he's just really really He reminds me more and more
- 15:50as I watch him of TJ. Edwards in that he's
- 15:54not gonna blow anybody away with the testing, but he
- 15:58will blow every buddy away with his just ability to
- 16:01be in the right place at the right time.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And it's hard.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It's gonna be hard to make a big play against
- 16:06him unless he is just out sped by like a
- 16:11crossing route or something, you know what I'm saying.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Like, he will always be in the.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Right space at the right time, and that, to me,
- 16:18it was TJ Edwards to a t so.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Edwards obviously was a little bit bigger, but I think
- 16:23Trotter is actually more instinctual. And I agree he always
- 16:27seems to know where the where the football is going.
- 16:30Their ability to read and diagnose, to play recognition, these
- 16:33are all harrmarks of his game, and all of those
- 16:37qualities are typically what Dick Fangio looks for in off
- 16:40ball linebackers.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Right, Definitely, let's let's go to the front line. I'll
- 16:46ask I'll start with you. A couple of things caught
- 16:47my attention. Anything from the front four, the interior line.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Especially.
- 16:54Speaker 3: The defensive line. Yeah, Jordan Davis. I thought Jordan Davis
- 16:59had some depression today. He's not getting home. He was
- 17:04forcing quarterbacks off their spot, flushing them, and there was
- 17:08a couple of hasty throws from a number of different
- 17:11quarterbacks because of Jordan Davis. He may have even had
- 17:12the final rush of practice. I believe he did. But
- 17:16if he's able to continue to do that, I think
- 17:18the Eagles will take that all day, and they're certainly
- 17:20banking on him taking that next step. Moro Ojomo jeff
- 17:23has also been another player that last summer, I thought
- 17:27that there wasn't a practice that went by that he
- 17:29wasn't affecting a play or a series in some way
- 17:34with his physicality and violence, and you're seeing it manifest
- 17:37again for another summer. He's winning whatever his matchups are, quickness, leverage,
- 17:42all those good things, and I do believe that he
- 17:44Both players there's a lot riding on them, but I
- 17:47think Jomo's going to really take this lead forward in
- 17:49year three.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I like the way He's so differently built than Milton Williams,
- 17:55who I think was like stockier and more compact, where
- 17:58Moro is a little more slender and has the longer arms,
- 18:00but he really uses those hands in those arms to
- 18:03his advantage.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He's got quick feet. Yeah, I'm really I'm excited to
- 18:07see his development, see where it goes.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And then you know, the the thing I always do
- 18:11to check myself is then I'm excited to see when
- 18:13the league sort of notices, how do they counteract them?
- 18:16What does he do to counteract that? Which is always
- 18:19sometime you know. Five six games into into the season,
- 18:22I had Jordan Davis and Jaylex Hunt as sort of
- 18:26a sandwich sack on that last right right.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I wasn't sure if Jordan provided it, like the initial
- 18:33pressure or was the clean up guy, but they were
- 18:36both right around.
- 18:36Speaker 4: I think it was Jordan that that provided the initial pressure.
- 18:40Speaker 3: And how about josh Ushe there is a handful of
- 18:42plays today that I thought that he really acquitted himself well,
- 18:45particularly I mean there was this Dallas Godd blocking him, granted,
- 18:49but he you know, shed the block he got around
- 18:51the edge, forced Jalen Hurts to throw an ill fated
- 18:56pass down the sideline to Johan Dotson that fell in completely.
- 19:00It's a small play here or there, but I think
- 19:02that he's outperformed to this point as he's Ojelari.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, that's an interesting point because it made
- 19:09me think of last year. We probably hadn't reached that
- 19:12time yet at this time.
- 19:13Speaker 1: We're only a week in, but maybe, you know, five
- 19:17or six days from now. Last year, I think we
- 19:19were all starting to wonder when Bryce Huff was going
- 19:22to show up, right and starting to feel that way
- 19:25a little bit about o Jelari right now.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I know it's in him. I know he's a good.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Pass rusher, and I'm not gonna like sit here and
- 19:30say this guy lost at all or training camp, is
- 19:32indiccative of anything. But just like the way Jaelex Hunt
- 19:35last year seemed to be the only guy consistently showing
- 19:39up as an edge rusher, especially as he started to
- 19:42get more and more reps with the second team third team,
- 19:45I feel like we're saying that.
