Transcript
- 0:00So do you remember that map of the filming locations that we talked about earlier?
- 0:09Yes.
- 0:10Well, it'll have more on that map than just locations from fictional movies.
- 0:18It also has some real locations of hauntings and dark history.
- 0:23Ooh!
- 0:24Ooh!
- 0:25Okay!
- 0:26You can use this map to go on a little fun, spooky, self-guided tour.
- 0:33Hi, Caitlyn!
- 0:35Hi, Cassie!
- 0:36Hi, creepy people!
- 0:38Hello!
- 0:39If you are new to our creepy corner of the world, this right here is PNW, Haunts and Homicides,
- 0:55where we chat about true crime, paranormal, and all things creepy and/or cool and fun in
- 1:01the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:04And also, we do a tarot rating at the end of every episode for a little bit of deeper
- 1:09insight into our topic, so make sure you stick around if you're into that.
- 1:14And who wouldn't be?
- 1:16So as we record this right now, it is the last day of September.
- 1:21Can you fucking believe it?
- 1:23Uh, no.
- 1:24It's like, where did the time go?
- 1:27I know, I refuse.
- 1:28I feel like you say that more and more as you get older, but maybe this is me.
- 1:31I'm not interested in that trope, but I'm so excited!
- 1:36It's time to wake up Green Day!
- 1:38We're going to the TGOG show tomorrow!
- 1:42I'm so excited!
- 1:43Do you know what TGOG stands for?
- 1:46Yeah, two girls, one ghost.
- 1:48If you guys didn't know, that's what it stands for.
- 1:51Yeah!
- 1:52We're very excited.
- 1:53It's one of my favorite podcasts.
- 1:55Also, tomorrow, as we're recording, tomorrow's October 1st, the Halloween display map is
- 2:02now live.
- 2:03So, as of right now, it's been live for a couple of weeks.
- 2:06So make sure to check that out.
- 2:07We had a little bonus on it.
- 2:09It's a map of really cool, like, Halloween light displays.
- 2:14Kind of like you would think of Christmas lights, but it's Halloween style.
- 2:18Yeah.
- 2:19Are all of them light displays or are some of them just, like, different Halloween decorations?
- 2:25I'm sure there's some light involved.
- 2:27I'm not really sure, because nighttime?
- 2:30Yeah, it's night.
- 2:31Yeah.
- 2:32But I'm--
- 2:33It's "gark" outside, you guys.
- 2:34Yeah, oh my gosh!
- 2:35You said that twice today.
- 2:37Hey, listen, it's a shoe fits.
- 2:40If it's "gark" outside.
- 2:42Well, should we get into it?
- 2:45Yeah.
- 2:46So we talked about this briefly in last year's Scary Fun in the PNW.
- 2:52Ooh!
- 2:53Do you remember that episode?
- 2:54I do, yeah.
- 2:55We just kind of jumped around the Pacific Northwest, talked about a few different things.
- 3:00So to get into the spirit of Halloween, we're going to go a bit more in depth on one
- 3:06of those today.
- 3:08Jump in the tour bus with me, Caitlyn.
- 3:10Let's go!
- 3:11I would like to know where we're going first.
- 3:14Room, room, room.
- 3:15Oh, it's always fun with me.
- 3:16I'm talking about-- today we'll be visiting a little town of about 14,000, just under 30
- 3:25miles north of Portland.
- 3:27This is a port city on the Columbia, right across from Washington.
- 3:32You're like, "I have ideas."
- 3:35Yeah, I've got guesses.
- 3:38When the town was purchased in 1847, it was named Plymouth.
- 3:43Okay.
- 3:44It was actually obvious reasons.
- 3:46Yeah, I think so.
- 3:47It's not like some-- it's not a history podcast, folks.
- 3:51I won't get into that, I promise.
- 3:53This isn't boring facts.
- 3:54No, I mean, hey!
- 3:56Yeah, don't you dare.
- 3:57That's my segment.
- 4:00But then the name changed only a year later to Cassino.
- 4:04Oh!
- 4:05After a Chinookan Chief.
- 4:07Chief Cassino.
- 4:09I looked up-- there's a ton of different spellings of this.
- 4:14I was trying to figure out how to pronounce it, and then one of them just rode out Casino,
- 4:18and I was like, "Oh, I guess it's pronounced Casino."
- 4:21So--
- 4:22Interesting.
- 4:23Is that where Casino's come from?
- 4:24Literally my next sentence.
- 4:26But we're not getting into that.
- 4:27My next thought.
- 4:28It's not that's not what the episode's about.
- 4:30We'll get into it in maybe another time.
- 4:32Okay.
- 4:33Maybe one of you creepy people can do a research paper on it.
- 4:36Yeah, you can.
- 4:37I like that.
- 4:38Then two years later, the name of the town changed again.
- 4:42Okay.
- 4:43Okay.
- 4:44I know.
- 4:45This one finally stuck, though.
- 4:47All right.
- 4:48St. Helens.
- 4:49"Due to the gorgeous view of the active Mount St. Helens volcano in the distance."
- 4:56No.
- 4:57It's fucking active.
- 4:59I looked to the sub because I originally wrote "dormant," and I was like, "Wait, is it?"
- 5:04And I looked it up and, "Oh, it's active."
- 5:07That's wishful thinking.
- 5:08She's active.
- 5:09I've ever heard of it.
- 5:10I was like, "I have..."
- 5:11We talked about this earlier.
- 5:12I have an irrational fear of volcanoes.
- 5:16And I just don't want to think about it.
- 5:17I mean, but who doesn't?
- 5:19If you're not worried about hot lava...
- 5:22Yeah.
- 5:23I said it's...
- 5:24For the...
- 5:25For the...
- 5:26Like, it's on my mind every day.
- 5:27Like, a volcano passes my mind every day.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:32Lava.
- 5:33Do you know what I think about a lot?
- 5:35And it's not unrelated.
- 5:37Is the Cascadia subduction zone?
- 5:40Abduction zone?
- 5:42Is that like the earthquake thing?
- 5:44Yeah.
- 5:45I like it.
- 5:46Okay.
- 5:47All I am.
- 5:48It's everything's fine, you guys.
- 5:49We're here now.
- 5:50Yeah.
- 5:51Let's make the most of it.
