  Speaker 1: But before we dive into all that, let's get into

  Speaker 1: some of the news and notes. And of course, we

  Speaker 1: have had the full all star teams announced since we
• 2:24
  Speaker 1: last talked last week. No huge surprises, I don't think
• 2:29
  Speaker 1: it is also very interesting because I think this is
• 2:31
  Speaker 1: maybe one of the first times I've noticed where the
• 2:34
  Speaker 1: discourse around snubs has shifted to where people will like
• 2:40
  Speaker 1: rudimentally list out their snubs that they had from the
• 2:44
  Speaker 1: initial list. I mean, Juan Soto is probably the biggest one.
• 2:47
  Speaker 1: But then there's been a big acknowledgment that everyone recognizes that, hey, actually,
• 2:53
  Speaker 1: you know, eighty ninety percent snubs are gonna end up
• 2:56
  Speaker 1: being on the All Star team as pitchers bow out
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: other players just kind of you know, if they're nursing
• 3:00
  Speaker 1: a little something, we'll baby bow out. So we should
• 3:03
  Speaker 1: be able to pick that up. But what do you
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: think is have we finally reached like the point in
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: snub discourse on the All Stars where we've gotten like
• 3:14
  Speaker 1: post snub talk where we're just like too smart for
• 3:17
  Speaker 1: that stuff. Now?

  Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I don't think that's like it was that
• 3:20
  Speaker 2: much credit. Like I think the sentiments true, like Joe
• 3:24
  Speaker 2: Ryan was just announced the All Star Team instead of
• 3:27
  Speaker 2: Hunter Brown, so like one snub off the board, he's
• 3:30
  Speaker 2: already in. I still think there is some version of it,
• 3:34
  Speaker 2: like and let's let's just call out Sodo is very
• 3:37
  Speaker 2: much a snub. One fifty seven WRC plus having a
• 3:42
  Speaker 2: fantastic season. He's twenty one homers, ten steals, six six
• 3:47
  Speaker 2: rounds with two RBIs, Like, that's an All Star type season.
• 3:51
  Speaker 2: There's no questions about it. And if if that was,
• 3:55
  Speaker 2: if the name wasn't one Soto, it was something else
• 3:58
  Speaker 2: that would that profile would be in the All Star Game,
• 4:01
  Speaker 2: And it's just like expectations for something so high. But
• 4:03
  Speaker 2: the end of the day, he's probably gonna be in
• 4:05
  Speaker 2: the All Star Game, Like, I don't think there's probably
• 4:07
  Speaker 2: a question. Somebody's gonna get hurt, somebody's gonna be nursing something,
• 4:11
  Speaker 2: and the guys are gonna make it in. So I
• 4:13
  Speaker 2: do think we've maybe reached a little bit of equilibrium
• 4:15
  Speaker 2: that then the roster size plus the like plug in
• 4:19
  Speaker 2: guys are is kind of the right measure of the league.
• 4:24
  Speaker 2: And I also think we've got to the point where
• 4:27
  Speaker 2: maybe we've all just become accepting that like All Star
• 4:29
  Speaker 2: means something, but it's not the thing, because I feel
• 4:34
  Speaker 2: like at one point there was this like you're an
• 4:37
  Speaker 2: All Star, it's beholden to the grail. Of being called
• 4:41
  Speaker 2: an All Star and then when there's an injury sub
• 4:44
  Speaker 2: it was like, well, that guy's a fake All Star.
• 4:46
  Speaker 2: Like I think we're past all that. I think it's
• 4:47
  Speaker 2: just like, you're one of the better players in the league,
• 4:50
  Speaker 2: and congratulations, here's a nice reward for it. You're hurt,
• 4:53
  Speaker 2: you can't make it, so'll come out, have a fun
• 4:55
  Speaker 2: time where your jersey and it's just fun to see
• 4:58
  Speaker 2: the best players in the league. And I think we've
• 4:59
  Speaker 2: got to that point, which is I think fantastic. So

  Speaker 2: I'm excited to see I'm excited to have the break,
• 5:06
  Speaker 2: get to see some of the best players in the
• 5:08
  Speaker 2: world all on the same field.

  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree that I'm in the same
• 5:13
  Speaker 1: sort of boat where especially you just look at baseball's impossible.