- 19:47Speaker 2: About Ouce, you know, but not as much about O'jelari.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Nolan Smith has been out, Hunt's been fine, but really
- 19:54there's only one guy to me standing out so as
- 19:58far as consistent pressure generation, then that would be.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, definitely, And and Vic Fangio pretty much said
- 20:05as much that no one's really surfaced one way or
- 20:08the other behind Nolan Smith and Jayoaks Hunt. It seems
- 20:12like if is able to keep stacking days like that
- 20:14productive days, he might be one that emerges. Because he's
- 20:18outperformed Ja Lari to this point, there's obviously still a
- 20:22ways to go.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Now, as for Davis, I just think we need to
- 20:25see this for a couple of practices in a row.
- 20:27He has this habit of flashing and then not flashing flashing,
- 20:30but it was good to see that he got some pressures.
- 20:32Didn't didn't play as high as he was the day
- 20:34I was there on Monday. I thought he played high
- 20:36maybe one day or Tuesday. I lose track, So I
- 20:39would like to see a little bit more development there
- 20:41from him. I also thought Gabe Hall showed a little
- 20:44pocket push yeah, a couple of times today. He's an
- 20:47interesting guy. He's sort of quietly having a nice camp.
- 20:50Speaker 3: He yes, And actually I wrote down there was a
- 20:53couple of plays where I thought he was disruptive, but
- 20:56then there was another other plays where I thought he
- 20:58got a little high his pad level was, and he's
- 21:01a longer guy, he's about six five ninety five, but
- 21:04he's gonna have to use try and get lower a
- 21:07little bit just for leverage purposes.
- 21:09Speaker 4: But yeah, you're right. Largely today, I thought that he
- 21:12had a solid showing.
- 21:14Speaker 1: All right, let's move to the secondary man. Was there
- 21:17any reason for Vic Fangio to just crap all over
- 21:19a Dori.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Jackson the other day?
- 21:23Speaker 1: I laugh, and I mean he I thought, I think
- 21:25Odori's actually been okay in camp. Nothing has jumped out
- 21:28of me. But you know, paraphrasing, he basically said, look,
- 21:31I didn't even sign this guy. I didn't even like
- 21:34watch tape of him, how he wanted him, how he
- 21:36signed him. He was invisible for the first few days
- 21:39of camp because the ball didn't come his way, and
- 21:41yet he still runs with the first team. So I
- 21:43do think Vic was trying to say, I need to
- 21:45see more of the ball coming his way to get
- 21:47some some job, and that's why he's probably been on
- 21:49the first team more so than than Killie Ringo. But
- 21:53it's certainly I don't know. I'm sure you made the
- 21:56same sort of like weird face when he was just
- 22:00unnecessarily killing adri Jackson.
- 22:03Speaker 3: I'm like, that's interesting. I mean, the day before that,
- 22:06Adoori had a solid day. Yeah, he had a nice
- 22:08pass breakup. And I don't think he's had a flashy camp,
- 22:13but I think he's made some plays here or there
- 22:15when the balls come as well.
- 22:16Speaker 4: He's also given up some as well. But today he rolls.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Out there with the first team and I think, Vic,
- 22:23if you're trying to decode what he's tried to say there,
- 22:26it's probably that he just needs to see more right
- 22:29and he needs to see more of the ball coming
- 22:32his way, see how he reacts to it, the ball skills,
- 22:34the instincts. On the other hand, Keithy Ringo had a
- 22:37couple of nice pass breakups today. One was an underthrown
- 22:40pass down the sideline to Darius Cooper. The rookie wide
- 22:43receiver Tanner McKee under threw it. Ringo should have picked it,
- 22:46but it was a pass breakup. He also had a
- 22:48nice one in the end zone to Johnny Wilson on
- 22:51another McKee pass. Johnny Wilson has not played to his size,
- 22:54but that was a nice breakup for Ringo.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 1: By the way, the really strange comment was we need
- 23:02to find about from Vic about Ader, we need to
- 23:05find out who he is or who he is is. Now,
- 23:08how many times do you hear that about a guy
- 23:10who's already played eight years in the end, this is
- 23:13his ninth year and he's almost thirty. He'll be thirty
- 23:15next month, no, no, September, so in about six weeks. Very
- 23:19rarely do you hear about a thirty year old corner
- 23:21that someone hasn't figured out who he is or is
- 23:24not yet. That's that's fascinating to me.
- 23:28Speaker 3: But it made sense to me, though, Jeff, because whenever
- 23:33I think of Adori Jackson, prior to him arriving at
- 23:36the Eagles and seeing him play, he was always sort
- 23:39of an enigma, a polarizing player because he was a
- 23:42first round pick. I've seen him play well with the
- 23:45Titans before, I've seen him have some some stretches where
- 23:47he wasn't very productive. So I guess Vick's trying to say,
- 23:50we need to find out more about this guy or
- 23:53maybe this is who he is.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 1: No, that's that's a really good point, an excellent point,
- 23:58and I tend to well, we'll see how things go.
