- 0:00So autism and Halloween can be super difficult.
- 0:02Here is my essential guide Let's get into it don't go anywhere
- 0:06guys what's going on welcome back to the aspy world.
- 0:08My name is Danny of autism and ADHD, and I absolutely love
- 0:12helping autistic people reach their full potential.

- 0:17that subscribe button by clicking the notification bell
- 0:19down below and follow me on all my social media channels for
- 0:22daily videos. I upload 4A day because I'm just
- 0:24a crazy dude. I love Halloween.
- 0:25It's probably one of my favorite holidays and my son loves
- 0:28Halloween. I know so many people who just
- 0:30love Halloween because it's like one of those cool holidays,
- 0:32right? It's just nuts.
- 0:32You get to do crazy stuff and eat candy.
- 0:34It's not always easy for assisting people to enjoy
- 0:36Halloween. I know here it's kind of crazy.
- 0:38We probably get maybe 100 to 200, you know, trick or treaters
- 0:42on the night coming here. And you know, we decorate the
- 0:45house and there's a whole lot of stuff that goes into it.
- 0:47So that being said, it's not always easy to navigate around
- 0:51what to do on Halloween, how to prep and how to prepare.
- 0:53This is why I'm giving you this video.
- 0:55So the first thing I would say is that you need to choose the
- 0:57right costume. Now, this means that you're
- 1:00going to choose a costume that's not triggering for yourself or
- 1:03for the child that you have on the autism spectrum.
- 1:05It's sensory pleasing. So the material is sensory
- 1:08pleasing. You're not going to get
- 1:09irritated by being too hot in it.
- 1:11It's not too fuzzy, It doesn't make noises, it doesn't light
- 1:13up. All these things have to be
- 1:15coming into consideration when you're picking a costume.
- 1:17If you're going to make it yourself, maybe have your child
- 1:20or yourself, you make the costume so that you know exactly
- 1:23what's going into it, how you can get out of it, see, you
- 1:25know, you know the way around it.
- 1:27Also, I would definitely say wear it a couple of times around
- 1:30the house before actually putting it on for Halloween.
- 1:32You need to get used to something before using it.
- 1:34And I did this last year. I was a dragon.
- 1:36My whole family were all Dragons and but we all got covered just
- 1:40before Halloween. Even though I was better, my son
- 1:43was better, my partner, she still had covered.
- 1:45So it's just me and my son going out as Dragons on Halloween.
- 1:48It was really good. It was really warm.
- 1:50But I was so glad that I wore the dragon outfit in the house
- 1:54first for a little bit because if I hadn't done that, I would
- 1:56have been a bit kind of like, oh, it was quite a hot uniform.
- 2:01So I knew that I didn't have to wear shorts underneath or a
- 2:03T-shirt. I just put the thing on.
- 2:05But if I hadn't done that, I would definitely put shorts and
- 2:06T-shirt on. And I would be so hot walking
- 2:08like the entire block just collecting candy.
- 2:12And we had so much candies to bring back.
- 2:14So definitely make sure that costume preparation is #1 OK, so
- 2:19the next thing is preparing for trick or treating.
- 2:21Now, this can be done in both ways, that you prepare yourself,
- 2:24that you know that kids are going to come to the door.
- 2:26What we did after a certain time is we left a bowl of like candy
- 2:28and sweets and stuff on a table with like a scary skeleton
- 2:31saying please take one. And this camera is all over the
- 2:34place. So it's not like the kids could
- 2:35have trashed that lawn or anything like that or a car.
- 2:37And so preparing for that was probably super interesting
- 2:41because it allowed me to relax knowing that I wasn't going to
- 2:45get disturbed after a certain time because I prepared.
- 2:47I prepared that, yes, until the daughter trick or treat is up
- 2:49until like 8:00 at night. And then everybody after that
- 2:52will just kind of have to deal with the fact that it's late
- 2:54enough that we'll be chilling out for our evening and watching
- 2:57Halloween scary movies. And then the kids can just take
- 3:00the candy as they come. Because again, we live in a very
- 3:03busy estate and there's a lot of kids here and there's a lot of
- 3:07trick or treaters around. If you have a child and you want
- 3:09to prepare them for Halloween, if they're on the autism
- 3:11spectrum, then I would definitely watch videos and
- 3:13trick or treating how it's done, the language, the lingo, what is
- 3:16meant by trick or treat, Maybe a little bit about the history of
- 3:19it. The more context and detail you
- 3:20can give somebody about this, the more easy they will have and
- 3:23actually falling through and doing those things because
- 3:24they'll feel more like relaxed because they know more about it.