- 5:52For how long?
- 5:53Let's talk about St. Helens.
- 5:54Yeah.
- 5:55The fun stuff.
- 5:56I know.
- 5:57Oh, sorry.
- 5:58Yep.
- 5:59Quit killing my vibe.
- 6:00I'm so sorry.
- 6:01So it's right across the Columbia River in Washington.
- 6:05And I'm not sure the distance as the crow flies.
- 6:09But it's about an 86 mile drive northeast according to the Google Map Gods.
- 6:15Okay.
- 6:16So the reason I say that is because you can't just like drive over the river.
- 6:19I guess there's no bridge right there.
- 6:21You can't do that.
- 6:22So to get to St. Helens, you got to like go up north and over a bridge and then like
- 6:26back down and over the river and through the woods and...
- 6:29Yeah.
- 6:30...to Batsquatch's house we go.
- 6:31Yeah.
- 6:32It's a whole thing.
- 6:33So do you remember that that's how that's like where the legend of Batsquatch was born?
- 6:38In St. Helens.
- 6:39Yeah.
- 6:40He was birthed from the eruption in 1980.
- 6:43Oh, okay.
- 6:44Now that you say that, it makes sense.
- 6:45I was like, "What?"
- 6:46You know what?
- 6:47I feel like with Batsquatch being your boyfriend, Caitlyn, you should know where he came from.
- 6:52Oh, yeah.
- 6:53That's right.
- 6:54Yeah.
- 6:55No, you know what?
- 6:56Here's the thing is I still think of Clyde as my...
- 7:00Claud.
- 7:01Claud.
- 7:02See you don't know their names.
- 7:03Whatever his name is.
- 7:04Listen.
- 7:05Okay.
- 7:06It's sort of a T-Swift situation here.
- 7:08You're a paranormal fuck boy.
- 7:09Speaking of, I made a playlist based off of the Jesse Driskill situation with the ghost
- 7:18of a Texas ladies man.
- 7:20I was like trying to think of the title.
- 7:22Yeah.
- 7:23So I made a playlist off of that for Patreon.
- 7:25Love it.
- 7:26But I got a blank space for ya, baby.
- 7:29It was fun.
- 7:30So we talked about how the town of St. Helens puts on the spirit of Halloween every year.
- 7:37Throughout September and October, they decorate the town, most famously with the giant pumpkin
- 7:43from the Disney movie, Halloweentown, obsessed, yes, in the courthouse plaza, which they light
- 7:52on the first Saturday in October, right after the big Halloween parade.
- 7:58And that falls on October 7th this year.
- 8:01I know.
- 8:03And the magical jack-a-lantern stays lit for the rest of the month.
- 8:07Oh my God.
- 8:08I don't want to be on our town on that day.
- 8:10I was like, is this where you tell me that's why you're out of town?
- 8:13No.
- 8:14I'm going to see my great-grandma.
- 8:16Yeah, that's right.
- 8:17I know that.
- 8:18I know these things.
- 8:19And I still was like, she's going to the great pumpkin.
- 8:22But I will be by the hot lake hotel, which I visited a few times.
- 8:26So we might stop again.
- 8:27We like to stop there.
- 8:29Do you remember?
- 8:31I think I've told you the story about the pumpkin that I won when I was in kindergarten.
- 8:36You won a pumpkin?
- 8:38I won an enormous pumpkin.
- 8:43Like a real pumpkin?
- 8:44A real pumpkin.
- 8:45Bigger than you, probably.
- 8:47Oh, yeah, which wouldn't be hard to do back then
- 8:50If you think I'm short now, whoo.
- 8:53Go back to kindergarten.
- 8:54Why are they giving children giant pumpkins?
- 8:56I don't know.
- 8:57It literally weighted down the car.
- 9:00Oh my God.
- 9:01The back end was sagging.
- 9:03I would be pissed if I was your mom.
- 9:06Oh, I think my parents were pretty, pretty pissed.
- 9:10What the fuck?
- 9:11What are we going to do with this?
- 9:13Exactly.
- 9:14Well, they put it in my aunts yard.
- 9:16It was like, if I recall, I think a 467-pound pumpkin.
- 9:22Oh, my God.
- 9:23It was huge.
- 9:25There's a picture of me with it somewhere.
- 9:26I will see if I can track it down for you.
- 9:29Wow.
- 9:30Yes, please.
- 9:31It's fucking adorable.
- 9:33I was a stop sign that year.
- 9:35Oh, like a literal stop sign?
- 9:37Yeah.
- 9:38Oh, my God.
- 9:39Like an actual stop sign.
- 9:40That is so cute.
- 9:42Yeah.
- 9:43Were you red?
- 9:44Did you paint your face red?
- 9:45No.
- 9:46It was literally just like a costume that like you put on, but they didn't do like face
- 9:51paint or anything.
- 9:52But I had, like, that was when I was still young enough that I had pretty red hair.
- 9:57Did you pick it?
- 9:58I have no idea.
- 9:59Like what?
- 10:00Stop sign is like the most random.
- 10:02I am so weird.
- 10:03I have to imagine that was somebody else's like one of my cousins costumes made me.
- 10:07I want to be a stop sign.
- 10:08I want to be a stop sign.
- 10:09It does sound like a kid thing to say.
- 10:12Yeah, maybe.
- 10:13I don't know.
- 10:14I might have to do a little bit of follow up with my mom on that.
- 10:17We'll see what we can find out.
- 10:19So St. Helens is actually where they shot a lot of the movie, Halloween Town, as well
- 10:24as some of the scenes in Twilight, which being a rat, I'm obsessed with that and I had
- 10:29to bring it up.
- 10:30Any excuse to bring up Twilight?
- 10:33Naturally.
- 10:34There is a map I will link with a bunch of the filming locations from both movies.
- 10:39Speaking of Twilight.
- 10:41Oh, they have a whole Twilight weekend.
- 10:45That's fine.
- 10:46It already passed.
- 10:47So don't get too excited, but maybe next year.
- 10:50All right.
- 10:51I can go.
- 10:52I see how it is.
- 10:53I see how it is.
- 10:54Well, I don't know.
- 10:55Do you want to come with me?
- 10:56You don't seem not excited.
- 10:59Do I not?
- 11:00I feel like my voice says nothing if not excitement.
