- 0:05Speaker 1: Good Tuesday morning as we head into this day. Let's
- 0:09Speaker 1: start it the best way possible, and that is by
- 0:12Speaker 1: spending time with God. I just love reading God's word,
- 0:17Speaker 1: the Bible, every day, and at the start of the
- 0:20Speaker 1: day is the best time possible because you kind of
- 0:24Speaker 1: set your mind for the day. It focuses your life
- 0:29Speaker 1: so that all day these thoughts can be helping you.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Approach life with God's perspective, and that's the way to
- 0:38Speaker 1: approach life every single day of your life. We're reading
- 0:43Speaker 1: through the book of Hebrews, and we're in chapter 10
- 0:46Speaker 1: this week. I love the passage that we're going to
- 0:49Speaker 1: read today because of what it says to you about guilt.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Let me read it.
- 0:58Speaker 1: He starts off, therefore brothers.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Since we have confidence to enter the holy places by
- 1:08Speaker 1: the blood of Jesus, and you remember he's been talking
- 1:11Speaker 1: about the fact that Jesus once for all through His
- 1:15Speaker 1: sacrifice of Himself.
- 1:18Speaker 1: He took the place of those sacrificial animals that were
- 1:21Speaker 1: offered in the Old Testament. Those don't need to be
- 1:24Speaker 1: offered any more because He is the thing that all
- 1:27Speaker 1: of those were pointing towards, and that is Jesus died
- 1:31Speaker 1: on the cross for you and me to take our
- 1:35Speaker 1: place so that we could be forgiven by God. In
- 1:38Speaker 1: the Old Testament temple, there was a most holy place
- 1:43Speaker 1: that represented the place of the presence of God.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And there was a big curtain separating that from everybody.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Only the high priest could go there and only once
- 1:55Speaker 1: every year to offer his sacrifice for the sins of
- 1:59Speaker 1: the people.
- 2:01Speaker 1: But no more. When Jesus died on the cross, that curtain,
- 2:05Speaker 1: that separating thing in the temple, was ripped in two
- 2:09Speaker 1: by God, showing us that that way is open for us. Therefore,
- 2:15Speaker 1: the writer says, since we have confidence to enter the
- 2:19Speaker 1: holy places, that is, to come right into the presence
- 2:22Speaker 1: of God.
- 2:24Speaker 1: By the blood of Jesus, by the new and living
- 2:28Speaker 1: way that He opened for us through the curtain, and
- 2:33Speaker 1: that is through His flesh, and since we have a
- 2:37Speaker 1: great priest over the house of God.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Let us draw near with a true heart in full
- 2:46Speaker 1: assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an
- 2:53Speaker 1: evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I love that picture. You've been totally prepared to go
- 3:03Speaker 1: into the presence of God. You don't need to come
- 3:07Speaker 1: fearfully wondering if God's going to judge you, wondering what
- 3:11Speaker 1: He's going to do to you. No. Whatever God held
- 3:15Speaker 1: against you has been paid in full by what Jesus
- 3:19Speaker 1: did at the cross. He not only took your penalty,
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Bible says He took your guilt itself.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So when you think of coming to God, if you've
- 3:28Speaker 1: got this load of guilt that you've been dragging around
- 3:31Speaker 1: and you think, I can't go to God, all these
- 3:34Speaker 1: things just keep coming up into my mind anytime I
- 3:38Speaker 1: think about getting right with God, and I know God
- 3:40Speaker 1: doesn't want to see me.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Well, you need to forget those things because God has
- 3:46Speaker 1: forgotten them. Your guilt itself was taken by Jesus, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: that's why he paid your penalty, because He took your guilt.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And that means when God looks at you now, if
- 3:58Speaker 1: you've put your trust in Jesus and asked God to
- 4:01Speaker 1: forgive you on the basis of what Jesus did at
- 4:03Speaker 1: the cross, He sees you as clean. He sees you
- 4:08Speaker 1: as pure.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He sees you as not guilty. He's so ready for
- 4:13Speaker 1: you to draw near to him.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Not near grovelling but near as his dear son, as
- 4:20Speaker 1: his dear daughter, to just come right to him, put
- 4:24Speaker 1: your arms around him, you see what he says, draw
- 4:28Speaker 1: near with a full assurance of faith, with your heart
- 4:34Speaker 1: sprinkled clean from an evil conscience. If your conscience is
- 4:39Speaker 1: telling you you're too guilty to go to God, that's
- 4:41Speaker 1: an evil conscience. It's not right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And you need to teach your conscience what is true
- 4:48Speaker 1: is what God says about me, and that is that
- 4:51Speaker 1: He loves me. He's forgiven me, He sees me as
- 4:55Speaker 1: clean and pure, and I can come to Him close
- 4:59Speaker 1: to Him with confidence. Do that right now.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm John North