- 24:01Speaker 2: But I tend to think that this competition between.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Him and Killy Ringo is going to continue to be
- 24:09like back and forth for a little bit here. It's
- 24:11not gonna be like last year, where I don't know,
- 24:13we're just a couple of days away from when Rogers
- 24:16just completely.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Took the job and ran with it.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I have a feeling that they're gonna it's a better competition,
- 24:21first of all, I think, and I think Vic is
- 24:25gonna have to see this one through for a little
- 24:27bit longer, including some preseason games. So that's what the
- 24:32secondary there. Well, there was somebody else I wanted to
- 24:35bring up. Oh yeah, we should talk about Mac McWilliams
- 24:38because he had a really nice pass breakup in the
- 24:40end zone on Kylan Grantson and that was actually which
- 24:44we'll get into. Also, McKee makes a really nice I
- 24:47mean McKee is flushed out of the pocket, keeps his
- 24:50eyes down.
- 24:51Speaker 2: The field, throws it in a.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Place where he probably thought only Granson could get it,
- 24:55and it wasn't intercepted, so it was still a good throw.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But McWilliams batted it down.
- 25:00Speaker 1: He stay tight, batted it down, and I feel like
- 25:03he's had good practices.
- 25:05Speaker 2: He's working at inside and outside.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Vic spoke much, you know, like nicer about him, saying
- 25:11like we're really seeing what he's got and he could be.
- 25:14Speaker 2: One of those guys Like I.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Part of me wonders if Vick is really I want
- 25:18to see if he makes his way to like second
- 25:20team Nickel gets mixed in with the first teamers, because
- 25:24part of me does wonder if Vic wants sees enough
- 25:27of him at Nickel, if he feels more comfortable then
- 25:30with the gene, playing more safe through or more outside corner. Really,
- 25:35I don't think they want to move the gene out
- 25:37of Nickel completely, being like when maybe more like as
- 25:41a dime or then in certain situations when you're gonna
- 25:44move the gene.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the faster he progresses, the more optionality
- 25:48he gives Vic Vangao potentially. And what I've noticed from him, Jeff,
- 25:51is he breaks on the ball suddenly and with good
- 25:55quickness and anticipation. He makes up for his lack of
- 25:58size with with hide. Just think football acumen. And that's
- 26:01something that's really inherent and that really stood out to
- 26:05me when I saw him play at UCF. It shined
- 26:08through six practices here and that pass breakup. I totally
- 26:12forgot about the one to Grantson, but I was thinking
- 26:14about the one to Johnny Wilson a couple of days
- 26:16ago that he had. I think he had another breakup
- 26:18during Team Joe that wasn't maybe it was earlier in practice.
- 26:22But as an aside, it feels like Grantson gets targeted
- 26:27a lot more than Harris and Bryant.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yes, it does seem that way. Harrison.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I don't want to say he's been invisible, but I
- 26:36just haven't noticed him doing anything all that in particular
- 26:39as opposed to Grantson, who dropped a touchdown in the
- 26:41last practice that we were at. But at least he
- 26:44was open and had his hands on the ball and
- 26:46then came back and made some catches today.
- 26:48Speaker 4: You're by the way you mentioned Mac Williams.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I probably should also mention Eli Rix, who had an
- 26:55interception today on a pass that Jay when Hurt sailed.
- 26:58It was a Texas route Akwon Barkley. He secured the interception.
- 27:02It was a red zone situational drill. They were doing
- 27:04the two minute end of game scenario and Eli was
- 27:08actually working with the first team at that instance.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Right, nice play.
- 27:12Speaker 3: He's had some nice reps against one on one during
- 27:14doing one on ones and also team period. He's quietly
- 27:18put together a nice start to training camp and you
- 27:21see the length and it just seems like he's playing
- 27:23a lot faster than he has over the past couple
- 27:25of years.
- 27:26Speaker 2: It does, It does.
- 27:28Speaker 1: He'll be another one that's sort of I mean, he's
- 27:30competing to be a top backup or one of the
- 27:31first two backups.
- 27:32Speaker 2: He's a good special teamer, right.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Well, here's the interesting thing, Jeff, because he only played
- 27:37in seven games last year, he played fourteen defensive steps
- 27:40and only fifty one on special teams, but they kept
- 27:42him on the roster.