- 11:03Yes.
- 11:05I think they have some of the actors come and do like meet and greets and stuff.
- 11:09So that would be pretty cool.
- 11:10Oh, hey.
- 11:11But it might be kind of packed.
- 11:12I don't know.
- 11:13I don't like people that much like.
- 11:14Yeah.
- 11:15No.
- 11:16You.
- 11:17We'll see.
- 11:18But this year is also the 25th anniversary of Halloweentown.
- 11:23And Sophie and Dylan and Luke and Marney are going to be there.
- 11:26Oh, my Gourd.
- 11:27So visit the website, spiritofhalloweentown.com for all the scheduling and pricing details.
- 11:34So you can go to the town and walk around and see stuff, but they do have ticketed events,
- 11:39which I assume like the Twilight stuff and all of that is ticketed.
- 11:43So go check it out if you want to know.
- 11:46Okay.
- 11:47But some of the spooky fun includes haunted houses.
- 11:51Obviously, they got to have one.
- 11:53I think they just have one.
- 11:54I said plural, but I think there's just one.
- 11:57All right.
- 11:58They have haunted hot rods.
- 12:00Okay.
- 12:01And something called the great big Halloween exhibit.
- 12:05Okay.
- 12:06Which sounds fun.
- 12:07Yes.
- 12:08Yes.
- 12:09And they have a flippin' resident mermaid named Una. shut up.
- 12:14They have a mermaid you guys.
- 12:16What?
- 12:17They say they have magical unicorns.
- 12:20Okay.
- 12:21Which I'm really interested to see if they're just like a pony with a horn strapped to its head.
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:26Okay.
- 12:27I'm going to write a couple of key notes down here.
- 12:29So we have what was that a magical unicorn?
- 12:33Yes.
- 12:34Mermaid Una promises have been made.
- 12:40Quick aside, our mermaid live was so fucking cute and fun.
- 12:43I know.
- 12:44It was so much fun.
- 12:45And then we watched the new little mermaid after we did a whole mermaid day was a whole
- 12:52flippin day.
- 12:53It was so fun.
- 12:54I get it.
- 12:55Flippin.
- 12:56Yes.
- 12:57I said earlier too.
- 12:58And we gave away a gorgeous mermaid postcard that we picked up from the peculiarium.
- 13:03Yes.
- 13:04It was a whale of a good time.
- 13:07Oh, you.
- 13:09Anyway, back to St. helens.
- 13:19So the spirit of Halloween also includes an alien interview and museum of peculiarities and
- 13:20oddities.
- 13:21Oh, just like all of that.
- 13:22Yeah.
- 13:23And I'm going to read a quote describing this quote from the website.
- 13:28The new feature will be a must see for anyone who has questions for resident alien.
- 13:35We have been able to connect with an alien who has agreed to answer questions in this
- 13:40audience based attraction.
- 13:43The alien comes to us from a distant galaxy and will appear in a mind blowing holodeck.
- 13:50Ooh, lucky audience members will be able to ask our alien direct questions and get the
- 13:55answers that they've been looking for.
- 13:58This is a very limited attraction.
- 14:00So get your tickets early. end quote, I want to go.
- 14:04I want to go.
- 14:05I need I have questions.
- 14:07Yes.
- 14:08we were literally just saying we have questions.
- 14:10I need answers.
- 14:12And you know, we don't know for sure if this is a real alien, but I'm willing to take the
- 14:16chance.
- 14:17It's a possibility.
- 14:19Aliens are real.
- 14:20They are.
- 14:21This one probably not.
- 14:24The last fun event I want to mention is on October 27th, 28th and 29th, witches celebration,
- 14:33witches on the water, witches beer fest.
- 14:37I know.
- 14:39I want to go.
- 14:41Can we go?
- 14:42I really want to go.
- 14:44This is a quote from their website.
- 14:47Loads of witches throughout the day will jump into town here and there.
- 14:51Enjoy the fun, including Ursula Maleficent, the wicked witch, Glinda the Good Witch, Ariel
- 14:57was, Ariel's not a witch.
- 14:59And others.
- 15:00I mean, isn't she though?
- 15:03She's mermaid.
- 15:05But she did the witchy stuff.
- 15:07I mean, Ursula did the witchy stuff.
- 15:09I mean, yeah, she was a participant.
- 15:11Does that make her a witch?
- 15:12Oh, we always say everyone can be a witch.
- 15:15So maybe I guess mermaid could be witches too.
- 15:17It's funny because I will argue that Ariel is definitely a witch.
- 15:23She was a, she was participating.
- 15:25Okay.
- 15:26She was complicit in witchery.
- 15:28And that was like my favorite all-time movie.
- 15:31She's a witch.
- 15:32It was my first favorite.
- 15:33She did blow.
- 15:34Yeah.
- 15:35She's a witch.
- 15:37I see what you did there.
- 15:40Okay, finishing the quote, because I didn't finish it yet.
- 15:42Yeah, sorry.
- 15:43Witches on the water weekend is extra special with our paddling witches floating down
- 15:48the river on their boards.
- 15:50It's a famous spectacle.
- 15:51We are honored to receive, end quote.
- 15:55And we talked about this in the scary fun episode.
- 15:58I think it was a different location.
- 16:00Yes.
- 16:01So they go to a new location every year?
- 16:03I think that there's more than one celebration because if I'm mistaken, forgive me, but I
- 16:11think that we talked about it.
- 16:12They do it somewhere here in Portland, where they paddle on the water.
- 16:16We need to take up paddle boarding.
- 16:17Yeah.
- 16:18And be a part of this.
- 16:19I hear it takes an incredible amount of core strength.
- 16:22So working on that core.
- 16:24Yeah.
- 16:25No pain, no champagne.
- 16:27I mean, can we just skip to the champagne?
- 16:30Like is there somebody else who could paddle board?
- 16:33And just like all sit on the board with the champagne?
- 16:36Is that?
- 16:37That's perfect.
- 16:38Is that a ticketed thing?
- 16:40I would pay for that.
- 16:43New business idea.
- 16:44Yeah.
- 16:45Woo.
- 16:46TMTM.
- 16:47So do you remember that map of the filming locations that we talked about earlier?
- 16:53Yes.
- 16:54Well, it'll have more on that map than just locations from fictional movies.