  Speaker 1: I don't know how these guys do this nowadays on
• 5:20
  Speaker 1: both sides. That like, not only is like pitching really hard,
• 5:25
  Speaker 1: and like you're looking at just being able to physically
• 5:30
  Speaker 1: do that. You know, I don't know how those arms
• 5:33
  Speaker 1: can handle throwing ninety five plus miles an hour so often,
• 5:37
  Speaker 1: and then hitting is obviously not easy, but pitching isn't either.
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: You look at some of these hitters like you especially
• 5:45
  Speaker 1: compare them to some of the like players of your
• 5:50
  Speaker 1: in terms of everybody can hit the ball out of
• 5:53
  Speaker 1: the park one through nine nowadays. On top of it all,
• 5:56
  Speaker 1: like if you're throwing anything less than probably like ninety four,
• 6:00
  Speaker 1: like you're in a danger zone. These guys are well
• 6:02
  Speaker 1: tuned to be able to just hit a hundred mile
• 6:05
  Speaker 1: of our heats. So it's a it's a hard sport,
• 6:08
  Speaker 1: and you'd also look at the injuries out there too.
• 6:10
  Speaker 1: I totally agree it's a it's a great celebration of
• 6:13
  Speaker 1: the sport overall. And I think the other kind of
• 6:15
  Speaker 1: hot take that's where I've really been seeing floating around
• 6:18
  Speaker 1: out there is where do you come down on the

  Speaker 1: one All Star Pro team takes? I personally love it

  Speaker 1: because I love to see the representation and like, honestly,
• 6:28
  Speaker 1: if Shane Smith isn't an All Star, like in an
• 6:30
  Speaker 1: All Star game, like, that's pretty cool, that's pretty awesome.

  Speaker 1: It's cool to get like the one player from every
• 6:35
  Speaker 1: team in my boat? What about you?

  Speaker 2: Yeah, I generally like it to the extent that it's
• 6:44
  Speaker 2: really hard for me to look at Shane Smith and

  Speaker 2: Hunter Goodman, the other guys in the All Star Game
• 6:49
  Speaker 2: instead of one SODA's like I'm a little like it's
• 6:52
  Speaker 2: like I feel like you have maybe you have to
• 6:54
  Speaker 2: play a certain like level you have to have you know,
• 6:56
  Speaker 2: you can't be you have to win at least like
• 6:58
  Speaker 2: thirty games, uh something for the All Star Game to

  Speaker 2: have it. Also, like let's come up with a little

  Speaker 2: different system here, Like if you're if you're so guy

  Speaker 2: darn bad, uh, then you can't have it. So the

  Speaker 2: Rockies didn't get the White Sox with my system when
• 7:11
  Speaker 2: Shane Smith would have made it by a single game.

  Speaker 2: But like raise the bar a little bit is kind
• 7:17
  Speaker 2: of where I'm at. But at the end of the day,

  Speaker 2: like it is cool because every team game, everybody's every
• 7:25
  Speaker 2: fan has a guy to celebrate, it has the guy
• 7:27
  Speaker 2: to cheer four. But what I do stroll with a
• 7:30
  Speaker 2: little bit is like I have a struggle separating like
• 7:32
  Speaker 2: the guys like who would have made who would have
• 7:35
  Speaker 2: been considered an All Star just on merit, and who was
• 7:38
  Speaker 2: the best to the worst, And so that is like
• 7:43
  Speaker 2: you know, I'll look at just a few of the
• 7:45
  Speaker 2: players out there, like I'll just call it my my
• 7:47
  Speaker 2: my car Cardinals team here and Brendan Donovan was on
• 7:51
  Speaker 2: is an All Star Brendan Donovan really an All Star? Like,
• 7:55
  Speaker 2: I don't know if you would have been an All
• 7:56
  Speaker 2: Star like I would like to know. Did he get
• 7:59
  Speaker 2: there on mayor or was he like the token player?

  Speaker 2: Like I don't know, somebody, can you give me an

  Speaker 2: asterisk on these guys, so just so I know, like

  Speaker 2: who's who's the wanna be? So I don't know, So

  Speaker 2: I'm okay with it, but I feel like it does
• 8:13
  Speaker 2: kick a few guys out with other the day. It's
• 8:15
  Speaker 2: not the worst thing in the world.

