- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and with me is Luna. Ready for another episode? Luna: Ciao Lucas! I'm excited. Where are we going today? Lucas: Today we're going shopping for shoes in Italy. Imagine you walk into a negozio di scarpe. Luna: Oh, I love shoes. I need a new pair for summer. But I don't know how to ask in Italian. Lucas: That's why we're here. Let's start with the first thing you'd say: Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. Luna: Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. That means 'I'd like to buy a pair of shoes', right? Lucas: Exactly. Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. Notice 'un paio di' means 'a pair of'. Let's say it together: Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. Luna: Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. Lucas: Good. Now the shop assistant might ask you: Che numero porta? That's 'What size do you wear?' Luna: Che numero porta? Right, 'numero' means number. So they're asking for the shoe size. Lucas: Yes. And you can answer: Porto il numero 38. For example, if you wear size 38. Luna: Porto il numero 38. So 'porto' means 'I wear'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice both: Che numero porta? Porto il numero 38. Luna: Che numero porta? Porto il numero 38. Lucas: Nice. Now you see a pair you like. You want to try them on. You say: Posso provare queste? Meaning 'Can I try these on?' Luna: Posso provare queste? 'Provare' is 'to try', right? And 'queste' means 'these'. Lucas: Perfect. Posso provare queste? Repeat after me: Posso provare queste? Luna: Posso provare queste? Lucas: Once you put them on, you might say: Sono comode. 'They are comfortable.' Luna: Sono comode. Or if they're not comfortable? Scomode? Lucas: Exactly. Scomode means uncomfortable. But let's stick with positive. Sono comode. Luna: Sono comode. And then if I want to buy them, I need to ask the price: Quanto costano? Lucas: Great! Quanto costano? 'How much do they cost?' That's a key phrase. Let's review all five phrases we've learned. Luna: Okay! Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. Che numero porta? Porto il numero 38. Posso provare queste? Sono comode. Quanto costano? Lucas: Excellent. You've got it. And you know, if you're enjoying these episodes and they're helping you, consider supporting us. A couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to make a big difference. We love bringing you these lessons. Lucas: Absolutely. Now, let's put it all together in a quick scene. Imagine you're at the shoe store. I'll be the shop assistant, you be the customer. Luna: Okay! Vorrei comprare un paio di scarpe. Lucas: Che numero porta? Luna: Porto il numero 38. Posso provare queste? Lucas: Certo, prego. Luna: Sono comode! Quanto costano? Lucas: Costano 50 euro. Luna: Perfetto! Le prendo. Lucas: See, you just bought shoes in Italian. Practice these phrases before your next trip to Italy. Grazie for joining us on Learn Italian with Fexingo. Luna: Arrivederci! And keep practicing.