- 17:02It also has some real locations of hauntings and dark history.
- 17:07Ooh.
- 17:08Ooh.
- 17:09Okay.
- 17:10So you can use this map to go on a little fun, spooky, self-guided tour.
- 17:15I'm down.
- 17:16Maybe.
- 17:17Actually, hold on.
- 17:18I want to see the map first.
- 17:19I know.
- 17:20I was like, wait, you're done.
- 17:21Okay, let's go.
- 17:22I don't know.
- 17:23Sometimes I get excited.
- 17:24Passion on this.
- 17:25I think it's my excitement rubs off on you.
- 17:27Yeah, a little bit.
- 17:28I'm excited.
- 17:29Well, that's how I hype you up to do anything spooky.
- 17:32Yeah.
- 17:34One of the stops is the town's waterfront.
- 17:37And this is going to be quoting the map.
- 17:39Even before the city of St. Helens was established in the late 1800s, the waterfront area
- 17:45was a bustling port receiving ships from far away seas.
- 17:49Longshoremen, boat builders, loggers and blacksmiths resided there.
- 17:55Henry Knighton, the city's founder, along with investors and workers moving west, believed
- 18:01that the town would surpass the newly established city of Portland.
- 18:06Well, we'll see.
- 18:10Continuing quote, but after the Pacific mail docks and many buildings burned in two fires,
- 18:17Pacific mail was persuaded to move to Portland.
- 18:22Their dreams didn't work out.
- 18:24Not so much.
- 18:26Continuing quote, sorry, this is a long quote you guys.
- 18:29Work on new docks was suspended and the docks fell to decay.
- 18:33Oh no.
- 18:34I know.
- 18:35Proof that Portland's early business elite may have been responsible, never surfaced, but
- 18:42immediate and lasting suspicion casts a shadow on the riverfront district.
- 18:49So they were implying that Portland sabotage St. Helens.
- 18:53That sounds like very Portland of that era.
- 18:57Yes.
- 18:58It seems like, I buy that.
- 19:01I don't know why, but it's reminding me of the Pittock Mansion episode where he wrote in
- 19:07the big newspaper and sabotaged the other guy, don't remember his name, but for the mayor
- 19:11thing.
- 19:12Yeah.
- 19:13I'm trying to think it also takes me back to when we talked about Mary Leonard.
- 19:20She was the first female lawyer in Portland.
- 19:23Yeah.
- 19:24That's right.
- 19:25There's a couple of episodes that we've talked about some of the old timey history of Portland
- 19:29and she's shady.
- 19:32We should have a new podcast called Sabotage.
- 19:39Sabotage and shady Portland history.
- 19:42Yeah.
- 19:43Let's do it.
- 19:44And we have to do it just like that.
- 19:46Like we're like old timey radio disjockeys.
- 19:51Okay.
- 19:52That's going to take some study for me.
- 19:55That's a really good into character.
- 19:57I'm going to find you a dude, bro.
- 20:00You're going to find me a time machine.
- 20:02Tutor.
- 20:03Yeah.
- 20:04Are you ready for our next stop on the tour?
- 20:07Maybe.
- 20:08The Courthouse.
- 20:09Oh, yeah.
- 20:10Okay.
- 20:11I know you're like, oh, Courthouse lawyers.
- 20:12Yes, I got it.
- 20:13Okay.
- 20:14This might actually be a story for you later.
- 20:24Bring them up again.
- 20:25The Rose and Trellis across from the plaza give no hint of the hanging that happened here
- 20:31where the gallows once stood.
- 20:33No, thank you.
- 20:34Yeah.
- 20:35Oh, boy.
- 20:36So she haunted.
- 20:38She might be because a murder occurred in the town in 1902.
- 20:43And to this day, it remains a question if the man convicted and hung for the murder was
- 20:49actually guilty.
- 20:50Oh, boy.
- 20:51So I'm going to need you to investigate this and do an episode.
- 20:55Okay.
- 20:56I'm on it.
- 20:57I'm going to start my research right now.
- 20:59Okay.
- 21:00I was like, I can give you more.
- 21:01There's more information on the map brochure thing, but I don't want to give too much
- 21:05away because I want to hear about it later.
- 21:07Don't tell the people all my secrets.
- 21:09Yeah, exactly.
- 21:11Another stop on the map is the Columbia Theater.
- 21:15This is on the map because it was in both Halloween, town and twilight.
- 21:19Oh.
- 21:20There's nothing on the map about it being haunted, but searching elsewhere.
- 21:25I found that a ghost of an elderly man resides there and you may spot him sitting up in the
- 21:31balcony of the theater.
- 21:32Oh, that's kind of cute.
- 21:34I know.
- 21:35He's just still enjoying shows hanging out.
- 21:39Being old.
- 21:40Being old.
- 21:43There's one other spot, not on the map that I want to mention because I found it in some
- 21:46people's comments.
- 21:48Ooh.
- 21:49So apparently Saint Helen's high school is haunted.
- 21:54There is a tricksy ghost named Vera who haunts the auditorium.
- 21:58Oh, no.
- 22:00I wouldn't have graduated.
- 22:02Well, I feel, okay, let me say this and then we'll get there.
- 22:06Okay.
- 22:07So Vera messes with the lighting and other shenanigans, but I feel like every school auditorium
- 22:13was haunted.
- 22:15We were told that our auditorium was haunted.
- 22:18Yeah, I just pretended it wasn't.
- 22:20I was like, the school was built like six days ago.
- 22:23It was pretty new.
- 22:24So I was like, how did this room or even get started?
- 22:26But like, I know.
- 22:27So I kind of feel like every auditorium is haunted.
- 22:30Could be haunted though.
- 22:31I think it's maybe slightly because maybe kids don't know how to work tech that well, but
- 22:36you know, they're learning.
- 22:38That's what they're in school for.
- 22:40No offense, techies.
- 22:41They're all going to come after me.
- 22:45No.
- 22:46No, our best friends are techies.
- 22:48Our final resting place on the tour is the Klondike restaurant and bar in the historic
- 22:55old town area of St. Helens.
- 22:58Some people in the comments and stuff were saying it was closed, but they have a website
- 23:02and it appears to be open on when I Google Maps it.
- 23:05So I assume it's open.