  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair, and I mean, if
• 8:19
  Speaker 1: anything to it also gives those All Star game managers
• 8:23
  Speaker 1: somebody use light in games and be able to grind
• 8:27
  Speaker 1: out lots of innings that they need to. That's how
• 8:29
  Speaker 1: you end up with Elias Diaz All Star Game MVP.

  Speaker 1: I think we'll be seeing, you know, an Enning or
• 8:35
  Speaker 1: too out of Shane Smith and Hunter Goodman playing the
• 8:37
  Speaker 1: back half of the game because you don't feel bad
• 8:40
  Speaker 1: about using those guys when their teams are so far
• 8:43
  Speaker 1: out of it. It's not like they're independent race that matters.
• 8:46
  Speaker 2: So I think the biggest question for you is who
• 8:48
  Speaker 2: do you look at these two rosters. Who do you
• 8:51
  Speaker 2: have ignored the fact that the American League's won like
• 8:53
  Speaker 2: seventy of the last seventy one All Star Games or
• 8:55
  Speaker 2: whatever the numbers theme. Who do you Which team to
• 8:59
  Speaker 2: you looks better on paper?

  Speaker 1: I mean a little bit of it will depend on
• 9:05
  Speaker 1: the starting pitcher, I suppose, but I mean, then again,
• 9:07
  Speaker 1: you're only going an ending your two. I think the
• 9:10
  Speaker 1: NL has the upper hand again for me, just because
• 9:13
  Speaker 1: the pitching is a tick better. I think you know,
• 9:16
  Speaker 1: you're looking at Skeens and Wheeler and Robbie Ray Edwin
• 9:22
  Speaker 1: Diaz as well as like I like the lineup a
• 9:25
  Speaker 1: little bit better. I'm a little not sure about the
• 9:28
  Speaker 1: couple of Tigers players between Glabor Torres and Haave Bayas
• 9:31
  Speaker 1: getting in there for the AL and the The pitching
• 9:33
  Speaker 1: is just a tick weaker outside of Trek Scooble for me.

  Speaker 1: So I'm leaning an L this year. What about you?

  Speaker 2: Yeah, I wrote there as well, like look at the
• 9:42
  Speaker 2: bottom the bottom of the perceived line with al with
• 9:45
  Speaker 2: Reddy Green, Hobby Bias, Ryan O'Hearn, like it's just like
• 9:49
  Speaker 2: it's it's a it's a little uh dicey there and
• 9:52
  Speaker 2: then you compare it to the n all like the
• 9:53
  Speaker 2: same positions and like the the struggle positions are like
• 9:57
  Speaker 2: Pete Crow Armstrong and so like you just it looks

  Speaker 2: like a much deeper, stronger lineup overall, and I think,
• 10:05
  Speaker 2: to your point, a deeper bullpen, if you may. Again,
• 10:10
  Speaker 2: it kind of comes down to what's actually going to
• 10:13
  Speaker 2: take place from a kind of game setup, because I
• 10:17
  Speaker 2: think the one spot where there is a little bit
• 10:19
  Speaker 2: of edge, the Als, I think they're back end bullpen
• 10:22
  Speaker 2: guys are stronger, and sometimes that plays in the All
• 10:26
  Speaker 2: Star game when you start putting all your starters throughout
• 10:29
  Speaker 2: the game and when you have hater Amuna's kind of
• 10:33
  Speaker 2: filling things out, Like I feel like that's some of
• 10:35
  Speaker 2: the strongest back of the bullpens. So I do think
• 10:38
  Speaker 2: if the ALE can get a lead into some of
• 10:40
  Speaker 2: the late Ian this is gonna be really hard to
• 10:41
  Speaker 2: turn that around. But overall, I feel like the National
• 10:44
  Speaker 2: League's is the stronger team, and I feel like they
• 10:46
  Speaker 2: have been for a few years. They just haven't really,
• 10:49
  Speaker 2: you know, delivered fully to the extent that they should have.

  Speaker 2: So it'll be it'll be fun. I'm looking forward to it.