- 27:43Speaker 4: I don't think special team is necessarily his forte.
- 27:46Speaker 3: He's like a leaner build, and I'm not so sure
- 27:49that him running down the field and getting mixing it
- 27:51up and getting physical is his thing. He's more of
- 27:53a He's a young cover corner with good length and
- 27:56they come at a premium today's NFL.
- 27:58Speaker 4: So that's kind of the way that I view.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I am of the belief that they're intrigued with what
- 28:02they have there and that's why they kept him on
- 28:04the roster.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you.
- 28:06Speaker 1: He'll be interesting to watch and I think, listen, the
- 28:10way to put a bow on this is that I
- 28:11know there's a lot of concern about the secondary and
- 28:14but there's there's some guys here.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Who are holding their own playing well.
- 28:18Speaker 1: It doesn't mean anything as far as the regular season,
- 28:22but they have got optionality here. I mean, they certainly
- 28:24will have some guys and even if you know, like
- 28:27a guy like Rix, like if he makes a team,
- 28:28he's been on the team for two years, he's been
- 28:30in this system. Now this is year two. He's been
- 28:34on the team for three years. This is his second
- 28:35year of this system. So you'll get guys who are
- 28:37at least comfortable. They'll know what their responsibilities are, they
- 28:40know what their roles are. You see that kind of continuity,
- 28:43and that's a good thing. And not to mention, you know,
- 28:46Mitchell the Gene are really high end players who are
- 28:49having Mitchell and Mitchell more so than the Jean. But
- 28:53Mitchell is having a really, really good camp. I think
- 28:56from what I've seen so far, they'll figure it out.
- 28:59With safety. I just you know, we already talked about
- 29:01the inside linebackers. We know the line is going to
- 29:04have its guys. I think people can think that, yes,
- 29:07this defense might take a little bit of a step back,
- 29:09but I don't see it being like a hemorrhage or
- 29:12anything like that.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I think that there's some good young talent here.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the whole point.
- 29:17Speaker 3: It was an off season season of maintenance to ensure
- 29:20that they have that young nucleus intact and then really
- 29:22build around that.
- 29:23Speaker 4: They have a lot of intriguing young pieces.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Now the question now becomes how quickly can they all
- 29:28blend together and absorb that the defense, because it is
- 29:32kind of complex depending on what position you play, let's
- 29:35say safety or linebacker. But from what we have to
- 29:37go off of right now, it seems like they have
- 29:39a lot of different components that I think can can
- 29:42fit into this puzzle.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Yeah, looking forward to that first preseason game next week
- 29:47against the Bengals.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Sky motor Cars and Wet Guts, but there's a different
- 29:50building the others. All the tanks is one look with
- 29:53their high line, own vehicles and people all.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Over the country.
- 29:56Speaker 5: The honor of Brets don't make true. You don't spend
- 29:58the time with your money before you purchase the car.
- 30:01Sky Motors cards allow you to make all the decisions
- 30:04regarding your next vehicle. At sky motorcards, you never have
- 30:08to spend below the deaths Jarney because a Skymotorcarnes dot
- 30:11Com today are called six ten nine to one eight seven.
- 30:18Speaker 1: So as we transition to offense, I want to make
- 30:21a big picture observation that I think I talked about
- 30:23this with you on the sideline. I've noticed a lot
- 30:27of motion from Kevin Patulo. I feel like there's been
- 30:31motion on at least sixty percent of the plays that
- 30:33I've seen. It's not Shanahan style motion where you've got
- 30:38two guys motioning, one guy shifting play action off of it.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I'm not saying that at all.
- 30:44Speaker 1: This is more of your traditional West Coast style of motion,
- 30:48but it's involved the tight ends a lot. Sometimes you
- 30:51see slot receivers motioning a time, but I've seen a
- 30:54lot of tight end motion. In fact, there was a
- 30:56play where god Ter started off in the right slot
- 31:00motion to the left, then ran a corner from the
- 31:02left and Hurts hit him really beautifully along the left side.
- 31:06And I just keep making I've been really paying attention
- 31:08to this when I'm there, making notes on when I
- 31:11see motion out of what personnel groupings. And it's again
- 31:15it's because someone asked me on Twitter, you know what's
- 31:19Kevin Patula doing from a motion standpoint, and I said,
- 31:22it looks like to me, he's using quite a bit
- 31:24of it, I said, but not Shanahan style. And then
- 31:27someone responded, why would you use Shanahan as an example
- 31:30instead of Kellen Moore?