- 23:07Maybe that was during COVID.
- 23:08It might have been.
- 23:09It might have been.
- 23:10So I don't know if it like closed for a little bit and then opened, but we should go and
- 23:14see if it's open.
- 23:17You might not want to go.
- 23:19I don't know.
- 23:21We'll think about it.
- 23:23The building is Victorian style and in the past has been a hotel in brothel.
- 23:28Are they all?
- 23:30Yes.
- 23:31Salacious.
- 23:32Remember those long, shorman boat builders, loggers and blacksmiths from the waterfront?
- 23:38I guess so.
- 23:41Those were some of the same people that frequented the Klondike.
- 23:44You don't say?
- 23:45Yeah.
- 23:46You need to somewhere to stay, you know?
- 23:48Yeah, sure.
- 23:49You get their broth alone?
- 23:50Yeah.
- 23:51Okay.
- 23:52I want credit for not saying seamen FYI.
- 23:56Okay.
- 23:57All right.
- 23:58Multiple people, even some locals, reporting apparitions in hearing unexplainable voices
- 24:05and otherwise empty areas of the restaurant.
- 24:09No, thank you.
- 24:10One specific apparition is a man in a classic lumberjack red and black flannel sitting in the
- 24:19booth.
- 24:20Sitting in a booth.
- 24:21Okay, I.
- 24:22That's what it felt like.
- 24:26Yeah.
- 24:27Maybe I'm picking it up vibes.
- 24:28I don't know.
- 24:29I feel like I'm like blushing.
- 24:31I'm kind of attracted to this mans.
- 24:33I was going to say you are blushing can verify.
- 24:37Oh my gosh.
- 24:38I just like I'm so into the lumberjacks.
- 24:40That's so funny because I was just sitting here thinking, yeah, like the lumber core.
- 24:44What's that?
- 24:46Lumber core?
- 24:47Like cottage core?
- 24:48Yeah, like lumberjack core is not really, it's not really my vibe, but it's my thing.
- 24:54I live in the best state.
- 24:56Yeah.
- 24:57Yeah.
- 24:58You really do.
- 24:59So this lumberjack man's, he's sitting in a booth, but when the server comes over to take
- 25:04his order, poof, he's gone.
- 25:07Okay, well, that's not polite.
- 25:11He's a paranormal fuck boy.
- 25:12I.
- 25:13Yeah.
- 25:14I mean, he hasn't ordered anything, so he's not running out on the check, right?
- 25:17Yeah.
- 25:18That's true.
- 25:19But I don't know.
- 25:20That we know of anyway.
- 25:21Yeah.
- 25:22I'm just saying.
- 25:23I don't know.
- 25:24Also, apparently you still need caffeine in the afterlife because there is a coffee pot
- 25:29that turns on by unseen hands.
- 25:32Great.
- 25:33So you're telling me that I will be tired even when I'm dead.
- 25:36Apparently yes.
- 25:37That's what it looks like.
- 25:39That tracks.
- 25:40That's.
- 25:41They warned us about adulting and they said we'll get rest when we're dead.
- 25:50They lie.
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:52That's the part that's two truths in a lie.
- 25:54Also, that's such a great marketing strategy though for coffee.
- 25:57It's so good.
- 25:58You'll want it even after you die.
- 26:01Ooh.
- 26:03Ghost Alley espresso.
- 26:05Ooh.
- 26:06I was thinking, did we just develop our own coffee line?
- 26:11Ghost coffee.
- 26:13It's like you can't even see it.
- 26:15Yeah.
- 26:16But you can order it.
- 26:17Yeah.
- 26:18It's a digital purchase.
- 26:22I also hope like someone's not just setting the timer on the coffee pot, but whatever.
- 26:27I feel like they would have looked into that.
- 26:29I feel like too.
- 26:30Yeah.
- 26:31You got to explore all the possibilities.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:34Sure.
- 26:35So, employees have experienced other electronics malfunctioning.
- 26:40They will randomly turn on and off.
- 26:42And for instance, the volume of the radio will turn up and down for no reason.
- 26:47Hmm.
- 26:48Don't mess with my tunes.
- 26:50Don't touch another man's radio.
- 26:52I know you're like jamming and then it goes down, but maybe it turns up and you're like,
- 26:56yeah.
- 26:57Turn it.
- 26:58Turn it up.
- 26:59Yeah.
- 27:00When people mess with their stuff, they're never like, oh, yeah.
- 27:03It's always like.
- 27:04Hmm.
- 27:05They're doing the Ross, the motioning of the take it down a notch.
- 27:09Yeah.
- 27:10Maybe they're ghosty, ears hurt.
- 27:12So they want to turn the radio down.
- 27:13Oh my God.
- 27:14You and your ghost problems.
- 27:18Drink some more coffee.
- 27:19Yeah.
- 27:20Orbs have been spotted.
- 27:23Okay.
- 27:24Things from light bulbs to picture frames have been knocked down and or broken.
- 27:30So, you know, there's some kind of like poltergeistie.
- 27:33Yeah.
- 27:34I don't, there's a lot of action of like physically touching and moving things and I really care
- 27:40for that.
- 27:41I'll be honest.
- 27:43There's no reports of like touching people, which is good.
- 27:46It's just mostly electronics.
- 27:47Yeah.
- 27:48That would be ideal.
- 27:49Yeah.
- 27:50Maybe don't touch me.
- 27:51Please.
- 27:52And thank you.
- 27:53Yeah.
- 27:54Boundaries, you know?
- 27:55We're going to cleanse the house after this.
- 27:56Yeah.
- 27:57I probably need a good cleansing too.
- 28:00You a dirty girl.
- 28:02Got a dirty mouth.
- 28:03clean it up with orbit.
- 28:04You need some orbit up in this bitch.
- 28:07Just throw gum at the wall.
- 28:12That's like a hilarious misunderstanding.
- 28:17There's a cosmic misunderstanding.
- 28:20I'm going to keep handfuls of orbit in my pocket to throw a ghost.
- 28:24Yeah.
- 28:25Put it in shotguns like the salt and supernatural.
- 28:29Yeah.
- 28:30Yeah.
- 28:31We just did a thing.
- 28:32Yeah, we did.
- 28:34Paranormal investigators have visited the Klondike.
