- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Prioritize Your Life and PrioritizeYourLife.com. Today is going
- 0:20Speaker 1: to be a little different for me at least, which
- 0:22Speaker 1: is kind of fun because I actually know Adam and
- 0:24Speaker 1: Holly pretty well. How long do we work for? Three
- 0:28Speaker 1: and a half years together, something like that?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Maybe had lunch together, maybe at least two or three
- 0:32Speaker 1: times a week during all of those weeks, so good times.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Those of you that don't know Adam and Holly, they
- 0:39Speaker 1: are amazing, amazing people, wonderful examples of how engaged parents
- 0:45Speaker 1: should be. I would try and list all of the
- 0:48Speaker 1: awesome things you guys have started up and do, but
- 0:50Speaker 1: just that I really, I look up to you guys
- 0:53Speaker 1: as just a really awesome example and wonderful parents. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: I know you have some incredible stories too, and I've
- 1:00Speaker 1: probably only heard a little bit of some of them.
- 1:01Speaker 1: So thanks for coming and sharing with all of us.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah, you bet.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Part of what I try and do with these is
- 1:08Speaker 1: just cue it up a little bit and then stay
- 1:10Speaker 1: out of the way. So I'm just going to turn
- 1:12Speaker 1: the time over to you and excited to hear the story.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Cool well um it's kind of funny because um.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I never thought that we would ever share this story
- 1:26Speaker 4: in particular he.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Doesn't like to share his feelings share with other people
- 1:32Speaker 5: one of.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Those uncomfortable well i've come a long way though 10
- 1:37Speaker 4: years ago like when we first started doing facebook and
- 1:40Speaker 4: stuff Like Holly would share something on Facebook and I'd
- 1:43Speaker 4: be like, stop it.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Like a birthday.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I mean, like an everyday okay thing to share on Facebook.
- 1:49Speaker 5: And he'd be like, why are you telling people about
- 1:51Speaker 5: our life?
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I hate that.
- 1:52Speaker 5: People don't need to know about our life.
- 1:54Speaker 4: People don't need to know about our life.
- 1:58Speaker 3: And now here we are.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Telling you about our life.
- 2:01Speaker 4: But over the years, yeah, I've just felt like obviously this,
- 2:06Speaker 4: you know, not connecting, not.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Sharing, not being vulnerable with others helps no one.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:13Speaker 4: So here we are. I never thought that I would
- 2:18Speaker 4: share this story in particular. It's very sacred.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Story, but with the world and everything that's going on
- 2:25Speaker 4: right now, if it can inspire or help, um, someone
- 2:30Speaker 4: to take comfort in and, uh, realize that there is
- 2:35Speaker 4: a higher power out there, then, then it's worth it. So, um,
- 2:42Speaker 4: so this particular story starts. So my wife and I had, uh,
- 2:47Speaker 4: we've had two kids, two boys. And we're going to
- 2:50Speaker 4: have our third child in a little town in Idaho.
- 2:55Speaker 4: And we actually just last night watched this or read
- 2:59Speaker 4: in our journals so we could remember all the details.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Yes, we did.
- 3:03Speaker 3: We read our journals.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And I'd forgotten that it started at four in the
- 3:09Speaker 4: morning and we woke up and We were going to
- 3:11Speaker 4: go get induced at the local hospital there.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Just me, not him.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I like that he says we, though, because he was
- 3:18Speaker 2: obviously involved in that.
- 3:23Speaker 3: So we went to the hospital. We were there at 4.
- 3:26Speaker 4: And the weird thing was, and I'd forgotten this, too,
- 3:28Speaker 4: but they didn't know that we were coming for some reason.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Like they thought we were scheduled at a different hospital
- 3:36Speaker 4: or something.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Yeah, different hospital at a different time.