  Speaker 1: down the news, or if we've kind of also hit

  Speaker 1: a little bit of a lull in terms of the

  Speaker 1: injuries out there, because the guys who were starting to

  Speaker 1: break down already broke down, and so we're looking at
• 11:18
  Speaker 1: a relatively healthy league. Knock on wood, obviously. I just
• 11:22
  Speaker 1: the Jinx is probably going to come back strong after
• 11:24
  Speaker 1: I uttered those sentences. But before we get into some
• 11:27
  Speaker 1: injuries and call ups, let's get into a house cleaning
• 11:30
  Speaker 1: in Washington, as they fired both Mike Rizzo and Dave
• 11:33
  Speaker 1: Martinez there fascinatingly right before the MLB Draft, where the
• 11:39
  Speaker 1: Nationals do you have the number one pick? I mean,
• 11:42
  Speaker 1: it's pretty obvious that, like the GM, Mike Rizzo wasn't
• 11:45
  Speaker 1: you know, the end all be all with that pick.
• 11:47
  Speaker 1: But a little bit of flux to be able to
• 11:49
  Speaker 1: work through in terms of trying to re coordinate the
• 11:52
  Speaker 1: communication in the front office and just kind of like
• 11:54
  Speaker 1: the chain of command. It's it's a strange move for that,
• 11:58
  Speaker 1: and then you layer in and we're just a few
• 12:01
  Speaker 1: weeks away from the trade deadline. But whatever was going
• 12:04
  Speaker 1: on in that Nationals front office, it was not so
• 12:09
  Speaker 1: hot between it and the Learners as they finally let
• 12:13
  Speaker 1: Mike Rizzo go. He obviously brought home the twenty nineteen
• 12:16
  Speaker 1: World Series for the Nats, which they didn't really get
• 12:19
  Speaker 1: to celebrate well, which is kind of a bummer for
• 12:22
  Speaker 1: them because I think we would have been talking a
• 12:24
  Speaker 1: little bit differently about this Nats team if they had
• 12:27
  Speaker 1: kind of like the year of ballpark revenues in twenty
• 12:30
  Speaker 1: twenty and just you never know what that timeline kind
• 12:33
  Speaker 1: of could have held for them. You're also looking at
• 12:35
  Speaker 1: maybe Strasburg could have found some other groove, or they
• 12:39
  Speaker 1: would have been able to find a way to keep
• 12:41
  Speaker 1: Won Soto and Anthony Rendon around or something like that.

  Speaker 1: But with all that, we've talked about this a little
• 12:47
  Speaker 1: bit because this has been a fascinating season for managers
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: getting fired. Dave Martinez is also out the door here.
• 12:54
  Speaker 1: Any impact that you're looking at here for the Nationals
• 12:58
  Speaker 1: as it pertains to this shake up just overall in
• 13:02
  Speaker 1: terms of also maybe anybody that you're looking at for
• 13:06
  Speaker 1: the trade deadline where maybe they will make different moves,
• 13:10
  Speaker 1: or somebody in their system that you were hoping might
• 13:13
  Speaker 1: have gotten a call up that Mike Rizzo might have hated.
• 13:17
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's it's it's too early to tell.
• 13:19
  Speaker 2: I think the most curious part, like you said, is
• 13:21
  Speaker 2: the time being kind of with with the draft and
• 13:24
  Speaker 2: what that's going to mean. At the end of the day.