- 28:37It's even appeared on ghost hunters and paranormal state.
- 28:42No, I didn't hunt down the episodes to watch them, unfortunately.
- 28:47But you know, if anyone else does, let me know if it's good or not.
- 28:53But it said that when most investigators go to the second floor, they pick up on some
- 28:58sort of unpleasant altercation that happened there.
- 29:03Great.
- 29:05Some have even caught EVPs.
- 29:07No.
- 29:09We should go to a different floor.
- 29:12You don't want to hear EVPs?
- 29:13They're my favorite.
- 29:15I try to show them to you all the time, but you just say you don't hear them.
- 29:18Hey, listen.
- 29:24That's what you say.
- 29:25Hey, listen.
- 29:26Listen, Linda.
- 29:28They even got video evidence of the coffee pot starting by itself.
- 29:34Really?
- 29:35Yes.
- 29:36I did not see this evidence.
- 29:38Okay.
- 29:39We might have to track that down.
- 29:40I know.
- 29:41I want to find some shit.
- 29:43That's worth a gander.
- 29:44I'm not sure if like the ghost hunters or paranormal state, like the stuff that was on TV
- 29:49caught it or if it was just independent ghost hunters.
- 29:52Yeah, because that doesn't really make for great TV.
- 29:55The coffee pot starting?
- 29:57That would be pretty cool.
- 29:58It would be, but if you think about it, like if you're just switching channels and you're
- 30:02trying to decide what to watch and you flip and it's literally just an image of like
- 30:07a coffee pot starting.
- 30:08You're like, fuck is this?
- 30:11But it's got the dramatic music.
- 30:13It's in the night time vision so it looks spooky.
- 30:17Probably Zak in the background.
- 30:19yelling at demons.
- 30:20We'll fuck out.
- 30:23What would he yell at the coffee pot, you think?
- 30:26God, what's one of his catchphrases?
- 30:29I know he has some.
- 30:32I don't know.
- 30:33It's just like very taunting.
- 30:35Yeah.
- 30:36What?
- 30:37You don't like coffee?
- 30:38What?
- 30:39I'm gonna put a full cup of coffee right here and you just thought right in my face.
- 30:47It is, oh Zak.
- 30:51Oh man.
- 30:52I think if I were there and that was how things played out, I think it was a lot of fun.
- 30:56I think I would just, I'd try to like sneak my arm and grab the coffee and then just,
- 31:01"Fuck, my God, that ghost!"
- 31:04She was a demon.
- 31:06Definitely wasn't me.
- 31:09Caitlyn is a demon.
- 31:10Yeah, a little bit.
- 31:12So as for this altercation, some stories say that a woman tragically miscarried upstairs.
- 31:20I'm not sure when in history this might have happened but I assume it was before it
- 31:25was a restaurant bar.
- 31:26So like back in the hotel brothel days.
- 31:29Yeah, that would make sense.
- 31:31There are, of course, the sounds of ghostly children.
- 31:36Okay.
- 31:37Caitlyn, favorite.
- 31:38I feel like I've made my thoughts and feelings on this topic very clear.
- 31:44I'm sorry, I can't control the ghosts.
- 31:47Well, yeah, I guess they're in lies the problem.
- 31:53You might hear the sounds of children playing, laughing and probably doing that high-pitched
- 31:59play scream that kids like to do that are fucking hate.
- 32:02I don't even like that when they're alive.
- 32:04I know.
- 32:05But the owner encountered a little boy who questioned dad before disappearing.
- 32:13Okay.
- 32:14Not your dad.
- 32:15Not your daddy.
- 32:16Yeah.
- 32:17Not the daddy.
- 32:18You are not the father.
- 32:21There's even been an EVP caught of a little girl crying.
- 32:25Mommy!
- 32:26Okay.
- 32:27Mommy!
- 32:28I don't need a different room because there appears to be a child here and I didn't bring
- 32:35any.
- 32:36Not here.
- 32:37It's at the Klondike.
- 32:38We're not there.
- 32:39No, I mean, not at the Klondike.
- 32:40No, only their spirit.
- 32:41Oh, yeah.
- 32:42I mean, like if I were staying there.
- 32:45Oh, okay.
- 32:46I don't think it's a hotel anymore.
- 32:48I think it's just a restaurant now.
- 32:50Probably for the best.
- 32:51Hopefully you wouldn't be staying the night.
- 32:54I guess if you were investigating.
- 32:56Yeah.
- 32:57Which, oh, I.
- 33:00You know?
- 33:02There were a few comments on the only in your state article from past employees and people
- 33:09who knew staff members all agreeing about the paranormal activity there.
- 33:14There's one quote from those comments that I want to end on.
- 33:20I used to work at the Klondike.
- 33:22Very much saw Lady looking out the window when I was outside having a cigarette.
- 33:28As you walk down the basement stairs, if you listen carefully, you can hear children crying.
- 33:33No.
- 33:34There are also tunnels underneath the building.
- 33:39Okay.
- 33:40Very real.
- 33:42Rumor has it.
- 33:43It used to be a brothel and the abortion clinic was in the basement.
- 33:48Well, that kind of makes sense based on what's going on upstairs.
- 33:53Yeah.
- 33:54Oh, no.
- 33:55They said sad, which I agree.
- 33:59I didn't really think of that kind of thing because you have to assume in brothels that
- 34:03there's going to be accidental pregnancies, right?
- 34:06One might assume.
- 34:07Yeah.
- 34:08Or even it's very logical that there was a pregnancy and, you know, like they said, the
- 34:13woman upstairs maybe miscarried.
- 34:17It's very possible if it was a brothel that those things happened.
- 34:21Definitely.
- 34:22Yeah.
- 34:23So, I mean, sorry to end on kind of a sad note, but...
- 34:27Oh, no.
- 34:28Should we go to more happier things?
- 34:31Like, tarot?
- 34:32Yeah.
- 34:33Tarot?
- 34:34Yeah.
- 34:35See, I wasn't too bad.
- 34:36Tarot.
- 34:37Also, before we recorded this, I got a text from a friend and she sent me this picture.
- 34:44Let me show you really quick so I can get your reaction.
- 34:48Where are they?
- 34:49Halloweentown.
- 34:50They're in St. Helens.
- 34:52They're literally at the spirit of Halloween.