- 3:39Speaker 4: So it was really weird. Um, but they're like, okay, yeah,
- 3:42Speaker 4: let's start. Let's do it. And so we started and, uh,
- 3:48Speaker 4: she was given the Pitocin and, uh, we sat down
- 3:53Speaker 4: and I was, I think doing something on my phone and, and, uh,
- 3:57Speaker 4: and she was sitting there and then, um, all of
- 4:02Speaker 4: a sudden she just like jumped up in pain and
- 4:05Speaker 4: was like, go get the nurse.
- 4:07Speaker 3: And I was like, what? Just kind of like, what's
- 4:10Speaker 3: going on?
- 4:11Speaker 2: It was the worst pain I had ever felt in
- 4:13Speaker 2: my life. And I had had two babies before. And
- 4:16Speaker 2: I was like, I can't handle this. Like, I would
- 4:19Speaker 2: rather die than be in this much pain. And it
- 4:21Speaker 2: was all of a sudden. And usually when you have
- 4:24Speaker 2: a baby, it's like little by little. Okay, now it's
- 4:26Speaker 2: getting worse. Now it's getting worse. That was just like
- 4:29Speaker 2: zero to ten in an instant. I couldn't handle it.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And I couldn't even like yell and scream like I
- 4:34Speaker 2: wanted to. That was how much pain I was in.
- 4:37Speaker 2: So just letting you know how I really felt.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Yeah, and so she....
- 4:44Speaker 4: Because I was just going to press the button or whatever,
- 4:46Speaker 4: and she's like, no, go and get the nurse. So
- 4:50Speaker 4: I ran out, and we were all by ourselves, so
- 4:52Speaker 4: I ran out and went and got the nurse, and
- 4:56Speaker 4: we're coming back in, and when we got back in,
- 4:58Speaker 4: she was.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Convulsing, foaming at the mouth. And, um, uh, I was
- 5:06Speaker 4: just like, oh my gosh, what is going on? And then, uh,
- 5:11Speaker 4: after just a little bit, uh, her eyes just rolled
- 5:15Speaker 4: back and she just stopped and she was gone. And
- 5:19Speaker 4: I was just like crying and like the monitors were
- 5:24Speaker 4: going crazy and By that time, some more people were
- 5:28Speaker 4: coming in and I was just realizing, and it was
- 5:34Speaker 4: pretty selfish I guess, but I was just like, I'm
- 5:36Speaker 4: a single dad. This is the worst thing ever. Just
- 5:42Speaker 4: thinking about that I was a single dad. And then
- 5:47Speaker 4: all of a sudden I had a thought come to
- 5:49Speaker 4: my mind, give her a blessing. So I put my
- 5:52Speaker 4: hands on her head and I gave her a blessing
- 5:56Speaker 4: or a prayer and prayed for her. And I don't
- 6:01Speaker 4: even remember what I said at all, honestly.
- 6:04Speaker 5: I remember what he said.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Because that's when I came to. And all I remember
- 6:09Speaker 2: was feeling so much pain, telling him, go get the nurse,
- 6:12Speaker 2: and then I blacked out. I didn't remember anything up
- 6:15Speaker 2: to the point of hearing my name. And he said
- 6:18Speaker 2: my name in that prayer. And that's when I came
- 6:21Speaker 2: to was I heard my name first. And all of
- 6:26Speaker 2: a sudden I just opened my eyes and I couldn't talk.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I couldn't talk for a half an hour. And I
- 6:34Speaker 2: think that was one of the scariest moments of my
- 6:36Speaker 2: life because I could see what was going on. I
- 6:40Speaker 2: didn't understand it, but I could see my husband. I
- 6:43Speaker 2: could see the nurses and the doctors yelling at the nurses.
- 6:47Speaker 2: That was a lot of anger in the room and frustration.