- 31:31Speaker 2: And I said, I.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Didn't respond, but my thinking is, well, Kellen Moore didn't
- 31:36really do last year with the Eagles what he did
- 31:40in previous He adjusted to the personnel. He used motion,
- 31:44but it was here and there spriad it compared to
- 31:46how he had used it in the past.
- 31:49Speaker 2: And I'm not talking about percentages.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I'm just talking about how many moving parts there are
- 31:53at one time.
- 31:55Speaker 2: But here again, you're seeing it more. And then I think,
- 31:58you know what you will ship.
- 32:00Speaker 1: We took a nice little jet sweep off motion upright
- 32:04up the right sideline. So I think it's fair to
- 32:07say Kevin Patulo is doing some things that we didn't
- 32:09know he would do.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Here, Yeah, exactly, And I smith I think on occasion
- 32:13has as well. Like I've wrote down, I wrote that
- 32:16down today, there's some new wrinkles, and that's to be expected.
- 32:20I believe Adam was telling us that he believed it's
- 32:23going to be largely a West Coast offense, So that's
- 32:26what I'm expecting to see.
- 32:27Speaker 4: But there is going to be a little bit of flair.
- 32:29We've seen some of that.
- 32:30Speaker 3: But again we go back to sometimes whatever you see
- 32:33in training camp isn't always indicative of what you're going
- 32:35to see in the regular season because we we just
- 32:38go back.
- 32:38Speaker 4: To the past receiving.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Yeah, the running backs and the midfield usage with Dallas
- 32:45Godder last year as well. We hadn't really seen that
- 32:48translate over into the regular season. But I mean, you
- 32:51have to like what you've seen thus far because there
- 32:54is some fresh concepts in there.
- 32:56Speaker 1: It's a great point, like you know, I'm saying, like
- 32:58I'm seeing all this motion and and maybe Kevin Botulo
- 33:01after each practice with the offensive staff is saying, look
- 33:03at all this motion we ran and didn't really get
- 33:06what we wanted. You know, it's not you know, we'll
- 33:08keep doing it because we need to do it, but
- 33:10it may be something they run a lot and then
- 33:11determine that it's really not helping them the way they
- 33:14did So that's another way where what you see in
- 33:17training camp doesn't always mean, you know, it's an evaluation thing.
- 33:20It doesn't always mean it's going to happen when the
- 33:23regular season starts. But I do think with a guy
- 33:26like an Ia Smith and a guy like Shipley and
- 33:27a guy like Avery Williams, if he winds up making
- 33:30it and then you're these flex tight ends, Goddard Grantson, whatever,
- 33:35you probably have the opportunity to use.
- 33:37Speaker 2: It more to your ad to your advantage if you
- 33:40wanted to.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's interesting, you may Grantson would be a
- 33:45great fit for that, because I mean I talked to
- 33:48him the other day all the different things that he's done,
- 33:50h back out of the backfield, motion out wide, like,
- 33:54he can do a lot of different things. So if
- 33:57you're trying to implement that, that would be another puzzle piece.
- 34:00He talked about a three Williams and a Nia Smith
- 34:03and some of those guys, Kylin Grantson would be a
- 34:06nice fit as well.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I wrote that one of the first plays I
- 34:09wrote down my notebook Grantson. It was twelve personnel and
- 34:11Grantson lined up on the left side off set like
- 34:14behind ye think got her and he motioned out of
- 34:17it to the right. So I'm like, ah, so they're
- 34:19actually using him like an h back there.
- 34:21Speaker 2: That was pretty interesting. So that's good stuff. It's just
- 34:24good to like keeping an eye on. Let's talk about quarterbacks.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I mean the Hurts interception, as you mentioned, it was
- 34:31just he said, it's funny he Barkley ran a Texas
- 34:35route and Goddard sort of ran like a shallow dig
- 34:39behind it. Yeah, he put his hand up and I
- 34:43wasn't sure if that ball was going to.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Barkley or got her.
- 34:46Speaker 1: But either way, whoever was, it was an overthrow and
- 34:50that led to, you know, the interception you talked about
- 34:53for ricks. I want to talk about mcke though, because
- 34:57I thought he was really impressive.
- 34:58Speaker 2: I thought he's been impressive.
- 35:00Speaker 1: His whole game is predicated on getting the ball out quickly,
- 35:05and I know you wrote it in your observations. There
- 35:07were a few times where he was sort of he's
- 35:10using the middle of the field and getting the ball
- 35:12out quickly and really splitting those seams a lot.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a play that he hit Darius Cooper
- 35:18and stride on a crosser for a big gain. He
- 35:21had a nice connection with Johnny Wilson on an intermediate
- 35:24throw over the linebacker. I think I might have been
- 35:27Lance Dixon. He had the same to Nick Muse as well.