- 34:54What a bunch of dicks.
- 34:56I know.
- 34:57I didn't even get invited.
- 34:59Yeah.
- 35:00But how funny it is that I'm talking about it today.
- 35:02They had no clue.
- 35:03And then they sent me a picture of them there.
- 35:06I was not connecting the dots.
- 35:08Oh, you didn't see the Halloween, the big Halloween talk?
- 35:10I know I'm talking about that, but I was like, yeah, it's Halloweentown.
- 35:14That's what we're talking about.
- 35:16Yeah.
- 35:17That was the whole point.
- 35:18Is that weird though?
- 35:19That was the entire point, Caitlyn.
- 35:22That in a nutshell is the point.
- 35:26It's like you forgot right after I ended like I do with you.
- 35:30No, I was like, I know we're there.
- 35:31I know that we're talking about, but I was like, oh, they're there.
- 35:35Yeah.
- 35:36I thought I was expecting something to like, boo.
- 35:39Oh, no, they're so weird.
- 35:40They're so weird.
- 35:41It's just weird.
- 35:42Someone went to Halloween town right the day I'm talking about it, recording half the
- 35:48time about it.
- 35:49That is funny.
- 35:50It's one of those, what do we like to say?
- 35:53Synchronicity.
- 35:54Yeah.
- 35:55Because I forgot the word.
- 35:56That's what I was looking at.
- 35:57You're like, finish my sandwich.
- 36:02Speaking of sandwiches.
- 36:03Oh, God, I'm so excited about that sandwich.
- 36:06We need to go get down on some Portland dips right now.

- 38:08We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:10We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:12We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:14We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:16We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:18We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:20We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:21We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:22We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:23We're going to be in a very long time.
- 38:24Hardake, regret, grieving, sorrow and loss.
- 38:29Aw.
- 38:30Yeah.
- 38:31That was the sadder side of our story today.
- 38:35I think it kind of makes sense.
- 38:37Just looking at this heart with three swords, piercing it is painful.
- 38:42One of the saddest cards in the tarot,
- 38:44it symbolizes deep emotional pain, heartbreak,
- 38:48and a real or perceived tragedy.
- 38:51Oh, a real or perceived tragedy.
- 38:54Interesting.
- 38:55That is interesting because you never know
- 38:57if these stories are real.
- 38:58I mean, the hanging one, obviously, the murder,
- 39:01that was all real.
- 39:02Yeah.
- 39:03Well, and it's funny because even though that's real,
- 39:07that could be a real or perceived tragedy,
- 39:12I guess, depending on how you look at it.
- 39:15Yeah.
- 39:16If he's guilty or not or--
- 39:17Yeah.
- 39:18I mean, obviously, we know some people think that
- 39:21capital punishment is a tragedy, no matter what,
- 39:24but that's an aside, anyway.
- 39:28You may not manage to avoid the suffering indicated
- 39:31by the three of swords.
- 39:32However, the card advises separating true grief
- 39:37from self-pity.
- 39:39Hmm.
- 39:40Let's not pity ourselves.
- 39:42That's Halloween.
- 39:43Yeah.
- 39:44Okay.
- 39:45So we have an extra excerpt here.
- 39:48The quote says, "The soul is a diamond in the rough,
- 39:53which must abide the blows inflicted by suffering
- 39:57in order to shine in all its brilliance."
- 40:00Wow.
- 40:01Okay.
- 40:02You know, none of that self-pity stuff, right?
- 40:06All right.
- 40:07In a reversed interpretation, it says,
- 40:10"The reversed three of swords is acting--
- 40:13oh, is actually less problematic and severe
- 40:17than the upright three.
- 40:19Go figure.
- 40:21It suggests you're making more of an unhappy situation
- 40:24than necessary, or that a disappointment is temporary,
- 40:28not the end of the world.
- 40:30Perhaps the truth hurts, but once you face it,
- 40:33you can improve things.
- 40:35Pull yourself together and get on with your life.
- 40:38Sorry, guys.
- 40:39I had to bring us down, but it's okay.
- 40:42Tough love."
- 40:43It's a part of life.
- 40:45We have to talk about it, along with a vonstah.
- 40:48Yeah.
- 40:49In a reading about money,
- 40:51you may harbor regrets about what might have been,
- 40:54or you've been chastising yourself for a bad decision.
- 40:58The reversed three recommends letting go of blame and guilt,
- 41:02repairing damage, and starting a new.
- 41:07If the reading is about your job,
- 41:09you may be pulling out of a damaging and hurtful situation.
- 41:14The reversed three can mean the worst is over
- 41:17and you've learned from your mistakes.
- 41:20Remain watchful for confusion, deception, or poor judgment.
- 41:25Watch out, say, "Alice."
- 41:27In a reading about love,
- 41:30this card points to painful experiences,
- 41:34but you're working on past problems
- 41:36and trying to make things better.
- 41:38You need to let go of jealousy, regrets, guilt, and fear.
- 41:43Sometimes this card represents accepting a loss and moving on.
- 41:48Except the losses, ghosts of St. Helens,
- 41:53and move on to the afterlife.
- 41:55That's maybe a good one.
- 41:57Hang around a party during Halloween.
- 41:59Hey!
- 42:00Pumpkin, all the witches!
- 42:03Do it!
- 42:04Yeah.
- 42:05I think you should pull one.
- 42:06I was feeling while you were reading that you needed to pull one.
- 42:09Okay.
- 42:10I want a funer card.
- 42:11More fun card.
- 42:12Funer is the winner.
- 42:13(laughs)
- 42:14Mm-hmm.
- 42:15Bring on the fun!
- 42:20Oh, well, that's not the funnest card.
- 42:26I mean, I think it could be worse.
- 42:28Oh, this is interesting, though,
- 42:29so we got the page of cups and reverse,
- 42:31but she's on the waterfront.
- 42:34Oh, there you go.
- 42:36She's literally standing on a dock.
- 42:38Interesting.
- 42:39That works.
- 42:40I'm okay, okay.
- 42:41I'm okay with that.
- 42:42All right.
- 42:43Page of cups are keywords are naivete,
- 42:48openness, sensitivity, immaturity, lack of boundaries.
- 42:54In some decks, just like some of your stories,
- 42:58the page appears as a child.
- 43:01Oh, yeah!