- 6:50Speaker 5: And I knew it was all about me. I was
- 6:51Speaker 5: the cause of all this. And I couldn't talk. And
- 6:55Speaker 5: that was really scary for me because I.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Had this thought, I hope I can talk again. I
- 7:00Speaker 2: hope that eventually I'll be able to say something. And
- 7:04Speaker 2: then what happened was I I remember Adam like taking
- 7:09Speaker 2: my hand and just holding onto his hand and like
- 7:12Speaker 2: making eye contact with him. Like I can somehow let
- 7:14Speaker 2: him know I'm okay.
- 7:16Speaker 5: I'm back.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And when it was about half an hour later and
- 7:21Speaker 2: then I could finally talk again. And I remember finally
- 7:25Speaker 2: like trying to just Concentrate on that oxygen and breathing.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I had to have oxygen too.
- 7:30Speaker 5: By the way. We both had our oxygen with us.
- 7:34Speaker 5: I was like, give him oxygen, please.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Because I was like.
- 7:37Speaker 5: I need him.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I was messed up.
- 7:40Speaker 2: He was panicking a little bit. Well, more than a little.
- 7:45Speaker 5: So I had my oxygen and I was concentrating on breathing.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And then when I finally could say something, I said,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I don't know what happened, but... That was really bad.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I was saying those random stuff. That was bad, but
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm okay now. And that's what I said. I wanted
- 8:04Speaker 2: to reassure him.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I'm okay. I'm here. I'm alert.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Yeah. So we ended up running. They ran a bunch
- 8:13Speaker 4: of tests. We ran and got MRI. And then they
- 8:16Speaker 4: just wanted to get the baby out. And so had
- 8:19Speaker 4: an emergency C-section. That was fun. yep and we had
- 8:25Speaker 4: had our little marie um my little girl and it
- 8:29Speaker 4: uh turned out to be um okay and it was
- 8:34Speaker 4: a it was a miracle and uh just very grateful
- 8:38Speaker 4: and uh.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Happy that there is a.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Higher power out there that's watching out for us and
- 8:47Speaker 4: we felt both you know since then and and during
- 8:50Speaker 4: the whole event and especially after that, you know, he's
- 8:54Speaker 4: got a plan for each of us and when it's
- 8:57Speaker 4: our time, it's our time. And when it's, when it's not,
- 9:00Speaker 4: it's not.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And so, um, so yeah, that was, uh, it's just
- 9:05Speaker 3: a crazy, crazy, crazy experience.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah. And I, I went back in my journal to
- 9:11Speaker 2: try and get, to see if I had written down
- 9:15Speaker 2: what did the medical record say?
- 9:17Speaker 5: Like what really happened?
- 9:19Speaker 2: And, we know a lot that didn't happen cause they
- 9:22Speaker 2: thought that I had had a stroke, but then I didn't.
- 9:24Speaker 2: They thought that I had had a seizure, but I didn't.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And they thought, Oh, blood clot in the lungs, but
- 9:30Speaker 2: I didn't. And I thought it was heart, my heart,
- 9:33Speaker 2: but they weren't monitoring my heart at the time. They're
- 9:35Speaker 2: monitoring the baby's heart and she had big problems.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Her heart rate went.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Super low and that was scary.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Um, But the doctors, honestly, they didn't agree with each other,
- 9:49Speaker 2: and so the medical records are like a disaster.
- 9:51Speaker 5: They don't even make sense. Because one doctor says this,
- 9:54Speaker 5: and one doctor says this.
- 9:55Speaker 4: And it was so crazy too, because when it was happening,
- 9:57Speaker 4: it was like, I was just sitting there in shock
- 10:01Speaker 4: after her eyes rolled back and she was just gone
- 10:04Speaker 4: and the monitors were going crazy. There was doctors just
- 10:08Speaker 4: running everywhere. No one was paying any attention to her.
- 10:11Speaker 5: No one was doing anything.
- 10:12Speaker 4: No one was doing anything. It was just crazy. They
- 10:15Speaker 4: were all looking at monitors and stuff. But then that
- 10:21Speaker 4: thought popped in my head.
- 10:22Speaker 3: And thankfully came back.