- 35:30Just really good timing and pinpoint accuracy. He gets rid
- 35:34of the ball and processes things very quickly, and that's noticeable.
- 35:37There's at least four or five passes today that were
- 35:42that were notable.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I thought, yeah, and that's kind of those two passes
- 35:47you mentioned. They came back to back. He hit Muse
- 35:51right on the right seam really quickly. Then he hit Johnny.
- 35:54It's almost like because the Eagles were in the same
- 35:56defensive formation, so he's like bam bam, right seam, left seat, team,
- 36:00you know, working the ball around.
- 36:01Speaker 2: That was that was impressive to me.
- 36:04Speaker 4: The one that he's had, he's solid.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Yeah, the one that stood out to me though you
- 36:09also mentioned it in your notes, but I had it
- 36:11circled in my notebook.
- 36:12Speaker 2: There was a play I think it was a little
- 36:14bit of a play action.
- 36:15Speaker 1: He fakes the handoff and he let the defense converge
- 36:17a little bit and at the last second he kind
- 36:20of poked it over the middle to not Muse. Was
- 36:23it a lot too who kind of stumbled, but then yeah, yeah,
- 36:27so that was intentional.
- 36:28Speaker 2: That was a play action.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Let the defense suck, the suck, the linebackers, everybody else
- 36:33in and then bam, throw it over. And in all
- 36:36three of these instances, the receivers and surprisingly they're all
- 36:39tight ends right, were able to get extra yards. And
- 36:42on that one a lot too fell but he didn't
- 36:46have his knees on the ground, so he was like
- 36:47kind of crawling on his feet right to get extra yards,
- 36:50which was it was good to see. But I think
- 36:52that all of that was possible because McKee A delivers
- 36:55quickly and b is hitting guys in stride.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, and it's timing based and it's keeping the
- 37:01offense on schedule. You often hear Kevin Patulo mentioned that,
- 37:05and that's something that I've noticed from McKee through six practices.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Here you go, Wilson, I have to agree with you
- 37:12one hundred percent. I feel like, if this guy's gonna
- 37:15make the team, he's got to figure out a way
- 37:18to make his six foot seven body advantageous as more
- 37:22than just the blocking wide receiver. Year two, I feel
- 37:26like he's not played like sixt' seven.
- 37:28Speaker 3: He hasn't I was expecting a little bit more competitiveness
- 37:31and attacking the catch point, pulling in those contested catches.
- 37:35I mean, we just talked about Mac McWilliams having a
- 37:37pass break that mc williams is five foot ten Johnny
- 37:40Wilson's six'.
- 37:42Speaker 4: SIX i didn't think that he gave a particularly good
- 37:44effort on that.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Play and when you have when you're a rangy receiver like,
- 37:49that utilize that to your advantage because you have a
- 37:52skill set that not not anybody else.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Has it's it's not very.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Ordinary but then you look at someone Like Elijah Cooks
- 37:59jeff And i'm not comparing the two other than to
- 38:03say they have a similar, frame AND i Think Elijah
- 38:06cooks does a much better job in terms of using
- 38:08his body and different things like that to his, advantage
- 38:11Whereas Johnny wilson has has come up small in his
- 38:14opportunities in many of his opportunities.
- 38:16Speaker 4: And hasn't caught the football with a lot of.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Consistency, yeah now to go back To Elijah, cooks he
- 38:23nearly made another highlight reel.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Play was it McKee who threw it to?
- 38:28Speaker 4: Him it, Was, yeah it was, McGee.
- 38:30Speaker 1: AND i think it was on a blitz because it
- 38:32did look like a one on one situation where he
- 38:36threw it to you, know down the like a go
- 38:38route to uh To cooks who beat the corner by
- 38:41just a.
- 38:41Speaker 2: STUFLE i don't Think cooks is the fastest guy in the, world,
- 38:43right he's just now he.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Doesn't he doesn't really separate particularly. Well he uses his
- 38:48frame to kind of play above.
- 38:49Speaker 1: The, rim, Right so he went up between the corner
- 38:53AND i think the safety was a little late to get,
- 38:55there but he couldn't come down with.