  Speaker 2: It probably is going to change a whole lot of
• 13:27
  Speaker 2: what's going to take place there. If I'm going to
• 13:30
  Speaker 2: try to stretch it to an on field impact, which
• 13:33
  Speaker 2: I really don't think that there's a substantial one right now,
• 13:35
  Speaker 2: and let's be honest, not the strongest team in the
• 13:39
  Speaker 2: Nationals there. I'm really curious to see what will happen
• 13:43
  Speaker 2: from a managerial perspective. And the Nationals has been a
• 13:47
  Speaker 2: team that really likes to push it on the base
• 13:49
  Speaker 2: pass and kind of likes to run. And they're top
• 13:54
  Speaker 2: ten and steals this year, but you know with five
• 13:59
  Speaker 2: they'd be top four. Like they're they're right in the
• 14:01
  Speaker 2: mix there of a team that runs almost as much
• 14:04
  Speaker 2: as anybody else outside like the Tampa's the Milwaukee's and
• 14:09
  Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see. They're not terribly efficient at
• 14:13
  Speaker 2: doing that when they when they run, and so it'll
• 14:15
  Speaker 2: be interesting to see if a new manager comes in
• 14:19
  Speaker 2: and kind of takes away. I don't call it the
• 14:22
  Speaker 2: fun of the Nationals, but the fun of the Nationals
• 14:24
  Speaker 2: is they're like playing loose and goose and it doesn't
• 14:26
  Speaker 2: really matter because they know they're out of it, and
• 14:28
  Speaker 2: tries to put a little more discipline in a young team,
• 14:31
  Speaker 2: which is probably what they actually need. So I do
• 14:33
  Speaker 2: think that there's a potential for some of that loose
• 14:37
  Speaker 2: run get out there and go after things, things that
• 14:40
  Speaker 2: could maybe get a little bit of a pullback. But
• 14:43
  Speaker 2: I think really it's more you know, looking long term
• 14:46
  Speaker 2: to see are, you know, are they going to do
• 14:50
  Speaker 2: a full rebuild. So it's you know, Kyle Finnegan out
• 14:52
  Speaker 2: is you know, is c J. Abrams gonna gonna get
• 14:57
  Speaker 2: the hook? It feels like they've kind of, you know,
• 15:00
  Speaker 2: had their way around with him. So it'll be interesting
• 15:03
  Speaker 2: to see more from a personnel perspective what takes. But
• 15:07
  Speaker 2: right now it's kind of wait and see for me.

  Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I think that's a really good point on
• 15:13
  Speaker 1: the stolen basis that this has been a team that
• 15:15
  Speaker 1: has run very recklessly over the past couple of years.

  Speaker 1: We'll see whether or not they've rained that in because
• 15:20
  Speaker 1: it's very important for cej Abrams and James Wood too
• 15:24
  Speaker 1: that like a lot of James Wood's value, like those
• 15:27
  Speaker 1: extra stolen bases really rack up quickly. So that's a
• 15:31
  Speaker 1: good point. Okay, let's move on to an injury here. Well,

  Speaker 1: all the injuries, we're going to start with the biggest one.
• 15:39
  Speaker 1: First New York Yankee starter Clark Schmidt went down with
• 15:44
  Speaker 1: Initially it was just an elbow sprain, or not even
• 15:47
  Speaker 1: an elbow sprain. They were looking at like a forearm tightness.
• 15:50
  Speaker 1: And then of course the dread of Tommy John was
• 15:53
  Speaker 1: talked here. I don't think he's actually undergone the knife
• 15:56
  Speaker 1: yet because they haven't even moved him to the sixty
• 15:58
  Speaker 1: day il and I haven't read anything about this, but
• 16:00
  Speaker 1: he should go underneath the knife and knocks him out
• 16:03
  Speaker 1: for the rest of twenty twenty five, obviously, and twenty
• 16:05
  Speaker 1: twenty six, Clerk Schmidt had been throwing really well, like
• 16:09
  Speaker 1: he was really rounding into the form that I was
• 16:14
  Speaker 1: expecting him to have when I picked him as like
• 16:16
  Speaker 1: my bye in the preseason. It was a three thirty
• 16:19
  Speaker 1: two e over seventy eight and two thirds innings. I was, man,
• 16:22
  Speaker 1: it was really nice wherever you had him considering the
• 16:25
  Speaker 1: draft cost. But there's actually a silver lining here because
• 16:29
  Speaker 1: my boy Camp Schlitler is taking over for that rotation
• 16:32
  Speaker 1: spot in New York pitching as we speak. He I
• 16:36
  Speaker 1: was watching a little bit of the outing before we talked.

  Speaker 1: Here were speaking on Wednesday, July ninth, and he I
• 16:45
  Speaker 1: think he's actually wrecked up. Let me pull up his line,
• 16:47
  Speaker 1: but he was looking really good. I really liked what
• 16:50
  Speaker 1: I was seeing. It's a very easy, like ninety seven
• 16:53
  Speaker 1: out of the hand, where it kind of jumps on you,
• 16:55
  Speaker 1: where it almost looks like the ball accelerates halfway down

  Speaker 1: when it's coming to the plate. Because he is six'
