- 0:00But they're really criticizing science because I represent
- 0:03science. If you're vaccinated, you really
- 0:06don't need to worry about getting it in a way that's
- 0:10serious or transmitting. That is true.
- 0:15That is correct, Chris. It'll need to protect you
- 0:17completely against infection and the chances are very likely that
- 0:21you'll not be able to transmit it to other people.
- 0:24The risk is extremely low of transmitting it to anybody else.
- 0:28Full stocks in aided people are clearly capable of transmitting
- 0:33the infection. When you're in the middle of an
- 0:38outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit
- 0:43better. If people are not wearing masks
- 0:45then maybe we should be mandating it.
- 0:47I often myself wear 2 masks. And I'm quoting you now, at the
- 0:51population level, masks work at the margins, maybe 10%.
- 0:56To hear that they only work at the margins, maybe 10% would
- 0:59make a lot of people ask, OK, then why was I wearing a mask?
- 1:01You're really attacking not only Doctor Anthony Fauci, you're
- 1:04attacking science when you say that this is going to go away
- 1:08tomorrow like magic, when you know that there's no chance it's
- 1:11going to just disappear. We hope this just goes away,
- 1:14burns itself out. So my question is, why weren't
- 1:19you straight with the American people about this to begin with?
- 1:22So the bottom line is it's a guesstimate.
- 1:24I gave a range. It seemed in that quote to
- 1:27suggest that you were basing your your recommendation on
- 1:31polling and what people could accept.
- 1:33Is that not what you meant? No, I mean it's, it's a bit of
- 1:37that. We're seeing all of these school
- 1:39closures around the country. Is that the right move for
- 1:43children and families? Yeah.
- 1:44And I think what's going on right now is, is it generally an
- 1:48appropriate approach? You want to start doing
- 1:50something to socially distance yourself, how dramatic that is.
- 1:55Closing schools and doing other things should be proportionate
- 1:59and. It went too far that
- 2:00particularly for kids who who couldn't go to school except
- 2:04remotely, that it's forever damaged them.
- 2:09Well, I don't think it's forever irreparably damaged anyone.
- 2:12The. US Surgeon General has called it
- 2:14an urgent public health crisis, a devastating decline in the
- 2:18mental health of kids across the country.
- 2:21According to the CDC, the rates of suicide, self harm, anxiety
- 2:25and depression are up among adolescents.
- 2:28And the record will show, Neil, that we didn't recommend
- 2:32shutting everything down. First of all, I didn't recommend
- 2:35locking anything down. I recommended to the president
- 2:38that we shut the country down. And that was very difficult
- 2:43decision because I knew it would have serious economic
- 2:46consequences, which it did. Yeah, because if you look at the
- 2:51people that are politicizing me, there's somebody that all the
- 2:55way over on one level, but there are a lot of other people who
- 3:00look upon me the way they should as a non political person that I
- 3:04am. They're not doing it because
- 3:06they say they don't want to do it.
- 3:08They're Republicans. They don't like to be told what
- 3:10to do and we got to break that. But now is the time to do what
- 3:16you're told. Where did this virus come from
- 3:21do you think today? Did it come from a lab?
- 3:24Was it man made when you have the animal human interface and
- 3:28you have animals that come out of the wild that are sold at
- 3:32these open what they call them wet marketplace of origin was
- 3:36not within the market. No, I don't think you could say
- 3:38that. There's a report today that
- 3:39another intelligence arm of the US government, this is inside
- 3:43our Energy Department, has joined the FBI in concluding
- 3:47that COVID began with a lab leak in China.
- 3:52That the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain of
- 3:58function research in the Wuhan Institute.
- 4:02We now know that a bat coronavirus was enhanced in the
- 4:06lab. The National Institutes of
- 4:08Health acknowledged that it funded research of a virus that
- 4:12was studied at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
- 4:14The experiment unexpectedly we're told, made a bat
- 4:17coronavirus more contagious than the original naturally occurring
- 4:221. Take an animal virus and you
- 4:23increase the transability to humans, right?
- 4:25You're saying that's not gain of?
- 4:27Function. That is correct.
- 4:28And and Senator Paul, you do not know what you are talking about,
- 4:32quite frankly. And I want to say that
- 4:34officially you do not know what you are talking about.
- 4:38They took animal viruses that only occur in animals and they
- 4:42increase their transmissibility to humans.
- 4:45How you can say that is not gain of?
- 4:46Function, it is not. What we're talking about now is
- 4:50the gain of function research in studies that increase
- 4:54predominantly the transmissibility as well as
- 4:57pathogenesis and alteration of host range of the virus.
- 5:01But he's lying here, Senator. It is you.
- 5:06I'd have to laugh at that. I should be prosecuted.