- 38:57Speaker 2: It or also it might have been a touchdown because
- 39:00right around the.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Pylon, yeah it would have been a.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Touchdown he's just had he had three practices in a
- 39:06row where he's flashed and then if he were able
- 39:09to come down with that, TODAY i mean that's he's
- 39:12already he would have already have done more this camp
- 39:15Than Johnny.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Wilson and that's not an exaggeration by any in any.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Sense.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, No, no he's in some, ways dare we, say
- 39:21sort of A joseph In gotta of.
- 39:23Speaker 4: THIS i was just gonna, say he reminds me a
- 39:26lot Of joseph And.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Gotta, yeah but even In gotta didn't have like four
- 39:30amazing days of catches in a, Row so that's that
- 39:33has been pretty impressive For.
- 39:34Speaker 2: COOKS i have a feeling he's going to earn himself
- 39:36a spot on the practice.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Squad, yeah practice. Squad, yeah, yeah.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Absolutely people are probably like fifty three your, Nuts, Jeff, no,
- 39:43NO i that would be insane if it is to
- 39:47say that right.
- 39:47Speaker 3: NOW i think practice squad's a good, bet just given
- 39:51the different roles that the other players above him.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Have. Yeah, Yeah so your thoughts on Ag dillon so?
- 39:57Speaker 3: Far you, KNOW i didn't really know what to expect
- 40:02going into training camp with Aj, dollon BUT i Think,
- 40:05jeff he's looked kind of AS i.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Expected he hasn't dazzled one way or the.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Other he doesn't necessarily have the juice That barkley Or shipley,
- 40:14have but he's found the crease and he's broken through
- 40:18the line a couple of different times in the past
- 40:21protection drill where running backs and. Linebackers he missed the
- 40:25initial strike on on one, occasion AND i think it
- 40:28might have been Against Monda junior and lost that one pretty.
- 40:32Easily so, YEAH i mean he's kind of been. UNEVEN
- 40:35i guess for, Me, YEAH i.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Thought i'm only evaluating him as a runner right.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Now AND i actually thought today watching Him, thursday THAT
- 40:44i saw some of. THAT i don't want to call
- 40:46it juice because he's like a two hundred fIF but you,
- 40:49know he runs well for a guy obviously his side,
- 40:51right AND i thought he was running the ball pretty
- 40:53well when it was in his.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Hand they're getting him leathered.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Up it's good that he hasn't had any neck issues right.
- 40:59NOW i would say he's doing what he needs to
- 41:02do to make the team as the number two or
- 41:05number three running. Back even with the impressiveness that we've
- 41:08seen from say A Montreal johnson or even A.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Derekroll is not gonna make. It he'll be on the practice, squad.
- 41:14Speaker 4: But it'll be somebody that flashes in the preseason probably right.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Right people will love. Him but BUT i would, say so,
- 41:20far so good FOR Aj.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Dillon, yeah, NO i think you have to be pleased
- 41:24if you're The, eagles because you know what you're getting with.
- 41:27It with his skill, set he doesn't necessarily have the
- 41:30home run hitting, ability.
- 41:31Speaker 2: But, yes, yes now your boy Will.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Shipley we talked about him taking the JETSWEEP i thought
- 41:37he had a pretty good was it a blitz pick
- 41:39up or a pass somewhere he had to step in
- 41:42and take on a line as, yes, yes so, yeah yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 3: It Was and that is going to be the determining
- 41:51Factor jeff and Getting will on the field more this.
- 41:54Year it's not about his past. Catching it's not he
- 41:56has unique, qualities but, yeah in order to at playing
- 42:00time the carve out a, role you have to prove
- 42:02that you can pass for tech and that's been something
- 42:04that he's been working, very very diligent on to make
- 42:07sure that he's able to have that area short.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Up, yeah and everybody should check out your story on
- 42:11him On inside The birds dot.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Com you, know he's talked about.
- 42:13Speaker 1: It working on that and really how that running that
- 42:17running back room becomes a lot more like diverse and multi,
- 42:22OPTIONAL i guess when you consider obviously What saquon, is
- 42:26but Then shipley's ability to sort of take The kenneth
- 42:31game will role and advance it even more in the
- 42:33as far as the round passing, game you, know but
- 42:37again the pass pro and blitz pick pass to be,
- 42:39there we really haven't seen yet where he's in a
- 42:42situation where he has to, sort meaning, like, oh where is?
- 42:45Speaker 2: It where's it all coming? FROM i mean they've they've.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Thrown some blitz as a, camp but there's always that
- 42:50one day or two where the decordinator just decides to
- 42:53dial up every single zero blitz that he's got in his.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Playbook AND i look forward to that, day probably more
- 43:00than the running backs. Do but, uh but, yeah but
- 43:05that's a good test so, far AND i think he's
- 43:07coming along.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Nicely do you did you were you there For Michael
- 43:13clay's press, Conference, YES i was anything jump out to
- 43:16you on.