- 3:27They'll be more in control of what that is.
- 3:30And so trick or treating can be really fun, but also you've just
- 3:33got to make sure that you're doing it right.
- 3:35OK, so the next one is sensory considerations.
- 3:37Now this is basically about your house and where you're planning
- 3:40to go. Is the environment that you live
- 3:42in going to be decorated for Halloween?
- 3:44And if so, is that going to be sensory pleasing for century
- 3:47seekers or is it going to be sensory annoying for people who
- 3:50are sensory avoiders? Now, I would highly recommend
- 3:53checking out some examples of like sensory muted houses for
- 3:57Halloween or awesome friendly houses for Halloween on Google
- 4:00and probably find a bunch of different people who have made
- 4:02soft lights, not scaring loud noises, no disco lights, all
- 4:06that kind of stuff. And also the environment that
- 4:09you're going to go visit. Are you planning to go to a
- 4:10party? Well, think about the
- 4:12decorations they're going to have that.
- 4:13Think about the, I don't know, the lighting or the sounds and
- 4:16the music and stuff. Just prepare yourself or your
- 4:18child for those events in that area.
- 4:21Guys, I just want to take this short message break to tell you
- 4:24that I want to thank today's sponsor Brillia for sponsoring
- 4:27today's video. Now Brilliant is a company I've
- 4:29been working with. I'm taking this homeopathic
- 4:32medication for two years now. Now Brilliant is a non
- 4:36prescription based homeopathic medication, which means it's
- 4:38supernatural. It's dead awesome and I think it
- 4:40works really, really well for me now.
- 4:41It definitely helps with enhancing clarity, improving
- 4:44concentration and attention, which is what I need and also
- 4:47reduces anxiety, stress, impulsivity and irritability,
- 4:50which is pretty awesome. People with ADHD now they do one
- 4:52for adults and kids, but I would definitely recommend checking
- 4:56out with your doctor first. Make sure it's safe for you to
- 4:58take if you're on anything else. So just checking out anyway
- 5:00because it's always handy. Now Brillia is available from
- 5:03the link in my description of this video or in the link in my
- 5:06bio. Depends where you're watching
- 5:07this video. You can actually use a code ASP
- 5:1015 to get 15% off as a little bit of a help from me to you.
- 5:14But yeah, it's awesome. Anyway, let's get back to the
- 5:16video. OK, so the next thing I'd say is
- 5:18communicate with your neighbors and friends.
- 5:20Now, if you have neighbors in the area, you know, if you're
- 5:22going to be trick or treating to just your neighbors or make them
- 5:24aware that maybe your child on the autumn special might need
- 5:27some help or you may need some help.
- 5:29If you're going to a friend's house for a party, if you're
- 5:32going to your family's house for a party, if your neighbors are
- 5:35having a street party or next door is having a party, make
- 5:37them aware of your needs and your worries and your concerns
- 5:40because they may be able to accommodate some of those things
- 5:42as well. Because at the end of the day,
- 5:44nobody's evil, right? Everyone of us have a good time.
- 5:46So as long as you communicate clearly to people what your
- 5:49needs are and what you kind of maybe would need help with, then
- 5:53they're going to be able to accommodate that.
- 5:54I can guarantee that people are just wanting you to communicate
- 5:57a bit more. This is super vital and super
- 5:59awesome. OK, so the last thing I'll talk
- 6:01about here is setting realistic expectations.
- 6:03You can't expect that everybody is going to just be all quiet on
- 6:06Halloween. I mean, it's just, it's
- 6:08Halloween, isn't it? Everyone's going to have a good
- 6:09time. Everyone going to be partying
- 6:10and doing all these things. So you have to set a realistic
- 6:12expectation. Expect that yes, it's going to
- 6:15take a little longer to get around the streets if you're
- 6:16kind of avoiding certain houses, or it's going to take a little
- 6:19bit longer to go see friends if you're having to kind of avoid
- 6:23certain busier times, etc. So always think about your
- 6:27expectations for how the night is going to go or how the day is
- 6:29going to go because a lot of people do parties during the day
- 6:32as well as the night. So just set a realistic goal,
- 6:35set a realistic expectation and that would be super awesome.
- 6:38Now guys, if you have anything to add to help this community
- 6:40pop in a comment down. I read every single one.
- 6:43Give this video a thumbs up and share it if you think this is
- 6:46golden for somebody to get help. All right, I'll see you in the
- 6:48next one. Peace.