- 10:24Speaker 5: You can do something. You can do something.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and we don't want to, of course, blame doctors
- 10:30Speaker 2: because I think a lot of the time people do
- 10:33Speaker 2: that too easily. They say, oh, yeah, it's the doctor's fault.
- 10:36Speaker 2: But the doctors weren't even there. And yet they're responsible.
- 10:41Speaker 2: And they're supposed to write on medical records. They're supposed
- 10:44Speaker 2: to be the one that is liable for everything that happens.
- 10:49Speaker 5: And they weren't even in the room. And, of course,
- 10:51Speaker 5: they don't know what happened. So after all those tests,
- 10:54Speaker 5: I'm just grateful.
- 10:56Speaker 2: That i have a husband who could really just listen
- 11:00Speaker 2: and know that you know god is a part of
- 11:02Speaker 2: our life and he's a part of each one of
- 11:05Speaker 2: our lives every single one of us because all of
- 11:09Speaker 2: us can listen to that you know just listen to
- 11:13Speaker 2: that um feeling inside of you that you are a
- 11:15Speaker 2: child of god god cares about you and he can
- 11:18Speaker 2: help you through whatever you're going through so and i
- 11:21Speaker 2: know that I'm grateful that he was there to call
- 11:25Speaker 2: me back because I was not ready to go anywhere
- 11:28Speaker 2: anytime soon.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Man, we became pretty good friends over those years. I
- 11:35Speaker 1: think you mentioned a little bit of it, but I
- 11:37Speaker 1: remember you saying back then, like, yeah, I really didn't
- 11:40Speaker 1: want to have any more kids after that. I don't
- 11:42Speaker 1: want to lose my wife. How many kids do you.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Guys have now?
- 11:45Speaker 5: So we have five now. We still only have one daughter, though.
- 11:49Speaker 5: She's our one daughter.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And then we had two, but we... I wanted to
- 11:54Speaker 2: have more children. Adam's like, well.
- 11:56Speaker 3: I gave the caveat, only if you promise.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That you're not going to die. Not that I promised.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Okay, well, hey.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It worked out.
- 12:03Speaker 2: And I said, well, we'll just schedule another C-section, and
- 12:07Speaker 2: I won't go into labor. We definitely won't, you know,
- 12:10Speaker 2: do the Pitocin and induced labor thing.
- 12:14Speaker 5: And so it's been okay. I haven't died. I don't
- 12:17Speaker 5: have time to say that. But we've had two more
- 12:21Speaker 5: sons since then, so.
- 12:24Speaker 5: We feel blessed and have our little family, big family.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Big family.
- 12:29Speaker 1: That's interesting too, after all this time that you still
- 12:31Speaker 1: don't necessarily really know what the cause was. And there's
- 12:36Speaker 1: people that are guessing. I think there's a lot of
- 12:39Speaker 1: correlations to what's happening in the world today right now,
- 12:41Speaker 1: even like with the virus, because there's some people that
- 12:43Speaker 1: are trying to blame it or who knows what to
- 12:45Speaker 1: do and you should do this and you should do that.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But I think like always, and what we're taking away
- 12:50Speaker 1: from a lot of these stories is it's pretty easy
- 12:52Speaker 1: to try and push blame somewhere, but whatever's going on,
- 12:56Speaker 1: we should probably always take a deep breath and just pray.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I think that's always good advice when you don't know
- 13:05Speaker 2: what to do. Take a deep breath and pray because
- 13:08Speaker 2: someone else is there that knows a lot more than
- 13:11Speaker 2: us and he wants us to listen to him.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yep, follow that inner guidance, you know.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Thanks so much for coming and sharing your story. And
- 13:22Speaker 1: maybe I can convince you to come another time because
- 13:25Speaker 1: I know that you probably have like 100 more of
- 13:27Speaker 1: these stories because I know how awesome you guys are.
- 13:31Speaker 1: So maybe we'll see you again.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Sounds good.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Thanks, guys.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