- 43:02Ghosty Kid!
- 43:03Kikikai.
- 43:04No!
- 43:05No!
- 43:06No!
- 43:07Also, immaturity of just, like,
- 43:09howlingness in general and the shenanigan.
- 43:13Disney movies and twilight and...
- 43:15Yeah.
- 43:16Yeah, maybe.
- 43:18Okay, it appears as a child and apprentice,
- 43:21a student, or a young servant.
- 43:25It's interesting, because we definitely talked about,
- 43:27like, a lot of people in, like, work that we would consider
- 43:31the traits.
- 43:33Yeah.
- 43:34Consequently, page cards represent innocence
- 43:39or the initial stages of a situation.
- 43:42Sometimes the page of cups is shown contemplating a fish,
- 43:46a symbol of the water element.
- 43:48When the page of cups shows up, it suggests intuition
- 43:53and innate artistic and creative abilities,
- 43:57but you haven't developed these yet.
- 44:00It also indicates emotional immaturity.
- 44:05If this card represents an actual person,
- 44:08here she is probably young, inexperienced in love.
- 44:12Bella Swan.
- 44:14It's a brothel.
- 44:15Sorry, I have to talk about twilight.
- 44:18Yeah.
- 44:19While we're here.
- 44:20Yeah, that does make sense for the brothel, though.
- 44:23Yeah.
- 44:24And perhaps overly trusting naive or idyllistic in the extreme.
- 44:29Well.
- 44:32Okay, and then our reverse interpretation is
- 44:35the page of cups reversed often indicates pain resulting
- 44:40from an unhappy relationship or family situation.
- 44:44Oh, there was kind of a family situation.
- 44:47Yeah.
- 44:49She was in the family way.
- 44:52As a result, you feel insecure, afraid to trust,
- 44:56unwilling to seek love,
- 44:58but you want to avoid more suffering, suffering.
- 45:01That's kind of a just a recurring theme here.
- 45:06Yeah.
- 45:07This card can show fear of rejection if you express
- 45:10your creative abilities or reveal your intuitive nature.
- 45:14Sometimes it means you're withdrawing into a fantasy world.
- 45:19So if you're dead and you're haunting, does that make
- 45:24you feel like you're in a fantasy world?
- 45:30Maybe kind of, right?
- 45:31Or they're trying to live in the movies.
- 45:34Oh.
- 45:35Okay, that actually makes a lot of sense.
- 45:38Maybe Halloween.
- 45:39Okay, hear me out.
- 45:40Okay.
- 45:41What if St. Helens is actually Halloween town,
- 45:44but it's like on the other side.
- 45:46So you can't see it.
- 45:48But it's there.
- 45:49Okay.
- 45:50All right, I can get with that.
- 45:53The reverse page can also represent a sensitive young person
- 45:57who feels unaccepted or unloved or who can't trust anyone.
- 46:02Mommy?
- 46:03Daddy?
- 46:04Oh my god.
- 46:06Yeah.
- 46:07You don't even trust your own eyes to know that you're seeing your parent.
- 46:11Is that, I don't know.
- 46:15In a reading about money, the reversed page advises against relying on others
- 46:20or a financial advice, or it may indicate a venture you're considering
- 46:25isn't well-founded.
- 46:26Oh, like the business.
- 46:28In the beginning, Portland.
- 46:31We sabotaged them.
- 46:32Oh, yeah, the sabotage.
- 46:34Sabotage.
- 46:35I forgot about that part.
- 46:36I was like, what are you talking about?
- 46:37Yeah.
- 46:38Sometimes this card means you're underpaid or being taken advantage of
- 46:43and need to stand up for yourself.
- 46:44Well, those cards could be for anyone.
- 46:46I mean, St. Helens is making out now though.
- 46:49All right.
- 46:50I don't think there is biggest, I don't think there is biggest Portland.
- 46:53They're not as big as Portland.
- 46:56But she do night.
- 46:58Yeah.
- 46:5914,000?
- 47:00How big is Portland?
- 47:01Should we Google it real quick?
- 47:03A lot more.
- 47:04Okay, you keep reading.
- 47:05Yeah.
- 47:06You look that up.
- 47:07I'm just curious.
- 47:08641,000.
- 47:09Okay.
- 47:10Yeah.
- 47:11It's quite a bit more.
- 47:12If the reading is about your job, this card may indicate disappointments broken promises.
- 47:18Or a situation that didn't turn out the way you'd hoped.
- 47:23Oh, that is right there.
- 47:25Yeah, that is.
- 47:26I wanted a fun card, guys.
- 47:29Oh, shit, dude.
- 47:31It can also show misplaced trust.
- 47:34Maybe you've been duped or betrayed in a work related area.
- 47:40I'll say.
- 47:41Why is the coffee gone?
- 47:43Or you maybe...
- 47:47Or you may not be using your talents wisely.
- 47:52After life for Easter.
- 47:54Yeah.
- 47:55In a reading about love, the page reversed warns you to take a good hard look at a relationship.
- 48:03This card may show you repeating a pattern of heartbreak and betrayal rooted in childhood.
- 48:10Oh.
- 48:11I hope none of the same shit's going on.
- 48:16Well, maybe not current day.
- 48:18I feel like...
- 48:19I don't know, but I see some applications from aspects of the town and the story.
- 48:26Yeah.
- 48:27Okay.
- 48:28Perhaps you've opened your heart to the wrong person or fantasized that a romantic fling is something more serious.
- 48:35Oh, he fell in love with this trooper.
- 48:38That makes me sad, though, because she's the one who got knocked up.
- 48:42Yeah.
- 48:43Well, it's very interesting these two cards kind of go together too, because it was talking about like a heartbreak and stuff.
- 48:49And the other one has a big old heart on it.
- 48:52Yeah, it does.
- 48:53Yeah, that's interesting.
- 48:55She pretty.
- 48:56Okay.
- 48:57Sorry, I didn't have a Halloween deck.
- 48:59I forgot.
- 49:00Yeah.
- 49:01But which, which stuff?
- 49:02Yeah.
- 49:03Modern witch.
- 49:04And we can still do another Halloween tarot reading if we feel like it.
- 49:08Yeah, maybe we will.
- 49:09Maybe we won't.
- 49:10So hard to say.