- 43:16Speaker 3: That there's a question asked About Avery williams and maybe
- 43:22he hasn't been featured as, much AND i think he, said,
- 43:24well he's still learning the, system learning the, language and
- 43:27he cited how integral he is as a personal protector on.
- 43:33Speaker 4: PUNT i believe it. Was BUT i mean he was
- 43:39back there today returning some.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Punts BUT i Think Annia smith is an interesting guy
- 43:44in this, Equation, jeff because he does have some juice
- 43:48and he was a productive returner At TEXAS A and
- 43:50M michael gave me a good answer on what he's
- 43:52seen From anias and AND i think that that based
- 43:56on what we're seeing that could go a long way
- 43:57and him maybe elbowing his way into the roster consideration
- 44:02if he really can showcase some. Qualities has a good
- 44:04return of the. Preseason, YEAH i mean.
- 44:07Speaker 6: If The eagles had to make a fifty three man
- 44:09roster today at wide, receiver you know That Aj, Brown
- 44:12DeVante smith And John. DOTSON i think has had a nice,
- 44:15CAMP i mean spectacular, stuff but he knows the.
- 44:18Speaker 1: OFFENSE i think he's playing. Well so those three are
- 44:20obviously on the. Team AND i think An ias, again
- 44:24if this were today that we were making, decision is
- 44:26shown that he would be among the.
- 44:28Speaker 2: FIVE i mean Probably Elijah.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Cooks except you, know we won't really make the fifty,
- 44:32three but Not Johnny, Wilson Terrace marshall is having a nice,
- 44:36camp but now he's been out for a couple of,
- 44:38practices so there's there's some.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Opportunity it's Funny Taylor.
- 44:43Speaker 1: MOOREN i was watching him play in the slot And i'm,
- 44:45like my, gosh this guy is. TINY i forget What
- 44:49britain Dub, YEAH i got, that thank, YOU i Got
- 44:53britain covey. Vibes so so, yeah it'll be interesting as
- 44:57camp goes on and really see how this wide receiver
- 45:00competition plays.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Out, YEAH i can't.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Wait Danny gray was the dark horse, there but he's
- 45:05no more so there's opportunities to be earned anybody.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Else you, know we went through offensive defense that you
- 45:12wanted to make a knowe on OR i might have missed.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Here we mentioned the TWO udfa running backs THAT i
- 45:19thought had some nice.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Moments, Yeah.
- 45:23Speaker 3: GRANTSON i wanted to mention THAT i Thought grandson saw
- 45:25a flurry of targets over the six, days more so Than.
- 45:28Bryant they hadn't really been able to connect too much
- 45:31at least today With. Grantson there was a lot of
- 45:33passes that were wide or he was diving and they were,
- 45:35short and he dropped the touchdown a couple of days.
- 45:37Ago BUT i do think that he moves well and
- 45:40he has some positional versatility that should be.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Appealing.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah you know when with mccooba, out Obviously Sidney
- 45:48brown has run alongside Read blankenship in. Nickel it's usually
- 45:53in base you're Seeing cooper and Read.
- 45:56Speaker 2: BLANKETSHIP i try to look at how.
- 45:58Speaker 1: They, rotate like not, rotate how they roll their safeties
- 46:02in certain packages because you, Know vic always starts off
- 46:04too high and then it changes after the. Snap and
- 46:07Obviously Sidney brown when they're In nichol is the one
- 46:09who usually tends to get in that robber slash box
- 46:12roll and somebody else's the post, safety which is not
- 46:16all the, time but that's What i've seen, mostly but.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Oh very, quick very.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Quickly N Kobe, DEAN i saw him working before, practice
- 46:25doing some cone drills and pulling a sled, backwards you,
- 46:28know working. Gradually and then ALSO E. J jenkins was
- 46:31doing some white striding after. Practice he had a sleeve
- 46:35over his right leg he has the hamstring. Issue and
- 46:38THEN i saw him walking gingerly off the. Field so
- 46:42that's something that we'll be keeping an eye.
- 46:44Speaker 4: On but it was good to see both players getting.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Some work absolutely all.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Right so those are the observations we'll Obviously i'll be
- 46:50back soon sometime soon next few days to continue to
- 46:54recap what we see At eagles training. Camp that is
- 46:57going to do it for this episode Of inside The
