- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. Hello everyone. It is good to be here again. Lucas: Yes. We are picking up right where we left off. Last time we talked about directions. Left, right, straight ahead. Luna: Right. So if I ask ¿Dónde está? where is it, you tell me to go left or right. Lucas: Exactly. But today we want to know exactly where something is sitting. Or standing. Or hiding. Luna: Oh, like on the table? Or under the chair? I love playing hide and seek. Lucas: It is a great way to learn location words. Let us start with one very common word. En. Luna: En. That means in or on, yes? Lucas: Yes. It is very flexible. Let us say the keys are on the table. The phrase is: está en la mesa. Luna: Está en la mesa. Okay. Está en la mesa. Lucas: Perfect. Está en la mesa. It is on the table. Let us try it again slowly. Está en la mesa. Luna: Está en la mesa. I see. So the phone is on the desk. Está en el escritorio. Lucas: That is correct. Now, let us make it more specific. What if it is not just on the table, but on top of something else? Like a book? Luna: Ah, like a cup on top of a book? That feels different from just being on the wood. Lucas: It does. For that, we use Sobre. Sobre means on top of. The phrase is: está sobre el libro. Luna: Está sobre el libro. Okay. Está sobre el libro. Lucas: Good. Está sobre el libro. Listen to the rhythm. Es-ta so-bre el li-bro. Luna: Es-ta so-bre el li-bro. Got it. So the cat is on top of the sofa. Está sobre el sofá. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let us look down. What if the item is hidden? Underneath? Below? Luna: Like my dog when he hears thunder? He hides under the bed. Lucas: A perfect example. For underneath, we use Debajo de. It is a longer phrase. Debajo de means under or below. Luna: Debajo de. That sounds tricky. Let me try. Está debajo de la silla. Lucas: You did it. Está debajo de la silla. Let us break it down. de ja ba de. No, wait. de ba jo de. Luna: de ba jo de. Okay. Está debajo de la silla. The ball is under the chair. Lucas: Correct. Now let us put them all together. If I ask you where something is, what do you say? Luna: I ask: ¿Dónde está? Lucas: Yes. ¿Dónde está? Where is it? And then you answer with one of our three phrases. Luna: Let me try a full question. ¿Dónde está mi llave? Lucas: Okay. Where is my key? How would you answer if it is on the table? Luna: Está en la mesa. Lucas: Great. Now, how about if it is on top of the newspaper? Luna: Está sobre el periódico. Lucas: And if it is under the rug? Luna: Está debajo de la alfombra. Lucas: You are getting very good at this. Location is such an important part of daily life. We use these words all the time. Luna: Yes. Especially when I am looking for my phone. I always ask ¿Dónde está? Lucas: I bet. And usually it is somewhere obvious. Like on the counter. Or in your bag. Luna: Or sometimes... outside. But let us stick to indoor locations for now. Lucas: Agreed. Before we continue, I want to take a quick moment to talk about how this show works. Luna: Yeah. I think many of you enjoy learning with us every week. Lucas: It really helps to have support. A couple of dollars a month makes a real difference for us. It keeps the episodes coming. Luna: If you can, please check out buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It is a small way to help. Lucas: We appreciate it. Thank you. Now, back to our phrases. Luna: Right. Let us practice one more round. I will set the scene. Lucas: Sounds fun. Go ahead. Luna: Imagine a bird. It is flying. Then it lands. Where is it? Lucas: Is it on the branch? Luna: Yes. So you say... Lucas: Está sobre la rama. Luna: Perfect. Now imagine a mouse. It runs into a hole. Under the floorboard. Lucas: Está debajo del piso. Luna: Exactly. And finally, a flower pot. Sitting on the windowsill. Lucas: Está en el alféizar. Luna: Wow. You learned a new word too. Alféizar means windowsill. Lucas: I picked it up along the way. It is nice to have extra words. But the main three are en, sobre, and debajo de. Luna: Yes. Those are the ones to focus on. En, sobre, debajo de. Lucas: Let us say them together one last time. En. Sobre. Debajo de. Luna: En. Sobre. Debajo de. Lucas: And remember the question. ¿Dónde está? Luna: ¿Dónde está? That is the key. Ask where it is, and you will find the answer. Lucas: Very true. Practice these phrases. Try to describe your room right now. Where is your lamp? Where is your shoes? Luna: My shoes are probably under the bed. Así que están debajo de la cama. Lucas: Maybe. But in Spanish, you said it perfectly. Están debajo de la cama. Luna: See? I am learning. Thanks for helping me, Lucas. Lucas: Always, Luna. And thank you for listening to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Luna: See you next time. Keep practicing. Lucas: Adiós.
